As a Pilot run for the GLOBES ON LINCOLN, The Students from MAC school have been working hard on getting their themed “Vacation”, “FREEDOM OF SPEECH”, “ABRAHAM LINCOLN” & “Environment” globes ready for all to view on November 12th. The art will be on display all day to the public in the “Living Room” at the Ritz Carlton, 1 Lincoln Road, Miami Beach. LIGHT Refreshments & Valet parking will be available. Please join us in supporting the GLOBES ON LINCOLN ART PILOT.

Lincoln Road is the second pedestrian mall in the country! And the Largest! It was designed in the Post-War era; by the MId-century MOdern (MIMO) architect Morris Lapidus. This Green, Lush tropical WONDERLAND is in the heart of Miami Beach, where “A car never bought anything!” Lapidus closed Carl Fisher’s Lincoln Road into a pedestrian mall and it opened on December 4th 1960. The GLOBES ON LINCOLN ART WRAP allows her communities to revisit their HISTORICAL ROOTS, The Beaches and Lincoln Road.

If our special event permit is approved (YES!!!We still need your support with City Commissioners) The GLOBES ON LINCOLN committee will “Wrap” the 43 Globes with 43 themes in the history of Miami Beach & Lincoln Road. The history will weave together the stories of Miami Beach’s histories spanning 100 years. The wrapped decorated GLOBES ON LINCOLN will occur on the 5 sidewalks at Drexel, Pennsylvania, Meridian, Jefferson and Lenox. The GLOBES ON LINCOLN will feature art from Community children and artists as well as invitation to internationally exhibited artists and will be held on the streets. This will be the first GLOBES ON LINCOLN ART WRAP.

Located on the pedestrian mall crossing Lincoln road the Globes are accessible 24/7 for viewing. There will be printed materials to tell the 43 themed stories. Sponsors will be asked to assist as art juror’s and / or, based on their contribution, be given wrist bands and printed materials for their customers to direct people to their sponsored GLOBE ON LINCOLN. These Jury initiated special GLOBES ON LINCOLN ART WRAPS will bring fresh energy to the pedestrian walk on Lincoln road and will showcase the art of DCPS children on the globes. As well gallery exhibits, Print material and local media TV, Radio, print and internet coverage will ensure exposure of the art and the artists as the GLOBES ON LINCOLN ART WRAP.

During the most talked about event taking place on Miami Beach, participants will be assigned three topics to photograph during Sleepless Night. Night Shift (Collins Park)
The Bass Museum of Art will once again be the center of activity during Sleepless Night with “Night Shift,” a group of exciting and unexpected site-specific installations and sculptures in Collins Park curated by Jerome Sans. Sans was the founder and co-director of the world-acclaimed Palais de Tokyo, the cutting- edge contemporary art center that opened in Paris in 2002. Currently he is Director of one of the first nonprofit art centers in Beijing, the Ullens Center of Contemporary Art, and is Cultural Curator for Le Meridien Group. He was co-curator of the Paris Nuit Blanche in 2006, and is also a rock musician and DJ – he’ll be providing the live soundtrack for “Night Shift.”
Participating South Florida artists include Jim Drain and Brooke O-Harra, Christy Gast, Julie Kahn, Nicolas Lobo, Ernesto Oroza & Gean Moreno, Tom Scicluna, and Frances Trombly. A very unique collaborative piece “Viking Funeral” will also be featured, that is a monolithic 30′ Nirvana “t-shirt” that can be explored from the inside out!

A video project by Elena Tejada-Herrera, a multimedia artist who regards her artwork as Cultural exchanges. She was born in Peru and lives in Miami, where she is a professor of visual arts at Miami International University of Art and Design. Edouard Duval-Carrie’s UNDER THE CONGO MOON moving sculptures and Ra Ra Parade preview

Internationally renowned Haitian artist Edouard Duval Carrié promises to create quite a show with the performance he is calling “Under the Congo Moon.” Duval Carrié explores the theme of migration in his artwork; for Sleepless Night, he will create several large sculptures of voodoo gods and have them “migrate” down the streets of Miami Beach in an exciting parade with music from a live band. The motorized parade begins with a preview at Ocean Terrace and proceeds to Ocean Drive.

Local Haitian artist, Edouard Duval Carrié also promises to create quite a show with the performance he is calling “Under the Congo Moon.” Duval Carrié explores the theme of migration in his artwork; for Sleepless Night, he will create several large sculptures of voodoo gods and have them “migrate” down the streets of Miami Beach in an exciting parade with music from a live band. The parade ends on Ocean Drive, where Duval Carrié, the band, and the voodoo gods stop to interact with people on the street.

First up on Friday, October 30 at 8:00PM is JAZZ IN THE 30s (& BEYOND). SoBe Arts Jazz Ensemble, featuring Montserrat Franco, vocals, Oscar Salas, drummer and Felix Gomez, keyboards. Enjoy the music of Raymond Scott, Cab Calloway, Joe Primrose, Duke Ellington and many more great jazz composers of this very creative era.

Next up on Saturday, October 31 at 7:30 is CLASSICAL HORSES OF WAR. SoBe Arts Chamber Ensemble, featuring several “warhorses” of classical music most often used in cartoons and in many symphony subscription concerts over the years. Only this time played in chamber ensemble versions in the intimate and beautiful Carl Fisher Clubhouse Hear the music you never thought you would hear like this, Edvard Grieg’s Morning Music from Peer Gynt; Franz Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2; Gioachino Rossini’s William Tell Overture and more.

Sleepless Night 2009 is right around the corner and this year, Bass Museum of Art will once again be the center of activity with “Night Shift,” a collection of installations and sculptures in Collins Park from 6pm – 2am. Set to live music from artist/DJ Jerome Sans, a highlight of the exhibition is a collaborative piece titled “Viking Funeral” that is a monolithic 30-foot Nirvana “t-shirt” that can be explored from the inside out.

The Bass Museum of Art will once again be the center of activity during Sleepless Night with “Night Shift,” a group of exciting and unexpected site-specific installations and sculptures in Collins Park curated by Jerome Sans. Sans was the founder and co-director of the world-acclaimed Palais de Tokyo, the cutting-edge contemporary art center that opened in Paris in 2002. Currently he is Director of one of the first nonprofit art centers in Beijing, the Ullens Center of Contemporary Art, and is Cultural Curator for Le Meridien Group. He was co-curator of the Paris Nuit Blanche in 2006, and is also a rock musician and DJ – he’ll be providing the live soundtrack for “Night Shift.”

Participating South Florida artists include Jim Drain and Brooke O-Harra, Christy Gast, Julie Kahn, Nicolas Lobo, Ernesto Oroza & Gean Moreno, Tom Scicluna, and Frances Trombly. A very unique collaborative piece “Viking Funeral” will also be featured, that is a monolithic 30′ Nirvana “t-shirt” that can be explored from the inside out!

Hello everyone! I’m pleased to announce that student artwork from Miami Arts Charter School will be on display at the Ritz Carlton, Miami Beach on Nov. 12th. Part of the “Globes on Lincoln” project, we have created conceptual works of art that consider the 100 year history of Miami Beach. This outstanding public art event is being directed and created by architect Deborah Desilets, local legend in the arts and former colleague of Morris Lapidus. There will be ongoing events, culminating in the installation of our kids’ art on the “globes” (the cement spheres that block traffic on Lincoln Rd) later in the year. The Ritz Carlton event is our major press event and kick-off party.
