Get your taste buds ready! With more vendors and more flavor than before, the 2nd Annual Plant-Based Festival will be held at Gulfstream Park Village, South Florida’s premier entertainment destination, on Sunday, Feb. 9 from 11:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. The event will showcase the latest in food, drink and plant-based goods coming to The Village Center. The festival, located in the Gulfstream Park Village shopping area, will feature a main stage for presenters, music, giveaways from merchants, 60+ plant-based vendors, and contests for the kids. This is a free and family-friendly event.

Aventura Hospital’s Nutrition and Diabetes Educator Michelle Larea will be introducing the event and discussing why plant-based diets and lifestyles are positive for human health and the Earth.

Attendees should come ready for fun and ready to eat by bringing their own reusable water bottle, cup or cutlery to cut down on waste. Alternatives will be available, but every little bit helps! Inspired by the City’s Plastic Straw Ban, Gulfstream Park Village will be giving away multi-color stainless-steel reusable straws to the first 500 attendees.

Spark a curiosity for physical sciences with fun hands-on learning!

During each homeschool session at Frost Science, students explore a science topic through hands-on lessons designed to ignite their curiosity and an interest in STEM. Our informal science education environment encourages students to ask questions, gain experience using scientific tools and make connections, both intellectual and social, through engaging experiments and activities.

Each homeschool program is four weeks in duration with lessons occurring on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the museum’s Knight Learning Center. Session 3: Physics Fun

With interesting lessons on gravity, magnetism, forces and energy, your child will attract a love for science! Students will begin by learning about mechanical fundamentals in simple machines and then put their investigative skills to the test while studying laws of motion and electricity. They will then venture off into the application of physics, cosmology and astronomy. You’ll have a physicist before class is over!

Littlest learners can dive right into a sensory adventure at Frost Science, surrounded by the soothing and roaring sounds of ocean waves during We Wednesdays in January. Children will apply their observation skills and engage all of their senses to categorize rocks and shells, while feeling the gritty texture of sand from a beach. These hands-on activities will help encourage development of your child’s motor skills and imagination while utilizing the many wonderful and diverse materials that nature has to offer!

During We Wednesdays, children (ages four and younger) and their caregivers are encouraged to explore the world around them while also engaging in a fun, safe and educational environment.

Spark a curiosity for physical sciences with fun hands-on learning!

During each homeschool session at Frost Science, students explore a science topic through hands-on lessons designed to ignite their curiosity and an interest in STEM. Our informal science education environment encourages students to ask questions, gain experience using scientific tools and make connections, both intellectual and social, through engaging experiments and activities.

Each homeschool program is four weeks in duration with lessons occurring on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the museum’s Knight Learning Center. All sessions are facilitated by science educators and include all materials and supplies related to the lesson. For more information, please visit frostscience.org/homeschool.

Session 3: Physics Fun

With interesting lessons on gravity, magnetism, forces and energy, your child will attract a love for science! Students will begin by learning about mechanical fundamentals in simple machines and then put their investigative skills to the test while studying laws of motion and electricity. They will then venture off into the application of physics, cosmology and astronomy. You’ll have a physicist before class is over!

Littlest learners can dive right into a sensory adventure at Frost Science, surrounded by the soothing and roaring sounds of ocean waves during We Wednesdays in January. Children will apply their observation skills and engage all of their senses to categorize rocks and shells, while feeling the gritty texture of sand from a beach. These hands-on activities will help encourage development of your child’s motor skills and imagination while utilizing the many wonderful and diverse materials that nature has to offer!

During We Wednesdays, children (ages four and younger) and their caregivers are encouraged to explore the world around them while also engaging in a fun, safe and educational environment.

Time to get the popcorn popping! The new year is bringing a new family-friendly event series to Gulfstream Park Village, South Florida’s premier entertainment destination. Every Friday of the month, families are invited to join Gulfstream Park Village at Family Fun Fridays – Movies in the Park to watch a movie. Attendees will be offered free popcorn, ice cream specials from Häagen-Dazs, and pizza and soda specials from La Pizzeria prior to and during each show. Returning for its second season in the New Year, Trump International Beach Resort Miami’s ‘ArtSea’ series will bring a fresh new lineup of free, interactive art, music and cultural offerings to Sunny Isles Beach. Along with its new partner, the Arts & Business Council of Miami, the iconic South Florida resort welcomes guests, visitors and the public to mix and mingle with their toes in the sand during select Saturdays in 2020.

Each event will feature unique art, music and cultural experiences, ranging from painting and photography to sculptures and hands-on art activations. Moving to its new venue at Gili’s Beach Club, the series’ beachside setting will be ideal for the whole family, offering something for the young and the young at heart. All ages will enjoy one-of-a-kind interactive art while taking in picture-perfect sunsets, accompanied by warm ocean breezes and underscored by beats from local favorite DJ Nuny Love. Beach games will keep the young ones entertained, while adults can have their own fun, cozying up by the fire pit in relaxed beachside lounge furniture and sipping on specialty cocktails in quintessentially winter-in-South Florida-style.

Attendees are invited to ‘share the love’ at this fun happy hour with an artsy twist. The featured artist will paint a heart-themed piece, and participants will be able to create their own heart masterpieces based on the artist’s work. A selfie station with a five-foot inflatable heart and heart props will provide Instagram-ready photos. An exhibit featuring the artist’s work will also be on display.

Choreographer and AIRIE Fellow 2018 Dale Andree will activate the shores of Long Pine Key with a new, never before performed interactive dance performance, focusing on tempo and the flow of movement that comes with congregating and separating. Audience members, musicians and dancers will interact during this call and response activation of the pinelands, followed by a Q&A in the newly renovated Long Pine Key Amphitheater.

Dancers include Rebecca Pelham, Katie Brennan, Barbie Freeman, Emily Ricca, and Sun Young Park. Live music by Roy Robinson.

Performance is free and open to the public. Visitors are welcome to drive directly to Long Pine Key, park entrance fees of $30 per individual vehicle apply, or RSVP for a trolley seat by donation (park entrance fee waived).

The sounds of sweet music will soon be flowing under balmy starlit skies at Bonnet House Museum & Gardens during its Concerts Under the Stars, presented by The Haller Foundation. Taking place on Thursdays, Jan. 23, Feb. 13, March 12 and March 26, 2020 from 6:30–8 p.m., the concerts will showcase some of South Florida’s finest talent.

The magical evenings’ activities happen in and around the house, with the concert performance on the tent-covered veranda beneath the moon and stars, rain or shine (seating is provided.) A wonderful way to start off the evening, guests will enjoy delicious complimentary wine and cheese from 6:30–7 p.m. The parking lot opens at 6 p.m.; doors open at 6:30 p.m. Concerts take place from 7–8 p.m.

Following is the concert schedule:
• Jan. 23: Michael Masci Quartet with Danny Bacher, featuring relaxing jazz music.
• Feb. 13: University of Miami Frost Opera Theater, whose performances reflect the broad range of programming in the 21st century, from Baroque opera to the most progressive works of the current time.
• March 12: Lynn University String Quartet, playing a broad and diverse range of repertoire that mixes contemporary music with the traditional.
• March 26: SOSOS, an acoustic band that bases its music around root instruments such as upright bass, pump organ, banjo, mandolin, djembe, acoustic guitars, drums, and melodica.

The concert series is happening during Bonnet House Museum & Gardens’ 100th anniversary year. One of the oldest homes in South Florida and a popular tourist destination for locals and worldwide visitors alike, the fanciful 35-acre Bonnet House Museum & Gardens is celebrating its 100th anniversary through 2020.

A part of Florida’s unique history, the home was built in 1920 as the winter retreat of the Birch/Bartlett family, and is a delightful blend of art, architecture, history and ecology. The 35-acre subtropical estate and historic house museum preserves the natural setting of South Florida, situated on what is one of the last examples of a native barrier island habitat in the region.

On Saturday, March 21, 2020, Feeding South Florida®, the leading domestic hunger-relief organization in South Florida, will host its 10th Annual Outrun Hunger 5K presented by JM Family Enterprises. The event, which will raise funds to help end hunger in South Florida and raise awareness for the issue of food insecurity, will take place along the scenic Hollywood Beach Broadwalk. Currently in South Florida, there are 706,430 food insecure individuals, and one in five children go to bed hungry.

Registration begins at 6:45 a.m. The 5K will begin at 7:30 a.m. After the race, an award ceremony and a raffle will take place. Music will be provided by Mike Sipe Entertainment throughout the morning.

Participants can join the event as an individual or a team. Medals will be given for the top three places in each age category and overall best times for males and females. Those not participating in the race may also support the organization as a virtual runner by creating a personalized fundraising page. After another tremendous year, TeamFootWorks, producers of the highly-anticipated Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run presented by Turkish Airlines, announced registration for the 2020 5K Run/Walk is in now open. With more than 38,000 participants in 2019, the race series will once again take over South Florida with three runs beginning in Fort Lauderdale on April 2, continuing in West Palm Beach on April 15 and concluding in Miami on April 23. The United Way (Broward County, Palm Beach County, Miami-Dade County) continues to be the annual race series’ charity partner. The series will donate $1 per race participant respectively to each city’s chapter.

“We are excited to be entering the 36th year of what has been an amazing health and wellness journey for thousands of race participants. With registration now in full swing, team captains are rallying their workplace teams to engage in another year of fun and healthy competition. It’s so gratifying to see so many South Florida companies continue to embrace health and wellness as part of their workplace culture. The Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami (MOCA) is thrilled to welcome back Miami Big Sound Orchestra as part of the monthly “Jazz at MOCA” series on Friday, Dec. 27. Known as downtown Miami’s resident Latin Jazz big band since 2006, Miami Big Sound Orchestra combines 21st-century big band jazz with Afro-Cuban and Brazilian music, funk and soul. Their repertoire includes original compositions by Rafael “Cali” Valencia, legendary Miami bassist/composer; Chino Nunez, GRAMMY Award-winning producer; and Jaui Schneider, former pianist/composer of Ray Barretto; along with classics from legends such as the great Mario Bauzá.

The members of the Miami Big Sound Orchestra are all veteran Miami musicians who have performed and toured with top-name artists including Celia Cruz, Gloria Estefan, Issac Delgado, Jon Secada, Chayanne, Rey Ruiz, Tito Nieves, and K.C. and the Sunshine Band, among others.

The public is invited to enjoy the vibrant sounds of Miami Big Sound Orchestra, rain or shine. Guests may also walk through MOCA’s two exhibitions, Cecilia Vicuña’s “About to Happen” and Alice Rahon’s “Poetic Invocations.” Cecilia Vicuña’s “About to Happen” traces the Chilean artist’s career-long commitment to exploring discarded and displaced materials, peoples and landscapes in a time of global climate change. The late French-Mexican surrealist painter Alice Rahon’s “Poetic Invocations” aims to contribute to the scholarship and recognition of under-explored women artists, and to the intercultural influences on European artists in exile in the Americas, whose work was often deeply marked by indigenous and archaic cultures. On Sunday, December 15th Style Saves will host its annual ‘Holiday Giveback’ event at Mana Wynwood Convention Center. Over 1,000 underprivileged children will receive gifts from their holiday-wish list.
Style Saves has a full day of fun planned for families including bounce houses, arts and crafts, cookie decorating, balloon artists and even a slime station! Attendees will also get to enjoy Pepsi branded beverages, hot dogs, pizza and candy.
Volunteer groups from the Vous Church, Miansai, Groot Hospitality and more will be at the event in full force helping to hand out gifts and spread holiday joy. Sponsors such as Jakks Toys, Basic Fun, My Peekaboo Toy, Party Gift Solutions and Hype Makerz are all partners helping to create memorable moments for the children.
The entire community is encouraged to take part through donations and volunteering before or during the event.

Can’t repeat the past? Well, of course you can and in the grandest way! This year, the Biltmore Hotel is bringing back the Roaring Twenties with a Gatsby-inspired New Year’s Eve event that will be Miami’s greatest end of year affair. Ringing in The Roaring Twenties celebrations will give guests a contemporary take on the glamourous Jazz Age along with an elegant four-course dinner, over-the-top dessert buffet, and an incredible laser light show by Event Factor. The Rotary Club of Weston and The City of Weston will be hosting the 22nd Annual Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Run for Tomorrow on Sunday, Dec. 8 at Cypress Bay High School in Weston. The event includes a half marathon, 5K and 1-mile Family Health Walk/Mayor’s Challenge. Over the past 22 years, the Run has grown to over 1,500 runner participants and added an accompanying health fair and expo.

At the event, the Rotary Club of Weston, along with Freedland Harwin Valori, a consumer justice law firm, will be collecting new, unwrapped toys and supplies to fly to the Bahamas and bring to the Rotary Clubs in the Bahamas who are hosting a holiday party for all Hurricane Dorian evacuees now living in Nassau. They’ve crossed the ocean for Miami’s biggest art festival of the year. Eight of Holland’s greatest creative minds have joined forces to create a visual playground in their pop-up art gallery in the heart of Wynwood during Miami Art week 2019. Known for their public art projects and street art exhibitions with world’s most prolific artists at their gallery in Rotterdam and around the world, Sober Collective Art Gallery brings their pop-up exhibition to Miami.

During Miami Art Week from Dec 1-8, the exhibit will be open to guests from 10 a.m.-12 a.m.

From December 9-30, it will be open from 12 p.m.-10 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays and from 10 a.m. – 11 p.m. Wednesday-Sundays.

Our Grand Opening exhibition at Sober Collective Art Gallery will be on December 8, from 7 p.m. – 12 a.m.

Known as “The Dutch Master of Light,” Tim Boin curated this selection of 8 of the best Dutch street artists in cross-combination with his own solo exhibition ‘Geometry is Life’ at the W South Beach during Miami Art Week. His group of artists all excel in bold, abstract and unconventional large-scale work found internationally and celebrated globally.

About the Artists:
Tim Boin Art: Conscious elements are at the root of Tim’s message. Celebrated for his larger-than-life sculptures, he depicts the ecosystem’s sensitive state. Using 3D Mapping, Tim literally and figuratively sheds light on his geometric sculptures of endangered species in his most recent work.
digitaldoes: He focuses on collecting pieces from past walls and reshaping them into a new form to use as core elements in his new pieces. He perpetuates the past and makes new work traceable to a specific google coordinate of a bygone wall. From China to Mexico and Australia to New York, his work has been found all across the globe.
Saïd Kinos: His work expresses a fascination for the way people communicate with each other. It’s recognizable by his high-contrast use of distorted typography. His visual overkill is a metaphor for the amount of information we have to process on a daily basis.
TELMO MIEL: This creative duo evolved from creating individual pieces on one mural into developing one image, one composition together. They focus on playfulness in abstraction of reality; attempting to make the viewer see opposite perspectives and subjects with a different eye.
Joram Roukes: Using juxtapositions of imagery, he creates abstract narratives and figures that evoke introspection and contemplation. His work gained attention from several international galleries, and he actively paints large-scale murals across the globe, including Copenhagen, Paris, Berlin, San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles and London, to name a few.
Bier en Brood: Inspired by machines, nature and architecture, they possess a unique style, often interpreted as sinister and apocalyptic. Their preferred mediums include highly detailed pen drawings, spray-cans and paint for their large-scale work.
Mossy Giant: He has a slightly neurotic fascination with detailed line-work and stories within stories. Not made for the easily distracted, recurring themes in this work include nature, man, beast & machine.
Zevous: His company, Dutch Deco Finish, specializes in wall and furniture finishes for amusement parks and large festivals, which has led to over a decade of developing relationships with artists worldwide; and after these artists began approaching him to commission exclusive works of art, it has inspired him to create his own extensive portfolio.

Dutch DJ Damoulis is setting sound waves to this visual playground, mastering in Miami-favorite sounds like Afrobeats, AfroHouse, Latin and Dutch urban music and dancehall.

We attended the 31st Festival of Chefs at Jungle Island on Wednesday, November 13th from 6:30 – 10:30. This was, by far, one of the best organized events we have ever attended. It was easy to move around the floor and get to the food tastings. Plenty of delicious food to try. Lots of delightful attendees of all ages, from young professionals to experienced executives. If you are choosing your fundraisers to attend for 2020, we can highly recommend adding this one to your list.
