As we look towards a historic summer of soccer and the biggest sporting event in the world coming to the US.

Unfortunately, most soccer matches are on during the work day for Americans, leaving soccer fans to catch the highlights after the game (or stream it alone at their desk). This year, Heineken is bringing fans together to connect, not only for the match but in a meaningful way through a new community-driven volunteer program rolling out across the country next month.

Have you heard of VTO? Volunteer Time Off. It’s actually a benefit that 9/10 of the biggest US companies offer to employees to take paid time off to volunteer for charity. So this year, Heineken is going to be urging consumers to use their company appointed VTO hours the day of the match to do good; connect with fellow fans.

Crack open opportunities for Miami-Dade area youth! Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade will celebrate the 15th Annual “Claws for Kids” fundraising luncheon on Tuesday, May 5, at Joe’s Stone Crab, honoring the legacy of longtime Board member Judy Kramer while raising critical funds to support youth programs serving thousands of children across Miami-Dade County.

The signature event is part of the organization’s year-long 80th anniversary celebration, marking eight decades of providing mentorship, educational support, and enrichment opportunities to local youth. Proceeds from the luncheon will directly benefit programs including after-school care, tutoring and homework assistance, STEM education, arts and cultural programming, athletics, and summer initiatives across the organization’s six club locations.

Guests will enjoy Joe’s Stone Crab’s iconic menu during one of the final weeks of stone crab season, with registration and reception beginning at 11 a.m., followed by lunch and entertainment at noon.

Channel 7 News Anchor Belkys Nerey will return as master of ceremonies. The event is co-chaired by mother-daughter duo Lisa Mendelson and Lindsey Mendelson Pearson, with Olga Guilarte serving as Special Events Chair.
“Claws for Kids” is held in memory of Judy Kramer, who helped create the event and chaired it from its inception until her passing in 2021. Her leadership helped establish the luncheon as one of the organization’s premier annual fundraisers supporting youth development in Miami-Dade County.

“We are proud to celebrate 15 years of ‘Claws for Kids’ during our 80th anniversary year,” said Alex Rodriguez-Roig, president of Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade. “This event represents our community coming together to ensure local youth have access to the programs and resources they need to succeed and build great futures.”

Supporters unable to attend may still participate by purchasing sponsorship gift cards through the Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade website, allowing them to enjoy Joe’s Stone Crab at a later date while supporting the cause.
