Blogup
The South Florida Blogosphere is expanding at an exponential rate! Many of us know each other online — we cross-link, cross-post, and support each other — and sometimes, we even fight. However, how many of us have actually met in person? With this question in mind, Maria of Sex and the Beach, and Annette and James of Soul Of Miami, have joined forces to bring a SoFla Blogup where we can meet and greet bloggers and their fans.

On Saturday, November 21st, Graziano’s Brickell Restaurant is hosting this exciting event. Graziano’s will serve complimentary hors d’oeuvres. A specialty drink and wine will be available at $5.00 a glass.

The event runs from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm to make it more convenient for those people with families and those with nightlife commitments to attend. Doors will open for bloggers (and their plus ones) from 2pm to 3pm. Readers, fans and all others welcome after 3 pm.

2. Women are asked to share their passions (bring their business cards so that we may network and create community).
3. Women are required to commit to celebrating their Feminine Divine Essence, the Goddess within. :)

What is A Goddess?
By definition, a Goddess is a woman with great beauty or grace. Every woman is a Goddess, and we all have our own unique talents to share and radiate out to the world. Goddess Gatherings are safe spaces where we can connect to, celebrate, and express the Divine Feminine Radiance that is the Goddess within us.

The mission of Goddess Gatherings with Michelle Maniaci is to co-create Unity and Balance between our feminine/masculine aspects and to connect to, honor, and share our Divine Authentic Selves with each other. Together we will also strengthen our connection to our amazing innate healing potential. I have done a lot of self-nurturing, self-healing this year, feeling and cleansing on the inside. I have also practiced shadow work, dissolving ego, fear, and stress (it is an ongoing process),… this has inspired me to share Nurturing Moves once per month in the form of Goddess Gatherings that will rock your world, but also uplift your business/visions. I want to do something positive in our world…Diversity is welcome. It is a sacred time where we can learn something new to enhance our inner lives, but also how we relate to others. It is a time to celebrate our wonderful talents, businesses, support each other’s visions, have fun, and celebrate LIFE to the fullest. Tell a friend… please dress in comfortable clothes. If you like to share your talents with us as a special guest speaker. We all have so much to share and shine onto our world, let’s do it together.

Join us as we celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week and collect nominations for the 2010 Entrepreneur Alumni Awareness Campaign!

Each year, the Center honors distinguished alumni through their annual Alumni Entrepreneur Awareness Campaign (also known as the Banner Campaign). From now through Friday, November 20, 2009, the Pino Global Entrepreneurship Center will seek new nominations for the 2010 Alumni Entrepreneur Awareness Campaign to identify emerging entrepreneurs among FIU’s growing alumni base. It is through this endeavor that the Center recognizes alumni who have created their own businesses in order to spread the word and the spirit of entrepreneurship across disciplines.

As a part of this campaign, a picture of each selected nominee along with their entrepreneurial story is added to a beautifully designed banner that is unveiled during the 2010 Alumni Entrepreneur Happy Hour Celebration this spring. Following the event, the banner is then installed on campus as an inspiration to all young aspiring entrepreneurs!

Get Connected Networker at ECCO 8/27/09

ecco
Get Connected August 27th at ECCO Pizzateca and Lounge
168 SE 1st Street, Miami, FL

Special guest: Michael Woodward

On Thursday, August 27th, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., members of South Florida’s leading networking organizations for young professionals will gather to celebrate the third “GET CONNECTED”, an event which offers young professionals a platform to network and build relationships in our community. The event will take place at Ecco Pizzateca & Lounge in Downtown Miami. This event is open to all young professionals.

The co-host sponsors for the August Get Connected include:

• Coconut Grove Jaycees (JCI) – an organization of young men and women (age 21-39) with a large and diverse membership from all over Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. “Jay-Cees” simply stands for Junior Chamber, which is part of the worldwide federation of 5,700 chapters in 110 countries around the world known as Junior Chamber International (JCI). The Coconut Grove chapter has been providing community service, business opportunities and leadership training to their community since 1976. Regionally, leaders such as Tom Gallagher (Florida Insurance Commissioner) and Alex Penelas (Former Miami -Dade County Mayor) are part of the Coconut Grove Jaycess’ alumni body. Internationally, past members have included U.S. Presidents (Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Clinton), UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, Bob Hawke (former Prime Minister of Australia), Jacques Chirac (former President of France), Ted Turner (founder of CNN), Larry Bird (Boston Celtics), Poul Schluter (former Prime Minister of Denmark) and Chen Shui-bian (10th president of Taiwan) among others.

• Connect Florida – The first statewide organization of young professionals connecting Florida’s leaders in the 21 to 35 age range. The innovative new program, created by Leadership Florida, assists young professionals in making a positive impact on our state.

• Coral Gables Rotaract Club – a nonprofit service club designed for young professionals and sponsored by the Rotary Club of Coral Gables. Coral Gables Rotaract is part of a global network of over 7,000 Rotaract clubs in about 163 countries, all centered on community service, international understanding, leadership training and professional development.
• Middle Eastern American Professionals Association (MEAPA) – MEAPA is a community based civic and cultural organization that originated in South Florida. They have been keeping South Florida’s Middle Eastern American community informed, involved and connected, since 2005. MEAPA is open to all people, professionals and students of Arabic and Non-Arabic Middle Eastern Heritage. Anyone is welcomed to join the many great events, programs and activities.

• Miami Science Museum (@MIASCI) – Art and science converge on the last Thursday of every month at the Miami Science Museum. Young professionals, science aficionados, art enthusiasts and other 21-45 year olds come together for a happy hour alternative in a non-traditional setting. Enjoy open bar, hors d’oeuvres, exhibits and the sounds of renowned South Florida DJs all night long. Every month their focus changes to include a short program dedicated to an art form, from dance to poetry to the visual and culinary arts.

• Ronald McDonald House of South Florida – the members of the young professional group of the Ronald McDonald House, located on the grounds of Jackson Memorial Hospital, work together to engage in the lives of families with sick children.

• Young Urban Professional Alumni (YUPA) – is a dynamic organization of Florida International University (FIU) graduates who are 39 years old or younger. YUPA provides a venue for young alumni to interact and network with each other for their professional/personal development. FIU has approximately 60,000 alumni who fit the South Florida YUPA criteria. The group was formed in 2006 and consists of young alumni professionals looking to advance in their careers and make the most out of life. This unique group stands apart and shares common interests that many young alumni have today. YUPA is open to FIU young alumni of all majors and every profession.

• YoPros – YoPros is an activities group for young professionals in Miami. They are a community of adventurous young professionals who seek to enjoy their valuable free-time engaging in fun, meaningful and interesting activities with like-minded people. YoPros offers their members the opportunity to participate in daily activities, such as, events, sports, fitness, culture, self-help/wellness and how to network and develop professionally in either their own activities or in conjunction with other outstanding organizations.

“This event certainly provides young professionals, like me, the opportunity to meet one-on-one to discuss the current state of our industries and discuss how we can collaborate to not only advance in our field but also help our community prosper,” noted Anthony Bayona, president of the Ronald McDonald House of Miami young professional group.

Young professionals in the South Florida community are urged to assist the third GET CONNECTED event. This event is free of charge. For more information, please contact Natalie Leon at (786) 537-0751, Cristina Tacoronte at (305) 788-0808 or Allison McCormick at (305)764-5377.

JCI High Speed Business Networking at Mayfair Hotel & Spa in Coconut Grove 8/7/09

Here is some good news; business networking events have finally moved into the new millennium!

For years business networking events have followed the same formula. People show up, mingle, and leave with some business cards. Not this time. Thanks to the efforts of a few passionate, inspired and driven young people, there is a new way to network!

The Junior Chamber International (also known as JCI or the Jaycees) is a worldwide federation of young leaders and entrepreneurs with chapters in over 110 countries. Thanks to their creativity and desire to improve people to people networking, they have come up with a method which allows professionals to truly get the most out business contact exchanges. This new method is high speed networking, also known in the JCI community as “Business Networking Event” or BNE.

This new way of networking allows a participant to meet 10 -15 business contacts in about an hour, spending as little as 3 minutes talking to someone with whom they may be able to do business. The secret? Bypassing formalities and realizing that time is of the essence.

Now that you have a better understanding of this revolutionary way of making professional contacts, we would like to introduce you to one of the chapters that will help your reach your professional goals, that chapter is the JCI of Coconut Grove.

Known as the Champagne Chapter, the Jaycees of Coconut Grove have been around for more than thirty years and has been recognized as one of the most outstanding chapters in the nation. In additional, the chapter has seen many awards, including “Most Outstanding Chapter in all of the Americas”, and in 2002, the JCI World Congress recognized it as one of the best chapters in the world.

This summer the JCI of Coconut Grove has decided to organize a BNE that will bring together young professionals and entrepreneurs from all corners of the globe. The event will be one of many activities offered to those who are interested in leadership and professional development during the appropriately entitled “Gateway of the Americas” Conference. During this three-day conference, Miami will be showcased as the city with the strongest business, cultural, and international connections among the countries in the Americas.

The BNE portion will be taking place at the Mayfair Hotel & Spa in Coconut Grove, on Friday August 7th, 2009. Registration will start at 6:00 pm and the networking activities will begin at 7:30pm. Come early to enjoy free appetizers and an introduction to the conference by a key leader in the community. Trust us when we say you will not want to miss out on this opportunity!

Registration information can be found at [URL] or alternately by calling Conny Miranda & Lily Martinez at (786) 443-0659 / (786) 444-6403 or via email at connymiranda@msn.com / limaest@yahoo.com

We look forward to seeing you there!

Life Is Art invites everyone – artists of all disciplines, art professionals, art collectors, and art fans to come to our networker for the arts community! Creative Connections is a chance to meet other artists, gallerists, dealers, collectors, and art fans to discuss issues facing the arts community in Miami, network, pass out business cards, and just have fun! This month we are sponsored by Carrabba’s on Miam Beach!
The buffet is open 8pm – 9pm and includes these yummy treats:
Caesar Salad
Bruschetta
Chicken Wings
Chicken Marsala
Penne Pomo

This is planned to be a monthly series. At every Creative Connections event, Life Is Art is bringing in a professional to do a short presentation on a subject relevant to working artists, followed by a personal question and answer period.

This month we have Kathleen Carignan from LegalArt Miami. LegalArt is a non-profit, member-based organization that provides legal services to artists. Please check out their website for all the details – www.legalartmiami.org. We are very thankful that Kathleen has volunteered her time for this. The presentation starts at 8:30pm, do not miss it.

Carrabba’s is graciously donating a yummy buffet and complimentary drinks! Be sure to say thanks to the propietor, Gary Paciello, for all their support. Check out their website for their menu and other specials – www.carrabbas.com. Also, everyone who comes gets a coupon for a free appetizer for their next visit!

The event is completely free, though contributions are gratefully accepted. Your support helps us continue to help the arts community.

As seen in Forbes (Best of the Web) and Cosmopolitan Magazine (“Top New Ways to Meet”), our NetParty Networking Events are held in each city’s hippest nightspots and “combine business networking with social fun.”

You are invited to RSVP For Free Admssion for our evening of business and social networking at Passion at the Hard Rock, through July 30 ($10 at the door after July 30 with RSVP; $15 without RSVP).

CREATIVAS GROUP PUBLIC RELATIONS BRINGS BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND SOCIAL NETWORKING EVENT CONNECTIONS & COCKTAILS

(Miami, FL) May 26, 2009—Creativas Group Public Relations is ready to bring back South Florida’s premier professionals networking event to the River Lounge located in the Epic Hotel. The Connections & Cocktails networking event brings South Florida’s top professionals together to improve their business and community. Connections & Cocktails was a concept created to bring decision-makers together in a casual and socially driven environment, as opposed to what many consider “typical” and costly networking events. Co-hosted by Can I have your Attention Advertising and Marketing, One Source Branding, and 880AM The Biz the May Connections & Cocktails event plans to be the most successful one up to date.

Creativas Group Public Relations headed by Liza Santana and Gabriel Pineres came up with the concept after attending various networking events around town. Usually they were found to be affairs where members would have to pay a high membership fee and/or pay a substantial amount to attend each event in a delicate economy. Connections & Cocktails was planned to be a completely different animal and has thrived ever since its launch date over 2 years ago. The concept is simple; bring together a group of active, affluent professionals for a social event at a high-end venue featuring complimentary featured cocktails. There is absolutely no cost for guests to be part of Connections & Cocktails. It’s no wonder guests love this event, the casual nature of this affair takes off the pressure to meet, greet, and make contacts found at other networkers and “mixers.” Connections & Cocktails started out as a small event with an attendance of about 40 guests. ABOUT ANGELO AND MAXIE’S
Since opening on Park Avenue South in Manhattan’s Flatiron District in 1996, Angelo and Maxie’s Steakhouse (A&M) has become a culinary institution in New York City. In 2007, the company opened a spin off and sister restaurant, Maxie’s Grill, a relaxed American style eatery and bar. The second location for A&M opened in Coconut Grove, Fla. at the Mayfair Hotel & Spa in late 2008. Angelo and Maxie’s restaurants are value-added, contemporary, upscale eateries serving an abundance of American cuisine. The original restaurant’s name was chosen from the hit tune “Lullaby on Broadway” from hit musical “42nd Street”. Angelo and Maxie’s in Coconut Grove serves three meals: breakfast is served from 7-11 a.m.; lunch is served from 11:30 a.m. -3 p.m.; dinner is served from 5-11 p.m.; the lobby bar is open 11 a.m. to close. Prix Fixe Menu at Pacific Time with famed Chef, Jonathan Eismann

“The style of food, although certainly Asian/Pacific, migrates constantly with strong influences from Indonesia, Vietnam, India and its provinces. It is our intention to provide a culinary experience that is unique, light, refreshing and healthful. Our particular culinary techniques are a fusion of Eastern and Western and there is a Japanese sensibility in many of our plate presentations. Flavors and textural combinations are bold and our balance of aromatics and acidity is a major component in our cookery,” says Chef/Owner Jonathan Eismann.

About the Eleventh Judicial Circuit Historical Society

The Eleventh Judicial Circuit Historical Society is a new affinity group of the Historical Museum of Southern Florida. The group’s mission is to preserve, document, procure, collect, and memorialize the history of South Florida’s rich legal heritage. The Society will work in collaboration with the Historical Museum to collect, research and exhibit the documents, photographs and artifacts of the Eleventh Circuit Court so that they remain available for future generations.

The Eleventh Judicial Circuit, along with the legal professionals who labor within its jurisdiction, is an important part of South Florida’s history. Through the use and application of law, South Florida has developed from a series of non-descript counties, whose primary industries were shipwrecking and the refinement of starch, into a thriving and diverse metropolitan area. All the while, the Eleventh Judicial Circuit has grown with South Florida with its primary goal of contributing to a lawful society.

This Historical Museum affinity group will serve the interests of the bench and bar, the academic community, and the general public through its publications and exhibitions. In addition, the Society will honor those who have made special contributions to the community by presenting appropriate memorials and/or portraits, sponsor special events and projects consistent with its mission. The group will also sponsor symposiums that will educate the diverse people of our community about the history of Florida’s Eleventh Judicial Circuit.

For more information regarding the Historical Museum’s Eleventh Judicial Circuit Historical Society, please contact the Development Office at 305.375.1615 or development@hmsf.org.
