History Fort Lauderdale’s third floor resident artists’ collective will present its annual show entitled “Six Perspectives” from May 4 – June 22. The six artists exhibiting are Constance Ivana, Stephanie McMillan, Rucci, Florencia Clement de Grandprey, Jenna Ross and Agneta Anderson. A meet and greet with the artists will take place on Friday, May 10, from 5 – 8 p.m., at the New River Inn Museum of History building on History Fort Lauderdale’s campus. Complimentary light bites and beverages will be provided.

History Fort Lauderdale, proud steward of our community’s past by making our heritage accessible and engaging to residents and visitors, hosts a variety of engaging multicultural experiences, year-round. It seeks to bring awareness to the community through both traveling exhibits and multiple permanent exhibits including “Women Trailblazers,” “Fort Lauderdale – the Early Years,” “The African American Experience,” “Fashion & Musical Theatre,” “From Dugouts to Dream Yachts: the story of boatbuilding along the New River,” Seminole Arts & Culture,” “New River Archaeology,” “Viva Fort Lauderdale: Celebrating Hispanic Art & Culture,” and, “Take PRIDE, a retrospective on LGBTQ life in South Florida.”

“Six Perspectives” is sponsored by the following funds at the Community Foundation of Broward: Jan and Ed Crocker Unrestricted Fund, Leo M. and Alice J. Rutten Fund and The Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation Broward Community Fund. Additional funding is provided, in part, by Broward County Board of County Commissioners as recommended by the Broward County Cultural Council, and Visit Lauderdale. This organization is also sponsored by the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Arts & Culture.

History Fort Lauderdale is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. with docent guided tours, daily, at 1, 2 and 3 p.m. Group walking tours are available upon special request. Admission is $15 for adults; $12 for seniors and $7 for students (through age 22 with a valid student ID). Admission is free for members, military and children ages six and under. It’s Star Wars Day: May the 4th at Museum of Discovery and Science. Celebrate the galactic forces of the world and meet iconic Star Wars characters like Stormtroopers and Jedi Knights from the 501st Legion Everglades Squad and the Dagobah Temple – Saber Guild.

Exhibits, Shows and Demos: Build your own bot to help restore order to the galaxy! Become a Padawan and experience the steps it takes to be a Jedi in our interactive workshop. Children can also visit and investigate ocean marvels in MODS’ latest traveling exhibit, Voyage to the Deep – Underwater Adventures. “Seas” the day and embark on the legendary Nautilus submarine with Captain Nemo for an interactive journey of underwater exploration! The exhibition was created and developed by the Australian National Maritime Museum, an Australian Government entity. Flying Fish manages the exhibit tour. It is locally sponsored by Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital.

Experience South Florida’s award-winning attraction featuring 150,000 square feet of dynamic science exhibits, an outdoor science park, a live animal collection, a rotating schedule of science shows, learning labs, café, store and a grand atrium featuring the Great Gravity Clock, a 52-foot-tall kinetic energy sculpture; the largest clock in Florida. The showpiece of the museum since 1993, this unique timepiece is one of only three in the world.

In celebration of Cinco de Mayo, Feeding South Florida® – the leading hunger-relief organization in South Florida – will host “Tacos & Tequila” at its Pembroke Park Warehouse on Saturday, May 4, from 2–6 p.m. The outdoor festival will feature tacos, tequila cocktails, live music and family-friendly activities to support Feeding South Florida’s mission to end hunger in South Florida.

American Heritage Schools, in partnership with Lighthouse of Broward, presents its fourth annual Heroes event, a fundraising concert and auction to benefit the blind and visually impaired in Broward County, at American Heritage Schools’ Center for the Arts auditorium, on Saturday, May 4 from 5-8 p.m. The event will be a speakeasy-themed soirée featuring singer Mitch Franco.

The Lighthouse of Broward is the only private, non-profit organization in Broward County that provides comprehensive educational, rehabilitation, and counseling services to blind and visually impaired children and adults. Through their work, the Lighthouse of Broward enhances the lives of people who are blind and visually impaired in Broward County and empowers them to live independent, healthy, employed, and fulfilling lives. All of the funds from the benefit concert and auction will ensure that the Lighthouse of Broward can continue to provide vital services to over 2,590 people throughout Broward County each year.

Attendees can enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres throughout the evening and participate in a live and silent auction benefiting the Lighthouse of Broward. Guests are encouraged to come dressed in their best Roaring Twenties ensemble.

For the First Time in South Florida, The Da Vinci Machines and Robotics Exhibition, curated by the Artisans of Florence and the Niccolai Group. The hands-on interactive exhibition features over sixty displays, including da Vinci’s Robot, dragonfly drone, bicycle, scuba suit, spring-powered car, Aerial Screw (precursor of the helicopter), hang glider, and the world’s first military tank.

This exhibit offers locals and visitors alike a chance to explore the minds of the greatest genius of all time through a hands-on interactive experience designed for all ages. On loan from the Museum of Leonardo da Vinci in Florence, Italy, the exhibit connects the past and the future with over sixty displays, including robots, war machines, flying contraptions, and civil and hydraulic inventions, alongside an extensive art gallery of reproduced masterpieces revealing da Vinci’s hand-drawn notes and designs.

The exhibit allows people to explore the mind of one of the greatest geniuses of all time, Leonardo da Vinci, and test his inventions. This experience allows participants a chance to not only enjoy the beautiful artworks da Vinci created but also showcase an immersive experience of the history and craftsmanship da Vinci has brought to artists all around the world.
