The Peter London Global Dance Company, Miami’s newest multicultural dance troupe, heats up the Carnival Studio Theater with a two-night stint featuring a choreographic sampler of six new works entitled “Spring Nights at the Arsht Center.” London’s choreography has received critical acclaim at AILEY’S Summer SIZZLER at the City Corp Theater in New York, NWSA performances at the Gusman Theater, The Colony Theater, South Miami-Dade Cultural Center and at the International Dance Festival in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

A dance visionary and veteran performer with the Martha Graham and José Limon dance companies, Peter London is now a dance professor at Miami-Dade College / New World School of the Arts and the Founder and Artistic Director of The Peter London Global Dance Company, which he created to establish a home-grown, world-class contemporary dance organization that promotes South Florida’s vibrant arts heritage. Mr. London’s vision was given an invaluable boost when his company received the 2011 Knight Arts Challenge grant award from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and support from The Miami Foundation. “I cannot begin to express how grateful I am to the Arsht Center staff for inviting and hosting my company,” said London. “The dancers are excited about this tremendous opportunity to perform in front of a larger audience in the heart of Miami at one of the most prestigious performing arts centers in the world. The hard work and steadfastness of the PLGDC dancers take us to new heights and we all feel blessed to showcase our talent to new audiences each time,” he continued.

Miami Marlins outfielder Logan Morrison has officially launched his own philanthropic campaign entitled “Project LoMo.” In partnership with the American Lung Association (ALA), “Project LoMo” encourages youth to create their own charitable program or event to help their community become a better place and/or support a cause that is important to them. Inspired by the philanthropic work Morrison has done with the ALA over the past several years, the Marlins outfielder is using this campaign as a call-to-action for children to make a positive impact and difference in their communities.

“After my father lost his battle with lung cancer, I felt like it was my responsibility to do everything I could to raise awareness for the disease,” said Morrison. “With this campaign, I want kids to understand that they, too, can make a difference. I want to empower them to start thinking outside-of-the-box and realize that they can spark social change. Young fans who carry out a project will also generate contributions for the American Lung Association. It’s a great campaign and I’m excited to review all the submissions.”

Morrison will officially launch the campaign on Wednesday, May 1 at Miami Senior High School, where he and his mother will reveal the contest details to students at 2:45 PM ET.

Individuals or teams have until August 1, 2013 to complete their initiative and communicate (via video, e-mail, or letter) to Morrison what they accomplished and learned. Each authentic submission will receive an autographed photo, an officially-licensed t-shirt jersey, and will also result in a $100 donation to the American Lung Association on behalf of the LoMo Lung Fund.

Additionally, “Project LoMo” will recognize five individuals or teams who submit particularly compelling projects aligned with the goals of the campaign. Each leader and a guest from the five winning projects will receive a trip to Miami, all-access to a 2013 Marlins home game, the opportunity to throw out the ceremonial first pitch, a meet-and-greet with Morrison and some of his Marlins teammates, and participation in a group video with Morrison to promote the ALA. Winning project individuals/teams will also receive a $1,000 cash prize.

The “Project LoMo” campaign is Morrison’s second major initiative aimed at promoting awareness and raising money for lung cancer research. “LoMo Camp for a Cure,” Morrison’s annual fundraising baseball clinic, takes place in Delray Beach, FL every January. To date, Morrison has raised over $200,000 for the ALA. For more information on “Project LoMo” please visit http://projectlomo.mlblogs.com/.

“New Beginnings” by Wendy White, a Play by the Children, for the Children premieres at ArtServe on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 8:00 p.m.

New Light Theatre is proud to present “New Beginnings”, an original play written and developed by the children residing at the Shepherds Way/HOPE South Florida homeless shelter. The children will showcase their acting and singing talents, as they remind the audience that art transcends any circumstance.

“New Beginnings” will be performed by the children and will be accompanied by the New Light Players – Jessica Pusceddu, Gema Calero and Gabriel Villasmil. Original art by the children will be on exhibit and a film produced by Anais Dominguez portraying the making of “New Beginnings” will be featured.

Wendy White, President of the New Light Foundation, Inc, directs and produces this labor of love as a result of a dream to help children learn to express themselves via the medium of playwrighting. Wendy has been working year-round at the shelter in the children’s after school program, “ACES” (After-school – Art – Academics- Collaborations for Educational Success), and will ultimately present a documentary which shares the children’s hopes and dreams through their eyes.

“I am deeply honored to help the children who participate in the ACES program and reside at the homeless shelter how to express and share their stories – the program’s goal is to give the children hope by being heard and encouraged through their circumstances – what results is a creative way to have fun and joy through the arts,” states Wendy, also a Playwright and Artist.

Donations are accepted for the children and their families residing at Shepherd’s Way/HOPE South Florida. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased online at: www.newlightgallery.org or over the phone at: 954.829.0638.

“If you reach for the stars, all you get are the stars. But we’ve found a whole new spin. If you reach for the heavens, you get the stars thrown in.” —Mary Poppins

“HOPE South Florida is a partnership, a lead organization in a network of partner churches and organizations working together to provide a holistic Christian response to homelessness in our community. The Shepherd’s Way/HOPE South Florida provides shelter and life skill classes to homeless and hurting families throughout Broward County crossing denominational lines, Protestants and Catholics alike came together, united to serve individuals and families living on the streets.” For more information visit:https://www.hopesouthflorida.org/

The playwright and director, Wendy White has written over 120 one-act plays and was a resident playwright, curator and director at the Kraine Theater in the East Village of New York City from 1984 to 1992, and at the Expanded Arts Theater Company from 1994 to 2001, in the Lower East Side of New York City. Her off-Broadway productions are the base for her new venue at the New Light Theatre. She recently produced The Jewish Nun to sold-out audiences in Off-Broadway’s 59e59 Theatre and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland.

In 2009, the New Light Foundation, Inc. represented the United States as Art Ambassadors by the 1-2-3 Kinderlachen e.V. foundation of Rottenburg, Germany by hosting the international “Global Gallery” project (www.123kinderlachen.org). During the course of this important project, the “world’s biggest canvas” emerged; painted by children – transcending all borders and conflicts.

The New Light Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit public foundation, has won numerous awards around the globe, has performed everywhere from Amsterdam to Paris; from Miami to Los Angeles to New York City; and has tackled subjects relating to women, love, politics, and Shakespeare. Discover and trust your natural intuitive gifts and inner guidance for more satisfaction and joy. That’s the topic of a dynamic, interactive talk being presented by international lecturers Estelle Small and Patrick Kilhenny of the non-profit, educational organization, IPM (Inner Peace Movement) International.
Using this sixth sense comes in handy, from situations that require major decisions or simply knowing when to pop a dish out of the oven. Everyone is psychic and being sharply attuned to it helps life flow more smoothly. People gain trust, self-confidence and inner security when they start tapping into their psychic part. The lecture will also dip into an understanding about using inner guidance, or guardian angels, that help people with their unique missions in life.
This is an interactive lecture. Participants can even try a technique on using their intuition, and most are able to do it on the first try. Estelle Small and Patrick Kilhenny have been presenting on this topic for many years in North America and Europe. Their quest for understanding their sixth sense comes out of their own experiences.

Barezzito South Beach will open its entrance in April 26, 2013 as an entertaining blend of sushi, bar and music elements. The restaurant’s fuse of Japanese cuisine, Latin touch and tropical influences paired with fresh ingredients and mixology, sparks an influential punch on the palate. Architecturally enhanced walls and ceilings, creative furniture design with pops of color and sleek flooring at Barezzito South Beach will turn into a party every night. Barezzito was originally conceptualized in Leon, Mexico in 2003 and has since become a staple in being recognized as refined, comfortable, versatile, innovative, contemporary, unique and delicious. End of March, the Miami Beach location will be the 13th Barezzito establishment, first in the United States, setting a new standard in dining and partying never before seen or felt in the United States.

Positioned in the new Boulan Shops at Collins Park, on the legendary Collins Avenue in South Beach Miami, FL across from the Setai Hotel & Residences. The doors will always be open for both locals and visitors alike in this unrestrained 4,200 sq. ft. of space. Sosa has ten years of service industry experience and anticipates opening future Barezzitos’ in South Florida and nationally with other concepts.

“Barezzito will be so different than what is going on here in South Beach. There are very little customer value positioned restaurants or places with amazing entertainment, along with enjoyable food too. Placing our focus on sushi and tapas, along with having live music and DJs every day of the week, with a well-priced menu, there will always be something happening where you know you can enjoy all aspects, all together. Happy hours, live entertainment and nightly parties will be our focus as there is also an advantage to providing this in our market and niche area.”

Barezzito South Beach will integrate sushi to sashimi, bottles to cocktails, DJ to live music and tapas and more, Barezzito South Beach is projected to be a distinguished entertainment based restaurant venue open late for a salubrious taste.

DAVID ROHN

David Rohn grew up in the suburbs of New York, the city in which he lived during most of the ’70’s and ’80’s. He studied Architecture, Art and Urbanism at NYU, the Ecole des Beaux Arts, and Pratt Institute, he moved to Paris again in 1989 , and later settled in Miami in 1992 where he began to exhibit paintings, videos, installations, and performances. Currently associated with Carol Jazzar Contemporary Art, Miami, his work has reached museums and collections both public and private.
In 2008, he formed:”Homo-Sapiens (Art for Evolution) with collaborator Danilo de la Torre for the creation and production of a variety of performance, Video, and Photographic projects, typically with themes related to social issues.
David Rohn also contributes writing on art for Artlurker and Whitehot Miami.

DANILO DE LA TORRE / ADORA

Born in Havana Cuba .
Trained in classical ballet . Worked in musical theater and cabaret from age of seventeen.
Went to Paris France in 1985 to join Le Ballet Theatre de la Seine, where he continued to work in contemporary and modern dance.
Visit Miami Beach in 1986 (later to be know as South Beach) Relocated there, soon to become Adora, an icon whose outrageous bouffant wigs, extraordinary make up and captivating stage presence made him/her the undisputed “Queen of South Beach”, a title that survives even in that somewhat changed Scene.
Adora’s repertoire of lip-sycned interpretations include a variety of music from Yma Sumac to Opera, Edith Piaf to La Lupe.
In 2008, de la Torre formed ‘Homo-Sapiens (Art for evolution) with long-time collaborator David Rohn; their first project Silencio, involved an unspoken performance Piece about a Guard and Muslim inmate of a Gitmo style Detention Camp who fall in love. They have since produced a number of performance and video and photographic works that have been produced and exhibited in Germany, Israel and the USA.

ALEXIS TRIGOURA

Born in 1971 and raised in Regla, Cuba, Alexis Trigoura experienced the quintessential Cuban childhood. His family’s name was well-known throughout Cuba due to their popular and successful butcher shop. In 1980, however, due to the progressively intense demands of Castro’s regime, Alexis and his family were compelled to leave their beautiful homeland. Alexis, just ten at the time, joined his father, mother and two brothers on the 90-mile pilgrimage to U.S. shores via the Mariel Boat Lift.
Alexis learned of his love of painting early in life, at the age of three. The media he enjoyed most was watercolor but he later discovered charcoal, oil, acrylic and pastels. He didn’t stop there. Sculpture inspired him as well and, with his resourceful imagination, Alexis created sculptures with whatever materials he could find.
It wasn’t until his adult years – after being a flight attendant and traveling around the world – that Alexis realized no other place captured the beauty and sincerity of Cuba. An intense desire to return home gave him the courage to visit and photograph the island he left behind 24 years earlier. Alexis’ photographs capture memories of his colorful childhood and the love of an island he once called home.

The Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery has acquired several large scale Elman portraits. Most recently, it acquired Elman’s portraits of Pulitzer Prize recipient Jhumpa Lahiri and U.S. Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky. These acquisitions join Elman’s portraits of Pulitzer Prize recipients Alan Dugan and Stanley Kunitz in the museum’s permanent collection. Elman’s 1991 portrait of poet Stanley Kunitz standing in his beloved garden following its devastation by Hurricane Bob is included in a current exhibition at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery titled Poetic Likeness: Modern American Poets. That exhibition continues until April 28, 2013.

Elman has made over 200 paintings in this series of notable talents such as Norman Mailer, Robert Motherwell, Douglas Huebler, Justin Kaplan, Joel Meyerowitz, Annie Dillard, Mark Strand, Sebastian Junger, Alec Wilkinson, E.J. Kahn, Jr., Varujan Boghosian, Al Jaffee, Lee Falk, Elise Asher, Anne Bernays, and Ruth Reichl. The dimensions of most works are either 60 x 43 inches or 40 x 30 inches.

Elman has maintained a studio on the tip of Cape Cod in the Provincetown Art Colony since 1970. In 1989, after a half-lifetime of making only abstract art, he started portraying the Provincetown Art community at leisure – what people do when they are not working – the fabric of life that draws people back every year. Now a full-time Miami Beach resident, Elman has turned his focus to portraying the people and culture of Miami.

The Hangar Gallery, Wynwood will host local photographer, Anthony Jordon, Jr.‘s exhibition “Living & Loving 2: A Continued Celebration of Life”. This exhibit is a follow up tribute to Anthony’s solo show “Living & Loving: Celebrating our Comfort”, which raised funds for the 2010 Miami AIDSWalk.

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the photos will be donated to Care Resources to fund their efforts in continuing their existing programs in support of HIV/AIDS outreach in South Florida.

Additionally, The Hangar Gallery has also offered to donate 10% of any purchases made on the evening of the exhibition.

As a self taught photographer, Anthony Jordon’s vision is to continually see what can be shot and shown through his lens for everyone’s enjoyment, not just his own.

He’s been shooting for several years throughout Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties.

Chris and Bob are talented, award-winning artists in their own right and will incorporate drawing/painting demonstrations into their presentation.

In Chris’s latest EVERYONE CAN LEARN TO RIDE A BICYCLE: Learning to ride a bike is one of the most important milestones of childhood, and no one captures the emotional ups and downs of the experience better than Chris Raschka, who won the 2012 Caldecott Medal for A Ball for Daisy. Using very few words and lots of expressive pictures, here is a picture book that not only shows kids how to learn to ride, but captures what it feels like to fall . . . get up . . . fall again . . . and finally “by luck, grace, and determination” ride a bicycle!

Bob Staake’s latest BLUEBIRD: In this emotional picture book, readers will be captivated as they follow the journey of a bluebird as he develops a friendship with a young boy and ultimately risks his life to save the boy from harm. Bob Staake has been working on this book for 10 years, and truly believes he was born to write this story.

This event is brought to us by Random House Unplugs: Random House is committed to helping schools, libraries and bookstores nationwide UNPLUG and Read during Screen Free Week to raise awareness about the importance of balancing screen time against other developmentally important tasks, like reading.

Join us as we welcome Ella Cisneros, a Venezuelan –born major art collector, who runs the Cisneros Fontanels Foundation in Miami.

If anything defines the adventure of twentieth-century art it is its liberation from the pursuit of beauty as an end in itself. It was a moment of change in which art and artists arose as researchers and producers of knowl¬edge, reflection and experience. In this convulsive panorama that shook the very foundations of art, as we can see in Pulses of Abstraction in Latin America, we find some of the most inspiring experiences and ex¬plorations ever to occur in the history of art.

There will be a conversation between Ella Cisneros and Peter Boswell, Museum of Art | Fort Lauderdale Curator at Large.

More then 200 guests gathered recently at Broken Shaker to celebrate two iconic whiskeys and two great American writers at the Twain vs. Orwell Mixology Competition presented by Glenmorangie and Ardbeg. Eight local mixologists and members of the United States Bartenders Guild competed in a literary inspired competition to see who could create the freshest new Twain or Orwell inspired cocktail using Ardbeg or Glenmorangie single malt whiskey.

The trial was performed “Iron Chef’ style before four judges: David Blackmore, global brand ambassador for Glenmorangie/Arbeg, Trisha Cancilla, regional marketing manager for Glenmorangie/Ardbeg; Galena Mosevich, cocktail writer for Miami.com and The Miami Herald, and Mickey Heads, distillery manager for Ardbeg who came in all the way from Scotland to be a part of the event.

At 7:30pm, live bagpipes sounded to present the competition finalists Trevor Alberts of Gramp’s in Wynwood and Michael Parish of Broken Shaker, who each won a private edition bottle of Ardbeg or Glenmorangie. But to name the ultimate cocktail and mixologist, the contestants then entered a sudden death round where they each had to create a shot using Ardbeg or Glenmorangie. Michael Parish was crowned the first place winner earning a brand new iPad mini for his inventive and delicious concoction.

Guest enjoyed a variety of single malt whiskey samples throughout the evening including Ardbeg’s private edition Galileo, which was just named theWorld’s Best Single Malt Whiskey at the 2013 World Whiskey Awards in London. Ardbeg’s 10 Year Old, Uigeadail and Corryvreckan were also served along with Glenmorangie’s The Original Lasanta, Quinta Ruban and Nectar d’Or.

Artist Jon Grey entertained the crowd with the live creation of an original Twain vs. Ardbeg painting. Other fun highlights included Twain and Orwell Madlibs, an interactive photo area where guests could dress up as characters from Twain and Orwell books, butler passed Scottish bites, and of course,Broken Shaker’s famous hand crafted punch bowls.

What’s the connection between the whiskey’s and these writers? Glenmorangie’s Ealanta is aged exclusively in wooden casks sourced from the Mark Twain Nation Forest in the Missouri Ozark Mountains. While George Orwell wrote his famous book 1984 while living on the Isle of Jura in Scotland. The area is next to Islay, the home of Ardbeg.

The fourth and final of the Miami International Piano Festival’s “Four Classical Sundays at Five” will feature pianist Kemal Gekic and violist Michael Klotz in a special chamber program at the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center in Aventura, FL at 5 P.M on Sunday, April 21st.

The Miami International Piano Festival’s Four Classical Sundays at Five are intimate, classical, salon-style recitals presented at the beautiful Aventura Arts & Cultural Center. They feature some of the most renowned artists from around the globe and revitalize the tradition of the salon concerts of the 19th century. Each artist is invited to speak with the audience and reveal their insights and thoughts about the repertoire, the composers and their own personal interpretations. This creates a level of intimacy between performer and spectator that is not typical at more conventional recitals. A post-recital meet-the-artist reception allows audience and performers to get to know one another even further.

Described by the Miami New Times as “the tastiest bitter-sweet candy for fans of wall-flower angst electropop,” Minimal brings an eclectic and versatile mix of indie and alternative rock with electronic flirtations embodied in drum machines, sequencers and samplers. Identified as “Latin-rock hometown heroes” by Fabrikalink.com, Minimal combines these eclectic elements to create an energetic and vigorous live performance, which has enabled them to perform along Grammy winners and internationally known artists such as Aterciopelados, Volumen Cero, Yerbabuena, and Libido.

In 2006, Minimal released their first LP titled Fotos, Cartas Y un Puñal, under the record label Fabrika Music. That same year, the band was voted “best new band” by web visitors of Batanga.com, a source for Latin music and entertainment and a leading media and content company reaching U.S. Hispanics. Minimal also traveled to New York in 2006 to participate in the Latin Alternative Music Conference (LAMC) where it presented its album in a series of concerts. While the first single, El Cubo aired on alternative radio stations across the U.S., the video for the single – directed by Vlo Erminy – received airplay on MTV3 as well as other alternative video television shows around the country.

HIIIII!!!! WE ARE DOING IT AGGGAIIINN!!! APRIL 20TH!!!

For those of you that don’t know Floatopia is a social event that has taken place in Santa Barbara, Cali since 2004. The title “Floatopia” describes the main activity the event is known for—floating on rafts and other home-made or store bought floating devices along the coast and partying on the beach. Since 2004, Floatopias have sprung up all over the states.

We brought Floatopia to Miami for the first time last September and on April 20th we are bringing this floating party to Miami again!!!

No bouncers, no guest lists, no cover charge, no promoters, just good ol’ fashioned fun!

Bring your float, raft, inner-tube, rubber tire or anything that floats and join us!

Note: Your “beverages” must be in discreet containers such as plastic bottles. Remember, NO glass bottles are allowed on the beach!

Invite your friends & like our FB page, Floatopia Miami, for more info.

Just like last time, please, please, please let’s not give anyone any reason to stop our fun! Get crazy…within legal limits. Remember we are floatOPIA, as the Miami New times pointed out, a type of utopia, an ideal community…of party people haha ;) …No drama, please. We are all one big, friendly, floating party family.

Please PICK UP AFTER YOURSELF, let’s be kind to this beautiful beach. Leave nothing but your float print. Some of us will be staying after the event to clean up the beach, please do your part.

We are very, very excited to be bringing Floatopia back to Miami again! THANK YOU ALL FOR BELIEVING IN FLOATOPIA MIAMI!

Peace, Love, Rock n’ Float!!!!

he Brian Lynch Afro-Caribbean Jazz Artist Ensemble, conducted by Grammy Award winning trumpeter and Frost School of Music professor Brian Lynch, performs original compositions and new arrangements of modern jazz repertory in the exciting and propulsive idiom known as Latin Jazz. Professor Lynch directs his hand picked ensemble of talented young musicians and performs with them as his own group.

Among his many achievements, Brian Lynch has long been known as a great conductor of the jazz jam session. As a member of the house band at the legendary Star Cafe sessions in the New York City of the early 1980s, with Junior Cook and Harold White, and as bandleader of the late night jams at the NY Blue Note in the 1990s, Lynch absorbed the philosophy and practice of the session at its highest level. Now he brings his knowledge and love of the form to Miami and PAX.

Practitioners of all genres from traditional to contemporary, from straight ahead to Afro-Cuban and world music, will be encouraged to participate and cross pollinate, young students and established artists alike. Standards will be kept high and protocol will be firmly in place to encourage the best musical result for players and listeners in the unique and informal atmosphere of PAX!

La Santa Cecilia was recently nominated for a 2011 Latin Grammy for their hit song “La Negra” and is spreading this joy and excitement doing west coast tour support for L.A super house Ozomatli to close out the year!!!

“The music of the Los Angeles band La Santa Cecilia places the group in the late-20th-century movement of Latino musicians in California who search out a wider variety of traditions than their musical ancestors did to create a new pan-Latino aesthetic.” NPR

La Santa Cecilia exemplifies the modern-day creative hybrid. In an era and city in which Latin culture has given birth to many musical fusions, The Los Angeles based six-member band creatively combines up-tempo South American rhythms like Cumbia and Bossa Nova with the nostalgic Bolero and passionate Tango, blending in Afro-Cuban percussion, Rock with Jazzy tunes to bring about a mix that defies any particular label or musical genre. The band’s sound is accentuated by singer Marisoul’s haunting voice, which delivers its message of love, loss and heartbreak in a strong, sensual and powerful performance that leaves crowds mesmerized and women justified in La Santa’s colorful and fiesta-like live shows.

“The newly formed instrumental group, Sookie, Sookie, is named after the classic cut from the Grant Green album “Alive!” This soulful live record features Green, a guitarist much better known for his straight ahead jazz style, leading a group that seamlessly blends jazz and funk into one cohesive style. Sookie Sookie, features a group of young musicians with an admiration and respect for this style who are working to maintain and advance the spirit of the music. Influenced by much more than the sound of Grant’s group on “Alive!” Sookie, Sookie is also heavily influenced by John Scofield, Dr. Lonnie Smith, and Charlie Hunter and contains elements of Hip-Hop, Rock, and Soul. This collection of influences that spans across the boundries of traditional genres has created a new sound that is as unique as it is infectious.

Outside of little bits of information picked from the internet, not much is known about Twisted Insane other than the fact that he has one of the hardest, fastest flows in the history of hip-hop. Twisted Insane started out his career homeless selling cd’s just to get money for food and a room. Eventually, Twisted Insane’s buzz grew into something out of control. Fans became more than fans, they became something of a cult. Not “just another rapper” Twisted Insane is the future and apparently those who set the standards agree. Twisted Insane’s flow and rhymes are so brutal and high-speed in addition to often being one of the fans two most common choices for fastest rapper on the planet, that Tech N9ne (the other common choice among fans for the title of ‘the fastest’), the #1 independent artist in the world recently tapped Twisted Insane for an appearance on Tech N9ne’s latest album, the #4 Billboard charting “All 6’s And 7’s” on the the song “Worldwide Choppers”. The worldwide recognition has only intensified the heat surrounding Twisted Insane and with the release of his new video, “Kick Rocks” from his forthcoming album, “The Root Of All Evil”, Twisted Insane is set to blast off into the stratosphere.

On Friday, April 19th, we cordially invite you to a night of debauchery as we toast to CHARLLIE DROZE.

This annual celebration for the local scenester includes a touch of Red-Light District, a dash of absinthe, the smell of candles and leather, and a raucous European madness that we can only call…
” The Moulin Droze “

We invite you to indulge us by dawning your best burlesque-inspired garb and becoming a character in our cirque. Consider this the one night a year that you can choose who you are… where you can be ANYONE you want to be: A courtesan dripping in pearls and lace, a french aristocrat in his best vintage tux, a can-can girl with only tassels and a boa she stole from a local boutique, a fortune-teller with deceptive intentions… even a penniless poet living from one glass of Pinot to the next with only the urge to write and drink.

All is allowed at The Moulin Droze.

Sensual soundtrack for our soiree will be provided by the incomparable DJ PRIDE. And the Unity Coalition will be serving unlimited complimentary cocktails with a donation to their organization between 10pm and 11pm. (#PartyWithAPurpose)

So please join us for a night of flirting with complete strangers, a night of surrendering to madness, a night of champagne and shows… a night… a night of EXCESS.

MANO Fine Art Project Space invites you the Opening Reception for their newest exhibition “Part of A Conversation” on Saturday, April 20th during the Bird Road Art walk.

Abdiel Acosta, Luis Berros, Silvina Castillo, Diana Contreas, Patricia Schnall-Gutierrez, Vicente Fabre, Mila Hajjar, Richard Kurtz, Elena Lasala, MANO, Aurora Molina and Augusto Sanchez

The exhibition entitled “Part of A Conversation” is an extraordinary visual interplay of art and language.featuring contemporary works by twelve Miami-based artists. The works are as individual as the artists themselves with the common denominator being the combination of text and imagery to create provocative insightful and playful visual dialogues with the viewer. Passages of text, letter forms and remarkable gestural strokes that suggest writing yet remain illegible engage the viewer to “read” the artworks. While other works focus on repetitive patterns, such as linear rows and geometric shapes. Mostly, however, “reading” the artwork encourages viewers to be part of a conversation.

MANO Fine Art Project Space is the working studio of Miami-based artist MANO and an exhibition and project space for art related events. MANO Fine Art participates in the Bird Road Art Walk, held on the third Saturday of each month. For more information contact 305.467.6819 or visit http://www.manofineart.com/

[Description]

The objective of ‘for artists……BY ARTISTS’ (www.facebook.com/forartistBYARTISTS) is to create a social colony for artists from all disciplines of the arts. We present a unique opportunity for painters, photographers, designers, sculptors and videographers to exhibit their works in a Large Digital Format environment. Selected artists gain access to utilize the technology of Haven and present their art in a dynamic presentation.

Installation #66 will feature mixed media artist Cynthia Fleischmann, painter/photographer, and her exhibit “Silver.”

ABOUT THE ARTIST www.bodypaintography.com

Cynthia Fleischmann grew up in Küsnacht, Switzerland until she was 10, spending most of her time outdoors observing, playing sports, running around naked and drawing. Her appreciation for photography developed from her father’s love for pioneering photographers such as Ansel Adams, Edward Weston and Paul Strand that lined his gallery walls called Galerie Zur Stockeregg. Moving to Dover, Massachusetts with her mother and three older sisters imposed a new culture on her in which English became her prominent language and school activities and sports her focus and drive. She was intimately involved in creating stage sets for the school musicals and was nominated as most artistic in high school. Cynthia always had a passion for experimenting, and in 2009 she combined her painting and photography into one form she calls ‘bodypaintography.’ Although photography is her focus at the University of Miami, she does not feel limited by any form of expression and continues to experiment with painting, photography, lithography and drawing.

DAN VIDAL www.dan-vidal.com

Since 1999, the bulk of my photographic work has focused on the dance music culture of the major cities of the United States, including the Miami metropolitan area, New York, and Las Vegas. In this decade of time, the “nightlife photographer” has risen from being a marginal player in the scene to an integral, almost ubiquitous documentarian.

With an eye towards getting away from that ubiquity, I utilize all the elements within the events and locations I’ve had the privilege of shooting at. Not content to use just a flash perched on top of my camera, I’ll utilize existing lights, reflections, fog, smoke, and look for the mysterious “right look” as it applies to what I do, in order to get the image.

JenniferArt started as a creative idea which then grew into something that can be seen on many different platforms. It began with artist Jennifer Artidiello from Miami, FL with the gift of drawing by simply looking at an image and replicating it onto a larger scale in perfect detail and proportion at an early age. This was a hobby for years with no formal teaching. After high school, she attended the Art Institute of Los Angeles – CA and majored in Media Arts & Animation, then transferred to Miami International University of Art & Design. With the knowledge and projects she was heavily involved with she was able to combine all aspects of study and form her unique style.

JenniferArt’s purpose is to explore all boundaries that no one has ever breached in the art world before. To blend traditional art medium with new modern art mediums to create a one of a kind masterpiece that has no replica or equal. From Photography to painting, JenniferArt can cover each aspect of what makes Art. Through graphic design to visual painting, there is nothing that she won’t use to express the colorful images projecting in her mind. This has progressed into the Photography passion, where all those elements that have been taught on paper and digitally can come together on film.JenniferArt’s goal is to evoke awareness that women are powerful sensuous creatures that have the capacity create and destroy all that you love.

While in Los Angeles, she was part of Red Giant Productions that worked on various projects and studios such as Image comics, rhythm & Hues, and Sony to name a few. In recent years she has worked with several clients producing graphic design logo work, web site design, painting, and photography. Photography has really been the passion and drive that moves JenniferArt, with many projects that are still in the works it is her desire and goal to bring her view of what the embodiment of art is to light.
ADAM C. SCHRIMMER www.adamschrimmer.com

Adam C Schrimmer is a color blind artist, whose preferred medium is charcoal. He loves working with his hands and feeling every part of what he is creating. The simple versatility in the tool allows him to reach the degree of detail that he chooses. He enjoys the closeness that he feels with it; there is a natural bond that is unavoidable. It bears a nostalgic resemblance to finger painting as a child, there is a direct connection between his mind, body, and heart that is still exhilarating (even as an adult). He is recognized for his work in charcoal on large-scale mixed surfaces including wood panels and canvas.

During a solo exhibit where he worked ‘live,’ Adam’s work was classified as “Emotional Expressionism.” His drawings never take more than a day, they are started and finished in one sitting. No matter the size or subject matter. When he gets inspired to work it is like a surge of energy… a pulse of power; he becomes like an out of control freight train driven by the music in his ears and the blood pumping in his veins. Adam is a very passionate person and believes strongly that a feeling, emotion or state of mind cannot be duplicated. This moment, right now, as you read this short bio will be gone in a second and you will never get it back. His drawings are moments in time that he cannot create again, it would never be the same, because the emotional and physical state-of-being that urged him to make that specific piece of art at that specific time, on that specific day are now gone.
