Nestled in the Japanese countryside in a new and unfamiliar town, two young sisters meet enchanted dust bunnies and mythical beings while their father cares for their ailing mother. The girls first meet a small Totoro that leads them into the thicket of magical creatures that include the titular Totoro himself and a ride on the Cat Bus. As he is wont to do, Miyazaki imbues his protagonists with the utmost humanity in even the most fantastic of circumstances.
