In her studio, Fache will have some of her recent works in exhibition. Among them, “La Otra Mirada” an acrylic 3D painting, big paintings and a new installation.

Her work unfolds the juncture of parallel scenarios that occur simultaneously to quotidian realities, providing dimensions of escape against the society status quo, leverage a reconnection through her canvas portals.

Color is essential in Fache’s work; she explores its infinite combinations and balance through careful blending primary and secondary colors, re- contextualizing the concept of coexistence, time and universality; a return to the essential.

Her work employs a variety of materials including traditional canvas, but also introducing unusual artifacts, expanding outside of the two-dimensional plane of the canvas and into the surrounding environment.

Fordistas is pleased to present a new exhibition, “Newspeak,” by Puerto Rican artist JUFE at the Yo <3 305 Gallery in Wynwood. JUFE’s latest exhibition, ‘Newspeak’, sets out to explore the short-form language that is quickly redefining how we communicate one pixel at a time: Emoji.

Drawing inspiration from the fictional short-form language created by the totalitarian state in George Orwell’s novel 1984, JUFE’s ‘Newspeak’ focuses on the benefits of today’s widespread use of Emoji as a short-form communication. To JUFE, Emoji’s have increased our ability to express universal emotions otherwise difficult to articulate through syllables.

“Emoji’s are more open. They help us break down existing language barriers,” explains JUFE, who chose to capture 20 of his most used Emoji’s on canvas.

During his solo exhibition, a series of limited edition signed prints will be made available for purchase ranging from $20-$100, the complete proceeds of which will benefit Salute to Education (www.stescholarships.org).

About Fordistas

The Fordistas program is a platform for emerging arts + culture powered by South Florida Ford. Following the success of the 2013 Art Basel exhibition Friends and Family, street artists Axel Void, 2ALAS, Jufe, Pastel, Jaz, 2501 and Alexis Diaz, will be provided with a year-long residency through which Fordistas will make available living quarters, materials, the opportunity to feature their work in solo Art Walk exhibitions as well as to develop their work within a talent space where the local meets the global in order to demonstrate South Florida’s influence upon their work and vice versa.

The Fordistas Residency Program will culminate during Art Basel 2014 for a final exhibition that will document the process of these artists brought together by the collective in order to showcase not only how their work is affected by the city and, in turn, how the city affects their creative expression but also how relationships inform and transform artistic production.

Young Performers Light Up the Night for Young Talent Big Dreams Finals

By Michael R. Malone, The Children’s Trust

Before beginning his original spoken word piece for the Young Talent Big Dreams finals, David Woodward paused in front of the microphone and closed his eyes, seeming to disappear.

Then he opened his eyes and launched his emotional performance, a fusion of words and gestures that spoke of the frustration and sometimes fury of the many boys and young men in Woodward’s Little Havana neighborhood who seek to rise above their poverty and shatter the stereotypes that weigh against them.

For his originality and creativity, Woodward, a 16-year-old junior and one of the top writers in his AP English course at SLAM Miami Charter Middle/High School, was named the overall Grand Prize Winner of Young Talent Big Dreams. This year marked the fourth and most ambitious rendition of the countywide talent contest, coordinated by the Actor’s Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre and sponsored by The Children’s Trust.

The cadre of judges, all professional artists or art critics, chose Woodward over a host of amazingly talented young musicians, dancers, composers and wordsmiths performing in a range of categories, both individual and group. For the top prize, Woodward received $500 in cash and a free trip for two – air fare, hotel and passes – to attend the live American Idol finale in Los Angeles, CA, courtesy of WSVN CH7.

Woodward, who’s been rhyming, rapping and creating original poetry since elementary school, credited his English teacher, Crystal Espinosa, at SLAM for helping him craft his award-winning performance piece. With her guidance, he revised the piece more than twenty times, working steadily on it for more than a month.

“Though I like to write, I wasn’t much of a reader before. The experience of competing in YTBD really taught me about perfecting my writing craft,” said Woodward, nicknamed the “silent assassin” by his classmates for the riveting power and precision infused in his work.

Winners were chosen for each of the categories, and 27 acts competed in all in the finals held Saturday, May 3 at the Actor’s Playhouse. These contestants were selected from the hundreds that participated over the past four months in the total seven auditions held at venues around the county.

“Every year the talent gets better and better, and the dreams get bigger and bigger for this competition,” said Charles M. Auslander, president and CEO of The Children’s Trust, adding that “The Trust is dedicated to helping to encourage the dreams of the children of Miami-Dade County.

Throughout the finals night as he has at all the auditions, emcee Earl Maulding kept the audience caffeinated with his infectious good humor as he sang the high praises of the performers who were competing and those who auditioned over the past few months.

¨These kids are just beyond believing. For many of them this contest is the first time that they walk onto a stage for an audition, but to hear and see them – you’d never know it. Their talents – and courage – are just off the charts,” commented Maulding, who directs the Young Audiences Theatre at Actors’ Playhouse.

Individual first-place winners in each category received $200. Ysabella Reyes, a 10-year-old who studies dance at Dance Hall and who dreams of becoming a ballroom dancer and choreographer wooed judges with her Individual Dance performance. Abdias L. Armenteros, a 9th grade student at Miami Union Academy took top prize in Individual Musical Instrument with his spirited saxophone performance. In the relatively new category for Individual Original Composition, Javmar Perez-Contreras, a 14-year-old pianist who attends Pinecrest Preparatory Middle High School, won first prize in stiff competition.

Carolina Rivero, an 8th-grader at St. Thomas the Apostle, delivered a spirited rendition of Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” to win Individual Vocal Pop/Rock/Rap. Judges awarded top prize for Individual Vocal Theatre/Jazz/Classical to Amanda Gonzalez-Piloto, a freshman vocalist at the New World School of the Arts, who delighted the audience with her version of “Taylor the Latte Boy.”

In Bands competition, One Love, comprised of five young musicians – Carina Ubinas, 15, Joshua Paulus-Rosenow, 15, Carlos Ubinas, 14, Michael Ubinas, 11, and Gabriela Ubinas, 9 – who’ve been performing together just a few months, took top prize. Each musician received $50. In Group Dance, Monica Delgado, an 8th grader at Coral Way K-8, and Anne Wright, an 8th grader at Westminister Christian School, won top honors and $100 each. Both are dancers with the Thomas Armour Youth Ballet. Imani Coker, 16, and Naya Schere, 17, won top honors for Group Musical Instrument for their viola duet. Both are musicians in Coral Reef Senior High’s Orchestra Magnet. The two also received $100 each.

All category winners received master classes taught by local professionals and opportunities to attend a range of professional performances over the coming year; a pair of subscriptions to the Actors’ Playhouse 2014-15 Mainstage Season; local restaurant certificates; and professional headshots for their portfolios from Alberto Romeu Photography. The Individual Dance Winner also received a full scholarship to the Thomas Armour Youth Ballet.

Judges for the finals performance included: David Arisco, artistic director at Actors’ Playhouse; Lynn Martinez, WSVN CH7 News Anchor; Mary Carmen Catoya, Principal Dancer, Miami City Ballet; Howard Cohen, Features Writer, The Miami Herald; Natalie Lewis-Schere, Co-Founder and Executive Director of PATH; and Joel Someillan, Award-winning musical producer of Nickelodeon’s Dora The Explorer and Go Diego Go! TV shows.

Early in the evening, Actors’ Playhouse executive producing director Barbara Stein welcomed local dignitaries and graciously thanked the many event sponsors. At the end of the night, the stage was filled with beaming contestants, purple Finalist medallions swinging at their necks. Stein’s welcome words still echoed in the confettied air.

“This has been the most amazing competition, one that inspires the dreams of so many and that we’re so glad to be a part of. Nobody’s leaving here tonight who’s not a first-class winner.”

Photographs of Cordoba Medieval Street Fair on 5/4/14

Cordoba Medieval Street Fair in Miami Shores on Sunday, May 4, 2014.  As part of the Opening Weekend festivities of Everybody Drinks the Same Water, Miami Theater Center hosted a family-friendly, four-block-long street fair in Miami Shores. Inspired by medieval Córdoba, the street fair will feature jugglers, flamenco and belly dancers, stilt performers, a contortionist, artists, live drummers and musicians, craftspeople, food trucks, face painting, and a parade that will showcase the cast of Everybody Drinks the Same Water

“EVERYBODY DRINKS THE SAME WATER begins as a Christian King has just taken control of the city of Cordoba, Spain, ending more than 500 years of Islamic rule. Moments after entering the castle, the new ruler drinks a glass of water and becomes violently ill. His family accuses the Muslim community of attempting to assassinate him, but the picture gets murkier with reports of Jews, Muslims, and other Christians getting sick. Evidently, the entire public water supply has been poisoned. Fear, anger, and suspicion infect the town. Frustrated by their elders’ inability to see beyond the finger pointing, three teenagers of different faiths decide to work together to unravel the mystery. Add to the mix inter-religious flirtations with potentially fatal consequences, and you get an engaging look at the past that teaches powerful lessons about the present.”

As a paralyzed artist, art has played an important role for David in overcoming tremendous personal challenges. David’s artwork is a wide-ranging collection of mosaics, design, symmetry, typography, and photography. Kowalewski’s current work plays with traditional and city lifestyles that capture the viewers eye with vivid color and unfamiliar locale.

2J Justin Beal and Jesse Willenbring: Exhaustion Conversation with the artists and Opening Reception 5/3/14

On view May 3-June 14, 2014
Gallery Hours: Tuesday-Saturday, 10am-5pm

Exhaustion is the debut exhibition by 2J, a new collaborative venture between sculptor Justin Beal and painter Jesse Willenbring. Building on Beal’s background as an architect and Willenbring’s background as a graphic designer, 2J is a hybridized approach to object-making based on refined geometries and extreme surface treatments. Images culled from both artists’ archives of source material are printed and painted directly on glass with varying degrees of transparency and arranged in space like so many layers of a photoshop files rendered at an architecturalscale. Treating images with a sculptural sensibility, 2J produces furniture, objects and installations that collapse the boundary between surface and support and undermine the conventional binaries of repression and expression that so often divide the realms of design and art.

Exhaustion is a site-specific installation designed to address both Locust Project’s interior architecture and its location at the center of Miami’s Design District. The exhibition includes tables and walls made from steel and glass and layered with imagery from a variety of sources, including Marco Zanini’s designs for Memphis Milano, pre-digital print advertisements for Hilti Tools, Geoffrey Beene and Herman Miller and scans from Egon von Furstenberg’s seminal book Decorating for Men: The Power Look at Home. The tables and walls throughout the gallery support a series of vertical and horizontal glass planes that divide the space into layers of superimposed and overlapping imagery. Each glass panel is printed with a directto-substrate digital printing method more commonly associated with commercial signage and advertising. The images in the exhibition, many of which have previously appeared both in print and in Willenbring and Beal’s work, have been recycled, repeated and manipulated to the point of exhaustion and then redeployed as part of 2J’s visual language. As a final gesture, a selection of works by Beal and Willenbring will hang on and amidst the walls.

Justin Beal received a BA in Architecture from Yale and an MFA from the University of Southern California. He also attended the Whitney Independent Studio Program. He has had recent solo exhibitions at Bortolami and ACME Los Angeles and LA>

Jonathan Brooks

Kelan K. Putbrese
I am an Artisan, and I am a maker of Alchemic Contrivances… with fanciful natures that are intriguing, fun, and a bit absurd – with a daring dash of Steampunk!
And these Contrivances, they come from what? you ask. Well, to answer that in a roundabout way, I’ll start you with a bit of my background. My interests are manifold. I had the opportunity to grow up near the Smithsonian museums and the National Gallery of Art. Visiting these was an oft loved adventure. Another adventure I love is reading: Science-fiction, history, and whatever I could pore through in the sciences.
I was fascinated by such classics as “The Time Machine,” “Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea,” “Frankenstein,” and last but not least “Green Eggs and Ham.” These worlds are filled with adventure, strange devices, and many curiosities; indeed the many stories and movies of the like filled my life with imagination and creative energy.
My pieces, fabricated individually from an amalgam of both old and contemporary parts, are born from these stories. They are fashioned from a day before mass production and describe, today, a retro-futuristic style.
These days I’ll often be found in what I call my Lab tinkering, aside my Alchemist Lamp, with devices that may have been found in any of these stories.

Edwive Seme
Edwive Seme is an emerging artist in Miami who has spent most of his life drawing from the inspirations he got from cartoons. He continuously evolve his style and explore new grounds to not only grow as an artist but to also present something fresh to whoever sees his work. He wants to question the world as we know it through his artworks and therefore always tries to focus as much on the subject matter as the quality in his works. When he draws/ paints, he involves himself in the process as much as possible, so that he can become connected to everything he creates; in a way each piece of art is a piece of him. He believes this is one of the best ways to create because having a connection to his creations brings out a certain passion, which can be seen in the final product. His ultimate goal in the final product is to provide visual pleasure, mental turbulence and questioning, and emotional connection.

Net Impact
We provide service programs through Service Corp to help local sustainable businesses and nonprofits by offering our skills, expertise, and knowledge as working professionals to help organizations overcome their challenges to becoming more successful. The Service Corp programs are performed quarterly with the help of a rotating expert Panel, chosen every month from professionals in sustainability, running nonprofits, and entrepreneurs who have faced and overcame similar challenges as those we help.

Badges of Courage Foundation
Badges of Courage Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, was founded by Macarena Zilveti in 2010. Her great-grandmother, grandmother, mother and aun had breast cancer and were all survivors. After her mother had a radical mastectomy, Macarena knew she had to do something to help others afflicted with this terrible disease. The Badges of Courageâ„¢ were created to help raise funds and to pay tribute to these strong and courageous women.
The foundation provides patients who have been recently diagnosed with breast cancer and in treatment, with basic living expenses such as mortgage and rent payments, child care payments, utilities, food, medical insurance premiums, and other life necessities. Our goal is to give these women tranquility and hope at a time when they need it most— when they are faced with breast cancer.

The artists in the exhibition each spent a month living and working in the park, immersed in the ecological and cultural concerns of the River of Grass. Their works explore many facets of our cultural experience of nature in this World Heritage Site. In Flight, the Everglades are considered through aerial views of suburban encroachment, birds taking wing, the ethereal nature of wind, and even the stark contrast of nuclear missiles housed deep in the wilderness.

Galleria Ca’ d’Oro

Miami Design District.

Rosa Rosae an exhibition showcasing the exceptional works by talented artists Ludmilla Radchenko and Vittorio Sacco begins Saturday, May 17th.

An invitation only reception for an advance viewing of the exhibition will be held on Friday evening, May 16th. It is being held during Fashion Week in Miami, a moment where both art and fashion cross over in one of Miami’s most creative and exciting times of the year.

Galleria Ca’ d’Oro is honored to announce an exhibition showcasing the exceptional works by talented artists Ludmilla Radchenko and Vittorio Sacco. Curated by Gloria Porcella, director and owner of the famous Roman and Miami Galleries and entitled Rosa Rosae, it is designed to bring to Miami the artistic flavor of these unique European artists.

The exhibition, beginning Saturday, May 17 and running for three weeks, will be held at the newly opened space of Galleria Ca’ d’Oro, Suite 105F, 4141 NE Second Avenue in Miami’s Design District. The Galleria’s goal is to grow together with the most talented emerging European artists by bringing quality, design and innovation to South Florida. Very different from each other in terms of style, medium, personalities and artistic orientations, Ludmilla Radchenko and Vittorio Sacco are united in this show through the theme of roses; a subject matter portrayed by both artists in one of their main works, which gave name to the exhibition, Rosa Rosae.

Ludmilla Radchenko, a young female Siberian Pop artist has the ability to blend unique and sometimes startling photographs with aspects of digital collage and lively acrylic painting to create an entirely unique art form. In the classic Pop Art style, Radchenko presents her subjects over and over, loading it with social content in order to expand and at times exploit its meaning. The bright colors and broad lines that appear as she applies paint to the digital prints serve to create new levels of meaning and also add emotive elements to the overall effect. The results are paintings that reverberate with numerous meanings meant to connect with the viewer.

Vittorio Sacco always had a great passion for photography. The artist’s work truly embodies an Italian essence that expresses a passion for food, a keen eye for simple beauty, style and design. While in New York he joined Bianchi Films where he was able to combine the graphic beauty of his still photography with the elegance of motion pictures. Throughout his career the artist has worked for many important advertising campaigns such as Lindt, Barilla and Kraft among others. Vittorio Sacco is one of those artists who make food and simple objects into poetry. They evoke in the spectator a sense of tangibility and desire to reach what is portrayed. The artist has the ability to transform simple and common everyday objects into appealing, luxurious and sensual elements, which stimulate our senses. On the other hand, his black and white photos of places are somewhat supernatural, where he immortalizes empty spaces where presence is perceived among the ruins. Primitive and yet modern they seem to evoke a post-apocalyptic scene.

Since 1970, Galleria Ca’ d’Oro (House of Gold), located near Piazza di Spagna, one of Rome’s most iconic and prestigious destinations has been renown as one of the leading contemporary art galleries in Italy representing famous figures in the art world such as Dali, de Chirico, and Filippo de Pisis. In 2010 the Gallery opened its doors in Miami. During Art Week and Art Basel Miami Galleria Ca’ d’Oro made its mark in Miami with the most talked about public art installations, the Regeneration Art Project, the exhibition of the famous Pink snails and during Art Basel Miami 2012, with the FOReverglades project. In 2013 the Galleria participated in distinguished Art Fairs such as Context-Art Miami, Scope New York and Art Wynwood Miami. The same year the gallery successfully reintroduced 8 Giant Red Snails in Central Park and Columbus Circle in New York City. The installation’s popularity demonstrated once again the international prestige and acclaim of the gallery in the US.

Today with its new location in the Miami Design District Galleria Ca’ d’Oro lead by Owner and Director Gloria Porcella continues to bring its experience and expertise to the US promoting Italian and European contemporary art with passion and enthusiasm. Galleria Ca’ d’Oro offers not only some of the most important works by artists of the 20th, and 21st centuries, but also offers personalized art advisory, the implementation of public art installations and museum quality exhibitions. Among the artists represented are Giorgio de Chirico’s Sculptures, Salvador Dali’s sculptures, Alfredo Rapetti Mogol and the famous Cracking Art Group animals by William Sweetlove, Renzo Nucara, Federico Comelli Ferrari and Ivan Lardshneider.

Paris When It Sizzles is a film shot at a pocket park on Normandy Isle, Miami
Beach, where most of the streets were named after French cities and architectural landmarks by the developers. In this brief performance, the artist will do her best impression of Audrey Hepburn to tell the story of why she herself has never been to Paris. She will recount the ways in which Paris and other bits of French culture have shaped her destiny without her ever having stepped foot in the great French city, including her first French kiss, her flunking out of high school French, and her obsession with the Alice B. Toklas Cookbook, written while the author and G. Stein were living in France.

Untitled (Montauciel) by Adler Guerrier is a gestural homage to the experiments of the Mongolfier brothers. In a live demonstration at Versailles. On September 19, 1783, before King Louis XVI of France and Queen Marie Antoinette, the Montgolfier brothers placed a sheep named Montauciel (ascends to heaven), a rooster and a duck in a basket as passengers in hot air balloon flight that lasted 8 minutes. When the balloon safely landed, it proved the air was breathable at the relative altitude reached in flight.

Life Is Art presents Art/Work Connections #18: Instagram Tips with Anthony Jordon at  Eleazar Delgado Studio on Tuesday, April 15, 2014.  Art/Work Connections is a monthly series of seminars presented by Life Is Art featuring business professionals speaking on a variety of topics vital to the success of working artists. This month, Anthony Jordon, professional photographer and social media expert, taught us all about Instagram, one of the fastest growing social media platforms.

Anthony is a Miami-based photographer specializing in engagement, destination wedding, event/social, and portrait photography. In 2013, Anthony organized two major international photography events in Miami; The Scott Kelby Worldwide photowalk, the first of its in Downtown Miami, and Help Portrait Miami, partnering with the Miami Rescue Mission. Anthony has been an online moderator for Cloak Inc.’s One 12 Haiti Solidarity Virtual March, as well as a guest speaker for Photovoice. Credits include Instagram Ambassador for Scope Miami 2012, Heineken Murals/Heineken Light Project Social Media Ambassador Miami and Washington, DC (2012-2013), photographer for Eleazar Delgado, JLPR, Red Bull, GLAAD, Absolut, and Muscle Milk just to name a few. Anthony’s work has also been published in the Miami and Broward-Palm Beach New Times, Miami Magazine, miamiartzine.com and he is a current contributor to Soul Of Miami.

Originally conceived at our home, Eleazar Delgado Studio has always been the artist’s creative space. The idea grew into a gathering place for our friends, mostly artists in their own rights, to showcase their current work and preview concepts. We made it official in 2010 when we opened a public space in Wynwood. Today in addition to being Eleazar’s personal art studio, we host local talents and leaders who need a professional environment to showcase, educate, and enrich the community at large.

About the Art/Work Connections Program: The Art/Work Connections program is a monthly series of business seminars held at galleries and art spaces around South Florida targeted at artists and those working in the arts. Everyone is welcome and can benefit from them. Business professionals are brought in to cover a wide variety of topics including health care, financial planning, contract negotiation, copyright law, portfolio development, social media, marketing and much more. awc.lifeisartfest.org

Enrique Flores-Galbis shows his latest series titled “Dreaming Havana: The Collision of Memory and Fact” at the Williams McCall Gallery South of Fifth. Kicking off with an artist reception that is open to the public on Saturday, April19th at 6 pm, the exhibit will run until May 6th. KOBRAND Fine Wine and Spirits is sponsoring the event and will debut a specialty drink from its new Coco line of Alizee.

Enrique Flores-Galbis is a landscape and portrait painter. Born in Havana, Cuba, he left in 1961 with Operation Pedro Pan, arriving alone in South Florida at the age of 9. Also a novelist, his award-winning book 90 Miles to Havana was based on the events that led to his departure and the life he encountered in the U.S.

Flores-Galbis explains, “This ongoing series of paintings began before the first return to my birthplace, my magnetic center, the island of Cuba. The first images, painted from memories, were tinged by the longings and emotions that this landscape evokes in the heart of an exile. After that first visit I started painting urban themes where the collision of memory and fact is the most violent. The bare buildings of Havana, bitten by the salt and wind have the look of paper-thin, brittle honeycombs. The clanging approach of an old Ford retrofit with a sputtering Fiat engine is unsettling but another worthy subject to paint if you want to address the intersection of nostalgia, history and cold fact. These images did not come into the studio fully formed and asking to be painted. Rather, they bubbled up and then coalesced into a narrative when these messy notions and feelings were plugged into, and then shaped by the physical constraints and peculiarities of my chosen media. The alchemic process functioned as both antenna and lightning rod to focus and materialize electrical impulses– memory and fact. Although each painting presented as a surprise, they were carefully tuned to create viable narrative structures that directly communicate rather than vaguely resonate.”

Flores-Galbis received a Master of Fine Arts Degree from the Parsons School of Design in 1992. He has served on the Faculty of the New Jersey Center for Visual Arts for over twenty years and Parsons School of Design for over sixteen years as well as the Morris and Montclair Museums in New Jersey.

Flores-Galbis’ work can be found in corporate, university, and private collections throughout the country.

Inaugural Gallery Solo Show: Maggie Génova-Cordoví “Soirée”

Oxenberg Fine Art is excited and proud to announce it will re-open its gallery doors. The gallery has moved to vibrant Wynwood Art District. The grand opening reception will feature Cuban-born artist Maggie Génova-Cordoví. Oxenberg Fine Art will be hosting a grand opening reception for the artist. The artist will be in attendance.

Artist Statement:
My passion for the Early Renaissance relates to the artists’ uses of profiles to depict these ladies in what they considered a modest and befitting pose; and the fact that these portraits were usually kept wrapped in fabric, and put away only to be viewed by a selective audience. When I work on the Early Italian Renaissance women, it is all about their serene demeanor. I refrain from the use of texture, and they are done as monochromatic drawings using only Indian Ink and a splash of Cuban coffee for color. The coffee is usually used as a symbolic veil that covers the lady, like the cloth on which these portraits were wrapped during the 1400s.

In the case of the Spanish Baroque ladies, their cage-like costumes, so befitting of the roles of women during this time, provoke me. In those paintings I tend to exaggerate their attire and cage-like effect of both their hair and dresses and often get carried away with their stories. I use tremendous amounts of texture and color to execute these paintings.

Mauricio Madrid – Estudiomau
The yarn goes as follows… Colombian-American painter estudiomau (rhymes with cow ) is constantly bridging the space between conventional 2 dimensional and kinetic 3 dimensional works. The work often welcomes the viewer to experience each piece using multiple senses. His paintings employ layers of colors on a variety of substrates ranging from canvas to reverse painting on clear acrylic panels. He uses his years of experience in various mediums to separate and create multiple planes. The subject matter commonly includes abstracted figurative focal points broken down to organic shapes and forms, depicting images and people he has encountered. He uses the backgrounds to compliment the subject in an expressionist infusion of emotion, color and, texture. Keeping to a maximum of 6 principle colors and mixing and blending on the final painting or surface he creates a palette that reflects the colors that surround him.

Trek Six”s Odds and Ends show

Opening reception March 6th 7pm-10pm

Trek six will be raffling off an original 3ft x 4ft piece during art walk saturday!

Don’t miss out on this great opportunity to have work by a Miami legend!

“Odds & Ends is a collection of works that although were not design to function as a complete body of work do show a linear form of thought and ideas in transition. Many times when an artist is creating they go through many trials and errors before achieving the style or aesthetic they want , this body of work presents old pieces, new pieces and works that haven’t seen too much light but clearly show a path from point A to point B. Most of the work will be aerosol but there are some pieces that showcase acrylics along side their spraycan counter parts to create an atmosphere that is colorful, surreal, and curious with lines , geometry and experimentation.”

Additional Information:

The River Of Art is a dynamic business networker and art showcase combined. We provide more than just a platform for professionals to get together, discuss business strategies, make connections and find clients or suppliers, we create synergies to help promote business by including a breathtaking art show!

Art is an inspiring talking point, whether you like a piece or are puzzled by it, discussing it is a great way to break the ice. Culture is one of the primary elements that build community. Hosting a business networker within an art show is a unique way to encourage socializing. Some events include live performances and other surprises!

Ernie Novo
My practice is primarily concerned with universal aspects of the human condition. Statements which hold true to all people anywhere in the world at any time. I am interested in the essence of what it is to be a sentient being so as to inspire greater self-awareness and harmony.

Gustavo Ramirez
I am a self-taught artist that is deeply influenced by the American Abstract Expressionists (Gorky, Hoffman, Pollock, de Kooning, Rothko, and Newman), Post-Impressionist van Gogh and the Neo-expressionists (Guston, Schnabel, and Basquiat). I believe fine art should be available and affordable to the common everyday person.

Jennifer Maria
Jennifer Maria grew up painting and drawing before immersing herself into photography. She intended to use her photographs as references for her paintings, but ended up falling in love with the process of creating and capturing with a camera. She produces mostly digital photography, however, she also delights in creating with black & white film. She happily engages much time, love & care into creating silver gelatin prints in her darkroom. She continues to paint– primarily on canvas, though she also enjoys utilizing the human body as canvas. Jennifer Maria draws inspiration from many sources: her dreams, her loved ones, travels, the ocean and more.

“RIDING THE SUN”

BlinkGroup Gallery is proud to be representing rising street artist Kazilla in her exhibition “RIDING THE SUN” at the Wynwood Exhibition Center in Cafeina. Kazilla brings amazing sophistication to the table when it comes to her skillfully executed artwork. An unexpected and fast paced dart to the stars. “RIDING THE SUN”, displays a retrospective in light / color / nature / beauty. Looking back on the power of creation while moving forward in the path of destruction. Join us for the closing reception Friday, February 28th from 7-10 PM.

Kazilla’s work speaks of dreams versus reality. Each finely rendered piece encompasses a different message to all who gaze upon their elegant beauty. These visually eloquent pieces of work are to be admired for their craft, and imagery. Harmonic relationships between people and nature are successfully achieved through an abundance of symbolism, a flourish of colors, and a visual language or energy extended through every piece. Please join us for an amazing, unique opportunity to witness a clash of fierceness and beauty.

Kazilla’s exhibition is partnered with Blink Group, (A marketing firm for visual artists). Hosted by Alexandra Novaro, co-founder of BlinkGroup. For more information regarding “RIDING THE SUN” exhibition, contact Alexandra Novaro at Alexandra@Blinkgroup.net. Or visit BlinkGroup.net.

gastOpening Reception March 8, 7-10pm
Locust Projects
3852 North Miami Avenue
Miami, FL 33127
www.locustprojects.org

Locust Projects is pleased to present Inholdings, an exhibition of new work by Miamibased artist Christy Gast. The two works in this exhibition, a full-scale textile replica of a Nike Hercules missile and a single-channel video entitled War Drums (Nuclear Clock), refer to the Hole-in-the-Donut region of the Everglades. The works in Inholdingsshift the focus between natural, cultural and desired histories by appropriating craft traditions to document a place.

CG2_War Drums Production Still 2014The missile sculpture, Gast’s largest textile work to date, is suspended in the main gallery as if stored in a hangar awaiting activation. It is constructed from botanical textile designed and printed by the artist, which overlays images of tomato bushes, Brazilian pepper trees and lovegrass. Remnants of agriculture, invasive species and native flora compete for surface space and reference particular moments of conflict in the landscape.

The single channel video installation War Drumswas shot in one of the few existing stands of pine forest in Dade County. The camera pans the horizon in a continuous circle once per minute, moving like the second hand of a clock. At 12 o’clock the camera passes a woman playing traditional Afro Cuban rhythms on a conga. At 6 o’clock, the camera pans another drummer playing snare cadences, military drumcorps style. Embodying the cultural conflicts of the Cold War, the drummers pass beats between themselves as the listen deeply to, and interpret, the sounds of the forest.

Hole-in-the-Donut, the site Gast examines for Inholdings, is marked by invasions and colonizations, both ecological and geopolitical. It is a deforested pine rockland in the Everglades that was plowed for tomato fields in the early 1900’s. A HM69 Nike Missile base located there housed three nuclear warheads and was on high alert during the Cuban Missile Crisis. The base closed in 1979; the farms foreclosed decades earlier. Brazilian pepper invaded the fallow fields, and eradication required scraping the fields to the fossilized limestone bedrock. Lovegrass is the first native plant to recolonize this moonlike terrain.

Gast’s work stems from extensive research and site visits to places she thinks of as “contested landscapes,” which exhibit evidence of conflict in human desires. She traces, translates or mirrors those conflicts through her art practice.

After receiving his MFA from the University of South Florida Pilote has worked and exhibited throughout the U.S., Canada and Paris. Employing the visual language of automotive exteriors he attempts to conjure a variety of reactions to his materials and subject matter simultaneously as difficult or farcical issues are presented in a slick, seductive manner.

Broward College’s North Campus expands upon its inaugural 2012 / 2013 Artist Talk series with a new line-up of some of South Florida’s most groundbreaking, local and internationally acclaimed artists visual artists. Each of the up and coming and internationally renowned artists involved will present the diverse concepts and aesthetics within their respective bodies of work and direct a hands-on workshop the following night to further allow the public to experience and learn from their artistic processes.

Marina Font:  Dark Continents
February 6 – March 29, 2014

Dina Mitrani Gallery is proud to present Marina Font’s third solo exhibition in the gallery. Her newest series consists of photo-based, mixed media works that exemplify the artist’s continued exploration of the issues of gender, identity, and the woman’s body with all its shapes, forms, cycles and capacity.  Having grown up in Argentina, a patriarchal society that placed much importance on psychoanalysis, Font learned that “Dark Continents” was how Sigmund Freud described female sexuality.  This exhibition, which includes small and large format pieces as well as installations, illustrates the many facets, scientific and emotional, of women.

Font’s photographs of the woman’s physique are printed on poly-cotton and then embroidered with thread and yarn in symbolic patterns and mounted on wooden surfaces.  At times, Font uses found objects such as doilies and buttons to represent the traditional roles of women in the home. The laborious manual application of fabrics and embroidery represent the artist’s expression of her emotional experiences.  There are various works that are a series of photographs, or installations that refer to a woman’s cycles of fertility and how the biological phases are in constant shifting evolution. In her statement, Font writes, “Through this body of work, I am interested in unveiling metaphorically the truth beneath our surface, deeper than the external body, exploring and re-tracing what was once felt by it, as well as the complex relationship between reality and the memory that lives within.”

Marina Font was born in Cordoba, Argentina in 1970. She studied at the Escuela de Artes Visuales Martin A. Malharro, Argentina. She spent the summer of 1998 studying photography at Speos Ecole de la Photographie in Paris, and earned her MFA in Photography from Barry University, Miami in 2009.  She recently had solo exhibitions at The Consulate of Argentina in New York, The Deering Estate at Cutler, Miami and at Gato Gallery, Barry University. She has participated in group shows at The BOCA Museum of Art, The MoCA, North Miami, The Appleton Museum, Ocala, the Museum of Florida Arts, Deland and the Miami Center for the Photographic Arts. She was recently invited to participate in a Night at the Museum at The Bass Museum, Miami Beach, Spring Fling at Locust Projects and Abracadabra at the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood, FL. Her work is included in the Bunnen Collection, Atlanta, The Girl’s Club Collection, Ft. Lauderdale, the Lowe Art Museum at the University of Miami and various important private collections.

Dina Mitrani Gallery opened in November 2008 and specializes in international contemporary photography. The gallery represents emerging and mid-career artists, offers artists talks and lectures as well as photo-based objects and books. The gallery is committed to promoting its artists, as well as working with independent curators to produce unique group exhibitions.

Artists include Nestor Arenas, Randy Burman, Jacqueline Gopie, Donna Haynes, Philip Ross Munro, Lori Nozick, and Sara Stites.

Because members of the LBGT community must at some point make the decision to “come out” the exhibition also features the Homecoming Project. The city will partner with Live Out Loud, the New York gay rights support organization to host the project at the Pembroke Pines Charter High School.

The Homecoming Project enables successful members of the LGBT community to return to middle schools, high schools and colleges across the country to share their own coming out stories, and personal life lessons. Dialogues are sparked, and speakers offer inspiration to the next generation following in their footsteps.

The Gay-Straight Alliance club will welcome Davie native Tracy Wise, an accomplished advertising executive now living and working in New York City to speak at the charter school. Visual and/or literary work by the students will also be exhibited in Which Way Out.

Tuesday, February 11th through Saturday, March 29th, 2014.

Brisky Gallery Miami is proud to present Rendering Thoughts: Sublime interpretations of the mind; an exhibition curated by Luis Valle, Brisky Gallery’s Director.

The exhibit will feature works by over 19 artists both local and international. As Brisky gallery Miami is now in its second year, the portfolio has expanded to include some new faces met during the galleries tenure and Art Basel. Rendering Thoughts is a group exhibit that will showcase some of the galleries’ regular lineup along with some new artist picked up along the way. With an ever growing portfolio Brisky gallery strives to present fresh new work to the Wynwood art scene.

The artists’ mind is a curious enigma, which onlookers ponder. Who, What, Why, Where and How did the artist get to this creation are questions asked by the viewer. Each artist in the show takes a unique approach to manifesting his or her creation. The artist vision first starts as a feeling or a thought, which must then be molded and formed with physical materials in order to be born.

The show will feature a large range of photography as well as many works in painting, sculpture and new media.

The University of Miami is pleased to present Bodypaintography: An exploration of Sentiment, Composition and Body Language by Cynthia M. Fleischmann. Her exhibition will feature naked individuals formally painted and photographed into various environments to create and capture a dialogue between body and place. Her photography encourages the natural human form to be seen as a work of art, highlighting colors, patterns and messages that are found in the world around us that she paints onto the form, finalized with red hands.

Cynthia Fleischmann grew up in Küsnacht, Switzerland until she was 10, spending most of her time outdoors observing, playing sports, running around naked and drawing. Her appreciation for photography developed from her father’s love for American pioneer photographers such as Ansel Adams, Edward Weston and Paul Strand, whose works lined the walls of his gallery Galerie Zur Stockeregg. Moving to Dover, Massachusetts, with her mother and three older sisters imposed a new culture in which English became her prominent language. She was passionately involved in creating sets for school musicals and was nominated as most artistic in her high school. Cynthia has a drive for experimenting, and in 2009 she manifested her painting and photography passions into one art form she calls Bodypaintography. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Miami in 2010 and is completing her MFA in photography. This is her MFA Graduate exhibition.

Leonard Turkel (1930-2011) was named the ‘Father of Florida condominiums” by The Miami Herald and was also the founder of the national restaurant company, The Orange Bowl Corporation. But behind the exterior of the successful entrepreneur, Leonard Turkel had a powerful social conscience. In addition to creating the South’s first anti-segregation sit-ins, he built a legacy including proper inner-city housing and health care, mobile ophthalmology labs and the Miami Midnight Basketball League for at-risk teenagers, Leonard Turkel was an artist who created hundreds of collages and assemblages that mirror his morals of social justice. Following Your Own Sense of Justice is a retrospective of his rarely seen artwork and is a true testament to the legacy of a man that proved to be one of Miami’s greatest mavericks of civic equality and community building. Auction proceeds will be used to provide scholarships for at-risk youth.

An Evening of Art, Wine & Conversation

They say a picture is worth a 1,000 words, in which case ‘i-Miami 2013,’ Marc Schmidt’s debut photography exhibition, speaks volumes. Reminiscent of Walker, Vishniac, Atget, Lange and Arbus, Marc Schmidt’s photography is strong and thought-provoking, reflecting the zeitgeist of the postmodern World. Using the simplest of tools, his iPhone camera and his bicycle for transportation, Schmidt has created a poignant visual essay of the inner city and its denizens. Schmidt’s affinity and respect for his subject matter are evident in the narrative structure of his compositions and the intuitive poetic resonance of his imagery.

Marc Schmidt was born in Chicago and raised in Hamburg. A physician by profession, Schmidt has had a love affair with the art of photography since his teen years when he started documenting street scenes in Hamburg. Schmidt has traveled around the world capturing life in all its aspects for over a decade and has previously published his work only once; a photography essay on a refugee camp in Rwanda. He has been running a successful photo rental studio in Hamburg since 2001. In 2013 he opened CU-1 Gallery in downtown Miami and has been documenting Miami street life since April of the same year.

Photos of the Bird Road Art Walk by Mr Q 305

There’s nothing like a cool Miami night to enjoy a stroll around the Bird Road Art District. No matter what style of art you enjoy the Bird Road Art District has it all. Add to that wine, hors d’oeuvres, Capoeira demonstrations, Cuban Rap music (raw, uncensored protest songs at their best; sung with the pain that only living under oppression can project)…and did I mention the coolest rolling art gallery you ever saw…

Leonard Turkel (1930 – 2011) was coined the “Father of Florida Condominiums” by The Miami Herald and is noted as the pioneer of the Florida condominium development boom. A native of Bronx, New York, he was a U.S. Air Force veteran, developer, restaurateur, businessman, and civil rights activist who played violin and guitar, pitched baseball, had a great left-handed hook shot, and created numerous collages bringing historical photographs to three dimensional form.

The exhibition is more than just an presentation of one man’s avocation. It’s the portrayal of a socially conscious movement, created by a singular vision, devoted to living equally for all.

Virginia Poundstone: BOG—MIA
Locust Projects is pleased to present BOG-MIA, a new installation by New York-based sculptor Virginia Poundstone, known for her exquisitely crafted sculptures that examine the art historical, scientific and economic significance of flowers. The works in this exhibition take their material and formal cues from the logistical machinations of the cut flower industry in Colombia. Miami is the main point of entry for the products of this industry: retail bouquets containing carnations, roses and baby’s breath, which enter Poundstone’s practice as artifacts of a vast industrial system producing the aesthetics of popular emotion.

At Locust Projects, Poundstone describes this vast nature-transforming system through her first video installation, which she likens to a landscape painting. The impressionistic sequences, shot in fields, greenhouses and shipping facilities, set the ambiance for a series of new sculptural works consisting of printed screens, aluminum panels and eternalized flowers. The sculptures are supported by platforms made of brightly printed cardboard shipping boxes scavenged from the importer’s warehouse near Miami International Airport.

Project Room: Alan Gutierrez, Nobody knows me better than you
Locust Projects is pleased to present Nobody knows me better than you, an exhibition by Miami-based artist Alan Gutierrez. Centered around a series of paintings, the exhibition utilizes a suite of theatrical production equipment as an arbitrary means to reframe the exhibition space as a site of production. Throughout the course of the exhibition, the artist will change the installation into different iterations, embracing process and the malleable nature of rehearsal.

Exhibition January 4th – February 6th

Born in Panama of Chinese parents, Mai Yap has been able to magically blend East and West on canvas.

Within the walls of her parents’ home, she was immersed in the beauty, balance and perfection of millennial traditions passed on from one generation to another. Outside those walls, her senses were overcome by the varied colors, sounds and energy of the tropics. Panama’s natural surroundings provided the perfect artistic inspiration.

Ms. Yap’s artistry led her to pursue the focus of her current work, to change the way people look at flowers –from flowers as common products of nature, to flowers as unique miracles of the earth. Through her technique of “extreme close ups,” she tries to compel the viewer to observe flowers in great detail.

Ms. Yap holds a B.A. in Journalism and Graphic Design from the University of Georgia. She is currently teaching at Fairchild Tropical Botanical Gardens.

“The color in my flowers surpasses shape and form. I hope that they will delight the viewer’s senses and enlighten the mind, bringing great enjoyment.”

Pauline A. Goldsmith has worked in the global bio-pharmaceutical industry for over 37 years, in Europe and the U.S. She now runs her own consulting company, Goldsmith Consulting, in Coconut Grove providing business development and project management skills to small and medium-sized companies. Born in the U.K., she has lived in Philadelphia, Boston and Miami.

Ms. Goldsmith is active in many volunteer positions in the local art world, both in the theater and the visual arts. She strives to help others understand the joy the arts can impart. Her love of watercolors and botanical art are a consuming part of her life.

“My love of South Florida’s lush tropical vegetation has encouraged me to use watercolors to translate their beauty to paper, so that it can be shared with everyone. In my attempts to render these plant likenesses into visual art, I have become attached to their subtle transformations in different lights.”

Fernando Vignoli was born in Belo Horizonte, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil, on August 14, 1960. He studied at Colégio Militar (a high school held by the Brazilian Army) and concluded his high school education at Colégio Pitágoras where he majored in architectural design. He graduated in Visual Communication at ESAP Escola Superior de Artes Visuais (University School of Visual Arts). Vignoli’s oil paintings rife with passageways, labyrinths, doors and windows are swathed in light to symbolize the possibility of escape from an unwanted reality. His strict, structured childhood under the watchful eye of his father, an army captain, inspires many of his works.

Looking at his paintings, writes John Ensley Hooker, who contributed to a recent monograph about the artist, “is like walking through a labyrinth of walls painted by him. Either you end up in a dark corner without knowing where to go, or you discover a vibrant view of the artist’s soul.”

Schmidt has traveled around the world capturing life in all its aspects for over a decade and has previously published his work only once; a photography essay on a refugee camp in Ruanda. He has been running a successful photo rental studio in Hamburg since 2001. In 2013 he opened CU-1 Gallery in downtown Miami and has been documenting Miami street life since April of the same year.

Art of Life Film To Be Screened at Big Night in Little Haiti Friday, December 20, 2013

Friday December 20th 2013, 10:00PM – 12:00AM, Moving the Lives of Kids Art Center (MLK Mural) is pleased to present the “Art of Life” as part of Rhythm Foundation and Little Haiti Cultural Center Big Night in Little Haiti. The film will be shown at the Little Haiti Cultural Center Theater located at 212 NE 59th Terrace, Miami, FL 33137.

The feature length film is the directorial debut of famed mural artist, and Executive Director of MLK Mural, Kyle Holbrook. The film screening will be followed by a special performance by Woffgang playing his original track from the score of the movie.

Many young men and women living in hoods across America suffer the absence of a path or a toolkit for survival. Sometimes that toolkit is there, but they just need a guide or an angel to show them to it. In the “Art of Life” the two lead characters Chay and Cheyanne, are looking for a way out of the suffocating pain and misery of their surroundings, but they need a plan. As both develop their artistic skills, their future prospects grow brighter, even if their present environment maintains darkness. Well they be able to escape to the light? In this story, which blends the magic of cinema, animation, sketches, paintings and music, we learn that art is all around us, and realizing this could help make survival more vividly apparent to those trapped in the dark.

Artist Kyle Holbrook directed and costarred in the film playing a magical and mythical character named “Art.” His character blurs the line of reality and is the manifestation of their inspiration, and a guide to their redemption for both lead characters.

“Art of Life” features original music by Pittsburgh native Mac Miller. The Pittsburgh musician only held one job in his life prior to becoming the famed musician and reality show star that he is today, working with MLK Mural. He helped write original music for the film, and worked behind the camera filming sections of the film.

Also costarring in the film is artist and poet Vanessa German, who plays a several roles in the film serving as a muse and inspiration for the characters.

This unique organic and artistic film features scenes shot inside a County Jail, in the middle of the marches during the G20 Summit, and on site during the production of
several MLK Mural Projects around the world. “Art of Life” also features several original pieces by MLK Mural artists woven into scenes as animation.

Audiences will be blown away by the unique and organic process of writing and directing, and will be wowed by this artfully crafted film. There will be a special musical performance following the film by Woffgang presenting an original track from the soundtrack of the film. Art world, immerse yourself within it. www.artoflifethemovie.com

Pérez Art Museum Miami Kicks Off Third Thursdays Music Series with Los Angeles-Based duo Nguzunguzu

Every third Thursday of the month, PAMM brings together an eclectic range of internationally-acclaimed DJs and musicians for an outdoor music series on the terrace by the bay. The evening series, 6-9pm, kicks off with a focus on experimental sounds and diverse cross-genre dance music. Nguzunguzu offers a unique blend of R&B, rap, club, house, kuduro, and grime. Free with museum admission. Drink specials and light bites by Verde restaurant and bar.

Nguzunguzu’s (pronounced en-goo-zoo-en-goo-zoo) otherworldly productions weave energetic polyrhythms, eerie melodies, and dramatic soundscapes to create a new emotive electronic club realm that is sad, sexy, and scary. Raised on 90s R&B/Hip-Hop radio and underground club music, the Los Angeles based duo (Asma Maroof and Daniel Pineda) dig deep to complement the explicitly experimental modern sounds of international club music with some of the freshest urban pop happening now.

Nguzunguzu, which takes its name from a traditional Solomon Island figurehead used to protect against supernatural forces during canoe trips, offers a unique blend of R&B, rap, club, house, kuduro, and grime.

You And I Art Love Mission: “You And I Are Love is an emerging organization that caters to the local Miami art community and working towards spreading our work globally. Our mission is to give back through the power of art. Seeking emerging, talented artists in our community and giving them a platform to exhibit, sell, express their artistic, civic and educational abilities. Our commitment is to create a monthly art show for the local artist to exhibit their art work without charging them a fee and not taking commission from the art sold at our shows, aid in their involvement and bring an enjoyable art experience to our community. We are also working towards creating a positive outlet for children and adults through art therapy and art workshops—to hospitals, schools, cultural art centers and events. We believe love and art set the spirit free and bring us together as one human family because, you and I are love. Join us, together we can spread love through art.”

Photographs of Absolut Night Court on 12/7/13

Absolut Night Court, a showcase of Miami’s best Bloody Marys featuring unique recipes by a team of celebrated local mixologists. Oceanfront between 21st and 22nd street.

This December, Los Angeles-based artist Ry Rocklen unveils his installation Night Court, produced in collaboration with Absolut as the setting for a pop-up art bar during Art Basel in Miami Beach. Night Court is at once a bar, a performance venue, a sports arena and a showroom for Rocklen’s new line of furniture, ‘Trophy Modern’.

Night Court is the latest and most ambitious incarnation of a project that began in 2011 when Rocklen came across a haul of second-hand sports trophies for sale in a thrift store. Rocklen spends a lot of time in junk shops and flea markets, trawling for those objects that were once cherished but which are now almost at the end of their lives. In the purgatory of the second-hand store, these ex-possessions have one last chance to be valued again.

Photographs of Amber Arbucci The Girl at Jellyfish Lake on 12/8/13

Supermodel Amber Arbucci “The Girl at Jellyfish Lake” collection at the exclusive Ocean House Residences on Miami Beach. The collection displays a surrealistic underwater encounter of a Victoria Secret Model and 5 million jellyfish.  These are are self shot and absolutely beautiful and amazing.

Amber Abucci is a fashion model, wildlife photographer/artist who brings beauty, boldness and discipline to everything she does. “I am not interested in just taking a ‘good picture.’ I want my photographs to draw people into the worlds I’ve visited, to join me on my journeys.” And what journeys they are. Deep oceans, thick jungles, wide savannahs, daunting mountains – and the wildlife that populates them – all speak to the soul of this dynamic young adventure photographer as she travels the world.

Owner iStar Residential has captured intimate, resort-like living in the South of Fifth neighborhood with Ocean House’s 28 beachfront homes, including beach front residences exceeding 6,000 square feet. The property’s limited availability, backyard oasis of sand and ocean, and easy access to South Beach’s renowned culture and nightlife make Ocean House one of the world’s most desirable addresses. A multi-million dollar redesign by designer Alison Antrobus preserves Ocean House’s historic integrity – original structure built in 1946 – while transforming its common areas into those of a private residence. The property features world-class amenities as well as exclusive services and perks that offer residents a unique, customized experience in a gracious, residential setting.

A collaborative project featuring world class street and graffiti artists from the Netherlands: The London Police, Niels ‘Shoe’ Meulman and Hass & Hahn – Favela/Philly painting and their international peers will work together to create a garden of murals in the lot on 250 NW 24th Street in Wynwood. The mural installation begins November 28 and ends with a celebration on December 6, 2013.

As an inaugural project, event and a Dutch initiative, Caleidoscoop is working directly with the Consulate General of the Netherlands in New York is contributing with the specific purpose to produce a “satellite fair” that the Consulate can be exceedingly proud of and to demonstrate the ways in which cultural collaborations and contributions of the Dutch can be made during the highly-profiled December Art Fair week.

The lot of 250 NW 24th street is empty now, but will soon be the home of a new 11-unit live/work space and the first development to break ground in the popular community since 2006. The motivation behind 250 Wynwood is “to create a neighborhood so people can keep creating and growing” a fitting mantra for this inaugural event that showcases international cultural involvement and collaboration.

Providing artistic and curatorial support, Caleidoscoop is partnering with Kallenbach Gallery, Andenken and Unruly, three of the most respected galleries in the Netherlands. The promotion and organization of Caleidoscoop is made possible with the efforts of a number of entities. Largely the brainchild of Made Creative, a Dutch nonprofit and Catapult 13, a Miami based design firm, Caleidoscoop has the long term goal of being an annual event in Miami to showcase the extensive art and design talent of the Netherlands.
