While their artistic approaches differ, their works converge through shared engagements with historical myth, complex spiritual belief systems, and a commitment to visual storytelling that unfolds as an ongoing journey. It marks the second exhibition in the Freedom Tower’s Wolfson Art Gallery since the historic landmark reopened following a major renovation to mark its 100th anniversary.

Cost: Children: $5 | Adults: $10

American Heritage School’s Broward Campus lower school students will perform Beauty and the Beast JR. at the main Stage Theater on Thursday, Jan. 29, at 7 p.m. and Friday, Jan. 30, at 7 p.m.

Based on the original Broadway production that ran for over thirteen years and was nominated for nine Tony Awards, and the Academy Award-winning motion picture, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast JR. is a fantastic adaptation of the story of transformation and tolerance. Disney’s Beauty and the Beast JR. features some of the most popular songs ever written by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman, along with new songs by Mr. Menken and Tim Rice.

The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed to his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity. With many fun supporting roles allowing students to play objects inside the castle, this “tale as old as time” is filled with spectacular costume and set opportunities.

Brévo Theatre presents a powerful series of staged readings by award-winning playwright Bryan Keyth Wilson, spotlighting urgent stories that interrogate race, power, memory, and survival in America. Featuring The Otha Amerikkka, 8:46, and FAFO, this reading series offers audiences an intimate first look at works in development that confront systemic injustice, generational trauma, and the lived realities of Black communities.

The Otha Amerikkka
“tha other ameriKKKa” is a choreopoem inspired by Martin Luther King Jr’s powerful lecture On April 14, 1967 at Stanford University. This choreopoem is a contemporary analysis of the duality and reality that plague America. Why is there this other America for the marginalized and people with skin colors other than white? Through a blend of poetry, prose, music, and movement, the piece challenges perceptions and sparks dialogue on the complexities of the American experience.

8:46
8:46 delves into the collective and individual experiences of those whose lives were irrevocably altered on that fateful morning. The play weaves together testimonies, memories, and poetic expressions, creating a tapestry of voices that reflect the complex realities of race, privilege, and trauma in the aftermath of 9/11. The title, 8:46, serves as a poignant reminder of the exact time the first plane struck, marking the beginning of an event that changed the world forever and left deep scars on those whose stories are seldom told.

F*** Around And Find Out
A raw, unapologetic breakdown of who showed up, who stayed home, and how the choices we make at the ballot box shape the world we live in. Told through powerful vignettes, FAAFO blends investigative theatre with intimate character studies, using real statistics and lived experiences to dissect the racial and gender divides in voting—because democracy isn’t just a right, it’s a reckoning. In this bold theatrical experiment, two actors—one Black man and one Black woman—embody a kaleidoscope of voices, slipping seamlessly between personas to reveal the personal stakes behind the percentages. From impassioned testimonies to stark moments of reckoning, FAAFO forces us to confront the numbers not as abstract data, but as human stories—messy, complicated, and impossible to ignore.

Miami, it’s that time again.

We opened 2026 with a special one at Do Not Sit — packed, intimate, and the kind of night that reminds us why we do this.

This Friday, we’re back for round two.

Our sunset edition of Intriga

We usually move between two worlds each month: one night deep in the club, one night up in the sky. A little contrast, a little variety, same intention throughout.

Some familiar faces, some new ones stepping in, all coming together as the sun goes down and the city shifts pace. Music first, moment first.

And when the clock hits eleven, we take it downstairs to the Bamboo Room to carry it through until close.

This is about being present.

If you’ve been before, you already know.

Reading between the Brushstrokes: Imagery and Meaning in Italian Renaissance Painting 2/21/26

Reading between the Brushstrokes: Imagery and Meaning in Italian Renaissance Painting
Saturday, 02/21/2026-, 03:00 pm-04:00 pm
NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale, Florida, 33301

Cost: Free for members, $16 for non-members

While famous masterpieces such as the “Mona Lisa,” the “Birth of Venus,” and the “Sistine Chapel, Ceiling” draw massive crowds in Italy, most Italian Renaissance paintings in US museums are passed over for more readable, recognizable, and user-friendly 19th and/or 20th-century paintings. Museum-goers today often have a difficult time recognizing the characters, knowing the theology, identifying with the morality, or understanding the function of most Italian Renaissance paintings. Dr. Rocky Ruggiero will “read between the brushstrokes” to explain the meaning behind the imagery of painted masterpieces from the Italian Renaissance.

Admission is free for members, $16 per class for non-members. Space is limited. Preregistration Required.

Rocky Ruggiero has been a professor of Art and Architectural History since 1999. He received his BA from the College of the Holy Cross and a Master of Arts degree from Syracuse University, where he was awarded a prestigious Florence Fellowship in 1996. He furthered his art historical studies at the University of Exeter, UK, where he received a Ph.D. in Art History and Visual Culture.

In addition to lecturing for various American universities in Florence, Italy, including Syracuse, Kent State, Vanderbilt, and Boston College, Rocky has starred in various TV documentaries concerning the Italian Renaissance. He recently appeared as an expert witness for NBC News, as well as in the History Channel’s “Engineering an Empire: Da Vinci’s World” and “Museum Secrets: the Uffizi Gallery”, and the recent NatGeo/NOVA PBS program on Brunelleschi’s dome entitled “Great Cathedral Mystery.”

After living in Florence, Italy, for 20 years, Rocky and his family moved to East Greenwich, RI, and he now divides his time between the US and Italy.

Rocky also shares his knowledge and love of Italian art as an academic advisory board member of the non-profit group Friends of Florence and as a frequent collaborator and lecturer for the Friends of the Uffizi Gallery, both of which have provided funds for the restoration of numerous works of art throughout Florence. He also lectures and serves as a college liaison for the prestigious Jay Pritzker Academy in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

“Stand Up for Innocence,” a Night of Stand-Up Comedy to Benefit the Wrongfully Convicted in Florida’s Prisons 1/31/26

“Stand Up for Innocence,” a Night of Stand-Up Comedy to Benefit the Wrongfully Convicted in Florida’s Prisons
Saturday, 01/31/2026-, 07:00 pm-11:00 pm
American Heritage Schools’ Broward Campus

Plantation, Florida, 33325
Website
Cost: $30 to $100

On Saturday, Jan. 31, American Heritage Schools and its Honors Legal Studies program are pleased to once again partner with The Innocence Project of Florida (IPF) to host its seventh annual comedy event series, “Stand Up for Innocence,” at the school’s Broward Campus. The event will feature three comedians, including Tony V., Leighann Lord, and Maronzio Vance. The pre-event reception begins at 7 p.m., and the comedy show starts at 8:15 p.m.

This is a fun-filled night featuring stand-up comedians who frequently appear on Comedy Central and at NYC Comedy Clubs. The evening will entail levity and laughs to raise money for The Innocence Project of Florida – a nonprofit organization that aims to help innocent prisoners in Florida obtain their freedom and rebuild their lives.

All proceeds from the Stand Up for Innocence comedy show will provide critical funding for IPF’s work to find and free innocent people from prison in Florida. The litigation efforts and support services for freed people are always offered at no cost to the wrongfully convicted, ensuring that justice, freedom, and healing are never determined by someone’s ability to pay.

The impact of these events extends beyond the stage; they raise awareness, bring communities together, and amplify the voices of those who have endured unimaginable injustice. They are a reminder that wrongful convictions are not just statistics but human stories of resilience, families torn apart, and lives rebuilt.

Opening Reception: Cristina Lei Rodriguez: Baroque Islands
Tuesday, 01/20/2026-, 11:00 am-01:00 pm
MDC's Hialeah Campus Art Gallery
1780 West 49th Street,
Hialeah, Florida, 33012
Website
Cost: Free

MOAD and Cristina Lei Rodriguez will host an opening reception in honor of the artist’s new exhibition, Baroque Islands, on MDC’s Hialeah Campus.

Cristina Lei Rodriguez: Baroque Islands presents new and recent paintings. For years, the artist has been combining sculpture, installation, painting, and photographic scans in her work. As opposed to including different media, this exhibition offers a special opportunity to consider her painting practice, with its dense layers evoking a multitude of forms. Beneath each layer of material, is another layer that offers a glimpse into an alternative world. Each painting is its own island, its own space, where a mix of materials from beads to paint and lacquer combine to make glistening surfaces suggesting both built and natural environments.

To create baroque art or to exist in a baroque space can mean many things. A term often associated with seventeenth-century Europe; baroque art and architecture took on new forms in the Americas. Baroque art can include a juxtaposition of contrasting elements as well as embellishment. It can be exuberant and emotional. Although it is most often used when speaking of historic visual, literary, and performance-based arts, manifestations of contemporary baroque exist all around us, including in the work of Cristina Lei Rodriguez.

Raised in Miami, the artist’s family lineage extends to Cuba and Japan, and she spent extended time as a child and a young adult in Hawai’i visiting her grandmother. Islands are personal for the artist. Rich and varied landscapes inform the artist’s work as does overlapping notions of place. From these national and international boundaries to her own backyard where plentiful plants multiply in the abundant humidity of Miami, the artist draws inspiration from complex textures, sumptuous colors, and intricate details.

This exhibition was organized by the Museum of Art and Design at Miami Dade College.

Parking at MDC’s Hialeah Campus

The Art Gallery is located directly across from the Building 5 garage.

The main vehicular entrance to the campus is located along West 17th Court before reaching 46th Street. Parking is available for all Miami Dade College students, staff, faculty, and visitors in our recently constructed parking garage and flat lots. All individuals using campus parking facilities must abide by the College parking guidelines.

The Museum of Art and Design (MOAD) at MDC may document the event, including its attendees. By entering the area, and/or participating in the event, you consent to the recording and its use in any form.

MOAD’s programs are made possible with the support of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade County Mayor, and Board of County Commissioners. They are sponsored in part by the State of Florida through the Division of Arts and Culture, and with generous support from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. The Miami Herald is a media sponsor of MOAD’s programming.

From family and school life to segregation, peaceful protests and triumphs, the selected photos offer insight how our community has evolved and overcome. Curated by Dillard instructor Celestin Joseph, the advanced placement student showcase illustrates a cultural reflection of today’s issues as see through the lens of upcoming young artists.

Joseph received his master’s in fine arts in painting from the University of Pennsylvania. He received a bachelor’s in fine arts, cum laude, from the University of Hartford as a painting major, with an art history minor, and concentrations in printmaking and graphic design studies. Joseph also received a prestigious Yale/Norfolk Art and Music Scholarship to further his studies. South Florida Symphony Orchestra (SFSO) invites patrons to sail away to “Ravel on the Riviera,” this year’s annual gala fundraiser that captures the romance of the South of France in the golden age — where the glamour of Josephine Baker and the soulful voice of Edith Piaf filled seaside cabarets, and champagne flowed under starlit skies. The enchanting evening, which pays homage to both the celebrated French composer, pianist and conductor and the sun-drenched Mediterranean coastline renowned for its artistic heritage, will take place on Saturday, January 17, at 5:30 p.m., at Coral Ridge Yacht Club (2800 Yacht Club Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale). The event, which celebrates South Florida community arts leaders and advocates who support SFSO’s impactful artistic, community engagement and music education initiatives, will feature a private performance by international pianist Svetlana Smolina.

This formal gala evening will recognize Sound of Success regional arts advocates Jeannette and Francisco Alvarado of Marand Builders, Miriam Richter, William Sandrik & Henry Smith, Jerry Taylor & Nancy Bryant Foundation and the Warten Foundation for their instrumental support of SFSO’s impactful community outreach and musical programming initiatives.

Guests will be welcomed with champagne and signature cocktails, setting the tone for a night of Riviera elegance. A three-course French dinner follows, accompanied by evocative melodies that bring to life the timeless charm of the Côte d’Azur. The highlight of the evening will be a private performance by acclaimed pianist Svetlana Smolina, whose artistry captures the brilliance of Ravel and the spirit of the French Riviera.

As the night unfolds, the celebration continues with a dessert reception, sparkling apéritifs, and dancing on theme — a true voyage to another era, blending vintage Parisian allure with nautical Mediterranean sophistication.

SFSO’s “Ravel on the Riviera” Gala is chaired by Kate and Brent Nelson. This year’s sponsors include Mark Kravitz and Aviah Flagler Village (Special Recognition), Chuck Nicholls and Mark Turner (Décor Sponsors) and Ombelle Fort Lauderdale (Valet Sponsor).

SFSO’s 28th season of “Juxtapositions” explores beauty in contrasts, where the bold and the sublime intersect, and timeless masterpieces share the stage with today’s most compelling and celebrated musical voices. From Mozart’s vivacious “Haffner” symphony to the sun-drenched skies of Mendelssohn’s “Italian” and the sweeping emotion of Sibelius’ Violin Concerto — performances burst with color and power. Beethoven’s luminous Piano Concerto No. 4 and Dvořák’s Bohemian Eighth deepen the journey, while Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio espagnol whirls with Spanish flair. SFSO is also proud to present upcoming orchestra firsts by GRAMMY-nominated composers, including the Florida premiere of Had to Be by Haitian-American Nathalie Joachim, featuring breakout cellist Seth Parker Woods, and Carlos Simon’s Four Black American Dances.

From sold-out masterworks performances to accompanying today’s musicians such as Natalie Merchant and performing modern musical scores including Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas and Back to the Future, featuring the iconic films screened live with audio and musical accompaniment, South Florida’s largest symphonic orchestra is continuing its journey of excellence inspiring audiences of all ages and musical genres.

Individual tickets for South Florida Symphony Orchestra’s “Ravel on the Riviera” Gala start at $500. Standard seating tables for 10 start at $5,000 and VIP tables start at $10,000. Tickets can be purchased at southfloridasymphony.org/gala-2026. Sponsorship opportunities are still available for this special evening. Lillian Hellman’s The Little Foxes, a searing Broadway and silver screen classic, storms into Island City Stage with all its ruthless ambition, razor-sharp dialogue, and Southern gothic splendor from January 8 – February 1. Tickets are on sale now.

Set in the Deep South at the turn of the 20th century, this gripping drama follows the wealthy but morally bankrupt Hubbard family, bound by blood but torn apart by greed. At the center is Regina, a calculating and charismatic woman determined to get her share of the American Dream—no matter the cost. Together with her cruel brothers Oscar and Benjamin, the Hubbards will stop at nothing to secure a fortune. But when Regina’s ailing husband refuses to fund their scheme, the claws come out and the lies begin to spiral. With money on the line and family loyalty up for sale, the Hubbards prove one chilling truth: some people eat the earth—and some just stand by and watch.

The original Broadway production of The Little Foxes opened in 1939 at the National Theatre and ran for 410 performances. It originally starred Tallulah Bankhead as Regina Hubbard Giddens who went on to win awards and reprise her role in the 1941 radio adaptation. It was Bette Davis, however, who starred in the film adaptation alongside the other Broadway stars making their film debuts. Over the years and many incarnations of the play, the coveted role of the malevolently, ruthlessly scheming Regina Giddens has been played by notable actresses including Greer Garson, Anne Bancroft, Geraldine Page, Stockard Channing, Marg Helgenberger, Laura Linney and Cynthia Nixon.

Austin Pendleton directed a production at the Parker Playhouse in Fort Lauderdale for three weeks that transferred to the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., for six weeks before opening on Broadway in 1981, at the Martin Beck Theatre for 123 performances and eight previews. The cast included Elizabeth Taylor as Regina, Tom Aldredge as Horace, Dennis Christopher as Leo, Maureen Stapleton as Birdie, and Anthony Zerbe as Benjamin. Taylor received nominations for both the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play and the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actress in a Play. Tony nominations also went to Pendleton for Best Direction of a Play, Aldredge for Best Featured Actor in a Play, Stapleton for Best Featured Actress in a Play, and the play itself for Best Revival.

Island City Stage’s production of The Little Foxes is directed by Michael Leeds and stars Mia Matthews (Regina), Margery Lowe (Birdie), Christopher Dreeson (Horace), JohnBarry Green (Oscar), Cary Brianna Hart (Haddie), Christian Cooper (Leo), Jeff Burleson (Marshall), Mallory Flory (Alexandra), Randy Coleman (Cal), and Steve Trovillion (Ben).

The Little Foxes co-producers are Thel Boyette & David Page, Lights and Sound Sponsors are Glenn Goldberg & Robert Lee, Talent Sponsors are Art & Fran Greenberg and Costume Sponsor is Scott Bennett. Additional funding is provided by the following: The Our Fund Foundation, The Schubert Foundation Inc., the SHS Foundation, the Warten Foundation, OutClique and the Broward County Board of County Commissioners as recommended by the Broward Cultural Council.

Individual show tickets start at $45. A special Women’s Night at the Theatre sponsored by Caryl Stevens will take place on January 23. The show runs for two hours and 30 minutes including two intermissions.

From twisted tales to touching human stories, Island City Stage’s upcoming season invites you to expect the unexpected. Upcoming bold productions, each delivering unexpected twists, inventive storytelling, and unforgettable theatrical moments Everything Beautiful Happens at Night by Ted Malawer from April 2 – 26; Light Switch by Dave Osmundsen from May 21 – June 14 and Eureka Day by Jonathan Spector from August 20 – September 20.

Island City Stage will also be offering two Flexpass options this season. The Flexpass5 ($225) offers five tickets that can be used all for one show or one for every show (no processing fees) and $5 off additional tickets purchased. The Flexpass3 ($136) offers three tickets that can be used all for one show or one for every show (no processing fees) and $5 off additional tickets purchased. Discounts are available for groups.

NOIZE MC. NORTH AMERICAN TOUR 2026

Noize MC is one of the most outspoken anti-Putin, anti-war Russian artists in exile — a musician whose work sits at the crossroads of rap, rock, and sharp political commentary. Over the past 15 years, he has become a defining voice for a generation, known for his fearless freestyling, genre-blending sound, and uncompromising civic stance. He was named to Forbes’ “50 Stars” list in 2010 and 2019 and received MTV Europe Music Awards nominations for Best Russian Artist in both years.

In 2019, Noize MC released “Just Like Everyone Else,” a scathing critique of contemporary Russia that went viral, amassing more than 36 million views on his official YouTube channel. His 2025 album Not All There marked a major turning point in his career and is widely regarded as one of the most important releases in recent Russian-language music.

After publicly condemning Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 — following more than a decade of protest activity against Vladimir Putin’s regime — Noize MC left Russia and settled in Lithuania. Together with fellow artist Monetochka, he launched Voices of Peace, a series of benefit concerts that raised over €400,000 for Ukrainian civilians. In December 2024, Noize MC and Monetochka were nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
