School is out but Camp STEAMology is in! Children ages 5 – 10 can travel “Around the World” December 26 – 29, from 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

In this four-day program, campers will learn about the different continents of the world diving into the science of zoology, migration and behavioral patterns, weather models and more. They’ll even engineer a coral nursery that is resilient to weather fluctuations. Children will explore different cultures around the world and create an art piece with diverse cultural influences.

South Florida’s award-winning attraction featuring 150,000 square feet of dynamic science exhibits, an outdoor science park, a live animal collection, a rotating schedule of science shows, learning labs, café, store and a grand atrium featuring the Great Gravity Clock, a 52-foot-tall kinetic energy sculpture; the largest clock in Florida. The showpiece of the museum since 1993, this unique timepiece is one of only three in the world.

Children can also visit MODS’ newest traveling exhibit “Thomas & Friends™: Explore the Rails!” Rail. The exhibit was created by the Minnesota Children’s Museum in partnership with Mattel, Inc. and is nationally presented by Fisher-Price.

Fort Lauderdale Beach has never been cooler with the debut of The Wonderland RINK at Las Olas Oceanside Park, a 4,000 sq. ft. eco-friendly, technological marvel that brings the thrill of ice skating seaside, under blue skies and swaying palm trees. Founded by a mother whose daughter was killed by a drunk driver, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) is the nation’s largest nonprofit working to protect families from drunk driving and underage drinking.MADD also supports drunk and drugged driving victims and survivors at no charge, serving one person every nine minutes through local MADD victim advocates and at 1-877-MADD-HELP. In Southeast Florida, the organization’s annual Walk Like MADD & MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5K, taking place in Downtown Fort Lauderdale on April 28, 2024, has raised more than $3.7 million since 2011. Under MADD Southeast Florida, hundreds of free events take place each year to educate youth and parents on the dangers and consequences of impaired driving in Broward, Palm Beach, and St. Lucie Counties.

Get ready for a memorable night of legendary Queen hits as the James L. Knight Center in downtown Miami hosts a spectacular QUEEN tribute concert featuring the sensational Marc Martel. Marc Martel, the Canadian singer-songwriter, gained international recognition in 2007 with his viral YouTube video of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody.” Known for his vocals almost identical to Freddie Mercury, Martel was selected in 2011 to front the Queen tribute band One Vision of Queen. With extensive global tours and high-energy performances, Martel continues to captivate audiences worldwide.

Tri-Rail’s “Winter Wonderland” presented by Herzog returns to Tri-Rail’s Miami Airport Station on Saturday, December 9, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The free, family friendly event will feature interactive games, food trucks, holiday carolers, face painting, cookie decorating, bounce houses, a coloring station, festive costumed characters, photos with Tri-Rail’s mascot Conductor George Green, and a special appearance by Santa.

Attendees will enjoy holiday tunes by the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music carolers, plus onstage live entertainment by Santa Claus and local singers who performed at Tri-Rail’s South Florida Kids Got Talent competition. Kick off the opening of Gary Simmons: Public Enemy, and Miami Art Week, with a conversation between artist Gary Simmons and exhibition curators Jadine Collingwood, René Morales, and Franklin Sirmans.

Gary Simmons: Public Enemy, co-organized with the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, is the first comprehensive career survey of the richly layered work of Gary Simmons and features nearly 70 sculptures, paintings, photographs, works on paper, and installations, as well as several large-scale wall drawings the artist will create on-site. Simmons, Collingwood, Morales, and Sirmans will discuss how Simmons and his work have played a key role in situating questions of race, class, and identity at the center of contemporary art discourse.

Over the course of his career, Simmons has aimed to expose and analyze histories of racism in visual culture. He has revealed traces of these histories in sports, cinema, literature, music, architecture, and urbanism, while drawing heavily on genres such as hip-hop, horror, and science fiction.

Simultaneous interpretation into American Sign Language, Haitian Creole, and Spanish will be provided.

MODS is open an hour early for sensory-friendly Museum exploration and activities followed by an IMAX film at 12:30 p.m.

To provide a more sensory-sensitive environment for individuals on the autism spectrum, the theater lights will be turned up and the sound will be lowered. All films will be presented in 2D. No trailers will be shown before the movie. Audience members are welcome to get up, sing, walk, dance and shout without worrying about complaints. Families may bring snacks from home, as well as blankets and other small items to be comfortable.

Guests can also participate in a variety of sensory based activities throughout the Museum. Children will engage in social interactions and improve the processing, modulation and regulation of sensory input to increase participation in a natural environment.

Don’t miss this special opportunity to experience South Florida’s award-winning attraction featuring 150,000 square feet of dynamic science exhibits, an outdoor science park, a live animal collection, a rotating schedule of science shows, learning labs, café, store and a grand atrium featuring the Great Gravity Clock, a 52-foot-tall kinetic energy sculpture; the largest clock in Florida. Celebrating its 40th Anniversary, the Parade will feature all the color, vibrancy, laughter and mischievousness that has been its hallmark for four decades. Feeding South Florida® – the leading hunger-relief organization in South Florida – will host the “Wine and Bourbon Experience” at its Boynton Beach Warehouse on Tuesday, Dec. 5, 6-8 p.m.. Ring in the New Year with a free, beachfront concert with Miami’s premiere professional orchestra, Orchestra Miami! The 42 musicians of Orchestra Miami, led by Artistic Director Elaine Rinaldi, will perform with special guests, The Latin Divos. The Latin Divos take Latin Pop, traditional opera arias and Timeless Classics and “Divo-ise” them by adding their Latin flair. Singing in Italian, English, Spanish and French, they have performed in prestigious theaters and venues in the USA, Mexico, Cuba and Panama. Expect to hear timeless favorites such as O Sole Mio, Jurame, Nessun Dorma, Allelujah and much more!

This open-air, family-friendly evening starts at 8 PM with a performance by the Orchestra Miami string quartet, performing festive music to get you in the holiday mood. Children (ages 6 – 12) are invited to an evening of fun and science with MODS educators at Kids Adventures After Dark: Winter Wonder Night at the Museum.

Caregivers can enjoy a night out while children have an action-packed evening exploring MODS after dark. This MODS adventure includes pizza, exhibits exploration, and IMAX film and cool science shows and activities!

South Florida’s award-winning attraction featuring 150,000 square feet of dynamic science exhibits, an outdoor science park, a live animal collection, a rotating schedule of science shows, learning labs, café, store and a grand atrium featuring the Great Gravity Clock, a 52-foot-tall kinetic energy sculpture; the largest clock in Florida. The showpiece of the museum since 1993, this unique timepiece is one of only three in the world.

As part of PAMM Free Second Saturdays, and in celebration of Miami Art Week, join Salvadorian artist Studio Lenca and PAMM Teaching Artist Angela Bolaños, and collaborate on an ephemeral site-specific communal art installation.

Inspired by PAMM collection artist Lenca’s artwork titled Cobijas (bedsheets), visitors can create their own vibrant visual narratives, and hang them for viewing on PAMM’s waterfront terrace. Use symbols and text to connect your personal identities and culture with communities that migrate from their country of origin. Also, visit the WeCount activation and learn about their work in our local community advocating for immigrant rights, as well as agricultural, construction, and domestic workers.

For the rest of the day, you can explore the galleries, grab a meal at Verde, or sit back and enjoy the breeze on the waterfront terrace.

Pérez Art Museum Miami’s (PAMM) Caribbean Cultural Institute (CCI) kicks off Beyond Representation, a research and exhibition project focusing on performance art practices from the Caribbean and its diasporas, with a two-part program showcasing the rich creative and artistic contributions of Caribbean and Latinx artists to the American avant-garde.

First, watch “¡Fenomenal! Rompeforma 1989–1996,” a documentary about Rompeforma: Maratón de Baile, Performance & Visuales, an experimental dance and performance festival that took place in Puerto Rico from 1989–1996. This screening will be followed by a conversation with film co-directors and pioneer choreographers and performance artists from Puerto Rico, Merián Soto and Viveca Vázquez.

Then, enjoy the reenactment of Vejigante decrépito, a live performance by Puerto Rican visual artist, dancer, choreographer, performer, and Rompeforma participant Awilda Sterling Duprey. Vejigante decrépito draws on the figure of the vejigante, a folkloric character typical of Puerto Rican carnival celebrations.

Miami’s iconic downtown hotel, InterContinental Miami continues its annual Miami Art Week participation with Artistry of the World, a showcase of international artists, painters and sculptors curated by famed artist Noel Santiestaban. Each year, 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 43,000 die. Despite remarkable advances in treatment and early detection, breast cancer remains one of the most frequently diagnosed cancers among American women, and it remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths. Heart disease is the number 1 cause of death in American women, claiming over 400,000 lives each year, 1 in 3 women or one death every 80 seconds.

The 42 musicians of Orchestra Miami, led by Artistic Director Elaine Rinaldi, will perform with special guests, The Latin Divos. MADD Southeast Florida is kicking off the 13th Annual UKG 2024 Walk Like MADD & MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5K presented by the Sheriff’s Foundation of Broward County with a meaningful event on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2024, at BBX Capital in Fort Lauderdale. Guests will enjoy light bites provided by Red Chair Catering, mocktails and a unique opportunity to win exclusive prizes such as beautiful jewelry from Daoud’s Fine Jewelry and more. Guests will also enjoy a performance by a poet from the Jason Taylor Foundation’s Bluapple Poetry Network. Money raised stays in the South Florida community to save lives and support victims of drunk driving.

Special guests include Walk Like MADD and MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5K Founder and Chairperson Heather Geronemus, MADD National President Tess Rowland, local dignitaries and more.

From 2019-2021, drunk driving deaths in the United States increased by 31 percent. This is a 100 percent preventable crime, and MADD’s goal is to see a future with no more victims.

The 13th Annual UKG 2024 Walk Like MADD & MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5K presented by the Sheriff’s Foundation of Broward County will take place on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at SE 1st Avenue and Las Olas Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale. More than 1,000 walkers and runners are expected to attend the event. Since it was established in 2011, this event has raised more than $3.7 million that stays in the South Florida community to save lives and support victims of drunk driving, making it the most successful grassroots fundraiser in the history of Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
