Miami, FL – The second South Florida edition of the Festival of Colors (festivalofcolorsfl.com) is coming to central Miami at Peacock Park in Coconut Grove on Saturday, April 13.

After an inaugural colorful 2023 event attended by hundreds in Ft, Lauderdale, this marks the second local edition of the Festival of Colors USA. It’s been beloved by conscious partiers throughout the western US for nearly two decades (festivalofcolorsusa.com), and billed as “the world’s happiest transformational festival.”

Inspired by the Indian festival of Holi, the Festival of Colors will take place on Saturday, April 13 from 11 am to 4 pm, at Peacock Park, 2820 MacFarlane Rd., Coconut Grove, Miami, 33133.

The day promises to be a vibrant celebration of love, unity, and joy, and sober, uplifting fun, with plenty of cruelty-free cuisine, arts and crafts, mantra music, HOURLY COLOR THROWS — and free entry for kids under 12!

The Festival of Colors, also known as Holi, is a Hindu festival that has been celebrated in India and other parts of the world for centuries. It’s a time when people come together to celebrate the arrival of spring and the victory of good over evil. During the festival, participants throw colorful powder at each other, dance to live music, and enjoy delicious food.

This year’s Festival of Colors in Florida promises to be an unforgettable experience for all attendees. In addition to the colorful powder throwing and live music, there will also be yoga, meditation, and dance workshops throughout the day. There will also be plenty of food vendors, serving up delicious vegetarian and vegan options.

“We’re thrilled to bring the Festival of Colors to South Florida for the first time this year,” said festival organizer, Vasanti Dasi. “We want to create a space where people can come together, have fun, and celebrate the beauty of diversity and unity. This festival is a celebration of life, love, and happiness.”

Tickets for the Festival of Colors are available for purchase on the festival’s website, festivalofcolorsfl.com. Early bird tickets are on sale now, so make sure to grab yours before they sell out. Again, kids under 12 enter free, and there’s a special discount for students and veterans.

Use promo code BHAKTI at checkout to get presale entry for just $5 (with a bag of three colors) or $10 (with a bag of three colors and a vegetarian or vegan meal). Students and veterans can use the code to get presale entry with a bag of colors for $5.

Press passes are available by contacting press officer Radha dasi at radha@halftimeyoga.com, or calling 786-361-6417.

The Museum of Graffiti is proud to announce the opening of an eco-friendly exhibition presenting art works created with recycled air pollution particles to promote sustainability. The exhibit, entitled Reduce, Reuse, Remix: Graffiti Art for a Better Earth will open on Earth Day, April 22, 2023, and will exclusively present studio pieces of local artists who were seeded AIR-INK writing utensils. AIR-INK technology starts by attaching filters to exhaust pipes on cars, generators, etc. to capture air pollution before it hits the environment. The sequestered soot then goes through a purification process and is converted into ink. The result is that PM 2.5 and PM 10 emissions which would have otherwise been in the lungs of millions of people will now be resting beautifully as art at the Museum of Graffiti. Viewers of the show can expect to see reclaimed found objects in addition to the AIR-INK in some of the pieces.

All participating artists, were gifted the AIR-INK materials to use by Rabble Wine Company, which takes a planet-first mentality in its work by reducing water usage, decreasing pesticides, protecting natural vineyard ecosystems, reducing carbon emissions, and working with, rather than against, Mother Nature. Artists include Miami locals Ahold Sniffs Glue, Abstrk, Krave, Nico, Sero, Gustavo Oviedo, and more.

Join us as Rabble hosts the grand opening celebration, April 22, 2023 at 7:30 PM, where guests can meet the artists, sample Rabble’s responsibly produced wine, take part in sustainable interactive activities, and bid on up-cycled bottle art with 100% of proceeds to benefit The CLEO Institute, the only women-led nonprofit, nonpartisan organization in Florida exclusively dedicated to climate education, advocacy, and engagement.

IDENTITY & BODIES IN EXTENDED REALITY (XR) & SOMEWHERE IN-BETWEEN

AdrienneRose Gionta is a multi-disciplinary artist, curator, and VJ. Her work within extended reality (XR) employs web-based practices, artificial intelligence (AI), interactive installations, virtual reality (VR), video, sound, photography, sculpture, and drawing to analyze identity and cultural assumptions about fatness, beauty standards, embodiment, pleasure, and fulfillment on and offline. Gionta is currently an Artist in Residence at Oolite Arts in Miami.

Since 2004, Gionta’s work has been exploring programmed biases through the algorithms of the internet as well as within extended reality platforms such as Snapchat (AR), the Sims (VR), and Second Life (the OG Metaverse) to question the inclusion, limitless possibilities, and representation of fat-bodied females in art by a fat female artist.

Her most recent explorations in the Metaverse along with AI generative art platforms such as DALL-E 2, ChatGBT, and Midjourney demonstrate that there is still so much more to explore, learn, create, and share when it comes to art, technology, body image, and identity IRL and beyond.

Admission is free.

Rabble will host the grand opening celebration at the Museum of Graffiti on Earth Day, April 22, 2023 at 7:30 PM, where guests can meet the artists, sample its responsibly produced wine, take part in sustainable interactive activities, and bid on up-cycled bottle art with 100% of proceeds to benefit The CLEO Institute, the only women-led nonprofit, nonpartisan organization in Florida exclusively dedicated to climate education, advocacy, and engagement.

Of the stained-glass panels from that era that have survived, there are only 14 other pieces on public display in Florida. Admission to the 450-acre estate is $15 for adults; $7 for children (ages 4-14); Military and seniors receive a $2 discount on Tuesdays, and Deering Estate Foundation members admitted free. “It’s long been known in medical circles that art is a highly effective form of therapy that encourages non-verbal communication and healing when people are often unable to speak for whatever the reason,” ArtServe executive director Jason Hughes said. “Exploring self-expression through the outlet of various artforms can create a safe space that helps many embrace and sort through their own personal difficulties.”

According to the American Art Therapy Association, there are over 5,000 art therapists practicing nationwide who provide services for individuals, families, and communities through active art-making, creative processes, applied psychological theory and human experience within a psychotherapeutic relationship.

A solo exhibit entitled “Story of a Woman’s Journey” produced by Deborah Strelkow will run concurrently to the “Wellness” exhibit at ArtServe.

ArtServe inspires, supports and advances its diverse members, artists and community by promoting artistic development, education and prosperity through the exploration and presentation of the visual and performing arts.

When the topic is street art, there is no way around him: Banksy is probably the most famous and also the most mysterious graffiti artist in the world. The approximately 40-year-old Brit successfully keeps his identity secret; his works, however, conquer not only the streets, but also the auction houses of the world. Highly successful, Banksy is regarded as one of the most valuable artists of our time. The Art of Banksy: Without Limits shows more than 155 of the artist’s works, such as his original art, prints on different kinds of materials, photos, sculptures, and much more. Some of his works have even been reproduced with his stencil technique especially for the exhibition. A video documentary will also provide insight into his life and work, all presented in a unique setting. The show promises a genuinely impressing experience, and is a “must see” to celebrate Banksy’s art and carry it out into the wider world.

One of the artist who shaped the graffiti art movement we know and love today is Steven D. Ogburn (b. 1957), better known as Blade, a famed New York-born artist and a proud owner of the title King of the Trains since he painted over five thousand trains with his striking characters and elegant letters. Famous for his whole subway cars, he became an icon of New York City and a hero-figure for the younger generation of street artists. Blade stopped painting trains in 1984 as he felt that he had nothing more to prove. Additionally, he began working in other media including acrylic on canvas, producing artworks suitable for indoor exhibitions that have brought him worldwide recognition. Since 1981 when he had his first one-man exhibition in Europe, Blade has participated in many individual and collective shows in notable venues, such as the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, Cleveland; the Musée national des Monuments Français, Paris; the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), Los Angeles; the Groninger Museum in the city of Groningen in the Netherlands, and many others.

Join us for a special evening as we gather to celebrate the opening of “Chiaroscuro” a solo exhibition by Amanda Valdes.

Miami native Amanda Valdes’ iconic macabre style is instantly recognizable and has made an impact on art collectors globally. Valdes’ art focuses on the female identity, primarily drawing inspiration from the depths of her imagination. Her iconic dolls share a common trait in that none of them are drawn with pupils, creating an even deeper mystery into “the windows of the soul”. In addition to traditional canvas, Valdes also creates large-scale murals, 3D sculptures, and
illustrates and designs textile patterns. Valdes attended Florida Atlantic University and the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. She’s had several solo exhibitions, and is continually showing her work internationally. Valdes has collaborated with brands like Ford Motors, HGTV, Miami Dolphins, Warner Brothers, DC Comics, Macy’s and more.

There will be live music, complimentary beverages and a food truck on site. We look forward to seeing everyone!

Compositum Musicae Novae (CMN) invites you to view the exhibit Beyond the Woods one last time during the exhibit’s closing reception on Friday, July 1 from 6:30 – 9:00 pm.

In portraying the woods, artists often evoke a romantic mix of natural beauty and mysticism reminiscent of stories read in childhood. The exhibit, Beyond the Woods, presents a group of artists that expand on the representation of the woods as a place where people come to contemplate the streams and waterfalls and to which lovers sneak away. Some works are formal inquiries into traditional mediums, while others are more experimental, blending different disciplines and techniques; collectively; the exhibit creates a magical journey. So come and enjoy the forest creatures, the song of falling leaves, the echoes of nature, and the repeated patterns of all who have walked through the woods before you.

The exhibit curated by Cuqui Beguiristain features eighteen South Florida artists including: Alberto Mesa, Derek Wilson, Ernie Rodriguez, Gene Page,
George Rodez, Jane Krause, Jorge Ballara, Laurie Julia, Luisa Mesa, MANO,
Macarena Zilveti, Mila Hajjar,Odilia Mezquia, Roseè Camafreita,
Sandy Levy,Tony Mendoza, Tom Weinkle, and Yoli Recio.

In collaboration with the exhibit closing CMN is happy to present a classical music performance featuring the music of Ralph Vaughn-Williams with guest tenor, Andres Lasaga and pianist, Andrea DeVito.

CityPlace Doral has partnered with Doral Contemporary Art Museum (DORCAM) once again to offer guests and the local community arts and cultural initiatives at the center throughout spring and summer. To kick off the 2022 programming, CityPlace Doral will present the Second Annual “Fashion Art Design” on Thursday, May 12. The event will feature “art to wear” runway looks and unique fashion sculptural pieces and headdresses that are focused on sustainability and designed by students of Istituto Marangoni and DesignLab Miami. The runway show will consist of a show of lights, music, and a parade of sculptural outfits made of surprising materials and shapes on the roundabout at the center of CityPlace Doral. “Fashion Art Design” will kick off the Doral Fashion Art Design Week event series, taking place in Doral yearly.

DORCAM is committed to education in the arts and supporting up-and-coming designers. DesignLab designers Octavio Aguilar, Celia Ledón and Angie Cohen will participate in the runway show along with student-designers who were mentored by Ledón and Cohen.

During the show, Antonio Drija, author and former Cirque Du Soleil performer, will recap his role as artistic director of the show. DORCAM will stream digital fashion designs by Karina Ochoa de Baker, a 3D apparel designer and the founder of Project Infinito, who was featured in VOGUE Scandinavia for her incredible metaverse fashion shows.

In addition to “Fashion Art Design,” the spring/summer 2022 programming will include two pop-up exhibitions.

“Fashion Power” (Suite 123) | May 12 – July 12, 2022, Open Daily, Times Vary
Fashion Power is a group exhibition that includes works by Barbara Hulanicki, Octavio Aguilar, Lisu Vega and Celia Ledón. Legendary clothing designer Hulanicki is the founder of Biba Shop in London, which became a popular hangout for film stars and rock musicians, including Mick Jagger, Freddy Mercury, David Bowie, among others. Aguilar, also known as DopeTavio, made it to the top ten in Project Runway Season 19. Vega is trained as an experimental graphic designer and has a multidisciplinary approach to art, as her work oscillates between sculpture, installation, and fashion. Ledón is an industrial designer. Her creations, not meant to be worn, straddle the boundaries between the fashion world and sculpture. The variety of materials used for the construction of her clothes make for truly theatrical pieces.

“Urban Art” (Suite 150) | May 12 – July 12, 2022, Open Daily, Times Vary
Urban Art is presented in collaboration with David Rosen Galleries and Naif International Gallery. Both galleries have years of experience in the world of art and this exhibition promises to be an exciting addition to the festivities at CityPlace Doral. Featured artists include Marcos Varonese, Jordi Mollá, Domingo Zapata, Angelina Roma, Penny Boyd, Sebastián Castella, and Giuseppe Ferlito.

Funding Arts Broward (FAB), a nonprofit organization committed to preserving and cultivating the arts in Broward County, will present its fifth annual “Black & White: A Night At The Museum” special event on Monday, January 10, from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. This elegant black and white themed cocktail party at NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale will feature exclusive exhibit tours, live entertainment, light bites and a decadent dessert table.

Attendees will have the opportunity to experience The Art of Assemblage, Margarita Cano: 90 Years and Jared McGriff: Where We Are You at the NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale on a private tour by Bonnie Clearwater, director and chief curator of NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale.

The Art of Assemblage features sculptures composed of found objects and repurposed materials in inventive and fanciful ways. In the practice of assemblage, materials such as scrap metal, broken shells, tattered fabrics and discarded toys are salvaged and brought together in unexpected combinations, creating poetic abstractions of everyday life. The exhibition is drawn primarily from the Museum’s collection and includes recent acquisitions to the Museum’s permanent collection by artists John Outterbridge, Vanessa German, Pablo Cano, and a collaborative work by Jorge Pardo and Jason Rhoades. It also includes works by Christian Holstad, Ernesto Neto and Jessica Stockholder, and significant artworks from the Museum’s collections of African and CoBrA art. This exhibition is curated by Ariella Wolens, Bryant-Taylor curator.

Margarita Cano: 90 Years celebrates Miami-based artist Margarita Cano’s remarkable long life and records her transition from Cuba to America, scientist to art services librarian, and finally, to a painter of dreams. This exhibition will encapsulate Cano’s multi-disciplinary practice as a self-taught artist whose creativity has manifested through wondrous miniature books, votive portraits, landscapes paintings, prints and photographs. Cano’s art is a portal into a celestial world in which memories are transformed into sacred visions of life and loss. This exhibition is curated by Bonnie Clearwater with Ariella Wolens. This exhibit is sponsored by Rita Holloway.

The first solo museum exhibition of Miami artist Jared McGriff, Where We Are You, showcases his dreamlike paintings that remain timeless, even as he integrates his family’s history of migration from the rural south to the rural west of Oklahoma and California into the realities of the present. The exhibition’s title, Where We Are You, encapsulates notions of African Ubuntu philosophy, where the individual becomes the whole through the experience of the group. McGriff’s compositions of single and grouped figures embody the guiding principle for many early cultures that each individual’s actions impact others and society. This exhibit is curated by Bonnie Clearwater and sponsored by Sandra Muss.

Champagne and cocktails, culinary delights, and selections by Israel Charles, arts and music program director at Dillard High School, will add to this festive event. Guests are encouraged to dress in their favorite black and white cocktail attire.

Tickets for “Black & White: A Night At The Museum” are $75 per person and are available at fundingartsbroward.org. For more information, please call (954) 353-7673 or email fundingartsbroward@gmail.com.

Zenith Art & Fashion to host a special event this Saturday, January 29 at 7PM at 8163 NE 2nd Ave. It will be an exciting evening with a special “After Hours” experience with one of Zenith’s famed artists Giano Currie, an award-winning Surinamese fine art photographer who produces his art on metal. Guests will get to channel their inner-model and pose in front of Currie as he guides them in a fun and natural way, to make them feel super comfortable and beautiful in front of the camera. Each shot taken is shown on a big screen that everyone at the event can preview throughout the night. This encourages guests to compliment and empower each other on their original beauty as it is expressed on the screen. As soon as their images are taken, each guest will get photos sent to their phone instantly for a nominal fee. Over the years, Currie has worked with supermodels Jeana Turner to Grammy-award winning musicians Eskeerdo and Twelve’Len, distinguished artists Bradley Theodore, best-selling authors Christopher Kai and record holding Olympians Renzo Tjon-A-Joe. As his style progresses, he has formed a unique language which speaks to an exotic-modern future not seen in other photographers.

Doral, Florida, 33166

Heal For Us, a newly organized nonprofit that aims to encourage people struggling with mental health has partnered with The Ripple Effect to put on a night of music and poetry at The Doral Yard on May 18 in support of Mental Health Awareness Month. The concert will feature local musicians singing cover songs from artists who suffered from mental health issues such as Amy Winehouse, Whitney Houston, Mac Miller, Nirvana, and Prince.

“We have lost some of the greatest musicians of our time to the void of darkness, addiction, and depression. Close to 120,000 people die each year to suicide or overdose; people who once had flourishing careers, said Nedal Ahmad, founder of Heal For Us. “As a parent, I’m well aware of the struggles men have speaking about anxiety and depression and the stigma of having to be the strong, dependable, father figure in the family.” According to the ADAA, over 6 million men suffer from depression per year, but male depression often goes underdiagnosed. More than 3 million men in the US have panic disorder, agoraphobia, or any other phobia. Heal for Us wants to bridge that gap and empower fathers with resources, mental health services, and support.

Over 30 local musicians and bands signed up to participate in Heal Fest 2023’s night of music and poetry; only five were chosen for the inaugural event. The lineup includes up-and-coming artists such as:

• VIX is influenced by Amy Winehouse. She infuses her music with a distinctive blend of rock, soul, and pop, and her lyrics are deeply personal and introspective, often exploring themes of love, loss, and self-discovery. IG: @VIXmvsic
• Joshua Mitchell is scheduled to perform music from Prince. Whether you’re overcome with the unstoppable urge to get up and dance, or the urge to shed a few tears, Joshua Mitchell’s music is bound to make you feel something. Joshua promotes mental health awareness, social equality, community outreach, and of course, just having a good time. IG: @joshuamitchellmusic
• Dria is a Florida-raised, NY-based artist and performing arts teacher, who will be performing music from Whitney Houston. Dria has been referred to as a “Creative Powerhouse” and dreams of building her creative community with a space that can be safe for ALL through the Arts. IG: @highdefinizion_21
• Christopher Luv is a 25-year-old from Miami who will be covering Kurt Cobain from Nirvana. IG: @christopherluvmusic
• Trevon DeVitto known as Giftrap Tre will perform music from Mac Miller. He will also be the artist to provide the spoken word.

Tickets are available online via Eventbrite at healfest2023.com, and they start at $35. Proceeds go towards the event and Heal For Us, which provides funds for those who cannot afford to pay for therapy.

WHEN: May 18, 2023, at 7:00 PM

WHERE: The Doral Yard, 8455 NW 53rd St Suite 106, Doral, FL 33166

ABOUT HEAL FEST:
Local restauranteur and former owner of Pincho Factory, Nedal Ahmad, founded Heal For Us, a 501 c3, with a simple goal in mind — to answer the question, what would our world look like with more present fathers, more vulnerable partners, and men who are given the tools to process their past and reshape their future. His own fatherhood and mental health journey drove him to want to share the very change he has seen in his relationship with his children. Heal For Us offers referral services, mental health research, and resources to those who do not have the means to pay for mental health therapy. Nonprofit Aims to Bulldoze Barriers Affecting Diversity in Miami
MCCJ to Conduct an Open Discussion as the Nation Struggles with Racism

MIAMI, Fl., June 2021 — Juneteenth, the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the U.S. is right around the corner. Historically designated on June 19th, it’s a day for ALL of us to celebrate. For MCCJ, the non-profit organization that advocates for diversity and equality, it’s a day to reflect in dialogue and plan for a better future. As part of their “Can We Talk? Really, Can We Talk?” series, MCCJ will present “Bulldozing Barriers: Reflections of Juneteenth & Diversity in Miami” — an effort to encourage continuous self-development and respect not just for the black community, but for all cultures.

“We invite people of all races, religions and cultures to join us in conversation as we acknowledge a period in history that should have shaped and influenced our society, but due to ongoing discord and violence against people of color and religious backgrounds over this past year, it’s become clear that we are regressing rather than progressing,” says MCCJ’s Executive Director, Matthew Anderson. He will be moderating a frank discussion about racial fears and how it affects our progress for a more inclusive community. Following the panel discussion, people are invited to enjoy the “One Way” exhibit at the Hampton Art Lovers, a non-profit art gallery that advocates for black art, and is open to all who love art in all its forms.

Panelists Include:
– Marilyn Holifield, Partner, Holland & Knight and MCCJ Silver Medallion winner
– Saif Ishoof, Vice President for Engagement FIU and MCCJ Silver Medallion winner
– Matthew Beatty, COO Carrie Meek Foundation
– Pamela Fuertes, Executive Director, Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Program at Miami Dade College
– Deborah Koch, Executive Director at American Red Cross of Greater Miami
– Kathryn Mikesell, Founder, Fountainhead Residency
– Esther Park, Vice President of Programming Oolite Arts
– Matt Anderson, Executive Director, MCCJ (Moderator)

MASK
PROTOCOL:
The panelists will hold this conversation outdoors under a big tent. In an abundance of caution, we urge thoughtful consideration when it comes to wearing a mask and maintaining six feet of separation.

ABOUT MCCJ:
MCCJ, Inc. was originally founded in Miami in 1935 as the Miami Branch of the National Conference of Christians & Jews. Later on, the group was renamed the Miami Coalition of Christians and Jews. In 2011, in recognition of its embrace of people of ALL faiths and secular backgrounds, the organization formally changed its name to MCCJ, Inc. Today, it goes beyond its original intent by creating a haven for dialog, training inclusive leaders and promoting understanding for all faiths, races and cultures through education, advocacy and conflict resolution. It hosts the oldest continuous interfaith clergy dialog in the United States and presents prejudice reducing programs in local high schools, among other activities. With his biting political satire, celebrity caricatures, and magazine and advertising illustrations, graphic artist Conrado Walter Massaguer (1889–1965) helped shape the visual culture of his native Cuba between the 1920s and 1950s. This installation of works recently gifted to The Wolfsonian Library by Vicki Gold Levi will bring forth Massaguer’s legacy through dozens of works, from images of the “New Woman” flapper ideal (the so-called “Massa-girls”) in his magazine Social to depictions of tropical paradise for the Cuban Tourist Commission. Massaguer’s transnational reach will be shown in his covers for Collier’s and Life, while cartoons of visiting dignitaries and Hollywood stars will reveal how he rubbed shoulders with Franklin D. Roosevelt, Walt Disney, Albert Einstein, and the King of Spain—all evidence of an artist at the center of Havana’s cosmopolitan culture in the decades before the Cuban Revolution.

This year’s opening night film taking place at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 19, at NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale (1 E Las Olas Blvd), is The Mattachine Family (USA, 2023). Directed by Andy Vallentine, This heartwarming comedy drama follows Thomas and Oscar, who, after their first foster child returns to his birth mother, grapple with different ideas about what making a family actually means. Tender and funny, The Mattachine Family reflects on “chosen” families, the bonds we form with friends, lovers, and children, and how those define us, elude us, and perplex us. The film stars Nico Tortorella (Younger; Walking Dead: World Beyond), Juan Pablo Di Pace (Fuller House, Mamma Mia!), and Emily Hampshire (Schitt’s Creek). An afterparty will take place at 10 p.m. at Rooftop @1WLO (1 W Las Olas Blvd #700).

On October 21, at 7:30 p.m., at Savor Cinema (503 SE 6th St) the Men’s Spotlight Film & Party will feature the erotic stylish thriller Femme (UK, 2023). Jules is a drag artist in London who withdraws into himself and loses his career after a horrific attack. Months later, he recognizes one of his assailants in a gay sauna and quickly realizes he has the perfect, but risky, opportunity to get revenge. An afterparty will take place at Union Kitchen & Bar in Wilton Manors at 10 p.m.

In collaboration with PRIDE Fort Lauderdale and Trans Social, OUTshine is pleased to present its TRANScendent Spotlight, the North American premiere of Oskar’s Dress (Oskar’s Kleid) (Germany, 2023) at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 22, at Paradigm Cinemas: Gateway Fort Lauderdale. This heartwarming story portrays an overwhelmed father who runs up against his own limits of acceptance with his child’s fundamental search for identity.

On Monday, October 3, beginning at 7:15 p.m. at Paradigm Cinemas: Gateway Fort Lauderdale, OUTshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival Fort Lauderdale spotlights South Florida’s small but mighty filmmaking community from students to seasoned veterans of the industry. Selections include USA shorts The Last Lesbian Library, I Remember, Azulejos, and Don’t Say Butterfly.

This year’s previously announced Centerpiece Film Glitter & Doom (USA/Mexico, 2023), a fantasy summer romance, will screen at 7 :30 p.m. on Thursday, October 26, at Savor Cinema.
The film follows a musician who wears charisma as camouflage and a carefree kid about to run away with the circus as they fall in love at first sight.

A highlight for the women will be The Ladies’ Spotlight Film & Party beginning at 7 p.m. on
Saturday, October 28, at Paradigm Cinemas: Gateway Fort Lauderdale (1820 E Sunrise Blvd.). Marinette (France, 2023) is biopic of Marinette Pichon, the first French female soccer player to sign on to the American professional league. She was a true pioneer and advocate for women’s rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and equality in general. She was a fighter whose legacy lives on today. A 9 p.m. afterparty will follow at Hair Circus (501 SW 2nd Ave).

In addition to the ambitious line-up, OUTshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival Fort Lauderdale is pleased to announce its new OUTshine After Dark program showcasing a curated international selection of queer horror films, erotic thrillers and offbeat films that fit in with autumn’s spooky season vibe. Films to be screened include psychological horror films The Judgement (Egypt, 2023) and Almamula (Argentina, France and Italy, 2023), horror film You’re Not Me (Tú no eres yo)  (Spain, 2023), the East Coast premiere of the homoerotic, magical The Fantastic Golem Affairs (El Fantastico Casso Del Golem)(Spain, 2023), and the East Coast premiere of the erotic thriller The Trace of Your Lips (La Huella De Unos Labios) (Mexico, 2023).

Additional selections of note include A Big Gay Hairy Hit! Where The Bears are:
The Documentary (USA, 2023); The Lost Boys (Le Paradis)(Belgium/France, 2023) – an official selection of the Berlinale and Frameline Festivals; the touching rom-com Cora Bora (USA, 2023) an official Selection of SXSW, OUTFest, Frameline, Honolulu Rainbow, and OUT
On Film – Atlanta festivals; Chasing Chasing Amy (USA, 2023), the documentary behind the popular film that explores the transformational impact of a ‘90s rom-com on a 12-year-old kid from Kansas, coming of age and contending with queer identity; OUTshine’s Cocktails & Cinema locally produced feature Big Easy Queens (USA, 2023) and the filmed in Miami narrative February (Febrero) (Cuba/USA, 2022).

The suspenseful drama All Of Us Strangers (UK, 2023) will be the Closing Night Film commencing at 5:30 pm. on Sunday, October 29, at Savor Cinema. British director Andrew Haigh, whose 2011 feature breakthrough Weekend is among the most widely beloved queer romances of the 21st century, has returned with an expertly modulated, emotionally overwhelming love story suspended in a metaphysical realm. One night in his near-empty tower block in contemporary London, Adam (Andrew Scott) has a chance encounter with a mysterious neighbor, Harry (Paul Mescal), which punctures the rhythm of his everyday life. As a relationship develops between them, Adam is preoccupied with memories of the past and finds himself drawn back to the suburban town and his childhood home where he grew up. Immediately following at 8 p.m., festivities, awards and a celebratory evening will take place at
The Fitz (503 SW 2nd Ave).

OUTrageous, OUTspoken, and OUTstanding, this year’s OUTshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival Fort Lauderdale edition is sponsored, in part, by Gilead, the State of Florida through the Division of Arts & Culture and the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Broward County Board of County Commissioners as recommended by the Broward County Cultural Council.
