Each month the Italian wine dinner will showcase a four-course menu, which will be curated and prepared by the award-winning culinary team from Toscana Divino. The featured menu will be paired with ZONIN1821’s esteemed wine estates from the seven most important wine regions in Italy. This month will be a Piemonte Wine Dinner.

Our inaugural wine dinner in the “Behind the Red Curtain: An Exclusive Tour of Italy” took us to Tuscany featuring Castello D’Albola. The guests were greeted with Zonin Prosecco, delicious ciccheti and succulent affetati. The courses included dishes like Pici Pasta Senesi with Duck & Tomato Ragu and Carnaroli Risotto ai “Fungi Porcini paired with Chianti Classico, Bisteca a la Fiorentina paired with Chianti Classico Riserva.

Join us on the next stop in our tour of Italy as ZONIN 1821 and Toscana Divino highlight the Piemonte, a region rich in food and wine best-known for their Barolos and Barbarescos featuring a carefully curated menu perfectly paired with wines from Castelo del Poggio. The menu will include locally inspired plates such as Crispy Veal Tendon, Leek Agnolotti with Truffles, Barolo Braised Beef and Gianduja Cake.

Guests will enjoy casual conversation about wines with a featured sommelier, as well as wonderful raffle prizes, including free bottles of wine and other gifts sure to delight both foodies and oenophiles. The Italian wine dinner of the series will take place on Tuesday, November 10th with seating at 8 p.m. for $80 pp. Guests must be age 21 or older to participate in this event.

The Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation (CIFO) will present the first solo exhibition in the United Stated of seminal Cuban artist Gustavo Pérez Monzón. The exhibition, which brings together more than 70 works created between 1979 and the late 1980’s, provides a close look at the artist’s practice during the final decade that he lived and worked in Cuba. Curated by Elsa Vega and René Francisco Rodríguez, the anthological exhibition traces Pérez Monzón’s career through one of his most prolific periods. The exhibition will include a series of drawings, installations, and site-specific works reflecting Pérez Monzón’s interest in exploring Geometric Abstraction, Abstract Expressionism, and Spatialism.

This program represents guitar music by composers from various countries and continents. Featured European composers include Scelsi, Stanczyk, Zavala and Duran-Loriga. In collaboration with the Harold Golen Gallery, FETA Foundation presents Stephen Marotto in a program of music for solo cello and electronics, all of which explore the boundaries of the instrument in a unique way. “In ImagE, Roger Reynolds creates beautiful textures that juxtapose the natural harmonics and resonance of the instrument with virtuosic grace note flurries. Mark Andre knits a delicate sound world, most of which occupies the space on the threshold of silence in iv 2. The music utilizes physical gestures on the instrument that are precisely mapped out, mediating un-pitched materials to create tension. In contrast, Mourning Fog by Rand Steiger features beautiful melodic figures derived from distinct harmonic spectra. The cello is augmented by live electronics. The cello sounds are recorded, processed and then recombined. The final piece, Salvatore Sciarrino’s Ai Limiti Della Notte unleashes the tensions hidden in the residuals of the strings.”

In collaboration with the St. Bede Episcopal Chapel, FETA Foundation presents Andy Lee in a contemporary piano performance. The program opens with a piece by Greek-Canadian composer Constantine Caravassilis, Fantasia No. 5, Lumen de Lumine. Inspired by the church bells of Pythagorion, the music seems to emerge from the depths of the piano into lush chords and repeating figures. The second work, Scott Unrein’s “bird-drawn in the sky of light,” was premiered by R. Andrew Lee in 2013 during his UK tour. Written in discrete musical cells, the performer is afforded the freedom to choose what elements of each cell are played and for how long. The second half of the program will be Adrian Knight’s “Obsessions.” Commissioned by Lee, this work presents an extended exploration of stubborn habits, routines, and patterns layered over Knight’s beautiful, extended harmonic language. The Kiwanis of Little Havana is set to host its 39th Annual Christmas Gala, with support from BMW, Bacardi, Coca-Cola, AT&T and Heineken. Proceeds from the annual fundraising event will benefit various Kiwanis of Little Havana Foundation projects, including “A Toy for Every Child” and “Adopt-a-Family” holiday initiatives, as well as the Kiwanis of Little Havana Foundation Future Leaders Through Education Scholarship Fund.

“We are excited to continue honoring the club’s 40th anniversary during our annual Christmas Gala and raise the funds needed to provide gifts, meals and essential items to thousands of families during the holidays and beyond,” said Tony Lorenzo, chairman of the Kiwanis of Little Havana Foundation. “We are grateful for our corporate and community partners who help our members and volunteers further our mission of giving back to those in need, one child and one community at a time.”

Guests will dance to the rhythm of live performances by internationally renowned Grammy-award winner, legendary Cuban-American music icon and past King of Carnaval Miami (1993) Willy Chirino, Grammy-award winning Cuban-music sensation and past Queen of Carnaval Miami (2005) Albita, along with 80s disco-diva and queen of freestyle, Shannon. Attendees will also enjoy an open bar and buffet stations featuring local cuisine. Formal attire will be strictly enforced.

Additional benefiting foundation projects include the annual Kiwanis Club of Little Havana Christmas Fair, and many more community goodwill youth initiatives.

The Nation’s Top Athletes in Men’s & Women’s Bodybuilding, Men’s & Women’s Physique, Figure & Bikini Compete

MIAMI – The streets of Downtown Miami will be overrun with hot bodies come November 20th as THE highest ranked and most competitive event of the year held by the “National Physique Committee”(NPC) comes to the James L. Knight Center in Miami (400 SE 2nd Ave.)

National tittles and pro competitive status will be awarded to the winners allowing them to compete on the IFBB Pro Grand Prix Tour. The foremost athletes in each bodybuilding class, including figure, bikini, men’s & women’s physique will be judged on a variety of criteria.

The two top class winners in Men’s Bodybuilding and the 1st Place Class winners in Women’s Bodybuilding will be eligible for International Federation of Body Building (IFBB) Pro status. The top two winners in each of the six height classes in the Women’s Figure and Bikini divisions as well as the first two in each height class in both Men’s and Women’s Physique divisions attain IFBB status.

This yearly event, produced by New York’s Stonecutter Event Promotions, Inc, attracts approximately 1,000 competitors from around the 50 states and is sponsored by the leading brands in physical fitness, including: GNC, ABB Performance, Optimum Nutrition, MET-RX, Body Fortress, Infinite Labs, OhYeah!, BSN, Bodybuilding.com and NPC News.

Miami’s globally-recognized annual Stone Crab season kicked off at the 3rd annual South Beach Seafood Festival. Thousands flocked to 7th & Ocean Drive to experience the seasonal selections of Miami’s top chefs and restaurants during the all-day festival. The South Beach Seafood Festival also featured live music, culinary and mixology demonstrations, a kid’s zone, health village, and VIP hospitality benefits. There was fun for all ages with countless interactive zones, retail villages, and a sports bar showing the day’s college football match-ups right on the sand.

A portion of proceeds from the South Beach Seafood Festival benefit the Community Initiatives Foundation, who’s program EAT SMART fulfills the perfect balance between youth nutrition and childhood development by providing healthy weekend meals and frequent outdoor activity to children in Miami Beach.

Zoo Miami again will host a 5K race it can call its own! Zoo Miami Foundation (formerly Zoological Society of Florida) and West Kendall Baptist Hospital have partnered to offer two fun, wild events on November 14, 2015. Unlike other 5Ks and walks held at the zoo, this event will offer benefits that only the team at the zoo can offer, running through the Zoo Miami exhibit path.

The ZooRun5K presented by Gilly Vending, which sold out the last two years, is for folks of every speed – from cheetah to tortoise – so no matter your pace, come out for fun and exercise. This 3.1 mile timed race is walker-friendly and will take place around the entire zoo. The ZooKidsDash presented by Kidz Medical Services is a race for kids ages 2 – 9. This race will include a range of distances from 100 to 525 meters and opportunities to interact with Gigi, Kaz and Pio – the popular Zoo Squad mascots. Participants are also being asked to dress or accessorize like their favorite animal to win prizes at the costume contest.

Celebrate the joy and magic of the holiday season at The Falls! On Saturday, November 21, The Falls Shopping Center will ring in the season with the 19th Annual “Miracle on 136th Street” Holiday Parade. This year, the free event will be led by celebrity Grand Marshal, Raini Rodriguez, of The Disney Channel’s ‘Austin & Ally’ series.

Each year, the annual event is attended by more than 20,000 Miami residents and visitors. Miami-Dade dignitaries and celebrities alike will ride through the parade in vintage and convertible cars. In addition to local dignitaries and Raini Rodriguez, the parade features local marching bands, holiday-themed floats, bag pipers, stilt walkers, junkanoos, giant puppets, holiday character favorites, community groups and internationally recognized costumed characters.

Listen for jingling sleigh bells and a jolly, magical laugh because after the parade, Santa Claus will set up in Center Court to share the spirit of the holiday season! The spirit of the holidays will extend beyond the North Pole. Following the parade, visitors will be enchanted by the thousands of lights, giant animal topiaries, elaborate water elements and more in the shopping center’s gardens and waterfalls.

Following the holiday parade, Raini Rodriguez will perform on the Center Court stage at 6:30 PM, singing joyous holiday music. Guests will also enjoy entertainment including a magical snow globe performance, belly dancing and more, near Macy’s & Bloomingdale’s.

Spectators are encouraged to arrive early and line both sides of the parade route before the 4:00 p.m. kick-off. The iconic Peanuts characters will take centerstage at Dolphin Mall this holiday season! The Peanuts Ice Palace will feature a 30-foot dome complete with falling snow, a light show and other activities for the entire family. Everyone will have the opportunity to visit Santa Claus, watch special scenes from the new movie, create and compare their icy handprints alongside Snoopy and Woodstock, have their photo taken with a life-size graphic of Snoopy and his dog house, and much more. The ‘Spooking Savings’ promotion includes two Youth Fair General Admission Tickets, valid for admission any day of the 2016 Youth Fair for ages six through 64. Hundreds of Foodies gathered in South Beach to experience one of the most important events of the 2015 gastronomic season: The South Beach Seafood Festival Chef Showdown Competition.

Twelve top chefs representing some of the best-known restaurants in the world went plate to plate at the Goya Foods Culinary Pavilion competing in six categories. The evening was presented by Land Rover of North and South Dade with Warren Henry Auto.

This Fun and Zany 2 day Art and Music event is celebrating it’s Eleventh Year in Coconut Grove. This year we are excited to include along with our always wonderful Original Artists a select group of Artisans with their Handmade Treasures as well as Vintage vendors. The Tent artist will be displaying their work inside The Barnacle Historic State Park which sits right on the beautiful Biscayne Bay in the center of Coconut Grove, additional artists will be setup along the sidewalks of Main Hwy. in Coconut Grove. There will be live music and plenty of food vendors as well as a “Most Unusual Hat” Contest with great prizes each day at 3pm. On Saturday after the festival ends at 5pm the gates to The Barnacle Historic State Park will reopen at 6pm and there will be an outdoor screening of the original Disney “Alice in Wonderland” movie. So bring a picnic and a blanket and sit under the stars and enjoy the movie. The Festival is Free and Park Admission is its regular $2 Fee. The movie fee is $5 for ages 6 and up and $3 ages 2-5. Dogs are allowed in the park on a leash. So grab your friends and family and come to The Grove for a day of fun and entertainment.

A huge perk of living in a city with consistent weather year-round is not having to think about the functionality of our clothes. That is, we rarely have to worry about dressing to face different metereological conditions (wind chill, rain, snow, etc.) so we have come to perceive clothes as more of an accessory, less a survival necessity. Then we travel and this mentality—groomed by years of not having to worry about whether our outfit will help or hinder us in an apocalypse—gets us in trouble. It’s the reason we found ourselves this week in the Outer Banks facing 64-degrees and 13mph winds in nothing but ripped jeans and a thin, long-sleeve t-shirt. (Apparently what we call “Fall clothes” in Miami is severely inadequate for dealing with actual Fall weather.) Although frozen solid and absolutely miserable, we decided to grin and bear it for a long overdue Miami style post because nothing is prettier with Fall clothing photo shoots than actual signs of Fall in the background. South Florida celebrated seafood, waterfront living and the start of the stone crab season by way of The Coconut Grove Seafood Festival at Peacock Park. For the third year in a row, event organizers brought together an array of seafood vendors offering bushels of shrimp, oysters, crawfish, lobster, stone crab, fish and clams prepared in a variety of ways.

The well known Casablanca Fish Market overflowed with fish from around the world that folks were able to select, purchase and take home after they had their fill at the festival. The Kitchen Lab featured cooking demos by popular South Florida restaurants.

The event was very family oriented. Children played inside the inflatable pirate village in the Family Fun Zone. There was also VIP Island for those who preferred a more exclusive experience.

As if all this wasn’t enough, the afternoon had a constant stream of live music including calypso, steel drum, island escapism and reggae. The Festival also featured several nautically themed exhibitors showcasing art, jewelry and home decor.

The folks at SWARM have definitely put together another winner!…We can’t wait to be back next year!

Walls South American Red Ale has been a Social Hall hit since CBB opened, so it makes sense that Walls is the first beer to be canned on CBB’s new state-of-the-art canning line. Orchestra Miami inaugurates its new Family Fun Concert Series with Prokofiev’s classic tale told with a unique Halloween “twist”! Peter and the Werewolf, performed by Orchestra Miami, conducted by Elaine Rinaldi, will perform with special guest narrator “The Necromancer” (a.k.a. Neil Tobin), who will illustrate the story with magic tricks and special effects. Orchestra Miami inaugurates its new Family Fun Concert Series with Prokofiev’s classic tale told with a unique Halloween “twist”! Peter and the Werewolf, performed by Orchestra Miami, conducted by Elaine Rinaldi, will perform with special guest narrator “The Necromancer” (a.k.a. Neil Tobin), who will illustrate the story with magic tricks and special effects. Kids will be treated to cookies and juice after the performance and are encouraged to come in Halloween costume for the parade!

The new Family Fun Concert Series is modeled in the tradition of the former “Sunday Afternoons of Music for Children” series from Doreen Marx and Bryan Krulewitch and is designed to introduce children to a wide variety of art forms such as opera, theater, ballet and symphonic music, through exciting, kid-friendly performances.

There are three performances beginning on Halloween. Saturday, Oct. 31 at 1:00 PM in Aventura (Dr. Michael M. Peacock Park in Coconut Grove was the setting for Grovetoberfest which served over 300 unlimited beer samplings from around the country and around the world. Beer lovers gathered to try new releases, tap into old favorites and take part in Timed Tappings, which offered unprecedented access to specialty brews.

The Milam’s Kitchen Lab showcased award-winning, South Florida chefs who shared their fusion cuisine, beer pairing and cooking tips.

The Bougainvillea’s Live Music Stage featured South Florida favorite bands and food vendors were on hand selling everything from burgers to beer cupcakes.

Kudos to the crew at SWARM for putting together another awesome event!

The Halloween Edition of Bay Skate Miami is just around the corner coming up on Friday, October 30th at Bayfront Park. The Nader Latin American Art Museum has launched the Botero Monumental Sculpture exhibit at Bayfront Park in Miami featuring 15 large-scale sculptures created by world-renowned Colombian artist Fernando Botero. Admission is free.

Fernando Botero is regarded as one of the world’s greatest artists and his voluptuous monumental sculptures are known and appreciated throughout the world. Michael Pirolo Makes Tortellini

This past summer, Italian cuisine master and all around bad-ass chef, Michael Pirolo, prepared a private Italian feast filled with Prosciutto di Parma for some very lucky guests.

The ham is almost as old as Italian cuisine itself with the earliest references to Prosciutto di Parma dating back all the way to Roman times around 100 BC. The ham has a very strict certification. By law it can only be produced in the gently rolling countryside surrounding the city of Parma in north central Italy. The ham must use Italian-born and bred pigs raised according to the highest standards on which they are monitored, inspected and traced.

Once the ham is ready to be cured, a highly experienced maestri salatori (aka salt master) applies a minimal amount of sea salt necessary to produce a ham with the desired savory-sweet flavor profile. This is also the reason why Prosciutto di Parma tastes less salty than other ham varieties. At the end of the curing process, every leg of Prosciutto di Parma is checked for quality and then fire branded with the five-pointed Parma Crown, signifying its guarantee of authenticity and quality.

Dolphin Mall is set to celebrate the holiday season by creating a magical winter wonderland experience for shoppers, complete with nightly snowfall powered by the imagination of children. The annual tradition begins Wednesday, Nov. 25 and will continue through Sunday, Jan. 3, 2016.

To celebrate National Sandwich Day on Monday, November 2nd, La Moderna is offering a complimentary glass of wine with an order of the Broccola Panozzi, a “pizza sandwich” stuffed with broccoli rabe, bufala mozzarella and Italian Sausage, available during lunch time hours.

Hailing from the streets of Napoli, the Panozzi was created to serve as a quick, delicious lunch for the working-class in the modernist period in Italy after World War II. This distinctive Italian street food is shaped like a big sandwich, made ​​from high-quality pizza dough and baked in the handmade Stefano Ferrara wood-burning oven. The interior of the Panozzi can be stuffed with a variety of cheeses, meats and vegetables.

The Business Improvement District (BID) of Coral Gables makes dining dreams come true in one event with the start of the 2015 Giralda Under the Stars presented by Zacapa Rum dining al fresco series. More than a dozen restaurants and bars on the renowned Restaurant Row on Giralda Avenue, located between Ponce de Leon Boulevard and Galiano Street, will bring culinary excellence and libations outdoors for diners to enjoy, literally, under the stars. Restaurant Row will be closed to vehicular traffic, and participating restaurants will fill the street with tables and chairs, live music and entertainment from 7 p.m. to midnight every first Friday of the month through April 2016. Miami City Ballet is thrilled to relaunch its popular young professionals group, Upper Room, during its 30th Anniversary Season.

Upper Room’s official season kickoff will take place on October 29 at MCB’s Open Barre: Dance + Design followed by an exclusive party at Klima on South Beach.

Open Barre: Dance + Design will explore the confluence of ballet and the visual arts with Artistic Director Lourdes Lopez, special guests Tanya Williams Wetenhall and Michele Oka Doner, and MCB dancers performing.

Beginning in Miami and Miami Beach during the post World War II era as a local variation of modernist architectural movements in other parts of the world, MiMo buildings add glamour, fun, and material excess to otherwise stark, minimalist, and efficient styles.

The Fontainebleau, Eden Roc and Deauville hotels and garden style apartments are stunning examples of MiMo – featuring acute angles, delta wings, sweeping curved walls, and soaring pylons. Like Art Deco, there is a strong preservationist movement to preserve MiMo from the wrecking ball. The present development boom is relentless in its quest to replace this architecture with highrises.

In the exhibit, TOTEMS seven artists interpret their perceptions of what is idolized and worshipped today from the saintly to the irreverent. Borrowing elements from science and technology to politics and religion, the real and the imaginary often colliding to inspire new mythologies realized in contemporary iconography and materials.

One of the most interesting, refreshing and informative ways to spend an afternoon in Miami Beach is to take an Art Deco Cocktail Tour. As the name implies, you will be walking around the Art Deco gems of South Beach while stopping at a few of them to enjoy a libation.

Recently, Christine Michaels of Art Deco Tours invited a group of bloggers to participate in the experience. We all gathered at the Z Ocean Hotel where Christine immediately made us feel welcomed, she introduced us to James Cubby who would serve as our guide along with Christine.

It was an amazing experience!

Even if you’ve been in Miami most of your life (such as myself) the Art Deco Cocktail Tour is a wonderful way to get re-acquainted with Miami Beach’s wonderful history and architecture, not to mention the depth of information that can only be acquired from seeing and walking through these magnificent masterpieces. Just take the tour…you won’t regret it.

As Miami grows into a major global city and establishes its cultural identity, Young Artists Initiative (YAI), an avant-garde collective of young artists has made it their mission to contribute a unique substance to the landscape of culture and art.

Just like the Impressionists challenged the Académie des Beaux-Arts with their independent exhibitions in 19th Century Paris, or street artists such as Banksy stirred emotion in the streets of London in the 90s, YAI brings together young, forward-thinking artists to shape the face of their growing world-class city.

Calling the burgeoning artistic hubs of Miami their home, their vision is of a Miami recognized for class and connoisseurship in modern art forms, including all various genres that inhabit Miami’s underground, waiting to burst to the surface. Welcome to their vision.
