To commemorate another successful year of dedication to end the water and sanitation crisis, BLUE Missions is hosting its 5th Annual Cocktail fundraiser on May 9 at Florida International University. For over five years, BLUE Missions has served the Miami community in educating young adults of the overwhelming need for clean water and sanitation in poverty-stricken communities abroad through authentic immersion experiences in the Dominican Republic.
The evening features an open bar stocked with premium-brand liquor provided by Southern Wine & Spirits, hors d’oeuvres and dinner catered by Cole Catering, live music by Afro-Latin funk band Suénalo and professional singer/songwriter, Keba, along with beats by DJ Mandy.
The 5th Annual BLUE Cocktail is an opportunity for all to join BLUE Missions in celebrating five years’ worth of accomplishments, memories, and togetherness in the unstoppable quest of water-giving. Starting in April, the waterfront gastropub is sharing the breadth of their brew knowledge by giving guests the hop-portunity to meet, greet and learn from local breweries while sipping exclusive flavors on tap. On Tuesday, April 21st from 8 to 11 p.m., American Social Brickell is hosting a Funky Buddha tap takeover showcasing South Florida’s largest brewery.

SOBEWFF Amstel Light Burger Bash 2015
Friday night, a friend and I had the chance to attend the SOBEWFF Amstel Light Burger Bash. Of course, being allergic to sub-par beer, we decided to check out the newest brewery in Wynwood, J Wakefield Brewing for some pre-gaming. Seriously, check that place out!
And while J Wakefield had what looked to be a pretty awesome food truck outside, what it didn’t have was a Ritz-Carlton beach full of awesome chefs preparing gourmet burgers! Oh, or the hot chicks, spectacular band, celebrities (yeah, I got my picture taken with Al Roker and Morimoto!), and thousands of people.
Honestly, you can see who won here. I was a little disappointed with the star power that I and other people love to meet (though not burger quality) compared to when I went in 2013. That year, Morimoto was there but was joined by Bobby Flay, Guy Fieri, Scott Conant, Michael Symon, Geoffrey Zakarian, Andrew, Zimmern, Anne Burrell, The Sandwich King, and more.
My favorite and the one I cast my vote for was Prime One Twelve (Prime 112). That burger was so juicy and cheesy and delicious! I also enjoyed Red Robin’s burger and Shake Shack too among a handful of others.
Anyway, here are some pictures! I hope to go again next year!

Reyka Vodka brand ambassador, Trevor Schneider, can vouch for Miami’s cocktail credibility. When New York’s very own “cocktail ninja” arrived to our beautiful city last Saturday, he was excited to see that Miami is bringing our mixology A-game. The Broken Shaker, he says, is the prime example of how high Miami is setting the bar. That said, it comes as no surprise that he selected The Broken Shaker as the backdrop for re-introducing Reyka Vodka to the Miami community.
Earlier this week, Trevor invited local influencers to the Freehand Miami for a tasting of classic cocktails reinvented with Reyka Vodka. The menu featured three signature cocktails bound to take Miami by storm: the Reyka Cooler, the Harvest Collins, and the Icelandic Paloma. We loved all three, especially because each one had a distinct claim-to-fame. For example, the Harvest Collins had strawberry-infused vodka that made it dangerously delicious.
The free-flowing drinks, the gorgeous weather, and Trevor’s charisma were all contributing factors to a good time. 27 Restaurant and Bar sealed the deal by furnishing exquisite hors d’oeuvres that, to no one’s surprise, impressed everyone present. Overall the night was an incredible success. We speak for everyone when we say that you’re welcome back any time Reyka Vodka!

Lique Miami-A Refreshing New Waterfront Dining By Betty Alvarez
I arrived to this quaint restaurant in North Miami which I have only heard about, Lique. This waterfront dining spot is owned by restauranteurs Peter Cumplido and Alex Podolhy who are also behind Fort Lauderdale’s Sweet Nectar. This soon-to-be hot spot has Executive Chef Renalto Medeiros at the helm and I was about to embark on a never-before breathtaking dining experience in a chilly night but that did not stop me.
When I entered the restaurant I realized that I have been here before when it was Rouge Waterfront Dining where everything was red. But this time around, the restaurant is transformed into what it seems an enchanted garden with luxurious white decor furniture, greenery all over, the contemporary pieces that was all over. The decor is truly spectacularly very fresh and inviting. We sat down to our table to begin our journey.
Our dining experience was by candlelight. A nice touch for a romantic experience if you are dining with a loved one. In my case, I was dining with one of my best friends so that did not happen. LOL! I ordered a nice Pinot Grigio and she ordered a nice fruity tall glass drink that our waiter recommended. I was jealous as her glass was bigger than mine! When we were hended our menu it was unique as it was a wood platform wit the menu attached and the logo of the restaurant on the back. It was great as everything was on one page.
Appetizers and small plates is what we suggested therefore it did not disappoint. First serving was the Truffle Big Eye Tuna Carpaccio. I wanted something healthy but nice to start therefore the Tuna was a nice healthy alternative. What a delight! The truffle made the Tuna stand out as all my taste buds sky-rockted. It gave it a distinct flavor. Then came the Bone Marrow-a plate of 4 big oxtail bones filled with shredded beef with toasted bread besides each bone. A true delight to savor.
If the Bone Marrow is too much for you, the Beef Cheek Toast would be more appropriate as it has the same shredded beef on top of a toasted bread. Another real treat is the Escargot Tortellini. A plate of 4 tortellini smothered with creamy sauce with bits of bacon was the utmost satisfaction that we got. It was my first time in a long time that I tried escargot but it actually tasted like beef. Tasty and delicious!
Lastly, we just had to have dessert therefore our waiter suggested the apple pie but this was not any ordinary apple pie. This was a Desconstructed Apple Pie. The pie was served with 4 fluffy pastries on one side, cinnamon ice cream in one jar and the apple filling in another jar. One had to place all of these items in the plate. It was delish and proved that by this time we were completely full.
Other than the plates we tried, the mediterranean-style cuisine also had more selections of tapas, raw seafood, and a sushi bar. One can sit at the dock area gazing as the marine boats pass by and enjoying a nice night out under the stars. A suitable place to dine with a loved one and/or with friends. A true gem!

Art exists in various forms. Some use a single haired brush to shade the eyelashes on a portrait. Some arbitrarily splatter paint across a canvas. Some put a giant fucking sea creature in a tank and freeze it in time. And then some choose to mix frequencies created by synthesizers with rhythms made by drum machines, all with the intention to dance for hours and hours, and be transported to another mindset.
So, for Art Basel 2014, we celebrate this form of art with an all day long musical exposition at STEAM in Miami’s heart of Downtown. There will be live art painting. There will be sensory overloading food. And, of course, there will be techno. So leave your turtle-necked, horn-rimmed glasses wearing, contemporary art blog reading friends at the expo center (or bring them) and come celebrate one of the most important forms of art with us.

Today from 6:00PM to 9:00PM, Jose’s Hands and TLS Lounge are teaming up to host #PartyForACause. Come down to TSL Lounge at the Wynwood Art District and help celebrate Jose’s Hands’ five year anniversary. All proceeds will benefit Jose’s Hands Medical Mission Trips. Jose’s Hands is a non-profit organization first created in 2009. Since it’s inception, has been raising money for medical trips to support those in need in the Caribbean and in Latin America. Thanks to generous donations, the organization has been able to attend eight medical mission trips and served thousands of people with no cost medical care. The theme of the night will be Latin Night and black attire is requested. So come, have a few drinks, party while raising money for those in need.

September is National Sickle Cell Awareness month. In honor of those who struggle with the affects of Sickle Cell Disease the Sickle Cell Natural Wellness Group (SCNWG) in association with C&I Studios is proud to present “The R.E.D. Show”. This event is in honor of Sickle Cell awareness, those living with or caring for someone with SCD as well as those who have passed away due to Sickle Cell Anemia. The R.E.D. Show is a celebration of life and natural wellness. This year marks the third annual fundraiser presented by SCNWG to promote education, healthy living, social awareness and charitable donations for those impacted by Sickle Cell Anemia.
The R.E.D show will be hosted by C&I Studios, on Saturday, September 27th from 7:00pm-1:00am; located in Fat Village home to Ft. Lauderdale’s booming Art Walk. More than 1,000 patrons come out the enjoy the arts and festivities.

Tickets for loitering will not be issued here while this talented and playful street art team transforms the west-facing wall of 1909 Harrison Street in Downtown Hollywood in just a few weeks. The community welcomes Chaz and Bob Gibson, aka “The London Policeâ€, to the neighborhood as the creators of the 12th DHMP wall mural. The community is looking forward to seeing the artful enhancement this British duo has in store. All are invited to join a “Live Painting Performance” with TLP at the mural site on Saturday night, September 27th from 7-10pm.
The Downtown Hollywood Mural Project is successfully rounding its second year with an impressive roster of artists including Daniel Fila a.k.a. “Kraveâ€, David “Lebo” LeBatard, Jessy Nite, Luis Pinto, Edward Mendieta, Ruben Ubiera, 2alas, Evoca1, Michelle Weinberg and Tati Suarez, all who have contributed amazing work to the community. Selected by a review committee, the project invites artists whose mural proposals promote health, happiness, and well-being.
When asked about the mural he and his partner are gearing up to begin next month, artist Chaz Gibson tells us, “We always try to project a positive theme in our pieces. Our signature characters have happy faces and are depicted doing everyday things in the world they live in. In this particular piece one of our characters is making adjustments to the aquarium he is looking after. As we are near the sea we threaded an aquatic theme with science and nature with an overall moral of looking after each other.”
The duo has clearly come up with a mural concept that speaks to Hollywood and incorporates attributes that this community can connect with. “We love the idea of the aquatic theme and the fact that the mural will promote togetherness. That is what Hollywood is all about and The London Police really get that about usâ€, remarks Lisa Liotta, Hollywood Community Redevelopment Agency’s Operations Manager.
Since inception, The Downtown Hollywood Mural Project has garnered the attention of locals, visitors and art enthusiasts alike. Giselle Perez, a realtor in Miami comments on her experience, “The live mural painting events are really quite awesome to attend! No two events have been similar and each artist brings their own vibe. My friends and I come up from Miami for a bite to eat at one of the eclectic eateries on Hollywood Blvd. or Harrison Street. We pop into a few of the crafty boutiques and art galleries and really enjoy walking the streets to see the mural walls throughout the downtown. Often times, the artists have added or change something, which is always a nice surprise! The live mural performances are really fun to attend. Meeting new people who have an appreciation for art and community is always a good time!â€
