Join Miami Light Project as we celebrate 21 years!

We kick off our 21st Season on Saturday, November 7, 2009
with an all night party of FREE performances during
Miami Beach’s Sleepless Night!

Come early and join us for cocktails at the FIllmore at Jackie Gleason Theater at 6:00pm where saxophonist Carlos Averhoff Jr and the IRESI Quintet
will kick off the 3rd Annual Global Cuba Fest at 7pm. Walk with us over to the Colony Theater at 8pm for brilliant dance by CIE Julie Dossavi, and then its back to the Fillmore for our raucous Global Cuba Fest Dance Off with Br@ily and Jose “Pepito” Gomez!

Infusing contemporary African dance forms with jolts of high fashion and street culture, the mesmerizing Julie Dossavi presents a collection of solos and duets accompanied by live African percussion, voice and electronic music. This Paris-based, Benin-born dancer and choreographer draws on sources from electronic dance music and club culture to gymnastics and tribal ritual to shape distinctive works that are modern, ethnic, expressive and abstract-and always alive with a distillation of human experience.

The 3rd Annual Global Cuba Fest features a showcase of some of the best of contemporary and time-honored Cuban rhythms, with three extraordinary musical groups mixing the diverse rhythms and genres from around the world to create a new and fresh global Cuban sound!

The night begins with the smooth grooves of the Boston-based Jazz saxophonist Carlos Averhoff Jr. and the IRESI Quintet, followed by a raucous Salsa/Timba “Miami vs. New York” Dance Party between the amazing Miami-based Timba and Salsa trombone player and singer, Br@ily, whose unique electrifying performances show off his non-stop energy and virtuosity and with New York-based vocalist Jose “Pepito” Gomez and his band, hailed by the New York Times as “another order of performer.”

Keeping the party going all night, DJ Snowhite and DJ Duni will spin in the Fillmore lobby between performance sets!
