Learn about the landmark people, places and legal cases that built Broward County in History Fort Lauderdale’s newest exhibition, “Justice from The Sea to The Sawgrass: A History of the Broward County Judiciary.” This free exhibition will be on view at the New River Inn (231 SW 2nd Ave. in Downtown Fort Lauderdale) from May 1 – 30 before it moves to its permanent home in the Broward County Courthouse.

History buffs will learn about the Broward County Judiciary’s rich (and sometimes, storied) past beginning with its incorporation in 1915. Through archival photographs, artifacts and legal documents, visitors will view the original buildings housing the county’s judicial system, learn about Broward’s first judge, Jacob F. Bunn (1915-1920), its first female judicial officer, Eunice C. Rencher, the first female judge to be elected to a state bench, Mildred Akerman, and first two African American judges, Thomas J. Reddick, Jr., and Alcee Hastings. Also on display are several legal documents, articles and photos documenting the highly publicized national investigation of the death of celebrity Anna Nicole Smith and the infamous 2000 Florida Election Recount. Judicial robes and other personal effects from several previous judges and legal representatives add to the exhibit’s significance.

This exhibit has been created with the generous support of Broward County Hispanic Bar Association, Honorable Florence Taylor Barner, Honorable Hope Bristol, Honorable Robert F. Diaz, Honorable Jane Fishman, Honorable Lisa Flanigan, Honorable Marina Garcia-Wood, Honorable Peggy Gehl, Honorable Kenneth Gottlieb, Honorable Daniel Kanner, Honorable Kristin Kanner, Honorable Robert W. An indie dance party for the ones who still romanticize a scratched iPod, American Spirits, and a blurry night soundtracked by bloghouse and post-punk revival. All Your Friends is at The Banyan Live on 8 May 2026, bringing the sweat, synths, and nostalgia of the early 2010’s house party.

This is your basement-floor flashback to tight jeans, smudged eyeliner, and nights that felt like a house show turned afterparty. Expect a high-energy dance floor fueled by indie sleaze classics and remixes you forgot you loved, from LCD Soundsystem and The Rapture to Foals, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV on the Radio, MGMT, Crystal Castles, and more. No frills, just bodies in motion.

Whether you never left the Lower East Side or just miss the chaos of that era, All Your Friends is a night dedicated to bad decisions, blown speakers, and the soundtrack of your favorite forgotten memories. Come ready for the sweat, the noise, and the party your Tumblr warned you about at The Banyan Live.

Open the Door to Your Heart: A Night of Impact Returns to South Florida

The Women’s Breast & Heart Initiative (WBHI) invites the community to an unforgettable evening of purpose and celebration as its signature Open the Door to Your Heart Dinner Dance returns on May 8, 2026, at the JW Marriott Miami Turnberry Resort & Spa.

Marking 21 years of life-saving impact, this highly anticipated event brings together more than 400 community leaders, advocates, and supporters dedicated to advancing early detection and disease prevention across South Florida.

Hosted by Emmy Award-winning journalists Kristi Krueger and Mayte Padron of WPLG Local 10, the evening promises elegance and energy—from exceptional cuisine and cocktails to dancing and live entertainment by the Jon Saxx Entertainment Group.

More than a celebration, the night is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when a community comes together. WBHI has spent over two decades connecting women, families, and college students to critical health resources—ensuring access to screenings, education, and care coordination that can truly save lives.

This year’s event is led by Co-Chairs Andrés Correa and Bettina Correa, whose leadership continues to expand WBHI’s reach and impact.

Guests will also experience:
– The 2026 Pillar Awards, honoring Turnberry, Jack and Jill South Miami Associates, and Dr. Lorena Rosero
– Exclusive silent and live auctions, featuring once-in-a-lifetime experiences such as a Miami Marlins First Pitch, a Goodyear Blimp ride, a Golden Beach VIP water tour, and a seven-day Princess Cruises voyage

Every moment of the evening supports a greater mission. Proceeds directly fund WBHI’s programs, delivering critical prevention and early detection services to underserved communities across South Florida.

Open the door to your heart—and help open the door to care for someone who needs it most.
