This Thursday, July 14th, Fooq’s and Friends celebrates Bastille Day with a 5-course dinner, inspired by the French classics. El Tucan Presents Los Hacheros Weekend Takeover

Offering a departure from the usually scheduled shows, “Weekend Takeovers” will bring to the stage an exciting, new concert series. El Tucan hopes to enlighten Miami by providing access to unique Latin American talent. Once a month, the weekend takeover will also bring great Cuban bands from New York to perform an exclusive 3 day residency.
Performing Thursday, June 16 through Saturday, June 18, Los Hacheros will be the third installment of the weekend takeover. After two successful Weekend Takeovers this past May and April by Chino Pons y Grupo Irek and Gerardo Contino y Los Habaneros, the venue is excited to have Los Hacheros join them this month of June for the next 3 day residency.
RSVP: El Tucan has one live music and entertainment show on Thursday, and two seatings Friday through Saturday. Back for its fourth installment, TALDE’s monthly Brunch Life series is celebrating all the good and bad daddies out there. Appropriately themed for Father’s Day, TALDE’s “Daddy Issues” Brunch Life event will take place on Saturday, June 18, from 1pm – 4pm. Guests with (or without!) daddy issues are invited to eat and drink their feelings away while partying alongside Dale Talde, co-host Veronica Gessa, and DJ Coco Hara, who will be spinning a soundtrack from bad-daddy rappers.

Dads’ favorite comfort foods will be plenty. At $40 per person, guests will enjoy all-you-can-eat feel-good food as well as their choice of a beer, mimosa or shot of Evan Williams whiskey. The menu includes Filipino pork chop, eggs and potatoes; The TALDE burger with maple miso bacon, Kimchee pickles and spicy mayo atop a house-ground chuck and brisket patty; grilled corn with queso fresco; Kung Pao cauliflower; a wedge salad made with srirancha (sriracha and ranch), blue cheese and pinoy-style bacon; and doughnut French toast to cure the hangovers of the sugar daddies who stayed out way past their recommended bedtimes.

Miami Beach’s new oceanfront lifestyle hotel, The Confidante (aka: Thompson Miami Beach), is launching its summertime Backyard BBQ monthly series with The Backyard Bayou Boil on Sunday, June 12 from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m. The pool party BBQ series will be hosted in the hotel’s colorful backyard area, inclusive of a lush tropical garden, colorful poolside cabanas and bungalows, and two heated pools. The series will run through September and is open to the public.

The Miami Design District and James Beard Award-winning chef Michael Schwartz are celebrating summer with Genuine Summer Series: a three-event culinary experience series in the Design District’s Palm Court with food from Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink (MGFD).

Kicking off the series on Friday, June 10 is Sundown Grillout, an outdoor feast off the Lynx Grill featuring pairings by Wines of Germany with special attention to Riesling varietals. Guests will enjoy a cocktail hour with passed bites followed by a three-course seated dinner at farm-style tables in breezy Palm Court. The evening will feature live music from Marcus Grant “Mutes & Roots” Jazz Trio.

With his A-list celebrity chums, astronomical bank balance and palatial homes in Miami, Ibiza and soon Los Angeles, few people epitomize the ‘superstar DJ’ like Erick Morillo. The organizers of the IMS music conference in Ibiza certainly thought so, inviting Erick to give a talk entitled ‘Big Dog DJs: Fuck You I’m Famous’ earlier this year.

The Florida International University Department of Architecture’s Eco Couture Recycling Fashion Show will launch its successful event for a third year in a row. The fashion show will feature a variety of outfits that are completely made from recycled materials. The event, which was created with the purpose of promoting sustainability through fashion, strives to educate and inspire the community about good recycling habits and an environmentally-friendly lifestyle. This year’s runway is expected to showcase more than 50 outfits, all of which will be reusable. All proceeds from this event go towards scholarships for students in the FIU Department of Architecture.

The Eco Couture Recycling Fashion Show is hosted by Event Founder, Artistic Director, and FIU Architecture alumna Amira Ajlouni ’14 and Event Partner, Artistic Director, and current Architecture graduate student Jennifer Luis. During the craziness that was Art Basel 2015, pastry chef extraordinaire Dominique Ansel hosted a “surprise” pop-up soft serve window at The Setai Miami Beach serving two frozen yogurt creations. The first was a Caramel Stout Soft Serve with Chocolate “Caviar” and Sea Salt Brownie and the second was his cult-favorite Burrata Soft Serve, Balsamic Caramel, Confit Strawberry and Microbasil, both served in hand-rolled honey tuile cones. The second annual edition of Taste of Miami–a dynamic charity event showcasing the unique and stylish flavors of South Florida through a delectable selection of culinary bites, premium spirits, and craft beverages from the city’s top restaurants–will take place Thursday, February 18, 2016 at Marlins Park. The evening will be hosted by renowned celebrity chef and Miami native Adrianne Calvo, as well as Miami Marlins All-Star pitcher Jose Fernandez. Proceeds from this event under the stars will benefit the Marlins Foundation, the Hispanic Food and Beverage Foundation, and the Miami Culinary Institute’s Joanna Rodriguez Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Taste of Miami targets the vast population of culinary enthusiasts in the South Florida area, but also aims to attract a diverse demographic of general consumers who enjoy food, drink, and participation in charitable endeavors. The proceedings were inspired by the memory of Miami Culinary Institute student Joanna Rodriguez, who passed away unexpectedly at the age of 20 in December 2014.
Ms. Rodriguez was a beloved member of the school’s student body whose passion for the culinary arts and brightening the lives of those around her was exemplified by her ever-present smile and compassionate spirit. In memory of Joanna’s talent, dedication, and love of her craft, the Marlins Foundation, in conjunction with the Hispanic Food and Beverage Foundation and the Miami Culinary Institute, forged the concept of a night featuring some of the preeminent talents in the celebrated Miami food and wine landscape.

“It’s an honor to be able to serve as co-host of an event that ultimately celebrates both the culinary arts and the memory of an aspiring student who dreamt of a career in the field”, remarks Chef Adrianne. “The fact that the night will help launch the university careers of two students who also want to embark on this path provides me with even greater inspiration to be a part of it.”
Funds raised from the event will go towards the funding of two Miami Culinary Institute scholarships for deserving Hispanic high school and college students looking to embark on a career in the Food and Beverage industry.

In addition to providing attendees with a diverse and multi-course array of Miami’s unique flavors, taking place on Thursday, February 18, Chef Adrianne and Jose Fernandez will judge a live “Chef Showdown” that featuresTelemundo’s Chef James Tahhan returning to defend his MVP Master Chef title alongside a Miami Marlins All-Star alumni player serving as his sous chef. Exhibiting restaurants and microbreweries will also compete for the coveted Taste of Miami “Grand Slam” award. The Grand Slam award is a “Best In Show”-form of recognition that will be determined by votes from the event’s attendees on each contest participant’s performance in the categories of Table Presentation and Taste. The winning entry will receive a 2016 Taste of Miami Grand Slam Trophy and a $1000 donation will also be made to the participant’s 501c3-classified charity of choice.

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes will honor student-athletes, coaches and communities that are committed to making a difference in young people’s lives through faith and fellowship at its 45th annual Orange Bowl Prayer Breakfast. Sponsored by Baptist Health South Florida, the prayer breakfast will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 29 at 7:30 a.m. at Jungle Island, 1111 Parrot Jungle Trail. Players and coaches from Oklahoma and Clemson, the teams playing in this year’s Capital One Orange Bowl game, are scheduled to attend.
The event, emceed by Don Bailey Jr., will feature keynote speaker Charlie Ward, the 1993 Heisman Trophy winner and two-sport standout at Florida State University as a quarterback in football and point guard in basketball. Ward subsequently led the FSU Seminoles to their first-ever National Championship under legendary Coach Bobby Bowden. Though undrafted by the NFL in 1994, he became a first-round draft pick of the New York Knicks, helping them reach the playoffs for six straight years. Today he holds the distinction of being the only Heisman winner to play in the NBA. He played 11 seasons in the NBA with New York, San Antonio and Houston, then served as an assistant coach with the Houston Rockets for two years.
In addition, Dennis Hickey, the Miami Dolphins general manager, will also make remarks. Hickey is responsible for football operations and administration, including directing the college and pro personnel departments. He directs all scouting efforts involving the college draft, free agency, the Canadian Football League and personnel of the other 31 NFL teams. He joined the Dolphins after spending 18 years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, including three seasons as the team’s director of player personnel.
