The mural painting is an invitational, combining experienced artists with emerging talent, to truly represent the exploding Miami street art scene. Inspired by the Spectrum 2014 theme of [inter.play], each mural will be a collaboration of two or more artists who will have no prior knowledge with whom they will be collaborating!

A portion of the art sales goes to support Life Is Art, with the rest going to the artists who will collectively share sales on all work in the community project. In addition, SPECTRUM Miami has committed to donate a portion of the Thursday Late Night proceeds to Life Is Art.

TeePop
Born in Pittsburgh, PA, Tee Davis began painting portraits at 6 years old & further developed her artistic talents at the Art Institute of Pennsylvania. Tee made her way to New York City, where she lived, worked, & painted for serval years before moving to Miami, FL. She received a degree in graphic design from International Fine Arts College.
Drawing on a deep love of music & pop culture, Tee has been fusing the styles of Pop, Street, & Graphic Design in her paintings of musicians, actors, & icons for more than two decades! Constantly gathering inspiration from music, culture & everyday life.

Ruben Ubiera
Ruben Gerardo Ubiera Gonzalez (born October 19, 1975 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) is a neo-figurative artist, known for his strong use of the line, graffiti inspired technique/esthetic, urban murals, mixed-media pieces and installations, all created with reclaimed-objects and found artifacts. He paints and draws in a style considered as Post graffism, but he prefers to call it urban-pop, since he has lived most of his life in urban, populated areas and most of his inspiration is derived from the interactivity between man and his urban environment. At the age of 1 5, his family moved to the Bronx, NY, where he was heavily influenced by the graffiti art that surrounded him, something he wouldn’t realize until much later in his life.
Ubiera’s paintings are, on first examination, noted for being charged with “skateboard-isms”, paint drips and the constant presence of graffiti in some shape or form. But, after closer inspection, one notices the detail, sarcastic contrast, the social commentary and human struggle that’s felt by the technique and subject matter.

Eleazar Delgado
Born in Oklahoma and raised in Caracas, Venezuela, Eleazar Delgado practiced Architecture and Interior Design. It was Miami’s radiant sunshine and the vibrant colors of the city that influenced his decision to become an artist. Among his accolades are Dade Heritage Trust selecting “Sunshine Culture” for the cover of their 2012 program, Miami Dade Preservation League chose “Joe Sent Me” for the official Art Deco Weekend poster. “Sea Grasses in the Sky”, a public mural in Downtown Miami delights thousands of commuters everyday, as it is visible from I-95.

Monique Lassooij
Monique Lassooij was born and raised in The Netherlands and moved several years ago to Miami, Florida. In The Netherlands Ms. Lassooij started out as an abstract painter but over the years she developed a passion for figurative painting. She attended the Royal Academy for Fine Arts in The Hague and has gone on to receive several commissions and can be found in public places such as the Town Hall of the city of Scheveningen in The Netherlands as well as in numerous private collections all over the world.
“My work explores the paradox in modern pop culture and society, sometimes clearly visible and sometimes through an underlining dichotomy interjected with humor.” Currently she is working on the “Proprietary Innocence” series. She noticed that children nowadays have a different way to communicate through a little box and they are not vocal about it. When they find something funny you will see a shrug in the shoulders and the typing of “LOL”. But if you distract them, they look at us from under their eyebrows, almost expression less, sometimes slightly annoyed as we disturb them in their communications.

Daniel Fila (aka Krave)
Daniel Fila, also known as Krave, is a multifaceted artist whose work ranges from mural installations to figurative and abstract paintings, animations, and urban sculpture using a range of mediums, techniques, and aesthetics. Fila is best known for his signature character, The Fresh Monkey, which he incorporates into most of his works, his semi-nude mural “Erin” and the subsequent series which it inspired, “The Sunbather”.
Although much of Fila’s street art can be found throughout Wynwood and the Miami Design District, Fila has ventured into Little Havana’s burgeoning art scene with a mural entitled “Ladies in White”, which was inspired by the Damas de Blanco, an opposition movement in Cuba, and a new project space, “El Fresco” where he currently works and collaborates.

Jay Bellicchi (aka REMOTE)
J. Bellicchi, a Boston native, moved to Miami in 2000. Shortly thereafter Jay started “FIFTYTHREE”, a limited edition T-shirt line. Jay adopted the name “FIFTYTHREE as his creative identity throughout the mid 2000’s. Later as Jay got back into graffiti art he revived an old name of his from back in Boston, “REMOTE”. Jay has since been painting walls, commissioned murals and fine art pieces throughout. Jay’s work has been featured in countless South Florida publications as well as some national and internationally distributed art books. Jay is the creator and co-founder of “GRAFF TOYZ” which was founded in 2010. GRAFF TOYZ creates graffiti inspired toys and art objects.

Hôtel Gaythering to Host “Queer Biennial I” – an Unabashed Exhibition of Queerness – During Art Basel Weekend

Miami Beach – November 18, 2014 – Definitely not your Grandma’s knit-one-purl-two, performance artist Ben Cuevas will knit himself a jock strap while nude as part of “Queer Biennial I,” an LGBT-focused art exhibition to be held during Art Basel Weekend at the Hôtel Gaythering. In addition to Cuevas knitting in the raw, “Queer Biennial I” will spotlight 35 artists and more than 100 pieces of art throughout the hotel property in what curator Rubén Esparza calls, “a national survey of the current moment in queer/LGBT culture from artists who do not shy away from sexuality, identity, the body or all around queerness.” “Queer Biennial I” is open to the public Thursday, December 4, to Sunday, December 7, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Hôtel Gaythering is located at 1409 Lincoln Road, Miami Beach.

Cuevas’ point to naked knitting? To comment on the absurdity of gendered notions of work. (http://bencuevas.com) Other artists exhibiting during “Queer Biennial I” include Gio Black Peter, a visual and performance artist whose works examine text and subject, truth and fakery, rebellion and authority. Black Peter’s art relies heavily on interaction with the viewer and his or her willingness to suspend rational thoughts and play into the believability of lies and falsehoods. (http://www.gioblackpeter.com)

Inspired equally by his landscape painting father and his singer/songwriter mother, Scooter LaForge (http://scooterlaforge.tumblr.com) honed his painting voice in the San Francisco and New York art scenes. Difficult to categorize or label, LaForge’s paintings are at once pop art with undertones of debauchery, and are definitely NSFW. Rick Castro’s films and photographs explore the world of fetish and the fringes of sexual culture. He describes his nudes as an antidote to his career in fashion as a wardrobe stylist and his films as an exploration of what may considered bizarre now, but will become the standard of the future. (http://www.rickcastro.com)

Neon sculpture artist Lili Lakich (http://www.lakich.com) views her artwork as drawings … lines that glow. Her illuminating works range from playful to sobering and run the gamut from female nudes to monumental sculptures. The shimmering, pulsing, luminous vibrancy of neon gives her sculptures a 21st century edge, despite the medium’s primal appeal. Multimedia artist, filmmaker and writer Slava Mogutin was exiled from his native Russia for his outspoken writings and LGBT activism. Fleeing to the U.S. in 1995, he became the first Russian to be granted political asylum in the U.S. on the grounds of homophobic persecution. Today, his visual art is inspired by that dissident background and encompasses themes of displacement and identity; transgression and disfiguration of masculinity and gender crossover; urban youth subcultures and adolescent sexuality; the clash of social norms and individual desires; and the tension between attachment and disaffection, hate and love.

Curator Esparza, who will be exhibiting some of his ad-themed visual pun artwork, came up with the idea of “Queer Biennial I” as a way to showcase emerging, mid-career and established Out / Queer / LGBT artists from the visual, performance and video art disciplines. In addition to being out and proud, these artists all have one thing in common: they are not afraid to venture into the realms of body, identity and eroticism.

“Every one of these artists is brave,” Esparza said. “They are uncompromising in their willingness to step outside the boundaries of polite society to create art that they are passionate about.”

“As Miami Beach’s only gay hotel, we wanted to bring an exhibition to the property during Art Basel that holds a mirror up to the LGBT community,” said Alex Guerra, co-owner and creative director for the Hôtel Gaythering, who will also be exhibiting during Queer Biennial. “After the exhibition’s debut showing in L.A. this summer, we knew ‘Queer Biennial I’ was a perfect fit and something we wanted the local and visiting LGBT community to experience.”

While queer-themed art is not for everyone, the prices of the art for sale to aficionados will be, Guerra says, as the artwork tops out at $2,000.

Other artists participating in “Queer Biennial I” include: Boston, Connie Fleming, JON VAZ GAR, Angela Gleason, Glen Hanson, Chasen Igleheart, Josef Jasso, Brian Kenny, Bruce LaBruce, Alex La Cruz, Jeremy Lucido, Ian MacKinnon, Dave Naz, Mel Odom, Miguel Angel Reyes, Robert W. Richards, Stuart Sandford, Tawnie Silva, Jacques Smith, AB Soto, SUPERM, Alonso Tapia, Joey Terrill, Maurice Vellekoop, Amy Von Harrington, Daniella Woolf, Rich Yap and Austin Young.

In addition to its run in conjunction with Art Basel, “Queer Biennial I” will be open at Hôtel Gaythering through January 14, 2015. For information, visit www.gaythering.com and click on the “events calendar” tab.

It’s That Time of Year Again!

MSP’s 2nd Annual “Gobble Giveaway”, focused on students and families in our community, is not only a way of providing Thanksgiving meals to families, but also a way to show kindness and support to those who are feeling the pain of poverty and misfortune. Last year, 13 families received a Publix Thanksgiving Dinner, with a meal cost of $39.99, and our numbers have increased. We expect to feed 45+ families this year. MSP relies on generous donations, from compassionate people like yourself, in order to provide this significant service to the less fortunate residents of our community.

Miami Contemporary Dance Company’s
Revamped Bolero & World Premiere of In Red Time

Friday, November 21, 2014 & Saturday, November 23, 2014 8:00 p.m.
The Colony Theatre,1040 Lincoln Rd, Miami Beach, FL 33139

Miami Contemporary Dance Company (MCDC) presents a revamped version of
Ray Sullivan’s Bolero and the WORLD PREMIERE of In Red Time. This double
bill of two entrancing performances will transport the audience to an alternate
reality that reflects our own. Ray Sullivan’s Bolero is set to Ravel’s famous
masterpiece and is revamped by MCDC’s dancers as they take the audience
through a theatrical world not so different from our own, where we are unsure if
we are puppets or leaders, followers or the flock and where, if released from our
ties, can go wild in jubilation or madness. In Red Time is Ray Sullivan’s
newest, never-before-seen creation, that is set in a poetic and surreal vision,
showing the journey of two people through time and life, who they meet and
love, and how they have lived along the way, even as time runs out, as time
turns to “Red Time”.

Celebrating its fourteenth year, Miami Contemporary Dance Company is a non-profit
organization dedicated to bringing international contemporary dance of the
highest level to the stage and is committed to furthering professional dance
education in Miami MCDC’s programs are made possible with the support of our
sponsors: Celestial Society members, John S. and James L. Knight Foundation
as part of its Knight Arts Challenge, Miami Beach Cultural Arts Council, Miami
Beach Commissioners and Mayor, Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural
Affairs, Cultural Affairs Council, Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners
and Mayor and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Greetings from the Con Artist Collective, an artist community with a gallery and shared workspace in New York’s Lower East Side. We’re getting ready for America’s most famous arts and culture bacchanal, Miami Art Basel 2014. We’re joining forces with Brooklyn’s Create Collect to produce “Festina Lente”, our five day festival of art and performance. This marks Con Artist’s second annual foray into the tropics in the name of Art Basel. We’re looking to double the success of last year with a private gallery space in the heart of Wynwood and a line up of cocktail parties, DJs, movie screenings, and a collaborative mural that will grow throughout the event with contributions by artists and guests.

Fresh from its Off-Broadway run, Miracle on South Division Street is the story of the Nowak family living amidst the urban rubble of Buffalo, NY’s East Side. Clara the family matriarch happily runs her soup kitchen and tends to the family heirloom, a twenty-foot shrine of the Blessed Mother, which adjoins the house. This beacon commemorated the day in 1942 that the Virgin Mary appeared to her father at his home-based barbershop. During the course of this very funny and original play, the entire family’s faith is shaken to the core as the family legend seems to be unraveling. The evening’s results are heartfelt and hilarious.

Performances are Wednesday – Saturday at 8 p.m., and Sunday at 3 p.m.
A special weekday matinee is scheduled on Wednesday, December 10 at 2 p.m.

Cost: $ 100.00 to $40.00

Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida will, once again embark on a journey to the Land of the Sweets, as they perform the traditional annual audience favorite, The Nutcracker based on the tale of Ernest Hoffman with Tchaikovsky’s popular score and choreographed and directed by Vladimir Issaev.
This is the most popular holiday story ever performed in the US. It tells the tale of a young girl, Clara, on Christmas Eve and the adventure she undertakes when her most cherished Christmas present, a nutcracker, comes to life. Together they battle the Mouse King, meet the Queen of Snow and travel to the Land of Sweets, where they encounter the always classic, Sugarplum Fairy.
Issaev’s engaging choreography preserves the Russian tradition and serves as an alternative to those who already have seen Balanchine’s version. Every year the production is enhanced, adding special effects like falling snow and a growing Christmas tree, which enchant children and adults, making each year a new experience for returning audiences.
The enthusiastic young company features a team of professional dancers performing the principal roles, as well as a community cast made up of local character artists and children for the party scene. The engaging choreography- from the fun of the party scene- to the harrowing battle scene- to the enchanting kingdom of the sweets- is guaranteed to entertain any age. Not only is it the most popular ballet enjoyed by all audiences around the world during this time of the year but it also serves as an introduction to ballet for the very young audiences.
The principal roles in The Nutcracker will be commanded by Arts Ballet’s new stars Takayuki Asai, Yukina Yasuhara, Hirofumi Kitazume, Lillian Hill, Ramil Bagmanov, Ben Cook, Saori Morioka, Elise Shea.

Vladimir Issaev’s holiday tradition will be presented in three magnificent venues: the Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theater, the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center and The Parker Playhouse of Fort Lauderdale.
You Can Join the Magical Adventure
As every year, the Opening Gala performance takes place at the Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theater, which celebrate the company’s seventeen years of making holiday magic. For VIP Patrons, the December 7th Gala will begin at 6:30 pm, with cocktails and hors Hors d’oeuvres, a reception with the international corps of dancers, and chances to bid on silent auction items such as Tiffany’s jewels, Spa Packages, Holiday baskets, Hilton Cabana’s weekend getaway, Disney packages, Sports memorabilia, and many more. For more information on how to participate visit www.artsballettheatre.org, or call (305) 948-4777

Engage in the holiday gift loved ones will always cherish. Don’t miss the opportunity to share the excitement and charm of the great tradition of the holidays with Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida during their extraordinary performances of “The Nutcracker.”

December 2 – 7, 2014 marks the opening of Zones Art Fair. We present a selection of events and shows that challenge traditional structures in performance and contemporary art: The “Planet Hollywood” of Newer Genres, Jan and Dave’s Improvisational Noise, and Performia Performance Art Festival. Please check our events calendar for full schedule.

Certain contemporary art practices—installation, performance, relational aesthetics, social sculpture et al.—are notoriously hard to document or commodify. The “Planet Hollywood” of Newer Genres questions how these practices fit in to our dominant culture of object display. Here, objects that exist as a facilitator of an action or document of a non-object based art happening are displayed in an evolving installation that attempts to graft a provisional emanation to an indexical remnant. The fair opens to the public December 2 with a reception December 5. There will be spontaneous and scheduled (see website) performances throughout the week. Artists include Julia Sinelnikova, Jen Clay, Jamie Thomas Marsh, James Mayhew, Sophia Park, Kalan Sherrard, Leyla Mozayen, Bruno Giuliani, Varvara Voetskova, Dino Real, Kathryn Marks, Jon Konkol, Maria paz Valenzuela, Kevin Blackstone, Antoinette Suiter, House of Gunt, SSTR, Local Honey, DAZZLESTORM!, Michael Anthony Farley, Ellen Degenerate, Poncili Creacion, and Ellen Turrietta, and Vincent Tiley. The “Planet Hollywood” of Newer Genres is curated by Liz Ferrer and Michael Anthony Farley two artists whose practice combine performance, image/object making, events and curation.

YoungArts and MoMA PS1 partner once again, this time to present Zero Tolerance: Miami curated by MoMA PS1 Director and Chief Curator at Large of MoMA, Klaus Biesenbach, with MoMA PS1 Curatorial Assistant Margaret Aldredge. Named for the 1990s policy under which New York City took a tough stance against vice and crime, Zero Tolerance: Miami brings together works by artists from across the globe that address tensions between freedom and control. Following Zero Tolerance’s initial presentation in New York, the exhibition at YoungArts makes these global concerns relevant to Miami by inviting artists whose work reflects issues of political dissidence, urban redevelopment, social policy and gay rights to participate. Taken together, the artists represented in Zero Tolerance: Miami continue YoungArts’ commitment to cultural vitality while presenting art of a charged and ambivalent nature, responding to concerns specific in place and time.

The artists in Zero Tolerance: Miami include: YoungArts alumnus Doug Aitken, ACT UP New York, Joseph Beuys, Mircea Cantor, Chim↑Pom, Igor Grubić, Sharon Hayes, Deborah Kelly, Amal Kenawy, Yoko Ono, Pussy Riot, Christoph Schlingensief, Voina, and many more.

November 1 2, 201 4 – Brooklyn, NY – Art Market Productions is excited to announce the third edition of Miami Project, returning to Miami’s Midtown Art District from December 2 – 7, 201 4. Located in the Miami Project Pavilion on NE 34th Street & NE 1 st Avenue, Miami Project will again bring the best in contemporary and modern art from sixty-seven of the country’s top galleries to the heart of the Wynwood design district. We are thrilled to continue working with a significant number of our 201 2 and 201 3 dealers and to welcome new, exciting additions to the fair.

Miami Project has once again emerged as a platform for museum quality work presented by dealers who have defined excellence in the art market for decades. Alongside our continued commitment to mid-career and emerging artists, we will feature exceptional pieces by modernist masters. First time Miami Project dealer Lennon, Weinberg will show major works on paper by Joan Mitchell. DC Moore Gallery will present historical work by Milton Avery, Romare Bearden, and Charles Burchfield, and Tibor de Nagy will exhibit important work by Jane Freilicher and Fairfield Porter. Bridging modern and contemporary, Catharine Clark Gallery will present a survey of work by Masami Teraoka from 1 967 to today, including the debut of the artist’s early minimalist work on paper. Pavel Zoubok Gallery will feature work by two very contemporary artists, with a fresh-from-the-studio Mark Wagner currency collage and new sculpture by Vanessa German. Deborah Butterfield is creating new sculpture, including two full-scale horses welded from found metal, for this year’s Miami Project to be presented in a solo exhibition with the Greg Kucera Gallery. We look forward to giving our fair-goers the opportunity to experience the avant-garde of the 20th century shown beside the vanguard of today.

As always, Miami Project’s cultural partners are an essential component of our art fair programming. We are honored to continue our collaboration with an excellent group of institutions and arts organizations. With several new cultural partners joining Miami Project this year, the fair’s third iteration stands to be the most creative and compelling to date. We are pleased to announce that 1 stdibs, the industry’s leading online platform for commerce

and connoisseurship, will sponsor Miami Project’s VIP Preview on Tuesday, December 2nd from 5:30-10:00 pm, joining sponsors The Wall Street Journal and Perrier in helping us create an exciting and extremely visible event for Miami’s arts community. Drawing on their market knowledge, the success of their previous fairs, and their network of national resources and advisors, Art Market Productions’ founders Max Fishko and Jeffrey Wainhause are thrilled to continue contributing to the artistic dialog of Miami, providing the public with an elegantly curated and thoughtfully produced presentation of the country’s best art. Both principals look forward to welcoming back active collectors and igniting interest in new patrons.

Mad Hatter Arts Festival 2014 at The Barnacle Historic State Park on Saturday, November 15, 2014.

Art Show: The Mad Hatter Arts Festival is a fun, zany art and music festival, held each autumn in the historic village of Coconut Grove, located on lovely Biscayne Bay. “The Grove” has a deep Bohemian history of quirky artists and musicians. In fact, the name of the festival draws its inspiration from a popular 1970s song Coconut Grove written by John Sebastian of the internationally famous group, the Lovin’ Spoonful.

The two-day event celebrates its tenth year on Saturday, November 15 and Sunday, November 16, with artists exhibiting on the grounds of The Barnacle Historic State Park and on the sidewalks along Main Highway. Other components of the Festival can be seen around the Grove. Bring your friends, bring your family, and join the fun “…in Coconut Grove.”

Life and Death in ART BASEL by PL0T & Poplife
Officially Hosted by “Aquabooty”

From December 4th through December 7th Miami will host the 13th annual edition of Art Basel; one of the biggest and most important art gatherings worldwide. Over the past 3 years a unique response has grown for Art Basel within a very select group of artists and labels from the music industry who know about quality; making this the showcasing home and most influential period for Electronic Music in Miami in our opinion. Made for those who know.

Life and Death and PL0T have been pioneering this movement and its 3rd showcase is coming up. On Thursday December 4th, after their very successful second encounter during Art Basel 2014, PL0T will team up with its acclaimed partner label LIFE AND DEATH; and for the first time ever they will join forces with long time Miami Indie trailblazers from POPLIFE. Together they will bring to life the third edition of their Art Basel series of events. Starring Dixon, Mind Against, Thugfucker, Vaal (US Debut), DJ Tennis, Bob Moses and Recondite LIVE. The event will be hosted by “Aquabooty”, Dixon’ s long time promoter in the Miami scene.

After a very booming year and improbable events in the universe Life and Death returns to its beloved Miami, colluding with PL0T and Poplife to challenge themselves upon the creation of a materialized encounter, and sliding us through their diverse worlds blazing between life and death. Based on the vision of bringing the puzzling and undisguised sounds of the label to full sensory dimension, this 10 hour affair shall not resemble a conventional club night nor yet another label showcase. This year with a distinct and noteworthy twist to it… they will be welcoming INNERVISIONS own DIXON as their first special guest, and debuting the label’s star VAAL, alongside the already unshakable label legends. Expect mind-boggling music, Life and Death’s distinct art direction and a physical transformation of Grand Central and The Garret’s performance areas, all of which will be equipped with cutting edge sound, including the club’s own custom Adamson Sound System, to ensure that patrons and art aficionados alike will enjoy the full spectrum of this exquisite multi-sensory experience.

UNTITLED., an international art fair to be held in Miami Beach, announces its vernissage and benefit, its list of exhibitors and programming highlights for its third edition from December 3 to 7, 2014.

At the vernissage on Monday, December 1, UNTITLED. will honor ACRIA, a leading research and education organization working to help people with HIV and AIDS live longer, healthier lives. For more than 20 years, ACRIA has been championed tirelessly by the arts community. Ryan McGinley will host the UNTITLED. vernissage, where a limited-edition print by the artist will be available for sale to benefit ACRIA. On Tuesday, December 2, UNTITLED. will hold a Press Preview from 1 pm to 3 pm, and a VIP Preview from 3 pm to 7 pm. (All these events are by invitation only).

UNTITLED. is proud to welcome exhibitors from across the country and globe. Over 200 artists represented in galleries and non-profit art spaces from 16 US cities and 18 countries are on the 2014 roster. Carefully selected by UNTITLED.’s 2014 curatorial team, led by Artistic Director Omar López-Chahoud with curators Christophe Boutin and Melanie Scarciglia, the list of exhibitors will present the works of emerging and established contemporary artists.
In addition to its roster of international exhibitors, UNTITLED. will feature a series of special projects, conversations, performances and events.
Programming highlights

This year’s UNTITLED. catalog is conceived as an artist book and will be published in a limited edition of 1,000 numbered copies. This simple box containing folders and gallery information will mimic a box of press clips focusing on the international profile of the fair.
A series of artist’s posters will additionally be produced and distributed for free to the visitors, including two works from the Toilet Paper series by Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari. Lawrence Weiner, Lisa Anne Auerbach, Jonathan Monk, Elvire Bonduelle, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, Slavs and Tatars among others will also create original posters for the public.

Loosely based on Hyde Park’s Speakers’ Corner, UNTITLED. TALKS, animated by artist Sean Micka, will create a new space in the heart of the fair where art history will collide with performance, controversy, culture, diatribe and debate with a strong dose of energy.
Furthermore, the Paris-based publisher onestar press is inviting artists Douglas Navarra, Nicole Cherubini, Pier Stockholm, and Silvina Arismendi among others for a publication in their prestigious artist’s books collection.

Publicar V (2010), a special project by Paul Ramírez Jonas, will be presented by Koenig & Clinton, New York. The artist states, “There are two voices that inscribe public space. One is ours and it is ephemeral, improvised, and temporal. The other one is the state’s and it tries to be permanent and monumental. Their voice is of stone and bronze. Our voice is cork: capable of accommodating us all—even if for a short time. All we need is a scrap of paper, a pen, and a thumbtack to publish our voice.”

Conceptual French artist Mathieu Mercier will present new works exclusively made for the fair and will be showcased by Denis Gardarin Inc. Using everyday objects to explore ideas of the line between functionality and artistic purposelessness, Mercier’s work investigates key tropes of modern art and design. Founded in 2002, New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA) is a not-for-profit collective of professionals working with contemporary art. Our mission is to create an open flow of information, support, and collaboration within our field and to develop a stronger sense of community among our constituency. NADA’s fair is held in parallel with Art Basel Miami Beach and is recognized as a much needed alternative assembly of the world’s youngest and strongest art galleries dealing with emerging Contemporary Art. It is the only major American art fair to be run by a non-profit organization.

Our international group of members includes both galleries and individuals (art professionals, independent curators, and established gallery directors). The various perspectives and ideas offered by our diverse roster creates a network which, at its most basic, is a resource which people could contribute to and take as much (or as little) as they are inclined. The benefits for some may be a matter of business, for others a source of intellectual or aesthetic stimulation.

To date, our initiatives have succeeded on two fronts: making the contemporary arts more accessible for the general public, and creating opportunities that nurture the growth of emerging artists, curators, and galleries. Our EVENTS have included: artist talks/gallery walks with critics and curators; benefits in support of charitable institutions; members-only seminars to stimulate dedication and ethics in our profession; and an annual art fair in Miami, which is held in December and is free and open to the public.

Grovetoberfest 2014 Photographs and Recap

The epic Grovetoberfest, the “most scenic beer festival in the world”, returned for the fourth time to Coconut Grove and served over 300 great beers from across the world.  Over 7,000 beer enthusiasts showed up to pound some brewskis, eat some food, dance, smile and laugh. Grovetoberfest is all about the craft beer and has a strong focus on the local craft beer scene. Some of Miami’s top chefs like Chef Todd Haven and Chef Giorgio Rapacavoli rocked the Kitchen Lab, where they demonstrated gourmet cooking with craft beer. Beer Tasting 101 was hosted by FIU’s Beer Academy and taught newbies the basics of craft beer tasting. People were also dancing to the live music all day long. Grovetoberfest is always a blast and if you missed it we feel sorry for you. Fear not though, because Sprung Beer Festival  is right around the corner in March!

Glory House of Miami, a non-profit organization, will host the “Home Sweet Home” event in an effort to create awareness and and raise the necessary funds to provide a home for 18-25 year old female survivors of sex trafficking.

Popular television and Radio Personality, Rick Sanchez, will serve as Master of Ceremonies at this purpose-driven event and among the evening’s talents are: Monique Abbadie, finalist in NBC’s “The Voice”; Jazmin, International Singer with Sono Rec Productions; Rudy Gil, formerly of Secret Society; Louis Amanti, International Jazz singer; Tony Swing, International American Singer/Actor; and more celebrity surprises soon to be announced!

VIP guests will include: City of Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado; Katherine Fernandez-Rundle – Miami-Dade County State Attorney (to be confirmed); Susan Dechovitz – Director of Human Trafficking Task Force, Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office (to be confirmed); Dawn Thompson – Assistant Executive Director, Kristi House; Alberto Carvalho – Superintendent of Miami-Dade County Public Schools (to be confirmed); Detective Lorraine Szczepanik – Strategic Investigations Division ICAC/Human Trafficking, Broward County Sheriff’s Office.

Approximately 27 million men, women, and children are enslaved and trafficked worldwide. Florida is one of the top destinations for trafficking victims in the United States, along with New York and California. Distressingly, in Miami alone, $235 million dollars are generated through the exploitation of adults, teens, and children held captive in this city. Children are targeted through deceptive tactics employed by recruiters and the average age of entry is at the tender age of twelve.

“Human Trafficking, the commercial sexual exploitation of another human being, is a despicable crime whose victims inevitably suffer physical and psychological trauma” says State Attorney, Katherine Fernandez-Rundle. And she adds “Those individuals and community groups that reach out to assist victims of Human Trafficking deserve our support and commendation — Glory House is to be applauded for its determination to see that victims have a sanctuary when they break the chains binding them to their trafficker.”

The “Home Sweet Home” event is designed to raise the needed funds to provide a home and safe environment where rescued victims may be healed and fully restored. Glory House of Miami’s “Home Sweet Home” will offer medical, spiritual, mental health, social, legal support; reintegration, education, arts, vocational training, job and life skills training to recover and give these 18-25 year old female survivors a second chance at rebuilding their lives.

“The success of this wonderful event will bring us one step closer to our goal of acquiring a permanent long-term safe home for the sex traffic survivors, where their basic needs will be provided for in addition to professional counseling to get them on the road to healing and restoration” comments Betty Lara, Executive Director of Glory House of Miami. She adds,”community support is an essential component — every ticket purchased will help to make a difference.”

The event agenda will include a 15-minute presentation on Human Trafficking, raffles, high-end auction items and raffles.

Event tickets are $25 per person in advance; $30 per person at the door and they may be purchased through Glory House of Miami at http://www.eventbrite.com/e/a-home-sweet-home-tickets-13705667019 or by calling 786.286.9958.

About Glory House of Miami:

The Glory House of Miami is a Christ-centered a 501(c) (3) charitable non-profit organization devoted to healing and restoring the lives of those who have suffered the abuse and exploitation of sex trafficking.

In August of 2011 our eyes were opened to the sex trafficking industry and the shocking truth that the trade is thriving in our own backyard. Around the world, approximately 27 million men, women, and children are enslaved and trafficked. Florida is commonly cited along with New York and California as being one of the top destinations for trafficking victims in the United States, but in Miami alone, $235M is generated through the exploitation of captive adults and children.
These facts hung heavy in our hearts, and our mission became to provide a safe home and healing environment where rescued victims will regain their freedom and health, and where they can become wholly restored through a faith-based approach.

Glory House of Miami provides long-term service to rescued female victims between the ages of 18-25 years.

Seed Wine and Food Festival Photographs and Recap

Miami pushed aside its addiction to Cuban food to exuberantly welcome the first annual Seed Food & Wine Festival.  It was a five day Vegan immersion focusing on healthy and delicious plant-based foods. The festival itself was held for one day in a giant tent, normally reserved for Art Basel shows. The tent was packed with vendors and attendees. The fest was glorious with scrumptious food, sweets, ice cream, juices, sauces, books, education, celebrities and beautiful people. The energy at the event was so amazing and we were thrilled to be a part of it. We can not wait for the second annual Seed Fest.

The 2013 smash debut of Mouse King featured two sold-out shows. Lovers of what is sure to become a new holiday classic, conceived by Sesame Street veteran Noel MacNeal and featuring music by South Florida composer Jim Camacho, will now have three chances to take it in. Premiere night at Mandelstam Theater (8530 SW 57th Ave, South Miami, FL 33143) is Friday, December 12, at 7 p.m., followed by a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday, December 13 and Sunday, December 14. Tickets for Mouse King cost $20 and can be purchased online at http://mousekingtickets.com or by phone by calling 800.838.3006.

Mouse King, a delightfully entertaining family-friendly production, revisits the story of the seasonal favorite The Nutcracker from the mice point of view. The tale chronicles the story of prince Mouserick, the future ruler of the Kingdom of Sweets, and his struggles with Krakatuck, the human who wants to get rid of all vermin and become the king himself. The court magician Astrolog guides the young mouse king along the way and through some highly entertaining encounters and musical adventures.

“We’re excited about bringing Mouse King back this year,” offers MacNeal. “The reaction from the crowd during the performances last year plus the feedback we received after indicated to us that we have something truly special.” Says Camacho: “I’m honored to once again be working with Noel in bringing a new holiday tradition back to life. We’re looking forward to this year’s run.”

The cast also includes Jim Henson Company alum James Wojtal, Jr., puppeteer and stage veteran Arlee Chadwick, along with child actors, professional actors and puppets. The 2013 original cast recording featuring 13 original songs by Camacho is available online at www.MouseKingMusic.com. For more information, visit www.JimCamacho.com.

City Theatre will serve up a sizzling series of Florida-inspired short plays entitled Swamp Shorts on Monday, November 17 from 6 – 7:30 p.m. at Miami Book Fair International’s newest attraction The Swamp.

The Swamp is a pop-up lounge (think Jimbo’s meets the Delano) that showcases Florida stories, music, dance, film, history, and art. All week long, Swamp events exploring the beauty, contradictions, uniqueness, and downright “weirdness” of life in Florida will be offered free of charge.

As a partner of Miami Book Fair International and the Center for Theatre and Literature at Miami Dade College, City Theatre was asked to solicit and curate a selection of shorts plays that align with The Swamp’s mission to reflect the personalities that animate Florida’s, and specifically Miami’s, cultural scene. A call for scripts was sent to homegrown playwrights, resulting in City Theatre’s Swamp Shorts, a vibrant one-night-only collection of readings of new short plays written by South Florida playwrights near and far, that celebrate the stories, characters, patois and sabor of the local community and Sunshine State.

Directed by City Theatre Guest Artist Gail Garrison, Swamp Shorts will be performed by The Swamp Troupe Acting Ensemble: Joshua Jean Baptiste, Ashley Chang, Chasity Hart, Andres Maldonado, David Kwiat, Jessica Brooke Sandford, Karen Stephens and Michael Uribe.

The Swamp Shorts play line-up includes:

Risen from the Dough by France-Luce Benson
Two Haitian sisters own a local bakery and learn that running a business in Miami is more than they expected.

Hey Girl by Jessica Farr
An encounter between a woman and a man waiting for a bus goes bad. Very bad.

Sand and Sam by Lauren Feldman
A woman mourning the death of a grandparent gets an assist from an understanding rabbi and a helpful gravedigger.

The Crocodile’s Bite by Vanessa Garcia
Four characters, all immigrants to the city, connect and collide one night in Miami.

A Pair of Miami Monologues by Gail Garrisan
A South Florida perspective on how to get from here to there, and how to look the part.

Roof by Ricky J. Martinez
A scene from a new full-length play set on a rooftop overlooking Biscayne Blvd.

Swamp Girl by Marj O’Neill-Butler
A South Florida single who’s more comfortable clubbing, considers an invitation for a blind date to the Everglades.

Two of the region’s literary disrupters combine to present this free event from 6 – 7:30 p.m. on Monday, November 17 at The Swamp, located in the big tent at the Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus on the southeast corner of NE Third Street and Second Avenue. Craft beers, food trucks and fun take place on The Swamp Porch prior to and following Swamp Shorts. Free parking is available in the adjacent garage.

What is the most direct link between the art week in Basel and Miami? The answer came curiosly by an Italian painter – Guido Buganza – that this year brings in Miami a collection of paintings inspired by his last trip in the Swiss city during Art Basel. But the artistic challenge is still open, because the exhibition – project aims to bring in Basel 2015 a series of paintings that will be created by the vibrations of the trip to Miami during these December.

The project, at its first edition this year, is a bet on the future that aims to create a potentially infinite exhibition in the cities symbol of art in the world.

The exhibition is at The Hangar Gallery, Wynwood, Miami, from 3 to 31 December 2014.

Take a CHANCE ! Taking a chance is at the heart of every CreativeMornings chapter. It’s a chance the organizers take to start their own chapter, the chance a speaker takes to share their story and, of course, the chance the attendees take to get up early in the morning and listen.

This November, we’re celebrating those uncertainties and risks with the theme of Chance and our speaker Robin Hill, photographer for architecture and design.

2014 begins my 28th year as a professional photographer. Back in 2006 I had the good fortune of spending a few hours with my hero, Julius Shulman at the opening of the Glass House in New Canaan, Connecticut. He was 96 years old and still working and was in his 7th decade as a photographer which always helps to give me some perspective. (which as an Architectural Photographer is a very handy thing!) I’m deeply passionate about my chosen field and strongly believe in the power of design to affect our lives in a profound way. I see myself as being an integral part of the design community and my tool is photography. I’ve been very fortunate to have worked with some of the top names in the field, and much of the force of their creative work is displayed throughout the website.

Tiger Direct Tech Bash 2014 at Marlins Park on Friday, November 7, 2014.

“The TigerDirect Tech Bash aims to reach a young professional consumer and business executive audience. This end-user facing, pre-holiday showcase will include the top premier brands in the consumer electronics industry, local tech start-ups, and the Miami business community.”

HISTORY

“In November 2012, the inaugural Tech Bash was held to celebrate the launch of Windows 8 and the new OEM computer lines with an interactive, food and drink fueled party with over 4,000 attendees.

In May 2013, a “Tech Summit” was held in conjunction with a traditional training symposium, showcasing 50 vendors in a tradeshow format with over 1,500 business and consumer attendees. Light fare and cocktails plus various activities in tow.

Our customers desire for more tech events in South Florida, combined with the ever-changing face of consumer electronics, we determined that a combination of the two would provide a great customer experience. Our vendors showcasing the latest in technology, interactive displays, an integration of music & art, as well as other emerging technologies.”
