Huifang Chen Bio
A dynamic artist from Taiwan and long-time U.S. resident, Huifang Chen enjoys a diverse career as a violinist, educator, and conductor. She has been the Music Director of the Greater Miami Youth Symphony since 2008 and the Concertmaster of the South Florida Symphony Orchestra since 2020. In 2022, she was appointed Associate Conductor of the South Florida Symphony Orchestra. Since then, she has conducted numerous children’s concerts throughout South Florida, including Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, Marathon, and Key West, plus multiple pops concerts at John Knox Village, Weston, and Bal Harbour Shops.

Ms. Chen was a member of the Florida Philharmonic Orchestra from 1994 until its disbandment in 2003. She also has served as concertmaster for many orchestras including Ars Flores Orchestra, Florida Grand Opera, Palm Beach Symphony, Orchestra Miami, and Boca Symphonia. In 2023, Ms. Chen was selected as the concertmaster for Andrea Bocelli’s orchestra.

As a violin soloist, Ms. Chen has appeared with orchestras around the world, including the Taipei Symphony Orchestra and New Taoyuan Philharmonic in her native country. She has soloed with the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra in the Czech Republic and with the Rochester Symphony, Macomb Symphony, Oakland-Pontiac Symphony, and Warren Symphony in Michigan. Locally, she has soloed with the Alhambra Orchestra, Florida Youth Orchestra, Frost Symphony Orchestra at the University of Miami, Greater Miami Youth Symphony, Miami Bach Society, and Renaissance Chamber Orchestra among others, and most recently in 2024, with the South Florida Symphony Orchestra performing Bruch’s Scottish Fantasy. She has also appeared multiple times as a soloist with the Dreyfoos Philharmonic Orchestra in Palm Beach performing Brahms, Mendelssohn, Sibelius, and Tchaikovsky Violin Concertos. Chen was featured as the soloist in the first virtual concert with the South Florida Symphony Orchestra during the pandemic in 2020 playing Mozart’s Turkish Violin Concerto. In addition, she has been an active chamber musician. Since 2021, she has been the key player for South Florida Symphony’s “Summer with the Symphony” chamber concert series.

Ms. Chen graduated from the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music where her mentor was violin legend Jascha Brodsky (1907-1997). She was the winner of the 1999 Young Concert Artist award from the National Concert Hall of Taipei, Taiwan and also won the 2003 Concerto Competition at the University of Miami where she received a master’s degree in 2005.

As a recording artist, Huifang has appeared on dozens of award-winning CDs for artists such as the Bee Gees, Natalie Cole, Gloria Estefan, Julio Iglesias, Ricky Martin, Jon Secada, Shakira, and Barbra Streisand. In 2012, she recorded Thomas Sleeper’s Violin Concerto with the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra in the Czech Republic, released in 2014 on the Albany Label. Additionally, she has performed the National Anthem on numerous occasions at Miami Dolphins football games. Most recently, she was featured as a soloist in John Gottsch’s Princess Yurievskaya, featuring South Florida Symphony Orchestra, and released in 2021 on the Naxos Label.

As a committed violin pedagogue, many of Ms. Chen’s students are frequent winners at both local and international competitions. Many are now attending top music schools such as The Curtis Institute of Music and Juilliard School, and many others are now members of professional orchestras. Ms. Chen teaches violin at the New World School of the Arts in Miami and at the Dreyfoos School of the Arts in West Palm Beach. During the summers, she performs and teaches at the Killington Music Festival in Vermont. In Summer 2025, she will be guest conducting at the Sewanee Music Festival in Tennessee.

Celebrate love in all its dramatic, poetic, erotic, scandalous and insatiable forms as South Florida Symphony Orchestra (SFSO) presents an adventurous Valentine’s Day program featuring three orchestra premieres, headlined by the return of R. Strauss’ Don Juan. Led by SFSO’s award-winning music director Sebrina María Alfonso and featuring soprano Amy Shoremount-Obra, the concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, February 14, at the Tennessee Williams Theatre at The College of the Florida Keys.

Don Juan is a swashbuckling escapade that both scandalized and delighted audiences with its eroticism and ultra-modern style when it premiered in 1889, cementing Richard Strauss’ (1864-1949) fame as the genius of his generation, making him a favorite among musical modernists. Meanwhile, his Four Last Songs, a SFSO premiere featuring soprano Amy Shoremount-Obra, is a touchingly beautiful and serene masterpiece, bidding farewell to an illustrious career.

Top Prize Winner of the 2018 Gerda Lissner Foundation International Vocal Competition Wagner Division, soprano Amy Shoremount-Obra has garnered major attention for her work on the operatic and concert stage. She made her Carnegie Hall debut in 2005 as a soloist in Brahms’ Requiem with The Juilliard Orchestra under the baton of the late James DePreist, her Metropolitan Opera debut in 2014 as “First Lady” in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, singing all nine performances of the opera, three of which were Sirius XM Satellite Broadcasts and David Geffen Hall in Lincoln Center debut as a soloist in Verdi’s Requiem with the National Chorale. In 2018, she made her debut with the Orquesta Filarmónica del Estado de Chihuahua in Mexico in a solo concert of arias from Il Trovatore, Nabucco, Tannhäuser, and Turandot. Ms. Shoremount-Obra made her European Operatic debut in 2004 as “Ifigenia” in Handel’s Oreste at the Spoleto Festival, Italy. She has performed numerous operatic roles with a variety of operas and performance groups including Opera Grand Rapids, The American Symphony Orchestra, the LA Philharmonic, Grand Harmonie in Princeton, NJ, Odyssey Opera of Boston, Maryland Opera in Baltimore, New York Philharmonic and more. SFSO’s premiere of Hector Berlioz’s (1803-1869) tumultuous “King Lear Overture” (Le roi Lear), perhaps his grandest, most dramatic and atmospheric overture, recounts the dark Shakespearean tragedy of man and a kingdom divided by love and politics.

Now in its 27th season celebrating Icons & Rebels, SFSO invites audiences to tantalizing upcoming works by Mozart, Berlioz, Prokofiev and Bruckner.

From sold-out masterworks performances to accompanying today’s musicians such as Natalie Merchant and performing modern musical scores, South Florida’s largest symphonic orchestra is continuing its journey of excellence inspiring audiences of all ages and musical genres. She has performed numerous operatic roles with a variety of operas and performance groups including Opera Grand Rapids, The American Symphony Orchestra, the LA Philharmonic, Grand Harmonie in Princeton, NJ, Odyssey Opera of Boston, Maryland Opera in Baltimore, New York Philharmonic and more. A champion of new music, Shoremount-Obra has premiered/collaborated with some of today’s most popular and notable composers including Tarik O’Regan, Dan Visconti, John Zorn, and Paola Prestini. She is a 2004 New York Regional Winner and National Semi-Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. She has also won numerous awards from other organizations, including the Richard F. Gold Career Grant from the Shoshana Foundation and has since been supported with supplemental grants from the same foundation. She is the 2016 winner of the Ursula Springer Award from the Wagner Society of New York and together with pianist Christopher Cooley, the 2019 Second Prize Winner in the Joy In Singing International Art Song Competition.

The program also features SFSO’s premiere of Austrian composer Johann Strauss II’s (1825-1899) The Blue Danube, the world’s most famous waltz. Originally written as a choral piece for the Vienna Men’s Choral Association, Strauss adapted it for orchestra soon after it debuted. Epitomizing the symphonic richness and variety of Strauss’s dance music, it ultimately earned him acclaim as the “waltz king,” and has become the best-known of his many dance pieces.

SFSO’s premiere of Hector Berlioz’s (1803-1869) tumultuous “King Lear Overture” (Le roi Lear), perhaps his grandest, most dramatic and atmospheric overture, recounts the dark Shakespearean tragedy of man and a kingdom divided by love and politics.

Now in its 27th season celebrating Icons & Rebels, SFSO invites audiences to tantalizing upcoming works by Mozart, Berlioz, Prokofiev and Bruckner.

South Florida Symphony Orchestra (SFSO) invites patrons to celebrate South Florida community leaders and support its impactful artistic, educational, and community outreach initiatives during this year’s “Glitter and Be Gay Gala” to be held on Thursday, January 16, at Broward Center for the Performing Arts. The gala will directly precede the Symphony’s 7:30 p.m. premiere performance of the dazzling spectacle of Leonard Bernstein’s satirical masterpiece Candide.

This separately ticketed formal gala evening will recognize Distinguished Corporate Leader honoree Mark Kravitz, president of Jenco Properties (owner of Aviah Flagler Village) and Sound of Success honorees BBX Capital Foundation, Alejandro Blasenheim, Shelly Bradshaw of Broward Center for the Performing Arts, Community Foundation of Broward, Funding Arts Broward, Kate and Brent Nelson, Nicklaus Children’s Health System and David Valkema of the Maval Foundation. These individuals have been instrumental in supporting SFSO’s impactful community outreach and programming initiatives.

Festivities begin at 5 p.m. and include bubbles and hors d’oeuvres on the Wendt Terraces courtesy of Provocativo Cava Brut, a multi-course dinner in the Mary N. Porter Riverview Ballroom and the Candide performance at 7:30 p.m. in the Au-Rene Theater.

The evening begins at 8 PM with a performance by the Orchestra Miami string quartet, performing festive music to get you in the holiday mood. At 10 PM, Orchestra Miami, led by Artistic Director Elaine Rinaldi will take the stage with our special guests for a captivating performance, leading up to a dazzling fireworks display at midnight.
Three-time Latin GRAMMY®-nominated group Negroni’s Trio, (José Negroni, piano, Nomar Negroni, drums & Josh Allen, bass), infuses a modern and creative touch to jazz, pop and Latin classics. Negroni’s Trio have performed on stages throughout the world, including many U.S. & international jazz festivals, as well as New York’s world-famous Blue Note Jazz Club. Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, soprano Marinel Cruz has been captivating audiences worldwide thanks to her exceptional voice and powerful interpretations. Among her outstanding achievements is recognition for her outstanding career in the “Miami Latino MLMTV International Awards”, along with prizes in several prestigious competitions, such as The Marcello Giordani International Vocal Competition, the Miami Classical Singer Competition, and the Monserrat Caballé Competition in Spain.

South Florida Pride Youth Band Season 14 presented by FLoatarama – high school students from the tri-county area will join forces with members of the South Florida Pride Concert Band, the bridge-building power of music in our community. Ten or more $1,500 college scholarships will be awarded to members of the Youth Band. Carole Ann Taylor, affectionately known as CAT, is Miami’s most soulful jazz and cabaret singer. A connoisseur of classic jazz, she began her musical journey singing in her father’s historic Baptist church in Harlem and later at Central State University. Her professional career took off in the 1960s, performing at iconic venues like the 21 Club and major festivals across cities such as New York, Cleveland, Washington, D.C., and Miami. In 1970, she received a five-year contract from Duke Ellington and studied under his vocal coach, Luther Henderson. CAT has shared the stage with legendary artists like Lionel Hampton, Cedar Walton, Buck Clayton, and many more, making a lasting impact on the jazz scene.

After taking a 30-year hiatus to raise her sons and run her businesses, CAT made a triumphant return to the stage, performing at venues such as the Little Haiti Cultural Center, Sunny Isles Jazz Festival, and the Betsy Hotel. SFSO’s 2024 holiday program will open with a selection of Holiday Pops festive favorites including “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” “Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire),” “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” “Ocho Kandalikas,” “Ave Maria” (Schubert), and “Dreidel Song.” Audiences are also invited to sing along to a special medley of cherished classics – “Jingle, Bells,” “Silent Night,” “Joy to the World” and more.

South Florida Symphony Orchestra (SFSO), led by the award-winning Sebrina María Alfonso, will launch its riveting 2024-25 Icons & Rebels Masterworks season with “100 Years of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue,” an anniversary tribute to one of popular culture’s most beloved masterpieces, featuring acclaimed pianist Benjamin Hochman, the orchestra premiere of Prokofiev’s The Love for Three Oranges Suite and Elgar’s Symphony No. 1. The program will take place on Saturday, November 16, at 7:30 p.m., at New World Center (500 17th St., Miami Beach).

Celebrating 100 years of Rhapsody in Blue, George Gershwin shocked critics who did not know how to process the unconventional work when it debuted in 1924. Gershwin’s melding of American jazz and classical music broke boundaries and shattered norms. Today, he is revered as one of the greatest American composers of all time. Acclaimed pianist Benjamin Hochman lends his talents to the masterpiece.

In all roles, from orchestral soloist, recitalist and chamber musician to conductor, Benjamin Hochman regards music as vital and essential. At 24, he debuted as a soloist with the Israel Philharmonic at Carnegie Hall conducted by Pinchas Zukerman. Orchestral appearances with the New York Philharmonic, Chicago and Pittsburgh Symphonies, and Prague Philharmonia soon followed. A winner of Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Career Grant, Hochman has performed at venues and festivals across the globe, including the Philharmonie in Berlin, Vienna Konzerthaus, the Kennedy Center in Washington, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, Germany’s Klavierfestival Ruhr, and Lucerne and Verbier festivals in Switzerland. Despite a medical setback in 2015 affecting his left hand, he pursued a conductor’s role, studying with Alan Gilbert at Juilliard where he received the Bruno Walter Scholarship and the Charles Schiff Award. He created the Roosevelt Island Orchestra, consisting of some of New York’s finest orchestral and chamber musicians alongside promising young talent from top conservatories. In 2018, fully recovered, he returned to the piano. Hochman’s recent highlights include conducting the Szeged Philharmonic in Hungary and the Orlando Philharmonic in Florida. He also appeared as a piano soloist in Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Rheinische Staatsphilharmonie conducted by Benjamin Shwartz in Germany. His chamber music collaborations have taken him to Berlin, Budapest, Vancouver, Boston, Seattle, Dallas, Charlottesville, The Clark in Massachusetts, and Brown University. He curates the Kurtág Festival at Bard College New York. His new classical album, Resonance, will be released by Avie Records on Nov. 1.

Sergei Prokofiev, unorthodox and inventive, is known for his neo-classical, modernist approach. His The Love for Three Oranges Suite, taken from his comedic opera, is a whimsical musical jaunt about a cursed prince who is forced to journey to distant lands in search of three rather large oranges, each containing a princess. Will the affable prince break the curse and find his ‘main squeeze’ or run out of juice along the way?

A symphony in A-flat major? Quite rare indeed. Sir Edward Elgar’s Symphony No. 1 stands out as a remarkable exception in this regard. As a violinist, Elgar understood the challenges of playing in A-flat, yet that’s what he boldly composed in his first symphony, which beautifully explores the universal human experiences of love and hope.

Now in its 27th season, SFSO invites audiences to a tantalizing season featuring upcoming works by Mozart, Strauss and Berlioz, plus a glorious Handel’s Messiah performance and an eagerly anticipated orchestra premiere of Bernstein’s satirical masterpiece Candide. The concerts will take place in Fort Lauderdale, Miami and Key West.

From sold-out masterworks performances to accompanying today’s musicians such as Natalie Merchant and performing modern musical scores, South Florida’s largest symphonic orchestra is continuing its journey of excellence inspiring audiences of all ages and musical genres. This season’s popular collaborations include performances of ARRIVAL From Sweden: The Music of ABBA and Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, featuring the iconic film screened live with audio and musical accompaniment on October 26 at Broward Center for the Performing Arts.

Popular Ukrainian rock band NERVY will play their first time concert in Miami.

NERVY is no longer the future of rock music, this is today’s rock, leading a whole generation of listeners who are not indifferent to the fate of live concerts. Over the course of 15 years of activity, the musicians have released 7 albums, more than 20 music videos and won many music awards.

The band’s new tour, like all activities of the musicians over the past 2.5 years, is aimed at raising funds in support of the Ukrainian army and humanitarian aid.

With the beginning of war in Ukraine NERVY stopped their activities in Russia and left the country. In March 2022, NERVY and their artist friends organized charity concerts in Warsaw, the money from these concerts was donated to help Ukraine. Also at these concerts the band presented their first Ukrainian-language song about the war in Ukraine – “Vtomyvsya”.

With their active anti-war position and donations to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the band in Russia was included in the list of extremists. This title from Putin’s Russia confirmed the musicians that they were doing everything right.

We are honored to welcome Mirta Gómez del Valle, a luminary in the field of photography for October’s collaboARTive Noche de Arte series. With an illustrious career that includes prestigious fellowships from the Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, and many others, Ms. Gómez del Valle’s work has been showcased at major institutions such as The Museum of Modern Art in New York and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.

For the October 7th Opening Reception of her residency, she has invited Miami-based contemporary dance artist Nicole Pedraza to perform in the Gallery Lounge. We will also enjoy a musical performance from Miami-based electronica/dark ambient/avant-garde jazz ensemble “Atomic Theatre.”

As part of her residency, Ms. Gómez del Valle has graciously offered to conduct portfolio reviews for early to mid-career photographers and artists. Each review will last 45 minutes and will take place at the Gallery Lounge during October 2024. As always, Noche de Arte is open to the public and free to attend.

Tri-Rail, South Florida’s premier commuter rail system, invites talented young singers, ages 5 to 17, to audition for the annual “South Florida’s Kids Got Talent” competition, to be held at the Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS) (401 SW 2nd Street, Fort Lauderdale). Auditions will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 23, offering participants from Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties the chance to showcase their vocal abilities and compete for a spot in the 2025 final event.

Tri-Rail’s “South Florida’s Kids Got Talent” competition has become a signature event, uniting children and families across the region. All performers aged 5 to 17 that reside in South Florida are invited to audition. Each act will have up to four minutes to perform in front of a panel of judges who will select the finalists for the main competition in February 2025, during Tri-Rail’s 16th annual “Rail Fun Day,” presented by Herzog. Judges will score based on vocal range, stage presence, and style.

Over the years, “Rail Fun Day” has grown into a beloved community event in Dania Beach, featuring interactive activities, food trucks, cookie decorating, face painting, and more. Last year’s event saw ten-year-old Samantha Schmerling take home the grand prize with her vocal performance, earning her $500, a one-year contract inclusive of a photo shoot with composite cards courtesy of Posche Models & Talent, and a professional studio recording session with MikeSoperMusic.

Since its origins twelve years ago, the evolution of Cortadito has led it to become one of the torchbearers of a pop culture phenomenon that is two centuries strong. A traditional folk and acoustic band that focuses on performing one of the earliest styles of Cuban country music known as Son (pronounced sOwn), their sound can best be described as reminiscent of the famed Buena Vista Social Club.

This dynamic, Miami-based ensemble has been joined on stage by Grammy and Latin Grammy award-winning singer Aymeé Nuviola, world-renowned flutist Nestor Torres, and has performed with legendary member of Buena Vista Social Club, Eliades Ochoa. In October of 2022, the group was invited to perform at the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.

Mattos’ performance celebrates the rich cultural heritage that has shaped jazz. With his technical mastery and deep understanding of the genre, Mattos will take you on a musical journey that will leave you wanting more.

Born into a musical family, Angel David Mattos studied at the San Juan School of Music, University of Illinois, and Berklee School of Music. He has performed internationally with other jazz greats such as Dave Valentin, Alex Acuña, and David Sánchez. A faculty member of the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico, he was inducted this year into the Puerto Rico Music Hall of Fame.

Singer-songwriter Steven Page, a founding member of the legendary Barenaked Ladies, headlines the 15th Anniversary Ghost Light Society Soirée Presented by UKG on Saturday, September 28 from 7 to 11 p.m. at The Parker, 707 N.E. 8th Street in Fort Lauderdale.

The Ghost Light Society’s annual Soirée is one of the hottest tickets in town for young philanthropists and community and business leaders. This year’s event, “A Broadway Bash”, evokes the glamour, excitement and allure of Broadway, all to shine a spotlight on arts in education at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. In addition to an intimate performance by Steven Page, guests will enjoy the red-carpet treatment with delicious food, premium open bar, dancing and more, all onstage at The Parker, which was South Florida’s first Broadway theater beginning in 1967.

As a co-founder, vocalist and songwriter for Barenaked Ladies, Steven Page sang and wrote classics like “Brian Wilson,” “If I Had a Million Dollars,” “What A Good Boy,” “It’s All Been Done” and many more. With the band, he sold over 15 million albums and scored multiple Junos, Billboard Music Awards and two Grammy nominations. After leaving the band in 2009, he embarked on a solo career that has produced five albums and seen him tour worldwide, including a recent string of dates opening for rock legends The Who.

Dead Man Walking is an opera by acclaimed composer, Jake Heggie, based on the book and film interpretation of the same name. It’s a powerful retelling of the true story that has profoundly influenced the ongoing debate on the death penalty in America. Settle in for a spectacular live opera experience by Miami Beach Classical Music Festival.

When a New Orleans-based Catholic nun agrees to become pen pals with an inmate convicted of murder on death row, her entire worldview on life, death, forgiveness, and capital punishment is challenged forever.

Heggie will be in residence to work with MMF’s Opera Institute cast to help tell this poignant story featuring a libretto by Tony-award-winning Terrance McNally (Masterclass, Ragtime).

Corteo, the most enchanting arena production from Cirque du Soleil is heading to Sunrise, set to charm audiences. This unique production, directed by Daniele Finzi Pasca, first premiered in Montreal in April 2005. Since its creation, the show has amazed over 10 million spectators, in 20 countries, on 4 continents. Corteo will be presented at the Amerant Bank Arena for 12 shows only from July 11th to 21st, 2024.

Corteo, which means cortege in Italian, is a joyous procession, a festive parade imagined by a clown. The Collins Park Neighborhood Association and the Global Arts Project present Argentine vocalist Jimena Fama May 26 in Liberty PLaza, Miami Beach.

Jimena Fama is an Argentine composer, multi-instrumentalist and producer based in New York and London. Her ingenious music offers a unique harmony of expressive vocals, bandoneon or guitar melodies over her creative approach to regional rhythms.

Her songs were selected by labels in the UK, Germany, Denmark, France, Portugal, Switzerland, New Zealand, US, and Canada. She is currently working on her first film as a writer, director, co-producer and composer, and is thrilled to have just received a grant and support from the Government of the City of Buenos Aires and Itau to build together a dream project featuring the Culture of Argentina at its best.

She is a Peugeot Artist and is endorsed by Avid Technology and UltimateEarsPro In-Ear monitors. She was selected featured Artist in “ALTA,” Aerolineas Argentinas’ Inflight Magazine, naming her Tango Ambassador.

Experience the electrifying fusion of passion and rhythm as the world-renowned Siudy Garrido Flamenco Company, led by acclaimed dancer and choreographer Siudy Garrido, joins forces, once again, with Maestra Sebrina María Alfonso and South Florida Symphony Orchestra (SFSO) for the return of the critically acclaimed flamenco dance-theater production, Amor Brujo. The one-night-only event occurs on Saturday, June 15, at 8 p.m., at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, Knight Concert Hall.

The star-studded production also features notable screen actor and Broadway star George Akram. Akram gained recognition for his portrayal of Bernardo in the hit Broadway revival of West Side Story from 2008-2011, making history for being in the longest-running Broadway production of West Side Story and winning a GRAMMY for Best Musical Theater album. Also featured is Latin GRAMMY nominee Argentina López, and acclaimed flamenco virtuoso José Manuel Álvarez.

This evocative collaboration brings to life the passionate narrative of Candela, a grieving widow who finds new love amidst the presence of her husband’s ghost. Based on “El Amor Brujo” by Manuel de Falla, Amor Brujo bridges the beauty of flamenco artistry and classical music, setting the stage for a mesmerizing journey.

In 2015, Gustavo Dudamel and the LA Phil commissioned Amor Brujo, which opened to four sold-out performances at Walt Disney Concert Hall. In 2018, a sold-out performance with South Florida Symphony Orchestra occurred at Miami’s Arsht Center.

For the 2024 performances, Siudy Garrido has restaged Amor Brujo and will premiere a new section that features flamenco compositions by José Luis de la Paz, inspired by the lead characters of “El Amor Brujo.” In the new section, Maestro José Luis dela Paz’s arrangements for Spanish guitar explore flamenco styles such as “Seguirilla” and “Guajiras,” adding depth and richness to the performance.

Join IlluminArts and “golden-toned baritone” (NY Times) Jesse Blumberg for Love’s Magic, a mesmerizing musical exploration of the beauty and mystery of love. From the joy of new love to the melancholy of love lost, this program highlights the power that music has to unearth the deepest human emotions.

This program is centered around selections from Ricky Ian Gordon’s Green Sneakers, a song cycle for baritone and string quartet that was written specifically for Jesse Blumberg. In this song cycle, the composer explores the life and love of his late husband, who passed away during the AIDS crisis.

Born and raised in Perú, DJ Gary G was influenced by Latin rhythms, rock and roll, EDM, Drum & Bass, and others. Like most drummers, DJ Gary began by playing rock and metal. He is a self-taught drummer who started in 2012 with his unique style combining live percussion with djing, using bongos, congas, timbales, and the Afro-Peruvian box. He moved to Miami in 2021 and has played in lounges like Osaka, Baires, and Tanuki.

Launched in 2023, Third Horizon Forward is an initiative created for filmmakers working out of Miami who trace their lineage to the Caribbean, to interrogate and explore the culture, character, spirit, people, and legacy of the region through film. These short films have an authentic, enduring, and vital connection to the region Third Horizon calls home.

Let the hopeful, romantic sounds of South Florida Symphony Orchestra (SFSO)’s popular Summer with the Symphony chamber series enchant you this summer. The intimate evening concerts return to South Florida from May 16 through July 23. After the dazzling performances, attendees will have the opportunity to meet the talented musicians and enjoy champagne and light bites at a complimentary reception.

May’s “Eternal Sunshine” program features the radiant sounds of Piano Quartet No. 1 by Gabriel Fauré and Johannes Brahms. Faure’s quartet in C minor, Op. 15 has the unique harmonies and gorgeous melodies aficionados of the French composer have come to expect. Brahms’ quartet in G minor, Op. 25 was his introduction to the Viennese musical elite and is known for its exhilarating finale. Musicians Huifang Chen (violin), Claudio Jaffe (cello), Tao Lin (piano), and Brandon Wu (viola) will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, at Coral Gables Congregational United Church of Christ (3010 De Soto Blvd. Coral Gables).

From sold-out masterworks performances to accompanying today’s musicians such as Natalie Merchant and performing modern musical scores including Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone ™ In Concert and Classical Mystery Tour: A Symphonic Tribute to The Beatles, South Florida’s largest symphonic orchestra is continuing its journey of excellence inspiring audiences of all ages and musical genres.
