The Miami International Map Fair, the largest map fair in the world, will return to HistoryMiami February 8-9, 2014. This year, the Map Fair will be hosted in HistoryMiami’s newly expanded facility, the former home of the Miami Art Museum, adjacent to the museum’s current location on Downtown Miami’s Cultural Plaza.

Some of the interesting, rare and decorative maps to be showcased at this year’s fair include:
• van Keulen Map (1780) – Drawn earlier in the 18th century, this 1780 edition is considered a landmark in mapping Florida, Cuba and the Western Caribbean. The level of detail was well ahead of its time, including unprecedented accuracy in mapping the Florida Keys. Also included in the map were inset charts detailing developmental plans for the city of Havana, as well as charts of Matanzas Bay & Hondo Bay.
• Popple Map (1746) – The first map to show all Thirteen Colonies, including plans for harbor development along the Eastern seaboard, as well as archaic spellings of names like the ‘Western’/ ‘Atlantick’ Ocean and ‘South’ Sea, which we know today as the Pacific Ocean. Comprised of 20 sheets, the Popple Map is considered one of the two most important large- format maps of North America published in the 18th century. At a time when colonial control of North America was by no means certain, this map made a profound statement of England’s designs for dominance of the North American continent.

Held each year during the first weekend in February, the Miami International Map Fair provides both the serious collector and casual buyer with a weekend to browse antique maps, rare books, as well as attend a series of special topical lectures.

This year’s lecturers include:
• Alex J.C. Johnson, Ph.D. – author of the new book, The First Mapping of America: The General Survey of British North America, 1764-1775 (London: I.B. Tauris, 2014). He is a recognized academic and commercial specialist in historical geography, with a particular interest in the mapping of Great Britain and her former colonies in North America and the West Indies.
• Margaret Pritchard – the senior curator and curator of prints, maps and wallpaper for the Colonial Wiliamsburg Foundation. Margaret has lectured and published on topics relating to the collection for which she is responsible. Her most recent publication was a comprehensive catalog of the map collection at Colonial Williamsburg, Degress of Latutuide: Mapping Colonial America (Harry N. Abrams, 2002)
• Susan Schulten, Ph.D. – professor and chair of the history department at the University of Denver. She is the author of Mapping the Nation: History and Cartography in the Nineteenth-Century America (University of Chicago Press, 2012) and The Geographical Imagination in America, 1880-1950 (University of Chicago Press, 2001).

Also new to the fair for 2014 is a free, ‘Map-tacular’ Family Fun Day on Saturday, February 8. The Family Fun Day is open to the public and features interactive map exhibits for the whole family, as well as a photo opportunity with Super WHY from PBS Kids.

The Miami based Holistic Health Fund will once again bring health awareness to South Florida by hosting the 3rd Annual Holistic Health Fund Walk-a-Thon & Expo. The Expo will feature a day of free informative workshops, raffle prizes, music and more. As a way to recruit ideas from South Florida’s many neighborhoods, Knight Foundation will host a series of Community Q&A sessions from Marathon to Fort Lauderdale. The events, taking place Feb. 3-11, will offer tips on preparing applications, information on the challenge timelines, and a chance to talk to past winners on what gave their submissions an edge. The schedule is below.
“In recent years, we’ve seen a growing number of great ideas from our many neighborhoods—ideas that are bringing the arts into people’s everyday lives,” said Dennis Scholl, Knight Foundation’s vice president for arts. “We want to help ensure that there is art wherever you go in South Florida.”

Leanor Antunes will open a project gallery installation at PAMM in June 2014. While visiting to research the context for this new site-specific piece, she will deliver a talk to introduce her work to PAMM’s public. Often researching important architectural histories, Antunes, now based in Berlin, has created work informed by her studies of sites in Brazil, Italy, and her native Portugal. Antunes creates elegant minimal installations often using craft techniques that correspond to measurements, material, site and memory.
Free with museum admission.

Pérez Art Musuem Miami will present Cortadito, a traditional Cuban Son ensemble that performs music from the 1920-50s. Influenced by the sounds of Son Montuno, Boleros and other early Cuban musical styles, this dynamic group brings you back to a time when Trio Matamoros and Ignacio Piniero ruled the airwaves. Enjoy dancing under the stars, a rum bar on on the terrace, and see paintings by Cuban modernist Amelia Peláez along with other works on views in the galleries.

Prolong the Valentine’s Day celebration of friendship and love with your friends and family! Treat them to a delicious hot breakfast at Zoo Miami Children’s Zoo, surrounded by animals for a one of a kind dining experience. We do all the cooking, decorating and cleaning while you simply relax and enjoy this special day.

You and your loved ones will enjoy exciting animal encounters as our zookeepers stroll the area with an assortment of loveable critters. Additionally, we will show a little love to our meerkat family by providing them with treats and enrichment to make theirs and your day extra special. As a grand finale, we will put on a special show about animal “valentines” in our Children’s Zoo Amphitheater.

We aren’t done yet, though, after breakfast you can ride a live camel or take a ride on our Endangered Animal Carousel (not live animals), or do both. Then enjoy the rest of your day throughout the Zoo visiting all the animals as part of your holiday celebration. Don’t forget to bring your cameras for this Valentine’s special adventure.

Do you know why we eat yellow cheese? Find out in The Mice War, David Chesky’s absurdist opera for kids, presented by Orchestra Miami, in collaboration with the Florida Grand Opera.

The Mice War is a little story about the industrious Blue Mice that live in the North
and the passive Red Mice that live on an Island way in the south. The Blue Mice need to make more money so they decide they need to have a war. But what’s the reason for the war? The Blue Mice eat pink cheese and the Red Mice eat yellow cheese. What would happen if the Red Mice came and made the Blue Mice eat yellow Cheese?

The Mice War is an Opera for kids that teaches about the absurdity of war
and acceptance of cultural diversity while introducing them to classical music.
The performance features three Young Artists from the Florida Grand Opera accompanied by eight professional musicians form Orchestra Miami, conducted by Brian Onderdonk and directed by A. Scott Parry. This delightful program will last approximately 50 minutes and is perfect for children ages 3 and up.

The performance will be on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at 4:00 PM at Pinecrest Gardens’ Banyan Bowl, located at 11000 SW 57 Avenue, Pinecrest, FL 33156. Tickets are $10 for Adults and $5 for children. Children 2 and younger admitted free of charge with lap seating only. Seating is by general admission and there is ample free, on-site parking. Mark Leventhal is gravely ill. He is in the ICU. He has an infection that is affecting his body and his brain and we are all praying for him. For more than two decades, Miami resident Mark Leventhal has been on the decks at some of the best venues and parties in South Beach. Today, Leventhal lays in a coma at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

His younger sister, Amy Leventhal, says that he went to urgent care last Wednesday because long-term pain in his back had become unbearable. They sent him to the hospital, where doctors found an infection in his body and brain and put him directly into intensive care (ICU).

An Evening of Art, Wine & Conversation

They say a picture is worth a 1,000 words, in which case ‘i-Miami 2013,’ Marc Schmidt’s debut photography exhibition, speaks volumes. Reminiscent of Walker, Vishniac, Atget, Lange and Arbus, Marc Schmidt’s photography is strong and thought-provoking, reflecting the zeitgeist of the postmodern World. Using the simplest of tools, his iPhone camera and his bicycle for transportation, Schmidt has created a poignant visual essay of the inner city and its denizens. Schmidt’s affinity and respect for his subject matter are evident in the narrative structure of his compositions and the intuitive poetic resonance of his imagery.

Marc Schmidt was born in Chicago and raised in Hamburg. A physician by profession, Schmidt has had a love affair with the art of photography since his teen years when he started documenting street scenes in Hamburg. Schmidt has traveled around the world capturing life in all its aspects for over a decade and has previously published his work only once; a photography essay on a refugee camp in Rwanda. He has been running a successful photo rental studio in Hamburg since 2001. In 2013 he opened CU-1 Gallery in downtown Miami and has been documenting Miami street life since April of the same year.

The Miami Classical Guitar Society proudly presents the third concert of its 2013-2014 Season, featuring young Russian virtuoso Rovshan Mamedkuliev, First Prize Winner of the 2012 Guitar Foundation of America International Competition!

Born in 1986 in Baku, Azerbaijan, Rovshan graduated from the prestigious Nizhny Novgorod Conservatoire where he studied with nationally renowned guitarist Aleksey Petropavlovsky, and in 2006 received a special grant from Russian President Vladimir Putin for high achievements in the arts. Since then, Rovshan has performed in major cities in France, Russia, Germany, Spain and the United States, where he performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City in 2012. He has been a laureate of over 23 competitions, including first prizes in the 41st International Guitar Competition “Francisco Tárrega” (Spain), the 10th International Guitar Competition “Hommage à Leo Brouwer” (France), and the 1st International Guitar Competition “Heitor Villa-Lobos” (Spain). He is now touring over 50 cities in the United States, Canada, and Mexico as part of his GFA competition prize, and just recorded a new CD with the Naxos label.

The Marlins Foundation is pleased to announce the second cycle of Compression for Life, a program that teaches heart health and provides CPR and first aid training to the youth at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami Dade.

In 2012, the Marlins Foundation and Catcher Jeff Urgelles launched a CPR class for the kids at the Boys and Girls Club of Miami Dade. This program was inspired by news of Urgelles’ vital role in saving the life of a young woman who had collapsed with cardiac arrest during a Marlins away game in Arizona.

“The Compression for Life Program helps our kids understand and learn the importance of CPR.” shares Alex Rodriguez-Roig, President of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami Dade. “We’re thankful to Jeff and the Marlins for helping make our community a safer and healthier place.”

During the first year of the program, Compression for Life taught the importance of heart health to over 100 youth at the Boys & Girls Club Hank Kline Campus, and provided CPR certification for twenty Boys & Girls Clubs employees. This year, the program will continue with additional support from the local American Heart Association and 911 Education Consultants to offer Compression for Life at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami Dade Kendall Campus.

A tertulia is a literary or artistic gathering for the purpose of discussion, a sort of salon. We invite you to a three-part tertulia focused on the exhibition Amelia Peláez: The Craft of Modernity.

Part one – Amelia’s Architectural Precedents – Raul L. Rodriguez, AIA
The integration of the built environment into the work of Amelia Pelaéz is evident. Rodriguez illustrates how three cultural streams syncretized and influenced twentieth century art in Cuba.

Part two – “Magnificent Femininity”: Critical Interpretations of Amelia Peláez del Casal – Ingrid W. Elliott, Ph.D.
Contemporary critics paid a great deal of attention to Peláez’s position as a female artist; particular consideration was given to the notion of “femininity” in relation to her painting. Elliott assesses the ways in which Peláez’s expression of craft and domesticity are in dialogue with these gendered interpretations of her work by her peers.

Part three – Finding Amelia: Excerpts from RUM & COKE – Carmen Peláez
The artist’s great-niece performs a staged reading of excerpts from her play RUM & COKE. After seeing a Peláez painting in person for the first time, the protagonist decides to go to Cuba, hoping to discover what makes beautiful, beautiful.

The Coral Gables Art Cinema’s third annual fundraiser, A Night at Our Cabaret, takes place on Saturday, February 1, 2014, starting at 7:00 pm, at The Westin Colonnade on Aragon Avenue, one block east of the theater. Hosted by CBS4 anchor Eliott Rodriguez, A Night at Our Cabaret will feature delicious food, an open bar courtesy of Bacardi, music, performances, a silent auction, and other surprises. The goal of the evening is to raise funds so that this non-profit organization can continue to operate as the leading first-run art cinema and film arts center in South Florida. Steven Krams will also be recognized for his years of leadership as Founder and President of the Coral Gables Art Cinema.

The Coral Gables Art Cinema exhibits independent, international, and classic films, offering first-run, seven-day-a-week showcase presentations in both 35mm and true industry-standard theater quality digital projection. Cinema programs also include special events for families and children, film festivals and educational activities. It is located at 260 Aragon Avenue, across the street from Books & Books and the Coral Gables Museum, which is at 285 Aragon Avenue.

“We are so proud of the continued success of the Gables Cinema,” said Director Robert Rosenberg. “Our Cabaret fundraiser will help us to continue to grow and deepen our programs, with key community support.” A Night at Our Cabaret is expected to attract over 200 attendees who will come together in support of the film programming and educational activities of the Gables Cinema.

“A Night at Our Cabaret will be our biggest, most glamorous and fun annual fundraiser ever,” said Board Member and Event Chair of the Coral Gables Art Cinema Maritza Jacobson. “It’s an homage to both the film world and the arts community of South Florida.” Tickets for the event are $250 per person and are available for purchase at www.gablescinema.com or by calling (786) 472-2249.

Haitian Heritage Museum Celebrates 10 Year Anniversary

Miami, FL. (January 22, 2014) – The Haitian Heritage Museum, a not for profit organization that is committed to highlighting and preserving Haiti’s rich culture, is hosting their 10th Annual Gala that celebrates a decade since first opening the museums doors in 2004.
The Haitian Heritage Museum will celebrate a Decade of Cultural Enlightenment at their annual fundraising gala. The gala will celebrate a decade of the museum serving as a platform for the Haitian culture through education and art. The gala will also honor and celebrate the achievements of community leaders, philanthropists and thespians directly impacting the Haitian community. MIAMI – February 12, 2014 —The Marlins Foundation announces the Inaugural Jack McKeon Marlins Celebrity Golf Classic to be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at Crandon Golf Course Key Biscayne. Previously known as the Marlins Celebrity Golf Classic, the Marlins will pay tribute to Marlins former Manager John “Jack” McKeon, a two-time National League Manager of the Year and 2003 World Series Champion.

Marlins personalities scheduled to attend include: President David Samson, President of Baseball Operations Michael Hill, Vice President and General Manager Dan Jennings, Marlins Manager Mike Redmond, along with Marlins players and other community leaders.

Proceeds from the golf tournament will benefit the Miracle League of Miami-Dade County; a Marlins Charity Partner. The Miracle League is a nationally recognized baseball program for children with special needs. The mission is to provide children with developmental, intellectual, mental and/or physical challenges the opportunity to play baseball on special custom designed rubber turf fields that accommodate wheelchairs and walkers.

“We look forward to honoring Jack for his contributions to baseball in South Florida. Thanks to the generous donations of individuals and organizations, we can continue to impact the lives of children through baseball,” said Mike Redmond, Marlins Manager and Event Chair. “This event will give participants the opportunity to play alongside Marlins players as well as donate to a worthy cause.”

A native of Bronx, New York, he was a U.S. Air Force veteran, developer, restaurateur, businessman, and civil rights activist who played violin and guitar, pitched baseball, had a great left-handed hook shot, and created numerous collages bringing historical photographs to three dimensional form.

Following Your Own Sense of Justice is a retrospective of his rarely seen artwork and is a true testament to the legacy of a man that proved to be one of Miami’s greatest mavericks of civic equality and community building. The exhibition is more than just an presentation of one man’s avocation. It’s the portrayal of a socially conscious movement, created by a singular vision, devoted to living equally for all.

Inspired by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the Beatles went to an ashram in India, practiced Transcendental Meditation with its founder, and awakened to the Transcendent within them. A number of songs about the higher realities of Life flowed out of them in that meditative peace—songs that helped to spiritually awaken a whole generation. As you hear these songs in class, they may help awaken you, too.
Cary Bayer taught Transcendental Meditation for more than three decades and also trained dozens of its teachers, as well. In 2010, he developed Higher Self Healing Meditation. In this enlightening class, he plays a number of Beatles’ songs that were influenced by their spiritual insights; teaches a cleansing breath meditation that they practiced; and guides you through a mantra meditation that suggests the effortlessness nature of the meditation that the Beatles sang about and that he teaches. He’ll also present an introduction to a simple meditation technique that, in the ancient Vedic tradition, is always transmitted one on one. This meditation could be learned at a later date, and practiced daily for 20 minutes at home to free you of stress twice a day, contact the higher Self regularly, and make the great peace and freedom that results a part of your everyday life.

A knitting class designed for the beginner to the advanced knitter. For the beginners you will learn the basics, for the advanced you design your own squares. Our goal is to create blankets for charity. It is amazing how a 10” x 10” square can help someone in need.
This is a TCC member community workshop. The idea derives from my “Eating Club That Sometimes Knits” group back home in Idaho. It all started with a charity project to create blankets for a women’s shelter and turned into a monthly girls’ night of good food, good times, and great women. Come out continue the charity.

FIESTAS DE LA CALLE SAN SEBASTIAN COMES TO MIAMI

The infamous street party held in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico brings its traditions to Miami for a high-spirited party in Brickell.
Just when you thought the holidays were over, one of the best festivals from Puerto Rico comes to Miami to offer one last holiday party bash.
The Fiestas de la Calle San Sebastian, an infamous street party held on Calle San Sebastian in Old San Juan, brings its traditions to Miami for a high-spirited party filled with the best of music, food, dancing, artisan market, and of course, lots of drinking.
The celebration will be held on Saturday, January 18th from 2pm to 4am at Havana 1957 Brickell located at 1451 S. Miami Ave. Hosted by Julian Gil, visitors may enjoy complimentary samples of Rums of Puerto Rico from 6pm to 12am, along with all day live music by Rebecca Pla and Paradiso, Puerto Rico’s hit-maker DJ Phred and Pleneros with many more surprises. Are largest contributors for La Calle De San Sebastian 2nd annual celebration are Rums of Puerto Rico, Heineken and Titan with will be featuring all of their products.
From those humble beginnings, the festival has grown exponentially and draws hundreds of thousands of tourists and locals to the old city. It also attracts a small army of artisans, musicians, performers, food stalls and other vendors, making it one serious block party that has become a religious, cultural, and social event unlike any other in Puerto Rico, certainly worth the celebration.

12 Nights Miami: Music of Judith Shatin
A profile concert of acclaimed composer Judith Shatin (www.judithshatin.com) will feature a mix of acoustic and electroacoustic music performed by some of South Florida’s most outstanding performers. These include Christopher Graham (cello), José Lopez (piano), Aaron Merritt (clarinet) and Laura Wilcox (viola). The music ranges from For The Birds (cello and electronics made from birdsong from Yellowstone) to Cherry Blossom and a Wrapped Thing; After Hokusai (clarinet and delicate electronics) to Penelope’s Song (viola and electronics made from weaving sounds) to Chai Variations on Eliahu HaNavi, a set of eighteen variations for solo piano based on the popular tune often sung at the Jewish Sabbath. And, to wrap it up, there will be a performance of Tape Music∞, for any number of participants and electronics made from playing with all kinds of tape – such as duct, packing, etc. The performers are students from the New World School of the Arts and Florida International University, conducted by the composer. Judith Shatin is known for her colorful and dramatic music, called ‘… highly inventive music on every level: hugely enjoyable and deeply involving, with a constant sense of surprise…” by The Washington Post. Her music engages our social, cultural and physical environments. Shatin is no stranger to Miami audiences, having served as composer-in-residence for the Deering Estate Chamber Players series for several years, with additional performances at the Bass and Wolfsonian Museums.

(in)tangibility from New York-based artist Lauren Pascarella is the third in a series of five exhibitions presented by the MDC Museum of Art + Design and its alumni exhibition series, swing/SPACE/miami. In (in)tangibility, the artist’ s objective is to present, through photography, every object within the gallery including the environment itself as surface. The exhibition includes a site specific multi-media installation flares, a collaborative project with fellow Brooklyn-based artist and NWSA alumnus Giselle Zatonyl.

swing/SPACE/miami is MDC Museum of Art + Design’s focused exhibition series featuring the work of distinguished Miami Dade College and New World School of the Arts alumni. The ongoing exhibition series presents five solo or group exhibitions per year, providing a platform to re-engage former alumni and foster opportunities with the community of young and emerging artists throughout South Florida.

The 44th Annual “Parada de los Reyes Magos” (Three Kings Day Parade) presented by Univision Radio Miami radio stations, WAMR – Amor 107.5 FM, WAQI – Radio Mambi 710AM, WRTO – MIX 98.3 FM and Univision America – 1140 AM, will feature entertainment for all ages.

National League Rookie of the Year, Jose Fernandez, will be honored as the Grand Marshal of the 2014 Three Kings Day Parade.

It’s time for Miami to represent in this event that’s been going on for over 10 years and took place in 60 cities last year. I think we should start at Government Center or Brickell and ride to Dadeland and back. Or park in the huge fec public parking lot just east of government center.

An original 2001 watercolor of Abraham Lincoln by legendary singer and painter Tony Bennett will go on view January 25 at HistoryMiami to mark the third annual Lincoln symposium co-sponsored by the museum and The Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Foundation (ALBF).

The symposium, titled Abraham Lincoln and the Constitution, will take place on Saturday, January 25 from 2:00-4:30 P.M. Pulitzer Prize-winning dean of Civil War historians, James M. McPherson, will be the keynote speaker, to be followed by a discussion among a panel of experts on the Constitutional and humanitarian issues that confronted Americans during the Civil War.

The symposium is free and open to the public and will be followed by a reception made possible by ALBF Board Member Jean Soman of Pinecrest, Florida, and her husband William Soman. This year FIU College Law joins the event as a co-sponsor, and attendance at the symposium will provide CLE credits to attorneys.

Panelists include: Thomas Campbell, ALBF Treasurer and leading authority on both the legal aspects of the war and the role of Chicago during the conflict; Ediberto Roman, professor at FIU Law; Noah Weisbord, associate professor at FIU Law; and Frank J. Williams, ALBF Board Member, Lincoln scholar, and former chief justice of the Rhode Island Supreme Court. ALBF Chairman Harold Holzer will introduce the sessions and moderate the panel.

ARC Broward, a not-for-profit human services organization dedicated to providing services to children and adults with developmental disabilities, hosts its third annual superb fundraising event—Delish 2014, presented by The Wasie Foundation. In an effort to join the battle against childhood cancer, South Florida smooth jazz artist Luis Alas will host a concert at the Miami Baptist Church West Kendall Amphitheater on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. to benefit Stand Foundation, a 501 (3) non-profit organization started in memory of Alexandra “Alex” Scott, who succumbed to the disease in 2004.

“I have had a blessed life, not of money and wealth but of amazing opportunities and this talent which I always love to put it to use to help others,” shares Alas. “Cancer took my father from me and it was a tragic loss, but when I read about stories like Alex’s and Bella it hurts me, not only the suffering the children go through, but of the parents, family and loved ones around them.”

Alas and a cast of amazing musicians and vocalists from around the country will be performing in a romantic, smooth jazz at the concert deemed “Romance by Sax.” He released two singles in 2013, one called “Mr. Magic” and the other instrumental remake of the pop ballad “You’re My Everything”, which got as high as #55 on the ReverbNation Jazz chart.

Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004). In 2000, 4-year-old Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since Alex held that first stand, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, complete with thousands of supporters across the country carrying on her legacy of hope.

To date, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (www.alexslemonade.org), a registered 501(c)3 charity, has raised more than $60 million toward fulfilling Alex’s dream of finding a cure, funding over 275 research projects nationally. To be considered as a 2014 Marlins Charity Partner, organizations must provide direct and unique programming for youth through education, arts and baseball related programming, more specifically by providing unique experiences for kids in schools, parks and on the water.

“During the first two years at Marlins Park, the Marlins Foundation invested over $1.9 million in philanthropy in South Florida. In addition, over 14,000 hours of volunteer service was completed through Marlins Ayudan. Virginia Poundstone: BOG—MIA
Locust Projects is pleased to present BOG-MIA, a new installation by New York-based sculptor Virginia Poundstone, known for her exquisitely crafted sculptures that examine the art historical, scientific and economic significance of flowers. The works in this exhibition take their material and formal cues from the logistical machinations of the cut flower industry in Colombia. Miami is the main point of entry for the products of this industry: retail bouquets containing carnations, roses and baby’s breath, which enter Poundstone’s practice as artifacts of a vast industrial system producing the aesthetics of popular emotion.

At Locust Projects, Poundstone describes this vast nature-transforming system through her first video installation, which she likens to a landscape painting. The impressionistic sequences, shot in fields, greenhouses and shipping facilities, set the ambiance for a series of new sculptural works consisting of printed screens, aluminum panels and eternalized flowers. The sculptures are supported by platforms made of brightly printed cardboard shipping boxes scavenged from the importer’s warehouse near Miami International Airport.

Locust Projects is pleased to present Nobody knows me better than you, an exhibition by Miami-based artist Alan Gutierrez. Centered around a series of paintings, the exhibition utilizes a suite of theatrical production equipment as an arbitrary means to reframe the exhibition space as a site of production. Throughout the course of the exhibition, the artist will change the installation into different iterations, embracing process and the malleable nature of rehearsal.
