To speak or not to speak on Carlos García de la Nuez 3/25/09

To speak or not to speak on Carlos García de la Nuez
Presentation: March 25, 20:00 hours
Location: Books and Books 265 Aragón Ave.
Coral Gables, FL. 33134
The art book CARLOS GARCIA will be presented on March 25, at 8:00 pm, at Books and Books, 265 Aragón Ave. Coral Gables, FL. 33134, tel. 305 442 44 08, fax. 305 44 97 51. orders@boooksandbooks.com This launching will be held within the framework of Arteamericas 09, one of the most important art fairs taking place in the United States, where Carlos García will show his art works. The book’s edition which took one year to complete, is the product of the author’s comprehensive work, with more than 160 photographs of his paintings and critical essays by renowned writers, in 295 pages. The editor of this publication is Galería Talento Arte Visual, located in Mexico City.

It would seem that the spirit of the man who dreams is completely satisfied. That refractibilitat, that pulling and encrypted energy composing the crash between objects, signs and moods in an encounter of fortuity, embraces the aesthetic experience of Carlos García, whose work, besides poetic is an act of giving in, always aimed towards the edge of painting.

From its depth, this book speaks of the heritage of abstractionism placed within figurative traces, re-symbolized landscapes and territories conquered by pigment stains, calligraphies, punctuation and writings, like chromatic metaphors of a new nature.

Carlos García lifts off with his work within the so called 80´s Generation, marked by the rupture with the traditional school of Cuban painting. His group, Cuatro por Cuatro, is considered one of the most important in the context of visual arts in Havana during that decade. He has participated with his work in the 19th edition of the São Paulo Biennial in Brazil. He has worked with the Donberger Gallery in Germany; Galerie Nesle and Galerie Artuel in France; Galería Talento Visual, from Mexico. He has exhibited his paintings in Russia, France, Italy, Germany, Yugoslavia, Costa Rica, Brazil, Colombia, Panama, Argentina; all this, to highlight only a few of the most important moments in the universe of this renowned painter.

His work is part of the Permanent Collection of Museo de Bellas Artes in Havana, Cuba.

In 1994, Bunim/Murray Productions made the groundbreaking decision to cast openly gay, HIV-positive Cuban-American and Miami resident Pedro Zamora as part of MTV’s The Real World: San Francisco. Zamora’s time in the Real World house on Lombard Street brought a face to the AIDS crisis; and U.S. President Bill Clinton credited Zamora with personalizing and humanizing those with the disease.

PEDRO celebrates the extraordinary life of Pedro Zamora, a young man who when he found out he was HIV positive at 17, made the courageous decision to dedicate the rest of his life to speaking out about his condition in an attempt to raise awareness about the disease in his community, even testifying before the United States Congress to argue for more explicit HIV/AIDS educational programs aimed at youth of color before auditioning for The Real World in 1993. His appearance on The Real World brought his story and his message to MTV’s youthful audience and beyond, and when Zamora’s health began to deteriorate in late 1994 (after he left the show), it became front page news nationwide, and his death at age 22 provoked a worldwide outpouring of grief. This amazing feature film was written by ACADEMY AWARD Winner Dustin Lance BLack (MILK) and features a stellar performance by Miami resident Alex Loynaz as Pedro.

DONT MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY TO MEET THE CAST OF PEDRO & MEMBERS OF THE ZAMORA FAMILY!

Opening Reception for Abstract Cinema and Technology 3/25/09

abstract_evite300dpi_3
Opening Reception for Abstract Cinema and Technology, Wednesday, March 25, 7-9 pm
RSVP: rsvp@mocanomi.org

Highlighting pivotal works by artists who broke boundaries in filmmaking, Abstract Cinema & Technology explores how technological innovations from the 1920s to the present provided new means for artists to create abstract moving images. On view March 25 – May 11, 2009 the exhibition brings together a wide range of artists who have pioneered advances in media ranging from early experimentation with celluloid, color, light, and sound to new digital technologies that allow for direct viewer interaction with the work. Most of these artists are recognized for their advancements in media arts instead of traditional art forms. The exhibition is organized by the Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami and is curated by MOCA Executive Director Bonnie Clearwater, in association with MOCA Exhibition Coordinator Kevin Arrow.

The exhibition features works by Jose Alvarez, Cory Arcangel, Jordan Belson, Jeremy Blake, Mary Ellen Bute, Marcel Duchamp, Oskar Fischinger, Jiae Hwang and Nicolas Raftis III, Nam June Paik, Len Lye, Kevin Medal, Bruce Nauman, C.E.B. Reas, Hans Richter, Harry Smith, Jen Stark, Jennifer Steinkamp, Stan VanDerBeek, and James Whitney.

Abstract painting and moving pictures evolved simultaneously. Both represented modern times and a new world view. While painting was steeped in tradition and history, film, video, and computer technology have provided opportunities to imagine entirely new approaches to non-objective forms and to liberate the imagination.

In many ways, film and successive technologies achieved the physical and mechanical goals of 20th century abstract painters. One such goal was to equate abstraction with music whereas painters imagined composing the equivalent to music with color and form. Film, video, and computers made it possible to directly link abstract forms and color with their own musical orchestration. Spirituality inspired the compositions of many abstractionists, including filmmakers who created contemplative works that combined mystical light and the movement of symbols and mandalas. While many of the Abstract Expressionists painted large canvases in order to encompass the viewer, film projection made it possible to totally engulf the viewer in cinematic fields. New computer technology even makes it possible for viewers to directly intercede into the composition.

Montage and collage in painting suggest the simultaneity of events frozen in the momentary stasis of the canvas. The same technique is used by experimental filmmakers to suggest the elusiveness of time. As film, video and computer generated images can be infinitely looped, they are especially conducive to presenting the repetitive forms of serial minimalism. Many abstract painters of the 20th century aspired to achieve the appearance that the forms on their canvases were autonomous and self-generating. They created the illusion that the colors and forms were expanding, contracting, and pulsating forward and backward from the picture plane. Today, computer programs make it possible for artists to produce truly autonomous works that can determine their own morphing shape.

The experimental filmmakers of the early twentieth century invented techniques for creating their forms on celluloid. Painting or altering the celluloid required infinite patience and skill, as did the development of animation that used multiple cells to create movement or the methods for stop-action animation. Television presented new possibilities as artists manipulated images transmitted into the TV set or provided their own video footage, while computer technology has made it possible to animate virtual forms.

Early European Dadaist artists experimented with black and white cinema to create a new means of aesthetic experience. Hans Richter’s first film, Rhythmus 21 (1921-1924) used squares and rectangles to create a complex composition to play on ideas of perception, especially how light can create the illusion of movement and depth within the cinematic experience. Marcel Duchamp’s Anemic Cinema (1926), in collaboration with Man Ray, is also a study in perception. The film of spiraling discs alternates between hypnotic black-and-white discs that optically advance and recede and discs inscribed with verbal puns. Duchamp juxtaposed image with language in an era when silent films and written text went hand-in-hand.

In North America, advents in abstract animation led to developments with color and music, resulting in terminology such as visual music and optical poetry. Mary Ellen Bute’s Rhythm in Light (1934) premiered at Radio City Music Hall in New York and juxtaposed the music of Edvard Grieg’s Anitra’s Dance with kaleidoscopic geometry of photographic and hand-drawn imagery. Len Lye, a nationalized New Zealander, painted colors and scratched directly onto celluloid, resulting in such works as Color Box (1934), which established direct filmmaking as an important form of animation. Oskar Fischinger’s work has influenced generations of filmmakers. Beginning in 1920s Germany, this non-objective filmmaking master began creating visual music with geometric shapes tightly choreographed to classical music and jazz. He is widely known for his influence on the Disney classic Fantasia. Harry Smith’s hand-painted animations have been described as mystical cinematic experiences; with some works taking years to produce.

Major animators pioneering changes from hand to technological innovation show the parallel techniques of hand-craft, working directly on film, as technological advents in computers provided new potential for artistic production. California artist James Whitney, created the imagery in his hand-drawn film Yantra (1955) by punching grid-like patterns on 5 x 7 inch cards and using analog computer equipment developed by his brother, John Whitney, the pioneer of modern computer graphics, to create Lapis (1965), which consists of hundreds of constantly moving points of light. The works of Jordan Belson, another pioneer of visual music, include Allures (1961).

Stan VanDerBeek, who was fascinated with new languages, new structures of thought and new approaches to making art worked with computers and television. The work Symmetrics, 1972is a prime example of VanDerBeek’s lifelong interaction with computer and electronic imagery.

Bruce Nauman utilizes body performance as means toward abstraction. In Lip Sync (1968), a video camera turned upside down is positioned closely on the filmmaker’s face, which has been turned upside down, thereby transforming the sequence into abstraction. Nauman speaks the words of the work’s title as a continuous chant that is out of synchronization with the image. The repetition of the phrase transforms the words into abstract sound.

Nam June Paik, who pioneered cathode ray, video manipulation and analog distortion of television sets that play distorted analog images. On view in the exhibition are two of Paik’s works: Beatles Electroniques (1966-69) made in collaboration with Jud Yalkut features black-and-white bits from the movie A Hard Day’s Night to which Paik electromagnetically improvised distortions on the receiver. Also included is Paik’s sculpture Burn Calories Not Octane (1993), featuring thousands of clips of television broadcast that alternate with abstract patterns created by the artist.

Jeremy Blake’s Station to Station 1-5 (2001) is a series of five gridded time-based paintings (digital animations on DVD) that represents stations of an imaginary urban transportation system and travel between the stations. Cory Archangel’s Untitled (After Lucier), 2006, is a an image that degenerates over the course of the exhibition. The film displays the Beatles’ seminal US performance on the Ed Sullivan Show circa 1964. An exercise in impermanence, this endless silent loop of the performance continually degrades through a program that disrupts the clarity of the image until the entire work breaks down into a single monochrome color, falls apart and stops working.

By tapping directly into the structural aspects of computer programming as media C.E.B. Reas’s Process 16 (2006) explores the dialectical relationship between naturally evolved systems and those that are engineered and synthetic. Reas, who co-founded the Open Source software language ‘Processing’ with Ben Fry at MIT, derives his software from short text instructions explaining processes that define networks; the instructions are expressed in different media including natural language, machine code, computer simulations, and static images.

Constructed using old and new technologies, Kevin Medal’s As Pergill Us (2008), weaves thousands of hand-drawn images in a dazzling continuous morphology of luminous abstractions. In addition, Miami artist Jen Stark, whose work Streaming Gradient (2008), fuses time consuming work methods of the pioneers of experimental film with current digital technologies, creating an ever unfolding video of stunning beauty.

Jennifer Steinkamp’s computer generated installation, Smokescreen (1995-2004), creates the sensation that the viewer is walking between two layers of space. Jiae Hwang and Nicolas Raftis III’s new project, Metastability Mirror (2009), displays a mysterious work of atmospheric distortions and ghostly forms that constantly changes as the viewer approaches it.

Funkshion: Fashion Week Miami Beach
March 25-28 2009

Gen Art invites Producer Level members to the solo runway debut of KRELwear Fall 2009 Collection at Funkshion Fashion Week. Classic black and white is re-invented by expanding the fiber content to combine sustainable cotton, bamboo and metallic with recycled acrylics; modern stripes are juxtaposed with fiber contrast and hints of sparkle.

About KRELwear
KRELwear was launched as an innovative knitwear brand in 2004, at Gen Art’s Miami’s Fresh Faces in Fashion show, debuting its first collection of one-of-a-kind, hand-knit “deconstructed” dresses and separates made with ribbed and tubular knitting techniques- all executed in a wide array of yarn and texture combinations. Since its inception, KRELwear has cultivated an astonishingly loyal following, developing its line by combining minimal cuts with unique textiles, creative construction, and a mixture of fibers. Each season, the line is completely re-invented while maintaining sexy, yet sophisticated silhouettes.

Robin Rile Fine Art Opens Its Virtual Doors

The international fine arts concierge firm launches its new website

ROBIN RILE FINE ART has launched a new online gallery which specializes in the marketing of figurative and surrealist masters, Spanish Master Salvador Dali (1904-1989), Tristan Schane (New York), Erik Jones (New York), Travis Franklin (Sarasota), Boban (Serbia), Javier Suarez, Jr. (Sarasota) and the undiscovered Peruvian Master Estremadoyro (Lima). http://www.RobinRile.com

President Reed V. Horth spent 12 years developing innovations on the typical gallery model as clients would continually ask for specific artist, artwork and pieces. He became a “Fine Art P.I.” and focused solely on the “Virtual Gallery” model. Through his experience in the marketing and location of 20th Century Icons ROBIN RILE FINE ART has evolved into a Fine Art Concierge service.

“Just as another concierge would find tickets, cars or planes for you, I locate hard-to-find artwork,” says Horth. “The typical gallery model may not have the same sort of world-wide cache as we live in a much smaller world now. People want to feel that the dealer they work with can research and locate the perfect work for their collection no matter where in the world it might be.

“The new RobinRile.com is a state-of-the-art destination for new home buyers, designers, and those who seek to locate works from 20th century Icons such as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Julian Schnabel, Robert Indiana, Frederick Hart, Richard MacDonald and others.
Horth remarks, “Warren Buffett recently said ‘Invest when other’s are scared to invest. Only buy something you’d be perfectly happy to hold if the market shut down for 10 years’, well, Art qualifies”.
Robin Rile Fine Art is named in honor of Horth’s father (Robin V. Horth, Maj. ASAF (ret)) and grandfather (Rile V. Horth, SSgt, USMC (Deceased)) and owned and operated by Reed V. Horth.

The creation of a paradoxical surface of abstract landscapes seems to characterise the new pictorial research of Aline Jansen. This geographical sensitivity takes its place in a tradition of abstract art modelling where multiple references mark her active sense of inquiry.

Aline Jansen’s paintings not only inscribe geometric forms of the earth but also those of the cosmos, onto concepts of Euclidean and non-Euclidean spaces. In fact, at this very moment how should we look at the earth when from high above the sky it is being scanned and the image of which being digitised by high quality software such as Google Earth ? A shift in opinion which marks the beginning of a revolution in the way we see, similar to the early days we used perspective itself. A view from far or from close, to suit demand. And how are we to introduce and project the idea of a « Global Village » in a paiting ? A representation of the phenomenon globally against the uniqueness of creative talent or instead an attempt to make use of the technological advancement in one’s own pursuit. It is at the heart of this divergence that are founded the master pieces of this artist.
We have already brought up about her the notion of cartography since her paintings express two dimensional space while at the same time keeping a very close feel to the notion of volumes. There is thus a build up to an abstract landscape, referring itself not quite directly to nature but allowing room for an option to re-interpretation. Techniques that come into play such as the use of glue and cements combined with pigments and even more trivial materials like carton or cloths constitute her own vocabulary that gets translated into these colourful sedimentations. It’s in this manner that layer by layer the perception of this new world begins to take shape, in a framework of both slow and fast elaboration.
Small and large valleys, craters, hollows, hills and mountains and the likes, occur in such a lexical language of forms that allows the topology of a landscape to be defined. It is then left to the observer to simply travel through these series of shimmerings, to change position in the hope of finding a new vision or to continue the road ahead via the sandy beaches. Earthquakes, movements and overlapping of telluric plates, land slides and so on, bring about a new set of terminology describing earthly movements, allowing once more the esthetic art composition to find its equivalence with the planet. The pictured forms collide, overlap and combine with one another in sometimes gaceful and in other times violent movements, but always carried away by the composition of the plans. The usage of stabilised aqueous elements, similar to the vast frozen expanses, additionally facilitates following this embedding of such planetary lexical fields. For Aline Jansen, the true meaning lies in composing the mental landscapes in accordance to the tangible realities of the earth. These spatial arrangements get materially determined by the grace of the elements making it up. From the relation between the fibres of the ‘making’ of the picture and the possible imagination from each and every vision, will spring a potential landscape, almost moving and based on uncertainty.
In her paintings, the debris from each fabric mix themselves into fleeting impressions of new forms which are in themselves always uniquely repeatable. Writings where complex shapes adjust and result in random structures much to the likeness of landscapes. Working from memory, by invention, structured by the multiple possibilities inherent in the canvasses themselves. Just like a self evolving set up, put in place to seize and illustrate the observer’s own imagination. In the work of Aline Jasen, the multi dimensional spaces come together in harmony to marry into what we can eventually call « straight curves ».

Dr. Leonard Tachmes and Mr. Jorge J Hulian present, “Reveron’s Dolls.” Featuring photography by Luis Brito 3/28/09

Dr. Leonard Tachmes and Mr. Jorge J Hulian present, “REVERON’S DOLLS.” Featuring photography by LUIS BRITO

Opening: Saturday, March 28, 2009 7:30pm to 10pm.
Address: 3930 NW 2nd Ave, Miami, Florida 33127 (to the West of the Design District)

The retrospective exhibition of Venezuelan artist Armando Reverón at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York (February 11-April 15, 2007), has become an important reference worldwide.

The dolls made by Armando Reverón played a fundamental role in his creative process which is why one of them was included in the show presented at MoMA composed of more than one hundred works including paintings, drawings and objects.

Luis Brito, awarded with the National Photography Prize of Venezuela in 1997, was commissioned to photograph the dolls as a way to preserve the Reverón legacy. These dolls, handmade by the artist, were his models and companions; for Brito, the process did not flow easily since the dolls, which are seemingly unanimated objects, have a life of their own and express their anguish and will. Therefore, in Brito´s words “they simply did not give themselves to the camera”. He then decided to change their surroundings, and placed them in front of a black fabric and waited. Suddenly the dolls got the message of the artist- photographer and began to perform; they stopped being simple dummies and mutated their lifeless look into gestures. They allowed Brito to do what he knows best: explore into their deepness and extract the life they once had with Armando Reverón.

The photography show reveals a profound psychological study of Reverón´s work, visualizing the genius of an upholder of world visual arts, through the irreverent talent of Luis Brito. Also included in the show is the screening of an educational video on the careers and values of both creators. For more information

The Frost Art Museum
Presents
Nela Ochoa: Genetic Portraits

The Frost Art Museum at Florida International University will present Venezuelan artist Nela Ochoa: Genetic Portraits. The exhibit, opening April 17, 2009, will feature key pieces from Ochoa’s oeuvre, including Materia Gris Incompleta/Gray Matter Incomplete. Ochoa, a prolific and internationally recognized multi-media artist, works simultaneously and seamlessly in the areas of video art, sculpture, and performance to explore the genetic codes of human bodies.

“The Frost is a wonderful venue in which to bring art, science, medicine and research together in a multi-disciplinary forum and spark intellectual discourse,” said Dr. Carol Damian, director & chief curator of The Frost Art Museum.

Ochoa’s interest in the human body has led her to work with medical images such as X-rays and MRI’s, integrating them into videos, paintings and installations. Her most recent work has led her further into the body, where she explores the mysteries of DNA. Among the many awards Ochoa has garnered, most prominently, she has received the Premio de Arte No-Objetal, Salón Arturo Michelena, Valenciam, 1987 for the video-installation INVERNADERO.

The Frost Art Museum opened its current 46,000 square foot, state-of-the-art building in November 2008. Nearly 10,000 people have visited the The Museum in its new building since its opening. Admission to the museum is always free.

Nela Ochoa: Genetic Portraits will be opening along with Because I Say So Sculpture from the Collection of Dennis and Debra Scholl, The Kenan-Flagler Family Discovery Gallery and the Spring BFA show on April 17, 2009. Genetic Portraits will run through September 6, 2009.

2008 Oscar® Nominee, Best Documentary Feature!
Encounters at the End of the World
“Off the Map, Things Get Strange”
(Directed by Werner Herzog/2008)

There is a hidden society at the end of the world. One thousand men and women live together under unbelievably close quarters in Antarctica, risking their lives and sanity in search of cutting-edge science. Now, for the first time, an outsider has been admitted. In his first documentary
since Grizzly Man, Werner Herzog, accompanied only by his cameraman, traveled to Antarctica, with rare access to the raw beauty and raw humanity of the ultimate Down Under. Encounters
at the End of the World, Herzog’s latest meditation on nature, explores this land of Fire, Ice
and corrosive Solitude.
This screening is sponsored by NAPAPIJRI and includes a gift bag
and refreshments!
“You don’t necessarily have to hike though the Amazon (or Antarctica) to authentically wear Napapijri. The journey can be physical or psychological. Function has its root in the brand, but so does fashion.”-Steven Klick, South Beach Napapijri Store Manager

JOHN WATERS at the Lincoln Theater Miami Beach 5/1/09

Friday, May 1st 8pm

“An Evening with John Waters”
This Filthy World – Dirty & Filthier

The Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival & Edison Farrow are proud to present an evening with the iconic, irreverent, and deliciously twisted John Waters!

The man who brought us Hairspray, Pink Flamingos, and made Divine a cult-icon will take to the stage of the Lincoln Theater on South Beach for one-night only, in his first South Florida stage appearance in over a decade!

John Waters’ one-man show is a “vaudeville” act that celebrates the film career and obsessive tastes of the man William Burroughs once called “The Pope of Trash.” Focusing in on Waters’ early negative artistic influences and his fascination with true crime, exploitation films, fashion lunacy, and the extremes of the contemporary art world, this joyously devious monologue elevates all that is trashy in life into a call to arms to “filth followers” everywhere.

VIP TICKETS
VIP ticket holders will receive reserved prime seating in the orchestra pit, as well as admittance to a private Meet & Greet reception with John Waters. Tickets are limited and will sell out!

The Consulate General of Japan and Midori Gallery present “Triptych” The Narrative Art of Historical Japan 4/4/09

The Consulate General of Japan and Midori Gallery
Are pleased to present an unprecedented exhibition of a rare collection
“Triptych”
The Narrative Art of Historical Japan
wrestlers
Wrestlers – Umegataké & Sakaigawa, by Kuniaki, published 1878

The traditional Japanese woodblock print is an amazing, labor intensive art form in itself.
Even more remarkable is the assembling of three individual prints that further enhance
the artist’s voice to relate the heroic events, legends and celebrated aesthetics of his day.

In the creation of the triptych the artist must render each panel to be a complete image
unto itself that when linked with its companions tells the larger story. It is precisely this
ingenious capability that has caused the majority of the triptychs that have survived
over time to be separated and framed in households as individual works of art.

Shirley and Gilbert Luber were passionate collectors of the Japanese woodblock print
for over 30 years. Every year they spent one month in Japan searching and procuring
outstanding works for their collection. The Luber Collection of Antique Triptychs is
a rare opportunity to view this extraordinary art form through the experienced eye
of one of the world’s most discerning collectors.

The original 10 artists from the “Giants in the City” Miami 2008 Premier Exhibit – present sketches and designs in the project room that led up to final designs and large scale inflatable sculptures for the acclaimed exhibit. Artists will exhibit in the main gallery selected pieces from their own body of work that strengthens the historical significance of this grand experiment. The exercise was brought to life through charming doodles, complex scale models, and poetic renderings, all demonstrating the intellectual course from thought, to paper, to reality. The 10 artists of the Miami Premier are: Alejandro Mendoza, Alette Simmons-Jimenez, Angel Ricardo Rios, Anja Marais, Frank Hyder, Gustavo Acosta, John Martini, Jose Bedia, Michelle Weinberg, and Tomas Esson.

David Castillo Gallery
2234 NW 2nd Avenue, Miami
March 14 – April 4, 2009
Reception March 14, 7-10 pm
David Castillo Gallery is proud to present new work by Jackie Gendel and Tom McGrath. Jackie Gendel combines personal langauge, Art Historical reference, and cultural cues to create a place and time populated largely by symbolic women and feminized notions of abstraction. The work brings to bear the decadence of Ernst Ludwig Kirchner and Miss Haversham’s disquieting nostalgia. Gendel magnetizes oil paint, merging and estranging color, form, and a delirious but skeptical mode of expressionism. The ultimate effect of her alchemy is akin to being caught in a bad dream. The viewer floats like a Matisse subject through a psychological landscape rendered with careful ambiguity-an oxymoron that pushes Gendel’s mastery of her medium to transient ends. The viewer begins to doubt the innocuous round of a chin against chin modestly discernable beneath an otherworld of lemon chiffon. Who are these women? What do they want? How much of their effervescence is self-portraiture, how much is observation, and how much is paint finding paint on canvas?

Tom McGrath’s recent work hinges on the painted idiom between the personal and the societal. His gridded sky-views inspired by red-eye flights and lookout points along Los Angeles’s Mulholland Drive command a romanticism in the emotional contexts familiar to American cities and city-dwellers. The God- views imbibed by his large canvasses speak not only to the theme-park tourism of American Graffiti-esque make-out spots, but also to the Manifest Destiny apparent in American painting, real estate, and privilege. McGrath’s combination of neon and naturalist colors as well as the underlying irrationality of applied paint behind his grids suggests a wildness in opposition to imperialist thought in American sentiment and sustainability.

Jackie Gendel earned her MFA in Painting and Printmaking from Yale University. She has been an artist in residence at the MacDowell Colony and The Atlantic Center for the Arts. Her work has appeared in Art Papers, Art in America, and the New Yorker. Tom McGrath holds degrees from the Cooper Union School of Art and Columbia University. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, and has appeared in Artforum and Harper’s Magazine.

Shay Kun
Opportunities multiply as they are seized
David Castillo Annex
2234 NW 2nd Avenue, Miami
March 14 – April 4, 2009
Reception March 14, 7-10 pm

In the David Castillo Annex, Shay Kun’s Opportunities multiply as they are seized presents a spiritual almanac that unites Himalayan clefts and the shallows of the Hudson River School; a leisurely hot air balloon and the coveralls of industrial unionists; the Bobbsey twins and G.I. Joe. His oil on canvas works recall plein air painting, psychedelic exploration, and science fiction fanzines. Titles such as Put aside the alienation and Knowledge speaks, but wisdom listens allow space for the narrative voice of his landscapes to easily incorporate Grandma’s parabolic musings, calculated propaganda, and the script of an undiscovered Alejandro Jodorowsky film.

However, a prolonged look at Opportunities multiply as they are seized seems to suggest that despite the collage-like harmony of Kun’s imagery, Thomas Cole would shake his head at nature’s grandeur populated by human invaders-tourists, adventurists, and workers from all social strata. Although these interlopers and the traces of their occupation do not overwhelm the sublimity of nature, they do question the meaning of progress, the possibility of symbiosis, and whether the spiritual cognizance Cole and his colleagues ascribed to the outdoors stem from unadulterated nature alone.

Shay Kun earned an MA in Fine Art from Goldsmiths College, London. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally.

Mideo M. Cruz – Everything Must Go

Notions of self as nation are currently besieged, their inner gut work sucked out by a voracious globalist zeitgeist funded by large late capital. To cite a potential contribution to one’s national culture would have to be determinedly conceited on mine or Mideo’s part, but, if one might be able to determine such a lofty yet necessarily foundational category, then one would have to support those who have been consistent, bold and willing to sustain its thankless, uphill climb, for all that takes. Mideo Cruz has so far shown himself to be equal to this. The nationalist project of Social Realism in the Philippines, which began in 1975, has found, after the co-opted faltering of Salingpusa and untimely implosion of Sanggawa, an appropriate bridge into the 21st century’s vast, bewildering and fractured terrain in Mideo Cruz and his collective, the new world disorder. Jose Tence Ruiz

J. Valdivia – Ten-Selves

Artist Statement:

As a child I would gaze at other children as mysterious individuals. I have shifted that light onto myself to inspect my identity as a person. One’s body, gender, life paths, and death have all been preoccupations of mine. I’ve noticed a need to create identities accordingly with the yearning to be accepted. With that desire I have suffered, rejoiced, and grown thicker skin to bitterness. I find myself on a dividing path of choice in which we take leaps, steps and falls. With destination in mind similarly to one another, we stand alone within an objective psyche.

Fantastic New Paintings by RYAN HESHKA
March 14th, 7-11pm

NEW LOCATION
2294 NW 2nd Ave.
Miami, Florida 33127
(Wynwood Art District)

Ryan Heshka pays homage to Golden Era sci fi pulp while creating a style that is also uniquely his own. He explores themes of man vs nature, (even though often the “nature” is from another world) as well as the exploring the ideology of pushing the limits of science as a tool to help and further mankind, and the technological terrors that can be inadvertently unleashed as a result.

His newer series is also influenced by WW2 era propaganda posters, which demonized the enemy into an cartoonish and evil caricature. Is this case, the “enemy” really is an alien threat and deserving of such treatment!

His work is acrylic painted on wood panel, heavily varnished and embellished with tags cut from pulp magazines, which serve as inspiration and explanation of each piece.

Ryan’s work must be experienced in person, so please come to this special show and see our new location. Originals, Prints, Books, ect… will be available for every budget. See ya there!

Gallerist Eric Charest-Weinberg will be giving the students of the Miami Design District’s Design and Architecture Senior High School (DASH) their first big break. The best artwork done by juniors and seniors will be presented in an exhibition at the Charest-Weinberg Gallery (250 NW 23rd Street – Space 408) on March 14th, 2009, from 7 to 10 PM during the Wynwood Gallery Walk. All proceeds from sales of the work at this special event will go directly to the student artists.

Students featured in the exhibition include: Christopher Bender, Alejandro Cercas, Marcela Escobar, Victor Fernandez, Jasmine Nones-Newman, Lauren Robie, Paula Stevenson, Mei Fung Su, Danielle Zaslavskaya and Thomas Zenteno.

The 24-year old Charest-Weinberg, whose gallery is now celebrating its second season in the Wynwood Arts District, hand-selected the work of the ten students to be featured in this unique exhibition. “I wanted to do something that would directly benefit students that are looking towards art as their life’s work. Throughout my education, I had the benefit of tremendous access to the arts. It allowed to me to follow my passion. Giving these kids a real gallery exhibition and establishing them within the context of a curated show is a great opportunity to push them to follow their own.”

“It is not often that high school students are presented the chance to participate in a truly professional endeavor; especially in today’s competitive art world,” said DASH Principal Stacey Mancuso. “Mr. Charest-Weinberg recognizes these challenges and has responded by this creating this wonderful opportunity. I am honored that Eric has selected DASH as his venue for inquiry. The students are truly delighted to be associated with the exhibition.”

In addition to showcasing new work from the participating students, each artist has been asked to compose their own text to accompany the work that they will be displaying.

HOME Miami & Florida Travel + Life will be sponsoring this one night only event.

In addition, the Charest-Weinberg Gallery has partnered with a number of local business who have agreed to donate to this exhibition including: Impress Digital Printing Solutions impressmiami.com, Clic::Studio Photography clicstudio.com and USA Frame usaframe.com.

Donated Art Aids Exhibition Program Purchase a ticket for a chance to win the above artwork by visiting www.becagallery.com

BECA gallery | New Orleans has been the fortunate recipient of a very generous gift which offers the opportunity to continue the gallery’s exhibition program in New Orleans dedicated to providing exhibition opportunities to innovative emerging artists + designers from around the globe. This gift also gives art enthusiasts the opportunity to win a beautiful work of art valued at $3,600 USD for the price of a $5 USD ticket! To aid the gallery, one of its earliest and most enthusiastic supporters has graciously donated to the gallery the gift of the beautiful photographic work titled, ‘Red Deer – Bibliotheque German Parliament – Berlin’ by renowned London based artists Maslen & Mehra. The work is Limited Edition No. 3 of 5, Durst Lambda print on aluminum and silicon mounted acrylic (pictured above). This work and the artists were first introduced to the southern United States last April during BECA gallery’s group exhibition “MIRROR for the 21st Century” with guest curator, Helen Pheby, PhD.

BECA gallery will hold an Art Drawing for “Red Deer – Bibliotheque German Parliament – Berlin” to hopefully prevent the end of their exhibition program which has proven to be beneficial to many

within the local, national and international arts communities. Within its first year of 2008 alone, BECA gallery has given exhibition opportunities to 91 local, national and international emerging artists via its physical gallery space in New Orleans as well as here on-line. Maslen & Mehra “engage in a powerful dialogue on the natural and human world in which we live”. When their work arrived at the gallery, Roberts and Schlough were captivated by the beautifully staged narrative scenes within their photographs and their choice of landscapes and architectural settings from around the world. Their placement of reflective sculptural silhouettes within these environments results in a glimpse into a possible parallel universe as suggested by art critic and art historian Edward Lucie-Smith. Additional images and information on Maslen & Mehra may be found here and here, respectively.

The opportunity to win this piece valued at $3,600 USD via this Art Drawing is very rare and would not have happened if not for the generosity of a fellow art lover. In addition, BECA gallery wishes to thank artists Maslen & Mehra who have generously donated a copy of their first monograph titled, ‘MIRRORED’ highlighting their many years of collaborative practices and unique works which have brought them international critical recognition, as a secondary prize for this Art Drawing. The hardcover monograph is 184 pages including 120 color photographs. One winning ticket will be drawn for the artwork and a second winning ticket will be drawn for the monograph. Anyone from any country may purchase tickets. The ticket price is $5 USD per ticket and you may purchase as many tickets as you wish either here online or at the gallery location at 527 St. Joseph Street, New Orleans, LA 70130. You may also mail your ticket purchase made payable to BECA gallery to the aforementioned address. (Much better odds than the lottery and it aids a great emerging art exhibition program!) ‘Red Deer – Bibliotheque German Parliament – Berlin’ is currently on view at BECA gallery. On March 15th, one lucky winner’s name will be drawn to become the new owner of this beautiful artwork and we will also randomly draw a second lucky winner’s name to be the recipient of the Maslen & Mehra monograph ‘MIRRORED’.

If shipment outside of New Orleans is required, BECA gallery will share equally with the winner in the costs of the least expensive shipping method. Any costs associated with the exporting or importing of these prizes abroad will be the responsibility of the winner. THANK YOU ALL in advance for purchasing tickets and for helping to spread the word about this Art Drawing.

MDPL presents Frank Sinatra (and the Cardozo Hotel) in “A Hole in the Head” 3/14/09

FILMS AT THE LIBRARY
Saturday 14 March
11:00 am

MADE IN MIAMI BEACH
Join us for a series of films that are set (and substantially filmed) in Miami Beach in the 1940s and 50s. These films feature great directors, compelling performances, and glamorous (and not so glamorous!) hotels in Miami Beach’s golden years.

A Hole in the Head
Directed by Frank Capra
USA/1959/120 minutes/Color

Like most of director Frank Capra’s films, this film is an observant portrait of the fighting man and his repressive surroundings, but Capra offers a variation of the theme by revealing the obstacles as self-made. Tony Manetta (Frank Sinatra) is a gambler and womanizer, who blows his money at the first opportunity and now faces eviction and loss of his business (an Ocean Drive hotel known in the film as the “Garden of Eden” – but in real life the Cardozo Hotel). Complicating his worries is his young son who lives with him. Despite their troubles, they want to stick together, because they’re not only a family, but also a team. Free admission.

Miami Fashion Week 2009 International Culinary Arts Pavilion 3/19-20/09

11TH ANNUAL MIAMI FASHION WEEK® TO SHOWCASE
GLOBAL Cuisine AT FIRST INTERNATIONAL CULINARY ARTS PAVILION
Nightly Tastings Feature Haute Cuisine Representing Designers’ Countries

The largest event in the country spotlighting international fashion hits the runways in Miami when designers, entertainers and celebrities from around the globe take part in the 11th annual Miami Fashion Week®, March 19 through March 22. Making its debut at this year’s Miami Fashion Week® is the International Culinary Arts Pavilion — a fashionable feast occurring nightly under the design direction of a different celebrity chef who will create cuisine inspired by the native countries of the fashion designers being showcased that night. Accompanying the tasting menus will be wine pairings by Italian vineyard Casa Vinicola Zonin. The International Culinary Arts Pavilion is being presented by Whole Foods Market, Johnson & Wales University, and A Joy Wallace Catering Production and Design Team.

Thursday night, March 19, Elgin Woodman, Chef de Cuisine, A Joy Wallace Catering Production and Design Team, will be creating a tasting menu featuring native tastes from the Caribbean, including South Florida favorites. A native of Lima, Peru, Chef Woodman received her Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management from Florida International University in 1993. In 1997, she joined A Joy Wallace and she was recently a featured chef in a new cookbook titled “Inside the Recipe Box of the Catering Chef.” She was also named as one of three finalists for the International Caterer’s Association’s Chef of the Year for 2008.
Friday, March 20, the International Culinary Arts Pavilion travels to the Dominican Republic and South America with James Beard Award finalist Chef Edgar Leal from Cacao Restaurant. Chef Leal began his career as an apprentice cook under the guidance of Chef Marc Provost at Gazebo Restaurant in his native Caracas, Venezuela. After a series of impressive accomplishments throughout Europe, Chef Leal opened Cacao in Coral Gables in October 2002, with his wife Mariana Montero De Castro, Chef de Cuisine and Patissier of the restaurant. Cacao Restaurant was named Best New Restaurant by Food & Wine, Florida Trend Magazine and The Miami Herald, and Coral Gables’ Most Accomplished Restaurant by Wine Spectator. Chef Leal has been featured by The New York Times, Time Magazine and has appeared on NBC’s “Today Show.” In 2007, Cacao was named one of America’s top 10 restaurants in Miami/South Florida by Zagat’s Restaurant Survey.

During a trip to Miami in 1998, she met her soon-to-be-husband, Tim Hogle, the owner of Tantra Restaurant. In the decade since, Korneeva-Hogle has hired, supervised, advised and worked side-by-side with the some of the top chefs in Miami, and now holds the Executive Chef position at Tantra Restaurant.

Executive Chef Nate Martin from Andu Restaurant takes over Sunday night with his tasting menu honoring Spain. A native of Dallas, Chef Martin worked under the tutelage of some of the nation’s top chefs in both Dallas and New York before landing at Pearl and Nikki Beach where he was sous chef for three years before moving over to 8½ in The Clinton Hotel as chef de cuisine. With the February 2008 opening of Andú Restaurant & Lounge in downtown Miami’s Brickell area, Chef Martin oversees the kitchen and executes an eclectic menu of Mediterranean cuisine with international influences.

FIU Honors College Students Curate the Aesthetics and Values Exhibition 2009

March 16 – April 10, 2009

Reception – April 3, 2009 Followed by a Lecture by artist, Ann Hamilton

MIAMI – The Aesthetics & Values class of the Honors College at Florida International University (FIU) presents the Aesthetics and Values Exhibition 2009, an annual exhibition that is executed solely by students within the class under the supervision of artist and Professor John Bailly. Opening on March 16, 2009, the show will run until April 10 in the Gallery at the Green Library (2nd floor) at FIU and will showcase established Miami artists. On April 3 from 5 to 8 p.m., the students will host a reception for the A&V 2009 exhibition. This A&V 2009 reception will be followed by the Frost Art Museum’s Steven & Dorothea Green Critics’ Lecture Series at 8 p.m.. The April 3 lecture is by Ann Hamilton, an internationally recognized visual artist creating large scale multi media installations.

The annual exhibition provides students with the opportunity to demonstrate their resourcefulness and creativity through the research, curation, and organization of an on-campus exhibition of contemporary Miami artists. After forming committees (Exhibition, Fundraising, and Public Relations) and assuming personal tasks (designing a website, soliciting funds, preparing a press release, etc), students are responsible for coordinating all aspects of the exhibition, including selecting artists, securing funding, negotiating gallery space, working with university administration, and managing local media. Images are available upon request.

The Gallery at the Green Library is located at 11200 S.W. 8th Street, Miami, FL 33139.

The exhibition will be open Monday to Thursday from 7:30 a.m. until 1a.m., Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 10:00 p.m., Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 a.m. For more information please visit the website at www.avexhibition.org or contact John Bailly at 305-348-0297.

And like the city where he was born in, Ferrara and his films are true diamonds in the rough; solid and often crude, at times brutal, yet always true, heart-felt and full of grace.

6th Annual Everglades Awareness Benefit Concert at Tobacco Road hosted by Ploppy Palace Productions 3/21/09

6th ANNUAL FLORIDA EVERGLADES BENEFIT
SATURDAY, MARCH 21ST
features THE COFFEE HOUSE GYPSIES

Currently, the Everglades is one of the most threatened natural habitat in the western hemisphere. Residential development, water management and agricultural use have shifted natural water patterns and have altered the vitality of the ecosystem. With an alarming number of people moving into South Florida every year, we need to come together and help to protect the Everglades for our survival.

On Saturday, March 21, 2009 Ploppy Palace Productions and Tobacco Road will be hosting a concert to raise awareness and funds for the Hold The Line Campaign and for Everglades protection. As part of this four stage extravaganza, some of South Florida’s top bands, spoken word artists and community activists will join together to raise awareness for this vital natural resource.

The Coffee House Gypsies (winners of NINE Status QuO South Florida Indie Live Music Awards last December) will perform at 4:30 PM. There will also be a broad variety of musical styles including jazz, rock, folk, blues, traditional Peruvian, vocal harmonies, melodic keyboards, Latin, funk, experimental, tribal rhythms, world beat fusion, psychedelic grooves and various interactive jams. Local folk legend, Valerie Wisecracker is also in the lineup of performers.

In addition, Linx, Anibal Fernandez, and other creative artists will be rendering live art demonstrations and there will be a DVD slide show from the Everglades Art Exhibition. Conservation advocates from Miami Sierra Club will be speaking about their involvement in the Hold The Line Campaign. Other speakers will include Mario Yanez from Earth Learning, Ray Scattone from the F.I.U. Dept. of Environmental Studies, Dawn Shirreffs from Clean Water Action as well as a selection of special guests.

Clean Water Action, Artists for Community Evolution, F.I.U. Dept. of Environmental Studies and other community organizations will have information booths with handouts and contacts to help educate about social issues and the environmental risk that threatens the natural balance of the Everglades. The event will work to raise funds and awareness for the Hold The Line Campaign and support efforts by a selection of various organizations.

There will be vendors and small businesses promoting and selling their merchandise, including The Wallflower Gallery, Sergio Torres, Progressive Rags, Between Spirit & Stone Jewelry, and selected independent corporations.

The 6th Annual Everglades Awareness Benefit Concert is sponsored by Ploppy Palace Productions, Atlas Audio Productions, Anamaze Productions, 7th Circuit Productions, Cymbal Outfitters, Mystic Cat Productions, Antidote Productions, Online Gigs.com, Music Art Love, and The Wallflower Gallery.

6th Annual Everglades Awareness Benefit Concert will take place Saturday, March 21, 2009, from 4:00 p.m. – 3:00 a.m. at Tobacco Road (626 South Miami Avenue, Brickell/Miami, FL 33130). 21 Years Old + with ID. Admission is $ 12. Venue contact number is: 305-374-1198

Reception for Autocycles by Matt Carone 3/6/09

Autocycles by Matt Carone
ArtSpace Virginia Miller Galleries
cordially invites you to our opening reception
Reception:
Friday, March 6th
7 – 10 pm
Location:
ArtSpace Virginia Miller Galleries
169 Madeira Avenue
Coral Gables, FL 33134

“Autocycles,” The latest twists in the lifelong evolution of paintings by Matt Carone will open at ArtSpace/Virginia Miller Galleries at 7 p.m. Friday, Mar. 6th.

Largely inspired by his 45-year friendship with the famed Chilean painter Roberto Matta, Carone’s paintings recently took a turn toward a more patterned abstraction.

According to the artist, the new subtly toned works “seem to be an opening of a new door of automatism.
“The approach is similar to the past works but the image is arrived at more spontaneously and graphically,” Carone says. “Subconscious symbols and rhythmic gestures relating to each other or canceling each other out seem to be the building blocks to the final statement

“The seed,” he acknowledges, “was planted by Matta.”

Like the abstract expressionists, Carone seeks “a spontaneous image as a consequence of a gesture…dictated more by the subconscious than by a rational, disciplined procedure.”

Carone became interested in art as an adolescent during the summer of 1944, when he was asked to model for Hans Hoffman. His older brother, the well-known painter Nicolas Carone, was studying with Hoffman.

Through his brother and years of involvement in art, Carone has had a close association with many of the era’s most famous artists and critics, including Conrad Marca-Relli, James Brooks, Paul Jenkins, Sandro Chia, Larry Rivers, Balcolm Greene, James Rosenquist, Duane Hanson, Thomas Hoving, Clement Greenberg and many others.

His extensive professional biography lists one-person exhibitions in such museums as the Fort Lauderdale Museum of Art, the Boca Raton Museum, Don and Dottie Jacobs Gallery at Georgetown College, Kentucky, and the Palazzo Panni Museum in Arco di Trento, Italy, along with numerous leading private galleries.

Paintings by Carone are included in the permanent collections of Bard College at Simon’s Rock, in Great Barrington, Massachusetts; Bass Museum, Miami Beach, Florida; Boca Raton Museum of Art, Boca Raton, Florida; Fort Lauderdale City Hall, Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Hoover Collection, Albion College, Albion, Michigan; Illinois State Museum, Springfield, Illinois; Iona College, New Rochelle, New York; Lowe Art Museum, Coral Gables, Florida; Federica Matta; Ramuntcho Matta; Roberto Matta; Museum of Art, Fort Lauderdale, Florida; North American Rockwell Corporation;

Firebird, Acrylic on Paper, 13 x 9 3/4 inches, 2008

Palazzo Panni Museum, Arco di Trento, Italy; Peabody Museum, Nashville, Tennessee; Rahr-West Art Museum, Manitowoc, Wisconsin; Simon’s Rock College of Bard, Great Barrington, Massachusetts; Syracuse University, Syracuse, New York; and the Virginia Center for The Creative Arts, Mt. San Angelo, Virginia.

Located in the heart of the Coral Gables business district at 169 Madeira Avenue, ArtSpace/Virginia Miller Galleries is Greater Miami’s longest-established contemporary fine art gallery. It is open to the public from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. A virtual tour of the exhibition may be seen at www.virginiamillercom.

Empfangshalle with Thomas Adebahr The Benjamin Project at Gallery Diet 3/14/09

EMPFANGSHALLE with Thomas Adebahr
The Benjamin Project

March 14th – April 4th 2009
Opening Reception March 14th 7 – 10 PM

Gallery Diet is pleased to announce the latest exhibition in its invitational series, The Benjamin Project by German collaborative, Empfangshalle and Thomas Adebahr. The artists, whose work has been exhibited globally at prestigious events and institutions such as the 52nd Venice Biennial and Ars Electronica in Linz, Austria, will be exhibiting for the first time in Miami, Florida. The Benjamin Project, which consists of a series of large oil paintings, and one documentary video, is rooted in the critique and exploration of what is and what can be considered “original.” In Dafen, China, the world’s capital city for copying works of art, Empfangshalle has commissioned artists to make paintings derived from every double page of Walter Benjamin’s essay, “The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction.” 38 paintings in total where every letter, the fine structure of the paper, the way the lines shimmer through on the other side, the fold and other details, are recorded by the Chinese artists – each in his or her own way. Every work is created by a different workshop, a different painter, every painting marked with the painter’s unique signature.
Also on view, an excerpt from the documentary film chronicling this process. Empfangshalle is comprised of two artists, Corbinian Böhm and Michael Gruber, who for this project worked alongside German filmmaker Thomas Adebahr. This exhibition will be on view from March 14th thru April 4th 2009 at Gallery Diet with an opening reception March 14th from 7 – 10 p.m.

Artoconecto is excited to present painter Robert F. Merton’s first solo exhibition ‘Temperatures’, on Thursday, April 9, 2009, for a sneak VIP preview, followed by an exhibition open to the public on Saturday, April 11, at The Buena Vista Building in Miami’s Design District. The painter, who resides in the colder climes of New England, in the seaside village of Cohasset, will unveil his exciting new work in the tropical climate of Miami, where his work has received considerable early attention. His vibrant work, like his family name, demands historical perspective-his grandfather, Robert K. Merton, was a groundbreaking sociologist, who coined terms like ‘self-fulfilling prophecy’, and ‘unintended consequences’. His father, Robert C. Merton, won a Nobel Prize in economics in 1997 for his work on a new method to determine the value of derivatives. And his own study of 15th-17th century European history, when a human-powered economy evolved into a mechanized economy (and a mechanized society), has influenced his understanding of the transitions through which society and its members must evolve. “The transition period is what interests me,” says Merton. “We are in an era of change, and we must embrace that.”
Perhaps the natural progression of generations, from preeminent sociologist, to Nobel Prize winner, to visual artist, to whatever the future may bring for the youngest Merton, his son, Robert A. Merton, not only defines Robert F. Merton’s work, but bestows upon it its enduring resonance. “Not everything has an immediate ’cause and effect’. But everything in the past has an effect on the present.” Through his exacting work he alludes to the creative sweep of time; but Merton remains firmly rooted in the present, while acknowledging the ever-evolving and challenging journey towards our future.
Artoconecto, the dynamic arts non-profit based in Miami is adding a new layer to its mission statement of promoting emerging artists with Robert F. Merton’s Temperatures, by providing one artist with the tools to prepare for their first solo exhibition. “We would like to be able to create the first solo show for artists whose work we believe in; and who also have the drive, the talent and completed works ready to exhibit, but have not yet been approached or selected by a commercial gallery”, says Alexandra Rangel-Brody, Executive Director for Artoconecto, which has been operating since 1999 in Washington, D.C.
Robert F. Merton’s Temperatures is made possible by the generous support of Ms. Cosette Alves, President and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of The Inter-American Culture and Development Foundation and the support of Dacra. For more information, please visit www.robertfmerton.com
