In celebration of Haitian Heritage Month, join us for the first session of an art workshop facilitated by Chabon at PAMM. Chabon is a monthly art series created and curated by Bacheler, a multidisciplinary Haitian artist, using charcoal as the main medium.

The series explores identity, memory, and human connection through raw and evocative visual art. Each edition of Chabon transforms the space into a soulful, immersive experience where art meets community—blending live art creation, music, and conversation around creativity, culture, and resilience. Chabon aims to use art as a bridge to connect people, stories, and emotions through the simplicity and depth of charcoal and other mediums. The workshop series will continue on June 25 and July 30.

Learn about the landmark people, places and legal cases that built Broward County in History Fort Lauderdale’s newest exhibition, “Justice from The Sea to The Sawgrass: A History of the Broward County Judiciary.” This free exhibition will be on view at the New River Inn (231 SW 2nd Ave. in Downtown Fort Lauderdale) from May 1 – 30 before it moves to its permanent home in the Broward County Courthouse.

History buffs will learn about the Broward County Judiciary’s rich (and sometimes, storied) past beginning with its incorporation in 1915. Through archival photographs, artifacts and legal documents, visitors will view the original buildings housing the county’s judicial system, learn about Broward’s first judge, Jacob F. Bunn (1915-1920), its first female judicial officer, Eunice C. Rencher, the first female judge to be elected to a state bench, Mildred Akerman, and first two African American judges, Thomas J. Reddick, Jr., and Alcee Hastings. Also on display are several legal documents, articles and photos documenting the highly publicized national investigation of the death of celebrity Anna Nicole Smith and the infamous 2000 Florida Election Recount. Judicial robes and other personal effects from several previous judges and legal representatives add to the exhibit’s significance.

This exhibit has been created with the generous support of Broward County Hispanic Bar Association, Honorable Florence Taylor Barner, Honorable Hope Bristol, Honorable Robert F. Diaz, Honorable Jane Fishman, Honorable Lisa Flanigan, Honorable Marina Garcia-Wood, Honorable Peggy Gehl, Honorable Kenneth Gottlieb, Honorable Daniel Kanner, Honorable Kristin Kanner, Honorable Robert W. Join Locust Projects for the final Locust Late @ The DiLL of the 2025–26 season! For our season finale, we are looking at how our online and offline lives intertwine, kicking off with a hands-on workshop using live-action role-play (LARP) to thoughtfully probe our relationship with digital systems by artist educator Fereshteh Toosi. This is followed by a participatory performance activated by a secret Discord chat by artist Roxana Barba. Artists of all skill levels are encouraged to #BYOL (Bring Your Own Laptop) and follow along.

7pm Workshop | Fereshteh Toosi: Hacking Reality: exploring tech entanglements through play
Reflecting on this past season of digital innovation, how do invisible systems continue to shape our behavior and values? This workshop by artist educator Fereshteh Toosi uses live-action role-play (LARP) as a way to probe our relationship with digital systems without needing to write code or build machines. Through short, improvisational games, participants step into speculative realities shaped by surveillance, data clouds, and offline zones. The workshop ends with a discussion about what these playful scenarios reveal about our lived experiences.

9pm Performance | Roxana Barba: secret group chat (beta test)
For the final performance of the season, movement artist Roxana Barba invites the audience into a secret Discord chat room projected live in the DiLL. Thinking about how we translate our offline experiences online and back, whatever the crowd types becomes a score for improvised movement, with visuals and sound layered in real time. In turn, this playful experiment in artist-audience participation results in a generative feedback loop of endless permutating performances.

This event is free and open to the public, and presented as part of the Knight Digital Innovation Initiative at Locust Projects. Complimentary refreshments are available for guests aged 21 and older courtesy of our 2025–26 sponsors The Tank Brewing Co. and Topo Chico.

A conversation led by COMMISSIONER.US

6 PM Doors open, 6:30 PM Talk starts, 7:30 PM Activity

Complimentary admission with RSVP. Limited seated based on first-come, first-served.

Commissioner, Miami’s longest-running community-led art commissioning program, leads a conversation exploring how art and collecting can serve as tools for truth-telling, memory, and cultural reclamation. Inspired by artist Isaac Julien’s Vagabondia (2000), soon on view at The Bass, the invited panel will also consider the evolving role and responsibility of individuals and communities in the cultural stewardship and preservation of inclusive narratives.

In addition to the talk, guests can partake in a public art walk—an activity to reflect on how shared experiences and cultural memories are recorded in our very own neighborhoods. This exercise will encourage participants to consider how their stories contribute to a broader, more expansive historical record, and how these memories can be preserved for future generations.
