Coral Gables, Florida which is no stranger to fine dining establishments is about to get a culinary boost from an indigenous Dominican miracle potion named “Mamajuanaâ€. The owners of the famous Mamajuana Café in New York are ready to open their doors locally and treat Miami residents to the feel, sights, tastes, and sounds that have had the Big Apple buzzing for years.
A formal ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 6:30 pm with Coral Gables city officials, celebrities and the owners of Mamajuana (Victor Osorio, Carlos Saint-hilaire). Following that “welcome†into the South Florida community, the kick off celebration will commence. Passed hors de oeuvres, Mojitos courtesy of Bacardi, Champagne courtesy of Korbel and fresh rolled cigars courtesy of South Beach Cigar Shop will keep guests of this high end soiree smiling as they are the first to step foot into Mamajuana in Miami.
Mamajuana represents a place where all five of the senses will delight. Nestled across the street from “The Village of Merrick Park†Mamajuana Café will embark guests on a journey to a far off “paradiseâ€. A full-on entertainment and dining experience, Mamajuana Cafe was created for the patron possessing an appreciation for culture, art, and cuisine. The venue is an attraction in itself as it stays true to pre and post Columbian Dominican culture.
The owners of Mamajuana Café considered every detail as they carefully blended pre-Columbian artifacts and feel with old world Spanish architecture. The name “Mamajuana†itself is derived from a drink created by the Taino Indians who are indigenous to the Dominican Republic. The Mamajuana drink is a concoction made of herbs, roots, rum, and wine which has been used as a cure all that treats everything from impotency to the flu.
Much like the Mamajuana drink the Café will act as a cure all for patrons as the venue transports them from the mundane to an exotic Dominican paradise. One can indulge in amazing cocktails, an award-winning wine list (under the direction of Sommelier Yamil Martinez) and live entertainment. But the real star of the show is the cuisine. Acclaimed Chef Ricardo Cardona, a pioneer of Nuevo Latin Cuisine who created the Mamajuana menu in New York will oversee the kitchen creating the menu in Miami as well. Cardona, who has been featured in numerous publications including The New York Times, The L.A. Times, and The Chicago Tribune, has worked in a variety of French and American restaurants before accepting his current task at this venue situated in one of the most prominent areas of South Florida.
On Thursday February 19th 2009 the grand opening will be like an awards ceremony complete with a red carpet filled with local, regional and national/international celebrities. Onlookers will get to feast their eyes on all that equals a “wow†factor such as the most fabulous exotic vehicles out in the market parked out front courtesy of Elite Luxury Rentals, body painted models and performers courtesy of Zhantra Entertainment and Drawing on People, music, surprise performances and much, much, more. Once inside the venue, guests will have the opportunity to sit amidst the beautiful ambiance the ownership had created, including original artwork by artist Alex Yanes.
Guests, VIPS including: Tito Puente Jr., Fernando Del Rincon, Tony Andrade, Nuestra Belleza Latina Alejandra Espinoza, Shalim, Latin Grammy Winner Jorge Moreno, Charytin Goyco, Karol Rosa, List Alea, and media will be present as this opening takes everyone on a journey, a fabulous one embracing a concept straight from NYC to the city of beaches and amazing nightlife- Miami.
The Mamajuana grand Opening will take place with a ribbon cutting at 6:30pm, cocktail reception with music from 7-10pm. Promotional partners include: Presidente Beer, Got It Concierge, Gables Magazine, One Source Branding, and the UM Transplant Foundation.
For additional information on Mamajuana Café in Coral Gables, or grand opening festivities, please contact: Creativas Group (305) 968-2384 and via email at: info@creativasgroup.com for media coverage, and interviews. 11th Annual Medical Marijuana Benefit Concert
At Tobacco Road
Hosted By
Ploppy Palace Productions
On Saturday, January 24, 2009 Ploppy Palace Productions and Tobacco Road will be hosting the 11th Annual Medical Marijuana Benefit Concert to raise funds for FL NORML’s (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws) medical marijuana campaign and the protection of patients’ rights. As part of this four stage extravaganza, some of South Florida’s top bands, spoken word artists and community activists will join together for patients’ and physicians’ right to use medical cannabis.
As a testament to the diversity of supporters for this cause, there will be a broad variety of musical styles including jazz, rock, reggae, folk, vocal harmonies, hip-hop, funk, experimental, tribal rhythms, world beat fusion, psychedelic grooves and various interactive jams.
Johnny Dread, Sweetbone, Jahfe, Day Music Died, Mr Grim Reapa, The Aurapool, Kuyayky, Addax, Carl Ferrari & Friends, The Tribe, The Southwood Project, Ana Kanpa, Togen, Robby Hunter, Shawn Snyder, Val C Wisecracker, Deep Water Willy, Orrin Bolton, Steve Minotti, Ryan Rachel, Jacob Jeffries Band, Starving Artist Tour, The Brian Elliot Hot Box Social, Under No Order, Jenna’s Boneyard, LaGuardia, Rayko/KRB, UOM, Hoosha, Tristan & The Juice, The Aleatoric Effect, Chris Beatz, The 7D, Nacho, The Int’l Language and more will be showcasing original music.

Happy Holidays from Michail Capponi:
From the bottom of my heart I wanted to wish all of you very happy holidays.
As most of you will recall, last year around the holidays, we launched an annual event called “A Toast to United Way” to raise much needed funds for our community. Last year’s inaugural event festivities extended over four-days, with celebrations at more than a dozen elite venues on South Beach including Cameo, China Grill, Florida Room, The Forge, Glass, Mansion, Mokai, Mynt, Opium Garden, Prive, Rokbar, Sagamore Hotel, SET, Snatch and Suite.
I am once again chairing this event for United Way. This year, film director Michael Bay was gracious enough to open up his beautiful home, the former Hogan estate renovated by Capponi Group, for our 2nd Annual “A Toast to United Way”. The director of such blockbusters as Transformers, Pearl Harbor, and Bad Boys, Bay is serving as the host for the evening.
The invitation-only event will be held at 8 pm, on Saturday, December 27, 2008 at Bay’s Miami Beach home. Tickets are $250 per person. VIP tickets, which will allow guests to join Bay and his celebrity guests on a private rooftop lounge, are available for $500 per person. Fine cuisine is graciously catered by The Forge and top shelf drinks generously provided by Diageo. Following the reception, all guests will be invited to an after-party. Proceeds go to support the work of United
Way of Miami-Dade.
As the event chair I am urging you all to come support the United Way and its great causes to help fund over 70 different charities in our Miami-Dade county areas.
Please call Maria Zuniga at 305 646 7020 or email to zuniga@unitedwaymiami.org for tickets.
Thank you, I’m looking forward to see you on the 27th.

Start The Week With An Incredible Journey
Kicking off the week in style, the White Journey event debuts this year at Score Bar. Thursday, November 27th will be your chance to dance the night away with the hottest bodies in Miami Beach. Score Bar is located at 727 Lincoln Road right in the heart of South Beach. Featuring 2 spectacular rooms with 2 amazing DJs, Thursday night at Score is a favorite of locals and visitors alike and a party not to be missed.

His unique fusion of funky rhythm, tribal sexiness and electronic edge attests to that freshness of creative expression that never tires on the dance floor.
Serving sexy beats in the Crème Lounge is Miami’s very own DJ Pride. Pride’s ability to embrace her audience is a divine gift. But what truly illuminates her artistry as a DJ is her capacity to not only effortlessly blend house genres but to transcend them by saturating her music with pure emotion. Pride’s talent is matched only by her passion. Tickets are avaialbe online and at the door.
