Born in Rio de Janeiro, Rose realized she had the gift of singing at a very early age.

Everyone from her mother’s side was a musician. She is the great-grand daughter of the conductor and composer Cupertino De Menezes and grand daughter of the guitar player and composer Manuel De Menezes. Cupertino, also a flutist, was a band member of a “choro” group led by Callado Junior and Chiquinha Gonzaga, two of the most prominent musicians from this era. Manuel was partner – in music, adventures and “Bohemia – of the most important Brazilian composer in the early 30’s – Noel Rosa.

She started singing professionally with the Octeto Rio Orchestra performing jn the musically wealthy nightclub scene of Rio. She studied vocal technique with Graciela di Salerno, Nancy Miranda and Suely Mesquita. She also studied theory and ear training at the Instituto Vila Lobos and Centro de Instrução Musical Ian Guest.

Rose graduated with a degree in Portuguese and Literature from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. As a student, she was involved in various theatrical productions with the group “A Quem Interessa.”

Rose Max performed extensively as a soloist with the vocal group Aequale under the direction of acclaimed-musical director André Protásio. Gaining interest and respect locally, she started working with a number of different bands. One of her best experiences was performing at “Clube Do Samba” (Samba Club) where she had a chance to learn with some of the big names of Brazilian music, such as Maestro Licinho, Neco, Antonio Carlos Tourinho, João Nogueira, and Roberto Ribeiro. She also started working as a session singer, recording jingles and background vocals, which led to the opportunity of backing up some of Brazil’ s most renowned singers.

Rose moved to Miami in October of 1993, where she has been continuing to grow and develop musically, and by keeping a constant performance schedule, she has become highly recognized in the Brazilian, Hispanic and American communities. She won the Brazilian Press Award for the “Best Female Brazilian Singer Residing and Performing in the USA” in 1997, 1998 and 2001.

In 2005 Jimena Fama, an extremely talented vocalist, musician, composer and producer journeyed to her native country, Argentina to explore her musical roots and to capture the heart and soul of Tango. Understanding that both tango and dub had a subdued and deep sound, she decided to combine the genres. The result would be Electro Dub Tango, with a brilliant collaboration of renowned Tango musicians released in October 2005. The first branded album of a collection produced by MaktubRecords for Graziano’s Group.

With overwhelming response and popular demand, this project gave birth to her band…“Tango Conspiracy”. A talented plot of Miami and New York based musicians including Jimena Fama (Composer/Producer/Vocals/ Dj set / Guitar), Leo Barbosa / Juan Pablo Jofre Romarion (Bandoneon), Anibal Berraute / Maurizio Najt (Pianist), Jorge Carlos Oviedo (Violinist), Cedric Munch (Bassists) and Christopher Whitman (VJ) . Tango Conspiracy sets out to explore the deepest realms of this Argentinean folklore music by enhancing its subdued and intense mood with electronic dub undertones.

In January, 2007 Jimena wrote, produced and released the second album of Electro Dub Tango Collection. Electro Dub Tango meets Bossa Nova. A total inovative creation. It continues the trip to Buenos Aires making some stops in Rio. It’s Funk, it’s Lounge, it’s Tango, it’s Dub and it’s Bossa Nova.

Electro Dub Tango meets Europe is the third release! (2009). Mixing the Electro Dub Tango sound with old and new European influences was born this cool piece for the collection.

June 2010 World Cup Times …Fama’s conspiration and another album for the Electro Dub Tango Collection.

Tango and Fútbol (soccer), pop culture, unbridled passion. From the deepest beat of the Argentine heart, moving people, touching lives.

“Electro Dub Tango meets the World”, celebrates the euphoria of the new edition of the World Cup 2010, with subtle influences of the world of soccer and its African context.

Prepare to experience this unique and innovative sound!!
This an event you don’t want to miss MIAMI.

DJ Le Spam & Spam Allstars blend improvisational electronic elements and turntables with latin, funk, hip hop and dub to create what they call an electronic descarga. It’s not a known genre. It’s hard to describe. It attracts many types of people. But as they look out and see people dancing salsa, next to break-dancers, and festival-goers driving for hours to catch a show — they know something very special is going on.

Spam Allstars were formed by Andrew Yeomanson, a/k/a DJ Le Spam, who was raised in Toronto, Bogota and London, and has called Miami home since 1993. He got his start by playing guitar in Haitian band Lavalas, and recording and touring with Miami based artist Nil Lara. Along the way he added to his vinyl collection, and when off the road he would DJ locally. These DJ gigs evolved into collaborations with live musicians, performing on an internet radio show, recording in his home studio, and the first of many residencies combining his samplers & DJ skills with a live band.

In 2002, Spam Allstars began a weekly residency at Hoy Como Ayer in Little Havana, which continues today. In 2003 they started monthly residencies in New York City, Gainesville, Tampa, Atlanta, and New Orleans, and playing nationally wherever people would host them. Today they perform 200+ shows, and average 56,000 miles each year.

Events are held on the fourth Thursday of each month at choice venues around South Florida and host spotlight guests that provide value insight or connections in the entertainment industry.

This month, The FREC Council industry After Hours is spotlight DJ La Trice and Madai.

DJ La Trice Perry, widely recognizable name now, has formed her unique style from many of the melodic pioneers of the 70’s and 80’s…. a blend of Funky, Vocal, and Club House music.

Now, also a producer, La Trice is commanding the industry’s attention. She is widely sought after locally and internationally making guest appearances and claiming residencies at upscale clubs, lounges, and hot spots. She radiates energy that keeps the crowds moving and pulsates the “feel good” through her sound. She has performed for the masses on tours, festivals and throughout Europe.

Madai, the newest member of Mr. 305 Inc., is the quintessential Miami Latina, born in Guantanamo, Cuba and raised in America. She has a natural ability for capturing a moment and expressing its emotion in a song. A fan of all music, she is not tied to one style, rather her songs resonate with themes and fusions mixing Gospel, Hip-Hop, R&B, Latin, Country, Dance and Pop. She easily transitions from one culture to another, and blends these two worlds in her life and in her music.

Madai is not just an exceptional singer/songwriter; she is a talented dancer as well. Her natural dancing ability is an outgrowth of her Cuban roots having been taught how to dance salsa and merengue by her father at a very young age.

Our mission is to grow the local economy by organizing events that attract the entertainment industry to Miami and South Florida, and promoting international filming, small business development, and community revitalization for filming areas.

Hundreds of South Florida’s most influential corporate, political and community leaders will come together in support of City Year Miami at the nonprofit organization’s annual Red Jacket Ball on Saturday, March 24, 2012. Widely considered one of the most high-energy, highly-anticipated events of Miami’s benefit season, the Red Jacket Ball celebrates the work of 134 City Year Miami ‘corps members’ and raises funds for the organization’s In School, On Track initiative.

This year’s event begins at 7:00 pm at downtown Miami’s J.W. Marriott Brickell Hotel, located at 1109 Brickell Avenue. A special ‘After Hours Gala Post Party’ hosted by Miami Dolphins football star Davone Bess will follow. Univision TV news anchor and EMMY-award winner Maria Elena Salinas and Miami-Dade County Public School Superintendent Alberto Carvalho will both be honored for their longtime support for City Year Miami. Businesswoman and philanthropist Ravneet Chowdhury is serving as this year’s Red Jacket Ball committee chair.

“City Year Miami’s impact within the Miami-Dade County Public School system has grown exponentially in recent years, and we have bold plans to expand our reach even further in 2012,” said Saif Ishoof, Executive Director of City Year Miami. “The financial support we receive through our Red Jacket Ball will provide the funding necessary for recruiting additional corps members and entering new schools next year. That involvement will make a direct, positive difference in the lives of students attending at-risk schools across our community.”

The Red Jacket Ball is City Year Miami’s largest fundraising event of the year, with 80% of all event revenues going directly to the organization’s programs. City Year Miami’s corps currently includes 134 members at 13 schools across Miami-Dade County; plans are underway to expand to 195 corps members in 16 schools in 2012. Corps members provide academic support, mentoring, and after school programming, as well as lead community-based service initiatives.

“We are turning around the lowest-achieving schools in our community, and we could not do this without City Year,” said Assistant Superintendent of Miami-Dade County Public Schools Nikolai Vitti. “Through our partnership with City Year, attendance is climbing, student attitudes are improving, and grades are rising. The culture of entire schools is being transformed by their can-do spirit.”

This year’s Red Jacket Ball Gold Sponsors are CSX, Beasley Broadcasting Group, Lovett-Woodsum Family Foundation, Brad and Cori Meltzer Charitable Trust, Miami Herald, Pasha’s Healthy Mediterranean Cuisine, and Royal Caribbean Cruises, Ltd. Silver Sponsors include Bank of America, Miami Dolphins, T-Mobile, and Becker & Poliakoff. The gala committee includes Ivette Arango, J.C. del Valle, Gloria Fonts Suarez, Will Freyre, Dr. Anthony Japour, Cristina Llorente, Ben Moss, and Gillian Smith.

Miami Unites to Fundación Bella – A “Beautiful” Campaign to Fight Breast Cancer

(Miami, Florida) – Mexican photographer, Martin Gavica, is the Founder and President of “Fundación Bella” (Beautiful Foundation), a campaign designed to raise awareness about breast cancer, and educate women on the importance of self-examination for early detection.

Gavica visited Miami during the month of February and scheduled photo sessions in a Brickell studio.  He photographed 208 women representing countries from all over the world, including Canada, US, Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Bolivia, Uruguay, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay, and Spain to name a few.  To date, he has photographed more than 5,000 women from all over the world.

Gavica started the campaign as homage to his mother who died 2008 after a 9 year battle with breast cancer.  He has taken the campaign through all the states of Mexico and has also been invited to visit New York, California, Massachusetts, Washington, Texas, Arizona and Minnesota among other states within the U.S. “It’s not just about my mother anymore” – says Gavica – “it’s now about the survivors.  [The campaign] is moving along with its own force, and I’m just going with the flow.”

Jose Negroni is a pianist and composer of remarkable creativity and brilliance. For many years one of Puerto Rico’s prominent musicians, Negroni’s Trio is his own solo vision and the fulfillment of a longtime dream.

Negroni was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico. He received a bachelor’s degree from the Conservatorio de Música de Puerto Rico, where he also taught for over sixteen years while establishing a successful career as one of the island’s most sought-after musical directors, producers, and arrangers. He has worked with pop artists Chayanne, Carmita Jimenez, Yolandita Monge, Jose Luis Rodriguez and Braulio, among others, as well as with Jazz greats Ed Calle on saxophone, percussionist Sammy Figueroa, trombonist Juan Pablo Torres and renowned violinist Federico Britos.

In 1995 Negroni moved to Miami where he became Creative Manager for Sony Music Publishing Latin, mentoring and signing many young writers, meanwhile developing his own compositions and concepts. His first album, “Naturaleza/Nature” on Universal Music Latino, contains elements of jazz, pop and Latin music and pays tribute to the spirit of his native island in tunes such as ‘Isla’, ‘Coqui, Coqui’ (which refers to the little frog which only dwells in Puerto Rico) and ‘Nature’, the title track of the album, inspired by the fresh and rich landscape of Puerto Rico’s natural paradise. As a member of a new generation of Puerto Rican artists, whose sensibility goes beyond salsa, Negroni is obviously involved in a grand love affair with the acoustic piano and his music has a delightful beauty, anchored in jazz with hints of classical lyricism and New Age.

Negroni’s Trio is also drummer Nomar Negroni, José’s son, an amazing young musician in his own right,. Celebrated saxophonist Ed Calle also appears as a special guest on Negroni’s album and in many performances. Since its release, “Naturaleza” has gained increased notice on jazz and new age radio throughout the United States and Negroni’s Trio has been quietly picking up a devoted following. Negroni’s shows at Van Dyke’s Café in South Beach have been attracting an increasing audience who appreciate his quiet lyricism and brilliant piano improvisations on both standard and original material. Negroni’s Trio embarks on an extensive calendar of events and venues sure to capture any audience.

For RSVP: gpineres@creativasgroup.com.

All media interested in covering the event, please contact Creativas Group at info@creativasgroup.com for all interviews and coverage requests.

Chef Juan Chipoco has made quite a name for himself and his eatery Cvi.Che 105, located in Downtown Miami. A year after opening its doors, this energetic immigrant turned-entrepreneur has left a stamp on the magic city. Chipoco along with partner Luis Hoyos and a stellar staff will invite VIPS, media and celebrities to join him for a very special event, a full-on celebration, the three-year anniversary of Cvi.Che 105 and the launch of Pollos y Jarras his new concept. Pollos y Jarras will open right next door to his already established restaurant. The by-invitation only red-carpet (award-show style) soiree will take place February 24, 2012 from 7:00PM-11:00PM with a presentation, ribbon cutting and lots of surprises.

Juan Chipoco has gained a reputation for having somewhat of a “Midas touch”. Just shy of two decades ago this charismatic gentleman arrived to South Florida with a vision and desire to build something. After years working his way in the food industry, building a knowledge base of all the elements needed to run a restaurant, today he has his own. The key to his indisputable success? Before “making it”, Chipoco held every possible kitchen position during his tenure behind the scenes. One can see all that experience, passed on to his staff, via extensive training and mentoring to provide the highest level of service to a rock solid client base that includes: city officials, professionals, celebrities and faithful “foodies” wanting to experience his unique style of authentic Peruvian fare.

Three years after perfecting his first concept, Chipoco decided to launch his next: Pollos y Jarras and the Wasska Lounge. This, his next installment will be a 6000 square foot location, with two levels and a fabulous outdoor lounge, offering more health conscious cuisine infused with genuine Peruvian spices. The name which translates to “chicken and pitchers” (in Spanish) will accommodate up to 200 guests, serve lunch and dinner with late night dining available on the weekends “a-la Miami”. During the spectacular event the end of this month, invited guests will get a first look at this great location which, located in the heart of Downtown, will only have one competitor, its sister location.

How does one introduce such a dynamic new project [Pollos y Jarras] and celebrate such success of it’s now three-year old sibling [Cvi.CHe 105]? Well, by closing one full city-block, during one of the most important weekends in Miami and inviting all those who help make this great city one of the most popular destinations on the map. Most importantly, an event such as this must be done in true “Chipoco-style”, paying close attention to detail, presentation and of course organization.

What to expect? The red-carpet event will commence with cocktails and hors de oeuvres and feature non-stop eye-catching production. Guests will get to be part of one of the largest parties in town and mingle with the most active names in the city. A spectacular collaboration between Emi Guerra/Go Big Productions, Zhantra Entertainment, Tony Guerra/Citrus Miami, Liza Santana/Creativas Group PR and the Chipoco team, the event will be the hot ticket to attend at the end of this month.

Annual event in support of homeless children and teenagers will be an “all star” evening

Community leaders and key influencers including senators, judges and Superintendent Alberto Carvalho will be in attendance for the All Star fundraiser to support critical initiatives by Miami Bridge Youth & Family Services which provides emergency shelter, counseling and care for homeless children and teenagers in Miami-Dade County and beyond

Miami Bridge Youth & Family Services, Inc., Miami-Dade County’s only emergency shelter for abused, neglected and abandoned children and teenagers, is proud to announce the countdown to its signature fundraiser, Bridge to the Stars, An All Star Evening, presented by City National Bank.

Taking place Saturday, February 11, at the JW Marriott Marquis Miami in downtown Miami, the special fundraiser is hailed as one of the most unique of the season, where attendees will play sports – of sorts – to support an incredible cause. Guests, who will include some of South Florida’s most notable community leaders and activists, will have the chance to bowl in the hotel’s state-of-the-art virtual bowling alley and play pool as well as dance and enjoy lavish cuisine and cocktails.

“This is not only one of our most important events of the year, but one of the most exciting, and it’s an honor to be overseeing it,” said Miami Bridge board member Marlene Quintana, who is co-chairing the event. “Thanks to the countless people involved, Bridge to the Stars has grown in success and continues to generate critical funds for Miami Bridge and the youth it serves.”

Miami Bridge, the City’s only emergency shelter for children and teenagers ages 10-17, provides critical services to youth in crisis including counseling, family counseling and education. Funds raised through Bridge to the Stars will go toward bolstering that outreach.

Event attendees will not only have access to some of the JW Marriott Marquis Miami’s renowned amenities, including the chance to see its NBA-approved basketball court, but a raffle with prizes including a basketball signed by every current player with the Miami Heat.

Miami Bridge Youth and Family Services, Inc, a not-for-profit organization operating out of Northwest Miami-Dade and Homestead for more than 20 years, provides emergency shelter, food and counseling for troubled youths and their families. The organization, which acts as a catalyst for new beginnings, works to rescue kids from lives of victimization and crime, and provides them with structure in a stable and nurturing environment. Miami Bridge shelters more than 800 children and counsels more than 550 families every year, providing them with solutions, alternatives and hope. For more information on Miami Bridge or to get involved, call 305-636-3520 or visit www.miamibridge.org.

Homegrown Cuban Blues singer/songwriter raising funds for her next CD
Visit Kickstarter Page

After 3 years of touring in the US, Europe, and Cuba, Sol Ruiz heads back home to Miami to begin recording her first full-length CD in Studio 71 with Bobby MacIntyre. To raise funds for the record, Sol along with Kickstarter will be having a fundraiser at PAX Miami on Feb. 10th. She will be in town for only one month before returning to Europe for continued touring.

The album is influenced by social matters such as the effects of the Cuban embargo that kept her from meeting her family in Cuba, technology’s way of possessing people’s lives, and the abuse by doctors prescribing drugs to healthy patients just because they want everyone to believe they have a disease.

Hailing from the remote location of Perth, West Australia, saxophonist and composer Troy Roberts has recently relocated to the USA. Having completed a Masters and currently teaching part-time at the University of Miami, Troy recently won two consecutive Downbeat Jazz Soloist Awards, two consecutive West Australian Music Industry Awards, was the only Australian finalist in the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition, and continues to maintain a busy performance schedule around Australia, Europe and the USA.

Having shared the stage with greats such as Sammy Figueroa (performing on his Grammy-nominated album, The Magician), Robby Ameen, Lew Soloff, Lauryn Hill, James Morrison, Kevin Mahogany, Slide Hampton, Gary Bartz, Geoff Keezer, Rodney Whitaker, Carl Allen, Dennis McCrell, Jeff Hamilton and John Clayton, Troy recently released his third album, The XenDen Suite – an 8-part composition for jazz quartet and string quartet – and also his first DVD – a live concert performance of The XenDen Suite.
Troy leads the exciting nu-jazz project, Troy Roberts’ NuJivee, which features some seriously talented young Miami-based artists, while showcasing Troy’s original compositions – an eclectic concoction of jazz, groove, Latin and neo-soul. In March 2011 they released their first CD, “Nu-Jive”.

One of Florida’s most popular and fastest-growing martini lounges, Blue Martini, is transforming into “Moulin Rouge” with a spectacular New Year’s Event Celebration. Blue Martini is known for many things in Miami; upscale crowds, sexy waitresses and great music are among the many things people associate with them. There is one other thing, however, that comes only once a year; their New Years Eve parties. Always strategically themed, Blue Martini’s New Years Eve parties are for tourists and natives alike. This year’s theme is “Moulin Rouge,” which screams sexy from the get go. With an open bar, and yes you read that correctly, from 8pm to 11pm and bottle services starting at only $250, there’s no wonder why Blue Martini is such a hot spot all year round.

Art Basel Day 6-Brunches, Brunches and more Brunches By Betty Alvarez

Sagamore Brunch
The Sagamore’s annual Art Basel Brunch, one of the most sought-after events of the season, was hosted by hotel owners, Mary and Cricket Taplin in partnership with six local museums: the Bass Museum of Art, Lowe Art Museum, Miami Art Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami, The Patricia & Phillip Frost Museum of Art at FIU and the Wofsonian-FIU. Besides the brunch I took an opportunity to see Will Ryman’s 65 Street Rose Sculpture-a colossal road bed, soaring over 20ft. high, that bloomed on the hotels beachfront. The Brodsky Center for Innovative Editions was also exhibiting at the Sagamore. Lots of photographic artwork by many artists. A great viewing addition to the brunch.

Tudor House Brunch
Food Network celebrity chef and partner Geoffrey Zakarian along with Executive Chef Jamie DeRosa kicked off Tudor House’s new Rosé Brunch during Art Basel weekend. Zakarian was on-hand to talk brunch, while The Vincent Rafford Quartet plays and a traveling Bloody Mary cart delivered the perfect daytime cocktail. However, the spotlight is the Rosé Wine list, consisting of a curated selection of special varietals representative of regions from Anjou to Provence. The menu, offered both Saturdays and Sundays starting at 11am, covers both breakfast and lunch themed options. On the lighter side, a raw and crudo assortment included Florida stone crabs, Wild Alaskan King Crab and West Coast Oysters.

My Brickell by Karim Brunch
International design talent Karim Rashid, named by TIME the “Most Famous Industrial Designer in All the Americas,” made an in-person appearance for the launch of mybrickell’s sales center. Karim signed his latest book Sketches and presenting his mural of ideas and designs for his first-ever condo design at mybrickell. Guests were encouraged to wear pink in honor of Rashid’s iconic dress attire, making a colorful visual. The 192-unit tower will be centrally located in the heart of Miami’s Brickell area when it breaks ground in the first quarter of 2012. The center showcases Rashid’s energetic designs to serve as an impacting vision to future residents and brokers.

Coconut Grove Art Starts in the Grove

“Art Starts in the Grove” presented a synergy of 11 contemporary and fine art galleries, plus a special 3D Atrium featuring works by the late Cuban master sculptor Manuel Carbonell. The Grove collaboration will showcase works by artists who range in genre, age and background, offering something for all art lovers.Tibetan-born and Australia residing artist, Karma Phuntsok, traveled to Dharma Studio in the Grove to merge polar ideas. Creating “a modern expression of an ancient craft” by merging the two worlds of old and new into one eye-opening idea. Taking art enthusiasts on a trip through man’s subconscious mind, Rodez Art gallery will present “Fact or Fiction” by gallery owner George Rodez. The exhibition explored the relationship between life and dreams, and the struggle to leverage them both. George Rodez will also include 3 pieces from his “Dreams” series. Multiple award-winning photographer Patrick Farrell was featured at the Hunter Gallery displaying works by the same series that earned him the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Photography. Described as “provocative, impeccably composed” photos, the series depicted a brutal hurricane season in Haiti, displaying the fragile country’s humanitarian disaster. Inviting its 2011 Best of the Best winner back for special showcase exhibition, the Coconut Grove Arts Festival Gallery presented the newest pieces by award-winning, Florida glass blower Duncan McClellan. With the upcoming release of the Hollywood film My Week with Marilyn, starring Academy-Award Nominee Michelle Williams, this pop culture hub will feature a well-timed exhibit titled “Tribune to Marilyn Monroe.” International artists have always made a home Coconut Grove and this year is no different. Boswell Mourot Fine Art Gallery welcomed international artist, Hans Feyerabend as he brought his award-winning “New Works” collection to its walls. Guests enjoyed fruit, wine, and cheese while admiring the feature works of Isabelle “Izi” Schuette, a local Grove artist. For those who want to express their creative side, GroveHouse will also be hosting “Imagine—Let The Inner Artist Out” – an exhibit that encourages everybody to live and express the energy of art. Helping to raise money for Miami Children’s Hospital, the gallery will host a fundraiser event by auctioning the dynamic works of internationally-known contemporary, Latin American artists Milena Arango, Julio Nieto and Angelo Valenzuela.

Annette Recommends Capital Grille

We went to Capital Grille on Brickell for dinner, which was my first time at a Capital Grille.  The food was amazing, we started off with the Prosciutto wrapped mozzarella with vine ripe tomato with a balsamic glaze.  For the main course I got the lamb Chops and they were cooked to perfection and tasted amazing. James ordered the Porcini rubbed with 12 year aged balsamic which I have to say was one of the best steaks I have ever had.  To go with the main course we ordered the creamed corn and with smoked bacon and the fresh mozzarella , tomato & basil salad with 12 year aged balsamic. For dessert we had the cheesecake with fresh seasoned berries and the key lime pie both were so good.  The whole meal was amazing, everything was cooked perfectly, displayed beautifully and served from an awesome staff.

Some of their signature items are Pan Fried Calamari with Hot Cherry Peppers, Bone-In Kona Crested Sirloin with Caramelized Shallot Butter and Flourless Chocolate Espresso Cake.

Vagabond Swing at PAX Miami 12/14/11

PAX Miami Presents Vagabond Swing
Wednesday December 14, 10 PM
337 SW 8th Street
Miami
305-640-5847

Vagabond Swing have played with Rebirth Brass Band, Spoonfed Tribe, Honky, Galactic, Peelander-Z, Scott Biram, Danny Barnes, and many more. Played Foburg Fest, Wakarusa, Laffy International Fest, SXSW and more. Have tours coming up with Garage A Trois, Dead Kenny G’s and Fishbone. Great guys, great music, great times!

Vagabond Swing released their debut album, “Soundtrack to an Untimely Death”, in December, 2010!!! These guys are really handling their business! 7 piece band that describe themselves as an acoustic punk hybrid, boasts Mandolin, upright bass, dueling trumpets, dueling guitars, and one of the best front-man drummers you have ever seen. Their sound is Gypsy Punk Afro Jazz Zydeco Ragtime Swing Space Rock and more. Very technically driven with a fun sound that makes you dance your ass off!! Really cannot say enough about this bands live performance. This record has many people anxious to get a look!

Tony Daigle (4x Grammy winner, 17 Grammy nominations) produced the record. He recorded Eric Clapton and Vagabond Swing at the same time, while running 2 radio shows in separate cities. That is just for starters.

Click www.myspace.com/vagabondswing to listen to their music.

“I can’t seem to say enough good about [Vagabond Swing]. Their jazz-flecked gypsy music changes tempo and uses some seemingly Afro-Caribbean percussion…definitely one to watch around the Lafayette music scene.” Times of Acadiana

Pet Costume Competition: Pets welcome for the “Best Artsy Costume”

About Art Zoo 2011: “To celebrate the tenth anniversary year of Art Basel Week in Miami, I decided to create an event that would make guests smile, laugh and feel good”, remarks Hope Gainer of Hope International. “There is so much serious art and scenesters seeking the hottest parties during this action packed week, so I wanted to offer something on the lighter side and go in the opposite direction and bring in some furry friends to warm the heart and soul. After all, dogs are a man’s best friend.” “What better than to share your art passion with your ‘best friend’ ?” Attendees can bring their dogs to our exhibition and have them compete in the “Best Artsy Costume” competition. We will also have dogs available for adoption at the event. So if you don’t have a ‘best friend’, you can adopt one at our event!

We have extended invitations to a few celebrities who never seem to leave home without their doggies! Does Paris Hilton or Mickey Rourke come to mind?!

Education is another component of our event to relay the importance of spaying and neutering. Pet overpopulation is a serious problem in our country.

All of the art installations and performance art will have an animal related theme. Art Zoo 2011 will present a diverse selection of both renowned and emerging artists from around the world.

We invite you to “Help us save a life!”

Miami Artists Unite To Raise Awareness Of
Local Endangered Species At
“Seventeen”
At The Gallery At Cortada Studio

Miami artist Xavier Cortada has invited 17 fellow Miami-based artists to create original works depicting one of the 17 threatened and endangered species that call Biscayne National Park home. The project, entitled “Seventeen”, will be exhibited at The Gallery at Cortada Studio Thursday, December 1, 2011 beginning at 6 p.m., and will feature works by: BMD, Anthony Burks, Diana Contreras, Eleazar Delgado, Clay Frye, Vince Herrera, Kazilla, Kid, Ernesto Kunde, Monique Lassooij, Sri Prabha, Sean Ritchwood, Courtney Rutter, Alexandra Seda, Yoko Sigiura, TMNK and Alex Yanes.

“Seventeen” follows Cortada’s 2010 project in which he created a mile-long installation consisting of 360 flags running from the entrance of Biscayne National Park to the water’s edge: 360 participants each painted a flag depicting an endangered animal representing each of Earth’s 360 degrees.

Featured artists’ pieces will be displayed at The Gallery at Cortada Studio alongside Cortada’s original drawings of the seventeen species — including the Wood Stork, the Key Largo Rat and the Smalltooth Sawfish. Cortada created the 17 drawings on carbon paper as a metaphor for the impact (or “carbon footprint”) that humans have had on these species, even across the boundaries of protected nature preserves.

The gallery will also display 180 drawings of Cortada’s “Endangered World.” Cortada has created “Endangered World” installations at the South Pole (2007), North Pole (2008), Holland (2009) and Biscayne National Park (2010), as well as online participatory art projects (www.endangeredworld.org), to engage community members in addressing the large-scale loss of our planet’s biodiversity.

Speed Dating at Blue Martini Brickell 10/24/11

Speed Dating – Blue Martini Brickell
10/24/2011, 7:30pm
Blue Martini Brickell
900 South Miami Ave. #250
Miami,FL 33130
www.bluemartinilounge.com

Give that giant wine glass and your TIVO remote a rest. Go on, put’em down. Nothing cures the blues like a classy night out on the town, and no one does the dating thing as good as the appropriately named Heart Tango. Why not bring the best of both worlds together? Meeting someone at the grocery store or the neighborhood sports bar just ain’t working out. Admit it! Let the professionals handle all the tedium and weed out the hesitation – there isn’t a better way to meet people like you.

The venue is the fabulously hot-right-now Blue Martini lounge, and love is in the air. What better to elevate the mood that one of the 42 different specialty martinis offered at this slick spot. You’ll probably pass on the tapas, and get right to the point anyway… dancing! Nothing beats the sexy energy of this place, and before the night is through, you’ll have found someone to do bad things with you.

Enjoy a complimentary drink and appetizer!!
