Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade Heats Up Summer Fun with Exciting Summer Program for Area Youth
Four Clubs are Holding Unique Summer Programs from June-August Including Indoor and Outdoor Activities, Field Trips and More

To register, parents must come in person to the specific Club where their child(ren) will be attending the Summer Program. Mailed or faxed registration cards will not be accepted. Children will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis until the program is filled. Registration is now taking place for the 2012 Summer Program at Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade, which will be held at four different locations: the Kendall Club, Northwest Club, South Beach Club and Hank Kline Club. The Summer Program allows children to learn values such as friendship, honesty and teamwork by providing a safe and secure environment in which they can express and develop such relationships.

Summer Programs are open to all boys and girls starting at age 5 up to 15 (maximum age different at each Club – please check individual Club information.) The Summer Programs at all Clubs are staffed by qualified full-time and summer staff.

During the Summer Programs, children participate in fun indoor activities such as art & crafts, game room, table games and much more. Outdoor activities include all types of organized group games, and swimming at the South Beach Club. Field trips are also offered to exciting locations and events such as the movies, bowling, Chuck E. Cheese’s, swimming field trips for older groups (Kendall Club only) and more.

A free nutritious lunch and afternoon snack will be provided daily at no additional cost, or children may bring their own lunch. At each Club, awards will be given to recognize the boys and girls who have made a positive contribution to the Summer Program.

The Miami Science Museum is gearing up for its 46th Annual Summer Camp, Summer of the Submarine! During the eight one-week camp sessions, kids aged 4-14 will enjoy engaging, unique, fun-filled experiences including ecology, robotics, engineering, technology and more. While camp activities will be specific to the session chosen each week, each class will feature science lessons, projects, experiments, and crafts, interspersed with time to explore the museum galleries, planetarium or theater shows, and a 30-minute outdoor PE time. Campers in the 2nd through 8th grade groups will also go on field trips.

Classes are offered in the following age categories (campers must be entering the grade(s) of the group in August 2012):
Pre-K (age 4 as of August 2012; must be potty-trained and able to handle all aspects of using the restroom alone)
Kindergarten
1st Grade
2nd & 3rd Grades
4th & 5th Grades
6th, 7th & 8th Grades

Instructor to camper ratio is 1:10. Lead teachers are certified teachers with over 5-10 years of teaching experience in Miami-Dade County public and private schools, who will deliver hands-on, interactive learning. Each lead teacher has experience working with children in the grade level to which they are assigned. Each class will also have a teaching aide.

Campers should bring their own lunch. Two healthy snacks will be provided each day.

The eight one-week individual sessions are as follows:
Session 1: June 18 – 22
Session 2: June 25 – 29
Session 3: July 2 – 6 (No classes on the 4th of July)
Session 4: July 9 – 13
Session 5: July 16 – 20
Session 6: July 23 – 27
Session 7: July 30 – August 3

Class times are 9 a.m.–3:30 p.m. Before Care (7:45–9 a.m.) and After Care (4–6 p.m.) are offered at an additional cost.
Students in classes involving field trips will depart from the Miami Science Museum at 9:15 a.m. and return by 3:15 p.m.

Class fees per week, unless otherwise noted on the class descriptions, are $180 for Miami Science Museum members, and $210 for non-members.

Sibling discount is 15 percent. Sibling discount applies to tuition only, and does not include Before Care and After Care costs, T-shirts, etc. Cousins, nieces, nephews or friends are ineligible for the sibling discount.

Before Care fee is $25 per child for Miami Science Museum members and $30 per child for non-members. After Care fee is $50 per child for Miami Science Museum members and $60 per child for non-members.

All fees must be paid at time of registration via cash, check (please include your driver’s license number), or credit card (if online–American Express, Discover, Visa or Mastercard are accepted). Those taking advantage of the sibling discount will pay the full amount for the registrant with highest total tuition, then deduct 15 percent from the tuition of each additional sibling. This MUST be done at the time of initial registration.

A New Summer Fun Adventure Every Week!
Miami Children’s Museum presents another summer of fun with their annual Summer Camp at the Museum located conveniently between Downtown Miami and Miami Beach from June 11 – August 31, 2012. Campers from Pre-K to 5th Grade will enjoy a fun-filled learning experience as they explore the Museum from top to bottom, while developing new interests, and making new friends. They also can experience the latest new hands on exhibit on the Olympics that is coming to the Museum this June. Campers can join camp for a week or all summer long!

Whether a MiChiMu Mate (Pre K – 2nd Grade) or part of the Castaway Crew (3rd to 5th Grade), campers can experience weekly themes relating to arts, science, culture, fitness and travel, all within a safe hands on learning environment. From Ocean Odyssey to Archeological Adventures to Music Mania to Young Thespians and more, there is a world of exciting adventures to be found each week. Camp takes place Monday – Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

MCM also offers extended care that caters to working parents and their busy schedules. Before care is from 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. while After Care is from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Both are available daily at an additional per week fee.

MCM Summer Camp Registration, per week or for the whole summer, is open now. Fees are $198 per week for MCM members and $220 per week for Non-Members. Fee also includes a camp t-shirt and a Subway lunch is available for an additional fee. PLEASE NOTE: Parents are encouraged to register prior to the start of camp to avoid the $20 walk-in fee at the start of every week. Before Care is available at $25 per week while After Care is $60.

Curious George: Let’s Get Curious!
Kids let their curiosity run wild at this interactive exhibit that features everyone’s favorite little monkey. There will also be a “Ballet for Kids” class inside the Peacock Foundation Studio and a photo booth where families can capture the fun and have their picture taken.

In addition, Family Fest will include special performances by the exemplary Miami Children’s Chorus, Delou African Dance Ensemble and the internationally acclaimed Miami City Ballet, who will perform excerpts from the classic Coppélia. The charm and humor of this classic romantic comedy have kept Coppélia in the repertory ever since its Paris premiere in 1870. Franz loves Swanilda—except when he also has eyes for Coppélia, who turns out to be a mechanical doll!

The entire family will have a blast at this fun-filled day of enchantment, music, dancing, hands-on demonstrations, and mini-workshops!

With the help of his adventurous new friend, Emilio dives into a wondrous fantasy world and discovers that he has the strength to overcome his fears, shyness and even the school yard bullies! Colorful puppets, upbeat music and lots of laughs come together in this heartfelt tale about a boy and his trusty enchanted cow.

Marionetas de la Esquina has been entertaining children and adults alike since 1975. They have given more than 11,000 performances and 50 workshops and seminars and have helped make puppetry one of the favorite family entertainments throughout Mexico.

Attendees will have the chance to participate in exciting hands-on activities such as holding a real brain, finding out if they are super tasters, discovering ways to be smarter, building their own neuron, and learning how each part of the brain works. Additionally, kids will enjoy face painting of brains and neurons, puppet shows about how the brain works, and more.

On March 2, 2012 Miami Children’s Museum (MCM) will celebrate the 108th birthday of Dr. Seuss to honor his persisting contributions as a part of Read Across America. During the celebration the Museum will be open FREE to the public from 2 p.m.-8 p.m. so that all children and families can play, learn, imagine, and create together. Hang on to your hats and watch out for the Cat as the Museum commemorates one of the world’s greatest children’s book authors.

The Grinch, Things One & Two, The Cat in the Hat, and Dr. Seuss himself will entertain guests, along with celebrity story readers (including Dave Barry and Adam Kuperstein) and much more! Seussical fun awaits all with a slew of themed games, art projects, screenings of your favorite Seuss videos and live performances of MCM’s Green Eggs and Ham as well as the Cat in the Hat. Come sign Dr. Seuss’s birthday card and I’m sure there will be cake too!

The Miami Children’s Museum offers bilingual and interactive exhibits; programs and classes and learning materials related to arts, culture, community and communication. They have 14 interactive galleries as well as housing many exciting and fun traveling exhibits.

Founded in 1983, Miami Children’s Museum is dedicated to enriching the lives of all children by fostering a love of learning and enabling children to realize their highest potential. Visitors of all ages are encouraged to play together, learn, imagine and create. The 56,500-square-foot facility includes 14 galleries, classrooms, parent/teacher resource center, 200-seat auditorium and outdoor exhibits, including a new playground. The museum offers hundreds of bilingual, interactive exhibits; programs and classes, including special needs classes; Subway restaurant; Kid Smart educational gift shop and learning materials related to arts, culture, community and communication. Summer Camp at Miami Seaquarium
June 11-August 17, 2012 for Campers Ages 5-18

With summer vacation upon us, parents are often looking for exciting and innovative ways to keep their children engaged in education outside the classroom. Summer Camp 2012 at Miami Seaquarium offers students from kindergarten to high school the opportunity to learn about animals, environmental awareness and animal habitats at summer camp. Summer Camp 2012 at Miami Seaquarium will run from June 11-August 17, 2012 for campers ages 5 to 18 years.

Summer activities for kids will focus on educational topics according to their grade level. These activities include lessons on the essential role that water plays on all aspects of life; the extraordinary feats of some marine animals; the devastating effects that human activity can have on the health of the planet and more. Campers also will experience at least one animal interaction and show each day. The cost of the camp includes a t-shirt, souvenir photo and a daily snack.

Curriculum for each grade level at Summer Camp 2012 at Miami Seaquarium will revolve on a three-week schedule with additional weeks optional. Camp hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with early and late care available for an additional charge.

Miami Seaquarium, South Florida’s most popular tourist attraction, is a family-oriented marine-life park open to the public 365 days a year. $170 per child (members); $190 (non-members)

Morning and afternoon snacks provided.
Campers must bring their own lunches with beverages from home.

Drop off and Extended Care:
Morning drop-off: 8:30- 8:50 a.m. Camp starts promptly @ 9:00 a.m.!
Extended care: 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. Cost: $35 for the week per child.
Registration:
Pre-registration is required and space is limited.
$5 discount for siblings.
Registration is processed on a first come-first served basis, and is due by Wednesday, March 7th 3:00 p.m. A $10 late fee per child will be assessed after that.
Groups are arranged by age at camp staff discretion.

Giraffes Rule!
The name giraffe derives from the word Xirapha, which means “fast hiker” in Arabic, Giraffes can run pretty fast as well, actually much faster than humans. These and other fascinating facts about the tallest animal on Earth will be the focus of this super fun spring camp day. You can’t miss it!

Never Forget the Elephants
Elephants are said to have a very good memory. In fact, older individuals are able to lead the herd to food and water sources where they have been before. Children will have a terrific time finding out what makes these animals so unique and what we can do to protect them. So, remember to sign up for camp soon!

How do Animals See the World?
Do animals see their surroundings the same way that we do? Is sight equally important for all species? Join us at Zoo Camp for a phenomenal time as you explore the diverse and curious ways animals perceive the world around them, and how that may impact their ability to survive.

Shhh… The Animals are Sleeping
Animals need to recharge after activity periods just like we do, but their resting routine may vary greatly depending on the species. Some tend to sleep less than an hour a day, while others may snooze for most of the day! How does that compare to the way you relax? Campers will have a great time here at the Zoo as they explore amazing sleeping habits found in the Animal Kingdom!

Animals’ Best Friends
On this day, campers will acquire a better understanding of the animals’ needs and will be encouraged to familiarize themselves with choosing suitable pets, and how to properly care for them. This fun filled camp day will expose children to meaningful information and resources, as well as foster their appreciation for animals in their lives and in the wild.
