Miami, FL – The second South Florida edition of the Festival of Colors (festivalofcolorsfl.com) is coming to central Miami at Peacock Park in Coconut Grove on Saturday, April 13.

After an inaugural colorful 2023 event attended by hundreds in Ft, Lauderdale, this marks the second local edition of the Festival of Colors USA. It’s been beloved by conscious partiers throughout the western US for nearly two decades (festivalofcolorsusa.com), and billed as “the world’s happiest transformational festival.”

Inspired by the Indian festival of Holi, the Festival of Colors will take place on Saturday, April 13 from 11 am to 4 pm, at Peacock Park, 2820 MacFarlane Rd., Coconut Grove, Miami, 33133.

The day promises to be a vibrant celebration of love, unity, and joy, and sober, uplifting fun, with plenty of cruelty-free cuisine, arts and crafts, mantra music, HOURLY COLOR THROWS — and free entry for kids under 12!

The Festival of Colors, also known as Holi, is a Hindu festival that has been celebrated in India and other parts of the world for centuries. It’s a time when people come together to celebrate the arrival of spring and the victory of good over evil. During the festival, participants throw colorful powder at each other, dance to live music, and enjoy delicious food.

This year’s Festival of Colors in Florida promises to be an unforgettable experience for all attendees. In addition to the colorful powder throwing and live music, there will also be yoga, meditation, and dance workshops throughout the day. There will also be plenty of food vendors, serving up delicious vegetarian and vegan options.

“We’re thrilled to bring the Festival of Colors to South Florida for the first time this year,” said festival organizer, Vasanti Dasi. “We want to create a space where people can come together, have fun, and celebrate the beauty of diversity and unity. This festival is a celebration of life, love, and happiness.”

Tickets for the Festival of Colors are available for purchase on the festival’s website, festivalofcolorsfl.com. Early bird tickets are on sale now, so make sure to grab yours before they sell out. Again, kids under 12 enter free, and there’s a special discount for students and veterans.

Use promo code BHAKTI at checkout to get presale entry for just $5 (with a bag of three colors) or $10 (with a bag of three colors and a vegetarian or vegan meal). Students and veterans can use the code to get presale entry with a bag of colors for $5.

Press passes are available by contacting press officer Radha dasi at radha@halftimeyoga.com, or calling 786-361-6417.

In addition to the ribbon-cutting, the April 12 Healing Through Art opening reception will include a 5:30 p.m. panel discussion, “make and take” art stations, and live performances by local musical artists, improv artists and comedians.

This World Water Day, March 22, BLUE Missions partners with the City of Coral Gables to unveil a new public art installation on Giralda Plaza that will harness the power of augmented reality to raise awareness about local water issues in South Florida.

As part of a global action to advance water security, BLUE Missions chose World Water Day to raise public awareness of the potential threats to our local water supply and to show how everyone can engage in stewardship of our most precious resource through an innovative art installation that’s sure to become the next Instagram-worthy backdrop on Giralda Avenue from March 22nd through May 2024.

Brought to life by the creatives at Vaco Studio and Sunken Blimp, the installation titled, The Water Below Us, was approved by the Coral Gables City Commission as part of the city’s Art in Public Places program and will feature a hanging cylindrical “well” adorned with illustrations by Miami artist, Nic Vasquez. While visiting the art installation, onlookers will be transported into an augmented reality world where they can take pictures of themselves inside a surreal Everglades-inspired habitat. “The idea was to draw attention to the water that flows through the aquifers below our feet by displaying it over our heads. This valuable resource is often overlooked or taken for granted and we all have a role to play in protecting it so that it can continue to give life to future generations,” said Leslie Ramos, Chief Experience Officer at BLUE Missions Group.

A ribbon cutting will take place at 5:30 p.m. and officiated by the City of Coral Gables Mayor, Commissioners, and representatives from BLUE Missions. Following the ribbon-cutting, guests are invited to happy hour at Cebada Rooftop at 6:30 p.m.

WHEN:
March 22, 2024, at 5:30 p.m.

WHERE:
Giralda Plaza, 255 Giralda Ave., Coral Gables, FL

Art Exhibit Opens With Free, Public Reception On Friday, April 12, 2024

Following in the footsteps of this year’s first-ever National Summit on the Arts and subsequent launch of a new federal Interagency Working Group on Arts, Health, and Civic Infrastructure, Fort Lauderdale’s ArtServe will open a new exhibit on Friday, April 12 called “Looking Forward—Healing Through Art.”

The exhibit, which launches with an April 12 free public reception from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., runs through Friday, June 15 at ArtServe. To RSVP, click here: https://fb.me/e/wM0NtPwFl

The April 12 reception will include a panel discussion, “make and take” art stations and live performances by local musical artists, improv artists and comedians.

ArtServe is located at 1350 E. Sunrise Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale and open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Daily admission to Healing Through Art is also free.

Created through a grant from Funding Arts Broward and sponsored by Broward County Cultural Division and Florida Arts & Culture, Healing Through Art will feature artists who focus on mental wellness and healing, as well as those who create art despite physical or mental challenges.

Among the exhibitors will be deaf and/or physically or intellectually challenged adults from Schott Communities.

“For this exhibit, we’re directing our efforts on arts communities we believe are most neglected, such as youth in crisis, senior citizens and caregivers, among others,” ArtServe CEO Jason Hughes explained. “Through immersive, hands-on stations, performances and art installations at ‘Healing Through Art,’ ArtServe will create a welcoming, safe and creative space for those who need it most.”

“Hands-on group art projects can be instrumental in forging camaraderie and self-esteem for everyone,” Hughes added.

As the National Endowment for the Arts explained, “Arts and culture enrich our lives, our communities, and our nation. In this pivotal moment in our history, there is a growing recognition that the arts reveal new ideas, unlock opportunities, and help us confront the many challenges before us.”

ArtServe inspires, supports and advances its diverse members, artists and community by promoting artistic development, education and prosperity through the exploration and presentation of the visual and performing arts.

“TRIBUTES” Starring Joe Posa as Joan Rivers and Featuring Seth Sikes 1/13/24

“TRIBUTES” Starring Joe Posa as Joan Rivers and Featuring Seth Sikes
Saturday, 01/13/2024-, 08:00 pm-10:00 pm
Sunshine Cathedral Center for the Performing Arts
1480 SW 9th Avenue,
Fort Lauderdale, Florida, 33315
Website
Cost: $35; $65 VIP ticket includes premium seating and a meet and greet photo opportunity with both performers

Back by popular demand, Joe Posa and Seth Sikes will reunite for a performance of “TRIBUTES,” a stunning homage to iconic female legends, on Saturday, January 13, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., at Sunshine Cathedral Center for the Performing Arts (1480 SW 9th Avenue). Tickets for this captivating (18+) show are on sale, now.

This showcase, produced by the accomplished duo, unites two worlds of performance art – female impersonation and live song. Joe Posa will impersonate Joan Rivers, Barbra Streisand, and Liza Minnelli while Seth Sikes will enchant audiences with his soulful voice, singing nostalgic melodies made famous by Judy Garland, Bernadette Peters, and other artists. The cleverly choreographed show includes duets with Seth Sikes and Joe Posa as Barbra and Liza.

Can we talk?! Joe Posa has made a name for himself in show business, starting his illustrious career in musical theater as a featured performer/dancer in the international touring company of West Side Story plus other musicals including Anything Goes, Grease, A Chorus Line and South Pacific. In 1993, he then found his wings as a sought-after female celebrity impersonator. As a cast member in several productions of “An Evening at La Cage,” he has performed as Barbra Streisand, Liza Minnelli, Gloria Estefan and Michael Jackson. Posa was also Susan Lucci’s Erica Kane character double on ABC’s All My Children, as well as Tina Fey’s Liz Lemon character double on NBC’s 30 Rock. For more than 30 years, Posa has produced and starred in multiple shows in New York City, London, Provincetown, Puerta Vallarta, Boston, Palm Springs and other cities. His solo productions include “Guys as Dolls,” “An Evening at the Birdcage,” “Joe Posa Poses,” and “The Bitch is Back!” Also, he has performed at numerous red carpet corporate functions, charity fundraisers and elegant private events. Having performed alongside Ms. Rivers on two separate occasions, Posa was lovingly called by Ms. Rivers, her “favorite Joan Rivers impersonator.”

Seth Sikes is one of New York’s most popular young nightclub performers. Hailed as “the best male singer of his generation” by Theatre Scene, Sikes has been selling out venues since his 2014 debut of “Seth Sikes Sings Judy Garland.” The show recounted how Garland inspired Sikes as a young boy in Paris, Texas, while he belted the legend’s greatest hits backed by a seven-piece band. The show won Broadway World’s Best Tribute Show award and prompted The New York Times to declare, “The performance was a hit with critics and audiences, alike.” The reviewers were equally enthusiastic toward his follow-up show, “Seth Sikes Sings Liza Minnelli.” The New York Post relayed, “It was a heartfelt concert. Sikes has a heap of fans, and his audiences are always tightly packed and brimming with enthusiasm for his booming, jazzy renditions of their favorite songs.” When the Covid pandemic prevented Sikes from performing for live audiences, he created a series of online music video parodies that went viral, viewed by hundreds of thousands. His most recent video, “Ring Them Bells,” was selected to close the globally broadcast Liza Minnelli 75th birthday tribute. Sikes also works in the theatre behind the scenes. He was associate director for The Band’s Visit and The Nance on Broadway. He directed the original musical Bunked! which won Outstanding Musical at the New York International Fringe Festival in 2010, as well as “The 7th Annual Broadway Beauty Pageant.”

Tickets for “TRIBUTES” start at $35 with an option to purchase a $25 pre-show reception ticket including beverages and light snacks. To purchase tickets, visit https://bit.ly/Tributes2024.

In South Florida, there’s only one holiday feeling better than the festive Winterfest Boat Parade and that’s knowing your watch party seat will benefit Children’s Harbor, a nationally accredited non-profit agency with a mission to help strengthen families who are struggling in the community, while providing safe shelter and support to teens in foster care so that they may grow into healthy, educated and productive adults.

On Saturday, December 16, Children’s Harbor will host its annual Winterfest Boat Parade watch party with a front-row seat to the Parade route along the Intracoastal from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at The Grateful Palate and Shooters, 3003 NE. 32nd Ave. in Fort Lauderdale.

Tickets to the Children’s Harbor Winterfest Viewing Party are $250.

This year, Children’s Harbor has expanded seating to an outdoor area. Indoor and outdoor seating provides a front row seat to the parade route along the Intracoastal Waterway.

“We are excited to be adding space to accommodate even more guests as this is one of the most popular Winterfest Boat Parade events,” Children’s Harbor CEO Tiffani Dhooge said. “The funds raised benefit at-risk children and families in our community.”

Guests will enjoy an elegant dinner, open bar, raffle and reserved seating for the parade. Sponsorships are now available. For more information, email events@childrensharbor.org.

About Children’s Harbor

Established in 1996, Children’s Harbor is a nationally accredited non-profit agency with a mission to help strengthen families who are struggling in our community, while providing safe shelter and support to teens in foster care so that they may grow into healthy, educated and productive adults.

With the belief that children should feel safe, that family is worth fighting for and that cycles can be broken, Children’s Harbor provides a harbor of hope and healing for children who have been impacted by the trauma of child abuse. The main campus in Pembroke Pines provides a supportive family environment for teenagers in foster care and their younger siblings. The family strengthening program prevents kids from coming into foster care by providing in-home counseling and support to families who are struggling in the community. Those who have aged out of foster care are provided with housing, life skills and the wrap-around support necessary to overcome their trauma and navigate through the early stages of adulthood through independent living programs.

Brown’s Harbor is a supportive housing community that offers on-site staff, training, and wrap-around support services for young adults who have aged out of the foster care system, ages 18-23, helping to bridge the gap from dependence to independence.

OUTshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival Fort Lauderdale’s 15th anniversary edition, internationally acclaimed as one of the largest LGBTQ+ cultural festivals in the world, will feature the erotic stylish thriller “Femme” (UK, 2023) as its Men’s Spotlight Film.

Jules is a beloved drag queen who loves to perform, where his stage persona is not just a role but a truer version of himself. After a brutal beating, Jules retreats into himself and stops performing. When he encounters his aggressor again, it happens in a gay sauna. Following an impulse, Jules becomes entangled in a risky revenge game with a profoundly closeted young man. ”Femme” doesn’t just force its characters into the revenge and erotic thriller genre but reinvents the revenge script, exploring both openly homophobic violence and internalized homophobia, and the daily tensions of queer existence. Sam H. Freeman and Ng Choon Ping have crafted a tense, stylish thriller about desire and self-loathing.

Prepare to be petrified as South Florida’s biggest haunted experience, the House of Horror Haunted Carnival returns for its 21st frightful installment. The Master of the Carnival, Mr. Lockhart, has awakened his cursed spirits from the dead – dripping with blood, brimming with malice, and hungry to feast on terrorized souls – all while Miami International Mall undergoes a haunting transformation into a cryptic labyrinth of inescapable dread, spanning from September 28 to October 31. Exercise caution, for once you enter the gates of doom, there is no exit out of this twisted spectacle, unless you successfully navigate an unsettling journey through time and terror.

This entails conquering the carnival’s four brand-new haunted attractions, each meticulously designed to instill fear, fun, and excitement for all ages. Dare to step into history’s darkest corners as you navigate the haunting halls of the Mayhem Museum, where lost souls find their eternal resting place. Experience a spine-chilling Deja Vu at Haunted HoliDAZE, where celebrations of the past entangle visitors on repeat. Venture into the abyss with Theater of Terror tickets; it’s not your average movie theater, but one where you’ll be tasked with escaping the sinister secrets of past cinematic treasures. Making a triumphant return, Scare X Studios presents a new character, Dolly, ready to lead guests into an immersive and Instagram-worthy trip down memory lane but beware—Dolly is far from trustworthy.

If you’re more of a thrill-seeker, the House of Horror midway is an absolute must-visit with over twenty exhilarating rides, including the Scarecoaster, South Florida’s only Halloween-themed rollercoaster. Enjoy carnival games, indulge in delectable treats, and savor a tempting variety of food and beverages, all while building anticipation for the adventures that await. Elevate your House of Horror experience with the Only In Dade Experience – an offering like no other, with behind-the-scenes access to the haunted attractions, entry to an air-conditioned lounge, photo opportunities, unexpected scares, music, beverages, and meet and greets with the signature Only In Dade cast.

Throughout October, House of Horror will present a series that promises to captivate your senses, beginning with a grand Opening Night spectacle on September 28. Brace yourself for a chilling experience as the gates of doom will creak open, revealing the Master of the Carnival, Mr. Lockhart, accompanied by an entourage of spooky characters. Among them, you’ll encounter a ceremony of stilt walkers, dancers, the band of the dead, and other dreadful surprises.

Mark your calendar for Friday the 13, when a deeper, more ominous layer of terror will be unveiled. On Sunday, October 29, our Spook-A-Palooza awaits the eager children, offering a character parade, an enchanting dance performance, and a daring trick-or-treat expedition that could lead to delightfully eerie encounters.

As the clock strikes 7 pm on October 31, an eerie spell of music will rise with a parade of horror, featuring performers shrouded in darkness, scare actors channeling your deepest fears, and stilt walkers towering over prepared to wrap you in their grasp. The Haunted Night of Horror will be a night to remember…if you’re still alive to tell the tale. A calendar of special events will be available and periodically updated at houseofhorrorcarnival.com.

Tickets, ranging from $20 to $50, offer varying levels of access depending on the night and can be purchased at https://houseofhorrorcarnival.com/. Stay tuned for special ticket offers and updates by following House of Horror Haunted Carnival on Instagram and Facebook.

ArtServe’s Annual Members and Resident Artists’ Exhibit Springboards Aspiring Talent

“Sole Perception” to Run Friday, Oct. 6 Through Saturday, Dec. 30;
Free, Opening Night Reception Oct. 6

Marking a successful year featuring all kinds of artists from South Florida and beyond, ArtServe turns its final exhibit of 2023 exclusively over to its members and resident artists with a focus on the inherent interconnectivity of their individual creativity.

Titled “Sole Perception,” the exhibit opens with a free, public reception from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 6. To RSVP for the event, click here. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/sole-perception-annual-members-exhibition-tickets-696121446987?aff=oddtdtcreator

Thanks to a grant from Broward Cultural Division and Florida Arts & Culture, the exhibit itself is also free to attend and runs through Saturday, December 30, 2023. ArtServe is located at 1350 E. Sunrise Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale and open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

ArtServe’s members and resident artists eagerly await this annual exhibit, which is known in South Florida’s art community as a place to connect with art scouts looking for up-and-coming talent. Some ArtServe artists go on to exhibit their work at Art Basel after being discovered.

Echoing ArtServe’s fundamental mission to connect local artists with the community, “Sole Perception” will invite visitors to contemplate how artists’ reinterpretations of others’ ideas create an endless stream of consciousness to connect the viewer with the original artistic inspiration.

“It was Mark Twain who said ‘There is no such thing as a new idea. It is impossible.’” ArtServe Executive Director Jason Hughes remarked. “But we’re pretty sure when you see our artists’ works at ‘Sole Perception,’ you’ll likely get some fresh ideas of your own!”

“Sole Perception” will showcase a variety of disciplines in the visual arts.

“It’s also an opportunity for guests to support local artists by purchasing their work and, with the holidays right around the corner, we can’t think of a better, more unique present than the gift of art,” Hughes added.

ArtServe inspires, supports and advances its diverse members, artists and community by promoting artistic development, education and prosperity through the exploration and presentation of the visual and performing arts.

On U.S. Veterans’ Administration 93rd Anniversary, ArtServe Art Exhibit
Explores Challenges of Life After Military Service

Friday, July 21 Opening Reception Coincides with VA’s 93rd Anniversary;
Monday, September 11 Closing Day Pays Tribute to First Responder Veterans

Ninety-three years ago on July 21, 1930, the creation of the U.S. Department of Veterans Administration forever changed how Americans cared for our veterans after their active service was completed.

To celebrate that commitment, ArtServe is opening a new exhibit coinciding with the Veterans Administration’s 93rd anniversary called “Veterans: A Family Perspective.”

The exhibit officially opens with a free, public reception on Friday, July 21, 2023 at ArtServe from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. ArtServe is located at 1350 E. Sunrise Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale.

It concludes on Monday, September 11 in tribute to first responders and other veterans of America’s worst terrorist attack.

Artist participation in the “Veterans” exhibit is open to all, including veterans, active-duty service persons and military family members, whose artwork depicting the challenges of life after military service will be showcased.

“As the fanfare of July 4 sunsets each year, supporting our veterans remains a substantial daily need,” ArtServe Executive Director Jason Hughes explained, noting that this imperative was underscored by the June 9, 2023 presidential executive order on “Advancing Economic Security for Military and Veteran Spouses, Military Caregivers, and Survivors.” “So much of the heartache and difficulty of reintegrating veterans into civilian life is borne by their loved ones. The untold story of these families’ courage will be on display at ArtServe.”

Sponsored by Florida Power & Light, Primo Liquors, United Way of Broward County’s Mission United, OutClique magazine and the USS Fort Lauderdale (LPD 28) Commissioning & Support Committee, “Veterans: A Family Perspective” opens to the public on Friday, July 14.

Solo exhibits by Marilyn Johansen and Tony Khawam will also be on display.

ArtServe hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.

Thanks to a grant from Broward Cultural Division and Culture Builds Florida, admission to both the July 21 reception and the ongoing exhibit are free.

Unlike Juneteenth, which commemorates the day when enslaved individuals in Texas learned of their freedom, May 20th Emancipation Day is specific to Florida’s history. While the Juneteenth holiday is a key piece of Black American history, it is independent from Florida’s unique and indispensable celebration. The 20th of May, Florida’s Emancipation Celebration will consist of statewide events that will collect and share communal and cultural heritage stories and experiences.
In recognition of the proximity of Haitian Flag Day and Florida’s Emancipation Day, this panel brings together historians and cultural experts for a transnational conversation about freedom struggles in the Caribbean and the Americas and to educate the public about the respective holidays.

Heal For Us, a newly organized nonprofit that aims to encourage people struggling with mental health has partnered with The Ripple Effect to put on a night of music and poetry at The Doral Yard on May 18 in support of Mental Health Awareness Month. The concert will feature local musicians singing cover songs from artists who suffered from mental health issues such as Amy Winehouse, Whitney Houston, Mac Miller, Nirvana, and Prince.

“We have lost some of the greatest musicians of our time to the void of darkness, addiction, and depression. Close to 120,000 people die each year to suicide or overdose; people who once had flourishing careers, said Nedal Ahmad, founder of Heal For Us. “As a parent, I’m well aware of the struggles men have speaking about anxiety and depression and the stigma of having to be the strong, dependable, father figure in the family.” According to the ADAA, over 6 million men suffer from depression per year, but male depression often goes underdiagnosed. More than 3 million men in the US have panic disorder, agoraphobia, or any other phobia. Heal for Us wants to bridge that gap and empower fathers with resources, mental health services, and support.

Over 30 local musicians and bands signed up to participate in Heal Fest 2023’s night of music and poetry; only five were chosen for the inaugural event. The lineup includes up-and-coming artists such as:

• VIX is influenced by Amy Winehouse. She infuses her music with a distinctive blend of rock, soul, and pop, and her lyrics are deeply personal and introspective, often exploring themes of love, loss, and self-discovery. IG: @VIXmvsic
• Joshua Mitchell is scheduled to perform music from Prince. Whether you’re overcome with the unstoppable urge to get up and dance, or the urge to shed a few tears, Joshua Mitchell’s music is bound to make you feel something. Joshua promotes mental health awareness, social equality, community outreach, and of course, just having a good time. IG: @joshuamitchellmusic
• Dria is a Florida-raised, NY-based artist and performing arts teacher, who will be performing music from Whitney Houston. Dria has been referred to as a “Creative Powerhouse” and dreams of building her creative community with a space that can be safe for ALL through the Arts. IG: @highdefinizion_21
• Christopher Luv is a 25-year-old from Miami who will be covering Kurt Cobain from Nirvana. IG: @christopherluvmusic
• Trevon DeVitto known as Giftrap Tre will perform music from Mac Miller. He will also be the artist to provide the spoken word.

Fort Lauderdale, Florida (March 14, 2023) – In an art exhibit entitled “Wellness Exhibition: Fostering Mental and Emotional Health—An Artist’s Journey Through Healing” that runs from Fri., April 14 to Fri., June 16, 2023, ArtServe will explore how artists apply various genres and mediums to convey different journeys of well-being, self-love and healing through their art.

A free, public opening reception is planned from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m on Friday, April 21. To register, click here. Admission is free to both the exhibit and reception.

ArtServe is located at 1350 E. Sunrise Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.

ArtServe curated the “Wellness” exhibit from local artists’ submissions. Entries also were welcomed from both adults and students in the eighth grade through college.

“It’s long been known in medical circles that art is a highly effective form of therapy that encourages non-verbal communication and healing when people are often unable to speak for whatever the reason,” ArtServe executive director Jason Hughes said. “Exploring self-expression through the outlet of various artforms can create a safe space that helps many embrace and sort through their own personal difficulties.”

According to the American Art Therapy Association, there are over 5,000 art therapists practicing nationwide who provide services for individuals, families, and communities through active art-making, creative processes, applied psychological theory and human experience within a psychotherapeutic relationship.

A solo exhibit entitled “Story of a Woman’s Journey” produced by Deborah Strelkow will run concurrently to the “Wellness” exhibit at ArtServe.

ArtServe inspires, supports and advances its diverse members, artists and community by promoting artistic development, education and prosperity through the exploration and presentation of the visual and performing arts.

Tributes Starring Joe Posa as Joan Rivers and Featuring Seth Sikes 1/14/23

TRIBUTES Starring Joe Posa as Joan Rivers and Featuring Seth Sikes
Saturday, 01/14/2023-, 08:00 pm-
Sunshine Cathedral Center for the Performing Arts
1480 SW 9th Avenue,
Fort Lauderdale, Florida, 33315
Website
Cost: $35; $65 VIP ticket includes premium seating and a meet and greet photo opportunity with both performers

The stars will align when Joe Posa and Seth Sikes unite to perform for one night only in “TRIBUTES,” a loving homage to female leading legends, on Saturday, January 14, at 8 p.m., at the Sunshine Cathedral Center for the Performing Arts (1480 SW 9th Avenue). Tickets for this dynamic duo show are on sale, now.

This new tribute show, produced by the leading men, themselves, will bring two worlds of performance art together: female impersonation and live song. Joe Posa will impersonate Joan Rivers, Barbra Streisand and Liza Minnelli while Seth Sikes will delight audiences with his soulful voice singing of nostalgic tunes made famous by Judy Garland, Bernadette Peters and others.

Joe Posa has made a name for himself in show business, starting his career in musical theater as a performer/dancer featured in the international touring company of West Side Story plus other musicals including Anything Goes, Grease, A Chorus Line and South Pacific. In 1993 (soon to be celebrating his 30th anniversary), he then found his wings as a sought-after female celebrity impersonator. Having performed alongside Ms. Rivers on two separate occasions, Posa was lovingly called by Ms. Rivers, her “favorite Joan Rivers Impersonator.” As a cast member in several productions of “An Evening at La Cage,” he has performed as Barbra Streisand, Liza Minnelli, Gloria Estefan and Michael Jackson. Posa was also Susan Lucci’s Erica Kane character double on ABC’s “All My Children,” as well as Tina Fey’s Liz Lemon character double on NBC’s “30 Rock.” Posa has produced and starred in multiple shows in Provincetown, Puerta Vallarta, Boston, Palm Springs, New York City, London and other cities for nearly 20 years. His productions include, “Guys as Dolls,” “An Evening at the Birdcage,” “Joe Posa Poses,” and “The Bitch is Back!” Also, he has performed at numerous red carpet corporate functions, charity fundraisers and elegant private events.

He was associate director for “The Band’s Visit” and “The Nance” on Broadway. He directed the original musical “Bunked!” which won Outstanding Musical at the New York International Fringe Festival in 2010, as well as “The 7th Annual Broadway Beauty Pageant.

Tickets for “TRIBUTES” start at $35 with a $65 VIP ticket including premium seating and a meet and greet photo opportunity with both performers. To purchase tickets, visit bit.ly/TributesbyPosaandSikes.

231 SW Second Avenue,
Fort Lauderdale, Florida, 33301

Cost: $125

History Fort Lauderdale, celebrating its 60th year of stewardship of our community’s past, has announced Ted Drum and the Drum, Clark and Cox families as honorees for its 26th annual History Makers fundraiser set for Thursday, November 10, from 6 – 8 p.m. This yearly special event commends individuals and companies who have made an impact on the growth of the City of Fort Lauderdale. Tickets are on sale, now.

For over 70 years, Fort Lauderdale native Ted Drum and his extended family have made significant contributions to the development of the City of Fort Lauderdale through political leadership and prosperous marine, hospitality, and real estate ventures.

Ted Drum was born in Fort Lauderdale in 1938, and Bob Cox arrived in 1946 aboard an 85-foot deep-draft motorsailer. Looking for dockage that would accommodate the boat led him to a naval station on the Intracoastal near 17th Street. A series of fortuitous events, perseverance and engineering expertise on Bob’s part led to his establishment of what would become the Lauderdale Marina.

The Drum and Cox families merged in the early ‘60s when Ted met and married Carol Clark, Bob Cox’s daughter. Soon thereafter, Ted left for Vietnam and returned home seven years later as a decorated combat company commander and captain. The family grew the marina property to include homes for Drum Realty, which Ted’s father Harlan established in 1951, and the 15th Street Fisheries restaurant, established with Carol’s brothers John and Macdonald Clark. One might thing that Bob Cox would have had enough to occupy his time during these years with the marina and other business enterprises. However, seeing a need for leadership in Fort Lauderdale he found time to serve on the city commission and as mayor of Fort Lauderdale from 1986 until 1991.

During this time, Ted and Carol, while raising two children, grew Drum Realty and established a reputation for themselves, and their business, for integrity and fair dealing. Their children, Lorrie Drum Roschman and Kelly Drum continue that reputation as current owners of the family businesses. While Carol sadly passed away in 2011, Ted has remained active in real estate in Fort Lauderdale and Drum Realty continues, today, as does Lauderdale Marina and 15th Street Fisheries, which operate under the umbrella of The Shipyard. These enterprises remain family businesses with Ted’s son, Kelly, as president of the Shipyard and of 15th Street Fisheries and Scott Clark, Bob Cox’s grandson, serving as president of Lauderdale Marina. Currently, eight other Drum, Clark, and Cox family members are involved at The Shipyard. The Drum family expanded in 2015, when Ted married Kathy Molinet. Since then, Ted and Kathy, while remaining busy in their careers, carve out ample time to enjoy their shared passion of boating and travel.

It’s Miss America meets RuPaul’s Drag Race! Pageant, the musical beauty contest will open Island City Stage’s 11th South Florida season in glamourous over-the-top style on October 20! The glittering, grandiose and glorious musical comedy runs through November 20.

With lyrics by Bill Russell and Frank Kelly and music by Albert Evans, conceived by Robert Longbottom, Pageant sends up the once cherished traditions of beauty finalists in bathing suit and ball gown competitions, while contestants compete for the title of “Miss Glamouresse.” And who wins the crown? The audience decides! Judges selected from the audience at each performance pick the winner ensuring that no performance is the same – and the on-stage suspense is real!

This opening production stars an ensemble cast including Conor Walton, Michael Scott Ross, Matthew Buffalo, Christopher Calhoun, Marcus Davis, Kevin Veloz and Larry Buzzeo. It is directed by Carbonell Award-winning choreographer/director Ron Hutchins with musical direction from Michael Ursua.

Along with its Season 11 lineup, Island City Stage will be bringing back its introspective Behind the Red Curtain public forum series, launched last year as an anniversary initiative to address the stories and issues that inspire its shows, as well as its popular Women’s Night at the Theatre. Additionally, the second Sunday performance of all five shows will be Mimosa Sunday which includes a pre-show complimentary Mimosa (21 and over), a light bites reception and a post-show talk back. Seating limited and subject to availability based on confirmed ticket reservation on a first-come basis. Mimosa Sunday for Pageant will be on October 30.

Creating quality professional theatrical experiences focused on the LGBT+ community for a universal audience, Island City Stage’s 11th South Florida season offers thought-provoking productions that explore bittersweet longing, gender questions, loneliness, the ins and outs of friendship, the magic of random human connection and ethnic conflict within the generational divide. Upcoming shows include Rotterdam by Jon Brittain from January 19 – February 19; I Wanna F@#king Tear You Apart by Morgan Gould from March 2 – April 2; Tracy Jones by Stephen Kaplan from May 18 – June 18 and Springfield Pride Commissioned by Island City Stage from August 3 – September 3.

Tickets for Pageant start at $50. Season subscribers can save with a $185 Flexpass for five productions (a $15 savings off individually priced tickets plus no processing fees) and receive $5 off additional tickets purchased.
