Legendary ballerina Patricia McBride will be the guest artist featured in Miami City Ballet’s first Open Barre of the season on Nov. 16-17. McBride was one of the great ballerinas at New York City Ballet, joining the company in 1959 and becoming its youngest principal dancer in 1961. At MCB’s intimate studio theater, McBride will discuss her prolific 30-year career working with George Balanchine and Jerome Robbins. Thirty minutes prior to each performance in the lobby, patrons can enjoy a complimentary “open bar” reception with cocktails by Absolut Elyx.

Trinidad-born and still in his 20s, trumpeter Etienne Charles is a compelling and exciting jazz artist ushering the jazz genre into groundbreaking territory His band and new album, Creole Soul, represents a captivating journey of new jazz expression, tapping into myriad styles rooted in his Afro-Caribbean background and plumbing the musical depths of the islands from calypso to Haitian voodoo music, and melding it with jazz. The results are electrifying!

Charles currently teaches jazz trumpet at Michigan State University. “As a person in the new world, I’ve been influenced by so much music. And my family has a mixed background of French, Caribbean, Spanish and African roots…. I come from a a fusion of rhythms, a fusion of cultures. That’s what this band is all about: a jazz-based focus on Creole soul music that is Creole at heart.”

The Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami (MOCA) is delighted to announce Ignacio Berroa as part of the monthly Jazz at MOCA series. The Cuban-born drummer has been praised through the years for combining folkloric rhythms with contemporary jazz and funk, along with being recognized as one of the greatest drummers of our time. Through his many years of performing, Berroa has collaborated with a number of legendary artists including Dizzy Gillespie, McCoy Tyner, Jackie McLean, Jack Bruce, Wynton Marsalis and Jaco Pastorius to name a few.

Berroa released his first solo album, “Codes,” in 2006, which was nominated for a Grammy in 2007. The album also won a Danish Music Award in 2007 for “Best International Jazz Album.” He stands proud on the recent Blue Note Records Mp3 entitled “Jazz Drumming Legends” which features some of the most renowned drummers in Jazz history. The public is invited to come sit under the stars and enjoy the Afro-Cuban rhythms by Ignacio Berroa.

The Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami (MOCA) is thrilled to announce Conjunto Progreso as part of the monthly Jazz at MOCA series. This long-established Cuban Son ensemble has charmed audiences everywhere with their ability to transport audiences to a nostalgic era of early Cuban popular music. Co-founded by Johnny Aguiló and Jose Elias in 1999, the group has since grown from a quartet to a group of nine members.

Through the many years of performing, Conjunto Progreso displays an array of legendary artists including Johnny’s father Rolando “El Ruso” Aguiló, Congrego Luis Miranda, and bassist extraordinaire Eddie “GUA GUA” Rivera of the renowned group Batacumbele. Their familiarity on stage spans back to many major orchestras and musical associations in Cuba.

Their anticipated debut album titled “Masters of Cuban Son” was released in 2004. The record showcased an array of songs by legendary Cuban composers and astonishing arrangements from several members of the group. Their music is so widely acclaimed by the American public that they were honored with a 2006 Grammy Award Nomination under the category of Best Traditional Tropical Latin Album.

Beginning September 1st, Red Bull Sound Select will host three nights of music from top artists and emerging talent at the inaugural Red Bull Sound Select Presents: 3 Days in Miami. The event will be hosted at The Hangar in Downtown Miami and tickets are on sale today to Red Bull Sound Select Members for $15. For 3 Days in Miami, Red Bull Sound Select has partnered with three local curators Poplife, III Points and YesJulz who handpicked artists to bring into the program and perform in the showcases. The Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami (MOCA) is delighted to announce this month’s musical performance by the Glyn Dryhurst Dixieland Jazz Band as part of the monthly Jazz at MOCA series. The Jazz Band’s name “Dixieland” is a name bestowed to the style of jazz performed by early New Orleans jazz musicians. This is one of the earliest styles of jazz music and the Glyn Dryhurst Dixieland Jazz Band is the leading band devoted to this genre of music. The style combines earlier brass band marches, French Quadrilles, beguine, ragtime, and similar styles to achieve this unique style of music.

While instrumentation and the size of the bands may vary, the “standard” band comprises a “front line” of trumpet, trombone, and clarinet; and the “rhythm section” of either guitar or banjo, string bass or tuba, or piano and drums. This intricate jazz sound of music is kept alive by a handful of dedicated bands.

The MOCA galleries will be open by donation from 7 – 10 pm.

The Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami (MOCA) will host a closing program and reception for the exhibition, Intersectionality. The exhibition features work by approximately 50 South Florida artists, as well as key artists who are based outside of South Florida. PALO! Is a Miami based band formed in 2003 by Steve Roitstein after he invited his fellow musicians to join him in an improvised musical experiement combining Cuban music with funk beats. The group has been nominated for a 2014 Latin Grammy Award for Best contemporary Tropical Album. The PBS documentary “Miami Boheme” featured the band and was nominated for a 2014 Suncoat Chapter Emmy Award for Cultural Documentary.

Alan began his career on Broadway at the age of 12 in the original Broadway cast of Oliver and worked extensively in stage, film and TV; some of the productions include The King and I, The Pawnbroker, The Pursuit of Happiness and The Patty Duke Show. After graduating from college, Alan was cast in the original Broadway production of Grease where he created the roles of Teen Angel and Johnny Casino. While still performing in Grease, Alan met Janis Siegel, Tim Hauser and Laurel Masse’ and together formed “The Manhattan Transfer”. The Manhattan Transfer has recorded over thirty albums, were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame and have received ten Grammy Awards. Known for their eclectic range of singing, they were the first group to ever receive two Grammys in both jazz and pop categories. Their album, Vocalese, received twelve Grammy nominations of including Best Male jazz vocalist for his rendition of “I Remember Clifford.” Vocalese won three Grammy Awards that year.

On July 29 the Rose Max Samba Party comes to the Museum of Contemporary Art from 8 to 9:15 PM.
The product of a long line of Rio de Janeiro musicians, Rose Max moved to Miami, becoming a familiar and welcome presence in the all too tiny local jazz scene. Her performances are perfect for chilling in a South Beach lounge while nursing a potent caipirinha. Max somehow manages to exude both vivacity and an easy earthiness in a wide range of styles, including bossa nova and samba. She is a three-time winner of the Brazilian Press award for “Best Brazilian singer in the US.”

The Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami (MOCA) is pleased to present Rose Max and Ramatis as part of the monthly Jazz at MOCA series. The duo provides a magical and musical experience with the beautiful voice of Max and the genuine Brazilian acoustic guitar of Ramatis. They provide the perfect mix of the soulful Brazilian music style. The duo has been recognized as “Best Lounge Act” and Max as “Best Female Vocalist.”

Max is a fan favorite and has performed for enthusiastic crowds at Jazz at MOCA previously. She has become highly recognized in the Brazilian, Spanish and American communities. Max won the Brazilian Press Award for the “Best Female Brazilian Singer Residing and Performing in the USA” three times.

Ramatis has been performing professionally at local bars and nightclubs since the age of 12. *WHO: Basement Miami’s “Gio’s Total Split Show!” invites guests to partake in a special edition of the amped up madness this Monday in Bowl, but this time on Ice, Ice, Baby! Participants will experience an interactive speed and performance bowling game, hosted by none other than the magnificent master of ceremonies, Gio, along with his sidekick Pin-Tits, and featuring sounds by Otto Von Schriach.

*WHAT: The rules of the game are simple. Each team must have 4-6 players, and they must all be present 15 minutes prior to their starting time. Each team must complete a game in less than 45 minutes.
The team that finishes first will receive a special prize. All teams that finish within the 45 minute time frame will be rewarded!

The Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami or MOCA, is pleased to present Lanzallamas Monofonica as part of the monthly Jazz at MOCA series. Lanzallamas Monofonica is known for its high-energy Afro-Latino rhythms that incorporate salsa and cumbia. MIAMI – The Opera Atelier brings to Miami a program combining opera and contemporary dance. The original choreographies by distinguished international choreographer Leyson Ponce are elegantly woven into the riveting staging by artistic director Jorge Arcila, while the excellent cast features young artists alongside seasoned performers accompanied by musical director Daniel Daroca. Concept conceived by The Opera Atelier creative team. Xiomara Ponce, Production Manager, Virtual Scenery Design by Erasmo Colón and costume design by Luis Alonso.
Silvia Ludueña, Greisel Domínguez, Kiley Hernández René Fernandez, and Jorge Arcila, will interpret anthological scenes from Italian operas, including La Traviata, Aida, La Favorita and Giulio Cesare, besides other musical surprises.
The backdrop will be the historic 1911 J. W. Warner House, a jewel of Miami architecture, which is the seat of the Miami Hispanic Cultural Arts Center and The Opera Atelier. The audience will have a chance to experience indoor and outdoor spaces during this unique artistic experience.

The Little Dreams Foundation (LDF) will be hosting its annual open musical auditions for children from 4 to 16 years old at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in the Paradise Live Theater. Singers and musicians, all instruments and musical styles are welcomed. Join us and audition to be a LDF Little Dreamer. Little Dreamers receive private lessons, and coaching and will perform live at the annual Dreaming on the Beach Gala. After a successful Music Conference launch we have now moved into an anticipated summer series at the pool. We will have the best of Miami entertainment with live performances, celebrity hosts, most successful DJ’s and the top nightlife Promoters from every venue in Miami, along with an a-list of celebrities, NBA-NFL-MLB players, models, special events and artists from every musical genre to name a few.
One Epic Summer launched successfully May 7th 2016 for the first time in Downtown Miami an event driven summer series once a month pool party on a roof top – Upcoming dates: June 12, July 16, Aug 13, Sept 3, & Nov 23rd 2016 – LIVE radio broadcast by Revolution Radio 93.5 FM
