Central Beer Garden and Sushi Central Lounge

Both venues open to public on Cinco de Mayo with ribbon cutting ceremony and huge bash.
Central Beer Garden and Sushi Central Lounge are set to open to the public this week May 4, 2011. “Miami’s premiere venue and event space” and its fabulous sister Central Sushi Lounge are two new unique venues that will become the trendy “it” spots in Coconut Grove.

Opening the first week of May 2011 Central Beer Garden in Cocowalk, has 60 plus international beers on tap and great food menu. Patrons can come and gather for beer, hearty foods, live entertainment featuring some of the most popular bands from Miami’s music scene and private “unplugged” type concerts. Bands that will play will include such South Florida faves as “Suenalo” and ‘Spam Allstars” to name a couple. Both of these popular bands will play in May at the venue.

Central Beer Garden will come out of the gate with a five hundred person networking event with a special guest as speaker as well as a private concert with a very beloved Miami artist that has made waves “worldwide.” Not bad for a spot opening in what is still referred to by many as a Village of Coconut Grove. Guests can enjoy a 20,000 sq ft space with indoor and outdoor seating, flat-screens all over the space, warm color palette and a huge bar setup.

The venue will also be set up to host social, private, corporate and media driven large or small scale events. Central Beer Garden was created for a casual, bohemian experience while Sushi Central Lounge will be a dynamic sophisticated lounge for those wanting a palate-pleasing experience or some delicious signature cocktails without having to go very far. Fit for “date” nights, happy hour or a private celebration, Sushi Central Lounge will soon be the hip spot for scenesters, influencers, and those just wanting to enjoy good sushi.

Sushi Central Lounge is designed to be a chic ultra trendy lounge that is fit for Miami’s world renowned nightlife scene. Located just one flight of stairs below the Central Beer Garden, Sushi Central Lounge was conceptualized to stimulate the senses as the sights, sounds and tastes make for an ambiance like no other in the Grove and cater to the individual wanting to dance, and listen to the chicest and most popular lounge and dance music. Featured will be a sushi menu with Latin infused flavors and themes designed by a celebrity sushi Chefwho is responsible for some of New York’s finest sushi bars the restaurant/lounge. The lounge will also feature a tequila bar boasting exotic and unique tequila cocktails. The experience is topped off with hip and popular music that will pump through the sound system and dance floor to round out the Sushi Central Lounge experience. Both venues were built out in a manner which would facilitate the planning of private parties, family celebrations, and corporate soirees.

Both spots will open with a fabulous by-invitation grand opening complete with a formal ribbon cutting attended by VIPS, city officials and local celebs. The soirees will be Thursday May 4, 2011 from 6:30-9:30PM. Guests can expect receptions fit for celebrities since, they are including products endorsed by some: complimentary Voli Vodka cocktails (front man is artist Pitbull), Tres Rios Tequila (owner is Motley Crew’s Vince Neil) Dos XX beer and Brugal Rum. The two-day fete will be complete with music by DJ X on May 4, and DJ Rob Dinero on May 5, 2011 during the open-to the public huge Cinco de Mayo fest that Central Beer Garden will host during Cocowalk’s annual Cinco de Mayo event.

Central Beer Garden and Sushi Central Lounge are ready to take Coconut Grove to another level in diversion and nightlife. With the recent resurgence seen within the Village of Coconut Grove this dynamic duo couldn’t be opening at a better time. More to come…

Central Beer Garden and Sushi Central Lounge are located at: 3015 Grand Avenue, Coconut Grove, on the 4th floor of Cocowalk. Find them both on Face book.

Rum Renaissance Festival’s celebrated VIP Parties in Tobacco Road and Bacardi USA Headquarters By Betty Alvarez

The Rum Renaissance Festival presented a series of exclusive VIP parties where guests previewed some samplings before the actual Grand Tasting Event. At Tobacco Road, a Zafra VIP party went underway where guests sampled Zafra-inspired cocktails and sample some varieties of chicken wings hosted by the 100 year old establishment. Attendees also had the chance to play their luck on a simple game of Dominoes while mingling with friends and liquor sponsors.

After a good time at Tobacco Road, guests had another VIP party to go. This time was at the Bacardi USA headquarters in Coral Gables. Guest sampled delicious Cuban tastings as well as Bacardi inspired drinks made by the great Bacardi bartenders. The enthusiasm by these bartenders in creating the drinks made tasting them worthwhile. Invited guests and sponsored enjoyed the rest of the night as the non stop food was served and the drinks where flowing. These were some good VIP parties!

Guests can expect an evening filled with VIPs, celebrities, cocktails, and music as Kyma Lounge plans to take the Miami nightlife scene by storm.

Kyma Lounge is ready to unveil itself with their much awaited grand opening April 29,, 2011. The grand opening represents a breath of fresh air for local Miami professionals as Kyma Lounge is ramping up to be Downtown’s go to spot for the movers and shakers that shape the Magic City. Kyma will represent Miami’s dynamic cultural make up as it borrows hints of Spanish and Italian bar/lounge concepts to make this a truly unique concept in South Florida. The new spot will open this month.

Located in the Epic Hotel and Residences in Downtown, Kyma Lounge represents what the outgoing professional deserves and expects in South Florida. Kyma Lounge is geared to be the “it spot” in Miami Downtown nightlife as it sits ideally situated on the Miami River with a breathtaking view. The structure originally designed by nationally renowned Telesco & Associates, the chic lounge boasts 30ft ceilings, LED lighting, circular bar, flat screen TVs, custom lighting fixtures and custom lounge furniture. The second floor which features its own bar boasts a more intimate setting. One of the elements that set Kyma Lounge apart is that guests can arrive either by car or boat which makes Kyma an ideal pit stop for cocktails if boating in the downtown area. The outdoor terrace/dock is the perfect spot to enjoy cocktails and bites while appreciating Miami’s most impressive high-rises that flank the Miami River. Aside from offering a great happy hour and after hours get away Kyma will offer menu items to sooth the appetites of Miami’s most demanding foodies.

Kyma Lounge’s menu options are based around the Spanish Pintxos and Tapas concept. Not to be confused with the Latin American “pinchos,” the Spanish Pintxos are typical in the Basque region of Spain and are usually eaten in bars or taverns as a small snack while socializing; thus, they have a strong socializing component, and they are usually regarded as a cornerstone of Basque Culture and Society. Pintxo are related to Tapas but are usually larger and have a spike “Pintxo” driven through them. This concept fits in perfectly for the professional who is looking to close a business deal over drinks while pleasing his/her palate in a casual yet refined setting. Kyma Lounge will also be open in the mornings to cater to those who would like to overlook the soothing water ways while sipping on an espresso and nibbling on a pastry or croissant to start the work day. As the Sun goes down Miami’s night life takes off and Kyma Lounge will be in lock step with Miami’s ever changing dynamic nightlife scene.

Kyma Lounge plans to offer night life programing to rival and go above and beyond anything in the downtown area. Located inside the high end Epic Hotel and residences and sharing the building with other award winning entities Kyma Lounge is looking to cater to an upscale and sophisticated clientele who is looking for exclusivity when enjoying the infamous Miami nightlife. Kyma Lounge will offer a unique cocktail list including a one-of-a kind signature martini list. Delicious bites, great music, surrounded by beauty, Kyma Lounge is ready to set a new standard in Miami. Conveniently located on the mainland, this visually-captivating space will cater to the active professional, corporate and social scene.

After Friday’s Polo tournament, La Martina Fashion Show paraded for the delight of Fans By Betty Alvarez

Kris Kampsen lit up the scoreboard on Friday afternoon during the opening day of the men’s tournament at the AMG Miami Beach Polo World Cup on the sands of South Beach, as the defending 2010 championship team, Hublot, handed John Walsh and his AMG-Mercedes team a humbling 10-5 defeat.

Kampsen scored nine goals on the day as Hublot got on track after a competitive first chukker that had the team on top 1-0. Hublot scored two more unanswered goals in the second half as the host of ‘America’s Most Wanted’ and company had few answers for the high-powered Hublot play.

“That’s tough work,” said Walsh, following his match, “It’s physical and fast moving – a real challenge.”

Hublot increased their lead 5-1 after the third chukker, with 9-goaler, Tommy Biddle, finally landing AMG-Mercedes with a penalty goal. Kampsen added four more goals to the Hublot total in the fourth and final period, with teammate Thomas Winter scoring his first goal of the afternoon. AMG-Mercedes put up four goals of their own, with Biddle accounting for all five of the goals in the team’s 10-5 loss.

In earlier games, the Raleigh team defeated Yellow Cab 8-5 in a neck-and-neck brawl followed by a 10-8 win by the Grey Goose team from behind against LAN/Comcast, who missed a 2-point penalty shot that would have gained them a tie on the final whistle.

Onlookers in the AMG-Mercedes VIP tent included producer, Russell Simmons, who took an avid interest in the matches being played with friends.

Action continues on Saturday afternoon, starting at 1:00pm with Hublot against LAN/Comcast. At 2:00pm, AMG-Mercedes faces the Raleigh team, followed by a 3:00pm showdown between Grey Goose and Yellow Cab.

Towards the evening, Argentine Polo brand, La Martina hosted a runway show on the grounds of The Raleigh Hotel for Miami’s most sophisticated polo fans and trend setters. La Martina is the official Supplier of uniforms for both the Women’s and Men’s teams. In addition to supporting the Miami Beach Polo World Cup, La Martina is honored to be the official Supplier of many major Polo Tournaments around the world including the largest Polo Tournament held in Palermo, Argentina.

Paintings dedicated to the Sites and Spirit of Miami were unveiled at the New World Center By Betty Alvarez

Bernard Markowicz, owner of Markowicz Fine Art and U.S. Agent for French Painter and Sculptor Alain Godon, announced the catalog of premier architectural landmarks of Miami portrayed in a new collection of oil-on-canvas paintings. Godon has painted the sites and revealed the spirit of Paris, New York, Amsterdam and Le Touquet Paris-Plage, and recently added Miami to the prestigious list of international cities in his architecture series.

An exclusive preview of Architecture Collection “Miami” the night before the exhibit opened to the public took place on April 20 at the New World Center in Miami Beach. Paintings dedicated to the sites and spirit of Miami were unveiled during a collection debut: Where Art and Architecture Unite to Benefit the New World Symphony. The New World Center, designed by Pritzker Prize-winning Architect Frank Gehry was presented as the architectural landmark introducing the Miami collection. There was live classical performance by New World Symphony Fellows. The artwork on view were ten original pieces (eight on oil canvas and two sketches) and 30 single edition Bildoreliefo transformed from the New World Center, Hotel Marseilles and Delano oil-on-canvas paintings, each featuring ten unique versions of color gradations.

A powerful master of color, Godon’s artwork captures the essence of a city- its people, culture, monuments and architecture- and his playful imagination infuses his paintings with expressive line and rich vivid colors. The exhibition will be on view from April 21st-May 15th at Markowicz Fine Art located in the Miami Design District. For more information please call (786) 362-5546 or visit www.markowiczfineart.com

1111 Lincoln Road
South Beach, FL

Emerson’s short films are part of MGLFF’s new “Made in Miami” program supporting local talent

On Tuesday, April 26, 2011 local filmmaker Max Emerson will host the world premiere of his short films Earwig and DipSpit on the seventh floor of the 1111 Lincoln Road parking garage building in South Beach. The screening is part of a new Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival (MGLFF) program entitled “Made in Miami,” which highlights the city’s best new, local talent. Additional short films screening at the event include Tale of Two Balls and Hearts and Hotel Rooms, made by local filmmaker Justin James.

The seventh floor of the 1111 building will be modeled after a post-modern drive-in movie theater from the 1950s, complete with waiters on roller skates. “The whole space is outdoors so you can see every location showcased in my movies – both of which were completely filmed in Miami – from any point in the building,” says Emerson. University of Miami drama students will also be on hand to add a fun performance element to the event. Guests will enjoy passed bites and beverages by Shake Shack and cocktails by Brown-Forman (Jack Daniels, Finlandia, Herradura and Chambord Vodka).

“‘Made in Miami” will also serve as a fundraiser ($10 minimum donation is encouraged) for a new film festival program called SOS – Save Our Stories, which promotes script and story submissions from the LGBT community. The best pieces are guided through every step of the filmmaking process with the help of local industry professionals. No RSVP necessary as the event is running on a first come, first served basis.

Renowned celebrity artist Ryan Paul Simmons invites his supporters, friends and the press and media to celebrate his EARTH DAY birthday in style, at Miami Newest Hotspot Trio on the Bay, located at 1601 79th Street Causeway, on Friday, April 22, from 10:00 pm to 5:00 am.

New York art critics have referred to Ryan Paul Simmons as. “one of the most influential artists in modern history.” His choice of subject matter infused with a very bold color selection while pushing the elements of design is like no other. “This is not pop art! I just haven’t figured out what to call it yet,” says Simmons.

Currently, the Artist is working with Bette Midler and the New York Restoration Project for Earth Day via www.charitybuzz.com. Recently, the Artist teamed up with The White Ribbon Alliance to raise funds and awareness for the organization. A beautiful piece titled ‘Mother Earth’ was sold at auction as well as a commissioned piece.

Simmons, born as an abstract artist in Hollywood, Florida gained international momentum when he decided to create pop art and started the ‘Barock The Vote’ campaign. Rallying for Barack Obama alongside such celebrities as Matt Damon, Spike Lee, and Samuel Jackson, Simmons showcased an 8’x7′ pop art painting of the president-elect, which he developed on the road as he toured around the country. While Simmons has become recognized for his Andy Warhol style of pop art, his abstracts are collected worldwide and can be found in private collections. In 2009 his work was featured in Art Basel along with Andy Warhol, Salvador Dali, and Hunt Slonem and was then commissioned to paint an 8’x8′ pop art painting of a young Hugh Hefner live during the Playboy New Year’s Eve Party. “I was commissioned by the Obama Campaign to create awareness and the importance of voting in the 2008 Presidential election.” After 584 hours of live painting during various rallies throughout the States, the ‘Barock the Vote’ was complete. The piece has been in 2 Smithsonian Institutes, 9 inaugural balls, and was featured in Art Basel with Warhol and Dali.

Trio on The Bay is Miami’s premier high-energy event space, restaurant, and nightclub where dinner, drinks and dancing merge at this stunning 23,000 sq. ft. space, which includes a stylish indoor dining room and outdoor terrace space with breathtaking views of Biscayne Bay. Plum Miami Magazine Launch, the best party I have ever attended By Betty Alvarez

I just want to start off this story by stating that I have been to many events, parties, networkers, social affairs etc., I have to admit I was not prepared for what I was going to experience at the Plum Miami Magazine Launch party held at The Raleigh Hotel on April 15. This celebration hosted by The Plum Network brought the most influential crowd of celebrities and tastemakers. At this exclusive event, guests were the first to page through the new April 2011 issue, which features model and actress Lydia Hearst on the cover, shot by acclaimed photographer Brett Ratner.

As I entered the party, VIPs lined up the red-carpet located at the hotel’s iconic outdoor pool area to get their photos taken by the media photographers. The VIPs looked spectacular. As I made my way towards the beautiful pool, my attention quickly diverted to a model hanging on a loop up above the Grey Goose bar. As I turned around, there were literally 10 ft. models (models probably in stilts) with beautiful sparkling gowns.

As I went toward the Raleigh’s beautiful and large pool area, I noticed I was already on top of it. The organizers created a transparent platform that made guests feel they were on top of the water. On this platform, spray painted models with the word Plum on their bodies danced around with the guests along with mime models. One fun aspect that I noticed was that I believe one model sprayed an expandable string which guests really had fun in tangling themselves into.

One can’t forget, one of the most famous DJ’s in the world, DJ Irie spinned one hit after another in this party. Guests could not stop dancing as each hit played. He knows what moves the crowd.

There was one big surprise to the guests by Jerry Powers. Towards the middle of the night, Mr. Powers thanked all the sponsors such as Grey Goose Vodka, The Collection, DJ Irie, NY2, etc. He also thanked the attendees for their support in his magazine launch. He told the crowd, they were in for a big surprise and a treat for them. Suddenly, fireworks started. I literally felt that it was 4th of July. The fireworks were spectacular and we in the middle of April!! The fireworks lasted for 5-7 long minutes. I felt an all time high.

For one night, The Raleigh Hotel was transformed in a fun playground where supporters, VIPs, and celebrities enjoyed themselves. As I left the party, I was still in shock on how this party was really well organized and realized it was the best party I have ever attended. If this is the launch party, I wonder how future parties will be. Truly an amazing event I will never forget!

Michael Capponi Birthday Party The World is Not Enough 4/16/11

April 16, 8:00pm
Yacht Party
Miami Beach Marina

11pm, Afterparty
LIV at the Fontainebleu

The time has come for Michael Capponi’s annual birthday celebration, this Saturday April 16, 2011. This year’s party is a spoof on the two polar opposite lives Michael Capponi leads today. There is Michael Capponi’s life in Haiti, the poorest country in this hemisphere and his other life in South Beach, throwing lavish parties.

This birthday is way over the top! The private yacht, Allure Shadow, is so big that it won’t even fit under MacArthur causeway. The deck on yacht is as large as any dance floor in any club. Upon entering the yacht at the Miami Beach Marina at 8:00PM, you will be taken back to a James Bond experience with all guests dressed in theme.

Shaken not stirred cocktails courtesy of Grey Goose Vodka.
Lite bites will be provided by Aarons Catering.

In lieu of gifts, there is a minimum donation of $150 in advance or $200 at the door for men. Ladies donation is $20. Due to the limited capacity, it is highly suggested to make your donation and reserve your wrist band prior to my party. All monies collected go straight to United Way to help support my Humanitarian Community in Haiti.

At 11:30PM the music stops and everyone heads to LIV for a surprise part II, which will also blow everyone away!

Please make sure to call Michael Capponi’s office at 305.695.4410 in advance. RSVP is required, email rsvp@capponigroup.com.

Remember James Bond attire is mandatory.

Our Promise – To save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cure.
Today, Susan G. Komen for the Cure® is the world’s largest and most progressive grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists. Breast cancer is not predictable – it is a random disease. There are no boundaries – age, race, religion, socioeconomic status are not factors. It is the leading cause of death among women ages 40 – 59. Breast cancer strikes women during their most productive years – both personally and professionally. Everyone is affected by breast cancer – it’s a family disease. We don’t know what causes it, and we don’t have a cure. Early detection is critical, providing more treatment options and a greater chance of survival.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure has played a critical role in every major advance in the fight against breast cancer over the past 25 years – transforming how the world talks about and treats this disease. We have helped turn millions of breast cancer patients into breast cancer survivors. With more than $1.3 billion invested to date, Susan G. Komen for the Cure is the world’s single largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to curing breast cancer at every stage – from the causes, to the cures, to the pain and anxiety of every moment in between.

JohnMartin’s Hosts Wedding Festivities Featuring Traditional English Breakfast Cuisine and Royal Wedding Themed Costume Contest

On Friday, April 29th, millions around the world will be tuning in to watch the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton live from England. But, the perfect place to celebrate the royal nuptials in South Florida will be at JohnMartin’s Restaurant & Irish Pub in Coral Gables.

The morning festivities will begin bright and early at 5:45 a.m., just prior to the scheduled live telecast of the wedding ceremony at 6 a.m. EST until 11 a.m. Guests will be welcomed with a complimentary Kir Royale cocktail, along with a chance to meet the Queen Mum herself (or, perhaps, a very good look-alike). The wedding broadcast will then be displayed on 8 large television screens while guests enjoy a traditional English breakfast, smoked salmon crowns and breakfast scones with butter and clotted cream, as well as many other items. In addition, guests will be able to take their pictures with the life-sized cutout of the Royal Couple. (Bring your camera.)

Although the royal wedding is taking place an ocean away, it should not stop guests at JohnMartin’s from dressing up for the highly anticipated historic event. South Florida anglophiles are encouraged to participate in the morning’s royal wedding themed costume contest. First, second and third place prizes will be awarded to those wearing the best royal wedding guest attire, including but not limited to extravagant hats, gloves and morning coats.

“We anticipate having people drop by for breakfast before work and enjoying coffee or the Kir Royale with a nod to the Royal Couple,” said Martin Lynch, co-proprietor with John Clarke. “Anyone unable to attend the morning celebration can watch a replay of the wedding broadcast starting at noon for the lunchtime crowd,” he said.

JohnMartin’s, has been continually recognized for its cuisine by publications that voted the restaurant “Best Pub Food.” The restaurant features live entertainment every Friday and Saturday nights, from Contemporary Top 40 hits to rock to today’s popular Irish ballads. They also have The Trivia Night on Thursday nights beginning at 8 pm. JohnMartin’s is located at 253 Miracle Mile in Coral Gables. For more information, call (305) 445-3777, or go to www.johnmartins.com.

A majority of the inventory comes from local designers and artists including prints by Valentina Ramos, artwork by Drago Milic, BodyUP yoga clothing, Cedar Cove soaps and Soy Candela candles. There are also gifts and accessories by Natural Life and Curly Girl Design. Donation-based angel readings are done on premises by Ledesma, who received her certification from Doreen Virtue.

Sage not only carries crystals and incense, but spiritual-themed fairy and angel cards. A trendy and chic space, gift-givers will love the humorous themed books, air plants, and inspired home accessories.

About DJ Induce
Just as the things we want the most are the hardest to attain, DJ Induce, while gaining an increasing amount of exposure over the last few years, has been and will remain a rarity in his field – one which, at least in Miami, he could have arguably created. Yet, he is far from unknown. Reared on early to mid-ninety’s Hip Hop, Induce would study and recreate the clean, simple, yet classic scratches first created by the masters in order to create the unique style of DJing he calls his own.

Gliding through the genres without feeling out of place, Induce has become the go-to DJ in Miami for those seeking that next sound. Whether he is needed to create an atmosphere for The Miami Art Museum’s open house, poolside at the world-renowned Fontainebleau Hotel, making indie hipsters pump their fists until 5am at Miami’s 9 year indie staple, Poplife, or keeping the sweat drenched grown folks feeling sexy with his classic disco sets, it is no wonder why he was voted by the Miami New Times as best club DJ of 2008.

Induce also continually releases DJ mixes; many available for download on the Hometeam Podcast in the iTunes store, including an exquisite mix recorded live at LA’s legendary Do-Over party. Under the name, Midnight Moroders, he has also teamed with fellow Miami DJ’s, including Danny Daze (of DiscoTech) to produce a masterful mix of Italo-Disco, ranging from the rare to the classic Italo favorites.

Vespa Fort Lauderdale, with an additional store on Lincoln Road, will bring its famous scooters in their latest colors and accessories. Notte Italiana also kicks off Vespa’s partnership with Graspa Group for the Vespa Rally event series “Maitardi for a Vespa – Never Late for a Vespa”.

The not-yet-available-for-purchase FIAT 500 (Cinquecento), the newest model from the brand aimed at the young hip market, will be the centerpiece of Maitardi’s piazza. The small 3-door car is a cute, playful compact with soft rounded styling with customization options such as stickers, alloy wheels, badges to style details, elegance and comfort. The interior boats chrome elements, two-tone seats, protective environment for both driver and passenger, handy storage compartments and small details like a fragrance dispenser.

For the sparkle at Notte Italiana, Rebecca collection will shine as it has taken the jewelry market by storm since its inception a decade ago. Alessandro Testi, created the Rebecca collection by utilizing a proprietary 24-karat gold plating process, semiprecious gems and innovative designs inspiring the worldwide phenomenon of Italian fashion Jewelry. Maitardi is putting the spotlight on Rebecca’s latest precious designs, a perfect match to the Design District’s motto.

At last but not least, Sabrina Crippa, an Italian up-and-coming luxury designer, will fashion TAJ brand designs and accessories of only the finest quality silks, leathers and cottons, often featuring intricate embroidery, semi-precious stones, fine crystals and other luxurious details. Sabrina’s pieces will be on mannequins and models throughout the evening of Notte Italiana.

Models wearing TAJ and Rebecca Jewelry will be coiffed by Rossano Ferretti Hairspa’s stylists and Notte Italiana is supported by Societa Dante Alighieri, the cultural branch of the Consulate of Italy.

Iberia now operates now three non-stop flights weekly to Barcelona on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. Passengers coming from other U.S destinations, such as Dallas, Houston, Orlando and Tampa can connect to the new route via American Airlines. At Barcelona airport, travellers can link with Iberia Regional / Air Nostrum and Vueling flights to cities such as Bilbao, Majorca, Malaga and Valencia in Spain or Milan, Nice, Paris and Rome in Europe. Iberia expects to carry 53,000 passengers on this route in the first year of operation.

The non-stop Miami-Barcelona flight will be the second U.S route inaugurated by Iberia this week as the airline has also started flying this past Monday, March 28, between Los Angeles and Madrid. Iberia offers now three non-stop flights weekly from Los Angeles on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays – with an additional Friday flight from July to September.

The aircraft used on these routes will be a 254-seat Airbus A-340/300, with a 36-seat Business Plus section, recently redesigned, that offers 2.20 meters of space for each passenger and seats that unfold into horizontal beds.

To promote the new Miami-Barcelona route , Iberia is awarding triple frequent flyer points for tickets acquired in iberia.com through May 31st. The 1,800 points obtained flying from Miami to Barcelona are enough to pay for three return Madrid-Barcelona shuttle flights, for two return trips between Madrid and Casablanca, or for one return flight between Madrid and Athens, Istanbul, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Berlin, or other cities in Europe.

Now Iberia operates 10 weekly flights from Miami to Spain: apart from this new Miami-Barcelona route, it flies daily from Miami to Madrid. Iberia’s operations in Miami began on August 3, 1972. These new routes, together with the overall capacity increase on its flights from Boston, Chicago and New York to the Spanish capital will consolidate the United States as Iberia’s most important long-haul market. In 2011 the airline will offer a total of 1,164,000 seats between the Spain and USA, representing a 13 per cent increase from 2010.

The new flights and the overall capacity increase are part of the joint business launched in October last year by Iberia, American Airlines and British Airways for routes over the North Atlantic. Customers of the three airlines have now more travel options available, with more frequencies, more destinations and better connections across their networks. The three airlines’ combined route network serves 433 destinations in 105 countries with almost 5,200 daily departures.

American Airlines and British Airways will also start new services as a consequence of the joint business. Beginning April 5th, American launches service from JFK to Budapest and on May 1st, it begins a new flight from Chicago to Helsinki. Also, British Airways will begin service from San Diego to London on June 2nd.

Dream in Green’s annual fundraiser made lots of green at their anniversary event by Betty Alvarez

A who’s who of sustainability and environmental finance attended the Dream in Green’s Anniversary fundraiser held on April 1st at the beautiful Palms Hotel & Spa, on Miami Beach. Dream in Green (South Florida’s largest environmental-education non profit) joined Sustainability 2011 with its party-of-the-year, Living the Dream.

The eco-fabulous Palms Hotel generously donated 3-hours of complimentary delectables and cocktails. The 2011 Green Innovators and community leaders who were honored that evening were The Heat Group, Miami-Dade County’s Office of Sustainability, DecoBike and Assurant. Roger Bustamante (of Miami Symphony) set the mood with his bossa nova trio while guests bid on the over-the-top silent auction items. This year, Dream in Green started the bidding early through the pre-event, online auction, at www.dreamingreen.org.

The evening was emceed by Emmy-winning weathercaster, Trent Monge. Dream in Green received a Proclamation from Commissioner Jerry Libbin and the City of Miami Beach and there was also a beautiful art installation of each guest’s ‘green dream’ written on leaves, swaying in the Palms bamboo grove. The beautiful winner of the Miss Green Earth pageant was also in attendance.

All proceeds from this event are going to be used to expand the Green Schools Challenge program in South Florida. The Green Schools Challenge is currently in over 100 schools (K-12) and fosters green citizenship in upcoming generations by promoting energy and water conservation, waste reduction and sustainable community principles.

It was for sure a very special and memorable evening.

MIYO Home hosts chair-ity event to celebrate the launch of MIYO Home Virtual Boutique By Betty Alvarez

MIYO Home is pleased to announce the Chair-ity cocktail event on March 30th, with proceeds benefiting the Juvenile Bipolar Research Foundation. To celebrate the launch of the virtual boutique, MIYO Home commissioned eight local artistic visionaries along with a celebrity interior designer to create a customized MIYO Home Chair. Artists were invited to translate their visions onto a classic design piece – a chair – using the Juvenile Bipolar Research Foundation as a reference of inspiration. The one-of-a-kind chairs will be on display throughout the evening and auctioned off. The auction will begin prior to the event on the MIYO Home virtual boutique and will end at the event; 100% of the proceeds from all eight chairs were donated to the Juvenile Bipolar Research Foundation.

“The Juvenile Bipolar Research is a foundation that is very near and dear to me,” said MIYO Home co-owner and long-time supporter Fati Rosenberg. “It’s the first charitable organization fully committed to the support of research for the study of early-onset bipolar disorder; my ultimate goal is to draw awareness to the foundation and further aid in the study and treatment of this debilitating condition.”

The Chair-ity event took place at the beautiful MIYO Home Zen Garden where the eight completed MIYO Home Chairs were unveiled. Guests gathered while artists share insight on their inspiration as well as why they chose to collaborate for this important cause. On behalf of the Juvenile Bipolar Research Foundation, Dr. Demitri F. Papolos, M.D., Director of Research, was on hand to commemorate MIYO Home and supporters.

Among the eight visionaries who donated their talents were Thom Filicia, celebrity interior designer and TV personality; Seth Browarnik, celebrity lensman; local designer and developer, Mario Egozi; Miami-based European artist, Iran Issa Khan; Coral Gables interior designer, Hillary Scrutis; renowned interior designer, Briggs Solomon; Miami’s most sought after landscape designers, Fernando Wong and Miami-based interior designer, Robert Zemnickis.

First Ever Red Bull Candola 4/9/11

Get Ready To Set Sail (Or Sink) For The First Ever Red Bull Candola
Saturday, April 9th
New River
Fort Lauderdale, Florida

For more information on Red Bull Candola and to find a full list of participating teams, check out www.redbullusa.com/candola.

Twenty-five Teams Chosen to Compete in this Inaugural Event in Gondola History

Pirates, Vikings, and spaghetti – oh, my! It’s clear the lineup of teams for the first Red Bull Candola is a creative bunch and they’re ready to bring their gondola making skills to the Venice of America – Fort Lauderdale, Florida. On Saturday, April 9th , this festive event will take place at the New River as teams of three will row their manmade (and human-powered) crafts down a .33 mile course between Huizenga Plaza and Esplanade Park in downtown Fort Lauderdale.

A team of gondola making experts chose the coveted 25 teams to participate in Red Bull Candola after carefully reviewing and analyzing their Italian craftsmanship based on their design submissions. As you can tell by the highlighted submissions below they are all bello and certain to entertain. All of the teams and their craft designs can be found at www.redbullusa.com/candola.

When You Build Crazy Boats And Then Somehow They Float, That’s Candola!

While some crafts vary from a charging bull to techno loving Vikings, water safety is every team’s number one priority. Team vessels will be made using light weight and environmentally safe materials. While in theory we want all of their gondolas to stay afloat, it’s not very likely and we need to keep the water safe for its inhabitants. All boats must be entirely human-powered – in other words, no motors or stored energy – and cannot exceed 100 pounds (without passengers) and must be between six and twelve feet long. Oh, and strong swimming skills are required by all aboard.

Aside from their race time, teams will also be judged on creativity and showmanship and to win over the hearts of the crowd and judges, each team will perform a 30 second skit before they race – much like its big brother Red Bull Flugtag.

Caribea, a night to remember By Betty Alvarez

Caribea, a latin fusion party was the hit of the night at Dolores or you can call me Lolita on March 24. Brugal served as one of the major sponsors hosting the event. At the start of the evening, all guests walked the red carpet like the star that they are. The passed appetizers and Brugal infused cocktails were the talk of the evening. Lastly, inside Dolores, the night exploded as latin music played by a resident DJ. It made the guests dance until the morning.

It was truly an unforgettable night.

Richie Rich’s dinner kick off party for Funkshion Fashion Week By Betty Alvarez

Famed fashion designer Richie Rich hosted a kick-off dinner party at Eden restaurant on 23rd and Collins. He was in town for Funkshion Fashion week, one of the most popular fashion shows Miami Beach experienced. All fashion shows were held in a big tent along 8th and Ocean Drive.

Richie Rich showed up with his entourage and greeted guests who booked a table at the restaurant. Eden Restaurant also hosted a media reception beforehand in which members of the media flashed their cameras as he entered the establishment. Making his signature pose to the photographers, Richie Rich posed alongside his loyal fans and not to mention the vice mayor of Miami Beach Michael Gongora. He was a delight to his fans and to the media as well.

Guests to enjoy traditional English fare while watching Wills & Kate say I do in the most expensive celebrity wedding ever

On Friday, April 29, 2011, National Hotel Miami Beach will host a royal affair in honor of the much-anticipated marriage of England’s Prince William to fiancé Kate Middleton. Held at The Restaurant and Blues Bar from 6:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., the broadcast viewing party will offer guests the opportunity to watch the festivities on a large projector screen while enjoying a traditional “Full English Breakfast” consisting of fried eggs, English-style sausage, rashers of crispy fried bacon, browned mushrooms, black pudding, a browned half tomato and fried bread. For those who miss the live viewing of the celebrated couple’s “I do’s,” Blues Bar will continue to loop the footage throughout the day accompanied by Kir Royal cocktails for $6 each. Guests are invited to enjoy the breakfast for $24 (gratuity and cocktails not included), while those who don their best Kate Middleton hat will receive a complimentary Kir Royal. Valet parking will also be offered at a discounted rate of $10.

In what will be the largest royal wedding since Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana – and not to mention the most expensive celebrity wedding ever, likely costing British taxpayers more than $20 million – the marriage of Wills and Kate will commence with the arrival of the bride at Westminster Abbey, followed by an 11:00 a.m. (GMT) ceremony during which time Archbishop Canterbury Rowan Williams will marry the couple, whose eight-year courtship has drawn international attention. Witnesses and those who catch the live viewing on BBC and BBC America will then look on as the newly weds glide in a horse-drawn carriage through Britain’s Parliament Square, Whitehall, Horse Guards Parade, the Mall and then to Buckingham Palace, where husband and wife are expected to make an appearance on the same balcony William’s parents kissed after their wedding in 1981.

Family-Style Sundays At The Stage
New Live Music Venue Offers Families a Place to Experience Art Every Sunday

The owners of Miami’s newest live music and entertainment venue, The Stage, are impassioned when it comes to the impact art can have on a child. After watching schools cut art programs for years, owners Carlos Garcia and Sasha Torres wanted to give the community a place where children can experience art in its many forms. With their Family-Style-Sundays at The Stage parents and children have a whole new arena to explore music, art and food every weekend.

Every Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., Family-Style-Sundays at The Stage will host a farmer’s market style festival that includes live music, various activities, and local vendors. There is no entry fee. Food is available from Gastropod, Miami’s mobile gourmet, which will have a permanent home at The Stage in the near future. The Stage will also offer interactive art and music classes in the coming months.

“What I think attracts families on Sundays is this relaxed vibe that comes from having great bands like Stokeswood and Locos Por Juana,” said Lizzie Easton of Soula Booking, one of the minds behind The Stage. The Stage has invited some of Miami’s hottest bands to come out on Sundays to showcase more mellow sounds complementary to the family environment.

Inspired by the French Market in New Orleans, Garcia saw how families flocked to a kid-friendly weekend diversion. “I think it’s vital to get back to the basics. We get so wrapped up with our everyday lives that we forget how important it is to spend quality time with our families,” he explained. Sunday’s have always been reserved as a family day, “at The Stage we’re giving families something much more exciting to do than family dinner” Torres boasted.

The Miami Institute for Age Management & Intervention Welcomed Dr. Phillip Craft to Miami’s Elite Group of Medical Providers

The MIAMI Institute for Age Management & Intervention (www.MIAMI-Institute.com) hosted a special evening in honor of acclaimed plastic surgeon, Dr. Phillip Craft. The MIAMI Institute welcomed Dr. Craft to the dynamic surgical team, on Wednesday, February 23rd, with an elegant cocktail soiree. To celebrate the newest addition, guests were greeted with the beautiful melodies of a harp and cello player from the Miami Symphony Orchestra as The MIAMI Institute opened its doors to the luxurious 9,000 square-foot facility for cocktails and hors d’oeuvres provided by Gourmand At Home.

Guests mingled while enjoying the libations and delicious hors d’oeuvres as they received an insider’s look at the spectacular facility and met with Miami’s “Dream Team” of anti-aging specialists. “Dr. Craft brings a new element to our leading-edge medical team,” says Julio F. Gallo, MD FACS, Medical Director of The MIAMI Institute. “His unique surgical skills and outstanding reputation in the industry makes Dr. Craft a most welcome addition to our team of physicians,” says Dr. Gallo.

New Cutting-Edge Procedures Now Available at The MIAMI Institute:

Stem-Cell Rejuvenation
The MIAMI Institute adds a Stem Cell practice to their roster of anti-aging technology – a process whereby the hidden genetic potential of adult stem cells is awakened – to enhance face lift and buttock lift procedures. By transplanting carefully harvested autologous fat, any potential for an allergic reaction is eliminated. These specific “Stem Cell Growth Factors” induce the skin and fatty layers to produce more of their own cells. The Factors stimulate or initiate “a signal” to both the local stem cells within the skin and fat as well as the transplanted adult stem cells from the lower abdomen to multiply and restore themselves.

NeoGraft TM Hair Restoration
The MIAMI Institute introduces the state-of-the-art solution for hair loss and the first minimally invasive FDA approved automated hair transplant system. NeoGraft TM is a revolutionary, patented hair transplant device that automates hair transplant procedures. Down time is minimal as each follicular unit graft is individually extracted from the donor area and is then transplanted to thin or bald areas.

ABOUT THE MIAMI INSTITUTE
Located in the prestigious Four Seasons® Hotel and Tower and led by internationally regarded facial plastic surgeon Dr. Julio F. Gallo, The MIAMI Institute is a surgical center and medical spa providing progressive medicine, advanced technology, and encompassing treatments that reverse the effects of aging. The Institute’s skilled staff of surgeons, dentists, internists, medical technicians, nutritionists and health education specialists is dedicated to providing patients with tailored services – including cosmetic surgery, age management therapies, aesthetics treatments, cosmetic dentistry services and wellness counseling – that help them look and feel their best as they grow older.

From food, water and shelter to educational and artistic enrichment, we aim to collectively meet the immediate, basic needs of children as well as contribute to the sustainable development of the communities so that they can live up to their full potential. Miami Assists is creating a movement that empowers the global community to take action to improve the lives of children living in inhumane conditions throughout the Caribbean and South America. We believe that in a world that can so easily connect, no child should suffer.

We are proud to have the support of Miami’s own HAITIAN HERITAGE MUSEUM. HHM has been actively working at preserving and highlighting Haiti’s heritage and rich culture nationally and internationally. The City of Miami is awarding Ms. Pierre the Executive Director/Founder of the Haitian Heritage Museum as Woman of the Year in the Arts and Entertainment, for all of the amazing work she has contributed to the community.

Miami Assists is equally excited to collaborate with CLOAK inc. a conscientious apparel company that has supported Haiti since 2008. CLOAK promotes hope & inspiration through fashion. Unfortunately, the dance studio, which was a beacon of safety for so many youth in Haiti, crumbled in the earthquake.

LIFE FOR THE WORLD (http://lifefortheworld.com) operates and supports Maranatha Orphanage and School in Source Matelas. The proceeds from this event will assist in rebuilding the orphanage as the children have been sleeping outside, on the streets or under tents since the earthquake. . Life for the World has participated in taking canvasses and paint supplies to Maranatha to give the children at the orphanage art therapy and in turn the paintings have been taken back to NY to be featured at a gallery to raise funds for the orphanage. The project continues to support the children to rebuild their school and paint a brighter future.

Music will be provided by DJ Sabine of DJ’s for Haiti and Brooklyn Mecca NYC. Sabine is active in creating events throughout NYC that bring awareness to her Haitian heritage and culture.

Miami International Film Festival’s Red Carpet sizzled on Opening Night and Festivities continued at Freedom Tower By Betty Alvarez

28th Annual Miami International Film Festival (MIFF) produced and presented by Miami Dade College (MDC) launched a new chapter with a new executive director. the official lineup of the Miami International Film Festival (MIFF) will be repleting with Red Carpet Gusman Galas, Premieres, Competition Categories and Awards, REEL Education Seminars and other special presentations that make up the Festival’s showcase of more than 100 films from 40 countries during the 10-day event, which runs to March 13, 2011.

The Festival launched on March 4 with the first Opening Night animated feature in its 28-year history: Chico & Rita by Oscar- and Goya Award-winning Spanish director Fernando Trueba and Barcelona designer Javier Mariscal. Already a sensation in theaters across Europe, Chico & Rita is the love story of Chico, a penniless piano player, and Rita, a sultry singer, who meet by chance one night in 1948 at Havana’s world-famous Tropicana Club. From there, the star-crossed lovers begin a tumultuous affair that spans decades and takes them to the glamorous stages of New York City, Paris, Hollywood and Las Vegas. Their complex tale of heartache and longing, much like a traditional bolero, unfolds to a musical soundtrack of spirited re-recordings of favorites by jazz legends Nat King Cole, Dizzy Gillespie, Israel ―Cachao‖ López, Thelonious Monk, Charlie Parker, Chano Pozo and Tito Puente, among others. The red carpet arrivals was lined up with the producers and stars of the movie. At the end of arrivals a luxurious top of the line Lexus automobile was parked at the top of the Red Carpet as Lexus is one of the major sponsors of the film festival.

Trueba previously directed Belle époque, starring Penelope Cruz and Jorge Sanz, which won the 1994 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. His Latin Jazz documentary, Calle 54, won MIFF’s Audience Award in 2001. He also previously opened the 14th edition of MIFF, in 2004, with Belle époque. The critically acclaimed film marks Trueba’s return to the Festival, after a 10-year absence.

Following the film, an opening night gala party, held at Miami Dade College’s historic and beautiful Freedom Tower featured a tribute to Cuban music. Guests enjoyed light bites by La Estancia Argentina, Hard Rock Cafe, and other notable area restaurants. Cocktails were sponsored by Rums of Puerto Rico and Coffee drinks by Illy.

“Romance in a Can” Film Festival Rolls out the
Red Carpet for its Fifth Year

“Romance In A Can” Film Festival, presented by Red Chemistry, Inc., has earned a reputation for bringing the finest European romance films to U.S. audiences since 2006. This year, the film festival will run from May 5 to May 10, with a kick-off event on March 3 at the Angler’s Boutique Resort in Miami Beach at 7:00 p.m. The event will feature screenings of short films, hors d’oeuvres by the Angler’s Boutique Resort and Chamarré wines (event cost is $15). Romance In A Can will showcase its film program at various locations including the Colony Theater, Miami Beach Cinematheque, Miami Beach High School, Alliance Francaise, Coral Gables Art Cinema (in collaboration with the Video on Demand Channel eurocinema) and FIU South Campus.

Furthermore, Romance In A Can is the only film festival dedicated to the screening of European romance films in North America. Since its inception in 2007, Romance In A Can has exposed U.S. and Hispanic audiences to a number of unsurpassed films from the best and brightest movie makers in the European film market such as I Am Staying starring Sophie Marceau, Escuela de Seduccion with Victoria Abril, Mujer Invisible with Maria Bouzas and many more. This year, the festival will screen films from over ten European countries including France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Israel and others, which are traditionally shown during opening and closing night.

About the film programming: During the 2010 Cannes Film Festival, ACID (Association for the Distribution of Independent Cinema) presented a selection of 9 acclaimed international full-length films including Into Our Hands, Cuchillo De Palo, Donoma, Fix Me, Flowers of Evil, Chicks, Pursuit, Robert Mitchum is Dead and The Drifter. This year, Romance in a Can has the pleasure of presenting the same 9 feature films from the ACID Cannes selection in Miami. Created in 1994, ACID’s mission is to give visibility and public release to new talents in the film industry. ACID’s support does not stop after the presentation in Cannes. In partnership with 35 festivals, ACID presents movies in France (Paris, La Rochelle, Lussas, Pau, Belfort) as well as abroad (Montreal, Bratislava, Tübingen, Linz, Prague, Lisbonne, Pesaro) and now Miami.

Roamnce In A Can also embraces Miami’s cultural arts by giving back to the community through Red Chemistry, Inc., a non-profit organization that raises funds for local youth art programs. Each year, Red Chemistry sponsors a short film competition with local film students from Miami Beach Senior High School and international film students. This year’s theme is “For The Love Of” and the awards ceremony will take at Miami Beach Senior High School on Friday, May 6 at 7:30 p.m. A jury of professionals from the movie industry will review films made by European film students as well as films produced by local MBSH students. The Third Annual Vizcaya Preservation Luncheon in the classical gardens at Vizcaya Museum and Gardens

On Tuesday, February 22, 2011, The Vizcayans, along with Italian fashion house Valentino, will host the Third Annual Vizcaya Preservation Luncheon at Vizcaya Museum and Gardens.

Three years ago, The Vizcayans were faced with the challenge of protecting their beloved estate’s historic viewshed. In an impassioned effort to safeguard the endangered landmark, Norma Quintero founded the Vizcaya Preservation Luncheon, which has now blossomed into a much-anticipated annual event.

Fondly referred to as the “hat luncheon”, this year’s event will emulate the traditional chic daytime events that were customarily held in the formal Italianate gardens during Vizcaya’s early years as a public museum. Women are invited to dress elegantly; seas of glamorous and fanciful hats spotted in years past were almost as striking as the gardens. Gentlemen are welcome to attend in sub-tropical dapper dress including hats.

A Black River Caviar Reception beginning at 11 am will welcome guests as theyembark upon an exclusive experience of Vizcaya’s Italianate gardens. The al-fresco luncheon, beginning at 12:30 pm will include a fashion show featuring Valentino’s Spring/Summer 2011 Collection. Other highlights include the following: A raffle drawing for a one-week stay in a private guest house at La Foce in southeast Tuscany (see www.lafoce.com). A live auction for a $5,000 Shopping Spree and a private luncheon for 10-12 ladies catered by Thierry’s Catering at the Valentino Boutique at the Bal Harbour Shops (see www.valentino.com.

The Annual Vizcaya Preservation Luncheon introduces guests to the splendor of Vizcaya’s gardens, and invites them to support The Vizcayans’ mission to protect, preserve and promote Vizcaya including its historic gardens.

Special Recognition to the Following Supporters: Don Pepin Cigars, La Foce, USA Bouquet, Karla Conceptual Event Experiences, Thierry’s Catering and Michael’s Designs

The Vizcayans is the private sector support organization for Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, in partnership with the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens Trust. Since its inception in 1957, The Vizcayans has provided funding, advocacy and volunteer support for Vizcaya. The Vizcayans is the recipient of the President’s Award from the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Ticket prices are $275 for individuals. For more information, please contact The Vizcayans’ office at (305) 856-4866 or www.vizcayans.org.

Vizcaya Museum and Gardens is a historic house museum and National Historic Landmark that preserves the Miami estate of Chicago industrialist, James Deering (1859-1925). Vizcaya is one of the most complete remaining examples of classical architectural and landscape design from the American Renaissance inspired by the traditions of the European Renaissance. Today, the 50-acre estate includes a main house, featuring 34 decorated rooms; 10 acres of formal gardens; and a native hardwood hammock and mangroves. Accredited by the American Association of Museums, offers tours in multiple languages and is open to the public 364 days per year. For more information on Vizcaya, please visit www.vizcayamuseum.org.

Tell Your ¿Que Pasa, USA? Story Live at Main Library 3/3/11

Call For Stories: Tell Your ¿Que Pasa, Usa? Story Live!
Thursday, March 3 at 6:30 p.m.
Main Library
101 West Flager
Miami FL 33130

Send a summary of your story, your name and phone number to art@mdpls.org by February 18th.

Do you have a good ¿Que Pasa, USA? story you’re willing to share in front of a live audience during our ¿Que Pasa, USA? screening/event which will be held on Thursday, March 3 at 6:30 p.m. at Main Library. If so, please tell us why and send your name and phone number to art@mdpls.org. Deadline is February 18th.

The Miami-Dade Public Library System is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a special ¿Que Pasa, USA? screening/event on Thursday, March 3 at 6:30 p.m. at the Main Library. The event is in collaboration with WPBT (who originally aired the show) and generation ñ. If you’ve never seen it, ¿Que Pasa? is kind of like a Cuban-American Good Times – and it first aired around the same time, between 1975-80.

We’re looking for a couple of people with really, really good ¿Que Pasa, USA? stories. Stories should be no longer than 10 minutes long – shorter is even better. They can be funny or serious or silly or sad as long as it’s an engaging, well-told story about a specific memory or incident or sequence of events.

Maybe you remember loving the show growing up even though you didn’t speak Spanish. Or you laughed your head off (or cried) at the “Super Chaperone” episode because it reminds you of something that happened to you.

Marek Hewryk Redefines European Luxury By Betty Alvarez

Canadian skin care specialist, Marek Hewryk, opened the most elegant and exquisite skin care boutique, HEWRYK with his two brands: Marek Hewryk and 4VOO in the epicenter of the “city beautiful” on Feb. 3 with a fabulous by-invitation-only red carpet event that was attended by city officials, dignitaries, A-listers and celebrities. Miracle Mile was the place to be- to experience the HEWRYK.

HEWRYK boutique offers a fresh, modern, and chic venue for both women and men to shop for luxury skin care products containing sophisticated ingredients. Taking a break from typical cosmetic stores that offer products for variety of tastes, HEWRYK boutique is designed to cater to women and men seeking exceptional quality skin care products with the most advanced formulations. Both brands, Marek Hewryk and 4VOO have been available in many countries in department stores such as Harrods in London, Galleries Lafayette in Paris, and Isetan in Tokyo. Never before had they been available together in a specially designed setting which fully reflects their creator’s philosophy. Now this will come to fruition in South Florida and in what many consider one of the most if not the most lovely area of the city.

In 2003 Marek Hewryk released 4VOO Distinct Man – a premium skin care line designed specifically for men and then in 2009 a luxury brand, Marek Hewryk for women. Since inception, both brands have become the world’s leading skin care treatment, contributing immensely to the burgeoning market of luxury skin care and cosmetics; they became favorites among celebrities and royalties. After surveying the landscape of skin care boutiques, Marek Hewryk discovered a powerful demand for new luxury and new ideas. “I wanted to provide women and men with an elegant new shopping experience – unlike anything they’ve felt before,” says president and founder, Marek Hewryk. “I know they’ll love my boutique, it’s sophisticated, it’s luxurious and it’s designed to compliment a glamorous lifestyle.” Owner commissioned work of very well know designers while creating his HEWRYK boutique.

Hewryk believes that personal touches he offers, like luxury shopping experience, personal consultations, or even development of fully customized skin care products will make a difference; of course the last one is by an appointment only. He already has an impressive list of his personal clients that adore his products. Hewryk had the dream to create a unique skin care boutique that would highlight his exclusive and luxury products for both women and men from which every single one was developed by him. As an applied chemist and biologist, Hewryk creates his products with the most sophisticated and powerful ingredients such as silk, pearl, orchid, numerous natural botanical extracts, and biochemically active peptides, some of them with platinum. He also developed Marekâ„¢ 116 a unique technology he employs in his product creation.

HEWRYK boutique is located at 57 Miracle Mile (breezeway) in Coral Gables and open from Tuesday to Saturday from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM. More information is also available on the web at: www.Hewryk.com

The Elite Body Sculpting launch cocktail event plans to be a very special evening as both father and son proudly unveil their latest creation which brings together their respective education and experience. Taking place Friday, January 28, 2011 the event will start promptly at 6:30PM with a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by Coral Gables Mayor Donald Slesnick, president of the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce Mark A Trowbridge, Karent Sierra, World renowned artist Carlos A. Navarro, WSVN Deco Drive and on the Flip Side host, Aubrey Aquino and local celebrities and VIP’s.

Event goers will be able to experience the elegant facilities that Elite offers while sipping on delicious cocktails including: Gentleman’s Jack and Chambord Vodka. Coral Gables is about to become a bit more beautiful as Elite Body Sculpting is ready to open its doors for those who are looking to improve their well being inside and out. The opening will be celebrated with a cocktail launch event taking place this Friday January 28, 2011 which promises to be an affair fitting of the “City Beautiful”. Elite Body Sculpting headed by father and son team Dr. Frank Ferrin and Christopher Ferrin offers a more holistic approach to those who seek to improve their health and appearance.

Dr. Frank Ferrin who has over 25 years of surgical experience has for the past few years focused his practice on anti-aging and rejuvenation methods dealing with bio-identical hormones, weight management and facial and body contouring. Elite’s philosophy is that the current generation refuses to look older than they feel. Dr. Ferrin states: “We live in a new age of competitiveness and personal fulfillment that demands our vitality, and youthful appearance, and thus, both men and women are seeking the help of estheticians and cosmetic surgeons to help them maintain, restore or improve their appearance. This has become essential in our professional and personal lives, in our marriages and sexual relationships, and in general in our social and interpersonal endeavors.” Dr. Ferrin feels that many want to simply rely on cosmetic surgery to do all the magic. He feels that people need to maintain proper diet, rest, and exercise to maintain optimal health and in turn keep that youthful feel we all want.

Dr. Ferrin saw an opportunity to offer clients his services in conjunction with the services of his son Christopher Ferrin who earned his Bachelor in Sports Science and Exercise Physiology. His education and training allows him to address specific needs in the fields of fitness, strength and endurance training while remaining dedicated to enhancing people’s lifestyle. Christopher specializes in one-on-one personal training, catering to the goals and needs of each specific client. What sets Elite Body Sculpting apart is that they offer clients personal fitness training, cutting edge body contouring, anti-aging and rejuvenation programs under the same roof at an elegant high-end facility. This father-son duo plan to change their patients from the inside out with a comprehensive plan tailored to their individual wants and needs of the client.

Ponce de Leon came to Florida looking for the fountain of youth. He found out that it was just a myth. While the fountain of youth still remains a distant dream Elite Body Sculpting offers the next best thing to looking and feeling as young as your soul desires. This dynamic father and son team welcome you to Elite Body Sculpting.

Click here to sign up. Event is RSVP only.

With their ability to convey power and emotion, rock and art are natural bedfellows, even though Dwayne Johnson is quite a bit younger than Garfunkel. Linking them together in slightly less hot-yet-tender fashion, the Art Of Rock Gala.

AORG is a booze-/ grub-loaded gala celebrating the work of eight big-deal graphic artists with a knack for morphing rock music into clever visuals before painstakingly hand-printing them, basically elevating the concert poster into art, which sounds completely gross if you’re still thinking about Garfunkel.
