Global art agency and gallery, Art Bastion Miami, will be showcasing exclusive paintings from Transiens et Vanitas, the inaugural Miami solo exhibition of Charlie Masson, March 26th through April 18th, 2015. The opening reception will take place on Thursday, March 26th, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The Transiens et Vanitas exhibition consists of 68 works made in a variety of media, including previously unseen assemblages, paintings on panels, as well as paintings on familiar packaging materials.

The artwork highlights vanity and superficiality in online social media and popular culture, and simultaneously serve as reminders of the transience of trends and materials people assign value to. The works pay tribute to influencers that have shaped today’s world.

The transience of life, values and pursuits is the dominant motif throughout the Transiens et Vanitas exhibition. Following tradition stemming from Flemish artists of the 17th century, Masson also incorporates the philosophy of “vanitas” in his works. His works are represented in private collections around the world that include those of HRH Prince of Wales and Baron Cavendish of Furness.

Masson’s first series of paintings titled #vanity (I-V), is in a format that mimics the interface of Instagram and the works are painted in a style that recalls pop-art through usage of bold lines and Ben-Day dots and calls into question the phenomenon of “selfies.”

The series of small oil paintings Avatar (I-IX) are intimate portrayals of the artist’s friends taken from images that they chose as representations of themselves for use in various social media. Painted in a direct manner, Masson injects importance to these modern-day self-appointed miniature online portraits. Accompanying these works, Masson also includes a self-portrait of his reflection on a computer screen, a nod to the intangible virtual life that we each compose.

Opposite the nine paintings of avatars, are nine deceased famous personalities who have left an imprint on today’s world portrayed in “Lament Boxes,” tissue boxes with floral motifs whose openings serve as frames for illuminated ghost-like portraits.

Art Bastion was founded by internationally recognized art collector and curator, Sebastiano Varoli, with the mission of discovering and representing artists around the world and introducing their artwork to broader audiences. Varoli has collaborated with renowned art initiatives ranging from the Musée D’Orsay in Paris to the Royal Ballet in London and the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice.

The Artisan Lounge is proud to present Toa Castellanos and Alessandra Santos for their duo exhibit entitled Unsuited. This exhibit engages in an exploration of the aspects that come together to define us as a person. It is common that people use their careers as a major defining factor of who they are and their worth. By taking suits, a common symbol of the corporate, and deconstructing them, the work reveals the true nature of that which once was manufactured:

Save the Date and join us April 3rd, 2015 from 6pm-10pm at the Artisan Lounge for our Unsuited exhibit.

Photographs of Historic Little Farm House on 3/8/15

Historic Little Farm House on Sunday, March 8, 2105.

“Heralded by Miami historians and design enthusiasts alike, (formerly known as The Magic City Farm) is, by any measure, a unique place. Built in the 1920’s, located on a bend of the Little River section of the Miami River on the edge of Little Haiti, is an eclectic one-acre oasis consisting of a 1,200 square foot farm house, two story boathouse and six colorful cottages featuring rustic furnishings – all made out of Dade County pine and rescued from a trailer park down the road.”

“A throw back in time, wildlife freely roam on or about the property, from the manatees that drift by slowly on the river close to the three hundred foot sea wall, to the ducks, chickens and iguanas that can be seen as they wander about on the lush grounds, a large area planted with native and exotic trees. Each of the eight structures on the property is charming in its own way, some painted in cheerful Caribbean colors, others in varying tones of white.  The cabins, some of which have kitchens and bathrooms, and the boathouse, which has both, have been leased for short stays.”

The property (281 N.E. 84 Street, Miami, Florida 33138) has been featured in photo and film shoots and is available for events. For bookings, please contact the new owner, Gabriella von Rosen at info@miamifarmhouse.com.

Miguel Rodez’s gives us a glimpse into his fantasy world in his new exhibit “Spring Forward” through a collection of paintings and monotypes that will be on view just in time for the Spring Equinox. Emphasizing the sensuality of flowers is nothing new. Georgia O’Keefe and others have done it in the past. However, Rodez makes an impressive entrance into this genre with flowers that are no ordinary blooms. Using what some have described as magical realism, he creates sexy flowers, endowed with much more than just beauty. These lusty creations manage to be bold without being vulgar. Experience the fantasy on Saturday, March 21,

Every nine seconds of each school day, a young person drops out of high school in the U.S., and nearly one-third fail to graduate on time. For the past 26 years, Communities In Schools of Miami (CIS of Miami) has been a driving force in collaborating with Miami-Dade County Public Schools to improve educational outcomes for Miami students.

CIS of Miami’s largest fundraiser is its annual gala, and this year’s event on Saturday, May 2nd, will commemorate CIS of Miami’s 26 years of service. The theme of the 2015 gala is “Over The Rainbow: Where Dreams Come True,” which pays tribute to the successful journeys more than 20,000 students have taken toward their future.

The event takes place in the Chopin Ballroom at the Intercontinental Miami Hotel overlooking downtown Miami’s skyline and Biscayne Bay. The evening starts with a sunset cocktail hour where supporters can bid on luxury, silent auction items including vacation packages, jewelry, restaurant gift certificates, spa treatments and more.

A three-course dinner will follow accompanied by live music and entertainment by CIS of Miami students.

Tickets for the annual philanthropic event are $200 each, and all proceeds directly benefit CIS of Miami. In 2014, CIS’ gala raised more than $100,000 to fund dropout prevention programs including tutoring, mentoring and financial literacy to children in grades k-12.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.cismiami.org or by calling 305-252-5444.

Through a school-based coordinator, CIS connects students and their families to needed community resources, and provides comprehensive wrap-around services including mentoring, tutoring, life skills development, case management, counseling, job readiness and more. CIS of Miami serves more than 20,000 students each year and is an affiliate of the nation’s leading dropout prevention organization, whose model has been proven to both increase on-time graduation rates and reduce dropout rates. Festival Closing Event
Ballet Flamenco La Rosa in the World Premiere of a new Flamenco dance drama by Ilisa Rosal featuring live music and guest artists from Spain.

This Spring, Miami Dance Festival celebrates its 12th anniversary, kicking off Saturday, April 4, 2015 with two performances by Momentum Dance Company at the Colony Theater in Miami Beach. Established by the Founder & Artistic Director of Momentum Dance Company, Delma Iles, the Festival announces this year’s artistic works to be a joint effort of her company and other dance companies such as Carolyn Dorfman Dance from New York City and Ballet Flamenco La Rosa from Miami. Their combined mission is to move and inspire attendees with newly choreographed performances in addition to the classics.

This season’s Festival promises an intriguing selection of dance companies and dance styles including modern dance, water ballet, a family day, a community dance event, as well as panel discussions and a film screening, and, a Festival staple and audience favorite, Flamenco dance. All age groups can participate and many events offer complimentary admission.

Carolyn Dorfman Dance known for its athleticism, dramatic nuance, and musical range, returns to the Festival (they previously performed in 2007) with the Southeastern U.S. premiere of Dorfman’s highly acclaimed Interior Designs, as well as The Klezmer Sketch and Narcoleptic Lovers by Doug Elkins. The company will also give a free lecture/performance at Miami Dade College, Wolfson Campus titled Art and Legacy/The Power of Art to Transform Lives.

Delma Iles will herself premiere a new work in the Festival’s opening event – Momentum Dance Company’s Spring Season at the Colony Theater: Birds of the Inner Eye. “The works contain a delicate spiritual quality while also managing to be strictly disciplined which resonates with the soul of this Festival,” explains Iles.

The dance will be performed partially in silence and partially to selections of piano works by French composer Olivier Messiaen, a composer Iles has used several times in the past. The pieces will be played live by Guest Artist Dr. Alan Ngim. The program also includes a new work by veteran dancer Emily Noe, who has been with Momentum for five years. This year, she has created a larger scale piece that experiments with partnering and lifts using the entire dance company. Lastly, the program includes Anna Sokolow’s 1985 work, Poems of Scriabin, created especially for Momentum while she was in Miami. The Festival continues with a showing of dances by independent choreographers hosted by PAN, Performing Arts Network, as part of their 20th Anniversary season.

For a rousing finale, the Festival chose the World Premiere of El Padre, a new flamenco dance drama by Miami-based Ballet Flamenco La Rosa founded by Artistic Director, and acclaimed choreographer Ilisa Rosal. Rosal has made an international name for herself by taking flamenco into dramatic narrative using important literary works as a point of departure. El Padre is inspired by August Strindberg’s “The Father.” The performance features live music and guest artists from Spain, and Sweden, the birthplace of the playwright, collaborating to create this groundbreaking new work as part of their 30th Anniversary season. The passion and drama of this classic story, rooted in Nineteenth Century class and gender struggles, unite with Flamenco guitar, singing and dance to create unforgettable theater magic.

Miami Dance Festival is made possible with support from: the National Endowment for the Arts, the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs and the Florida Arts Council, the Children’s Trust, the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Mayor and Board of County Commissioners, the City of Miami Beach and the Miami Beach Cultural Affairs Council, the City of Coral Gables and the Coral Gables Arts Council, Citizens Interested in Arts, WLRN Public Radio, the Miami-Dade County Public Library System, Miami Dade College, Wolfson Campus Department of Art and Philosophy, PAN, the Miami Beach Cinematheque, the National Hotel.

Eats & Beats 2015

Eats N Beats 2015 30

After an unplanned tour of Little Haiti in Miami last night, my wife and I gave in to technology and plugged in the address of The Moore Building in Miami’s Design District into the phone. After all, we didn’t want to be late to the second annual Eats & Beats culinary and musical event taking place from 7:30 until midnight!

Whew! Just made it on time, and someone was nice enough to leave a parking space right in front of the building for us. We met the organizers on the way in and then got started tasting some great dishes, sampling some terrific spirits and cocktails, and being entertained with some great music and ambiance.

The pink lights flashing on the very unique architecture of The Moore Building made me feel like I was back at a club in Paris I visited a few times in the 90’s. Eats & Beats took place on all 4 floors, which each have a 360 degree balcony overlooking the center of the building. Pretty cool!

Eats N Beats 2015 8

We met some very nice people, both vendors and other guests alike. If I were forced to pick some favorites, I’d have to choose Chef Adrianne Calvo (who also made a spectacular dessert at the Five Cubed event a few days ago), the food from Segundo Muelle Peruvian Restaurant, Red The Steakhouse, Brother Jimmy’s, and Havana 1957. Oh, and the cupcakes from Ana Paz Cakes and Slice of Art!

And on the spirits side of things, I loved the Zafra rum, both on the rocks and as a cocktail. Not to be outdone were the terrific mojitos that the folks from Nikki Beach were making. Not only did both of those vendors make a great tasting drink, but they went all out with their presentation and overall experience.

Eats N Beats 2015 35

IT Espresso Lounge also made a very nice prosecco based drink, quite refreshing. And as the “beer guy,” I have to give a shout out to the only beer vendor there–Modelo! I personally would have like to have seen a few more strong brands, especially considering the emergence of craft beer on the Miami scene. But hey, that’s probably just me.

All the vendors were friendly, knowledgeable, and wanted to share their products with you. And to the army of people that made the event happen, congratulations! Can’t wait for Eats & Beats 2016!

We’re so excited to present a selection of works by an extraordinary artist Alicia Viera. At 96 years old Alicia, continues to create art everyday as she has since she was a young girl studying at Cuba’s legendary San Alejandro Fine Arts Academy. We hope that you will join us on Saturday, February 21 during the Bird Road Art Walk to meet the artist and view her works.

The exhibit features a selection of figurative drawings and paintings from the 1950s to present day. Some of the work still bears a Cuban seal authenticating the artists ownership and granting permission to take it out of the country.

But the focus of Viera’s exhibit is her pictorial language of geometric abstraction and her exploration and mastery of new mediums. Bold, fluid, geometric forms and undulations of her previous work on paper and canvas are reinterpreted and presented in the form of ceramic sculptures, boxes and wall hangings.

All work is available for sale.

MANO Fine Art Project Space is the working studio of Miami-based artist MANO and an exhibition and project space for art related events. MANO Fine Art is one of the founding members of the Bird Road Art Walk that is held on the third Saturday of each month.

Record 97 new boating products honored for innovation – Show-goers can get a first glimpse at some of the industry’s best new products, recognized through the boat show’s Innovation Awards, which honor manufacturers and suppliers who bring new products to market. This year’s program received the highest amount of entries on record.
The new Accessory Pavilion, located outside the Miami Beach Convention Center, will showcase thousands of the latest boating gadgets and gear, plus engines and electronics from more than 85 companies.

“This is surely a year that our loyal fans will do a double-take at the program and new attendees will find plenty of events to choose from,” predicts Festival Founder & Director Lee Brian Schrager, who also serves as Vice President of Corporate Communications & National Events at Southern Wine & Spirits of America, Inc. “We have made significant changes to upgrade the experience at our signature Whole Foods Market Grand Tasting Village and are taking our beloved event, The Q, to the next level by partnering with Meatopia.”

The Festival kicks off on Thursday, February 19 with Ronzoni Pasta’s 100th Anniversary Seaside Spaghetti Soirée sponsored by MIAMI magazine hosted by Debi Mazar & Gabriele Corcos, a celebration of pasta and all forms of Italian-American cuisine under the Festival’s signature white tents in the sand behind South Beach’s iconic Delano. These same sparkling white sands will be the foundation for the brand new version of the Festival’s treasured celebration of all things grilled, braised and barbecued as Meatopia: The Q Revolution presented by Creekstone Farms hosted by Guy Fieri curated by Josh Ozersky on Saturday, February 21.

The Festival is taking significant strides in 2015 to upgrade its landmark Whole Foods Market Grand Tasting Village featuring MasterCard Grand Tasting Tents & KitchenAid® Culinary Demonstrations. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The 11th of EVERY MONTH
Please Join us Wednesday, February 11th, 2015; Higher Frequency #SpreadLove Event

Capture the frequency with us as we transmute, transform, and transmit higher vibrations through South Florida’s Most inspired musicians and poetically inclined artists who will take to the mic to communicate, share & and In-lighten. This event is for guests to explore a psyche enhancement experience through artistic expressions fitting for the OPEN MINDs. The message of Higher Frequency is one of positive promotion and uniting others to do the same through 4MK #SpreadLove global campaign. An outlet created to vibrate with the artistic community with some of Miami’s most creative underground network of local artists from emcees, singers, poets, artists, designers and more. Unique in its own right, this event is dedicated to giving back to the community and participating in charitable causes and activities globally.

Through 4MK’s #SpreadLove campaign, THIS MONTH, Hosted by Miss Universe Jamaica 2012, Higher Frequency will fund raise for TRENCH TOWN FOR LIFE, a program that is now raising funds to build a new library in Boys Town School in Jamaica to help inspire the youth to read. With the contribution of Sunshine Youth Foundation founded by Miss Universe Jamaica 2012, Chantal Zaky; these young leaders in Trench Town will be In-lightened through the wisdom, knowledge and hearts shared through local supporters, ultimately reaching Global recognition. Higher Frequency will do its part by spreading awareness on Trench Town For Life, rising the love frequency for the youth in Jamaica, and raising funds for the much needed library in Boys Town School. During this coming 11th of the month, we ask for local South Floridians to come and join us as we celebrate love for the youth by donating to Trench Town For Life to help reach their goal of $9,000 for the library project which includes the costs to treat the space for termites, clean out, renovate, decorate, and equip the library space, as well as ship book donations from the UK and USA to Jamaica.

During the event, guests will have the privilege of participating in our raffle to win gifts from our local sponsors. 100% of the proceeds will go to aiding Trench Town For Life.

It’s a pleasure to invite you to join Trench Town For Life for their 2015 Library Drive benefiting Boys Town School in Kingston, Jamaica. The children who attend the school range from age 4, right up to 14 years old, however they do not have adequate reading materials, nor do they have a library on site. As a result, less than 50% of the school’s students meet the national literacy standard. Therefore, the establishment of an on site library is imperative and will certainly impact the faculty, students and community in a significant way. This effort is born from the philosophy that all leaders are avid readers, and the world community must invest in and continue to develop tomorrow’s leaders, today.

Crazy for Meninas… By popular request we’ve extended the exhibit “Meninas Unwrapped”. Join MANO Fine Art on Saturday, January 17th during the Bird Road Art Walk for a last look at the popular exhibition “Meninas Unwrapped” featuring work by Daniel Garcia and MANO.

About the exhibit
“Meninas Unwrapped”, is a nod to the popularity of Diego Velazquez’s ICONIC motif interpreted by Daniel Garcia and MANO. Velazquez would be pleased.

The interpretation of the world’s masterpieces is hardly a new phenomenon. Artists often look to the past to learn from the old masters. In “Meninas Unwrapped” contemporary artists: Daniel Garcia and MANO take on Diego Velazquez, interpreting his famed 1656 painting, “Las Meninas”, considered one of the greatest masterpieces ever painted.

The exhibit is not only a matter of looking back at the past but also at the popularity of the La Menina, it seems that every generation has made Velazquez’s “meninas” a reflection of their own, hundreds of artists from Picasso to Vik Muniz have been inspired by the works’ enigmatic qualities. Velazquez would be pleased

MANO Fine Art Project Space is the working studio of Miami-based artist MANO and an exhibition and project space for art related events. MANO Fine Art is one of the founding members of the Bird Road Art Walk that is held on the third Saturday of each month.

Miguel Rodez Art Projects presents Beyond Innocence featuring the work of Sergio Chavez. Not your typical sales pitch: Sergio Chavez does not try to impress one with astute use of materials. He is not adept at creating subtle gradient color shifts. No. He is not a master draftsman either. Instead, Sergio Chavez is a master of enchantment. Those who focus only on academic refinement may be repulsed by his work. Some may say that their little daughter can do this. The fact is no one’s little daughter can do or actually does this. He does! There is a lot more going on than meets the eye. Although his style may render him vulnerable to harsh criticism from the academic crowd, he consistently and incessantly puts out work that, either makes us think or that delights us with his unique provocative charm. He uses humor, satire and humility to hook us in and then make us think before we even realize what just happened. This devotion to visually communicate what comes from his soul, in a poetic, child-like and disarming style, regardless of what critics may think, is what being an artist is all about. Sixty-one of his pieces will be on view and available at extremely reasonable prices at Miguel Rodez Art Projects.

The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County and The Peter London Global Dance Company, Inc. (PLGDC) are proud to present Jazz Love Night in the Carnival Studio Theater on December 12-13, 2014 at 7:30 pm each night. Peter London serves as the founder and artistic director of Miami’s emerging multicultural dance troupe, who will produce the two-night engagement accompanied by a soundtrack of celebrated 20th Century jazz masters. The dance sampler features new works from six choreographers, including one from London himself, as part of the Company’s inaugural Victoria London Choreographers Showcase.

Jazz Love Night is the Company’s culminating performance of a season consisting of two community productions staged at the Little Haiti Cultural Center, where they serve as artist in residence. Set on the stunning waterfront of Biscayne Bay, Mondrian South Beach captures all the heat, intensity, energy and vibe of the original Mondrian in Los Angeles. Revolutionary Dutch designer Marcel Wanders’ whimsical and visionary style for the hotel is an homage to “Sleeping Beauty’s Castle.” In the soaring lobby, where the scene is about “see-and-be-seen”, floor-to-ceiling windows offer spectacular views of the Bay, while the eye is drawn to the masterpiece of the room–an iconic, signature “floating staircase.” Prepare for a night out at our signature South Beach spa, agua, or work off last night’s indulgence at our world-class gym. Enjoy a meal indoors or al fresco at our a restaurant focused on locally sourced ingredients, or a specialty cocktail at Sunset Lounge. Shop at our Semi Automatic machine for unique items and necessities, curated by BASE. Also on site is a private marina exclusively for guests’ use. Located on newly-fashionable West Avenue, Mondrian is just minutes from the center of South Beach, downtown Miami, Miami Design District, Wynwood Arts District, Venetian Causeway, Lincoln Road, Ocean Drive and Espanola Way.

THINK YOU KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT THE BEATLES?
HISTORYMIAMI TO HOST PANEL MODERATED BY MAGIC 102.7’S JOE JOHNSON

MIAMI – NOV. 14, 2014 – Smithsonian affiliate HistoryMiami will host a panel discussion, “Think You Know Everything About The Beatles?” moderated by Magic 102.7 FM’s radio personality and Beatles expert Joe Johnson, Dec. 14 at 1 p.m. The panel will explore the frenzy that ensued when the Fab Four made their historic visit to Miami 50 years ago.

Panelists for the December discussion include Ed Rudy, creator of “The Beatles American Tour with Ed Rudy” interview albums, Bob Saxon, known for his iconic sneak into the afternoon rehearsal of The Ed Sullivan Show at the Deauville Hotel, and Rick Shaw, the Miami radio legend who was the first deejay to play The Beatles on the radio in the “Magic City.”

Fresh from a European Beatles cruise, Johnson cannot wait to exercise his area of expertise. “I’m thrilled to share our Miami connect to The Beatles at HistoryMiami and introduce three amazing men who will tell their stories from the eight days The Beatles spent in Miami, February of ’64,” he said. “What a fab time it was.”

HistoryMiami is temporarily home to Ladies and Gentlemen…The Beatles! – a traveling exhibition, curated by The GRAMMY Museum® and Fab Four Exhibits, presenting more than 400 pieces of Beatles Memorabilia. The exhibit explores the impact the four lads from Liverpool had on American pop culture, from early 1964 through mid-1966.

“The response to Ladies & Gentlemen…The Beatles! exhibition has been nothing short of fantastic! The frenzy the Fab Four created 50 years ago in Miami is back and visitors have been having a great time at HistoryMiami,” said Stuart Chase, HistoryMiami Museum Director/COO.

To RSVP for the panel discussion, call (305) 375-1601 or online at https://historymiami.wufoo.com/forms/think-you-know-everything-about-the-beatles/. “Think You Know Everything About The Beatles” panel discussion is free with paid museum admission ($8 Adults, $7 Seniors and Students, $5 for children ages 6 – 12, and free for HistoryMiami members and students under 6).

YoungArts and MoMA PS1 partner once again, this time to present Zero Tolerance: Miami curated by MoMA PS1 Director and Chief Curator at Large of MoMA, Klaus Biesenbach, with MoMA PS1 Curatorial Assistant Margaret Aldredge. Named for the 1990s policy under which New York City took a tough stance against vice and crime, Zero Tolerance: Miami brings together works by artists from across the globe that address tensions between freedom and control. Following Zero Tolerance’s initial presentation in New York, the exhibition at YoungArts makes these global concerns relevant to Miami by inviting artists whose work reflects issues of political dissidence, urban redevelopment, social policy and gay rights to participate. Taken together, the artists represented in Zero Tolerance: Miami continue YoungArts’ commitment to cultural vitality while presenting art of a charged and ambivalent nature, responding to concerns specific in place and time.

The artists in Zero Tolerance: Miami include: YoungArts alumnus Doug Aitken, ACT UP New York, Joseph Beuys, Mircea Cantor, Chim↑Pom, Igor Grubić, Sharon Hayes, Deborah Kelly, Amal Kenawy, Yoko Ono, Pussy Riot, Christoph Schlingensief, Voina, and many more.

HISTORY

“In November 2012, the inaugural Tech Bash was held to celebrate the launch of Windows 8 and the new OEM computer lines with an interactive, food and drink fueled party with over 4,000 attendees.

In May 2013, a “Tech Summit” was held in conjunction with a traditional training symposium, showcasing 50 vendors in a tradeshow format with over 1,500 business and consumer attendees. Light fare and cocktails plus various activities in tow.

Our customers desire for more tech events in South Florida, combined with the ever-changing face of consumer electronics, we determined that a combination of the two would provide a great customer experience. O. Ascanio Gallery is opening a major exhibition of work by celebrated illustrator, sculptor and public artist Jorge Blanco. Over three decades, Blanco has built a following of devotees and collectors. First with his beloved comic strip “El Naufrago,” (The Castaway), and later through his large-scale geometrical sculptures, 26 of which have been commissioned publicly in the United States, Latin America and Asia.

Jorge Blanco’s signature creations offer universal appeal; they are testaments to the glory of passion and optimism of everyday life. He translates poetic humor as an illustrator into vivacious sculptures that engage viewers with an evocative and distinct choreography. Bright primary colors and geometric shapes form athletes, fruit, animals and abstractions.

This retrospective is bringing together diverse works across mediums showcasing Blanco’s most recognizable projects. Included are a series of watercolors inspired by “The Castaway,” his graphic and illustrative work in children’s storybooks, big and small collectible sculptures, and pieces from his decorative design line, such as coffee tables, benches, design mugs and more.

Jorge Blanco lives and works in Sarasota, Florida. In addition to his public art commissions, he has created numerous works for private collectors in Brazil, Canada, Switzerland, France, Venezuela, Uruguay, Argentina, Germany, Belgium, China, Indonesia, Japan, the Dominican Republic and the USA. He’s the recipient of multiple accolades, most recent is the DCOTA Stars of Design 2013.

The interpretation of the world’s masterpieces is hardly a new phenomenon. Artists often look to the past to learn from the old masters. In “Some Are Meninas” contemporary artists: Daniel Garcia and MANO take on Diego Velazquez, interpreting his famed 1656 painting, “Las Meninas”, considered one of the greatest masterpieces ever painted.

The exhibit is not only a matter of looking back at the past but also a nod to the popularity of the iconic motif, it seems that every generation has made Velazquez’s “meninas” a reflection of their own, hundreds of artists from Picasso to Vik Muniz have been inspired by the works’ enigmatic qualities. Velazquez would be pleased

As a celebration of the cultural diversity of the city and the musical richness that exists around the world, South Florida Friends of Classical Music presents the 3rd Edition of the Miami Music Festival from Around the World.

The South Florida Friends of Classical Music, announces the third edition of “Miami Music Festival from Around the World” (formerly known as Miami World Music Festival) which will take place from October, 24 to 26, in the Wertheim Center for the Performing Arts of the Florida International University (FIU).

The 2014 Festival, under its new name, will embark on an international sonic adventure. Four shows in which music lovers will come together to enjoy a wide scope of musical expressions ranging from well-known opera arias to the vibrant African rhythms and explosive piano duels.

This year the festival, under the artistic direction of Dr. Adolfo Vidal, has brought together both musicians of great experience and international recognition as new talents.

Opening the Festival, two virtuoso pianists Michael Linville and Adolfo Vidal, joined by percussionists of the New World Symphony, will perform Sonata for two Pianos and Percussion by the great Hungarian composer Béla Bartók and contagious avant-garde tangos by Argentina’s Astor Piazzolla.

On Saturday, after a sold-out at the last festival Venus Rising returns with a new show: “One Pulse, Many Beats” a mixture of dance, rhythms and sounds from Africa, the Caribbean, Brazil and the Middle East.

On Sunday a double round of concerts begins with a spectacular journey through the world of opera. “Women in Opera” features five sopranos and mezzo-sopranos singing ravishing duos, trios, recognized arias.

The festival closes with the “Monster Piano Explosion,” a marathon of solos, four-hand throw-downs, two pianos duels and other surprises that will blow your senses, with 20 accomplished pianists from the South of Florida.

All proceeds from the Miami World Music Festival will be benefit educational programs for young by South Florida Friends of Classical Music. The Festival is funded in part with the support of the Department of Cultural Affairs of Miami – Dade and the Cultural Affairs Council, the Mayor of Miami – Dade County and the County Board of Commissioners. Sponsored in part by the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs and the Florida Council on Arts and Culture. Other grants by South Arts in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and Florida Division of Cultural Affairs. It also counts with the support of FIU School of Music, FloridaConcertFlyers.com and other individuals.
