A large-scale Lunar New Year celebration brings music, dance and traditional performance together in a single evening honoring the Year of the Horse.

The 2026 Overseas Chinese Spring Festival Gala takes place Saturday, February 7 at the Julius Littman Performing Arts Theater in North Miami Beach. Co-presented by several regional and national Chinese cultural organizations, the annual gala is recognized as one of the largest Chinese New Year celebrations in the United States.

The program features a wide-ranging lineup of artists from China and the Chinese diaspora, with performances spanning folk and classical music, opera, acrobatics and cross-cultural works. Featured performers include National Class-A artists Xiaoquan Feng and Gege Zeng, vocalist Xiaojing Song, Peking Opera artist Li Qiao, soprano Hongyue Yu, acrobats Yue Dai and Lei Zeng, and pianist Dr. Tingting Wu, whose multimedia performances combine music and visual storytelling. The evening is hosted by bilingual emcees Guomei Wu and He Zhong.

In addition to visiting artists, the gala highlights South Florida community groups including Chunfeng Dance School, Joy Song and Dance Club, North Palm Beach Dance Club & Event Dance Team, and Golden Deer Arts Ensemble. Together, the performances reflect both classical traditions and contemporary expressions of Chinese culture, emphasizing cultural exchange and community connection through the shared celebration of the Lunar New Year.

Tri-Rail, South Florida’s premier commuter rail system, invites talented young singers, ages 5 to 17, to audition for the annual “South Florida’s Kids Got Talent” competition, to be held at the Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS) (401 SW 2nd Street, Fort Lauderdale). Auditions will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 23, offering participants from Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties the chance to showcase their vocal abilities and compete for a spot in the 2025 final event.

Tri-Rail’s “South Florida’s Kids Got Talent” competition has become a signature event, uniting children and families across the region. All performers aged 5 to 17 that reside in South Florida are invited to audition. Each act will have up to four minutes to perform in front of a panel of judges who will select the finalists for the main competition in February 2025, during Tri-Rail’s 16th annual “Rail Fun Day,” presented by Herzog. Judges will score based on vocal range, stage presence, and style.

Over the years, “Rail Fun Day” has grown into a beloved community event in Dania Beach, featuring interactive activities, food trucks, cookie decorating, face painting, and more. Last year’s event saw ten-year-old Samantha Schmerling take home the grand prize with her vocal performance, earning her $500, a one-year contract inclusive of a photo shoot with composite cards courtesy of Posche Models & Talent, and a professional studio recording session with MikeSoperMusic.

Grab your best partners-in-crime and hatch a plot to catch Die, Mommie, Die! by Charles Busch, Island City Stage’s riotous 12th Season closer running August 22 – September 22. Off-Broadway star Kris Andersson (aka Dixie Longate) leads a multitalented cast of performers in this killer comic melodrama that evokes the 1960s “Grande Dame Guignol” films that featured aging stars such as Bette Davis, Joan Crawford and Lana Turner.

Ex-pop singer Angela Arden is trapped in a hateful marriage with Sol. But desperate to find happiness with her young lover Tony, Angela murders her husband with a poisoned suppository. Suspicious of their mother, her children slip her some LSD, provoking a wild acid trip in which many secrets are revealed.

Die, Mommie, Die! was first produced in 1999 by Kenneth Elliott and Don Fairbanks at the Coast Playhouse in Los Angeles. In October 2007, the play opened Off-Broadway at New World Stages in New York City. Directed by Carl Andress, the production starred author Charles Busch and featured Bob Ari, Van Hansis, Chris Hoch, Ashley Morris and Kristine Nielson. It was also made into a 2003 film starring Busch.

Charles Busch has forged a unique place in the world of entertainment as playwright, actor, director, novelist, cabaret performer and drag icon. The award-winner is the author and star of over 25 plays including The Divine Sister, The Lady in Question, Red Scare on Sunset, The Tribute Artist, The Confession of Lily Dare and Vampire Lesbians of Sodom; one of the longest running plays in the history of Off-Broadway. His play The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife ran for 777 performances on Broadway, won the Outer Circle Critics’ John L. Gassner Award for playwrighting, received a Tony nomination for Best Play and is the longest running Broadway comedy of the past 25 years. He wrote and starred in the film versions of his plays, Psycho Beach Party and Die Mommie Die, the latter of which won him the Best Performance Award at the Sundance Film Festival. For two seasons, he appeared as Nat Ginzburg on the HBO series OZ and is the author of the auto-biographical novel Whores of Lost Atlantis. He has directed two films and has appeared as a guest programmer and in numerous documentaries for Turner Classic Movies. He has lectured and conducted master classes at many colleges and universities including NYU, Harvard, UCLA and Amherst College. In 2003, Mr. Busch received a special Drama Desk Award for career achievement as both performer and playwright and was given a star on the Playwrights Walk outside the Lucille Lortel Theatre. He is also the subject of the acclaimed documentary film The Lady in Question is Charles Busch. He is a two-time MAC award winner and has performed his cabaret across the globe.

Die, Mommie Die! is directed by Andy Rogow and co-stars Clay Cartland, Troy J. Stanley, Elizabeth Dimon, Kevin Veloz and Suzanna Ninomiya alongside Andersson.

In celebration of Cinco de Mayo, Feeding South Florida® – the leading hunger-relief organization in South Florida – will host “Tacos & Tequila” at its Pembroke Park Warehouse on Saturday, May 4, from 2–6 p.m. The outdoor festival will feature tacos, tequila cocktails, live music and family-friendly activities to support Feeding South Florida’s mission to end hunger in South Florida.

American Heritage Schools [ahschool.com], the top-ranked PK3 through 12 college preparatory school in Florida, is proud to announce its annual “K-9 Cause: An Evening of Art” auction benefiting the Broward Sheriff’s Foundation’s Retired Canine Relief Fund, on Saturday, April 20.

Everyone loves dogs; however, police dogs, or K-9s, are a special breed. Instead of enjoying the pampered pet lifestyle, K-9s dedicate their entire lives to working daily to protect and serve citizens in our community along with their fearless handlers. They are considered law enforcement officers, whose duties include constant training, apprehending suspects, and searching for explosives, drugs, and missing persons.

When the K-9s retire, their law enforcement handlers graciously adopt them and continue to care for them, as these K-9s have become their friends for life. Recognizing that the medical and healthcare for these K-9s can get quite costly, the Broward Sheriff’s Foundation has established the Retired K-9 Healthcare Fund. This Fund pays for up to 50% of the wellness care costs for all retired K-9s from any local law enforcement agency in Broward County.

Inspired by a little boy’s passion for animals and art, American Heritage Schools is raising money to “fund this fund” by selling artistic renditions of these fine K-9s. Jackson Laurie, a sophomore at American Heritage Schools, and his parents Dr. Douglas Laurie and Nikki Laurie-Van Allen have partnered with the National Art Honor Society and the award-winning Fine Arts faculty at American Heritage to create artwork of these very K-9 being honored.

American Heritage Schools, Broward Campus, will be hosting a Silent Auction for these original works of art, as well as a limited supply of prints for sale at our K-9 Cause event. 100% of all funds raised from this event will benefit the Broward Sheriff Foundation’s Retired K-9 Relief Fund.

Jojo, a great kid who loves to read… That is until some kids in the lunchroom start calling her names like “bookworm.” To avoid the bullying, Jojo goes to Mendel’s Magical Book Shop, hoping that she can sell his books and use the money to buy video games, so she’ll fit in with the other kids. Once in the Magic Book Shop though, things take an unexpected turn as the stories in her books magically start to jump to life all around her! Now, all of the pages to Jojo’s books are blank and the characters from her books are running wild in real life!

It’s up to Jojo to retell the stories to get her old friends to go back on the page. While Jojo works to get his favorite characters from her books to go back on to the pages they belong in, she remembers why she loves to read some much in the first place; It’s really FUN! Along the way Jojo starts to realize that all of his books have characters in them who are different, and that being different is what makes them special.

This show artfully weaves its featured books into its thru-line to create a show that both encourages reading and celebrates diversity.

Register for a tour led by MOCA docent Dr. Helen Sachs Chaset. Dr. Chaset is an educator with more than 45 years of experience in administration, professional development, and program development. She is also a board member of Miami-Dade Holocaust Survivors, the Jewish Community Services of South Florida and the Center for the Advancement of Jewish Education. Dr. Chaset is the daughter of two Holocaust Survivors and was born in a displaced persons camp in Hannover, Germany.

Join MOCA on the first Sunday of every month for MOCA Sunday Stories, followed by a DIY early childhood art project. Celebrate America’s Independence Day with MOCA as they read “Apple Pie 4th of July” by Janet S. Wong. Shocked that her parents are cooking Chinese food to sell in the family store on an all-American holiday, a feisty Chinese American girl tries to tell her mother and father how things really are. But as the parade passes by and fireworks light the sky, she learns a surprising lesson. After the reading, participants may create their own fireworks head crown to take home.

Sponsored by the North Miami Community Redevelopment Agency, this early childhood art series engages toddlers and fosters reading, motor skill development and socialization. MOCA Sunday Stories is a great way for children to bond with their parents or guardians as they create together.

The Lincoln Eatery on Miami Beach is hosting its monthly pop up market with Pop up & Shop up on Sunday, March 27th! The event will take place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and will feature at least 15 different local women and Black-owned businesses, each selling assorted local Miami-made products that vary from clothes and jewelry to crystals and skincare.

Pop up & Shop up continues the Lincoln Eatery’s mission of bringing local artisans together, creating a sense of community in Miami Beach by highlighting minority-owned businesses and locally-made products. Past events have involved vendors with trendy products such as divine-smelling candles, hand-made bikinis, and dainty jewelry. Ten years after the liberation of the Nazi concentration camps, filmmaker Alan Resnais documented the abandoned grounds of Auschwitz and Majdanek in Night and Fog (Nuit et Brouillard), one of the first cinematic reflections on the Holocaust. Juxtaposing the stillness of the abandoned camps’ empty buildings with haunting wartime footage, Resnais investigates humanity’s capacity for violence and presents the devastating suggestion that such horrors could occur again. After the documentary, there will be an open discussion on understanding historical questions raised in the film and universal questions about justice and humanity. Panelists include Dr. Terrence Peterson, Assistant Professor of History at FIU, and Dr. Oren Stier, Associate Professor of Religious Studies and Director of the Holocaust Studies initiative.

The Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs invites artists, cultural and community non-profit organizations to a series of free workshops introducing and demystifying the County’s cultural grant programs. The Department’s professional staff team will provide detailed information about the competitive funding opportunities offered through the Department, offer examples of strategies and best practices that have proven to be successful in the competitive environment, and suggest other helpful resources available for the cultural community. In addition, staff from Miami-Dade County’s Office of Management and Budget, Grants Coordination Division will share important information regarding other grant opportunities available through the County, highlight the County’s Grants Website, and discuss grant resources for non-profit organizations.

The Newport Beachside Resort and Hotel will play host to over 1,000 of Kelly’s closest friends for this one-of-a kind “Le Cirque Royale” Celebration! The Xtravaganza will be held in the main Grand lobby, as well as in their award-winning restaurant, Kitchen 305. The lobby will be transformed by renowned set designers 3DX, into a magnificent royal palace with towering pillars of red and gold.

Creating Gerry Kelly’s “Le Cirque Royale” cake will be non-other than, the internationally renowned and award winning dynamic duo, Carolina Montoya and Luis Fernando Puga of Unique Designer’s Cakes. Their edible scale creations have been featured in publications across the globe and have attracted many celebrity clientele.

Spearheading the entertainment for the evening will be Choreographer, Pamela Cannellas from Hot Jam Entertainment, with a bevy of performers and stage shows throughout the evening. Spinning in the grand lobby will be DJ NYX playing open format and top 40 and DJ Patrick Mohr in Kitchen 305.

A Former Couture Fashion designer, Kelly has played a significant role in placing South Beach and Miami, on the world’s nightlife map and has been credited for opening some of the most incredible hotspots in the Southern United States. Venues include, Sean Penn’s Bash, Shadow Lounge, Level, Karu & Y and The Fifth, to mention a few. He is hailed as a Miami’s Nightlife Guru and as the Associated Press very eloquently described him, “Gerry Kelly is to Nightlife what the Queen of England is to Royalty. ” His events and productions have attracted the “Who’s Who” of the Celebrity A-List, as well as international renowned personalities, such as Former President Clinton, Sean Combs a.k.a P. Italian Staple Hosted Unveiling Event of North Miami Showroom

MIAMI – April 29, 2014 – On Thursday, April 24, the internationally-acclaimed luxury Italian kitchen brand Veneta Cucine unveiled its newly renovated showroom with a chic relaunch event. The 2,000-square-foot space was revealed among 300 guests in an evening entailing Italian design and innovation, cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.  The much-anticipated event featured a live cooking demonstration by co-host and renowned Chef Philippe Fiore, who has been the private chef of A-list celebrities, such as Julio Iglesias, Chayanne, Mel Gibson and Shakira, to name a few.
