The Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami (MOCA) is offering a monthly series known as Creative Arts 4 Kids, which occurs the first Saturday of every month. These creative art classes are offered for kids ages 6 through 12. Each month, the class will have a different theme to help kids learn about the elements of art through painting, drawing and sculpting activities in the style of renowned artists.

For Feburary, the theme is Super Spiders & Webs inspired by Louise Bourgeois. The activity for the children is Mixed Media Sculptures. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to stay and create with their children.

Miami Dade College’s (MDC) historic Koubek Center, su casa de cultura, continues its bilingual family series, Playtime: Días de las Familias, with a grand holiday celebration, Fiesta Navideña! (Christmas Celebration) on Saturday, Dec. 17, noon – 4 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

Fiesta Navideña features Latin Grammy-nominated Cuban producer, teacher, and voice coach Rita Rosa–renowned for her bilingual music programs–leading a sing-along called “Villancicos y Chocolate.” Other activities will include storytime with Teatro Prometeo; ornament craft-making; an elf-led Santa letter writing station; and a toy drive benefitting the local charity Amigos for Kids. Food (tamales, churros con chocolate) and drinks will be available for purchase, as will valet parking.

Playtime provides parents an engaging way for their children to learn and practice Spanish. The fun and interactive family days highlights the diverse arts, crafts, literary histories, music and dance of the city’s many Hispanic cultures. Children are invited to sing, dance, create and speak together en español. The series launched with a festive bang–a Dia de los Muertos celebration, and continued with Las Aventuras del Don Quixote, presenting a children’s version of the book as well as related games and imaginative activities.

The “Holiday on the Mile” Parade is the perfect way to end the Thanksgiving weekend and kickoff the holiday season with loved ones. Koubek Center Launches Free Bilingual Family Series
Monthly Activities En Español Kick Off with a ‘Dia De Los Muertos’ Celebration!

Miami Dade College’s Koubek Center, su casa de cultura, launches its new bilingual family series, Playtime: Días de las Familias, from Noon – 4 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 22, with a Día de Los Muertos celebration. This event is free and open to the public.

The series fills an important niche in Miami, as it provides parents an engaging (and free) way for their children to learn and practice Spanish. The fun and interactive family days will highlight the diverse arts, crafts, literary histories, and music and dance of the city’s many Hispanic cultures. Children will be invited to sing, dance, create and speak together en Español.

Playtime begins with a festive bang–a Dia de los Muertos celebration. With help from The Puppet Network, Ameyal Cultural Center, and the Mexican Cultural Institute in Miami, activities will include a puppet parade; thematic face painting and craft making (skull masks and papel picado: paper decorated with cut-outs); live Mexican folkloric music and dance performances and storytelling; an ofrenda (Day of the Dead altar) exhibit; a musical instrument petting zoo and more! Mexican food will be available for purchase.

The Playtime series continues on November 12 with Aventuras de Don Quixote (Adventures of Don Quixote).

The 2016-17 Season marks a new chapter in Koubek Center’s history–one in which the venue realizes its own programming. In addition to Playtime: Dias Familiares, Koubek Center’s signature series include Little Havana Social Club, concert/dance parties in the gardens and En Residencia, an artist-in-residency initiative aligning art with activism, artist with community.

When we think of Christmas time it often conjures up thoughts of cold snowy nights, beautiful fur coats, and sipping hot cocoa by the fire place. But for most Miami kids those thoughts will never be a reality… But not this year! For the first time ever have your kids experience Winter in Miami with Santa Claus & Elsa at Drinkhouse Fire & Ice, Miami’s first Ice Bar. Bring the kids for a whimsical afternoon with a very classy and merry Santa Claus. Children will be able to take photos with jolly ol’ Saint Nick, meet Frozen’s Elsa, and explore our winter ice cavern filled with a jaw-dropping 100,000 pounds of pristine ice, while drinking endless amounts of hot cocoa and munching on holiday cookies. Children will be fitted with a winter coat, gloves, and hats if necessary. Children must attend with an adult. Adults Basic Entry ($15) includes access to the ice bar, along with designer faux fur coats, hats, gloves, and shoes. Adults Premium Entry ($20) includes access to the ice bar, designer faux fur coats, hats, gloves along with 1 cocktail beverage in an ice glass while in the ice bar. Photos via iPhones are welcome, but printed professional photos with Santa are also available for purchase.

In fact, life is not about getting to a certain place on the floor, it’s enjoying the steps and interactions of others along the way!

Built for short, high-powered bursts of speed, Monster Jam trucks generate 1,500 to 2,000 horsepower and are capable of speeds of up to 100 miles per hour. You’ll be at the edge of your seat as you watch these Monster Jam trucks fly 125 to 130 feet in distance (a distance greater than 14 cars side by side) and up to 35 feet in the air.

Not enough action? For the first time ever we’ve added a second Pit Party! The Pit Party will be held on Aug. 13 and Aug. 14 from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. and will give fans the opportunity to get a view of the trucks up close and meet the drivers of the massive Monster Jam trucks. Entrance to the pits requires a pit pass and a corresponding 2 p.m. event ticket on both Saturday and Sunday. This summer, Manatee Lagoon will give kids a peek under the sea and the lagoon with marine-themed storytime every Thursday during Manatee Tales & More. The Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami (MOCA), is offering creative art classes for kids ages 6 through 12. These classes will each offer a different theme to help kids experiment with a variety of art and design techniques in a creative environment. They are taught by gifted art professionals and all projects will be inspired by great works of art, dating from antiquity to the present day.

Come Aboard the International Space Station gives children the opportunity to draw, paint, and construct robots and space ships, as they study science fiction classics, the NASA space program and discoveries in astronomy.

Good afternoon! I am a research assistant at the Infant Development Lab at FIU under Dr. Lorraine Bahrick.

Our lab conducts federally-funded research on infant and child development. Currently, we are recruiting a select group of highly motivated and interested parents of 2 to 3-month-olds to be part of an important, new project. Mothers and their children would become part of establishing norms for the typical development of attention and perception, while also learning more about their own child’s development. Parents will be compensated with $30 each visit and $300 at the end of the study.

Starting this summer, Manatee Lagoon is offering patrons onsite art classes twice weekly, providing class participants sweeping waterfront vistas of the Lake Worth Lagoon to help channel their creative energies. Adult classes are on Friday evenings; children’s classes are Saturday afternoons. Local artist and Manatee Lagoon “Manatee Master” Hannah Cooper, will lead the classes.

Beginning on Friday, June 10, for adults and Saturday, June 11, for children ages 6-12, guests will be invited to learn about the Lagoon and its ecosystem though artistic expression. Adults will paint a different Lake Worth Lagoon species each week, while simultaneously learning about that particular animal’s place in the overall local ecosystem. Adults will leave each class with their original canvas.

Children’s art activities will vary and include seascapes on canvas or coconuts, drawing food cycles, water colors, sculpting and crafts. Adults and children alike will learn art techniques such as mixing colors and shading while at the same time gain an understanding of the scientific wonders of the area’s animals and habitats.

On Fridays, guests experience a creative and relaxing night out, and on Saturdays, the beautiful scenery, free coffee and Wi-Fi help parents while away the time as their children have fun with art and science. Classes are $30 per two-hour session for adults; $15 for each 90-minute children’s class. The registration fee covers all supplies. The Little Dreams Foundation (LDF) will be hosting its annual open musical auditions for children from 4 to 16 years old at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in the Paradise Live Theater. Little Dreamers receive private lessons, and coaching and will perform live at the annual Dreaming on the Beach Gala. Terra Group and The Related Group, the development team bringing the Park Grove community to the Coconut Grove neighborhood come 2018, gave back to its future community by sponsoring the kids at Coconut Grove Cares to an evening of fun and sports—over 100 of them.

The pre-construction development, which also happens to be the future home of a key figure from the Miami Heat, rented two buses and purchased over 100 tickets to bring the kids of Coconut Cares to watch the city’s most beloved team.

David Martin, President and Co-founder of Terra Group and Cathy Strafaci, Director of Sales at Park Grove, gave the kids their tickets to the game at the Barnyard at Coconut Grove Cares, who, in turn, presented them with a big thank you card for taking them to the game.

The buses then shuttled the kids off to American Airlines Arena for the Heat game and returned them back to the Barnyard at Coconut Grove Cares following for their parents to then bring them home.

This is the first in a series of efforts for the future residency, Park Grove, to give back to its community.

International Migratory Bird Day is FREE and open to the public

Tropical Audubon Society and its Steinberg Nature Center will be the site of International Migratory Bird Day (IMBD) celebrations on Saturday, March 5, from noon until 4 p.m. An array of engaging educational activities for participants of all ages will mark the migration of nearly 350 species of migratory birds between non-breeding grounds in the Caribbean, South America and Mexico, and their nesting habitats in North America.

Featuring interactive games and prizes, and led by a host of bird experts, the free festival is an enriching experience for families with young children, Ecology Clubs and anyone looking for a pleasant afternoon outing. Attendees will learn why bird conservation is an imperative, and how taking a few simple steps in our own yards to create a welcoming “rest stop” will also enhance quality of life in South Florida.

In addition to other planned festivities, participants can learn how to identify birds by their silhouettes, craft a Wildlife T-shirt, purchase native plants and explore the trails that thread the Hardwood Hammock and Pine Rockland grounds. Architecture buffs can tour the 1931 Doc Thomas House, which serves as TAS headquarters and was recently named to The National Register of Historic Places.

Relief printing is the process of cutting or etching a surface in a way that all that remains of the original surface is the design to be printed. Examples of relief-printing processes include woodcut, linocut, metal cut and even potato cut! YoungArts Alumnus Jason Moran (1993 Winner in Jazz) is bringing an inspired blend of jazz, skateboarding and new media to the YoungArts Campus. Join us for an intimate Salon about Moran’s creative inspiration, sponsored by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, where Moran will meet iconic street skater and childhood hero Mark Gonzales (also known as “Gonz” or “The Gonz”) for the first time. Often called the Salvador Dali of skateboarding, Gonz has been credited with reinventing the wheel for street skaters and bringing street skating to the forefront with a 1984 cover for Thrasher magazine.

Following the talk, Moran will share a site-specific iteration of this body of work replete with a carved-out half-bowl, half-pipe ramp installed on the Plaza in a family-friendly, multidisciplinary Outside the Box performance on the YoungArts Plaza. Cutting and pasting these images in repetitive Warhol style and using assorted colors of cellophane (Art deco colors: turquoise, yellow and pink!) to adorn the flowers and building, festival-goers will see the Bass in a whole new light!

Jamie’s Rescue
Jamie’s is a non-profit dog rescue in Miami, Florida. Their mission is to continue placing dogs and puppies that would remain on the streets or euthanized at local shelters. They have placed thousands of dogs in loving homes. They will have puppies presented in the Arf Deco parade that are available for adoption.

Sprouted Chef
Playing with produce, -Children will have the opportunity to build their-own gourmet lunch. Roasted carrot hotdogs and roasted strawberry pies. Sprouted chef is a culinary service dedicated to healthy living and supporting the local community and its environment.

Trump National Doral is inviting families to come together and bond while building their own gingerbread houses. Located in the Living Room from 11am – 2pm, Executive Pastry Chef, John Luciano, will guide families step-by-step as each family creates their own one-of-a-kind gingerbread house. Adult and child duo reservation is priced at $85 and supplies will be provided.
