Series arc: CONFRONT — OBSERVE — PROTECT

October 14 — LAND: From Waste to Regrowth.We’ll explore Miami’s waste story, from landfills and plastics to how we can become more circular, drawing on solutions from the past. Using reclaimed materials, you’ll create a landscape that holds both the damage and the regrowth. The past is something we can be better than. Creative prompt:What happens to a landscape after we change it?
October 21 — WATER: What Water Remembers. We’ll begin with a short waterfront walk and a look at the Bay’s ecology and the ongoing Water Study in the Everglades. Together we’ll consider water, wildlife, boating, noise, and pollution, and the moments when reduced human activity helped us notice our urban ecosystems differently. Natural Earth Paint materials may be introduced if available. Creative Prompt: If water could speak, what would it say to us?
October 28 — ROOTS: What Was Here Before Us? We’ll focus on native South Florida plants and wildlife, Indigenous presence and sovereignty, stewardship, gratitude and responsibility to place.Creative prompt:Create a portrait of something you believe deserves to remain here.
Visit the exhibition: These workshops take place while Atelierlustig’s exhibition and artist residency are on view at the gallery. Their show connects closely with our sustainability themes where they explore de-centering the human and the post-anthropocentric theory. So come early to explore before we begin!

Format: 90–120 minutes, 6:30–8:30 PM. Each session includes 10 minutes of environmental story or local context, 10–15 minutes for the creative prompt and examples, 60–75 minutes of making, and 15 minutes for informal sharing and discussion.

The OUTshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival Fall Edition presents the horror-thriller No Rest for the Wicked (Faroe Islands, 2026), its Centerpiece Film, on Oct. 21., at 7:30 p.m., at Savor Cinema Fort Lauderdale. A Halloween-themed afterparty will follow the screening.

Faroe Islands, 1862. Young fisherman Baldur lives a quiet, isolated existence shaped by tradition, faith, and the unforgiving North Atlantic. His world is transformed when Helge, a rugged whaler, arrives in the remote village. Drawn to one another, the two men begin a passionate but forbidden relationship, forced to keep their growing love hidden from a deeply conservative community. When tragedy strikes, fear and superstition grip the island, unleashing forces both natural and supernatural. As suspicion and intolerance intensify, Baldur and Helge must fight to protect their love against a society determined to destroy it, even as dark and ancient powers awaken around them.

The film is in Faroese and English with English subtitles and runs 103 minutes.

The OUTshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival returns for its Fall Edition running October 15 – 25, 2026, in South Florida. This edition brings more than 20 new international, North American, East Coast and Florida premieres from 20 countries to Broward and Miami-Dade counties! Buckle down for the return of the intriguing OUTshine After Dark, a thrilling Halloween-themed Centerpiece Film and afterparty, a locally-produced documentary sneak preview and more special events, filmmaker panels and surprises created to unite South Florida cinephiles.

History Fort Lauderdale, committed to preserving our collective heritage, promoting historical literacy, and fostering a sense of pride and stewardship for the vibrant tapestry of our region’s history, will present its Hispanic Heritage Month fifth anniversary exhibit, “Viva Fort Lauderdale: Celebrating Hispanic Art & Culture.” The free fine art exhibit, running from Thursday, September 17, through Sunday, October 25, will feature work from local award-winning artists-in-residence including Florencia Clement de Grandprey (Spain), Isabel Perez Salazar (Venezuela), and Lifrancis Rojas (Venezuela). New this year will be sculptures from Norman Silva (Nicaragua). The exhibit will be available to view at History Fort Lauderdale’s New River Inn (231 Southwest Second Avenue).

History Fort Lauderdale’s “Viva Fort Lauderdale” is sponsored by the following funds at the Community Foundation of Broward: Jan and Ed Crocker Unrestricted Fund, Leo M. and Alice J. Rutten Fund and The Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation Broward Community Fund. History Fort Lauderdale hosts a variety of engaging multicultural experiences, year-round. It seeks to bring awareness to the community through both traveling exhibits and multiple permanent exhibits including “Women Trailblazers,” “Fort Lauderdale – the Early Years,” “Roots of Resilience: The Journey of Black Broward,” “Fashion & Musical Theatre,” “From Dugouts to Dream Yachts: the story of boatbuilding along the New River,” Seminole Arts & Culture,” “New River Archaeology,” and “Take PRIDE, a retrospective on LGBTQ life in South Florida.”

Galleria Fort Lauderdale presents The Poppy Project Pop-Up Living Garden in support of Henderson Behavioral Health (HBH) in collaboration with the USS Fort Lauderdale (LPD28) Support Committee. This public art initiative is designed to honor veterans while raising awareness and funds for critical mental health services. Shoppers can take colorful photos and selfies to share online and connect with and donate to HBH’s virtual Legacy Wall which encourages friends and families to honor loved ones who have served or are currently serving our country. The cherished photo opportunity with the larger-than-life artistic poppy flowers will run through November 10 at Galleria Fort Lauderdale (2414 East Sunrise Blvd.).

Designed by South Florida based Ingham Landscaping and presented by Galleria Fort Lauderdale, the two-month living garden will be a colorful and lively setting featuring the five-and 6-foot striking handcrafted fiberglass poppy flowers which are a remembrance of those who protect and serve our country. The inside mall garden will include a variety of tropical ornamental plants and shrubs that will complement the artistic poppy works of art.

Adding to the installation, will be “Soldier Stories,” an exclusive exhibition by award-winning artist Marilyn Johansen honoring veterans and the military. Visitors will also be encouraged to select free postcards and add a personal message to current servicemen and women. This special moment is arranged by the USS Fort Lauderdale (LPD28) Support Committee. Special retail offers will coincide with this community project.

Inspired by the poppy’s historical significance as a symbol of sacrifice, rooted in the World War I poem “In Flanders Fields,” and later adopted as a national emblem of remembrance, HBH’s The Poppy Project brings this tradition to life in a local and meaningful way.

Friday, Oct. 23 | Tequila Herradura VIP Chef Showdown presented by GOYA Foods
The festival turns up the heat with the return of the fan-favorite VIP Chef Showdown, featuring 20 chefs competing across 10 head-to-head seafood battles. Guests can sample dishes at each restaurant’s Battle Pavilion and cast their votes for the best of each duo before the action moves to the Jack Daniel’s Live Stage, where competing chefs battle it out in front of a live audience. Returning alongside the chef battles are the Pacifico Beer Bartender Showdown and Tequila Herradura Bartender Showdown, while guests enjoy unlimited seafood bites and cocktails, live entertainment and immersive activations throughout the evening.

Saturday, Oct. 24 | Seafood Slam presented by Tequila Herradura
The festival culminates with its signature main event as Lummus Park transforms into an all-inclusive beachfront party featuring unlimited food and beverage tastings from more than 40 of South Florida’s leading restaurants. Guests can explore multiple seafood zones, sample ocean-fresh creations and vote for their picks for Best of the Fest. Throughout the afternoon, cocktail and wine pavilions, interactive activations, live culinary demonstrations from the Milam’s Culinary Kitchen and the Home Chef Competition keep the energy high. Participating vendors and restaurants will be announced soon.
