10 Days of Connection is a community-led initiative to promote kindness and inclusion in Miami-Dade and Broward counties. From May 1-10, participants are invited to attend connection experiences hosted by more than 100 local organizations, and are challenged to step outside of their comfort zone to forge new connections across lines of difference.

In recent years, people have become increasingly divided across lines of difference. Incidents of hate have increased, and tolerance for differing ideas has decreased. For ten days each year, we challenge the entire community to break down silos and engage in acts of connection, to build empathy, to increase understanding, and to refocus on our shared humanity.

Totally Teachers Weekend returns to Miami Seaquarium on Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28, 2019 offering Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach County teachers and school employees, in both private and public schools with proper school ID, free admission to Miami Seaquarium; plus, a discount for up to four guests at 50% off the regular admission.

Teachers are invited to visit the Education Center at Miami Seaquarium during Totally Teachers Weekend! for more information on the park’s educational programs. Teachers may also enter to win a free field trip to Miami Seaquarium in the Education Center from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. There will be a random drawing from the entries received during the weekend and the winning teacher will receive a free group admission to Miami Seaquarium for up to 35 students, plus bus transportation and lunch for the students. South Florida’s iconic eco-adventure destination is back with the all-new, exciting Adventure Camp, designed to keep kids’ ages 5 to 12-years-old engaged and thoroughly entertained over the long summer break. Available from June 10-August 9, Jungle Island offers week-long and full-day camps filled with educational hands-on animal encounters, arts & crafts, fitness, space exploration, and nature discovery, among other activities. Each week features a new theme, including Around the Globe in Five Days, Time Travel, Disasters on Earth, Out of This World Odyssey, and Adventure Quest.

Summer Adventure Camp is offered from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Monday through Friday at a weekly rate of $175 per week, per child, or daily for $50 per child. Thousands of walkers and runners will make strides in the ongoing fight against drunk driving during the 9th Annual Ultimate Software presents the La Croix & Lennox National Account Services Walk Like MADD & MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5k brought to you by UBS on Sunday, April 28. This event is MADD Broward County’s annual signature fundraising event in support of its mission to end drunk driving. It takes place in over 90 cities in the U.S., including Fort Lauderdale.

During the kick-off event students will have the exclusive opportunity to enjoy a walking tour and receive photography tips from noted wildlife photographer, Nikon® Ambassador and Zoo Miami’s Director of Communications Ron Magill. Carnegie Hall’s NYO2 makes its New World Center debut alongside Grammy Award-winning violinist Gil Shaham and NWS Fellows and alumni for an exclusive one-night-only event—the orchestra’s only public performance before its finale at Carnegie Hall on July 24.

NYO2 is joined by conductor Carlos Miguel Prieto for Mexican and Russian masterpieces, including the vibrant suite from Revueltas’s Redes, Prokofiev’s rich First Violin Concerto and Shostakovich’s dramatic Symphony No. 5.

NYO2’s 2018 season and six-day residency in Miami mark the start of a new partnership between New World Symphony and Carnegie Hall, which will see current and former Fellows mentoring and performing side-by-side with participating students from across the country, including many from South Florida.

Comprising a “remarkable array of talent” (The New York Times), NYO2 is an orchestral training program for talented young players ages 14–17 with a focus on recruiting musicians from communities underrepresented in classical music.

MegaRumba to Support Those in Need of Food and Medicine in Venezuela

SWARM and iHeart’s TU 94.9 have once again partnered to bring MegaRumba to Wynwood. This year, they will be raising funds in support of the Cuatro Por Venezuela Foundation, which has been fighting hunger, illness, and poverty in Venezuela since 2016. Taking place on the 20th of July, this festival of independence for all Hispanic cultures welcomes everyone to join in this single collective celebration, being a source of mutual pride and unity, and allowing everyone to enjoy a variety of Latin music, flavors, dancing, arts and crafts.

For the first time ever in the U.S., Danny Ocean will perform “Me Rehuso” at MegaRumba. Also performing live is Sofia Reyes, winner of an MTV Millennial, Latin Grammy and iHeart Media Award, as well as Grammy and Latin Grammy nominated bilingual Latin band, Locos Por Juana. Venezuelan singer/actor Victor Drijo and Nicole Favre will also join iHeart radio’s ever-popular DJ’s on center stage. In addition, there will be food trucks, arts & craft vendors, and several fully stocked bars, offering everything from the best of Bud Light and mixed drinks to specialty flavored mojitos by Cruzan.

The festival will run from 7PM to 3AM and it will continue to be FREE to enjoy. With the purchase of a $10 donation ticket, people can help Venezuela, but also enjoy a free Bud Light and shot from the giant Aguardiente Ice Luge ($19 value). Cuatro Por Venezuela Foundation will receive 100% of that ticket, so they may continue to provide educational, medical, and nutritional aid to Venezuelans in need. “Venezuela is under a profound humanitarian crisis, and we want to do something about it. One of the great things about Miami is our ethnic unity and getting to witness the neighborly love as the melting pot of Latin cultures come together in times of need. We are eager to help in this time of desperation in Venezuela and are excited to contribute towards uniting others in helping as well,” says Tony Albelo, SWARM CEO. South Florida has the largest concentration of Venezuelans in the United States, and SWARM is hoping to make a positive impact towards getting Venezuela some much needed help.

Make Music Day, the annual global celebration of music on the summer solstice, returns this year on Thursday, June 21 with more than 4,500 free outdoor concerts, music lessons, jam sessions and other exciting music-making events being held in over 70 U.S. cities in 31 States. New York City, Los Angeles, Austin Boston, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Hartford, Madison, Miami, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Philadelphia, Salem (OR) and Nashville are among the numerous cities hosting major celebrations – as well as the entire states of Vermont and Connecticut – in what has become a worldwide phenomenon observed by hundreds of millions of people in 800 cities in 120 countries.

Completely different from a typical music festival, Make Music Day celebrates and promotes the natural music maker in all of us, regardless of ability. Reimagining their cities and towns as stages, every kind of musician – from bucket drummers and opera singers to hip-hop artists and marching bands – pours onto streets, parks, plazas, porches, rooftops, gardens and other public spaces to celebrate, create and share their music with friends, neighbors and strangers.

Launched in France in 1982 as the Fête de la Musique, Make Music Day is presented in the U.S. by The NAMM Foundation and coordinated by the nonprofit Make Music Alliance. This year Make Music Miami, a collaborative effort of Buskerfest Miami, the Rhythm Foundation and Guitars Over Guns will expand on its previous iterations to take over all of Miami Dade County, including the Mama Mia! Sing-Along Truck, a roving karaoke station in the back of a pickup truck, a house party in Westchester, over 30 performances on Lincoln Road, and even an experimental music performance of Dean Rosenthal’s Stones/Water/Time/Breath in the Amelia Earheart Park.

Other highlights include webcasting of live performances to multiple Miami-Dade Public Library locations (for weather-proof viewing pleasure), a specially-curated live DJ set for the morning commute by DJ Le Spam, as well as Mass Appeals that gather large groups of musicians to participate in impromptu performances using single instruments such as harmonicas, ukuleles, and drums.

To honor the celebration’s French beginnings, the day of festivities will conclude with a free performance by Worakls, the rising French DJ and electronic musician, at the North Beach Bandshell hosted by the French Embassy Cultural Services with the support of the France Florida Foundation for the Arts and the City of Miami Beach, Cultural Affairs Program, Cultural Arts Council. Opening sets by local artists Haitian musician Inez Barlatier and DJ APACHE and will start the evening.

Go fish and enjoy Florida’s favorite open water pastime this summer while helping our nation’s heroes! Deliver the Dream, a South Florida-based nonprofit organization that organizes retreats for families experiencing a serious illness or crisis, will host its 8th Annual Fishing for the Dream Tournament at Lighthouse Point Yacht Club (2701 NE 42nd Street in Lighthouse Point) on June 29 and 30 to benefit a Family Retreat for Post 9/11 Combat Veterans. Registration is open through June 28 and more than $10,000 in prizes will be up for grabs.

The festivities begin with a Captain’s Cocktail Party and Silent Auction on Friday, June 29, at 6 p.m. at Lighthouse Point Yacht Club, a premier yacht club and multimillion dollar marina with 70+ slips that can accommodate yachts up to 120 feet. Fishing begins the next day, June 30, at 7 a.m., followed by a Family BBQ, Silent Auction closeout, and a fun-filled Awards Ceremony. The top boat will net $5,000 and prizes will be awarded for Top Lady Angler and Top Junior Angler.

To date, Fishing for the Dream has raised more than $250,000 to provide retreats for families dealing with critical illness and bereavement. This year, Deliver the Dream’s Post 9/11 Combat Veterans Retreat will host as many 15 families (at no cost to the participants) to help them enhance coping skills, reduce stress and cultivate relationships with other families who have a member suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or injuries. The retreat will also incorporate an educational component and offer therapeutic discussions. This retreat, along with nine other planned yearly retreats spanning various crises and medical conditions including autism, cancer, Down syndrome and epilepsy, combines traditional recreational activities with therapeutic activities, peer-to-peer discussion groups and expressive arts and music activities.

The 8th Annual Fishing for the Dream Tournament is presented by Lighthouse Point Yacht Club with support from Stiles, Salt Water Sportsman, Water’s Edge Marine Inspections & Construction, The Chappell Group Inc., City National Bank, Bluegreen Vacations, S&P Global, Scribe America, CarMax Cares, BoteBoard and Tito’s Handmade Vodka.

Registration starts at $250 and is open through June 28; two tickets to the Captain’s Party and four tickets to the Awards Family BBQ are included with each registration. Discounts are also available for early registration.

On June 30, Schnebly Redlands Winery will release the Lychee fruits of their labor in a most entertaining way during their Lychee Summer Celebration (LSC), partnering for the first time with the South Dade Chamber of Commerce and the American Cancer Society. The family friendly event has been a source of pride to the area, with South Florida being the only place in the Continental United States where the Lychee fruit is grown. The celebration will begin at 2pm, when the Farmer’s Market opens with 50 vendors and six food trucks. At the Grand Tiki Culinary Lounge, guests will expand their food knowledge and watch Cooking Demos on how to incorporate lychee, local and organic foods in the kitchen. A family Mud Run, an awards ceremony, and live music will round out the celebration only to culminate with a patriotic fireworks display.

“This year’s Lychee harvest is the largest crop we’ve seen in years, not only did the trees survive Hurricane Irma, but the crop was actually improved by the stress of Irma; it’s a testament to the strength of the South Florida community and its agricultural roots,” says Peter Schnebly, Founder of Schnebly Winery. During the Summer Celebration, the Winery will be offering three Lychee wines, and three limited special release Lychee beers from Miami Brewing Company. Several South Florida restaurants and food trucks will offer their culinary take on the Lychee fruit by way of creative recipes, such as Lychee Seafood Ceviche and Lychee Martini Ice Cream. The possibilities are endless, and Schnebly can’t wait to see their partners get creative with this year’s harvest at the Culinary Grand Tiki Lounge featuring StartUP FIU Food Mentors such as Half Moon Empanadas, Pro Kitchen Hub, My Ceviche, and Lulu’s Ice Cream, to name a few.

While guests enjoy the different variations of Lychee, they can also browse 200+ classic/modern Chevrolet Corvettes, custom cars, Jeeps, 4x4s and other classics throughout the day. The Lychee Summer Celebration Meet Up will be hosted by Corvettes & Coffee and Cecil’s Jeep Fam. Guests can also explore over 40+ artisan and craft vendors in the Artist Colony as they sculpt, sew and sand down hand-made goods. In addition, Live Painting Sessions will showcase some of the area’s best muralists using 40 ft. long shipping containers as their canvas.

At 5pm, the first Schnebly Family Mud Run will kick off, benefitting the American Cancer Society to fund cancer research. Participating runners will be given a glow necklace to display the Cancer they’ll be running for, while conquering an “all new” course compete with obstacles. While the five-kilometer course will honor the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners during an official ceremony before the fireworks, every runner will receive a medal to commemorate their run. All proceeds from the run will go to the American Cancer Society, and anyone who buys a ticket for the run will get free admission to the Lychee Summer Celebration; family members get special pricing on LSC tickets with Runner Registration.

Surfside’s tourism bureau brings back the much-anticipated First Fridays beach picnic series with a Summer of Love themed picnic. new “Burn and Brunch” experience. Every Saturday, an hour-long boot camp style workout, directed by rotating fitness experts, is held on the gorgeous, sandy beaches of Hollywood, FL. Following the class, Chef Geoffrey Zakarian’s Point Royal, serves a lavish breakfast / brunch buffet where guests can replenish with indulgent dishes such as malted waffles, smoked salmon, or even a choice from the salad bar, cereal station, pastry spread and more. For those who book burn and brunch, enjoy a glass of complimentary champagne to toast your accomplishment.

Miami, FL — The 2nd Annual Miami Jets is scheduled for August 22nd-23rd, 2018, at the AMPs Aero Club in the South Florida Area.
The remote control jet show features many pilots, an aerobatic jet show. Planes at this event include F-15, F-16, F-18 Super Hornet, BAE Hawk, and many planes to see, as well come see the 14-foot-long F-104 Star Fighter.
Sport Jet aerobatic show including high speed passes and 9G with the jets flying from 100-200mph, scales vary from 1/8 to 1/3 Scale, amazing replicas of the real Jet Fighters and all day fun of flying jets.
Food and drinks will be offered at the event a $5 Donation will be per car to help the club for future maintenance , Miami Jets flying starts from 9am till 7pm Saturday August 22 and Sunday August 23rd.

The Confidante Miami Beach, a playful oceanfront oasis in Miami’s mid-beach neighborhood and local artisan popsicle shop Cielito Artisan Pops announce a partnership with a kick-off event taking place on Saturday, April 21, 2018. In conjunction with The Confidante’s popular Backyard Saturdays, the hotel will host a unique pop-up event to debut Cielito’s new summer home. This edition of The Confidante’s Backyard Saturday showcases a special collaboration with The Confidante F+B team and Cielito co-founder Sindy Posso to create customized cocktail and popsicle pairings. In addition, the event will consist of a do-it-yourself topping bar where guests can decorate their Cielito pops with treats including sprinkles, marshmallows, almond shavings, gummies and more. Beginning at noon, the afternoon will feature a GLAMSQUAD braid bar, music by resident house DJ Uno Mas, a custom photo booth, pool floats and much more.

Available for the first time, guests will be able to indulge in a Confidante-exclusive Cielito popsicle called “The Confidante Pop” made with two flavors strawberry and coconut topped with white chocolate drizzle and coconut shavings for $7. In honor of Earth Day, the Fort Lauderdale Historical Society invites visitors of all ages to celebrate the living planet we call home! This year’s Earth Day theme is “End Plastic Pollution” and the riverside attraction will host the South Broward High School Coral Club who will demonstrate how we can stop water pollutants and help heal the aging coral on our reefs. Nova Southeastern University Halmos College Peer Educators will also be on-hand to answer questions about the marine ecosystem that surrounds us and Colorful Warrior Writers will offer a breezy literary respite from an otherwise warm and bustling day of activities on the New River.

Free (in front of The Historic New River Inn). For those wishing to extend their stay and visit the museum, general admission is $15 for adults; $12 for seniors and $7 for students (through age 22 with a valid student ID). Admission is free for members, military and children ages six and under.

Presented by the Fort Lauderdale Historical Society (FLHS), who, for 56 years, has brought the stories of our diverse community to life through engaging educational experiences, innovative cultural exhibits, research and preservation of artifacts. Residents and visitors to Fort Lauderdale are invited to explore the city’s rich past that is housed in five historic buildings on a lushly landscaped campus – the 1907 King Cromartie House Museum, the History Museum of Fort Lauderdale situated in the 1905 New River Inn, the 1905 Philemon Nathaniel Bryan House, the 1899 Replica Ivy Cromartie Schoolhouse and the Hoch Research Library, South Florida’s foremost history center housing print resources and newspapers from 1910-present plus 400,000 archival photos, 2,500 maps and 5,000 architectural blueprints.
