We apologize for the fashion silence these past few weeks. We have been extremely busy writing about the food, travel, and culture that comes in droves in late spring. But, rest assured, we have been diligently keeping up with our local fashion happenings, amping up for Miami fashion season, and naturally thinking of you the whole time.
Latest on our radar is news from Babalú Boutique in Miami Beach – you know, the unexpected surprise beneath the stairs in the 1111 Lincoln Road building (the Herzog and De Meuron garage) that stands out with its neon lights and eclectic yet luxurious inventory. In a testament to its founders’ limitless creativity, the chic boutique recently added a cozy room to its small footprint that houses a beautiful perfume bar and an interactive tool called the Perfume Genie that helps you find your favorite fragrance. As perfume amateurs, we were intrigued by the new expansion and the unveiling of its resident magical technology so we bribed our closest friends with bubbles to come check it out with us last week. WK&F Group and VP Productions Travel Presents the 8th Annual Miami Takeover Experience
Like-Minded Urban Professionals Party with a Purpose
Miami, FL-The 8th Annual Miami Takeover Experience will take place in sunny South Beach from July 9-13, 2015. Attendees will enjoy seven signature events at Miami’s premiere entertainment spots. The host hotels for this year’s Takeover include the SLS South Beach, the Aloft South Beach and the Cantina Hotel & Beach Club.
Over 3,000 visitors from Pennsylvania, DC, Maryland, Virginia, Texas, North Carolina and Georgia are expected to participate in Miami Takeover along with the 92,000 visitors expected in Miami that weekend. In the past, Miami Takeover has hosted notable personalities such as Trey Songz (R&B singer), Sanaa Lathan (Actress), Dave Chappelle (Comedian), Doug E. Fresh (Rapper/Celebrity Host) and MC Lyte (Celebrity DJ/Rapper), just to name a few.
“Miami Takeover is geared to provide like-minded urban professionals with a stress free getaway in the ideal vacation spot in Miami,†says Wylie Kynard, general partner of WK&F Group.
Hosted by radio personality Lorenzo “Ice T†Thomas, Miami Takeover events will take place in Miami’s most upscale spots including Mansion Nightclub, Nikki Beach, Ocean 10 and the South Beach Convention Center. Attendees will also get the opportunity to give back to the community by participating in two community outreach projects: a beach clean-up and a dental screening for kids at the Overtown Youth Foundation.
“Most people go to Miami just for the parties and nightlife but don’t necessarily learn more about the community they are visiting,†says Kynard. “Miami Takeover allows visitors and Miami natives the opportunity to enjoy Miami’s nightlife and also give back to the community all in one weekend.â€
Miami Takeover is partnering with Colgate Palm Olive screening to provide 140 kids free dental screenings at the Overtown Youth Center. The screening will take place July 9. There will fun bounce houses at the dental screening along with a house emporium geared toward the kids attending.
“We want to give back to the community for allowing us to hold such great events in Miami,†says event logistic director, Dianne Walker of DeeWorks Enterprises.

The beach-clean up will take place Sunday, July 12th from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Both locals and visitors are welcome to volunteer to help clean up a portion of South Beach (17th-20th Avenue).

In the Lobby Lounge . . . WORDS! Wednesday, June 17th – 6:30pm
Olympia Theater at Gusman Center
174 E. Flagler Street
Miami FL 33131
This month’s theme is ArT, which means we will be reading WORDS! about aRT . . .
. . . and we’ve got some very special words indeed!
The Blazing World, by Siri Hustvedt. Breaking down the book through fiction reading, Olympia actors will bring to life the characters of Hustvedt’s latest novel, the provocative story of artist Harriet “Harry” Burden who, after years of watching her work ignored or dismissed by critics, conducts an experiment she calls Maskings. She presents her own art behind three male masks, concealing her female identity.
Wednesday, June 17th will be our first evening focused solely on fiction, breaking down a single book, and The Blazing World, with its fractured structure and diverging perspectives, really lends itself to this approach. Raquel Roque from Books & Books in Coral Gables will be on hand with copies of the novel for sale.
Doors open at 6:00 pm and the reading starts at 6:30 pm. Cocktails available at the bar. Guided tour of the historic Olympia Theater during intermission.
This is a FREE event, open to the public.
In The Lobby Lounge . . .”WORDS! is our second foray into the wonderful world of Wednesdays in Downtown Miami,” says Olympia Theater Executive Director Robert Geitner, “bringing theatre and prose back to the Olympia on a monthly basis.” Future words-oriented evenings will include directed play readings, improv, skits & spontaneous theater, short stories, readings of excerpts from longer works of fiction, and personal monologues “in their own words.” By October 2015, the event will be scheduled the first Wednesday of every month.
Presented by the Olympia Theater
Sponsored by the Miami Downtown Development Authority
Grant funding from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation

It was a standing room only for the more than one hundred and fifty people who attended the opening of OBBA Sushi in Coral Gables this past Friday.
The Honorable Jim Cason, Mayor of Coral Gables presided over the cutting of the ribbon together with OBBA Sushi owners Walter Zapata and Tufic Akil. The Mayor also awarded Zapata and Akil with a Seal to City of Coral Gables based on their entrepreneurial achievements.
Once the ribbon was cut the sound of Taiko welcomed guests into the serene and well appointed dining rooms. The sushi creations coming out of the sushi bar were being consumed as soon as they were being put into the trays and the Sapporo kept flowing to the satisfaction of everyone. Definitely a great opening night!
OBBA Sushi is open and ready to make gastronomic history.

Start off with a round of Huevos Bulla, Montaditos de Costilla, Croquetas & Datiles con Bacon, followed by round two, Buenelos de Bacalao, Tortilla Espanola, Pinxto Moruno, and Tartar de Atun. Then, complete your palate with their homemade churros and caramel sauce. Space is very limited; to make reservations please call Autumn at 305-441-0107.
This year, the bloggers started the crawl by getting together at BULLA GASTROBARÂ , winner of the 2015 Taste of the Gables Award.
Bulla Gastrobar welcomed us with a choice of white or red Sangrias both of which were full of fruit flavor, talk about the perfect refreshment on a hot Florida June afternoon.
Then the tasting began…
Our sampling menu consisted of:
Salpicón de Mariscos: Grilled octopus, jumbo lump crab meat, shrimp, bell peppers, fresh lemon, oregano and olive oil. This combination of seafood flavors was simply amazing!
Huevos Bulla: Homemade potato chips, Serrano ham and potato foam drizzled with truffle oil. These eggs were just the perfect appetizer.
Bulla Sliders: Homemade garlic herb bread, beef, pork, veal, oyster mushroom patties, piquillo peppers, caramelized onions, crimini port reduction, tetilla cheese, and Portobello fries. This is actually a James Beard Foundation Burger and winner of The Taste of the Gables Award…need we say more?
By this time we were all excited and ready to continue.
Next stop on the list: BRICKTOPS right across the street.
Field Greens Salad: Mixed baby greens, tomatoes, carrots, onions, mushrooms and focaccia croutons with a homemade house vinaigrette.
Hearts of Romaine Caesar: Hearts of Romaine lettuce with grated parmesan and focaccia croutons with homemade Caesar dressing.
The Wedge Salad: Bib lettuce, thick cut bacon, red onion and blue cheese.
Scottish Salmon: Salmon lightly seasoned and simply grilled. So simple and yet so good!
Prime Sirloin Meat Loaf : Meat loaf made from prime sirloin and topped with a chili sauce glaze. Quite possibly the best meat loaf we’ve ever tasted.
Baby Back Ribs: Danish Baby Back Ribs topped with chipotle barbecue sauce. The ten hour slow cooked process is evident in the meat fall off the bone/melt in your mouth texture.
Obba Sandwich: Shrimp tempura, spicy crab salad, avocado and chives with spicy katzu mayo.
Banana Tempura: Batter fried banana.
Then it was on to BOOKS & BOOKS CAFE where they treated us to a delicious
Shrimp Avocado Tartine: Fresh shrimp, avocado, tomato, basil pesto, garlic aioli on grilled Ciabatta. We washed down with a great-bodied Uintaite BaBa Black Lager.
Our last stop was LA TABERNA GIRALDA, a quaint Spanish style tavern. The offerings:
Croquetas Cabrales: Cabrales cheese croquettes.
Chips de Berenjenas y Miel: Eggplant Chips sprinkled with honey.
Perfecto de Solomillo de Cerdo: Roasted pork tenderloin with caramelized onion and aroma of rosemary.
It was a perfect ending to a perfect evening.
Don’t forget that Coral Gables Restaurant Week ends June 28th so you better hurry and try to capitalize on all the wonderful tastes that the City Beautiful has to offer.

Summer will be here in just a few short weeks. What do you have planned? Besides summer vacations, quality time with friends and family and reading a good book by the pool, there are also some incredible concerts to watch! Your calendar is no doubt booked solid with all of your favorite artists and now all that’s missing is the perfect concert outfit.
With so many options it’s hard to know exactly what to wear. You could go with a maxi dress, women’s sandals from Reef, a pair of jeans and cowgirl boots, or just a skirt and tee-shirt. Depending on the theme of the concert it’ll be fun to come up with an ensemble that’s comfy and stylish. Here’s an outfit that’ll work perfectly for any concert during the summer:
Button Down Blouse
A cotton blouse is perfect for warmer weather and will complement sparkly accessories and a pair of jeans. Buy one in your favorite color which can be in a baby blue, pink, or polka dot purple pattern. Pair a blouse with a tank top underneath, so if you get hot during the concert you can unbutton your blouse and just wear your tank top.
Leather Flip Flops
You can’t go wrong with women’s leather flip flops that will feel comfy when you’re walking around a lot throughout the concert evening. These durable flip flops are ideal for a variety of events and are perfect when you’re on your feet a lot as your feet won’t get sore. Leather flip flops will also go with any outfit and will look perfect with your button down blouse.
A Simple Necklace and a Lightweight Purse
Since you’re going for the simple yet chic look with your blouse and sandals, a simple necklace with a heart pendant or your name will blend well with your blouse. A lightweight purse such as a crossbody bag or wallet with a strap will work perfectly for a concert. Keep in mind you’ll want to bring a purse that won’t weigh you down but at the same time won’t get lost. If you carry a wallet with a strap you could accidentally set it down somewhere and forget about it. Don’t let that happen! Since your outfit is coming together well, all you need now is the perfect pair of jeans!
Skinny Jeans
Depending on the weather, finish off your outfit with a pair of skinny jeans or jean shorts. Look for shorts that have pockets with jewels or sequins to bring on the glam factor. It’ll all go together quite nicely. Now it’s time for the concert to begin!

It was an eventful evening full of distinguished people/food lovers at the Westin Colonnade Coral Gables. The standing room only crowd could not wait to sample the best that the restaurants in the Gables have to offer. Each restaurant competing for the distinction of being declared winner of the 2015 Taste of the Gables.
From Ceviche to Oxtail, there was a dish for every palate; each dish meticulously and impeccably prepared but there could only be one winner…
Taste of the Gables kicks off Restaurant Week. For three weeks, restaurants will offer special three-course lunch and dinner prix-fixe menus at a discounted price.
Definitely the best way to enjoy some of the best gastronomical delights in the world!
Thanks to our Instagram, it is no secret that we love palm trees and we love Panama. Palm trees make an incredible print and they are an integral part of Miami’s iconic image. Panama is a gorgeous country and a no brainer destination for Miami locals. In the spirit of our summer, we wanted to combine both of our tropical obsessions by sharing some photos we shot during our last trip to surf Panama’s Pacific Coast.
Huge props to Hotel Playa Cambutal for being our home away from home in Panama when Miami’s as flat as an ironing board. For a surf family like ours, there is really no better place to escape to than a beautiful hotel on an empty beach with nearly year-round surf.

Astolfo Funes – Sketches Exhibition Friday, 06/05/2015 – 06/05/2015 06:00 pm – 10:00 pm The Artisan Lounge 500 NE 1st Ave, Miami, Florida 33132 None Link
Cost:
Astolfo Funes’s theme is “women,” but in reality, the “feminine” as an expression of a universe that belongs to humans, which he loves. Funes’ Women are concept and form, are underground issues that arise in extraordinary colors, glow encased in large black lines. The face in the foreground of one of his current series, accuses changes since the beginning of the first decade. Face emerges from the back of the fabric to penetrate the viewer’s personal life, saying you are like me, while the individualist sentiment appears exaggerated in his own connections to feelings and emotions.
Join us for his exhibition in the Artisan Lounge in Gallery 1 and 3. Free admission.

KCC Productions presents Tito Puente, Jr. at Arts Garage
Got Mambo? You will be captivated by the rhythm and beat…almost stepping back into a time capsule yet with refreshing energy that will keep you asking for more! Come to Arts Garage June 5 and 6 and enjoy the hot Latin rhythms of Tito Puente,
Jr. and His Latin Jazz Ensemble. Showtime is 8 PM.
The comparison is inevitable. How could it be otherwise? Tito Puente Jr. carries his father with him – imprinted on his physical being and locked in his soul. It’s in his looks, his joy, and his music. The younger Puente is determined to nurture the musical legacy left by his father. “He was just too vibrant, too exciting. There was magic in the music my father made.
It made people happy all over the world.†He has found enthusiastic audiences who echo his passion. Crowds lured to a venue by the father are returning to see the son — and to once again participate in the high voltage celebration that takes place on stage.
His 2004 album, “In My Father’s Shoes†featured the classic Puente titles and was spun into a BET Jazz television special of the same name. His later CD, “Got Mambo?†takes a musical departure into some powerful new music he can truly call his own.
Guest artists Bobby Cruz and Hansel & Raul help make this a coming of age project for Puente, Jr. and the album has received heavy praise from Tropical and Latin Jazz critics alike.
Expect an exciting evening of great music, and don’t forget your dancing shoes! Arts Garage is located at 180 NE First St in Delray Beach, phone (561) 450-6357. General admission is $25 at artsgarage.org.
