BREVARDS GALLERY ANNOUNCES ITS OPENING IN WYNWOOD ARTS DISTRICT
Brevards Gallery celebrates its opening in Miami’s Wynwood Arts District. Artist, designer and gallery owner, John Brevard, is currently exhibiting his work and will have a special opening event, invite-only, at the gallery March 3, 2010.
Brevard’s art and design is conceptual, functional and ecological. “Steel and petrified wood series: Merging Economy and Ecology†is made from materials such as, petrified wood (a natural artifact whose age ranges from millions to hundreds of millions of years) and steel to reflect the connection between man and nature and to demonstrate the potential for humanity to merge economy with ecology. His artwork is two-dimensional as well as three-dimensional with pieces such as tables that are interactive and can be rotated for use. Inspired by a deep ecological awareness and transpersonal experience, he uses art to depict his own self-awareness as a means to integrate functionality with aesthetics.
His, “Black and white series: The Death of the False Self†was created to illustrate the deconstruction and expansion of his personality. The drawings are puzzle-like labyrinths of faces and images. He states, “ I processed several deeply transformational states of consciousness experienced between 2001-2005.†and his work echoes those experiences.
Raised in Miami, Florida, Brevard began his journey into the realm of the transcendent through meditation and transpersonal studies. His quest for truth has led him around the world, from the depths of the Peruvian Amazon to the outskirts of Thailand, where he explored the spiritual traditions of indigenous cultures and witnessed their interpretations of sacred states through various forms of art.
Brevard graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor in Architecture and masters in Science and Sustainable Design and Construction. He has combined the experiential insights of his expeditions with his knowledge of sacred geometry and his predilection for ancient, natural artifacts to create a new expression of design, which fosters his awareness of the timeless dimension within. His mission is to understand consciousness, physics and ecology.
When creating his art, he manually extracts his materials using skilled excavators therefore; there is no heavy machinery or disruption to the soil. Also, ten percent of his proceeds from the sales of his artwork are given to sustainable organizations of the buyer’s choice.
Brevards Gallery is located at 2320 N. Miami Avenue, in the Wynwood Arts District. For more information, or to make an appointment with John Brevard, please call (305) 576-5747 or visit www.brevards.com

DESIGNER BIOGRAPHIES:
By Smith: Created in 2009, By Smith is a collection of sophisticated, chic apparel for women. By Smith is most notably identified by its elegant pairings of bold patterns and vibrant solids. Sourced in Bangkok, Thailand, each piece is made of natural hand woven silk material. The contemporary designs place a spin on the classic looks that so many women adore. The designer, Smith Sinrod, graduated with a degree in Apparel Design from the University of Alabama. Always the little girl in the boldest outfits and unique accessories, Smith realized her passion for fabrics and bright colors as a child. She worked for set designer Mary Howard, who has produced photo shoot sets for iconic fashion magazines such as Vogue, ‘W’ and Vanity Fair. After travelling to Thailand in search of inspiration and business resources, Sinrod later returned with her first full collection in the making.
Duskin: The brainchild of designer Stephanie Tran, Duskin made its debut to rave reviews for Spring 2009. Barely a year old, Duskin has already appeared in Elle, InStyle and style.com. In the middle of a retail slump, with many stores cutting the number of lines they carry, Duskin has defied the odds by gaining traction in always-ahead-of-the-curve stores like Steven Alan in New York and Confederacy in Los Angeles. The runaway success of the line would be surprising if one weren’t familiar with Tran’s pedigree. With stints in retail, editorial and design prior to starting her own collection, Tran has a comprehensive approach to building her company’s brand identity and aesthetic that sets her apart from the pack. Her innate style of offhand chic was honed in the halls of Vogue Magazine, American Eagle Outfitters and Forever 21 and it’s that unique blend of high and low, fantasy and practicality, flash and function that gives shape to the beauty of Duskin.
Fernanda Carneiro: Carneiro showed a penchant for design at a young age, cultivating her creativity under the watchful eye of her paternal grandmother, from whom she inherited her refined taste for clothing design and impeccable construction. Growing up in Miami and Los Angeles further exposed her to a wide variety of cultural and stylistic influences, and translated into the designer’s inclination towards free-spirited designs and rich colorways. Upon graduation from the University of Florida she worked in both production and design for major fashion labels including BCBG Max Azria. Carneiro has garnered attention from press including Lucky, Latino Future, and Daily Candy as well as celebrities including Julie Benz, Roselyn Sanchez, and Melonie Diaz.
Lialia: A cleverly crafted namesake line from designers Julia and Natalia Alarcon. Two sisters with individual personalities combined the harmonizing elements in their names and shared creative vision to create Lialia – a modern interpretation of classic elegance. Fused with hints of the designers’ Spanish heritage, Lialia translates their experiences at Parsons School of Design, where they studied under the likes of Cristof Beaufays – Creative Assistant to Jean Paul Gaultier, and work at the houses of Oscar de la Renta, Phi and Reyes, into their own distinct design sensibilities. The result is a versatile collection of richly detailed and tailored, high-end day and eveningwear. In addition to Women’s Wear Daily, their work has been featured in Papierdoll, Latina, Monocle and Fashion Windows
Romina Heighes: Roming Heighes is a high-end ready-to-wear designer and her name is quickly growing within the fashion industry. A graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology, one of the top fashion schools in the U.S., Heighes’ dream of becoming a fashion designer began at a young age. Her inspirations come from moving to different cities with her family. Spending the majority of her life in Miami, it’s no surprise that the colorful and cosmopolitan City has been a great part of Heighes’ inspiration. Being part of a thriving Latin community strengthened her visual and creative drive. While living in New York, Heighes had the opportunity to work with some of the distinguished designers that inspire her on a daily basis – American designer Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs of the Louis Vuitton group, and world-renowned Venezuelan designer Carolina Herrera, to name a few. A great deal of her success today can be attributed to those learning experiences. She has also had the privilege of attending and working in New York Fashion Week for the past five years.
Whitney Eve by WHITNEY PORT: Whitney Port was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. Two years ago, she moved across the country to NYC and began working for Diane Von Furstenberg. After a year there, Whitney’s path took her back to work at Kelly Cutrone’s PR firm, People’s Revolution. It was here that she decided to make her dream of becoming a fashion designer a reality. Her line, Whitney Eve, which had its first runway show during Fashion Week 2009, showcases Whitney’s creativity and knack for style. It’s sophisticated yet comfortable cocktail attire, featuring feminine dresses, tops, skirts, sweaters and jackets. Whitney’s Fall 2010 line is her third complete collection. Whitney Eve can be found online and in various high-end boutiques.
ACCESSORY DESIGNERS:
B.RAWLINGS: A luxury accessories brand, by designer Brittany Rawlings, had its genesis on Margarita Island in 2009. Inspired by the natural beauty of the island while visiting and the abundance of semi-precious gemstones, Brittany began to experiment and design pieces back home in south Florida during her study breaks from law school finals. The B.RAWLINGS jewelry collection is a juxtaposition of semi-precious stones and metals in various colors, textures and sheens. Each piece is functionally and complimentarily designed, allowing the jewelry to be adjusted in size, worn together, and layered. The signature Miami collection is a composite of brightly colored stones, in radiant shades of hot pink fuchsia, turquoise and red coral, which compliment Miami’s obsession with white and summery looks. The New York collection boasts a darker, glamorous, and more urban aesthetic, including interwoven metallic chain with gold and leather. For more information please visit www.brawlings.com.
Babette Epaulette: Seville Michelle Anastos discovered her creative voice at an early age. Whether she was expressing herself through her wardrobe, which entailed unexpected pairings of fabrics, colors, and patterns or through her painting and writing, Seville Michelle has always felt that she has something important to say: “You have to be past possible. We all dream of the possible but being past it, means you’re living it.†In New York City, Seville Michelle went to work at a major fashion publicity house where she immediately fell in love with the openness of the fashion world. She furthered her career in fashion by continuing on at a fashion publicity firm two years later. It was through these experiences she established lasting relationships in the fashion industry which launched her career as a fashion stylist and assistant art director. Inspired by a well-known pop star, Seville Michelle created her line of accessories, Babette Epaulette, by the following her instinctual fashion intuition and style. Since launching in October 2009, Babette Epaulette has been featured in Accessories magazine, DailyCandy.com, Glamour.com and many other publications, websites and fashion blogs.
Rella Jewelry: Cindy Borjas, Rella Jewelry designer, graduated from the Art Institute in Downtown Miami, with a degree in Fashion Marketing/Merchandising, but it was her history of fashion classes where she found her niche. As a result of her fashion history curriculum, she became an assistant for Elizabeth Kohen Martinez while she wrote “The Vintage Clothing Price Guideâ€. An avid collector of vintage clothing and accessories for over 10 years, she was able to bring personal experience to the project while she photographed, cataloged and documented the precious pieces. It was truly a once in a lifetime opportunity. From her education and passion for the past, Rella was conceived to bring to women jewelry with historical significance and a modern twist. Rella Jewelry can be purchased at Oyuki and Lola y Maria in Miami.

FASHIONmiami aims to turn that spotlight on fashion and create a destination for designers, press and buyers. www.fashionmiamishows.com
FASHIONmiami will launch this winter (2010), with a schedule of Fall/Winter 2010 collection runway shows and events taking place from March 10th to March 13th at the stunning 35,000 sq ft temporary structure in the heart of the Design District. The design district has been dubbed the “SoHo†of Miami by the Financial Times, and “A Mecca for those in search of style†by the New York Times. The neighborhood is home to FASHIONmiami , Design Miami, Limited Edition Experiences and hosts an array of events associated with Art Basel Miami Beach.
“The concept behind FASHIONmiami stems from the idea to consolidate multiple fashion events around the city and house them all under one roof – in one week†says FASHIONmiami co-founder Alain Perez. “We will now host Gen-Art’s Fresh Faces shows, the FGI Emerging Designers Competition presented by Chrysler, Custo Barcelona, Funkshion, as well as multiple independently produced runway shows and showcases.â€
“We are extremely pleased to have our 6th annual Fresh Faces in Fashion Miami show open FASHIONmiami in the fabulous Design District – which also has been home to our Miami Art Basel events for the past two years!†said Gen Art CEO/Founder Ian Gerard.
“FASHIONmiami promises to be an extraordinary event. The runway shows coupled with the ancillary programming will provide a platform for showcasing the innovation and creativity in today’s fashion industry. FASHIONmiami – which is rich in content, creativity and combines commercial interests that are relevant to consumers – is just the type of programming we strive to promote in the Miami Design District. We are pleased that FASHIONmiami will call the Miami Design District its home.†Says Craig Robins, president and CEO of Dacra Development.
The Miami Design District (www.miamidesigndistict.net) is a unique, 18 square-block neighborhood just north of downtown Miami. The Miami Design District is the location of choice for exclusive retailers and fashion brands. The Miami Design District is also home to world-renowned furniture and design companies and art galleries.
Since 1925, the Chrysler brand has delighted customers with distinctive designs, allowing drivers around the world to always “Arrive in Style.” Fashion Week Miami represents the perfect platform to support not only the fashion industry, but the ideals of design and craftsmanship, along with intuitive innovation and technology. These are shared traits between the Chrysler brand and the talented designers that show and illustrate in their collections during FASHIONmiami.

April 28th Fior Entertainment Presents eMERGE Fashion Show, headliner Fashion by Azucar and music provided by DJ Entice (WEDR-FM / 99Jamz /Flo Rida’s DJ) will begin at 8p. Make sure you don’t miss this fashionable event!
eMERGE trade show is having its 1st annual event, which will be held in Miami, Florida on April 27 and 28th, 2010. The show will be held at the beautiful Hilton Miami Downtown, overlooking the intracoastal waterways and downtown Miami. eMERGE targets retailers that are in search of for the hottest apparel and clothing companies an outlet for the world to view their artwork.
eMERGE is an innovative fashion trade show for upcoming and emerging brands, to showcase their collections to the best boutiques and retailers. Most conventional trade shows do not focus their attention on independent companies that are yearning for exposure in the fashion market. eMERGE is here to assist these brands in growing their business to become the next big “IT†FACTOR. Brands attending eMERGE are breaking barriers and aren’t afraid to take risks to be a recognizable force in the market, and therefore, they will….â€ARISE AND CONQUERâ€
Founded by two individuals who understand and have been in the same position as the brands that will attend eMERGE, so they understand their positions and know that they want to prosper if given the opportunity to do so. One of the founders runs a clothing company and knows how much is needed to run an effective brand. Constantly being put in a position to come up with obscene amounts of funds that was unobtainable to gain exposure. eMERGE will allow clothing companies to showcase their goods in a Metropolitan city for a low, cost effective price. Retailers will be introduced to brands that are usually overlooked at major trade shows. eMERGE will give them both a platform to meet in order to grow their businesses; to bring what is hidden into plain view.
eMERGE is pleased to announce that a portion of all proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society and Kids off Streets.

“Jewelry Salon” was born out of a desire to expose new ideas that merge design, art and fashion to our Miami as well as international audience that descend upon the city every December.
Noticing that some artists are producing jewelry pieces for themselves, the aim of the “Artist Limited Editions” section of the Salon, is to showcase these works which are generally not presented publicly and to encourage this form of design. Some of the editions for ‘Jewelry Salon’ have been especially made in collaboration with NDS.
The “Designer ” section of the Salon, is a sample of pieces that best reflect new ideas in design and process, made by emerging and established contemporary labels, originating from the Netherlands, Paris, Berlin, London, Miami and NY among others.
Nektar De Stagni Shop (NDS) is a concept store directed by clothing and jewelry designer Nektar De Stagni. The store functions both as a boutique and showroom space for NDS label as well as special projects and organized events by invited artists and designers.

Fashion Trade Show to Showcase Emerging Brands
eMERGE Trade Show announces details for their April 2010 fashion trade show. This is a fashion trade show geared towards the hottest upcoming and emerging brands in streetwear, surf, skate and contemporary markets for men and women.
eMERGE trade show is having its 1st annual event, which will be held in Miami, Florida on April 27 and 28th, 2010.

Party Rock www.partyrocklife.com
On a mission to capture their party into a way of life, and get everyone else on the LMFAO wagon, they started making original dance songs in their studio apartment to play in the clubs. In true DIY (Do-It-Yourself) fashion, Red and Sky released their “I’m In Miami Bitch†song on Myspace and branded their signature look — wearing loud colors, rockin’ glasses with no lenses and always stayin’ fly with one of their own self-designed shirts. To add to the list of entrepreneurial projects, they keep it real with their approach by running their own label and clothing line, Party Rock by LMFAO. “It’s always better to have a party in your life,” explains Foo. “Fun and laughter, the girls, dancing, celebrating… We want to feel the same way walking down the sidewalk as we do on stage.” Which explains an awful lot about their street attire. The guys, who are devout PETA members, favor pimp jackets, oversized glasses (minus the actual glass), faux fur embellishments and the occasional leopard spandex skin tight pants (girls sizes only). If it’s not vintage, then it’s their own Party Rock brand, which Foo and Sky wear exclusively. And their stylish strut seems to be working. “We get way more women now,” says Sky.
Septimo Boutique www.septimofashion.com
Silvia Fassardi’s Septimo label may stand for lucky number seven, but the recipient of this year’s GenArt Fresh Faces award is creating her own luck, becoming one of Miami’s most sought-after designers and, now, owner of a new South Miami boutique. Located on Bird Road, in the center of a thriving shopping district, Septimo is selling much more than the brand’s seven signature jewelry lines. That doesn’t mean fans will be disappointed. Expect to find most of Fassardi’s collection in its entirety in addition to a handpicked lineup of up-and-coming designers. The space is inviting, featuring burnt orange and chocolate brown accents surrounding organic décor.

BACKGROUND ON COCONUT GROVE CARES
Founded in 1948 by Elizabeth Virrick and Father Theodore Gibson to fight social injustice, Coconut Grove Cares (CGC) has a legacy of building a better community for the children and families in the West Grove neighborhood. CGC’s The Barnyard is a very unique place—a safe-haven for children and a trusted resource for adults and social service providers. Over 400 children and families benefit from the Barnyard’s After School and Summer Programs and their workshops and services for the adult community. All programs are free of charge and costs are kept to a minimum to ensure funds directly benefit families. I have personally spent time at The Barnyard, and it is inspiring to see how many children and families this place and programming helps.
Recently, The Barnyard has also become a meeting place for families displaced by the new construction and gradual gentrification of the West Grove. There has never been a greater need for the After-School and Summer Programs as students from as far as Carol City attend as a means to stay close to their neighborhood and extended family. As soon as The Barnyard doors open, the children come pouring in.

Suit up for what is sure to be summer’s sexiest event
The search is on to find the face of Nikki Beach 2009
WHAT: Beginning this Saturday Nikki Beach invites Miami’s finest females participate in summer’s hottest competition: become the Face of Nikki Beach 2009. The ultimate see-and-be-seen event begins this Independence Day at 1pm where girls can line up for casting calls, donning their favorite swimsuit, prepared with a head shot (recommended) while sipping on a complimentary drink. Once girls are registered, they will participate in a fashion show judged by special celebrity guests (TBA) beginning at 2pm. After the show, two girls are awarded spots to compete in the final fashion show in September. All registered contestants from that day, however, still have a chance at winning a spot in the final competition. Join www.NikkiBeachMusic.com where members can vote online for their favorite model; details and photos of each girl are listed there. The official Face of Nikki Beach 2009 will be announced after the final fashion show in September and will receive prizes valued at over $3000: a gift bag, an editorial feature in the internationally distributed Nikki Style Magazine, a weekend stay for 2 at Nikki Beach Resort Turks & Caicos and a 1 year Nikki VIP Platinum membership.

With a reputation for catering to international crowds mingling in a maze of bikini-clad bodies, gleaming white d’cor and equally beautiful clientele and staff, it comes as no surprise that Nikki Beach Miami holds the title as the “World’s Sexiest Beach Bar” from the Travel Channel’s March broadcast. For over a decade, locals and travelers alike have been flocking to the South Beach hotspot for sun, sounds, and the occasional (or rather frequent) champagne spray. This summer, Nikki Beach turns up the heat as the host of Nikki Style Model Search, a summer long competition to find the face of Nikki Beach Miami 2009.
A joint effort between Nikki Style, Nikki Beach’s international luxury lifestyle magazine, and the legendary One Ocean Drive locale, Nikki Style Model Search is the perfect way to check out (and vote for) Miami’s finest. The ultimate see-and-be-seen event begins July 4 at 1pm where girls can line up for casting calls, complimentary drinks in hand, that will last every weekend throughout the summer. Details and photos are uploaded to NikkiBeachMusic.com, where Nikki Beach members and VIPs can join the online community and vote. The winner will be selected and announced at a later date in September.
Registration will take place every weekend starting this weekend from 1pm to 2pm and will immediately be followed by a fashion show with all of the registered participants, beginning at 2pm. Contestants must present a head shot and come prepared with swimwear.

DJs:
DJ Way

In Chinese philosophy, the concept of yin yang is used to describe how seemingly disjunct or opposing forces are interconnected and interdependent in the natural world, giving rise to each other in turn. Artistically, DJ Way cultivates yin and yang expressions through the exposure of classical & house music. He holds Masters and Undergraduate performance degress from the prestegious Juilliard School, NYC. While studing classical music at the conservatory his weekend passion for house music evolved from dance floors into the DJ booth. Way’s mixing style and track selection are a direct influence from his expertise in understanding tonal & harmonic implications, performance practice, texture, and musical form. He is known for his musically acrobatic style. Way has traveled across the world performing classical music… along this road he’s left his mark on the underground house music scene as well. Currently residing in Miami, FL Way performs with numerous ensembles including Naples Philharmonic, Sarasota Symphony, Seraphic Fire Chamber Orchestra, Florida Grand Opera, & Palm Beach Opera. He is also a former member of New World Symphony. As DJ Way, he’s held residencies at Float (NYC) as well as Blue, Black Sheep Bar, & Sixx Lounge (Miami). For upcoming events or promotional materials please contact: djway830@gmail.com

DJ Alan Stenback

A musician and entertainer since an early age, Alan is skilled on several instruments from keyboards to strings. While growing up outside of Cleveland, OH, well before dedicating himself to the turntables and mixing board, Alan picked up the guitar. He spent several years gaining valuable classical guitar training, while simultaneously finding his harder edge on the electric guitar. Thick, driving distortions and drop-d tunings were the bread and butter of his upfront style.
Presently, in the recording studio, Alan dedicates himself to original production and remix work spanning the genres of house and techno. Never complacent, Alan continually evolves his style to satisfy the thirst for new and creative material, and challenge the scene musically while staying true to himself and his roots. His DJing style is geared toward creating a great vibe for the party through impeccable programming and seamless mixing skills. His soundtracks range from tech-house and techno to acid, deep and classic house, while maintaining a solid, clubby groove.
– – – – –
DJ Sebastian C

Growing up outside of Toronto, Canada, Sebastian knew at a young age his passion was music. Picking up his first set of decks at the age of 14, he still remembers getting that first 1200 home and staring at it for hours. Passion is what this guy is all about.
Sebastian’s focus has now centering on making his own music to refine the other key technical ability expected of djs in this day and age: production skills. Last year was busy with releases on Nikola Gala’s Escada Music and Plastic City’s Galvanic label. 2009 promises even more with a forthcoming EP on Sultan and Ned Shepard’s esteemed Harem records imprint. Keeping his ear to the ground, expect great things to come from this up and coming producer.

DJ Soozin

Soozin is a Florida based DJ that has been playing music to dance floor enthusiasts for almost 10 years. She began DJing in 2000, in Gainesville, FL, and quickly began earning gigs at various clubs, including Full Circle, Bleu, and others. She began playing out in Orlando and south Florida shortly thereafter. Soozin now resides in Miami and still DJs regularly at various clubs in the tricounty area. She also recently gained international exposure, playing opening night at Liquid in Jaco Beach, Costa Rica. She is also Music Director for Life Is Art.

Pocket of Lollipops

Visuals by TM Sisters

And Dylan Romer

The musical performance is a range from an indefinite mix of culture and technology we have evolved a limitless sensation to stimulate various compression and transverse physical properties to produce a sense of intensity, which causes a direction of auditory art. We have paired this auditory art by providing different levels of illuminated projections that are distributed on the musical performers. The projections create a theatrical setting producing illusions of continuous interconnected changeovers to accommodate the sounds In the conclusion of the performance the viewing audience is treated to lollipops an invention that is still something of a mystery that dates back to the middle ages.
– – – –
UOM

UOM is a different type of musical project. I think that we are doing music that is unlike anything happening on the Miami scene right now. It’s not rock or pop, even though we carry a fair amount of rock & pop influences; but it’s not avant-garde classical either… we play without scores and with no affiliation to academies or institutions. But we do play music, and we do so with fun, soulfulness, and a lot of creativity. We place the emphasis on non-traditional instrumental techniques, and our approach to composition is collective and ususally totally improvised.

FEATURED VISUAL ARTISTS
Antonia Wright

I am a Miami born, Cuban-America artist, whose work employs photography, poetry, performance, installation, and video art and the interaction between these forms. My pieces are ‘social experiments’, highlighting the bizarre within the everyday façade of the ‘normal’.
– – – –
Brett Sauce

Brett Michael Sauce, was born and raised in Southern Louisiana. Just southwest of New Orleans, in the heart of Cajun country. Brett’s artistic talent became apparent very early in life. After completion of high school, Sauce attended the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, and graduated Advertising Design. He worked in advertising, from production artist, to art director, to freelance advertising illustrator. He has always specialized in airbrush. His artistic career encompasses corporate projects in Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, New York, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and New Orleans.
– – – –
Carla Fache

Painting is the faith within me, that endless hope that we as human beings carry through life. In my artwork as in my life, everyday brings a new challenge, a new goal to reach. When I paint, my canvas and I drift to another world, almost a dream world to me. All my senses come into play: my emotions, my eyes, my hands, my canvas, my ears… I’m in tune with myself, and all that surrounds me.
– – – –
Carol Kingsley

“In my long walks I’m fascinated at the beauty, light and life that exists in everything in nature and wish all through my paintings could see it, feel it and be grateful for it, as I am.” Venezuelan artist from british descent, has lived in Rio and Caracas and has been a Coral Gables resident since 1979. She received a Bachellors Degree in Fine Arts and Philosophy from Universidad Catolica Andres Bello. She likes to paint with a limited pallette using layers of washes that portray an exceptional display of shadows and amazing light which she certainly captures in her paintings.
– – – –
Daniel Marosi

This series of paintings is titled Wasted. The work showcases specific people known to my particular group of friends. The paintings are emblems of an urban tribe that lives mostly in South Beach. In my life there was a period of time after college when life got a little random and in between developing a career and bombing in love and experience, the messiness can fondly be remembered with all its awkward and freaky moments in these images.
– – – –
Deborah Weed

Water sculptures are the primary medium for my mixed media pieces. The result is a salubrious technique that takes color into a new arena of purity that is vivid, fluid and alive. Residing in trendy South Beach is my inspiration. The vibe here is bold and daring and my studio is literally on the white sandy beaches of the Atlantic Ocean. According to my collectors, my work titillates the senses and is very sensual.
– – – –
Eileen M. Baldwin

My art is inspired by my collective experience in music, advertising and exposure to multi-cultural influences. And by my curious, creative and spiritual nature. “Why paint?” It satisfies my desire to be inventive and to explore my creative sensibilities. Also, it’s the immediacy of painting and play of expression that appeals to me. I combine and contrast the abstract and representational. In part, my work may contain spiritual and symbolic references, figurative, abstracted images or the essence of nature. I work on canvas, masonite board or wood using acrylic, oil, metallic and other additives.
– – – –
Flex Maslan

I tend to seek out the unusual, un-photographed or under-photographed. On the flip side, I like to take some very common subjects or themes and develop them from a different perspective.
– – – –
GusColors

Artist Statement: To promote advancement of the cultural arts in all communities.

Jennifer Rivas

Born in Cali Colombia in 1983, Jennifer migrated to the U.S residing in New York. She moved to Miami Beach in 2006. She has background in performing arts and graphic design as well as music, and plans to continue her studies here in Fl.

Jovan Karlo Villalba
![]()
Through my art, I aim to create a gratifying and refreshing experience by stimulating contemplation and escapism in a viewer. I like to think of my paintings as puzzle segments that provide a glimpse of pictorial worlds that are inviting and free to inhabit. Through the juxtaposition of curious references, and the fusion of abstract marks, I assign unconventional roles to familiar imagery. The whimsical reconstructions of dislocated elements describe settings that emanate meaning over time, resulting in work that is simultaneously deliberate and vague.
– – – –
Rainer Langemann

I use metal squares to sculpt the human form, creating works that elicit both the strength and delicacy of the body. I concentrate on the human body in a modern interpretation of the classic art of sculpture.
– – – –
Rosa Naday Garmendia

As visual artist, I am interested in such themes as migration, uprooting, human identity, impermanence and the values we share and/or differ as a society. The consequences of migration and displacement at an early age are the single most determining events that have shaped my identity and compelled me to become an artist. I use the visual arts as a vehicle to stimulate ideas, provoke thought, and confront commonly accepted attitudes. My works are points of departure, rather than destinations.
– – – –
Tashmeha Ignacio

Obsessed with obsessive obsession. To do, do, do, and do again over, the same. And in the night to dream to do, and in the morning to crave to do. The drive driven by wanting to see the do, do, doing be done. To start to do all over again, to wonder how it can be done and done and done the same but differently this time. Do it big, do it bold, do, do, do it for you so you don’t have to. So you can see the result of the doing after it has already been done, and you can wonder what it is like to do it too.

R.E. SANCHEZ

R. E. Sanchez is a Miami-based artist whose work has been exhibited regularly in non-profit organizations and gallery venues. He is a Salvadoran expatriate who in 1989 relocated to the U.S. to pursue his passion for art. He received his Bachelor of Art (BFA) from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2000.

Primp Salon & Hair Extension Boutique will bring a breath of fresh air
to Miami Beachs’15th street on May 26th, 2009.

The once line of tattoo parlors and closed businesses that shaped 15th street will transform to a new look and feel with the opening of Primp Salon & Hair Extension Boutique in June 2009. The temporary purple window coverings warm the street while owner, Jonathan Babicka, adds the final touches inside. Primp Salon’s deep purple walls, antique tin ceiling, stunning chandeliers, and golden mirrors create a sense of elegance and comfort contrary to the common hair salon décor.
Within the boutique salon, guests will receive personal attention in one of the four lavish stations. Primp Salon is a full service hair salon for men and women that offers precision cuts, one process color or retouch, high-lighting/ low-lighting, Brazilian relaxing/ straightening, conditioning treatments, blow outs, and styling. Pricing at Primp Salon is set to be affordable so that guests can enjoy the experience that they deserve even in today’s economy. Another added value of this South Beach hair salon is the complimentary valet.
In addition to the décor, Primp Salon differs from the average salon by offering same day hair extensions. The 100% real human hair extensions are readily available for the reason that Jonathan Babicka has been distributing these products and other salon exclusive products to leading South Florida salons for the past five years. The Primp Salon will also act as an educational facility once a week to train local stylists on these products, hair extension application, and current trends.
Primp Salon & Hair Extension Boutique is located at 407 15th St. Miami Beach, Fl 33139 and will be open Monday 3 p.m. to 8p.m.; Tuesday – Sunday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Primp Salon stylists are also available for in-room hotel services and special event bookings. To book an appointment in advance or in-room hotel service please call 786.999.4151. For more information please visit www.primpsobe.com.
