Join Wonder Paws Rescue for its annual charity golf tournament on Saturday, October 17 at Jacaranda Golf Club, where every swing helps save animals in need. The OUTshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival Fall Edition presents the heartfelt drama Mouse (United States, 2026), its Ladies’ Spotlight Film, on Oct. 17., at 7:15 p.m., at Paradigm Cinemas: Gateway Fort Lauderdale. An afterparty will follow the screening.

It’s the summer of 2002, and high school senior Minnie has always lived in the shadow of her charismatic best friend, Callie. When their lifelong friendship unexpectedly unravels, Minnie is forced to navigate the uncertainty of adolescence on her own. Drawn into an unexpected relationship with Callie’s elegant mother while forging a connection with a new queer friend, Minnie begins to discover her own identity beyond the expectations of others. Featuring standout performances including Sophie Okonedo and David Hyde Pierce, Mouse is a tender, funny, and beautifully observed coming-of-age story about friendship, first love, grief, and the courage to embrace your authentic self.

The film runs 120 minutes.

The OUTshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival returns for its Fall Edition running October 15 – 25, 2026, in South Florida. This edition brings more than 20 new international, North American, East Coast and Florida premieres from 20 countries to Broward and Miami-Dade counties! Buckle down for the return of the intriguing OUTshine After Dark, a thrilling Halloween-themed Centerpiece Film and afterparty, a locally-produced documentary sneak preview and more special events, filmmaker panels and surprises created to unite South Florida cinephiles.

The OUTshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival Fall Edition presents romantic drama Flesh & Fuel (France, Poland, 2026), its Men’s Spotlight Film, on Oct. 17., at 7 p.m., at Paradigm Cinemas: Gateway Fort Lauderdale. An afterparty will follow the screening.

Étienne spends most of his life behind the wheel of his truck, crossing highways and sleeping in roadside parking lots. Bound to the solitude and relentless demands of life on the road, his romantic encounters are fleeting and anonymous. Everything changes when he meets Bartosz, a Polish truck driver whose warmth and openness awaken feelings Étienne has long kept buried. As their connection deepens across rest stops, video calls, and stolen moments together, the two men struggle to sustain a relationship shaped by distance, economic pressures, and the isolating realities of their profession. Together, they must decide whether love can survive a life always in motion.

The film runs 91 minutes and is in English, French, and Polish.

VSW Fashion Store will present “ORIGEN,” its new Fall-Winter collection, during Miami Fashion Week, bringing to the runway a celebration of Venezuelan identity, migration and the powerful connection to one’s roots.

With the macaw at the heart of the collection’s visual and creative narrative, “ORIGEN” draws inspiration from one of Venezuela’s most iconic birds to tell a story of movement, transformation and belonging. Its strength, freedom and vivid colors become a symbol for those who have flown far from home while continuing to carry their memories, culture and identity with them.

The collection brings this distinctly Venezuelan story into conversation with the season’s leading Fall-Winter trends. The runway will feature jackets, skirts, dresses, accessories and boots, along with a mix of seasonal textures, prints and colors reinterpreted through VSW’s contemporary creative lens.

“ORIGEN was born from a feeling so many of us know: leaving home, starting over and evolving without forgetting where we came from. We wanted to translate that experience into fashion and tell a story in which every color, texture and detail could reconnect us with Venezuela,” said Claudia Varesano, founder of VSW Fashion Store.

The presentation also comes at an exciting moment of growth for Verasano, who recently returned from New York Fashion Week, where she attended exclusive industry events, connected with members of the fashion community and continued introducing VSW to new audiences and spaces. The experience marks another step in the brand’s evolution, with aspirations of returning to New York in the future to present a VSW collection of its own.

More than a seasonal collection, “ORIGEN” uses fashion as a vehicle for memory, cultural expression and belonging. The award-winning Island City Stage launches its 15th anniversary season in outrageous celebratory style! Get set for a raucous ride paying homage to everyone’s favorite drama queen, Joan Crawford, in the theater company’s revival of the hit world premiere of Michael Leeds’ Who Killed Joan Crawford? The show runs October 1 – 25 with tickets on sale now.

On a dark, stormy night in 1993, five men arrive at a cabin for a soap star’s surprise birthday party. Each guest has been asked to dress as the birthday boy’s favorite actress, Joan Crawford, in one of her signature roles… and the results aren’t pretty! As they wait for the star, the five “Joans” begin drinking and dishing. Dark secrets emerge and soon there’s one Joan less … and then another… leaving the remaining Joans — and the audience — asking, “Who Killed Joan Crawford?!”

The show is both written and directed by Michael Leeds. Leeds began his career performing on Broadway under the direction of such luminaries as Gower Champion, Ron Field, and Martin Scorsese before moving into directing, choreographing and writing. As a writer/director, Leeds is perhaps best known for writing and directing Swinging On A Star on Broadway, which received a Tony Award nomination for Best Musical. His plays also include The First Step, Impressions, The Gift, Starmaker, and his adaptation of Cole Porter’s Red, Hot And Blue which he directed at both Goodspeed Opera and PaperMill Playhouse as well as co-writing book, music and lyrics for Mating Habits of the Urban Mammal which has had productions throughout the country. For film, Leeds’ history with director Linda Yellen began when he choreographed End of Summer starring Jacqueline Bisset and Peter Weller. Since then he co-wrote with Yellen, The Simian Line starring William Hurt, Lynn Redgrave and Tyne Daly, The Last Film Festival starring Dennis Hopper and Jacqueline Bisset, Showtime’s Fluidity starring Nico Tortorella, and Chantilly Bridge, starring Lindsay Crouse, Jill Eikenberry, Ally Sheedy, Talia Shire, Patricia Richardson, Helen Slater and JoBeth Williams (Paramount+). His latest film, an adaptation of Stewart Lewis’s YA book, One Stupid Thing, starring Corey Fogelmanis (Girl Meets World), Skye Katz (Surviving Summer) and Jack White was awarded Best Picture at the Boston International Film Festival, Best Feature at the Edinburgh Film Festival, and is currently a semi-finalist in the London International Filmmakers Festival. As a director, aside from his Broadway credits, Leeds directed and choreographed the production of Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah – The Songs of Allan Sherman for which he was nominated for a Drama Desk Award for Best Director/Best Choreographer. Other Off Broadway credits include Showing Off, the York Theatre’s revivals of 70, Girls, 70 and Lerner & Lane’s Carmelina which he adapted with the original book writer Joe Stein. His production of the European premiere of Arthur Miller’s Playing For Time won the prestigious Edinburgh Fringe Festival First Award. He also directed and choreographed A Little Night Music for the Houston Grand Opera and Marc Blitzstein’s Regina for Florida Grand Opera. In South Florida, he’s directed at GableStage, Palm Beach DramaWorks, Broward Stage Door Theatre and Island City Stage where he is associate artistic director. His many productions there have earned him South Florida’s highest honors: the Carbonell, Remy and Silver Palm Awards.

Island City Stage’s 2026 revival production of Who Killed Joan Crawford? stars Michael Coppola (Harvey Goldberg), Luke Di Liddo (David Hoch), Christopher Dreeson (Stewart Fry), Jay Eisler (Trick Roberts), Bruce Linser (Gene Harlowe) and Stephen Trovillion (Leo Lawrence).

History Fort Lauderdale, committed to preserving our collective heritage, promoting historical literacy, and fostering a sense of pride and stewardship for the vibrant tapestry of our region’s history, will present its Hispanic Heritage Month fifth anniversary exhibit, “Viva Fort Lauderdale: Celebrating Hispanic Art & Culture.” The free fine art exhibit, running from Thursday, September 17, through Sunday, October 25, will feature work from local award-winning artists-in-residence including Florencia Clement de Grandprey (Spain), Isabel Perez Salazar (Venezuela), and Lifrancis Rojas (Venezuela). New this year will be sculptures from Norman Silva (Nicaragua). The exhibit will be available to view at History Fort Lauderdale’s New River Inn (231 Southwest Second Avenue).

History Fort Lauderdale’s “Viva Fort Lauderdale” is sponsored by the following funds at the Community Foundation of Broward: Jan and Ed Crocker Unrestricted Fund, Leo M. and Alice J. Rutten Fund and The Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation Broward Community Fund. History Fort Lauderdale hosts a variety of engaging multicultural experiences, year-round. Galleria Fort Lauderdale presents The Poppy Project Pop-Up Living Garden in support of Henderson Behavioral Health (HBH) in collaboration with the USS Fort Lauderdale (LPD28) Support Committee. This public art initiative is designed to honor veterans while raising awareness and funds for critical mental health services. Shoppers can take colorful photos and selfies to share online and connect with and donate to HBH’s virtual Legacy Wall which encourages friends and families to honor loved ones who have served or are currently serving our country. The cherished photo opportunity with the larger-than-life artistic poppy flowers will run through November 10 at Galleria Fort Lauderdale (2414 East Sunrise Blvd.).

Designed by South Florida based Ingham Landscaping and presented by Galleria Fort Lauderdale, the two-month living garden will be a colorful and lively setting featuring the five-and 6-foot striking handcrafted fiberglass poppy flowers which are a remembrance of those who protect and serve our country. The inside mall garden will include a variety of tropical ornamental plants and shrubs that will complement the artistic poppy works of art.

Adding to the installation, will be “Soldier Stories,” an exclusive exhibition by award-winning artist Marilyn Johansen honoring veterans and the military. Visitors will also be encouraged to select free postcards and add a personal message to current servicemen and women. This special moment is arranged by the USS Fort Lauderdale (LPD28) Support Committee. Special retail offers will coincide with this community project.

Inspired by the poppy’s historical significance as a symbol of sacrifice, rooted in the World War I poem “In Flanders Fields,” and later adopted as a national emblem of remembrance, HBH’s The Poppy Project brings this tradition to life in a local and meaningful way.
