For the past couple of years, South Florida has celebrated Colombian Independence Day at MegaRumba Colombia. SWARM and iHeart’s Tu 94.9 have revamped the festivity into an all-encompassing celebration with a broader reason to celebrate at MegaRumba: Celebrate YOUR Independence. This coming July 15, celebrate YOUR culture at the, free, all-day event in Wynwood — Miami’s most culturally dynamic neighborhood.

The free festival will run from 3PM to 3AM. It will focus on South Florida’s rich and vibrant melting pot, with special attention to its deep musical influences. People can expect to see activities for all ages throughout the day with programming moving into a full-blown concert as the day progresses. Handpicked art/craft vendors and food trucks will be available until the very end, offering a little bit of everything that makes South Florida so unique and tasty. In the past, organizers have brought Latin Billboard winners including Maluma, Grupo Niche, Jorge Celedón, ChoquibTown and Victor Manuel. The musical lineup will soon be announced, but it will include local town favorites and top performances provided by iHeart’s Tu 94.9 FM, a major sponsor since its inception.

The Haiti Jazz Roots Project is an electric blend of outstanding musicians performing jazz-infused folkloric Haitian music. Led by guitarist Jean Chardavoine, the group comprises of Jennifer Louis (vocals), Mike Levine (piano/keys), Kenneth Jiménez (bass), Matisou Légba (Haitian drams) and Shay Eisten (drums).

Haitian-born but Brooklyn-bred, Jean Chardavoine is a concrete manifestation of the new emerging genre “Haitian Jazz.” Jennifer Louis is a Miami based vocalist whose performance experience can best be described as nothing short of electric. Mike Levine is a man of many talents whose career is a blend of different aspects of music and Kenneth Jimenez is a young talent emerging in the South Florida Jazz scene. Matisou Légba, a well-known Haitian drummer, has been studying and playing the traditional Vodou rites and tempos for over 25 years. This talented mix of musicians creates a unique music experience unlike any other.

Kick off the holiday weekend by enjoying the jazz-infused Haitian music of The Haiti Jazz Roots Project. The museum galleries will be open by donation from 7–10 p.m.

Wynwood will see the streets come alive for the fourth annual Wynwood Life! It is held in Miami’s Art and Cultural District and is a true celebration of all things we love about South Florida – Food, Art, Music and Fashion! Twenty thousand people will fill the streets perusing art, crafts, jewelry and over 100 vendors all while being entertained by live art and music and noshing on local fare from over 40 food trucks!

WynwoodMap.com and The RAW Project will curate the Live Art Stage featuring a wide variety of street artists from around the World. The festival encourages students and emerging artists to take part in the “Emerging Artist Competition”. Wynwood Life is proud to have the Miami Art & Design Education Institute (M.A.D.E.) as the presenting sponsor, because M.A.D.E is known for elevating people’s art and design career to the next level by way of their industry-driven approach to education, through coaching, mentoring, and networking in the heart of Miami’s Art District. In addition, WYN 317 Gallery will be the gallery partner as well as being on the selection committee.

Over 20 bands and DJs will occupy the Live Music Stage featuring local favorites and hometown bands gone big such as Otto Von Schirach, Tamboka, Jeano Music, Hoy Palloy, Zander and many more.

The Style Lounge will offer free services including nail polish changes, a braid station and Henna. The Spot Barbershop will have a pop up for the men, and stylists will showcase multiple fashion shows by local boutiques, fashion bloggers including iShine365, Dyme Lyfe, graciouslylovedllc, Koko and Palenki, to name a few.

The Wynwood Culinary Showcase will feature top restaurants and chefs from the area providing teachable moments such as Chef Cesar Zapata from Phuc yea, who will teach us how to cook a whole fish. This year, the stage will also invite South Florida chefs outside of Wynwood who are taking the culinary scene to a higher level. Scheduled to make demos are Max Santiago, Bunnie Cakes, Crave Clean, Copper 29, and more. The Bitter Truth will have a pop up where they’ll carve the ice for each cocktail with a chainsaw, and they will also compete against Employees Only to come up with the “Best Cocktail” at Wynwood Life.

L Bar, the cocktail lounge and live music venue housed in the lobby of Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, has launched two new exciting music platforms to its weekly line-up: Thursday Latin Night and Friday Emerging Artist Series.

Thursday nights from 8 p.m. – 11 p.m., L Bar will embrace South Florida’s rich Latin influence, celebrating the culture’s musical roots with live performances of diverse sounds and rhythms from local acts. On Fridays from 9:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., L Bar will profile local talent with emerging artists performing original music and covers in a variety of genres. On Saturday nights from 9:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., guests can find resident DJ Hen Siso, spinning a wide range of sounds.

South Beach gets a piece of Mykonos on Sunday, March 12 at Villa Azur, as the Mediterranean restaurant opens its doors for an exclusive brunch and dinner experience by Mykonos’ 2017 James Beard Award featured chefs Chris Athanasiadis (owner and chef at “Nice N Easy Restaurant) and Panagiotis Diamantis (Executive Chef at Rodors Palace Hotel). Downtown Dadeland, an urban culinary and lifestyle center, will be hosting its Winter Block Party on Feb. 4 from 5-10 p.m. to celebrate the recent unveiling of ‘Spectrum,’ an iconic 29-foot sculpture designed by award-winning sculpture artist Gordon Huether. Attendees will enjoy live music by the Miller Road Band and DJ Volkmusik, along with food and beverages from Downtown Dadeland’s culinary masters, including: Barley an American Brasserie, The Brick American Kitchen and Bar, Ghee Indian Kitchen, Harry’s Pizzeria, Pasion del Cielo coffee, Lime Fresh Mexican Grill and World of Beer. The event will also feature the StyleMarket fashion and art bazaar, and a meet-and-greet with the sculpture artist, whose talent for intuitively reacting to the materials and the space they occupy, whether indoors or out, has led to the successful completion of over 60 public art projects and more than 160 private art commissions.
