Guests are invited to don their best white attire for the annual Masterpiece event, a chic cocktail reception featuring mixed media artist Cory Bennett. The party, called “20” for the museum’s 20th anniversary, will feature live entertainment as well as heavy hors d’oeuvres, wine and beer and a signature cocktail.

“Iconic Neo-POP,” a new show created by mixed media artist Cory Bennett, will be featured in the main gallery. Bennett combines pop themes, iconic images and neo-expressionist techniques to produce work that is wary of modern society. Born and raised in Las Vegas, Bennett has his own unique style of art that combines an urban “street” style with the use of found-media, providing the artist with an endless supply of complex and relevant subject matter.

In addition to Bennett, the Florida Watercolor Society will be featured in the East and Kuhn galleries. This 46th exhibition will feature works from Iain Stewart and Bev Jozwiak and is also part of the Society’s annual convention, which will bring nearly 500 artists from around Florida to Coral Springs.

The annual Masterpiece event is sponsored in part by Publix Supermarket Charities, Total Wine & More, Masterpiece Publishing, Broward County Cultural Division, State of Florida Division of Cultural Affairs, Coral Springs Festival of the Arts, and the City of Coral Springs, with proceeds supporting the educational programming of the Coral Springs Museum of Art.

What: Fashion students from Miami International University of Art & Design (MIU) to kick off Swim Week with their Swim/Resort Collection during 2017 Swim Fashion Week. Over 40 future student designers will showcase their creativity and skill with Swim/Resort Wear collection.

Additionally, MIU fashion students have created one-of-a-kind signature crafted resort/swimwear from McDonald’s packaging and paper goods. From Happy Meal haute couture to French fry box cover ups and hamburger wrapper hoodies, this unique McDCouture collection for both men and women will be featured during the school’s annual Swim Fashion Show.

Students from MIU have been hungry for another McDonald’s unconventional fashion challenge since their 2015 McDCouture fashion show whet the appetites of fashionistas around the world. This year, McDonald’s invited students to submit design concepts for men’s and women’s swimwear and is offering a $5000 scholarship for the best signature crafted design. The 20 most innovative looks were selected to be presented as part of the school’s Swim 2017 Fashion Show on Thursday, July 20. The aspiring designers utilized more than 7,000 McDonald’s sandwich wrappers, 2,800 fry boxes, 2,800 straws, 825 soft drink cups, 225 Happy Meal boxes, 2900 sandwich boxes, 1000 Sriracha sauce lids and 300 McFlurry cups to create their McDCouture Swimwear for the runway.

Creating and fostering more gender equal organizations is essential, yet challenging. Persistent cultural dynamics and deeply held individual beliefs are some of the key root causes of the inequality we see today, but research shows that de-biasing people’s minds is time-consuming and expensive. Focusing on structural solutions through behavioral design is a cutting-edge and proven approach to promoting gender equality.
Gender equality expert Siri Uotilla will discuss the latest insights from behavioral research and show how they can be translated into practical tools that advance equality in the workplace through improved sourcing, hiring, promotion and retention of talent.

Siri Uotila is a research scholar at the Women and Public Policy Program at the Harvard John F. Kennedy School of Government. She is an expert in promoting gender equality within organizations and in translating academic research into practical interventions to advance women in society. Siri has worked with Fortune 500 companies, nonprofits, and local governments to improve gender equality through such projects as researching culture and leadership at senior levels; designing a paid parental leave policy; and spearheading legislative advocacy to increase women’s representation on corporate boards. She also has experience in management consulting.
Siri has an MBA from Harvard Business School, a Master in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School, and a B.A. in Chemistry and Physics from Harvard College.

Slow Food Miami continues its “Snail Social” summer series on Tuesday, July 11 from 6-8PM at The Brick, a newly-opened farm-to-table restaurant in Downtown Dadeland.

Corey Bousquet, owner of The Brick, really wanted to create a space that guests felt comfortable in and can call their own. The decor is rustic, with white string lighting and a massive reclaimed wood pergola. He designed the kitchen to be open and expose the open flames of their brick oven, allowing guests to truly be immersed in the full dining experience.

Saxophonist, composer, orchestrator, producer, scholar, professor, and leader Ed Calle is known for his extraordinary ability to sight-read, interpret, and perform virtually any musical style. Throughout the globe, his peers and colleagues often laud his versatility. Despite his prodigious experience, he remains relentlessly demanding about his work. On the tenor sax, Calle has an expressive, full-bodied sound, almost vocal in the middle and upper registers, cello-like at the bottom. As a soloist, he can be deceptively brilliant. He has an impressive, fluid technique and uses it to explore the material at hand with logic and purpose.

The Venezuelan-born, South Florida-based Calle is a Latin Grammy award winner and a five-time Latin Grammy nominee. He is a first-call saxophone player and a musician who has played on more than 1,200 albums and 8,500 singles. He holds a doctorate in higher education leadership from Nova Southeastern University.

This two-hour walking tour highlights several of downtown Miami’s best historic buildings, most of which are on the National Register of Historic Places. Tour begins with a brief introductory presentation at MCAD, itself located in the 1912 Old Post Office Building at the center of the City of Miami’s Historic District and covers a three-block area in the core of the Central Business District. Whether you are an architect or just love architecture, this tour is for you!

Tour departs from MCAD rain or shine. All tickets are $20 or $15 for seniors and students. Each adult ticket admits one child under the age of 8 for free. Advance reservations online are required. In this wryly inventive parable, a kingdom within a painting is divided into three castes: the impeccably colored Alldunns, the incomplete Halfies, and the barely outlined Sketchies who are treated as outcasts. Few films inspire the imagination as much as Steven Spielberg’s landmark adventure film Jurassic Park. When released in 1993, its CGI and animatronic dinosaurs were unlike anything the world had seen before. It was hard not to believe an actual island was created with these long-dead behemoths roaming the land. Based on Michael Crichton’s book of the same name, the film follows paleontologists Alan Grant (Sam Neill) and Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) as they are invited by eccentric millionaire John Hammond (Richard Attenborough) to preview his new theme park located off an island in Costa Rica that is full of live dinosaurs. In May 1940, Germany advanced into France, trapping Allied troops on the beaches of Dunkirk. Under air and ground cover from British and French forces, troops were slowly and methodically evacuated from the beach using every serviceable naval and civilian vessel that could be found. At the end of this heroic mission, 330,000 French, British, Belgian and Dutch soldiers were safely evacuated. Christopher Nolan’s film of the Battle of Dunkirk is, hands down, the most eagerly anticipated film of the summer.

For the sixth year in a row — every Wednesday in July — Executive Chef Adonay Tafur and Chef Joshua Gripper will host a backyard throw down at The Dutch in the W South Beach Hotel & Residences. Chefs will craft a mouth-watering BBQ feast served up family-style, along with homemade pies and treats by Pastry Chefs Jaclyn Marshal and Richard Vaughn.

Winner of the 2006 International Trumpet Guild Jazz Competition, and the 2004 National Trumpet Jazz Competition, Jean Caze has emerged as one of today’s most exciting voices in jazz. Jean has performed with jazz icons such as Herbie Hancock, Najee, Arturo Sandoval , Roberta Flack, Al Jarreau, and George Duke to name a few. While still in high school, Jean performed with the legendary rock group “Chicago” live on NBC. In 2007, the Haitian-born trumpeter won second place in the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition.

Jean has received abundant praise from critics, peers and jazz enthusiasts alike who have taken to Jean’s lyrical tone and tasteful ideas. Batuke Samba Funk has quickly become one of South Florida’s favorite party bands in the last few years. The group mixes rhythms from Brazilian samba and with classic 70s American funk. The goal of Batuke is to “brazilianize” American sounds, and “Americanize” Brazilian sounds in a perfectly balanced fusion. The band is formed by several of Miami’s top Brazilian musicians including bassist and composer Diogo Brown, guitarist Cezar Santana and singer Mari Mac. They have performed with top Brazilian artists like Vanessa da Mata, and also James Brown’s legendary sax player Pee Wee Ellis. Their irresistible groove-fueled sound is influenced by top Brazilian and US funk and artists, including Jorge Ben Jor, Earth, Wind & Fire, Tim Maia and Seu Jorge, among others.

Come explore Miami’s historic downtown like an architect! See our city’s landmark buildings through an architect’s eyes, using a sketchbook and pen. In its 16th year, the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB)’s Miami Spice Restaurant Program returns with its popular Miami Spice Mash-Up series. The popular dinners will once again unite some of the city’s most beloved chefs for a night filled with indulgent dishes previewing their upcoming Miami Spice menus.

The first installment will take place on Thursday, June 22, 2017. Three of the city’s hottest waterfront dining destinations will team up for one-night-only – Chefs Raul A. Del Pozo of Lightkeepers at The Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne, Miami and Nicolas Mazier of TATEL at The Ritz-Carlton South Beach, will join forces with Paula DaSilva at her newly opened waterfront oasis, Artisan Beach House located at The Ritz-Carlton, Bal Harbour.

In synergy with the Million Orchid Project, the ongoing effort by Miami’s Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden to grow one million rare, native orchids and reintroduce them to South Florida’s urban spaces, Miami Design District, Island Planning Corporation, and True Tree Service, have collaborated to create a blooming ecosystem of rare epiphytes in the heart of Miami. We invite the community to join Miami Design District officials and Fairchild staff on Wednesday, June 21 at 5:00 p.m. for a ceremonial planting to launch the two-year program to plant over 2,000 native orchids in trees and plots in select urban areas. While previous plantings involved municipalities and schools, The Miami Design District is the first neighborhood destination to partner with Fairchild in the Million Orchid Project.

Having been decimated over the last century, these rare species are being gloriously reintroduced at the intersection of Paseo Drive and N 39 and N 40 Streets as part of a sweeping, large-scale horticultural installation by IPC of several-hundred specimen trees. This canopy of mature, native trees (from which the new orchids will hang) creates an ideal micro-climate for the region’s endangered species and enhances an already lush urban environment.

The ceremony will be followed by happy hour at OTL to celebrate the landmark moment. Guests are also encouraged to visit the Market #atMDD located in Jungle Plaza from 4pm to 9pm which will feature Fairchild’s STEMLab. STEMLab is a decommissioned school bus transformed into a state-of-the-art botanical propagation lab that gives visitors the opportunity to participate in the Million Orchid Project.
