A huge perk of living in a city with consistent weather year-round is not having to think about the functionality of our clothes. That is, we rarely have to worry about dressing to face different metereological conditions (wind chill, rain, snow, etc.) so we have come to perceive clothes as more of an accessory, less a survival necessity. Then we travel and this mentalityâ€”groomed by years of not having to worry about whether our outfit will help or hinder us in an apocalypseâ€”gets us in trouble. It’s the reason we found ourselves this week in the Outer Banks facing 64-degrees and 13mph winds in nothing but ripped jeans and a thin, long-sleeve t-shirt. (Apparently what we call “Fall clothes” in Miami is severely inadequate for dealing with actual Fall weather.) Although frozen solid and absolutely miserable, we decided to grin and bear it for a long overdue Miami style post because nothing is prettier with Fall clothing photo shoots than actual signs of Fall in the background. South Florida celebrated seafood, waterfront living and the start of the stone crab season by way of The Coconut Grove Seafood Festival at Peacock Park. For the third year in a row, event organizers brought together an array of seafood vendors offering bushels of shrimp, oysters, crawfish, lobster, stone crab, fish and clams prepared in a variety of ways.

The well known Casablanca Fish Market overflowed with fish from around the world that folks were able to select, purchase and take home after they had their fill at the festival. The Kitchen Lab featured cooking demos by popular South Florida restaurants.

The event was very family oriented. Children played inside the inflatable pirate village in the Family Fun Zone. There was also VIP Island for those who preferred a more exclusive experience.

As if all this wasnâ€™t enough, the afternoon had a constant stream of live music including calypso, steel drum, island escapism and reggae. The Festival also featured several nautically themed exhibitors showcasing art, jewelry and home decor.

The folks at SWARM have definitely put together another winner!…We canâ€™t wait to be back next year!

Animate! Miami is a three day festival and convention meant to celebrate Anime, Animation, Cosplay and other cool stuff that we love! The event takes place at the Miami Airport Convention Center and Doubletree Miami Convention Center Hotel and will include celebrity guests, industry guests, vendors, exhibitors, artists and hundreds of events. Peacock Park in Coconut Grove was the setting for Grovetoberfest which served over 300 unlimited beer samplingsÂ from around the country and around the world. Beer lovers gathered to try new releases, tap into old favorites and take part in Timed Tappings, which offered unprecedented access to specialty brews.

The Milamâ€™s Kitchen Lab showcased award-winning, South Florida chefs who shared their fusion cuisine, beer pairing and cooking tips.

The Bougainvillea’s Live Music Stage featured South Florida favorite bands and food vendors were onÂ hand selling everything from burgers to beer cupcakes.

The Nader Latin American Art Museum has launched the Botero Monumental Sculpture exhibit at Bayfront Park in Miami featuring 15 large-scale sculptures created by world-renowned Colombian artist Fernando Botero. Admission is free.

This past summer, Italian cuisine master and all around bad-ass chef, Michael Pirolo, prepared a private Italian feast filled with Prosciutto di Parma for some very lucky guests.

The ham is almost as old as Italian cuisine itself with the earliest references to Prosciutto di Parma dating back all the way to Roman times around 100 BC. The ham has a very strict certification. By law it can only be produced in the gently rolling countryside surrounding the city of Parma in north central Italy. The ham must use Italian-born and bred pigs raised according to the highest standards on which they are monitored, inspected and traced.

Once the ham is ready to be cured, a highly experienced maestri salatori (aka salt master) applies a minimal amount of sea salt necessary to produce a ham with the desired savory-sweet flavor profile. This is also the reason why Prosciutto di Parma tastes less salty than other ham varieties. Dolphin Mall is set to celebrate the holiday season by creating a magical winter wonderland experience for shoppers, complete with nightly snowfall powered by the imagination of children. The annual tradition begins Wednesday, Nov. 25 and will continue through Sunday, Jan. 3, 2016.

There will be no snow on Christmas Eve (Dec. 24), Christmas Day (Dec. 25), New Yearâ€™s Eve (Dec. 31) and New Yearâ€™s Day (Jan. 1, 2016).

The Business Improvement District (BID) of Coral Gables makes dining dreams come true in one event with the start of the 2015 Giralda Under the Stars presented by Zacapa Rum dining al fresco series. More than a dozen restaurants and bars on the renowned Restaurant Row on Giralda Avenue, located between Ponce de Leon Boulevard and Galiano Street, will bring culinary excellence and libations outdoors for diners to enjoy, literally, under the stars. Restaurant Row will be closed to vehicular traffic, and participating restaurants will fill the street with tables and chairs, live music and entertainment from 7 p.m. to midnight every first Friday of the month through April 2016. The first event in the series on November 6th, 2015, will be hosted by Miami Herald food editor and renowned foodie Evan S. Benn! Beginning in Miami and Miami Beach during the post World War II era as a local variation of modernist architectural movements in other parts of the world, MiMo buildings add glamour, fun, and material excess to otherwise stark, minimalist, and efficient styles.

The Fontainebleau, Eden Roc and Deauville hotels and garden style apartments are stunning examples of MiMo â€“ featuring acute angles, delta wings, sweeping curved walls, and soaring pylons. Like Art Deco, there is a strong preservationist movement to preserve MiMo from the wrecking ball. The present development boom is relentless in its quest to replace this architecture with highrises.

In some cultures a totem is believed to be a sacred spiritual guide, a cultural reverence to ancestry or an homage to a mythic past. In the exhibit, TOTEMS seven artists interpret their perceptions of what is idolized and worshipped today from the saintly to the irreverent. Borrowing elements from science and technology to politics and religion, the real and the imaginary often colliding to inspire new mythologies realized in contemporary iconography and materials.

One of the most interesting, refreshing and informative ways to spend an afternoon in Miami Beach is to take an Art Deco Cocktail Tour. As the name implies, you will be walking around the Art Deco gems of South Beach while stopping at a few of them to enjoy a libation.

Recently, Christine Michaels of Art Deco Tours invited a group of bloggers to participate in the experience. We all gathered at the Z Ocean Hotel where Christine immediately made us feel welcomed, she introduced us to James Cubby who would serve as our guide along with Christine.

It was an amazing experience!

Even if youâ€™ve been in Miami most of your life (such as myself) the Art Deco Cocktail Tour is a wonderful way to get re-acquainted with Miami Beachâ€™s wonderful history and architecture, not to mention the depth of information that can only be acquired from seeing and walking through these magnificent masterpieces. Just take the tourâ€¦you wonâ€™t regret it.

Miami City Ballet will kick off its landmark 30th Anniversary Season with a red-carpet opening night celebration at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in Miami, on October 23, 2015 at 6:30pm.

Outside the Box3, curated by Lisa Rockford, is the third biennial exhibition of outdoor, site-specific art in Palm Beach County, FL. This unique and alternative format, situated at the prestigious Whitespace – The Mordes Collection, will feature the work of 35 innovative contemporary artists. Selected artists will create site-specific installations that interact with the landscape & outdoor environment.
The curator will give preference to installations that include interactive and/or multi-sensory elements, and incorporate or adapt well to the site. Installations should incorporate a light source and have visual impact/high aesthetic appeal.
The site is located on a lake waterfront with a sand beach, and features a landscape with a long stretch of grass, elements of bushes and trees and a building with concrete walls and a wrap around tarmac.

Miami Dade Collegeâ€™s (MDC) MDC Live Arts will present the U.S. debut of Combinado Argentino de Danza (CAD), Saturday, Oct. 17 at 8 p.m., at the Colony Theatre. The renegade collective of dancers, musicians, DJs, and artists from Buenos Aires create a dynamic universeâ€”where hip-hop, contemporary and Argentine folkloric dance engage and evolve in a constant state of conversation and transformation. Ticket are $25 for the general public and $10 for MDC students.

CADâ€™s signature is the diversity of disciplines and styles that exist within it. Unlike other multi-disciplinary dance companies that aim for a fusion of genres, CAD instead maintains and plays with the variety of independent expressionsâ€”seeking common logic or provocative interactions within a shared space. Reflecting our contemporary, globally-influenced and culturally-expanding society, it is a salad bowl versus a melting pot, and the results are striking. On November 15th, come join â€œMoving Dayâ€ Miami with the National Parkinson Foundation to celebrate this national day of awareness. We are expecting 2,000 Miami residents to come out and move together. Moving DayÂ® Miami, Walk for Parkinsonâ€™s, presented by the Terranova Corporation is a national grassroots movement that spotlights the crucial importance of exercise for those with Parkinsonâ€™s disease.

The event will take place at Bayfront Park, and include movement activities such as yoga, Pilates, Zumba and Tai Chi. Moving DayÂ® will also feature a one-mile walk at 10:00 AM. Registration opens at 7:30 AM and the event will go on until 1:00 PM.

After a successful 2014 run, Turkish Film Festivals USA returns to Miami from October 13th thru 15th. All screenings will take place at the Colony Theater located in 1040 Lincoln Road in Miami Beach. As it is customary, all screenings are free and open to the public.

This year, the festival is bringing to Miami the best of what Turkish cinema has to offer. Opening the festival will be The Miracle, a masterpiece by world-renowned director Mahsun Kirmizigul.
