iStandard is proud to be a part of this year’s Miami Music Festival, as we are holding our “America’s Next Top Single” event this Friday Night, November 12th at 7PM at Living Room. 15 up-and-coming artists will perform what they feel is their “single”, backed by one of the nation’s hottest bands – CITY OF GOD. (Check out their newest mixtape, Spaceboi Radio Vol 1. HERE). The winner will receive tracks from Platinum Producers Omen (Drake, Lil Wayne, Fabolous, Mya, etc.), Rsonist of The Heatmakerz (Cam’Rom, Jim Jones, Nelly, etc.), & Royal Flush (Outkast, Big Boi, etc.), as well as many other career changing tools.

So the big “Beast of the Beats IV” event is history. 30 Producers from all over the world ascended upon Webster Hall, hundreds were in attendance, the legendary D-Dot and Rockwilder were honored with the “iStandard iNfluence Award” as well as judged with our good friend Dre McKenzie from G-Unit, but only one producer could come out victorious. Congratulations to TRISTATE, as he came to the table with musicality beyond belief, and a sound that made Rockwilder stand up and say “Your musicianship separated the men from the boys!”

Born in 1948 and now in his third decade as a professional performing artist, E continues to nurture his passion for the Blues. Growing up in New York, he discovered his purpose at the age of 13, when he was drawn to the sounds of Acoustic Blues, and got his first harmonica when he discovered Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee. In the 70s, 80s and 90s, he developed his singer/songwriting talents, as well as an aptitude for playing other instruments beautifully… His specialty was the blues harp. He established himself as a ground-breaking harmonica player, and became a percussionist with Hodges, James and Smith (back in the early 70s) as well as a studio musician with Bolic Sound Studios, playing behind Ike and Tina Turner. He also played percussions on Sussex Records with Bobbi Hall behind Bill Withers in 1971 through 1974. In the 80s, he moved to Chicago where he played with the likes of John Prine, Jo Mapes, and Joseph Jarman.

While family and other commitments would interrupt his career, E always returned to his roots in blues, and 2000 saw the release of his second album, “The First Time Out”, an extraordinary recording that was an eclectic mix of ten original compositions comprising Blues, R&B, Jazz, Delta and Gospel. In 2002, E hit his stride, adding his exceptional harmonica skills and powerful vocals to the mix. He delivers charismatic, compelling, and passionate performances that are charged with emotion and filled with his authentic signature style. Always experimenting with new sounds, he sometimes makes bold, daring renditions of obscure tunes of legendary icons such as Robert Johnson, Howlin’ Wolf, Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker, adding his unique spin to them.

2006 was a creative year for E, what with three albums released and building his own record label, Black Owl Music. While his albums showcase the sensual range of his vocals and the use of his voice as an incredibly multi-faceted instrument, it is his haunting harp signature style that captivates and inspires his audience. “Mississippi Reminiscence” is the most personal of his work, and “Five Long Years: A Tribute To Carey Bell” has been hailed as sheer unadulterated blues.

Mushy Widmaier, is a prodigy of Haitian music, born and raised in Port-au Prince. He was completely mesmerized by the black and white suite, the array of tones, timbre’s and notes of the piano during his childhood. It was to become his favorite instrument, and he learned it well.

He is now considered one of the top 10 piano players in the Caribbean, one of its most exceptional masters. The 80’s brought recognition to Mushy and his brother Joel for having infected the Haitian music scene with a highly innovative style known today as the “The School of the New Generation”. Their group, Zekle, became synonymous with a modern jazz sound which includes soft oxygen-like singing, strong melodies, energetic arrangement, meaningful lyrics, keyboard pads and strings elements placed beneath the rhythm section. Mushy also has 150 plus commercial jingles and advertising spots to his credit.

His music has been used to promote the wares of fortune 500 companies such as Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Prestige Beer and the major banks in Haiti. Mushy Widmaier is a true scholar, and the very definition of a Renaissance musician. His evolution has led him to the following conclusion;

“Haitian Music is song, classical, roots, dance, contemporary, traditional, jazz and all musical genres originated from the Haitian soul. This variety constitutes the opera of our history.” Mushy

This Saturday, November 13 the New World Symphony will feature a sultry, Latin-inspired classical music concert, “Manuel de Falla, Unlikely Seducer”* at the Lincoln Theatre, preceded by a cocktail hour in the lobby. After the concert, take a stroll down Lincoln Road to the nearby Nespresso Boutique, where our signature “Symphony After Hours” bash will take place.

Upon entering the architecturally-chic Nespresso Boutique, you’ll be transported to a Jazz Club from the 1960’s with a soulful live music performance. Guests will lounge and sip on Nespresso Martinis while enjoying savory bites. The vodka bars will be flowing, courtesy of GREY GOOSE vodka, along with wine provided by Barefoot Wine & Bubbly.

Following the live performance, our DJ will spin remixes of the classics for the rest of the evening, so bring your dancing shoes.

Multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, and educator, Joseph (“Jowee”) Omicil a native of Montreal, deeply rooted in the island of Haiti, primarily plays the saxophone. He plays his wind instruments in a poetic and harmonious style. Sonny Rollins and many other jazz greats such as Wayne Shorter, John Coltrane and Miles Davis influenced his sound.

An alumnus of the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston where he majored in Music Education, Jowee Omicil brings to his craft innovation and a new development in the music that he creates. He later went on to further his education as he entered the Thelonius Monk Institute among the 20 “hand-picked” around the US and was featured on BET Jazz.

After Berklee, Jowee began to work at Mission Hill School, Boston as the Chair of the Music Department. He held this position for four years while performing with his group “The Core” during his free time. He also created and developed the curriculum for the woodwind and brass department at Bronx Preparatory Charter School and taught there for three years.

As a philanthropist and educator, he often conducts workshops and master classes intended for youths. Jowee Omicil the activist use his gifts wisely, always rallying the youth with “stop the violence” and “stay in school” messages and has been able to save many young lives by means of music. He devoted many hours helping young people as a tutor and mentor for their musical growth at Roland Hayes School of Music in Boston.

Throughout his career, he has shared stage or collaborated with artists such as Kenny Garrett, Branford Marsalis, Black Dada, Beethova Obas, Richard Bona, Marcus Miller, Pharoah Sanders, Lionel Loueke, to name a few.

In 2006, Jowee released his first CD entitled “Let’s Do This” which takes you wherever you want to go. His new CD “Roots & Grooves”, to be released in November, takes you where Jowee wants to take you. As he describes it…”in Roots & Grooves, you will get afro-funky with it in a jazzy and groovy way. Voted “Best Jazz Musician in Miami (2009)” by the Miami New Times, pianist-composer Silvano Monasterios hails from Caracas, Venezuela. In 1989, he traveled to Miami, Florida to participate at the Miami Jazz Festival. After obtaining an “Outstanding Soloist Award” at the University of Colorado in 1991, Silvano received a music scholarship from the University of Miami, from which he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1995.

Silvano has performed with a number of important artists including Ira Sullivan, Terumasa Hino & the World Jazz All-Stars, Othello Molineaux, Dave Liebman, Melton Mustafa, Marc Johnson, Donald Byrd, Alan Harris, Paquito D’Rivera, Arturo Sandoval, Nathen Page, Randy Brecker, Sammy Figueroa, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Paul Wertico, Mark Egan, Shakira, David Lee Roth, and Nestor Torres.

In 1998, Silvano was voted “New Artist of the Year” at the Hennessy Cognac Jazz Search in New York City. 1998 also marked the release of his first CD, Roads Not Taken, which received outstanding reviews in the U.S. and Latin America.

He earned his Master’s Degree in Jazz Piano and Pedagogy in 2004 from The University of Miami. DownBeat Magazine honored Silvano as the winner of its “Best Jazz Instrumental Soloist Award” in the 28th Annual (2005) Student Music Awards. In 2006, his new recording, Fostered, was released. Fostered features all original compositions, including “Avila”, mentioned above.

In 2007, Dogleg Records, a new independent company, released a recording of a live concert by the Wertico/Egan/Monasterios Trio entitled “Jazz Impressions”. Silvano composed, performed & co-produced two songs, including the title track, of the 2008 GRAMMY-nominated album, “The Magician”, by Sammy Figueroa & His Latin Jazz Explosion. This wonderful CD has been nominated as “Best Latin Jazz Album of the Year”.
The 4th World Ensemble, emerging in 2007 from Monasterios’ desire to experiment with the fusion of Latin Rhythms, World Music and Pure Jazz, features Monasterios on piano, accompanied by percussion, drums, bass and saxophone. The ensemble performs all original music composed and arranged by Silvano Monasterios.

Hailing from the remote location of Perth, West Australia, saxophonist and composer Troy Roberts has recently relocated to the USA. Having completed a Masters and currently teaching part-time at the University of Miami, Troy recently won two consecutive Downbeat Jazz Soloist Awards, two consecutive West Australian Music Industry Awards, was the only Australian finalist in the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition, and continues to maintain a busy performance schedule around Australia, Europe and the USA.

Having shared the stage with greats such as Sammy Figueroa (performing on his Grammy-nominated album, The Magician), Robby Ameen, Lew Soloff, Lauryn Hill, James Morrison, Kevin Mahogany, Slide Hampton, Gary Bartz, Geoff Keezer, Rodney Whitaker, Carl Allen, Dennis McCrell, Jeff Hamilton and John Clayton, Troy has not only just released his third album, The XenDen Suite – an 8-part composition for jazz quartet and string quartet – but also his first DVD – a live concert performance of The XenDen Suite.
Troy leads the exciting nu-jazz project, The NuJive Collective, which features some seriously talented young Miami-based artists, while showcasing Troy’s original compositions – an eclectic concoction of jazz, groove, Latin and neo-soul.

Violinist Gil Morgenstern’s critically acclaimed Reflections Series launches its 2010-2011 season with A Mid-Day Soirée at the Bass Museum of Art. The Miami Bach Society Presents Arcanum, Miami’s Own Early Music Ensemble

On Sunday, November 28th, 2010, at 4:00 p.m. the Miami Bach Society will present the Baroque Ensemble Arcanum. This will be the third of its annual season performances and the premier of Miami’s own early music group. It will be held at Temple Emmanuel, 1701 Washington Avenue on Miami Beach.

The concert will be led by co-directors Tony Boutté (tenor) and Colin St. Martin (baroque flute), and will also feature Robert Heath (harpsichord), June Huang (violin), and Annalisa Pappano (viola da gamba). Boutee is professor of voice at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami. St. Martin teaches at the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore.

Felipe Lamoglia is a Cuban saxophonist, composer, and arranger. After moving to the United States in 1999, he started playing locally with great artists such as the late Celia Cruz, and also began performing regularly with Grammy Award-winner Arturo Sandoval. Felipe contributed as arranger, composer, and performer on Sandoval’s Grammy-winning album “Rumba Palace”. In 2007 his first solo album, “Dimensions”, recorded in Brazil, was released. This project incorporates his Afro-Cuban roots with strong influences of Jazz and Brazilian music.

This dynamic and prolific artist has recorded five cd’s as a bandleader. His critically acclaimed debut cd “Forma Nueva”, featuring John Patitucci, Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez, Bill Stewart and Seamus Blake, received nationwide airplay and garnered strong reviews in the jazz and music press: Billboard, Jazztimes, Jazziz, All Music Guide and Latin Beat among others. “Historia”, a jazz quartet recording for Fresh Sounds New Talent followed in 2005. Then in 2006 “Melancolia”, which employed a string quartet incorporating world rhythms and classical concepts in the jazz idiom that opened up new vistas of compositional colors and textures across the full range of Valera’s sources. In 2007, “Vientos” represented a new working quartet, featuring bassist James Genus, drummer Ernesto Simpson and saxophonist Joel Frahm. His fifth major recording and most recent work, “Currents”, was released on MaxJazz on October of last year featuring Ernesto Simpson and James Genus.

Manuel’s most recent recognition for “Vientos” is the Jazziz Critics’ Choice for “The Best of 2007” and the “2007 Jazz Twirlies,” a celebration award given to those most worthy in modern jazz. He is a recipient of the 2006 Chamber Music America’s New Works Commission, the 2005 ASCAP Young Composers Award and a final nominee of the 2005 Jazz Journalist Association’s awards in the Up & Coming Musician of the Year category. Felipe Lamoglia is a Grammy-winning saxophonist, composer and arranger. Born and educated in Cuba, he is a graduate of the prestigious Superior Institute of Art (ISA). By the age of 18 he was a member of Cuba’s acclaimed dance band, NG La Banda. In 1992 he moved to Brazil where he lived for seven years, absorbing the country’s musical and spiritual wealth and playing with great artists such as Raul de Souza, Arismar do Espirito Santo and others. With Bocato he recorded two albums and participated in the Montreux Jazz Festival. While in Brazil, Felipe founded his own quartet, Tumbao, and taught at the University of Free Music in Sao Paolo.

In 1999 Lamoglia relocated to the U.S. where he immediately began performing with the late Celia Cruz. In 2001 he began playing with Grammy winner Arturo Sandoval, performing all over the world and recording on Trumpet Evolution, as well as two DVD releases: Live at the Blue Note NYC and Live at the Ann Arbor Summer Festival. In 2004 he joined Grammy winner Gonzalo Rubalcaba, recording on his Grammy-nominated album, Paseo (Blue Note).

In 2006 Lamoglia arranged and played on Ignacio Berroa’s debut album Codes, also released on Blue Note and nominated for a Grammy. In 2007 Felipe contributed as arranger, performer, and composer for Arturo Sandoval’s Grammy-winning album, Rumba Palace.

Throughout the years he has continued to develop his solo work and in 2007 released his first solo CD, Dimensions, recorded in Brazil. This album incorporated Felipe’s Afro-Cuban roots with a blend of Brazilian music and straight-ahead jazz. He is currently promoting his quintet, Afro-Cuban Beats.

Felipe has shared the stage with musical giants such as Herbie Hancock, Michael Brecker, Wynton Marsalis, Eldar, Dafnis Prieto, Ignacio Berroa and many others, participating in Major Jazz Festivals in the U.S. and abroad including JVC, Playboy, Newport, Henieken Jazz, Red Sea and in venues such as Blue Note, Iridium, Jazz Standard, Yoshi’s, Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola and many more.

Jose Negroni is a pianist and composer of remarkable creativity and brilliance. He has worked with pop artists Chayanne, Carmita Jimenez, Yolandita Monge, Jose Luis Rodriguez and Braulio among others, as well as with Jazz greats Ed Calle on saxophone, percussionist Sammy Figueroa, trombonist Juan Pablo Torres and renowned violinist Federico Britos.

In 1995 Negroni moved to Miami where he became Creative Manager for Sony Music Publishing Latin, mentoring and signing many young writers, meanwhile developing his own compositions and concepts. His first album, “Naturaleza/Nature” on Universal Music Latino, contains elements of jazz, pop and Latin music and pays tribute to the spirit of his native island in tunes such as ‘Isla’, ‘Coqui, Coqui’ (which refers to the little frog with its characteristic cry which only dwells in Puerto Rico) and ‘Nature’, the title track of the album, inspired by the fresh and rich landscape of Puerto Rico’s natural paradise.

As a member of a new generation of Puerto Rican artists, whose sensibility goes beyond salsa, Negroni is obviously involved in a grand love affair with the acoustic piano and his music has a delightful beauty, anchored in jazz with hints of classical lyricism and New Age.

Grammy nominee Thania Sanz graduated from one of the most prestigious schools for jazz and composition, the Berklee College of Music in Boston. Her love of performing with her guitar and original material has led her to be known like one of the best live acts in Los Angeles and Miami. She has produced and recorded 4 cd’s, where you can hear her sophisticated approach, musically and lyrically, and her sensitivity in performing them. Voted “Best Jazz Musician in Miami (2009)” by the Miami New Times, pianist-composer Silvano Monasterios hails from Caracas, Venezuela. In 1989, he traveled to Miami, Florida to participate at the Miami Jazz Festival. After obtaining an “Outstanding Soloist Award” at the University of Colorado in 1991, Silvano received a music scholarship from the University of Miami, from which he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1995.

Silvano has performed with a number of important artists including Ira Sullivan, Terumasa Hino & the World Jazz All-Stars, Othello Molineaux, Dave Liebman, Melton Mustafa, Marc Johnson, Donald Byrd, Alan Harris, Paquito D’Rivera, Arturo Sandoval, Nathen Page, Randy Brecker, Sammy Figueroa, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Paul Wertico, Mark Egan, Shakira, David Lee Roth, and Nestor Torres.

He earned his Master’s Degree in Jazz Piano and Pedagogy in 2004 from The University of Miami. Fostered features all original compositions, including “Avila”, mentioned above.

In 2007, Dogleg Records, a new independent company, released a recording of a live concert by the Wertico/Egan/Monasterios Trio entitled “Jazz Impressions”. Silvano composed, performed & co- produced two songs, including the title track, of the 2008 GRAMMY-nominated album, “The Magician”, by Sammy Figueroa & His Latin Jazz Explosion. This wonderful CD has been nominated as “Best Latin Jazz Album of the Year”.

The 4th World Ensemble, emerging in 2007 from Monasterios’ desire to experiment with the fusion of Latin Rhythms, World Music and Pure Jazz, features Monasterios on piano, accompanied by percussion, drums, bass and saxophone. Hailing from the remote location of Perth, West Australia, Grammy-nominated saxophonist and composer Troy Roberts has recently relocated to the USA. Having completed a Masters and currently teaching part-time at the University of Miami, Troy recently won two consecutive Downbeat Jazz Soloist Awards, two consecutive West Australian Music Industry Awards, was the only Australian finalist in the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition, and continues to maintain a busy performance schedule around Australia, Europe and the USA.

Having shared the stage with greats such as Sammy Figueroa, Robby Ameen, Lew Soloff, Lauryn Hill, James Morrison, Kevin Mahogany, Slide Hampton, Gary Bartz, Geoff Keezer, Rodney Whitaker, Carl Allen, Dennis McCrell, Jeff Hamilton and John Clayton, Troy has not only just released his third album, The XenDen Suite – an 8-part composition for jazz quartet and string quartet – but also his first DVD – a live concert performance of The XenDen Suite.

Troy leads two bands: The exciting nu-jazz project, The Jive Collective features some seriously talented young Miami-based artists, while showcasing Troy’s original compositions – an eclectic concoction of jazz, groove, Latin and neo-soul. And Troy’s Quartet sets its focus on capturing the raw energy and excitement of the moment in a straight-ahead, hard swinging jazz style, with repertoire comprising original compositions and re-arranged jazz and contemporary classics.

Captivating, soul stirring, earthy and funky. These are just some of the words used to describe the song stylings of LeNard Rutledge. Growing up in Miami, Florida, LeNard was always surrounded by many different musical styles. His parents had an extensive music collection ranging from Classical, Jazz, Hymns and the funk of James Brown.

In the fall of 1984, LeNard went to St. Augustine’s College in Raleigh, NC. LeNard was awarded a Band Scholarship by Dr. Harold Jeffries (Director of Bands). It was in Raleigh when LeNard’s musical journey took flight. In the fall of 1984, he recorded two jingles for WLLE, a local AM radio station. He played drums, co-wrote and sang background vocals. He played timpani and general percussion in the Concert band and was the back–up drummer for the Jazz Ensemble. After a year of hinting and periodic begging, LeNard got his first big break. In the fall of 1986, LeNard sang the ballad “Teach Me Tonight” at the Annual Spring Concert. His confidence grew as he sang more songs, which led to other projects such as studio work and voice-over jobs. For fear of letting his drumming chops falter, LeNard played at area clubs to keep the rust away. A musical friend (Rick Best) introduced him to song writing.

In 1992, Stanley Baird, an area saxophonist, asked LeNard to submit songs for his upcoming CD, Stop, Look & Listen. Stan recorded three of his songs and released them on his label, Saxony Records. In 1995, LeNard submitted two of those songs to the Billboard Songwriting Contest. One of the songs, “So In Love (with you)” placed in the top 1% of 50,000 R&B entries. In the fall of 1995, he returned for a while to Miami. Needing extra cash to return to school, a childhood friend, Alan Morley told him he could earn extra money producing Rap and Hip-Hop Music. He introduced him to Gary Bradshaw (a Miami Rapper). From October 1995 to January 1996, LeNard “ghost wrote” and produced 9 original tracks for Gary. After returning to school in January of 1996, LeNard made the Dean’s List and Graduated in May 1997 with a B.S. Degree in Industrial Hygiene and Safety.

In May 1997, LeNard moved back to Miami. In October 1997, LeNard auditioned as a vocalist for the Melton Mustafa Orchestra. He got the gig and was the featured vocalist until 2003. LeNard has been a featured vocalist at area jazz spots in South Florida. The Museum of Contemporary Art, the Van Dyke Café and O’Hara’s Jazz Pub are the most notable. LeNard has shared the stage with a number of highly respectable jazz artists such as: Nnenna Freelon, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Kenny Drew Jr., and Harry Allen. In May of 2006, LeNard was named BEST JAZZ ARTIST, by the Miami New Times magazine. His first CD, Hello World, was released in November

As part of the New Cool of the jazz scene in the Netherlands Benjamin Herman blows away every cliché while working hard to return jazz to the dance floor, and building bridges between the mainstream, improvisational jazz and the pop scene. He began his career when he received a saxophone as a bar mitzvah present. Since then, Benjamin has become known as the hardest-working, sharpest-dressing and most original musician in the Netherlands. He is the winner of several Edison awards (the Dutch Grammys). Joining him are some of Holland’s finest players. Bassist Ernst Glerum has worked with Steve Lacy, Lee Konitz, Han Bennink and John Zorn. Guitarist Anton Goudsmit has worked with Tony Allen, Han Bennink and John Zorn, and is a founding member of the Ploctones. Anton appeared here at the Byron Carlyle two years ago with Eric Vloeimans. In May 1997, LeNard moved back to Miami. In October 1997, LeNard auditioned as a vocalist for the Melton Mustafa Orchestra. He got the gig and was the featured vocalist until 2003. LeNard has been a featured vocalist at area jazz spots in South Florida. The Museum of Contemporary Art, the Van Dyke Café and O’Hara’s Jazz Pub are the most notable. LeNard has shared the stage with a number of highly respectable jazz artists such as: Nnenna Freelon, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Kenny Drew Jr., and Harry Allen. In May of 2006, LeNard was named BEST JAZZ ARTIST, by the Miami New Times magazine. His first CD, Hello World, was released in November.

Miami native Diane Broomfield grew up in an eight-sibling family wherein music was a constantly defining factor. She picked up the nickname “Dee Dee” (which she now spells “DeDee”) in early childhood; and she borrowed the surname “Wilde” from older brother Ron, who attained international fame as R&B balladeer Eugene Wilde in the mid-’80s. She first appeared on record with the family group Tight Connection in the late ’70s via a single deal with Taurus Records.

Subsequently performing as Life, La Voyage, and Simplicious, the unit enjoyed a minor R&B hit in 1984 under the latter name with “Let Her Feel It.” In 1988, Wilde released her first single, “I Found You”. The U.K. success of this and “Lap of Luxury” led to her debut album, No Way Out, released only in Europe and Japan. Her style here blended elements of powerful belters like Chaka Khan and deeper tones à la Evelyn “Champagne” King, and solidified her position as a commanding soul-ballad singer.

She co-wrote (under the name D. Williams) and co-produced all of the material on the album. Proving her flexibility, she guested on dance group Urban High’s 1989 cover of Loleatta Holloway’s Runaway, and added touches of house and hip- hop to her sophomore set, 1992’s Get-A-Way. Before and during her solo recordings she had also done session work with acts including James Brown, Phyllis Hyman, and INXS. She had also made a name as a top live performer in Miami’s local club scene.

Her track record in both of these areas caught the attention of a France-based club owner, who was putting together a club act including bandmates of Stevie Wonder and Earth, Wind & Fire, among others. Wilde took the gig and got the chance to work with idols, including Wonder and Chaka Khan as a result. Simultaneously, she independently released Get-A-Way to the U.K. market under the title I Love You on Trans-A. In 2001, she recorded her third album, PG-13, for family label Wilde City.

Hal Schaefer’s “Besame Mucho” showcases the talents of bassist Paul Shewchuk. Originally from Canada and now part of the Florida jazz scene, Paul has worked with Dr. Lonnie Smith, Ira Sullivan, Larry Elgar, the Joe Piscopo Big Band and Melton Mustafa to name a few. He is an “in-demand” bass player and a favorite of Hal’s.

La Gente Naranja is an energetic Ecuadorian Rock en Español band based in Miami, Florida. La Gente Naranja started in 2009 with band members Eddie Garcia (vocals and guitar), Jose Nouel (drums) and Diego Saa (vocals and bass guitar). The group made its first breakthrough in 2010 with the release of the music video for their first single “Luz al Sur”, and their debut album of the same name. The band was born out of a sentiment shared by millions of people with a thirst for a new sound to identify their generation with…plus, they wear oranges on their heads!

Ulises Caloz is the “true independent artist.” With his self-produced debut album, “9 years” in the making, Ulises Caloz presents us with 12 original pop/rock tracks filled with powerful lyrics and instantly appealing melodies. ODAS
One of the best Latino Pop/Rock bands to come out of South Florida. By popular demand, ODAS returns! Their new album “Al Final” is packed with amazing songs packed with stories of love, triumph, pain, and anguish. ODAS’ members, Karla Iriarte (vocals), Calors Iriarte (electric guitar), Victor Hugo (acoustic guitar and vocals), Camilo Machado (bass), form a powerful musical force and a “band to watch.” Formed in 2005, ODAS debut album “5 Sentidos” exploded in the South Florida scene and they became one of the most talked about bands. ODAS has a distinctive sound that stays true to their Bolivian roots while taking Rock/Pop to new heights and represents the potential that can be achieved as an independent band.

GABBY VILLANUEVA
Born in Mexico City and raised in Los Angeles, where she studied drama and dance, Gabby Villanueva has successfully and independently jumped-started her career. She released her 10-track album on iTunes and national retailers (without a record label) and turned heads (and ears) onto her sound, a mix of mariachi and pop-rock. She was the first indie artist to reach the top-10 on iTunes Latino. Villanueva uses her songs to talk about important issues like immigration, war, and of course, unrequited love. In 2002, she was a contestant on Telemundo’s reality show Protagonistas De la Música, and worked for Telemundo has an entertainment reporter. Gabby Villanueva is one of the few young multi-talented performers who has captured the hearts of audiences from all over the US and Latin America with her music and charismatic personality. The small screen has been part of her life, working with the most important national Spanish-speaking networks in the United States. Gabby worked on her debut album, titled “Mundos Diferentes” (Different Worlds), as singer, songwriter and producer. Most recently Gabby sang the National Anthem for the Florida Marlins at the Dolphin stadium with a sold out crowd.

KCC Productions and the Van Dyke Cafe present the Felipe Lamoglia Quartet, Thursday, October 28, at 9 PM. The Van Dyke is located at 846 Lincoln Road, South Beach.

Felipe Lamoglia is a Grammy-winning saxophonist, composer and arranger. Born and educated in Cuba, he is a graduate of the prestigious Superior Institute of Art (ISA). By the age of 18 he was a member of Cuba’s acclaimed dance band, NG La Banda. In 1992 he moved to Brazil where he lived for seven years, absorbing the country’s musical and spiritual wealth and playing with great artists such as Raul de Souza, Arismar do Espirito Santo and others. With Bocato he recorded two albums and participated in the Montreux Jazz Festival. While in Brazil, Felipe founded his own quartet, Tumbao, and taught at the University of Free Music in Sao Paolo.

In 1999 Lamoglia relocated to the U.S. where he immediately began performing with the late Celia Cruz. In 2001 he began playing with Grammy winner Arturo Sandoval, performing all over the world and recording on Trumpet Evolution, as well as two DVD releases: Live at the Blue Note NYC and Live at the Ann Arbor Summer Festival. In 2004 he joined Grammy winner Gonzalo Rubalcaba, recording on his Grammy-nominated album, Paseo (Blue Note).

In 2006 Lamoglia arranged and played on Ignacio Berroa’s debut album Codes, also released on Blue Note and nominated for a Grammy. In 2007 Felipe contributed as arranger, performer, and composer for Arturo Sandoval’s Grammy-winning album, Rumba Palace.

Throughout the years he has continued to develop his solo work and in 2007 released his first solo CD, Dimensions, recorded in Brazil. This album incorporated Felipe’s Afro-Cuban roots with a blend of Brazilian music and straight-ahead jazz. He is currently promoting his quintet, Afro-Cuban Beats.

Felipe has shared the stage with musical giants such as Herbie Hancock, Michael Brecker, Wynton Marsalis, Eldar, Dafnis Prieto, Ignacio Berroa and many others, participating in Major Jazz Festivals in the U.S. and abroad including JVC, Playboy, Newport, Henieken Jazz, Red Sea and in venues such as Blue Note, Iridium, Jazz Standard, Yoshi’s, Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola and many more.

Captivating, soul stirring, earthy and funky. These are just some of the words used to describe the song stylings of LeNard Rutledge. He has been a featured vocalist at area jazz spots in South Florida: The Van Dyke Café, the Museum of Contemporary Art, O’Hara’s Jazz Pub, and now Jazid are the most notable. LeNard has shared the stage with a number of highly respectable jazz artists such as: Nnena Freelon, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Kenny Drew Jr., The Fred Thomas Band, and Harry Allen. In May of 2006, LeNard was named BEST JAZZ ARTIST, by the Miami New Times magazine. His first CD release, Hello World, was released in November 2007.
