Annette Recommends Happy Hour at Transit Lounge UPDATE: CLOSED

UPDATE: THIS BUSINESS IS CLOSED

Transit Lounge
729 Southwest 1st Avenue
Miami, FL 33130

We wanted to find someplace with for happy hour but it was a little after 7pm and most happy hours end at 7pm.  So, after calling several places found out that Transit Lounge happy hour goes until 8pm, so we headed there.

All drinks and food are 1/2 price (except for a couple of alcohols, like Johnny Walker Green and a couple more) and they were doing a Rock Band Competition karaoke.

We ordered our first round,  Apple Martini, a Dirty Martini, I had Tequila and OJ (my favorite) and an order of cheese fries.  The cheese fries where so good, the cheese was a little spicy and so tasty.  Their drink prices were already good, but with the 1/2 off, the prices are a steal. Just to give you an idea, the apple martini was only $3.75.

The Rock Band competition was so much fun, I had never played rock band before and I had a blast, I played the drums.  I will definitely be going back for more happy hours at Transit Lounge….need to get a big group together, to go drink, eat and play Rock Band, it would be GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This time the focus is on South Florida’s “Community In Need” and Camillus House.
The show will be an acoustic-themed performance featuring various special musical guests and an appearance by folk diva, Omine Keager.
The event takes place on the second floor at 626 South Miami Avenue in Miami, doors open at 8:30 PM.
All-you-can-eat BBQ rib dinners will be served for just $10.99.

Last December, at 11.8 percent, the Florida unemployment rate was the highest it had ever been since 1975: up 0.3 percent from November and a whopping 4.2 percent from December 2008. The Examiner referred to Miami-Dade as “one of the places most affected by the nation’s economic downturn.” Serving the South Florida community since 1960, Camillus House is a non-profit organization that provides humanitarian services to men, women and children who are poor and homeless. Camillus offers a full continuum of services that includes food, shelter, housing, rehabilitative treatment, and health care. Each service is carried out with the deeply held belief that every human being deserves love, respect and an opportunity to live a dignified life.

Active in Miami’s live music scene since 1997 they have performed in New York City and all over South Florida. They were the only band to-date to win nine Status QuO South Florida Live Music Awards with nominations in ten categories. In 2009 South Florida’s Sun Sentinnel called them “a band of nomads who keep moving to different musical genres” and The Miami Herald said “CHG’s sound is reminiscent of The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac and The Mamas and the Papas,” referring to them as “a quintessential jam band.” Miami New Times said “Fans of Fleetwood Mac, the Mamas and the Papas, and 97.3 FM should dig this group without question. Their harmonies, both vocal and instrumental, are soothing and give a generally upbeat feel”

Band music, free downloads, and online videos are available at: www.CoffeeHouseGypsies.com

Camillus House is the largest and most comprehensive provider of humanitarian services to persons who are poor and homeless in South Florida. Established in 1960 to meet the needs of Cuban exiles, Camillus has grown from a small soup kitchen into a full service agency offering comprehensive services countywide. Today, Camillus serves more than 12,000 persons each year at 16 locations throughout the County, and each night, more than 1,100 persons rest safely under a Camillus roof. The services offered by Camillus House and sister agency, Camillus Health Concern, include housing, primary health care, behavioral health treatment, employment services, and basic emergency services such as food, clothing, shelter and companionship. Camillus’s mission is to serve the hardest-to reach and poorest members of the community by giving them the hope and support they need to begin the long and often difficult transition to a new life and ultimate self-sufficiency.

Last year Camillus provided: 600,000 free meals. 4,700 patients quality health care through Camillus Health Concern. 110 persons substance abuse & mental health treatment (8 of every 10 successfully graduated). 280 persons successfully placed in gainful employment. A new Courtyard program which provided 740 street homeless men and women food, clothing, medical care, security services as well as pathways into housing, treatment and job placement to break the cycle.
For more information about Camillus visit: www.Camillus.org or email: SamGil@Camillus.org

Tobacco Road is Miami’s oldest bar. It has survived hurricanes and prohibition and seen eras of presidents dating back to William Howard Taft. Throughout its 96+ year history, artists like George Clinton and Koko Taylor have made appearances at the local venue, turning it into ‘the place where local legend and history meet live music’. Most recently Miami’s Cuban singer and icon, Gloria Estefan, was seen celebrating her birthday at The Road. And the upstairs Cabaret (where the concert will take place) is rumored to have once been the favorite hangout of gangster Al Capone and his associates.

For more information about Tobacco Road please visit www.Tobacco-Road.com or call 305-374-1198.

Check donations for Camillus will be accepted at the CHG concert and should be made payable to CAMILLUS. Local companies wanting to make a corporate donation to Camillus can get show tickets for donating. For more information about donations for tickets please contact TIX@CoffeeHouseGypsies.com.

Join us for cocktails as Ron Barcelo invites you to take part in the Miami Rum Renaissance 5/5/10

BARCELÓ RUM TO HOST MIAMI RUM RENAISSANCE SANCTIONED VIP EVENT AT RIVER LOUNGE

Ron Barceló over the past year has taken aggressive steps to expose their brand to North America. Armed with new bottle designs, tag line, and strategy they have made waves specifically in New York and South Florida. Next week is just the latest step in their ascendance in the world of spirits as they are a major player in this year’s prestigious Miami Rum Renaissance Festival. Barceló was chosen to host one of officially sanctioned Rum Renaissance VIP events this Wed. May 5th 2010 at River Lounge located inside the Epic Hotel.

The Rum Renaissance Festival which is considered one of the premier international Rum events will take place from May 5-9 2010. The Festival boasts a series of Rum competitions, seminars, grand tasting event, and VIP events. This year’s festival which is put together by rum aficionado Robert Burr is certain to be the biggest ever as over 100 spirit writers and bloggers are flying in for the festivities.

The Ron Barceló VIP event will dazzle guests as they chose a venue that fits perfectly with the Caribbean essence that is rum. Overlooking the soothing waters of the Miami River, River Lounge is the perfect destination for Miami’s trend setters. Upon entering the River Lounge guests will be greeted by gorgeous models in flamboyant tropical attire. Guests will have the opportunity to sip on complimentary cocktails provided by Barceló while enjoying the sights and sounds that make River Lounge one of the premier venues in Miami. To top off this fabulous event one can stroll out to the terrace which overlooks the waters ways and enjoy their rum cocktail with a perfectly paired cigar compliments of Miami Cigars. The Ron Barceló VIP event is just another step towards showing the world what quality rum is all about.
Ron Barceló made huge ways when they created Ron Barceló Imperial. Ron Barceló Imperial’s coup d’état on the rum world is well known as it attained the title of “World’s Best Rum” after attaining a staggering 97 points out of 100, this being one of the highest scores in the history of the prestigious Beverage Testing Institute of Chicago. Such quality isn’t easily attained. Barceló Imperial is processed in one of the most modern distilling plants in the region. Perfection comes from using molasses from the finest sugarcane in the Caribbean and naturally aging for ten years in Kentucky oak barrels once used to age bourbon. The rest of the recipe is a long held secret by the Barceló family which adds to the mythical story of this superior rum. How it is made is one thing but the real pleasure starts when one sits back and sips on this world class spirit which is truly fit for the rum connoisseur.
When asked about the direction of Barceló in the near future, Alex Mejido, vice president of Blend Wine & Spirits stated: “We are so excited about all the great new initiatives we will be implementing in the further to grow the awareness and loyalty to Ron Barceló. With changes in the times, consumers and marketplace, come changes in the way that we do things to promote our brand. With that said I wish to invite all rum lovers to our event and to experience the Rum Renaissance.”

Wednesday March 24th. 2010

$10 per person
(4 Wines & Hors d’oeuvres Included)
Prosecco
The best bubbly in the Zonin portfolio. The nose is yeasty, with moderate richness and enough apple and citrus to register. The palate features green melon, apple and toast, while the finish is mildly yeasty and fairly full. Satisfying as it fills the mouth.” -M.S.
The must, obtained by very soft pressing, undergoes an initial fermentation at a controlled temperature of 18°C (64°F). The base wine is then transferred into pressurized stainless steel tanks where the wine is made sparkling using the traditional Charmat method. An excellent aperitif, it can also be served throughout the meal – including dessert – as long as the dishes are not too strongly flavored

Insolia, Principi Di Butera, Sicilia
Produced from Insolia grapes harvested in the first week of September and placed in small baskets. After soft pressing, the must was immediately fermented in stainless steel at a controlled temperature and kept on the lees until April 2002. Afterward the wine was fined in the bottle for some months. Bright and luminous golden straw yellow with light greenish reflections. Full, with scents of exotic fruit and flowering broom. Rich and harmonious with delicate scents of sweet almonds.

Refosco, Cervignano Del Friuli
After crushing and de-stalking, the must is macerated for 8-12 days in vertical vinification tanks, a process which encourages considerable extraction of color and polyphenolic substances. After its malolactic fermentation, the wine matures for 6 months in Slovenian oak barrels

Ripasso Valpolicella Superiore, Veneto
Ripasso is a traditional technique that promotes a second fermentation through the wine’s contact with warm dried grape skins from which Amarone has been pressed. This practice increases slightly the alcoholic content and enriches the wine with a greater concentration of sugar, glycerine, polyphenolic substances and aromas. The wine then matures in 30-hectoliter (660 gallon) Slovenian oak barrels for 1 year and for a further six months in bottle.

The Coffee House Gypsies Pre-AIDS Walk Miami Concert at Tobacco Road 4/14/10

Pre-AIDS Walk Miami Concert; Rocking for AIDS Awareness, Prevention, Testing, and Treatment

On Wednesday, April 14, 2010 @ 9:00 PM the legendary TOBACCO ROAD will join forces once again with South Florida’s pop-rock band THE COFFEE HOUSE GYPSIES in collaboration with CARE RESOURCE for a concert event to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS. Taking place just three days before the 22nd AIDS Walk Miami, the concert will kick off the 2010 AIDS Walk Week. The event will feature live art with silent auction. All proceeds from artwork auctioned at the show will go to Care Resource. Admission for this show will be $10 at the door or $7 for advanced tickets and a portion of all door and ticket sales will go to Care Resource. You must be 21 or older to attend. Tobacco Road is located at 626 South Miami Avenue, 33130.

The changing face of AIDS in this nation reflects a devastating number of people in South Florida. Fort Lauderdale ranks third and Miami ranks fourth in AIDS rates among metropolitan areas in the nation. As of 2008, more than 50,000 people were living with HIV/AIDS throughout Miami-Dade and Broward Counties combined. A high percentage of HIV positive residents in South Florida are not in care and hundreds more do not even know their HIV status. The state of the epidemic continues to grow and change; therefore, the support of the community for HIV education, prevention, research and treatment is crucial.

In an effort to increase awareness, participation, and support for HIV prevention, care, and treatment, The Coffee House Gypsies band will hold a concert at Tobacco Road for the general public and Care Resource of Miami. The event will feature live art and cameo appearances by other local bands such as: phoenix/NEBULIN, For The Record, Pretty On Paper, Tony Cruz of The Bailouts and Zaida from Ego Band.

The 22nd Annual AIDS Walk Miami TM fundraiser is scheduled for Saturday, April 17th, 2010. Sign up for the Walk today and help fight HIV/AIDS in your community. The International One-day fundraiser Dining Out For Life is also back for a 5th exciting year on Thursday, April 29, 2010. Dine Out and Help to Save Lives.

ABOUT THE COFFEE HOUSE GYPSIES
They have been active in Miami’s music scene since 1997 and they have performed in New York City and all over South Florida. They were the only band to-date to win nine Status QuO South Florida Live Music Awards with nominations in ten categories. In 2009 South Florida’s Sun Sentinnel called the Miami band “a band of nomads who keep moving to different musical genres.” The Miami Herald said, “CHG’s sound is reminiscent of The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac and The Mamas and the Papas,” referring to them as “a quintessential jam band.” Miami New Times said “Fans of Fleetwood Mac, the Mamas and the Papas, and 97.3 FM should dig this group without question. Their harmonies, both vocal and instrumental, are soothing and give a generally upbeat feel”

DVD Details
21 minutes / 21 days to a long, lean, athletic body is the promise of MM Branding’s premier in-home fitness release of The Montenegro Method (MM) DVD Series. The series includes three DVDs packed with high-intensity workouts that fuse fitness, sports and science and guarantees the most efficient workout to deliver maximum results, South Beach-style.

Miami-based exercise physiologist and fitness expert Marta Montenegro, who has owned and operated her own gym and spent many years working with and studying the methods of professional athletes, developed the Montenegro Method to get the body performing at its peak athletic potential. The Montenegro Method combines plyometrics and resistance exercises guaranteed to deliver the most efficient workout by building lean muscle and transforming the metabolism to burn more calories, even while at rest.

“I believe everyone can find their victory, maximize their personal achievements, transform their bodies and change their lives,” says Marta, who found her victory through training and helping others. “After suffering the loss of my father, whose last words were ‘find your victory,’ I’ve devoted my entire life to fitness and health.”

Marta, who is also the Founder, Publisher and Editor-In-Chief of the award-winning SOBeFiT Magazine, has always been inspired by athletes. While developing The MM DVD Series, she explored the highly efficient way athletes train to get their long, lean and athletic bodies. The MM DVD Series includes: (DVD 1) Endurance BURN FAT: three 21-minute high-calorie burning cardio / circuit training workouts; (DVD 2) Strength GET TONED: three 21-minute giant muscle-building workouts that reshape the core / upper body / legs; and (DVD 3) Power ACCELERATE METABOLISM: four 10-minute express workouts that increase endurance and build strength, agility and power, setting your body up to burn calories even while at rest. Exclusive bonus material includes healthy lifestyle tips from leading experts in the sports and fashion industries.

Paying homage to Marta’s athletic inspirations, The MM DVD Series also features candid interviews and mini-workouts with three of Spain’s finest professional tennis players: Fernando Verdasco, the second highest ranked Spanish tennis player who is consistently among the top 15 players in the world, demonstrates an upper body workout with Marta; Feliciano Lopez, two-time Davis Cup winner, engages in core exercises alongside Marta; and Carlos Moya, former world No. 1 and one of only four active tennis players to have won more than 500 ATP matches, performs lower-body exercises with Marta.

By fusing pro-sports techniques into each routine, Marta trains you like a pro-athlete. “I designed the series with the principles of overload and progression in mind — viewers can mix and match their workouts to avoid comfort zones in order to continue challenging themselves for long-term results,” continues Marta. “My program allows anyone to see results, regardless of their fitness level. Beginner, intermediate or advanced, viewers will lose weight, gain muscle tone and strength, and have more energy.”

The power of Marta’s passion, knowledge, credentials and experience inspires viewers to perform and push harder to reach their own personal victories. The Montenegro Method DVD Series offers both Spanish and English options and retails at $39.98. For more information, visit www.montenegromethod.com

Movies In The Spa At Icon Brickell March Schedule

Tuesdays 7:00pm
Saturdays 7:30pm

MARCH 2 – WOMEN ON THE VERGE OF A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN “After being dumped by her lover, Ivan (Fernando Guillen), Pepa (Carmen Maura) finds her life and the lives of those around her spiraling out of control in this madcap farce from acclaimed Spanish director Pedro Almodovar. As Pepa tries to contact Ivan, her friend Candela (Maria Barranco) reveals her involvement with a terrorist, Ivan’s wife visits with loaded guns, and Ivan is about to board a plane that Candela’s boyfriend plans to hijack.”

MARCH 6 – CABARET “A British scribe (Michael York) and his comrades — including a flamboyant American nightclub entertainer named Sally Bowles (Liza Minelli) — chronicle the debauchery and turbulence of prewar Berlin in director Bob Fosse’s big-screen adaptation of a musical classic. Existing in a morally ambiguous void, the characters doggedly maintain their facades as the world outside the cabaret gears for war.”

MARCH 9 – KIKA “Kika, a young cosmetologist, is called to the mansion of Nicolas, an American writer to make-up the corpse of his stepson, Ramon. Ramon, who is not dead, is revived by Kika’s attentions and she then moves in with him. They might live happily ever after but first they have to cope with Kika’s affair with Nicolas, the suspicious death of Ramon’s mother and the intrusive gaze of tabloid-TV star and Ramon’s ex-psychologist Andrea Scarface.”

MARCH 13 – CHICAGO “Roxie Hart (Renee Zellweger) hungers for stardom but ends up in the slammer, where superstar Velma Kelly (Catherine Zeta-Jones) is doing time for shooting her cheating husband, in this Best Picture winner based on the hit Broadway musical of the same name. When Velma’s lawyer, notorious Billy Flynn (RIchard Gere), makes Roxie a tabloid sensation, he sets up a singing, dancing catfight between the all-too- willing rivals.”

MARCH 16 – BAD EDUCATION “When film director Enrique (Fele Martinez) is visited by his childhood friend and lover, Ignacio (Gael Garcia Bernal), Ignacio gives Enrique a short story he’s written that’s a factual account of the molestation he sustained at the hands of their Catholic school teacher, Father Manolo (Daniel Gimenez). But as Enrique adapts the story into a movie, he uncovers a dangerous web of deceit and revenge.”

MARCH 20 – MOULIN ROUGE “A naïve young poet (Ewan McGregor) falls in love with a cabaret star (Nicole Kidman), and their ill-fated romance serves as a convenient peg on which to hang a dazzling array of songs, from snatches of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “The Sound of Music” to Madonna’s “Like a Virgin.” But the real star is director Baz Luhrmann, who came up with this infectious concoction that won two Oscars for art direction and costume design as well as six other nods.”

MARCH 23 – TACONES LEJANOS “The plot follows the fractured relationship between a self-involved mother who is a famous torch song singer and the grown daughter she had abandoned as a child. The daughter, who works as TV newscaster, has married her mother’s ex-lover and has befriended a female impersonator of her mother. A murder further complicates this web of relationships.”

MARCH 27 – PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT “Invited to perform at a casino in remote Alice Springs, Australia, drag queens Mitzi (Hugo Weaving) and Felicia (Guy Pearce) and transsexual Bernadette (Terence Stamp) hit the road in a broken- down lavender bus named Priscilla in this campy comedy classic. Along the way, the friends change into their most outrageous costumes and lip-synch disco tunes — including plenty of ABBA — for the outback’s befuddled locals.”

MARCH 30 – THE FLOWER OF MY SECRET “Popular romance novelist Leo (Marisa Paredes) takes a job at a newspaper under a pseudonym in this bittersweet film. Fed up with writing meaningless books and on the verge of splitting with her husband (Imanol Arias), Leo banishes her overwhelming depression by pretending to be Amanda Gris. She’s hired by newspaperman Angel (Juan Echanove), who’s unaware of her true identity and assigns her to review her own romance novel.”

A Gift from the HeART George Rodez Uses his ART to Aid Haiti’s Victims 1/27/10

International Miami artist George Rodez has scheduled four fundraising events at The Capital Grille restaurants in south Florida to aid the victims of Haiti’s earthquake.

International artist George Rodez and Rodezart.com are offering a unique opportunity to help raise funds to benefit the victims of Haiti’s devastating earthquake with all proceeds benefiting the American Red Cross International Disaster Response Fund. Mr. Rodez will be hosting four fundraising events at The Capital Grille restaurants across South Florida. At each event, in Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Boca Raton and Palm Beach Gardens, guests will have the opportunity to purchase an 11″ x 11″ piece Rodez has chosen for this cause, appropriately called “The Gift of Love.” In addition, guests will also be able to bid on a larger version of this piece. The dates when Mr. Rodez’s artwork will be available at The Capital Grille locations are as follows:

•Wednesday, January 27 from 5 to 7 pm in Miami, 444 Brickell Avenue.
•Thursday, January 28 from 5 to 7 pm in Ft. Lauderdale’s, 2430 East Sunrise Blvd.
•Monday, February 1 from 5 to 7 pm in Boca Raton, 6000 Glades Road
•Tuesday, February 2 from 5 to 7 pm in Palm Beach Gardens, 11365 Legacy Avenue.

Rodez has created a special “open edition” for this fund raising effort. According to him, the 11″ x 11″ size was chosen to honor a member of The Capital Grille staff who lost 11 family members in the quake. “I can’t imagine losing one family member, let alone 11. I was heartbroken.”

As he did after Haiti’s devastating storms in 2008 and before that after Katrina, George has not batted an eye in donating proceeds from the sale of his artwork to different charities many times over. In fact in 2006, he was honored by Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, stating, “Your involvement in fund raising for charitable organizations through your generous art contributions is truly commendable.” As for the people of Haiti he states, “The people of Haiti have been suffering long before these devastating occurrences. To sit here with our arms crossed while we see Haiti crumbling before our eyes is inhumane. We have to help these people. It’s no wonder they attempt to flee their own country looking for a better way of life. Maybe, just maybe, we can all come together to help make a difference and help these people achieve their goal right in their own homeland.”

12th Annual Medical Marijuana Benefit Concert at Tobacco Road 1/16/10

12TH ANNUAL MEDICAL MARIJUANA BENEFIT CONCERT AT TOBACCO ROAD
HOSTED BY PLOPPY PALACE PRODUCTIONS

On Saturday, January 16, 2010 Ploppy Palace Productions and Tobacco Road will be hosting the 12th Annual Medical Marijuana Benefit Concert to raise funds for PUFMM’s (Patients United For Medical Marijuana), South Florida NORML’s (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws) and Patients Out Of Time’s medical marijuana campaign and the protection of patients’ rights. Currently there is a statewide petition drive to get the medical marijuana issue on the ballot to change the laws in Florida. As part of this three stage extravaganza, some of South Florida’s top bands, spoken word artists and community activists will join together for patients’ and physicians’ right to use medical cannabis.

As a testament to the diversity of supporters for this cause, there will be a broad variety of musical styles including jazz, rock, reggae, folk, vocal harmonies, hip-hop, funk, experimental, tribal rhythms, traditional Peruvian, flamenco, world beat fusion, psychedelic grooves and various interactive jams.

Johnny Dread, Sweetbone, Kuyayky, Ethreal, UOM, Hoosha, Shawn Snyder, Franklin’s Wheel, Carl Ferrari & Friends, Bodhi, Togen, Bitchfire, The Int’l Language, The Tribe, Deep Water Willy, Val C Wisecracker, Steve Minotti, Andrew Bayuk, Mandy Burgan, J.D. Danner, Brother Lou, Orrin Bolton, Frank Nitts, Chopp Devize and more will be showcasing original music.

Alonso, Angelo Pizarro, Jonathan Rose and other spoken word artists will be presenting innovative spoken word poetry with musical accompaniment. Mark A.S. will be presenting social satire about the laws concerning medical marijuana and the drug war. In addition, Stacy Oh, Zuzka and other dancers will be performing a variety of dance and movement pieces to energetic, rhythmic percussion and ambient tones.

Flowing Art Movement will be using light, ribbons and fabric to enhance their dance presentations with live music accompaniment. Plus Anibal Fernandez, Linx and other creative artists will be rendering a live painting demonstration to visually complement the music. Irvin Rosenfeld and Elvy Musikka, legal medical marijuana patients and Directors for Patients Out Of Time, will be describing their experiences with obtaining medical marijuana through the federal government.

The 12th Annual Medical Marijuana Benefit Concert will also feature a selection of community speakers who will present information about the issues including Norm Kent – National NORML Board of Directors, Sara Yousuf – criminal defense attorney, Jeanne Baker – Florida State Board President of the American Civil Liberties Union, Jayne King from the Florida Green Party, Toni Latino, attorney from Borras & Latino, Michael Minardi P.A., Shawn Heller from the Florida Justice Institute, Ford Banister from Florida’s Committee for Sensible Marijuana Policy, Robert Platshorn, author and convicted smuggler from the Black Tuna Gang, representatives of PUFMM, South Florida NORML and other concerned citizens.

South Florida NORML, PUFMM, Patients Out Of Time, ACLU of Florida, Florida Green Party and various other organizations will have informational booths with literature and handouts to help educate about community issues and the medical marijuana campaign in Florida.

The event will work to raise funds and awareness for PUFMM, South Florida NORML and Patients Out Of Time’s medical marijuana campaign and the protection of patients’ rights. Previously, a person’s right to use medical necessity as a defense to marijuana charges has been upheld by several appeals courts in Florida. Marijuana has proven therapeutically useful in treating numerous medical conditions including muscle spasticity, arthritis, and the nausea related to AIDS and cancer chemotherapy. About 700,000 Florida registered voters need to sign the petition in order for the issue to get on the ballot. Currently there are 14 states that have laws allowing marijuana to be used as medicine.

In addition there will be vendors and small businesses promoting and selling their merchandise, including The Wallflower Gallery, Xango, Ragamufyn, 75rabbit, Between Spirit & Stone Jewelry, Progressive Rags, Emerald City Imports, Crystal Fun Design, Sergio Torres, Alan Glover, Bambooey Didgeridoos, Kokanut Kingz, Roostas No. 5 and selected independent corporations.

Production support provided by Ploppy Palace Productions, Atlas Sound Productions, Anamaze Productions, Turk Masters Cymbals and 7th Circuit Productions. The 12th Annual Medical Marijuana Benefit Concert at Tobacco Road is currently looking for supportive sponsors and unique vendors to help to build up the community outreach and contribute to the cause.

The 12th Annual Medical Marijuana Benefit Concert at Tobacco Road is sponsored by Ploppy Palace Productions, OnlineGigs.com, Antidote Productions, Artists For Community Evolution, The Wallflower Gallery, Music Art Love, Borras & Latino, Printed Things & Custom Collectibles and South Florida NORML.

Kids for Kids An extraordinary fundraising event for the whole family 12/12/09

sze-brkll-SofM-evite
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 12th, 3PM
As the Holiday season approaches, we are reminded of our many blessings as well as the challenges faced by other families. This time of year is also symbolic of hope and it is in this spirit that we have joined forces this year with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital with the support of Romero Britto and Saks Fifth Avenue and many others to host “Kids for Kids- A Season of Miracles”, a fundraiser event benefiting St. Jude.
With the goal of instilling benevolent values and inspiring the next generation to give, the “Kids for Kids” is also an opportunity for our children to bring a gift for the children of St. Jude. To ensure that gifts are appropriate for the special needs of many of these children, please be sure to adhere to the gift guidelines below. Although the primary goal is to raise money for the hospital, we ask that you encourage your children to bring a gift to donate. It is a small price for an invaluable and rewarding life lesson.
This is a family event and activities for the little ones will include photos with Santa Claus, face painting, complimentary cotton candy and popcorn, entertainers, toys, games for children, live band playing Christmas music, and will end with the official lighting of the Segafredo Christmas tree.
This is an extraordinary fundraising effort to raise money for St. Jude. St. Jude will hold an onsite SILENT AUCTION featuring products from a variety of sponsors including:Saks Fifth Avenue, Genius Jones, Milan Kitchens, Venue Magazine, Segafredo Brickell and many more. In addition to this, St. Jude will set up a registration table where they will be accepting donations by checks and cash with 100% of the proceeds going directly to St. Jude Research Hospital

The event will take place on Saturday, December 12th starting at 3 PM at Segafredo Brickell, 1421 S. Miami Avenue in Brickell.

About St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital:
The mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of its founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family’s ability to pay.

Miami Independent Thinkers Fundraising Extravaganza Part II Fashion Film and Music 11/20/09

3GZ Productions, in association with Club 50, Mitrani Warehouse, AV8 Productions, The Agency Collective, Biscayne Writers and Intuition Marketing (IM Events) presents Miami’s Independent Thinkers | Miami’s It, a multimedia art festival dedicated to South Florida’s premier and emerging artists. The mission of the event is to raise awareness about talented South Florida artists through an exclusive showcase of their work amidst the many satellite fairs connected with Art Basel Miami Beach.

As a nonprofit venture in support of local art, community support is crucial. A final fundraiser is being held at Club 50 at The Viceroy (485 Brickell Avenue) on Friday November 20th, from 10pm – 2am. Fashion, Film & Music will be an explosive evening of talent and taste, and all proceeds collected at the event will go directly to staging the art fair. A minimum $15 donation is required at the door but patrons are encouraged to give generously in support of this community initiative. The fundraiser will be a night to mingle with Miami’s cultural mavens and enjoy a live fashion showcase, meet artists and experience the talents of top local DJs, designers and filmmakers.

ABOUT MIAMI’S IT
“Art Basel is very much an international event, and while our city is the stage our stars can get lost in the mix,” says Franceasca Seiden, a Miami native and the founder of Miami’s It. “My goal was to bring together a network of local cultural professionals to launch a new showcase of South Florida’s incredible talent – especially independent artists working outside of the gallery system.”

South Florida is known globally as a community of divergent cultures and as a crossroads for creative professionals. In addition to including well-known local talent, this project will open the door to a number of artists and creative individuals in South Florida who are currently underserved by the gallery system and market resources, giving them a chance for exposure during Basel week.

The show aims to feature artists working across a range of media – work on the walls and in public spaces, painting, photography, film, writing, sculpture, mixed/multimedia, installations, performance, graphic design, street art/graffiti, and much more. Miami’s Independent Thinkers will run from December 3 – 6, 2009 at Mitrani Warehouse (222 NW 27th St, Miami, FL 33127) during Art Basel Miami Beach and will include opening night entertainment, live music, DJs, performance art and much more.

If you are interested in sponsoring the event please contact Franceasca Seiden at franceasca@miamithinkers.com. Please also visit our website www.MiamiThinkers.com for more information on our mission and how to submit your work to the show.

Social Media for Social Change (SM4SC) Hosts Event to Support South Florida’s Homeless 11/19/09

sm4scmia1
Harnessing the Power of Web 2.0 Networking, ‘Social Media for Social Change’ (SM4SC) Hosts Event to Support South Florida’s Homeless

Social Media for Social Change Miami, the South Florida branch of SM4SC, an online grassroots movement started by Boston social media professional Gradon Tripp to rally social media users and leaders to support non- profit organizations and cause-based campaigns, will host its first fundraiser on November 19 at 8:00 PM at Club 50 at the Viceroy.

All proceeds will go to Camillus House, a non-profit organization that provides food, shelter, housing, rehabilitative treatment, and health care to men, women and children who are struggling with poverty in South Florida. Corporate sponsors participating in the fundraiser include LockerBlogger, Fusebox, Empressr, InfiniMedia, Salt River Studio, ADSUCH, and Club 50.

SM4SC has garnered support from thousands of Web 2.0-savvy individuals and corporations across the United States to raise funds for various charities. SM4SC differs from other fundraising and campaign organizations because they opt to use blogs, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and other web-based tools to disseminate information and generate support, rather than more traditional means.
“SM4SC is powered by the influence that individual people have within their own online communities to spread positive messages and facilitate change,” said Gradon Tripp, founder of SM4SC and DesignBoston.org. “We’re utilizing the communal and viral aspects of the Internet, which can turn a simple YouTube video or blog post into something that touches millions, to help fix real- world problems.”
