Join Girls’ Club for a double feature of works from the collection by multi-disciplinary artists Jeanne Jaffe and Jen Clay.

View the premiere of Jeanne Jaffe’s Alice in Dystopia, a stop motion animation short film based on the classic novel Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. In Jaffe’s dystopian tale, Alice and The Rabbit travel through the wrong rabbit hole and find themselves in a dark and destructive future. Through a mix of marionettes, live action, shadow puppetry and archival footage, Alice searches for meaning while encountering versions of the smoking Caterpillar, the author Lewis Carroll, an extinct Dodo bird and others.

Jen Clay’s film Episode combines performative sculpture, multiple types of animation and live action footage to illustrate a first person view of a dissociative episode for the viewer. Clay’s multi-media works often involve original textiles and animations for performance, video and installation that take inspiration from horror and science fiction genres, author H.P. Lovecraft stories of cosmic madness, and actual accounts of hallucinations and supernatural sightings.

The screening will be followed by an artist talk and Q&A.

All guests must bring and wear face masks while indoors.
Parking is available on NE 2 Avenue and Flagler Avenue. RSVP in the website link.

This is our way of celebrating our great and talented artists both on stage and off—and it’s a gig in the pandemic!

Miami Swim Week is officially here, designers from all over the world will exhibit their designs at Swim Week 2021 powered by Art Hearts Fashion. Creative Director and C.E.O of House of Skye, Skye Yayoi Drynan will showcase her functional and fashionable “Sexyback Bra” on July 11th at 10 pm at The Faena Forum in Miami Beach.

The must-have bra can be styled in over 12 ways, making it the most versatile undergarment in the world. The sexy and functional bra is freeing women from the classic strapless or sticky bras that have become popular on social media. Owner and Designer, Skye Drynan created a one-of-a-kind bra for all women, from the light to busty ladies perfect for any occasion. The SexyBack Bra has 22 tabs that provide a variety of bra styles at your fingertips. Easily switch styles by moving the bra hooks to adjust to any dress or top style. Skye, has been an inventor and in the biotech industry for decades, this is why she sought to fill the void in “backless bras”. As the visionary behind House of Skye, the self-made Skye Drynan looks to fuse her invaluable experience as an entrepreneur and inventor with her taste for high fashion to deliver the function and versatility that women need in fashion. Rooted in luxury, the House of Skye brand offers thoughtfully couture design, unrivaled craftsmanship, and the utmost quality.

Her journey began in 2016 when she gave up on all the current fad bras and custom bras you would see in stores. Avoiding wardrobe malfunctions like a silicone pasted bra slipping away in the middle of the night, she began designing a sexy, fashionable, and comfortable bra, one that would hold in all the right places all while allowing for the perfect look while wearing backless dresses or tops. Although she has designed and patented the most versatile bra in the world, Skye comes from humble beginnings. From waiting tables and bartending to working her way up the corporate ladder on Wall Street in the ’90s, to being in the forefront of genetics, and later funding some of the world’s biggest medical breakthroughs, Skye’s track record shows nothing short of success.

“When I began this journey I wanted to engineer the perfect backless bra for my girlfriends and I,“ Said Skye Yayoi Drynan, Designer and C.E.O of House of Skye, “ However, in the process, I realized there was a huge void to be filled in the industry, fast forward 5 years later, we have the most revolutionary and versatile bra with 7 patents 2 for its utility and 5 for its design in over 111 countries, came to life! ” Skye says.

The collection is launching this weekend at Miami Swim Week, July 11, 2021, at 10 PM. The House of Skye “Transformer Sexy Bra” collection will feature 6 designs from nude, black, a sexy snakeskin to luxurious rose gold, all showcasing its various use, from backless to one shoulder, to everyday wear.

My State MLS, the first nationwide Multiple Listing Service of its kind with agents in all 50 states and Puerto Rico, is hosting free webinars in July, August and September for real estate professionals looking to grow their career and market their listings with an MLS that caters to their specific needs.

The webinars will introduce real estate professionals to My State MLS’s new features, including MLS Affiliate and MH Authority. It will also show attendees how to create video content with Facebook Live. The September webinars will give the audience a refresher on real estate basics, including how to market themselves and how to expand their business.

All webinars take place on Thursdays from 2-3 p.m. ET. Please see the webinar schedule and registration details below:

What is MH Authority? – July 22, 2-3 p.m. ET
Among a shortage of affordable housing options, buyers are increasingly turning to mobile and manufactured homes. However, most consumer real estate websites treat manufactured housing as an afterthought, and sites that are built for mobile/manufactured listings are outdated and riddled with inaccurate listings. That’s why My State MLS created MH Authority, the ultimate consumer-facing source for mobile/manufactured listings. It’s time to make the manufactured housing process easier for buyers, sellers, and professionals. David Mink, operations manager and national trainer for My State MLS, will be the moderator.

Going Live – Introduction to Facebook Live for Real Estate – Aug. 5, 2-3 p.m. ET
Creating video content is no longer an optional boost to a marketing strategy – it’s critical for success. Videos receive better social media engagement, increase email open rates, and can even improve SEO. With live streaming services like Facebook Live, real estate professionals don’t even need fancy gear or a lengthy script to get started. David Mink, operations manager and national trainer for My State MLS, will be the moderator.

Dear Dave – Advice for Your (Customer) Relationships – Aug. 19, 2-3 p.m. ET
Join My State MLS for sizzling tips on how to keep cool while trying to win new listings, ride the wave of showings and buyer inquiries and heat up your marketing strategy for the best summer yet. David Mink, operations manager and national trainer for My State MLS, will be the moderator.

Back to School Series – 2-3 p.m. ET
This September, it’s time to go back to school. Join My State MLS live every Thursday at 2 p.m. ET to brush up on the basics. Attendees will learn how to take their real estate career to the next level.
Sept. 2 – Continuing Education (CE) and Beyond: David Mink, operations manager and national trainer for My State MLS, will be the moderator.
Sept. 9 – Becoming A Broker: David Mink, operations manager and national trainer for My State MLS, will be the moderator.
Sept. 16 – Marketing Yourself: Amanda Sternklar, marketing director for My State MLS, will be the moderator.
Sept. 23 – Expanding Your Business: David Mink, operations manager and national trainer for My State MLS, will be the moderator.

Sometimes, inspiration is slow in coming, evasive, and stubborn. Other times, if an artist is very fortunate, it simply flows, the music practically writing itself. That’s how Solid, the latest release from Boney James came to be. “This record really flowed at an unusually quick pace,” Boney says. “There was a lot of positive energy in making this music. Solid is a very upbeat record. As I was writing them, these songs put a smile on my face.” Solid is the four-time Grammy-nominated saxophonist’s 17th album as a leader. Solid follows up his smash 2017 release Honestly, which became his 11th #1 Billboard Contemporary Jazz Album.

“My favorite singer….” Tony Bennett

Ever since he burst on the jazz scene in the latter part of the twentieth century, The Brooklyn-born, Harlem-based vocalist/guitarist/bandleader/composer Allan Harris has reigned supreme as the most accomplished and exceptional singer of his generation. Aptly described by the Miami Herald as an artist blessed with, “the warmth of Tony Bennett, the bite and rhythmic sense of Sinatra, and the sly elegance of Nat ‘King’ Cole,” the ample and aural evidence of Harris’ moving and magisterial artistry can be heard on his fourteen recordings as a leader; his far-flung and critically-acclaimed concerts around the world, from Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York, and Washington DC’s Kennedy Center, to the 2012 London Olympics, and many prestigious bookings in Europe, The Middle East and Asia. “I’m a storyteller through the genre of jazz.”

It’s America’s big day and we’re here for it. It’s time to take a break from the grill this year and join Wynwood’s favorite bar and restaurant, Le Chick. Known for its true world-class burger experience and cozy bar vibe, Le Chick is the perfect place to celebrate this special holiday. Fourth of July calls for casual, crowd-pleasing dishes, and nothing says summer like a good ol’ burger, especially an award-winning one. The menu at Le Chick is all about elevated comfort food, so of course, their burgers hit the spot. While beef patties and American cheese are a classic combination, Le Chick’s homemade rolls, and special sauce sure make this burger an extravagant, and must-try staple item from their menu. In celebration of the Fourth of July, guests can enjoy a sinful, juicy burger such as their fan-favorite Royale with Cheese or the Double Dirty, with Dry-aged Brisket 3oz double patties, bacon, cheddar, fried egg, tomato, lettuce, house pickles, secret sauce. Wash it all down with Le Chick’s hand-crafted cocktails or beer selection to top off your meal.

His mother, pianist Vera Eubanks was Kenny Barron’s first piano teacher and a professional church pianist; his brothers, renowned trombonist, Robin Eubanks and guitarist, Kevin Eubanks, former bandleader of the “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno”; as well as his uncle, legendary pianist Ray Bryant all contributed to his early music education. He has performed everywhere from the Hollywood Bowl to Carnegie Hall to the Kennedy Center. At SMDCAC, he will perform songs from his highly listenable album “Things of That Particular Nature.”

Locust Projects presents Hidden in Plain View, the seventh edition of the LAB MFA summer exhibition program featuring Victoria Ravelo, MFA candidate at the Tyler School of Art and Architecture, Temple University.

Ravelo will be in residence June 1-30, during which time she will transform the storefront Mobile Studio into a working laboratory in which she will create sugar sculptures daily. The use of sugar references the ties of the local community to the Caribbean and the impact the sugar industry has had on the Caribbean as well as its historical significance and influence globally. Although initially only available to those in the ruling class and used as an opulent display of wealth, sugar evolved to become so accessible that those outside of this class developed their own traditions associated with it that continue today.

The finished collaboratively-created installation, on view from July 1 through August 7, serves as an archive of local memory and maps the cultural landscape of Miami’s diverse communities through space and time.

Locust Projects presents Rhythm of Speech, a new experimental audiovisual installation by Miami-based artist and musician Juan Ledesma. Ledesma’s first solo presentation draws connections between diverse musical traditions and our collective lived experiences by exploring the musical potential of spoken accents.

Ledesma’s artistic practice is in constant dialogue with his music-making and seeks to identify how space, time, and sound can materially relate to one another through process-driven explorations. For Rhythm of Speech, the artist invited three Miami-based musicians to create a musical score based on a linguistic analysis of their respective accents. Although accents are commonly considered linguistic indicators of nationality, cultural upbringing, or socio-economic background, Ledesma aims to reframe language as a collective repository of sounds that can be used towards creative musical compositions.

Locust Projects presents Homeline, a new site-specific installation by mutlidisciplinary artists Tal Amitai-Lavi and Tal Frank.

Homeline is inspired by the architectural structures of Locust Projects’ Main Gallery. The installation is composed of three domestic elements created out of unexpectedly weightless materials, including light and delicately-installed nylon strings- a window that separates the space, a projected carpet, and a slowly flowing curtain. These objects generate a succinct, close-knit architectural-sculptural setting in black and white. The installation explores reflections, inversions, illusions, and space disruptions and creates an illusionistic, dreamlike environment. Viewers are confronted by their perception and senses, entering a world whose foundations are fragile, in which life-sized architectural structures have lost their functionality and expected physicality.

History Fort Lauderdale’s “Meet the Author” Zoom Series Featuring Dr. Joe Knetsch 7/8/21

History Fort Lauderdale’s “Meet the Author” Zoom Series Featuring Dr. Joe Knetsch
Thursday, 07/08/2021-, 12:00 pm-01:00 pm
Website
Cost: Free, live interactive Zoom session

History Fort Lauderdale, proud steward of our community’s past by making our heritage accessible and engaging to residents and visitors, will feature Florida historian Dr. Joe Knetsch on the next July 8 noon segment of its “Meet the Author” interactive Zoom series. The new free series takes place on the second Thursday of each month. Viewers may register at http://bit.ly/HFLMeetTheAuthorKnetsch.

Knetsch is the co-author with Pamela Gibson of the recently released Florida in World War I (Arcadia Publishing/The History Press, ISBN: 978-1467148290), a historical deep dive into the role a sparsely populated and largely rural Florida played as America plunged into World War I. The book delves into the state’s sacrifices and contributions with a look at its naval accomplishments – the proud USS Florida, too often mentioned as a mere adjunct to the Atlantic Fleet, receives a just accounting, as does the utterly devastating loss of the USS Tampa, the highest death toll the navy suffered in the war. Sunshine State foresters served critical roles abroad, and local libraries became essential hubs for promoting rationing and reporting news from overseas. Floridian aid workers and soldiers training for departure were stricken with the Spanish flu, a pandemic that shook the globe with force equal to the war itself.

Dr. Joe Knetsch is the author of more than 200 articles and 12 books concerning Florida history. This is his sixth book for Arcadia/The History Press and covers an area in which he has a strong interest. He has been a constant reviewer of military history books for the Journal of America’s Military Past and other professional journals. He holds a doctorate from Florida State University and, for 28 years, was the historian for the Division of State Lands, Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Since his retirement, he has continued to research and publish history. He lives in Tallahassee with his wife, Linda, and their five cats. Knetsch’s works are available through amazon.com and www.arcadiapublishing.com.

Knetsch joins novelist Y.M. Masson, architect and historic preservation consultant Arthur Jay Marcus, historian John Bailey, plus authors Kingsley Guy and Donn R. Colee, Jr. as part of History Fort Lauderdale’s prestigious “Meet the Author” series, a chance to converse with Florida-based writers, launched in February. Upcoming novelists will be announced.

History Fort Lauderdale is currently open seven days a week, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., with docent guided tours, daily, at 1, 2 and 3 p.m. Group walking tours are available upon special request. Admission is $15 for adults; $12 for seniors and $7 for students (through age 22 with a valid student ID). Admission is free for members, military and children ages six and under. Tickets are available online at HistoryFortLauderdaleTickets.

By 17, Forman was receiving commissions. Primarily a self-taught artist, Forman’s work is the result of dedicated practice. He uses field sketches, plein air paintings, and photographs to compose his pieces that are painted in layers with both knife and brush. He creates his landscapes to portray the splendor and simplicity of the natural world around us. Through his work, Tim seeks to lift the spirits and inspire awe above our day-to-day lives.

North Beach Bandshell, Miami Beach
Presentando por Asho Productions & Rhythm Foundation!

About Timbalive:

Timbalive is one of the largest and most successful groups of Timba in the United States and the world. The unique band sound, sophisticated production techniques, and a spectacular live show are second to none in the Latin Music scene. The band was created and burst onto South Florida’s music scene in August 2008, by Leo Garcia (timbales & director), offering the best of Cuban music with a mix of different rhythms from around the world. All the band’s members are highly trained musicians from the most prestigious music schools in Cuba and come from well-known groups from the Island.

Their first album, “From Miami a la Habana ” created one of the most unexpected successes in the Latin Music History in the United States. Through their vast discography, Cuban & Latin music hierarchy have shared studio sessions and stages with them. Such music giants names include: Amaury Gutierrez , Willy Chirino , Albita Rodriguez, Issac Delgado, Manolin (El Médico de la Salsa), Grupo Afrocuba, Carlos Manuel, Luis Enrique, Rey Ruiz, Marc Anthony, Celia Cruz, Pablo FG, Clave y Guaguanco, Oscar de Leon, Descemer Bueno, Mayito Rivera, Los 4, Pedrito Calvo, Roberton “Van Van” and Maykel Fonts among many others.

Timbalive has toured Europe, Mexico, Canada, South America, and multiple States in the US, making this band a reference for dancers and Timba lovers in several continents. Songs from their first album such as “El Dinero”, “Ave Maria Que – Calor”, and Como Miami No Hay Na” are still played by DJs in radio stations and night clubs worldwide, fulfilling Leo’s vision of having an international Timba band based in Miami.Twelve years later and five albums, this high-octane ten-member group kept enjoying great success among the Salsa circuit across Europe, South America, Cuba, and the U.S.

About Nic & N’Taya:

Nic & N’Taya is one of only a few bands that have managed successfully to produce a creative body of work in the extremely difficult Cuban Music environment of South Florida. Their last two critically acclaimed albums “#EstoEsUnMisil” y “Tu No Querias Changüí? Coje Changüí !” has been a testament that Timba y Changüí is alive and thriving in Miami.
Changüí is a style of Cuban music that originated in the early 19th century in the eastern region of Guantánamo Province, specifically Baracoa. It arose in the sugar cane refineries and in the rural communities populated by slaves. Changüí combines the structure and elements of Spain’s canción and the Spanish guitar with African rhythms and percussion instruments of Bantu origin. Changüí is considered a predecessor of son montuno (the ancestor of modern salsa), which has enjoyed tremendous popularity in Cuba throughout the 20th century. Timba is a Cuban genre of music based on popular Cuban music along with salsa, American funk/R&B, and the strong influence of Afro-Cuban folkloric music.

Timba rhythm sections differ from their salsa counterparts because timba emphasizes the bass drum, which is not used in salsa bands.
Here’s a sparkling high-voltage band lead by singer Nick “N’Taya ” Martinez who seems to have successfully channeled the spirit and drive of the Timba & Changüí genres to a new generation of Salsa dancers. N’Taya has created a thoroughly enjoyable sound that is perfectly suited for the dance club or your next Cuban or Latin party. Many Miami bands in the past have gotten our hopes up, only to break up. Hopefully, this one will stick around for a while. Stay tuned!

Make Music Miami, the annual celebration of music on the summer solstice, returns this year on Monday, June 21 with dozens of free, virtual and in-person outdoor concerts, music lessons, jam sessions and other exciting music-making events, spotlighting music’s power to connect, comfort, unite and uplift. Miami is among the 90+ U.S. cities hosting major celebrations, in what has become a worldwide phenomenon observed by hundreds of millions of people in over 1,000+ cities in 120 countries. Safety protocols will be in place following local requirements, including mask-wearing, social distancing and limited capacities and group sizes.
Completely different from a typical music festival, Make Music Miami celebrates and promotes the natural music maker in all of us, regardless of ability. Reimagining their cities and towns as stages, every kind of musician – from bucket drummers and opera singers to hip-hop artists and marching bands – pours onto streets, parks, plazas, porches, rooftops, gardens, beaches and other public spaces to celebrate, create and share their music with friends, neighbors and strangers. Due to the pandemic, last year’s celebration was largely virtual, but many in-person events will return in 2021.

For more detailed information, visit makemusicmiami.org. Finalized programming will be posted here the week of the event.

The festival, launched in 2019 and attended by over 50,000 supporters, culminates this year with feature performances from Charli XCX, Honey Dijon, Kandy Muse, Miss Toto, and more. The event kickoff will take place at The Oasis on June 18, 2021, followed by a neighborhood-wide takeover on June 19th. The Wynwood Business Improvement District (BID) is partnering with Wynwood Pride to host a wide range of activations at popular neighborhood hot spots like The Oasis, 1-800-Lucky, Coyo Taco, Freehold, R House, Pizza & Beer, Veza Sur, No. 3 Social, and more with live concert series, neighborhood-wide drag shows, all-day dance parties, surprise celebrity appearances, and new Pride mural installations.

“The Wynwood community is proud of its partnership with Wynwood Pride and commemorate National Pride Month in support of our LGBTQ+ residents, visitors and the communities we serve,” said Albert Garcia, chairman and co-founder of the Wynwood BID. “Wynwood is a community that proudly embraces diversity and inclusion. Over the past few years, Wynwood Pride has brought together thousands of people to celebrate Miami’s growing LGBTQ+ community. This year, extra care has been taken to curate one-of-a-kind, outdoor experiences and activations across Wynwood’s beloved cultural, entertainment and culinary venues.”

Wynwood’s newest culinary and entertainment venue, The Oasis, will act as the main stage for major headliner performances, top local & national DJs, RuPaul’s Drag Race Icons, celebrity hosts, and more. 1-800-Lucky, a 10,000-square-foot Asian-fusion market with indoor and outdoor seating, will present a booming soundtrack by both local and international DJs. R House will host Drag Brunches, Miss Wynwood Pageant, and other outstanding performances honoring Miami’s most fabulous drag performers. The Freehold Wynwood will also keep the party going with an All-Day Disco, featuring funk and house music with non-stop DJ sets and a Sunday cool-down, and closing party with DJ Eli Escobar.

“Wynwood Pride is thrilled to return for its third year with an incredibly progressive lineup that speaks to our diversity as a community and celebrates our past while looking towards the future,” said Jose Atencio, organizer of the Wynwood Pride Festival 2021. “Last year, Wynwood Pride pivoted to a digital celebration, but we are ready to safely come together and once again create some Pride magic together after this past year of being apart.”

“The LGBTQ+ community is an integral part of Miami’s cultural fabric. We’re excited to partner with Wynwood Pride and welcome the community to celebrate at The Oasis, Wynwood’s newest culinary and entertainment venue” said Sven Vogtland, co-owner of The Oasis, Coyo Taco and 1-800-Lucky.

Wynwood Pride 2021 will also benefit three organizations in the fields of LGBTQ+ Youth, Health, and Justice: YES Institute, Planned Parenthood of South, East, and North Florida, and Equality Florida. Tickets start at $50 for the exclusive June 18th Kick-off event at The Oasis. Events at the Oasis on Saturday, June 19th are FREE and open to the public.

Music Stars Meek Mill, Myke Towers, Snoop Dogg, Gente De Zona and Lunay and now Farruko, one of Latin Urban music’s leading and globally acclaimed artists, will take the stage for the first time at Miami’s LoanDepot park (Marlins Stadium) to help kick off the New Triller Live Concert Series during the Triller Fight Club event.

The concert, which kicks off at 6:00 PM EST, precedes the most exciting, thrill-packed fight event of the year, which will also offer entertainment between fights once the fight card starts. The evening will also feature a surprise performance of a never-before-seen and never-seen-again duet.

The boxing portion will be headlined by the first defense from Brooklyn, New York’s ‘The Takeover’ Teofimo Lopez, (16-0, 12 KOs), of his Undisputed Lightweight World Titles (WBC, WBA, WBO, IBF, RING) against Mandatory Challenger, ‘Ferocious’ George Kambosos Jr., (19-0, 10 KOs), of Sydney, Australia scheduled for 12-rounds.

Just added to the stacked undercard is a boxing grudge match between former UFC Light Heavyweight World Champion, ‘The Phemon’ Vitor Belfort and ‘The Real Tarzann’ Mike Holston.

Prices range from $40 to $3,000 and include options from VIP ringside seats to traditional seats in the stadium (Home of Miami Marlins) upper and lower bowls, as well as seats near the two entertainment stages on either side of the ring, positioned at the pitcher’s mound. Bold comedienne and dance theater artist Sara Juli delves into her own experience to explore the painful, hilarious decay of a once-promising marriage. Romping through a campy pink set, this “light of the downtown dance and theater scene” (The New Yorker) fearlessly channels over-the-top humor and personal emotion with warmth and vulnerability, creating an “imaginative and brave show” (Broadway Baby) for audiences nationwide.

All summer programs through September 2021 are being sold implementing socially distant indoor seating. SMDCAC requires anyone not included in your ticket purchase to be located 6’ apart from your seats and patrons must wear a mask at all times.
