Get ready to indulge! Taste at the Track returns to Gulfstream Park this summer with a tantalizing array of food options between three different themed events. This fan favorite series combines the best of two worlds: food and drink and horse racing. Taking place in the third floor Flamingo Room overlooking the racetrack, guests can indulge in all-you-can-eat food and drink stations while taking in theexcitement and energy of high stakes horse racing. The series includes Burgers & Brews on August 6; Tacos & Tequila on August 27 and BBQ & Bourbon on September 24. All events take place on Saturdays from 1-4 p.m.; guests must be 21 and over to attend.

The upcoming Taste at the Track lineup includes:

At this final installment of the series, guests can enjoy a variety of southern-style dishes, paired with the very best premium bourbons, whiskeys, and handcrafted cocktails. For both experienced bourbon drinkers and new enthusiasts, this event provides a great opportunity to taste and learn about some of the top labels including Amador, High West, Treaty Oak, Makers 46, Iron Smoke, Jim Beam and Jack Daniels. Save room for some of the best BBQ around, including brisket, pulled pork, smoked chicken and other offerings. Plenty of southern sweets bring a delicious end to the meal.

He is the director of the Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History, where he has served since 1996. Dr. Tyson is also the host and co-founder of the Emmy-nominated podcast StarTalk and its spinoff StarTalk Sports Edition, which combine science, humor and pop culture. He is a recipient of 21 honorary doctorates, the Public Welfare Medal from the National Academy of Sciences and the Distinguished Public Service Medal from NASA. Asteroid 13123 Tyson is named in his honor.

Dr. Tyson will be in conversation with Dr. Doug Roberts, vice president, science education and director of the Frost Planetarium at the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science and introduced by Mitchell Kaplan.

House of Horror Haunted Carnival (HOH) has been scaring the living daylights out of the so-called unafraid. With four new haunted house experiences, a midway filled with unlimited carnival rides, food, and games, caretakers also vow to spook unsuspecting victims with every turn on their new Fireball Rollercoaster.

Beginning September 29 at 6PM, people can take their chances working their way through four terrifyingly, haunted experiences inside an abandoned department store at Miami International Mall. The following haunted experiences have been completely re-done to maximize their scare factor:

• The Silent Mall – Shhh….This is where Misshhhell will unleash her own level of “hell”. Try and stay quiet, if you dare.
• DrownTown – The undead are overflowing at this abandoned town seeking their revenge. Be quick about it, or risk becoming a permanent resident.
• Insanitorium – If by now your nerves are shot, don’t worry. Former patients have taken over the treatment of nervous breakdowns. Do check in. No health insurance required.
• Scare X Studios – Cleared of “almost” all paranormal activity, this immersive experience is where gaming and imagination takes center stage.

For 20 years, Miami International Mall has served as the ideal spot for this spooky, month-long adventure. Those fun-filled nights only get better on the HOH midway where a ticket to the haunted experiences also gives family and friends access to unlimited carnival rides and games. It’s also where overindulgence is highly encouraged given the large assortment of treats and carnival foods. Just be sure to rally enough courage to ride The Fireball Rollercoaster, which is a first this year.

Tickets are currently on sale for House of Horror Haunted Carnival at Miami International Mall. Doors open on September 29 and remain open every Tuesday through Sunday, all the way to Monday, October 31. HOH plans to incorporate special themed nights, including an adult Costume Contest on Halloween night, so be sure to follow them on social media for those drop dates!

The 21st Annual Power Lunch is anticipated to be attended by over 250 business professionals in Broward County. David Lawrence Jr., founder of The Children’s Movement of Florida and former publisher of the Miami Herald will serve as the event’s guest speaker and Neki Mohan, the vice president of Visit Lauderdale, will serve as the Master of Ceremonies.

In recognition of their dedication to Jack & Jill Center, the luncheon will honor United Way of Broward County ReadingPals as the volunteer honoree, the Leslie L. Alexander Foundation as the foundation honoree and Valley Bank as the corporate honoree. These awards are bestowed to those who have gone above and beyond through their contributions and service to Jack & Jill Center.

The proceeds from the event will benefit Jack & Jill Center’s mission to strengthen children and families through innovative education, supportive programming and community engagement. This Pamm Free Second Saturday, pull inspiration from the powerful themes in Bisa Butler’s Black is King—a quilted artwork that celebrates the beauty and power of Black identity. Guests of all ages are welcome to create their own “Woven PAMM Portrait,” designed and facilitated by teaching artists.

In addition to art making, enjoy activities with local artists on the terrace. Meet Miami-based artist Vantablack as she creates art in public for all to see. Learn about her artistic practice and marvel at her talents as a Black woman artist, truth-teller, and activist. Also, strike a pose for your own royal portrait and participate in “Me as Monarch,” a collaborative project by local artist and photographer Nicole Combeau. These individual sit-down portraits will join Combeau’s “Community Yearbook,” a digital collection of portraits featuring Miami’s many people and faces. Learn about their photography practice and honor yourself through this unique portrait experience.

Presented by Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, the Y’s signature Beach Ball Gala is set for 7 p.m. to midnight on Saturday, September 17 at the Intercontinental Miami Hotel, 100 Chopin Plaza in downtown Miami.

With Florida hitting a grim new record in 2021 with drownings up by 44%, the most child drownings since 2009, support for water safety education and drowning prevention programs are more critical than ever.

Proceeds from the annual Beach Ball 2022 Gala are directed to the YMCA of South Florida’s Aquatic Financial Assistance, which provides swim lessons and water safety instruction to at-risk children in Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe counties.

This year’s event is also sponsored by Brown & Brown Miami-Dade, Delta Air Lines, Publix Charities, Bacardi, Related, Cleveland Clinic, Club Med, Milner, UKG, Gulf Building, Pylon, Ryder System, Iberia Bank, and America’s Office Source, among others.

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, History Fort Lauderdale, celebrating 60 years of being the proud steward of our community’s past by making our heritage accessible and engaging to residents and visitors, will present “Viva Fort Lauderdale: Celebrating Hispanic Art & Culture” from Sunday, September 18 through Sunday, October 2. This first-ever fine art exhibit solely celebrating the contributions of our multicultural Latin community will feature work from local artists including Leonardo Montoya (Colombia), Lifrancis Rojas (Venezuela), Isabel Perez Salazar (Venezuela), Florencia Clement de Grandprey (Spain), Hernan Rodriguez (Cuba) and others. The exhibit will open with an artist group meet and greet reception at noon on September 18 at the New River Inn (231 Southwest Second Avenue).

All of the works will be exhibited in a newly renovated art space on the first level of the New River Inn.

Entry to the exhibit is free with general admission – $15 for adults; $12 for seniors and $7 for students (through age 22 with a valid student ID). In addition to “Viva Fort Lauderdale: Celebrating Hispanic Art & Culture,” History Fort Lauderdale is proud to host a variety of engaging multicultural experiences, year-round. South Florida’s highly anticipated South Beach Seafood Festival is back for its 10th anniversary with a celebration that is gearing up to be the biggest one yet. About Women in Labor
Women in Labor is a generative sound art composition that uses data sonification to demonstrate the effect of the changing laws around access to safe and legal abortion. Through computational algorithms, the piece sonifies the increase in mileage a woman will now have to travel to access care. Partnering with midwives, the artist has been collecting the sounds women make during labor starting with her own home birth experience in 2015.

Fort Lauderdale Gay Men’s Chorus (FTLGMC) will present “Life is a Cabaret” on Saturday, September 10, at 8 p.m. at United Church of Christ (2501 NE 30th Street in Fort Lauderdale). The special concert will include a sentimental selection of favorite Broadway tunes and popular standards with live musical instrumentation.

“Life is a Cabaret” concert selections will include music from beloved Broadway shows such as Oliver, Pippin and Ragtime. Christo and his wife and artistic collaborator Jeanne-Claude made an inestimable impact on the history of art since the mid-20th century. This exhibition presents fine examples of Christo’s drawing practice, which constitutes a pivotal aspect of his production. Collectively, the drawings exemplify an expansive overview of Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s oeuvre, comprising their major projects spanning from the late 1960s to the early 2000s.

OutFit – an innovative mobile fitness service bringing convenient, affordable, expertly-led private training and group fitness classes to parks and neighborhoods – will host “Ladies Morning Out” at The City of Plantation’s Central Park on Aug. 13 at 7:15 a.m. Participants will endure a 50-minute heart pumping, muscle building, full body workout while enjoying the fresh air. After the class, participants will enjoy healthy snacks and beverages.

Led by “Outfitter in Charge” Michelle Correa, the signature full body HIIT (high intensity interval training) Strength Circuit targets strength and conditioning with intense efforts and short rest periods while utilizing a color training system that keeps individuals challenged. Participants will do multiple sets of each exercise that provide maximum strength benefits while short rest periods ensure some cardiovascular development. The class includes four training stations featuring two exercises each highlighting mobility, stability, strength, power, core and cardio movements. All rounds consist of eight sets with duration options of 40 seconds (green), an optional push of 10 seconds (yellow), and either 25 seconds or 15 seconds of rest (white). There is also a 60 second strength boost after the last set at each station.

The LOOP invites the community and their furry companions to the Movies by Moonlight “Dog Days of Summer” series on the fourth Friday of the month Aug. 26 and Sept. 23. Presented by the City of Fort Lauderdale Beach Improvement District (BID), the night of four-legged fun is hosted by the dynamic mom and pup duo, Ana and Teddy, behind the award-winning Instagram @TourwithTeddy and blog “Living A Fairytail.”

As Fall approaches, it’s time to grab a stein and put on your lederhosen with the return of Wynwood’s Octoberfest, presented by Samuel Adams, taking place from September 9 to 11. Returning for its 12th year, Wynwood’s Octoberfest will transform the Wynwood Marketplace into a traditional Bavarian Bierhaus, turning Wynwood into Germany’s largest festival for the weekend. Register for a tour led by MOCA docent Dr. Helen Sachs Chaset. Dr. Chaset is an educator with more than 45 years of experience in administration, professional development, and program development. She is also a board member of Miami-Dade Holocaust Survivors, the Jewish Community Services of South Florida and the Center for the Advancement of Jewish Education. Dr. Chaset is the daughter of two Holocaust Survivors and was born in a displaced persons camp in Hannover, Germany.

Gulfstream Park’s Music in the Park, featuring the greatest collection of local homegrown performers, will continue through the summer with weekly duos performing outside on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights at the Village Center Stage. All show times are from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Below is the full schedule of performers and their descriptions. Performances are subject to change; cancellations may occur due to inclement weather.

Flovox Duo
FloVox formed when four talented musicians met doing gigs together through a worldwide corporate music company called Song Division. All rockers at heart, they combine classic rock with some of today’s hottest hits.

DJ Chris Cruz
Chris Cruz is an Internationally recognized TV/Radio Personality with over 30 years experience, the last 15 years of which have been on-air in Miami with iHeart Radio. Chris is a creator, innovator and serial entrepreneur, helping build brands and entertaining the world. From working with various Celebrities and recording artists to producing large-scale events including the MTV Vmas, Grammys, 10x Growth Con and many more, Cruz never stops. His most recent and maybe most passionate endeavor is the founding of The power of 3RE, which seeks to help others RESET – RETHINK – RESTART their present reality.
