Slow Food Miami, the local 100% volunteer non-profit organization dedicated to “planting a fresher future for our children,” will hold its 3rd Annual “Snail of Approval” Tasting Party on Friday, April 25th from 7 to 10 p.m., at The Raleigh Hotel. Join Ambassador for the Evening, James Beard Award-winning Chef Michael Schwartz for what has become Miami’s “Freshest Night Out.” Guests will savor exclusive bites from Miami’s farm-to-table best, hand-crafted cocktails courtesy of 2012 Snail of Approval Award Winner GREY GOOSE Vodka, specialty wines provided by Stellar Wines, Michael’s Genuine Home Brew courtesy of Royal Caribbean International and its new Michael’s Genuine Pub, non-alcoholic refreshments from Whole Foods Market – South Beach, and the iconic Miami Beach setting of The Raleigh Hotel’s fabulous poolside venue. Ploppy Palace Productions and the Miccosukee Tribe will be hosting a concert to raise awareness and funds for Everglades protection and public education on Saturday, May 10, 2014, from 6 p.m. to 3 a.m. at 7th Circuit Productions (228 N.E. 59th Street Miami, FL 33137). As part of this three stage extravaganza, some of South Florida’s top bands, spoken word artists and community activists will join together to raise awareness for this vital natural resource. Those who cannot attend but are interested in donating to the cause can do so online at
There will be musical performances by Boxelder, Afrobeta, Sweetbone, Franklin’s Wheel, Aaron Lebos Reality, Nature’s Fury, Teri Catlin, The Super Fuzz, Cog Noman, Nag Champayons present the Prolific Minimalists, Kuyayky, the Osceola Brothers Band, Mr. Grim Reapa, Orion, Val C. Wisecracker, Grant Livingston, Anthony Nelson, Silver Nightingale and more.

The evening will also featuring spoken word performances by Alonso, Oscar Fuentes, Rebecca “Butterfly” Vaughns and more as well as dance and performance by Elviza’s Rockabelly Hippies, Feiruz Asaad, Lucky Bruno, Melody Gedeon and more and live painting by Eva Ruiz, Anibal Fernandez, Linx, Jake Cordero and more. There will be face painting by Them There Eyes.
Community speakers include Florida State Senator Dwight Bullard, South Miami City Mayor Phil Stoddard, Houston Cypress from Love the Everglades Movement, Laura Reynolds – Executive Director for Tropical Audubon Society, Matt Schwartz, Executive Director for South Florida Wildlands Association and other concerned citizens.
In addition, the Environmental Art Exhibition highlights a selection of distinctive artists including the works of Mark Henson, Kiro Fox Ace, Eva Ruiz, Lloyd Goradesky, Brian F. Call, Lauranda Hook, Peter Barreda, Margrit-Rose People, Aeric Moskowitz, Alissa Christine, Flex Maslan, Brian Pruitt, Rei Ramirez, Abdiel Acosta, Jorge Muriel, Wesley Geometry, Jake Cordero, Luis Alejandro Diaz, Jean Sarmiento, Mike Jones, Anibal Fernandez, Chia Ortegon, Stephanie McMillan, Aiyesha Ghani, Claudia Costa, Anastasia Sultzer and more. The exhibition will be featured in the Moksha Gallery from Friday, April 18 – Tuesday, May 13.

The Seventh Annual Open the Door Awards Dinner and Auction hosted by the Women’s Breast Health Initiative, Florida Affiliate (WBHI) is right around the corner! This special event supporting early detection of breast cancer and heart disease in women is going to be held on Friday May 2, 2014 at the Turnberry Isle Miami in Aventura. Tickets are $100 per person and you may buy your tickets online at Funds raised from this event will help uninsured and undeserved women in the South Florida community receive free breast and heart health education and services which may save their lives.

Join the gathering beginning at 6:30 p.m. to enjoy great food, authentic jazz music, silent and live auctions, and hear from women whose lives have been saved by WBHI’s outreach and educational programs. Community leaders will also be honored during the event.
