Karen Gonzalez, Lead vocals

After having a near death experience at age 5. Karen awoke with a new ability to sing. The influences of Classic Soul and Jazz singers helped open her voice. After graduating from University of NY at Stony Brook she and began singing in orchestras around New York. She moved to Miami and studied music theater at New World School of the Arts Miami. Becoming a yoga teacher exposed her to mantra music and its power to heal. She created Mantra Grooves after an inspiring dream of how music would be a force to change peoples hearts and consequently the world. Today she leads others in opening their voices and hearts as the singer for Mantra Grooves.

Kamran was Influenced by all the sounds of the 70s in England where he was raised by East Asian parents mixed with the Ethnic music of his culture. He fell in love with Guitar at the age of 13 and created an original rock band in London during his high school years. Later focusing more on writing in Acoustic ensembles he formed Inside Eye and Isha, playing meditation retreats and the Miami clubs. Studying Classical guitar and Voice with Maestro Gil Magno he now enjoys composing Meditative music with Mantra Grooves playing reverb and delay drenched guitar as a backdrop to the hypnotic and healing trance of Mantras.

Gino has been involved with percussion since being gifted with his first set of bongos at age 7. But this is now, and Wes is incredibly excited about being introduced to the amazing world of chants and mantras. He is also thoroughly appreciative of his fantastic bandmates, who have been open, instructional and nurturing, as he explores, what for him, is a whole new musical path.

Virginia Jimenez is a transformation & relationship coach inspiring connectedness and freedom to create an extraordinary life professional and personally. Throughout her transformation and research, Virginia found that connecting with people and managing relationships is essential to creating a life of abundance and life-long prosperity. Her own relationship ‘failures’ were thriving experiences and an opportunity to understanding the importance of effective communication, knowing oneself and an increased-level of awareness.

She’s on a mission to help others make powerful and prosperous life and love choices, to move forward and break through self-imposed limitations. Her most recent publication for single dad’s was featured in the Good Men’s Project January 2016.

The Galleria at Fort Lauderdale, recognized as one of South Florida’s premier shopping destinations for its sophisticated level of merchandising and ambiance, will launch a 6-week fitness series to celebrate the opening of Broward County’s first lululemon athletica. The Saturday series will kick-off on November 12 from 7:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. with special guests Hector Picard and the South Florida Firefighters Calendar 2017 firefighters.

Kick-off attendees will enjoy a free full hour yoga session led by Kate Yoga, as well as meet and greets with the South Florida Firefighters Calendar 2017 firefighters. The first 200 attendees to arrive at the event will receive complimentary yoga mats.

The series launch will also offer a meet and greet with local Broward resident and national role model for the disabled Hector Picard, who is on a mission to raise $50,000 for Broward Children’s Center, a caring home in Pompano for the most medically fragile and technologically dependent infants, children and young adults in the nation.

The fitness series will continue for five more weeks. The cost to attend these sessions will be $10 with all proceeds benefiting the Junior League of Greater Fort Lauderdale. The fitness lineup includes:

• November 19 at 8 a.m. – One hour yoga session with The Yoga Joint and Ina Lee, ‎owner/president at Travelhost Magazine. The first 100 paid registrants will receive a complimentary lululemon athletica headband.
• November 26 at 8 a.m. – One hour barre ballet class with Pure Barre.
• December 3 at 8 a.m. – One hour pilates class with Zoeli Pilates.
• December 10 at 8 a.m. – One hour yoga class with Red Pearl Yoga.
• December 17 at 8 a.m. – One hour yoga class with Bombay Room Yoga.

lululemon athletica opens at The Galleria on Tuesday, November 8. WYN 317 Gallery is pleased to present “Symbiotic Behaviour”, a series of new works by Miami based artist, Ernesto Maranje. This highly anticipated solo exhibition is Maranje’s second at WYN 317.

For this exhibition, Ernesto adds human portraits to some of his paintings stressing the oneness between humans, animals and plant life. Animal portraits also show a depth of shared connections with all living things. Behaviour is mutually dependent with other organisms, coexisting in harmony. Ernesto Maranje’s art is not only beautiful and unique, it also brings to life environmental issues by portraying symbiotic behaviour in all forms of life.

In conjunction with the exhibition, Ernesto Maranje created a mural on one of the main gallery walls that best summons the purpose of “Symbiotic Behaviour”.

The SaludArte Foundation announced today the opening of their new exhibit The Global South: Visions and Revisions from the Brillembourg Capriles Collection, during Art Basel Miami Beach. The exhibition will take place at Mana Wynwood from November 30th to December 4th, 2016. Curated by Adriana Herrera and Adolfo Wilson, it creates a nonlinear, non- chronological narrative about the history of geometric abstraction in Latin America and Ibero America. The exhibit brings together works of diverse times and generating new approaches to the way history has been told from the global north. Some of the pieces will be activated daily with music and dance performances by the Lisarco Collective. These performances invite the audience to interact with the collective providing them with a unique insight on the philosophy and mission of SaludArte, which is to bring art to everyone without boundaries or limitations of any kind.

Curated by Tumelo Mosaka, the AOT series is themed “SAY IT LOUD!” and will feature work by prominent contemporary artists Michael Paul Britto, Myra Greene, Joshua R. McFadden, Mario Pfeifer and Roberto Visani, and films by Bhawin Suchak & Ira McKinley and Stanley Nelson. “SAY IT LOUD!” is inspired by the James Brown song of the same name that addresses racial discrimination and calls for black empowerment. The call in this context is a rallying cry for all to mobilize against injustice and discrimination, as well as embrace black culture pride in the United States and African Diaspora. The artists explore a range of experiences that not only address the re-imagination and representation of blackness, but also examine the fear, trauma, and grief transpiring in black communities.

With her expertise in string instruments, Rachelle works magic to create amazing cover arrangements—acoustic or electric. In this role she played countless festivals including the Chicago Bluesfest and the Kerrville Texas Folk Festival, and opened for numerous acts like Johnny Winter, Coco Montoya and Koko Taylor. Miami is where she would make a life changing encounter with blues legend Buddy Guy. Since then, she has toured and performed with Super Chikan, Albert Castigila, Grady Champion, and Ray Drew.

Photographer Rena Effendi documented the living conditions of various refugee camps for those fleeing from the conflicts in the Middle East. She visited camps in Lebanon, Jordan and saw thousands stuck in a limbo by the border in Idomeni, Greece. Syrians, Iraqis, Afghans along with others were on their way to Europe, escaping the violence of war back home. More than twelve thousand people are currently stuck in a limbo, languishing in a wretched camp by the border. What once was a chance for a better life – the Crossing Point – has become a metaphor for human resilience at the face of hardship. Rena’s photographs capture not only the tragedy of this epic crisis, but more importantly, they capture the fortitude of the human spirit. In her own words, she is not looking to evoke pity and compassion only, but rather, respect and admiration for these people that have endured so much. Proceeds from the sales of The Crossing Point will benefit The Radcliffe Foundation Refugee Crisis Fund, which has been actively responding to the on-going refugee crisis by providing humanitarian aid to refugees in places like Greece and Turkey.

Miami, FL – October 25, 2016 – For the second consecutive year, Miami Parking Authority and Beefree Media are coming together for the award-winning Wynwood’s Park-Your-Art contest. Eight artists will be chosen to publicly paint a Pay-and-Display machine and seemingly unite the Wynwood community through this event.

Much like the 2015 contest, we are seeking emerging and established artists to submit an original artwork proposal that falls under the theme, “Wynwood United.” The theme will embody community members and businesses coming together.

To further our commitment to our community, we will also include new “little artists” and install artwork submitted by Miami-Dade elementary school students in restaurants, retail stores, art galleries, etc. to promote this initiative and bring hundreds of families to Wynwood.

“One of the many social benefits of art is the way it can unite and transform individuals and communities. At Miami Parking Authority, we are proud to be part of a project that builds community and enhances the lives of the people we serve,” said Alejandra Argudin, Chief Operation Officer.

Artwork will be judged upon the following criteria: originality of content, technique and creative interpretation of theme. Winners will be designated one Pay-and-Display machine that they will paint live on Saturday, November 19th, 2016. In addition, the machines will be covered with an anti-graffiti lamination so the design will stay fresh and unharmed.

“Not all communities rally around an event, but most will rally around a cause,” said Stuart Lujan, Managing Partner at Beefree. “This amazing project allows for the Wynwood community to contribute and grow stronger together.”

The artwork will be visible through the 2016 Miami Art Basel season and will remain displayed until the following Wynwood’s Park-Your-Art contest in 2017.

Miami Parking Authority and Beefree Media encourage people from throughout the U.S. to participate, get creative and engage the community. Submissions close on Friday, November 4th, 2016.

Chor Boogie returns to Miami with his latest political, multimedia works featured in American Banned, an art exhibition at Wynwood’s Macaya Gallery.

Three renowned contemporary artists, Chor Boogie, Stuart Sheldon, and Ashley Reid, present uncompromising visual political and social commentary in American Banned. Essentially nonpartisan, the collective body of work provokes political discourse, spurs citizens to participate in the political process, and examines systemic violence, racism, and oppression. Chor Boogie, one of the world’s foremost masters of the spray paint medium, will premier a series of original paintings, prints, and multimedia works: In God We Trust.

MDC Museum of Art + Design is pleased to present Sunkoo Yuh, Grafted Stories, featuring large scale ceramic sculptures by the South Korean born artist Sunkoo Yuh, curated by Miami Gallerist Mindy Solomon.

Sunkoo Yuh’s first museum solo exhibition in Miami will feature large scale ceramic sculptures, porcelain tiles and works on paper. Created over a twelve year period, the pieces interweave a tale of cultural integration, spiritual discovery, and creating order out of chaos. Yuh states: “The body of my work as an artist is to transform the images from my mind into tangible ceramic sculptures. The sculptures are sometimes monumental and then again sometimes small. My ceramic sculpture express not only physical realities but psychological realities at the same time, the sculptures also reflect my relationship with people and life experience around me, encompassing front and back, inside and outside, present and past memories”.

Yuh’s work is a reflection of the ongoing dialog he has with his day to day life. A cast of characters inform each sculpture and drawing- forming a bridge between his imagined reality and the travails he experiences as a bi-cultural citizen and artist. In essence the work is the “residue” of his attempts at securing a sense of permanency in a fluid world.

SunKoo Yuh is currently Associate Professor at the University of Georgia, Athens. He received his MFA from Alfred University. He has exhibited widely and has received many awards and honors. In 2005-03 he was the recipient of the Joan Mitchell Foundation grant, the Grand Prize at the 2nd World Ceramic Biennale International Competition, Icheon, Korea, The Elizabeth R. Raphael Founder’s Prize and the Virginia A. Groot Foundation. His work is in the collections of the Smithsonian Institution, Icheon World Ceramic Center, Korea, Oakland Museum of Art, California, and more.

Help Raise Funds for Hurricane Matthew Relief
Local businesses come together to organize a bake sale where all funds will go to help the women and girls of Haiti

This year South Florida residents were very lucky that Hurricane Matthew missed them. After seeing the devastation in Haiti, Daniella Biffi, Managing Director and Founder of Pollen Theory- a local PR firm, decided to bring together local businesses and members of the community to donate their products and services to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Matthew at a local bake sale.

Every last penny donated will go to Heart to Heart International, who’s PowrServ program helps women and girls by donating ”Women’s Hygiene Kits.” This organization is recognized for its dedication to strengthening communities by improving health access, humanitarian development and administering crisis relief worldwide. This charity ranks amongst the highest on the Charity Navigator website.

Bake Sale Information:

Why: Women and girls are particularly vulnerable in the developing world when there’s a crisis situation like a natural disaster. We wanted to focus our efforts in helping them deal with Hurricane Matthew’s devastation with dignity.

What: All proceeds will go to the PowrServ program, who puts together the women hygiene kits. Each kit includes: 2 pairs of underwear, 2 reusable menstrual pads, washbowl, 2 bars of soap, 4 condoms, a whistle, crank flashlight, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, Band-Aids, hand towel, wash cloth, nail clippers and the following educational materials: Menstrual Health, Stay Safe Use a Condom, Pad Use/Care, Stay Healthy Wash Your Hands.

The kits cost $20 each and are invaluable to these girls. Our goal is to raise enough money to provide 100 kits to the women and girls of Haiti.

Distinguished artist Ed Clark will speak in conversation with PAMM Director Franklin Sirmans about his lifelong practice as a painter and the many places and cultures that have influenced his expressive works. Ed Clark’s Pink Wave was acquired at the close of the inaugural year of the PAMM Fund for African American Art in 2015 and is currently on view in the Routes of Influence exhibition.

South Florida JAZZ presents the Etienne Charles Sextet November 5 at 8 PM. Trinidad-born and still in his 20s, trumpeter Etienne Charles is a compelling and exciting jazz artist ushering the jazz genre into groundbreaking territory His band and new album, Creole Soul, represents a captivating journey of new jazz expression, tapping into myriad styles rooted in his Afro-Caribbean background and plumbing the musical depths of the islands from calypso to Haitian voodoo music, and melding it with jazz. The results are electrifying!

Charles currently teaches jazz trumpet at Michigan State University. “As a person in the new world, I’ve been influenced by so much music. And my family has a mixed background of French, Caribbean, Spanish and African roots…. I come from a a fusion of rhythms, a fusion of cultures. That’s what this band is all about: a jazz-based focus on Creole soul music that is Creole at heart.”

Featuring: Etienne Charles – trumpet and percussion, Brian Hogans – saxophones, Victor Gould – piano, Alex Wintz – guitar, Jonathan Michel – bass, John Davis – drums

The Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami (MOCA) is offering a monthly series known as Creative Arts 4 Kids, which occurs the first Saturday of every month. These creative art classes are offered for kids ages 6 through 12. Each month, the class will have a different theme to help kids learn about the elements of art through painting, drawing and sculpting activities in the style of renowned artists.

For November, the theme is Things Appear When Uncovered, inspired by Banksy. The activity for the children is Stencil Compositions. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to stay and create with their children.

The time has come for the annual October National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, when pink is the color of choice, and at Tino’s, pizza is no different. The local eatery is joining the masses to spread awareness and generate donations by hosting a pizza-making event where guests can create their very own pizza pie with pink sauce. The event will be held at 6:30pm and 8:30pm on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016. For only $22 per person, guests can enjoy the hands-on pleasure of crafting their own pizza using a variety of fresh ingredients with custom-made pink pizza sauce. Five dollars of each ticket purchased, as well as any donations, will go to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness and advancing the research knowledge on both the causes and treatment for breast cancer. Each pizza-maker will be able to indulge in their own creation, as well as receive a complimentary glass of rosé to pair with their pink pizza. The spookiest time of year is coming up soon, and that means costumes, candy and Halloween parties. East Flagler Street will close off from vehicular traffic on October 29th from 3 p.m. to 1 a.m for an adult, children and pet-friendly block party with various installations and activities, Downtown Fright Night: A Halloween Spooktacular. Kids will be able to partake in countless activities including trick-o-treating at the event’s participating vendors, face painting, arts and crafts, inflatable rides and a kids costume contest. More adult friendly activities include a “Hex your ex” station (where you can cast a spell on your ex by taking a shot), adult costume contest, and several bars of which you can find a spooky cocktail unique to Downtown Fright Night! All lasting beauty bears its imprint. It is unchanging, deathless, and full of Fire. When you live from it, it is irresistible, unstoppable. To this Intelligence, there are no impossible.

It is your North Star, quiet, luminous and clear, standing across time, shining in the bright blue night of your destiny. She is crying out to you, calling you Home, and waiting for you to answer…

For more than 35 years, Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade has been selling Christmas trees and wreaths to help bring holiday cheer into many South Florida households. The tradition continues in 2016.

One-hundred percent of proceeds from the tree and wreath sales will benefit Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade, which serves thousands of boys and girls in Miami-Dade County with positive programs year-round.

To kick off the 2016 selling season, Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade will hold a grand opening ribbon cutting ceremony at the Hank Kline Club tree lot on Monday, Nov. 21 at 4 p.m. Attending will be Santa Claus himself to visit Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade children, local dignitaries and Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade board members and representatives. The new Kendall Jazz Club will be performing Christmas favorites.

The trees, gorgeous Fraser firs hand-selected in North Carolina by Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade’s President Alex Rodriguez-Roig, stand 5- to 14-feet tall with a starting price of $55. Plain and hand-decorated wreaths are also available starting at $35.

Tree lot open seven days a week, starting Nov. 21 until trees are sold out 9 a.m.–9 p.m.

The Craft Spirits Fest, the original exhibition of artisanal, boutique, craft, premium, small-batch spirits and cocktails returned for its 4th year. The Grand Tasting was pushed back to October 13th due to Hurricane Matthew, but the place was still packed to capacity. The CSF showcases spirit producers, bartenders and beverage industry leaders who are influencing today’s resurgent craft spirits and craft cocktail movement. Over 120+ different Spirits and Cocktails were available to sample. At bars throughout the building, Miami’s best bartenders from the U.S. Bartenders’ Guild served amazing craft cocktails.

Young Artist Initiative (YAI), Miami’s newest artist driven concept presents Design and its Dimensions, a curated sensory exhibition on Friday, October 28th, 2016 at The Moore Building organized by the Young Artist Initiative in partnership with the Miami Design District.

For its next exhibition, YAI has carefully selected Design and its Dimensions as the conceptual base for live art and activations. Design has been the force of evolution since the birth of innovation and has accompanied the development of our culture over the course of history. Its precise yet flexible nature has been the power behind our greatest civilizational advancements, from the creation of industry to the mapping of cities.

The Young Artist Initiative (YAI) aims to create a dialogue by instilling Design and its Dimensions as the conceptual base of its next exhibition. All participating artists and designers are being presented with the challenge of interpreting the exhibitions central thesis: how do we design the fourth dimension?

YAI invites you to enjoy and ponder the reflections of Miami’s Collective of Young Artists at Design and its Dimensions on Friday, October 28th 2016 at the Moore Building. The event starts at 8 p.m. and goes until 3 a.m.

The Miami Design District, the brainchild of Craig Robins, is a creative neighbourhood dedicated to innovative fashion, design, art, architecture, and dining. The Moore Building, located in the heart of the Design District, is a unique exhibition space with four floors of arcades spaces totaling more than 21,000-square-feet. On permanent display in the atrium is the site-specific installation “Elastika”, created by Zaha Hadid.

The Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami (MOCA) is delighted to announce Ignacio Berroa as part of the monthly Jazz at MOCA series. The Cuban-born drummer has been praised through the years for combining folkloric rhythms with contemporary jazz and funk, along with being recognized as one of the greatest drummers of our time. Through his many years of performing, Berroa has collaborated with a number of legendary artists including Dizzy Gillespie, McCoy Tyner, Jackie McLean, Jack Bruce, Wynton Marsalis and Jaco Pastorius to name a few.

Berroa released his first solo album, “Codes,” in 2006, which was nominated for a Grammy in 2007. The album also won a Danish Music Award in 2007 for “Best International Jazz Album.” He stands proud on the recent Blue Note Records Mp3 entitled “Jazz Drumming Legends” which features some of the most renowned drummers in Jazz history. The public is invited to come sit under the stars and enjoy the Afro-Cuban rhythms by Ignacio Berroa.

PINTA Miami is gearing up for its 10th anniversary celebration, which will take place from November 30 to December 4, 2016 at MANA Wynwood, located in the heart of the Miami Arts District. This edition will be the pinnacle of ten years that have left a mark on the world of modern and contemporary art from Latin America. In order to further our mission, PINTA Miami’s curatorial committee has expanded its project to include galleries from around the globe while maintaining a conceptual dialogue across all cultures, connecting Latin America to the rest of the world.

Launched in New York in 2006, the fair is considered the most important event of its kind. The founding of PINTA Miami was a milestone event in awareness of twentieth-century Hispanic-American art. It has increased the visibility in the United States of crucial figures like Julio Le Parc, José Gurvich, Jorge Eielson, Lydia Okumura, Antonio Manuel, Waltercio Caldas, Ivan Contreras Brunet, Carlos Cruz-Diez, and Spanish artist Elena Asins—all of whom have been featured in its exhibitions and galleries. Emerging contemporary artists like Elias Crespin, Ivan Navarro, Alexandre Arrechea, Dario Escobar, Matias Duville, Alejandro Londono, Gonzalo Fuenmayor, José Luis Landet, Ricardo Alcaide, Emilio Chapela, and many others have also participated in the fair. Through innovative management strategies, PINTA has been instrumental to major museums’ acquiring works by Latin American artists. A few examples of such acquisitions include a piece by Abraham Palatnik purchased by MoMA for its permanent collection; a work by Elias Crespín purchased by The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; and a work by Fernando Bryce purchased by the Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires (MALBA).

“Thanks to its impressive programming, PINTA Miami 2015 was extremely well attended. Our curated sections featured not only works by a range of legendary artists, but also recreations of historical performances. The Young Collectors Desk aims to educate and give attendees the opportunity to explore the world of the arts with guided tours that focus on the construction and maintenance of a coherent and sustainable collection. Together with its international affiliates, Christie’s International Real Estate will host an elegant booth at the main entrance of the fair, showcasing luxury residential property offerings from around the world. As in the past, the prestigious fair promises to showcase the finest investment quality paintings, photography, prints, drawings, design, sculpture, and video art, highlighting works from the 20th and 21st centuries.

Now in its fifth year, CONTEXT Art Miami is expanding. Dedicated to the development and reinforcement of emerging and mid-career artists, CONTEXT will take place in a standalone 65,000-square-foot pavilion just one block away from the Art Miami Pavilion in the middle of Midtown. Both fairs will be open to the public Wednesday, November 30th through Sunday, December 4th, 2016.

With a combined exhibition space covering three city blocks and totaling 250,000 square feet, Art Miami and CONTEXT Art Miami have grown to include a roster of more than 200 international galleries, showcasing 1,875 artists from 60 countries around the globe.

One-Day Fair Pass provides admission to Art Miami and CONTEXT Fairs, and complimentary shuttle service will be available between the fairs. Aqua Art Miami, the sister satellite fair to Art Miami, will celebrate its 12th edition at the Aqua Hotel (1530 Collins Avenue Miami Beach, FL 33139), from Wednesday, November 30th to Sunday, December 4th, 2016. The festive Preview has become the destination of influential collectors and art professionals who migrate en masse from the Art Miami and CONTEXT fairs at the Pavilion.

One of the best fairs for emerging art during Miami’s Art Week, Aqua Art Miami has consistently earned critical recognition for presenting vibrant and noteworthy international art programs with a particular interest in supporting young and established galleries with strong emerging and mid-career artists. This year Aqua Art Miami has partnered with the Association of Women Art Dealers (AWAD), a non-profit trade network on a mission to facilitate business between and for women art dealers. On Friday, December 2nd from 10am -11am Aqua Art Miami and AWAD will host a special morning panel addressing “Unconscious gender bias and the art world: What’s the reality for women art dealers, and what role do they have to play?” moderated by Susan Mumford, Founder and CEO of AWAD.

Aqua Art Miami continues to attract increasingly diverse and distinguished exhibitors while retaining the fair’s signature relaxed vibe and lively energy. MAGIC CITY HIPPIES’ signature indie funk will enliven guests at Seaspice Brasserie & Lounge this weekend on Friday, October 14, and Saturday, October 15, at 10:30 pm. The indie band’s performance is part of Seaspice Live’s lineup, which includes some of the most promising artist in the industry in collaboration with Art House Records, from eight time Grammy award-winning producer/composer Julio Reyes Copello, (Ricky Martin, Marc Anthony, Jennifer Lopez, Alejandro Sanz, Il Divo, Laura Pausini and Nelly Furtado).
