With a run of songs extending from the 1950s into the 21st century, Jones has had a whopping 143 Top 40 country hits and is frequently referred to as the greatest living country singer. He was a co-writer on his first chart hit, 1955’s “Why Baby Why,” and in the ‘60s recorded hundreds of songs including the number one classics “Tender Years,” “She Thinks I Still Care,” “Walk Through This World With Me” as well as more ephemeral fare like “Love Bug.”

Jones paired up with producer Billy Sherrill in the ‘70s and ‘80s, and their work together exemplified the lusciously string-drenched style known as “country-politan.” In the years that followed, he racked up hit after iconic hit, including “A Good Year for the Roses,” “The Grand Tour,” “I Always Get Lucky With You” and “If Drinkin’ Don’t Kill Me (Her Memory Will).” One 1980s smash in particular, “He Stopped Loving Her Today,” became widely regarded as the greatest country single of all time.

Guy’s music can vary from the most traditional, deepest blues to a creative and unpredictable gumbo of the blues, avant rock, soul and free jazz that morphs at each of his performances.
 
Ranked 30th in Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time," Guy is known for his showmanship on stage – playing his guitar with drumsticks or strolling into the audience while playing solos. Jonny Lang is a Grammy Award-winning American blues, gospel and rock singer, songwriter, guitarist and recording artist. Lang’s music is notable for both his unusual voice, which has been compared to that of a 40-year-old blues veteran, and for his guitar solos. His solo patterns have especially been noted for his frequent use of wide vibratos.
 
In more than ten years on the road, Lang has toured with the Rolling Stones, Buddy Guy, Aerosmith, B.B. King, Blues Traveler, Jeff Beck and Sting. In 1999, he was invited to play for a White House audience including President and Mrs. Clinton. Lang also made a cameo appearance in the film Blues Brothers 2000 as a janitor. He began as a DJ after he started writing his own songs, patterning his style largely after Super Cat and finding a mentor in Don Yute; he also found contacts in several members of the reggae-pop band Third World, which helped open up business connections. Paul released his debut single, "Baby Girl," with producer Jeremy Harding; it proved a significant success, leading to further Jamaican hits like "Nah Get No Bly (One More Try)," "Deport Them," "Excite Me," "Infiltrate," and "Hackle Mi." Sean Paul then started to make inroads into American audiences; he was first commissioned to collaborate with fellow dancehall hitmaker Mr. Vegas on a production for rapper DMX; titled "Here Comes the Boom." Also, Paul scored a Top Ten hit on the Billboard rap charts with "Hot Gal Today." Dutty Rock followed by The Trinity were extremely successful with both albums peaking in the Top Ten of the album chart and featuring a handful of mainstream smashes. A little known fact about Sean Paul was that he was also a skilled athlete, excelling in swimming and especially water polo, playing for the Jamaican national team.

Multi-platinum selling rock band TESLA will take the stage at The Pavilion at Seminole Casino Coconut Creek on Thursday, Oct. 4 at 8 p.m. TESLA’s line-up consists of four of its original members: vocalist Jeff Keith, guitarist Frank Hannon, bassist Brian Wheat and drummer Troy Luccketta, plus new guitarist Dave Rude who has brought a fresh energy and creativity to the band.
 
Formed in Sacramento in 1985, the group named itself after the eccentric inventor Nikola Tesla who pioneered the alternating current on which radio was based. Their debut album Mechanical Resonance, produced the crowd favorites “Modern Day Cowboy” and “Little Suzi,” reached the Top 40 on the album charts and eventually went platinum. Their second album The Great Radio Controversy helped solidify the band’s growing reputation and fan base. Its first single “Heaven’s Trail (No Way Out)” was a hit that set the stage for their second single sensation, a classic ’80s power ballad titled "Love Song," which pushed the album into the Top 20 and double-platinum sales figures.
 
The following year TESLA released Five Man Acoustical Jam, a live album featuring acoustic renditions of hits such as "Comin’ Atcha Live," "Gettin’ Better," "Modern Day Cowboy" and "Love Song." The album also featured a number of covers, most notably a version of "Signs," which became the band’s highest-charting single. Not only did the album reach the Top 20 and go platinum, it helped to inspire MTV’s Unplugged series, which included artists such as Eric Clapton, Nirvana and many others following suit with live acoustic albums.
 
Psychotic Supper was released in 1991 and it quickly became yet another platinum success and spun off the greatest number of singles of any TESLA album with “Edison’s Medicine,” “Call It What You Want,” “Song and Emotion” and the classic hit “What You Give.” TESLA followed up with Bust a Nut in 1994, selling over 800,000 copies and serving as a testament to the loyal fan base they cultivated.
 
After a break of six years, the band reformed in 2000 and soon after completed a full American reunion tour which also included recording the double live album Replugged Live at various cities. In 2004, TESLA released Into The Now and gave proof that the band from a previous decade was plunging forward into a new era of music and producing a sound that could compete with modern music. The group has since gone on to produce several additional hit albums and tour worldwide.

Under the guiding hand of mastermind George Clinton, Parliament/Funkadelic established funk as an heir to and outgrowth of soul. If James Brown is funk’s founding father, Clinton has been its chief architect and tactician. Over the decades, he’s presided over a musical empire that’s included Parliament/Funkadelic, plus numerous offshoots, solo and aggregates. The pioneering work of Parliament/Funkadelic in the Seventies—driven by Clinton’s conceptually inventive mind and the band members’ tight ensemble playing and stretched-out jamming—prefigured everything from rap and hip-hop to techno and alternative. Parliament/Funkadelic virtually defined the melting pot known as funk: a melding of rhythm & blues, jazz, gospel and psychedelic rock. With them, Clinton has purveyed larger-than-life characters and concepts from the stage, culminating in such theatrical milestones as the Mothership, a mock flying saucer from which the black space “aliens” of Clinton’s musical entourage alighted onstage. Though his musical productions have been typified by danceable grooves and driven by a laser-sharp sociological wit, Clinton’s ultimate goal is serious: “I am intent on making the word funk as legitimate as jazz and rock and roll.”

One of the seminal figures of rock’s new wave of romanticism, Adam Ant, is set to “Stand and Deliver” his hits alongside The Good, The Mad and The Lovely Posse at The Pavilion at Seminole Casino Coconut Creek on Friday, September 28 at 8 p.m. This will be their only concert in South Florida, and music lovers will get even more variety with the Brothers of Brazil performing an opening act at the show.

Adam Ant (born Stuart Leslie Goddard) is an English musician who gained fame as the lead singer of new wave/post-punk group Adam and the Ants. The band formed in 1977 and released its debut album Dirk Wears White Sox in 1979, then saw their popularity soar with Kings of the Wild Frontier in 1980. Driven by a relentless rhythmic drum beat and charming melodies, it quickly became a hit in the UK, launching three Top 10 singles, including “Ant Music” and “Ant Rap.” On the heels of this success, Prince Charming was released in 1981 and became an instant fan favorite with two #1 singles, “Stand and Deliver” and the title track “Prince Charming.”

Ant was also a star in the United States where he was once voted sexiest man in America by the viewers of MTV and received a “Best New Artist” Grammy nomination in 1982. His first solo album Friend or Foe brought continued success in the U.S., featuring the #1 single “Goody Two Shoes” and “Desperate But Not Serious” as well as delivering three top 20 hits on the Billboard Top 100. In 1983 he appeared on NBC’s Motown 25 Special alongside Michael Jackson, and throughout his career has also appeared in over two dozen films and television episodes.

In 2008, Adam was presented with the Q Music Icon Award placing him alongside fellow recipients Paul McCartney and Bryan Ferry. This rekindled recognition resulted in a series of low key, spontaneous gigs in 2010 which enabled him to select a new band and to perform several sell-out shows in London. Adam Ant and The Good, the Mad and the Lovely Posse played to thousands of people last year, and after the recent successful tour of Australia are bringing the raw, raucous show across the U.S.

The Brothers of Brazil started when the brotherly duo of Supla and Joäo got a job hosting their own national variety show in Brazil called “Brothers” on Rede TV. The AP Tour Fall 2012 is back and featuring a lineup handpicked by the AP staff. Metal rockers Miss May I will headline with main support from California heavy hitters The Ghost Inside. Waka Flocka Flame, is a Southern rapper associated with Gucci Mane and his So Icey Entertainment enterprise. Born Juaquin Malphurs he based himself in Atlanta, Georgia, where he launched his rap career. He cites influences that include Eazy-E and Lil Jon in addition to Gucci Mane. He was taken under Gucci Mane’s wing, and was added to his Brick Squad collective, which also includes OJ Da Juiceman, Frenchie, and Wooh da Kid. Waka Flocka made his solo mixtape debut with Shoot Me or Salute Me, the first of numerous mixtape releases that year. He scored his first commercial hit with “O Let’s Do It” and was featured on the song “Bingo” on Gucci Mane’s hit album The State vs. Radric Davis. His debut solo effort, Flockaveli, arrived on the Asylum label in 2010 and debuted at number six on the U.S. Billboard 200. The Righteous Brothers’ Bill Medley will perform at The Pavilion at Seminole Casino Coconut Creek. The show is a part of a month-long 1960s celebration at the casino throughout July. The award-winning vocalist and songwriter met his singing partner Bobby Hatfield and the pair began singing as a duo in 1962. Their first hit was “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’” followed by “(You’re My) Soul and Inspiration” and “Unchained Melody.” The Righteous Brothers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003 by one of their biggest fans, Billy Joel.

Enjoy a blast from the past as the All-Star Doo Wop Revival, featuring Jay Siegel’s Tokens, Doo Wop Mob and Lenny Cocco & The Chimes, comes to The Pavilion at the all-new Seminole Casino Coconut Creek. Jay Siegel, recognizable with his soaring falsetto voice, joined the Linc-Tones in 1955 and the group name was changed to The Tokens. The multitalented vocal group is best known for its classic mega hits “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” and “Tonight I Fell in Love,” which sold more than 1 million copies and were awarded gold discs. Over the years, The Tokens have shared the stage with such greats as The Beatles, Chuck Berry and Little Richard.

The Doo Wop Mob consists of former 5 Sharks member Steve Horn, former leader singer of the original Riffs Joe Locicero, former lead singer of the Imaginations Frank Mancuso, as well as former members of the Riffs and Reunion Carmine DeSena and Walter Hochhauser. The lovable quintet is well-known for their fabulous routines, which are only topped by their incredible harmonies while singing the greatest rock, oldies and doo wop hits of all time.

Lenny Cocco & The Chimes came together under the director of lead singer Lenny Cocco in the mid-1950s. Their first single was a version of Tommy Dorsey’s “Once in a While,” which became an instant hit and peaked at #11 on the Billboard Hot 100 list. The group is also well known for their popular follow up single “I’m in the Mood for Love,” a song from the 1930s.

After five successful years of helping put South Florida’s music scene on the map, Brotherly Love Productions is celebrating their anniversary with a big “High Five” weekend fiesta June 28th – July 1st. Over four nights at four different venues, nine of BLP’s favorite Florida bands will come together to celebrate five years of making it happen. Shows will take place at the Culture Room (Ft. The soulful and rhythmic 1950s vocal group, Little Anthony & The Imperials, will bring their beloved sound to The Pavilion at the all-new Seminole Casino Coconut Creek on Saturday, June 16 at 8 p.m. Highlighting the 1950s theme of the month at Seminole Casino Coconut Creek, the legendary group is lead by Jerome Anthony Gourdine, who is instantly recognizable for his strong, high-pitched falsetto voice.

Little Anthony & The Imperials still have the harmony and stage presence that makes audiences jump to their feet and sing along. Fans can expect to hear some of their favorites from the group including “Goin’ Out of My Head,” “I’m on the Outside Looking In,” “Out of Sight, Out of Mind,” “Shimmy, Shimmy, Ko-Ko Bop” and much more.

The group made their debut in 1958 with a double-sided ballad smash. The “A” side, “Tears on My Pillow,” instantly launched their career into musical history as one of the most enduring love ballads of the ‘50s, and sold over one million copies. The flip side was the hit, “Two People in the World.” A 1960s entertainment TV staple, Little Anthony & The Imperials performed on the popular shows Shindig!, Hullabaloo, Perry Como’s Kraft Music Hall, Dick Clark’s American Bandstand, The Ed Sullivan Show and The Tonight Show.

Little Anthony & The Imperials’ songs have been covered by a wide range of artists over the years, including Frank Sinatra, Linda Ronstadt, Luther Vandross, Ella Fitzgerald, Sergio Mendez and many others. The group has received numerous awards and was recognized for its lifelong contribution to music and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009. South Florida Jazz welcomes two of the artists featured in the 2010 Cuban-American cultural documentary Ninty Miles Project filmed in Havana, saxophonist David Sánchez and vibist Stefon Harris in concert with an All-star Latin jazz quintet.

South Florida’s premier modern jazz organization is excited to privileged to present some of the most creative musicians in modern jazz in the Latin Grammy-awarded saxophonist David Sánchez Quintet featuring the critically acclaimed vibist Stefon Harris. The band will reprise much of the repertoire created for the Ninety Miles Project, which was a collaboration with Cuban musicians in a distinctly apolitical setting of musical cross-pollination.

Latin Grammy Award winner David Sánchez is regarded amongst the most profound tenor saxophonists on the jazz scene working today. Jazz critic Howard Reich saluted the young bandleader saying, “Technically, tonally and creatively, he seems to have it all. His sound is never less than plush, his pitch is unerring, his rapid-fire playing is ravishing in its combination of speed, accuracy and utter evenness of tone.” Such is the acclaim and respect that Sánchez has engendered from critics, and fellow artists throughout the world as he continues to push the frontiers of mainstream jazz to incorporate a compelling and rich array of Latin and Afro-Caribbean influences, while remaining true to the tenets of the jazz genre.

David Sánchez began playing percussion and drums at age eight before migrating to tenor saxophone four years later. While a student at the prestigious La Escuela Libre de Música in San Juan, Puerto Rico, he also studied soprano and alto saxophones as well as flute and clarinet. The bomba and plena rhythms of Puerto Rico, along with Cuban and Brazilian traditions, were among the biggest cultural influences on Sánchez’s early taste in music, but Sonny Rollins, Dexter Gordon and John Coltrane had the greatest impact on his playing.

Sánchez has also performed and recorded with Kenny Barron, Roy Haynes, Charlie Haden, Lalo Schifrin, Tom Harrell, and had the opportunity to perform with the legendary drummer Elvin Jones. Whether with Gillespie, Palmieri, Haden and his other jazz mentors, or under his own name, Sánchez has continued to tour extensively, bringing his mix of mainstream jazz with Afro-Latin influences to delighted audiences throughout the globe. Along the way, he has collected 10 nominations and two Grammy Awards.

This band performing for South Florida JAZZ is very special because all of the players are absolutely top-tier. Venezuelan-born pianist Edward Simon is among the most highly regarded pianists, especially in the modern Latin idiom. Bassist Ricky Rodriguez, plays in Latin and straightahead configurations and is in high demand; and drummer Adam Cruz is first-call from pianist Danilo Pérez to the Mingus Big Band and is a gifted player. A special guest is vibist Stefon Harris, Jazz Journalists Association Mallet Player of the Year, who is among the top three on his instrument. Stefon joined David Sanchez and trumpeter Christian Scott in the excursion to Havana, Cuba in 2010 for the Ninety Miles Project of cross-cultural pollination resulting in an important BBC documentary and a recording. This band will be en fuego!
