The ‘Spooking Savings’ promotion includes two Youth Fair General Admission Tickets, valid for admission any day of the 2016 Youth Fair for ages six through 64. Also included are two P*O*P Ride Cards valid for unlimited rides any day of the 2016 Youth Fair, including Saturday and Sunday. Offer is not valid during school field trips.

Additionally, the community is invited to submit their best Halloween costume for a chance to win four Souvenir Cups, four Admission Tickets and four P*O*P Ride Cards (unlimited rides) valid for admission any day of the 2016 Youth Fair for ages six to 64. To enter for a chance to win, guests are required to complete an online entry form and upload their costume image. The deadline to enter is October 31, 2015, 11:59 p.m. Winners will be announced via social media the week of Nov. 9th.

Hundreds of Foodies gathered in South Beach to experience one of the most important events of the 2015 gastronomic season: The South Beach Seafood Festival Chef Showdown Competition.

Twelve top chefs representing some of the best-known restaurants in the world went plate to plate at the Goya Foods Culinary Pavilion competing in six categories. The evening was presented by Land Rover of North and South Dade with Warren Henry Auto.

This Fun and Zany 2 day Art and Music event is celebrating it’s Eleventh Year in Coconut Grove. This year we are excited to include along with our always wonderful Original Artists a select group of Artisans with their Handmade Treasures as well as Vintage vendors. The Tent artist will be displaying their work inside The Barnacle Historic State Park which sits right on the beautiful Biscayne Bay in the center of Coconut Grove, additional artists will be setup along the sidewalks of Main Hwy. in Coconut Grove. There will be live music and plenty of food vendors as well as a “Most Unusual Hat” Contest with great prizes each day at 3pm. On Saturday after the festival ends at 5pm the gates to The Barnacle Historic State Park will reopen at 6pm and there will be an outdoor screening of the original Disney “Alice in Wonderland” movie. So bring a picnic and a blanket and sit under the stars and enjoy the movie. The Festival is Free and Park Admission is its regular $2 Fee. The movie fee is $5 for ages 6 and up and $3 ages 2-5. Dogs are allowed in the park on a leash. So grab your friends and family and come to The Grove for a day of fun and entertainment.

A huge perk of living in a city with consistent weather year-round is not having to think about the functionality of our clothes. That is, we rarely have to worry about dressing to face different metereological conditions (wind chill, rain, snow, etc.) so we have come to perceive clothes as more of an accessory, less a survival necessity. Then we travel and this mentality—groomed by years of not having to worry about whether our outfit will help or hinder us in an apocalypse—gets us in trouble. It’s the reason we found ourselves this week in the Outer Banks facing 64-degrees and 13mph winds in nothing but ripped jeans and a thin, long-sleeve t-shirt. (Apparently what we call “Fall clothes” in Miami is severely inadequate for dealing with actual Fall weather.) Although frozen solid and absolutely miserable, we decided to grin and bear it for a long overdue Miami style post because nothing is prettier with Fall clothing photo shoots than actual signs of Fall in the background. South Florida celebrated seafood, waterfront living and the start of the stone crab season by way of The Coconut Grove Seafood Festival at Peacock Park. For the third year in a row, event organizers brought together an array of seafood vendors offering bushels of shrimp, oysters, crawfish, lobster, stone crab, fish and clams prepared in a variety of ways.

The well known Casablanca Fish Market overflowed with fish from around the world that folks were able to select, purchase and take home after they had their fill at the festival. The Kitchen Lab featured cooking demos by popular South Florida restaurants.

The event was very family oriented. Children played inside the inflatable pirate village in the Family Fun Zone. There was also VIP Island for those who preferred a more exclusive experience.

As if all this wasn’t enough, the afternoon had a constant stream of live music including calypso, steel drum, island escapism and reggae. The Festival also featured several nautically themed exhibitors showcasing art, jewelry and home decor.

The folks at SWARM have definitely put together another winner!…We can’t wait to be back next year!

Walls South American Red Ale has been a Social Hall hit since CBB opened, so it makes sense that Walls is the first beer to be canned on CBB’s new state-of-the-art canning line. To celebrate the launch, CBB will give $1 off of the purchase of a 4-pack of 16 oz. cans of Walls to guests that bring in four cans of food, which CBB will donate to the Wynwood Food Bank, just in time for Thanksgiving. The launch will include live music and artists painting on a special CANvas.

Orchestra Miami inaugurates its new Family Fun Concert Series with Prokofiev’s classic tale told with a unique Halloween “twist”! Peter and the Werewolf, performed by Orchestra Miami, conducted by Elaine Rinaldi, will perform with special guest narrator “The Necromancer” (a.k.a. Neil Tobin), who will illustrate the story with magic tricks and special effects. Kids will be treated to cookies and juice after the performance and are encouraged to come in Halloween costume for the parade!

The new Family Fun Concert Series is modeled in the tradition of the former “Sunday Afternoons of Music for Children” series from Doreen Marx and Bryan Krulewitch and is designed to introduce children to a wide variety of art forms such as opera, theater, ballet and symphonic music, through exciting, kid-friendly performances.

There are three performances beginning on Halloween. Saturday, Oct. 31 at 1:00 PM in Aventura (Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High School Auditorium, 1410 NE 215 Street), Saturday, Oct. 31 at 4:00 PM in Doral (Divine Savior Academy, 10311 NW 58 Street) and Sunday, Nov. 1 at 4:00 PM in Pinecrest (Pinecrest Gardens, 11000 SW 57 Avenue). Single tickets are $10 for kids (ages 3-17) and $15 for adults. Peacock Park in Coconut Grove was the setting for Grovetoberfest which served over 300 unlimited beer samplings from around the country and around the world. Beer lovers gathered to try new releases, tap into old favorites and take part in Timed Tappings, which offered unprecedented access to specialty brews.

The Milam’s Kitchen Lab showcased award-winning, South Florida chefs who shared their fusion cuisine, beer pairing and cooking tips.

The Bougainvillea’s Live Music Stage featured South Florida favorite bands and food vendors were on hand selling everything from burgers to beer cupcakes.

Kudos to the crew at SWARM for putting together another awesome event!

The Nader Latin American Art Museum has launched the Botero Monumental Sculpture exhibit at Bayfront Park in Miami featuring 15 large-scale sculptures created by world-renowned Colombian artist Fernando Botero. Admission is free.

Fernando Botero is regarded as one of the world’s greatest artists and his voluptuous monumental sculptures are known and appreciated throughout the world. Many of his pieces have been exhibited in Paris, New, York, Venice, Seoul, Berlin, Tokyo, Madrid and Athens, among others. Michael Pirolo Makes Tortellini

This past summer, Italian cuisine master and all around bad-ass chef, Michael Pirolo, prepared a private Italian feast filled with Prosciutto di Parma for some very lucky guests.

The ham is almost as old as Italian cuisine itself with the earliest references to Prosciutto di Parma dating back all the way to Roman times around 100 BC. The ham has a very strict certification. By law it can only be produced in the gently rolling countryside surrounding the city of Parma in north central Italy. The ham must use Italian-born and bred pigs raised according to the highest standards on which they are monitored, inspected and traced.

Once the ham is ready to be cured, a highly experienced maestri salatori (aka salt master) applies a minimal amount of sea salt necessary to produce a ham with the desired savory-sweet flavor profile. This is also the reason why Prosciutto di Parma tastes less salty than other ham varieties. At the end of the curing process, every leg of Prosciutto di Parma is checked for quality and then fire branded with the five-pointed Parma Crown, signifying its guarantee of authenticity and quality.

Dolphin Mall is set to celebrate the holiday season by creating a magical winter wonderland experience for shoppers, complete with nightly snowfall powered by the imagination of children. The annual tradition begins Wednesday, Nov. 25 and will continue through Sunday, Jan. 3, 2016.

Festive snow flurries will take place inside the Ramblas Plaza every night at 7 p.m., with an additional snowfall at 9 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Wands will be distributed to participating families 30 minutes prior to start of each nightly snowfall. There will be no snow on Christmas Eve (Dec. 24), Christmas Day (Dec. 25), New Year’s Eve (Dec. 31) and New Year’s Day (Jan. 1, 2016).

CIFO Talks will be hosting Luis Camnitzer and Gean Moreno in a discussion following the ongoing exhibition, Intersections (after Lautréamont). The two will focus on differing views regarding Miami today and its current relationship with Latin America and the United States. This CIFO Talk will discuss the global impact of the growing influx of Latinos in Miami, creating the new capital of Latin America. CIFO’s Director and Curator Eugenio Valdés Figueroa, wants the audience to imagine themselves in Isidore Ducasse’s (Lautréamont) position, when in the late XIX century he emigrated from Uruguay to Paris. Initially exploding onto the scene in the late 70s as one of the first Graffiti artists to exhibit his paintings internationally, Fab was key in getting the art world to realize that New York graffiti was spawning an art movement that would eventually give birth to street art. A true multidisciplinary artist, Fab also explored film, music and television projects, collaborating on the cult classic film Wild Style, producing rap videos for artists including Queen Latifah, KRS-One, and Shabba Ranks, and hosting Yo! To celebrate National Sandwich Day on Monday, November 2nd, La Moderna is offering a complimentary glass of wine with an order of the Broccola Panozzi, a “pizza sandwich” stuffed with broccoli rabe, bufala mozzarella and Italian Sausage, available during lunch time hours.

Hailing from the streets of Napoli, the Panozzi was created to serve as a quick, delicious lunch for the working-class in the modernist period in Italy after World War II. This distinctive Italian street food is shaped like a big sandwich, made ​​from high-quality pizza dough and baked in the handmade Stefano Ferrara wood-burning oven. The interior of the Panozzi can be stuffed with a variety of cheeses, meats and vegetables.

The dough is baked flat, and once done it is pulled from the oven, stuffed and then given a second pass in the oven immediately before consumption. The Business Improvement District (BID) of Coral Gables makes dining dreams come true in one event with the start of the 2015 Giralda Under the Stars presented by Zacapa Rum dining al fresco series. More than a dozen restaurants and bars on the renowned Restaurant Row on Giralda Avenue, located between Ponce de Leon Boulevard and Galiano Street, will bring culinary excellence and libations outdoors for diners to enjoy, literally, under the stars. Miami City Ballet is thrilled to relaunch its popular young professionals group, Upper Room, during its 30th Anniversary Season.

Upper Room’s official season kickoff will take place on October 29 at MCB’s Open Barre: Dance + Design followed by an exclusive party at Klima on South Beach.

Open Barre: Dance + Design will explore the confluence of ballet and the visual arts with Artistic Director Lourdes Lopez, special guests Tanya Williams Wetenhall and Michele Oka Doner, and MCB dancers performing.

Beginning in Miami and Miami Beach during the post World War II era as a local variation of modernist architectural movements in other parts of the world, MiMo buildings add glamour, fun, and material excess to otherwise stark, minimalist, and efficient styles.

The Fontainebleau, Eden Roc and Deauville hotels and garden style apartments are stunning examples of MiMo – featuring acute angles, delta wings, sweeping curved walls, and soaring pylons. Like Art Deco, there is a strong preservationist movement to preserve MiMo from the wrecking ball. In the exhibit, TOTEMS seven artists interpret their perceptions of what is idolized and worshipped today from the saintly to the irreverent. One of the most interesting, refreshing and informative ways to spend an afternoon in Miami Beach is to take an Art Deco Cocktail Tour. As the name implies, you will be walking around the Art Deco gems of South Beach while stopping at a few of them to enjoy a libation.

Recently, Christine Michaels of Art Deco Tours invited a group of bloggers to participate in the experience. We all gathered at the Z Ocean Hotel where Christine immediately made us feel welcomed, she introduced us to James Cubby who would serve as our guide along with Christine.

It was an amazing experience!

Even if you’ve been in Miami most of your life (such as myself) the Art Deco Cocktail Tour is a wonderful way to get re-acquainted with Miami Beach’s wonderful history and architecture, not to mention the depth of information that can only be acquired from seeing and walking through these magnificent masterpieces. Just take the tour…you won’t regret it.

Miami City Ballet will kick off its landmark 30th Anniversary Season with a red-carpet opening night celebration at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in Miami, on October 23, 2015 at 6:30pm.

Ticket holders are invited to join the company 90 minutes prior to curtain on the Arsht Center’s Thompson Plaza for the Arts for an open-air reception with specialty cocktails, a live DJ, photo ops and a toast to 30 years of ballet. No RSVP necessary.

The Opening Night performance begins at 8:00pm in the Arsht Center’s Ziff Ballet Opera House with three fan favorites, including Swan Lake, George Balanchine’s one-act version of the most famous of all ballets, set to Tchaikovsky’s most dramatic and evocative score. The site is located on a lake waterfront with a sand beach, and features a landscape with a long stretch of grass, elements of bushes and trees and a building with concrete walls and a wrap around tarmac.

Miami Dade College’s (MDC) MDC Live Arts will present the U.S. debut of Combinado Argentino de Danza (CAD), Saturday, Oct. 17 at 8 p.m., at the Colony Theatre. The renegade collective of dancers, musicians, DJs, and artists from Buenos Aires create a dynamic universe—where hip-hop, contemporary and Argentine folkloric dance engage and evolve in a constant state of conversation and transformation. Ticket are $25 for the general public and $10 for MDC students.

CAD’s signature is the diversity of disciplines and styles that exist within it. Unlike other multi-disciplinary dance companies that aim for a fusion of genres, CAD instead maintains and plays with the variety of independent expressions—seeking common logic or provocative interactions within a shared space. Reflecting our contemporary, globally-influenced and culturally-expanding society, it is a salad bowl versus a melting pot, and the results are striking. Hip-hop, contemporary and folkloric dancers, from conservatory and street alike, interplay or are juxtaposed in grand compositions.
