Join us for the closing reception of a comprehensive exhibition of works by the famed Miami artist, Purvis Young (1943-2010).
Purvis Young was born in Liberty City in 1943 and grew up in what was still known in his youth as “Colored Town”, now called Overtown. He grew up with few prospects for achieving anything like the “American Dream” in his lifetime. He dropped out of all-black Booker T. Washington High School after 10th grade, and by age 18 was serving four years of hard time a Raiford State Prison for burglary. Prison, however, brought him back to drawing, and when he returned to the streets of Overtown in the early 1960s he was eager to express himself through art. Purvis painted and drew constantly. His work reflected the despair and injustice of the urban and immigrant poor in Miami, as well as the larger national issues of the time – the Vietnam War, urban riots, police brutality the vast influx of refugees from all parts of the world. Despite the hard times, Purvis also reflected hope and redemption in his paintings – angels, saints, freedom horses and the promise of new life. The work is simple and sometimes even brutal, but few who see it can fail to be moved.

Purvis Young’s works can be seen in more than 40 public galleries and museums, including the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the American Folk Art Museum, the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Corcoran Gallery. Several eminent art collectors, including Mera and Donald Rubell, William Arnett, Skot Foreman and others have acquired large numbers of Young’s work.

Ken Brown co-founder of Gallery 2014 will present a talk about the collection and Purvis’s life and times at 3:00pm.

At age 15, she represented the USA at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, Spain in the sport of rhythmic gymnastics. After being a three time USA National Champion and competing in World Class international events, she moved on to dancing professionally in NYC & Los Angeles.
Tamara’s versatility as a dancer, gymnast, rhythmic gymnast, aerial artist and contortionist led her to having an over 20 year career as a working professional dancer. She danced on three world tours with Madonna (Drowned World, Reinvention, Confessions), and alongside other countless popular artists. Her off-Broadway NYC debut was in hit aerial shows “De La Guarda”, and later became part of the original cast of “Fuerzabruta”.
Mrs. Levinson is currently working as a choreographer & movement therapist. Tamara has been teaching all styles of movement for over 20 years and continues to consistently create works of her own in all mediums of movement art.
Workshops breakdown:
“Your body is your subconscious mind.” – Dr. Candace Pert.
Your body is your only true home. The only thing you can’t escape or hide from, therefore the greatest tool you own that to be able to search other dimensions of self and release blocks the body stores. Movement therapy is a very personal experience of self-exploration guided by Tamara Levinson within a safe space of fellow BEYOUtiful warriors all uniting to connect on a deeper level.
Tamara will guide you through various exercises where you will be challenged to creatively use your imagination to explore your inner being. The movement is the tool, the breathe is the map, the voice is the reminder. Be prepared to move free and explore all aspects of self unapologetically.
This workshop is ALL LEVELS.

Blue Moon Hotel Miami Beach Presents “Fridge Art Fair Miami: The Art Bagel Edition”
Press Release (ePRNews.com) – NEW YORK – Aug 17, 2017 – Blue Moon Hotel Miami Beach Presents “Fridge Art Fair Miami: The Art Bagel Edition”

December 4-10: Fridge Art Fair returns for the 5th year to Art Basel | Miami Beach and Art Week Miami after an enormously successful 50 Shades of Fridge at the NU Hotel Brooklyn

during Frieze Week- New York 2017.

(Miami – August 1, 2017) – Fridge Art Fair has just announced that this year’s Miami fair entitled “Fridge Art Fair Miami: The Art Bagel Edition ” will be held from December 4-10 at the modern and historic Blue Moon Hotel in the heart of South Beach during Art Basel.

The esteemed Fontsquared has been appointed the curators of the fair. The husband and wife artist team, Ignacio and Jean Font ( https://fontsquared.org ), aim to create a uniform work of art by considering shape, form and color in their careful selection of works.

“We are honored to partner with such a gem of a hotel and to have such a talented curatorial team behind the scenes,” said Eric Ginsburg (http://www.worldoferic.com) Founder and Director of the fair. “Blue Moon’s spectacular art deco design will be a great backdrop to the amazing and diverse artwork featured at Fridge. Some of the new elements of the fair, such as a craft bazaar and video lounge, are really going to take this Fridge to the next level!”

A highlight of “Fridge Art Fair Miami: The Art Bagel Edition” is the “Fridge Magnet Project.” This project, open to all artists and art lovers, invites participants to create a magnet to be displayed during the fair. More information about participating in this truly Fridge Spectacular project can be found on the fair’s website. ( http://fridgeartfair.com )

Fridge Art Fair is also partnering with the Dog Wall of Fame Foundation, a branch of Fridge Art Fair, to present the “Fridge Dog All Star Wall of Fame.” Showcasing some of the world’s most renowned four-legged friends, inductees will be announced during the VIP/Press Bagel and Lox preview on Sunday December 3r d from 1-8pm. The nominees include fan favorites such as Toto, Spud McKenzie, and Lassie.

The video lounge, which will take place in Blue Moon’s scenic courtyard, will display “Fridge-a-delightful” videos that are thought provoking, fun and moving, and, like all Fridge’s activities, a reflection of the world at large. The world’s first Fridge bazaar —The Mini Bagel Bazaar Marketplace — will also take place during the fair in the courtyard. More details will follow.

About Fridge Art Fair: Fridge Art Fair was born in 2013 on New York’s Lower East Side. Fridge Art Fair is the boutique, soft sell, dog-friendly satellite fair dubbed by Artinfo as “the baby who has refused to obey orders to stand outside the door while the adults confabulate inside.”

About Eric Ginsburg: Fridge Art Fair Founder and Artist Eric Ginsburg, ( http://www.worldoferic.com ), is best known for his unique and whimsical dog and cat portraits which consist of soulful and painterly qualities. Ginsburg credits his success to the Sol LeWitt as a patron and friend who commissioned works, and served as a mentor, along with William Wegman, who served as both Eric’s “pen pal” and as a “kind of a hero.”

Ginsburg’s works are found in public & private collections around the world including: Herb & Dorothy Vogel Collection of the National Gallery of Art; Corrie ten Boom Museum, The Netherlands; New Britain Museum of American Art; The Cartin Collection; Cindy Sherman; Fred Dorfman; William Wegman; Agnes Gund; Paula Cooper and the LeWitt Collection.

About Blue Moon Hotel: Located in the heart of Miami’s Art Deco District, Blue Moon Hotel is housed in a Mediterranean Revival building on Collins Avenue. The 75-guestroom historic hotel was created in 1997 through the artful combination of two unique buildings: the Lafayette Hotel, which originally opened in 1934 and the Floral Apartment Hotel (later known as Les Suites) built in 1940. Merv Griffin, the late entertainer and hotelier, once owned the hotel and gave the hotel its name after the song “Blue Moon” written by Rodgers and Hart. (Griffin was always particularly fond of the tune.) The hotel is an affiliate of Marriott’s Autograph Collection and is a proud member of HHM’s Independent Collection.

Forum Productions, in conjunction with the Greenhouse Theater Center NFP, is seeking actors and actresses to portray the lead and supporting roles in Truman and the Birth of Israel, a world premiere play by Chicago playwright William Spatz. Auditions will be held on Friday, September 8, from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Mizner Park Cultural Center, 201 Plaza Real in Boca Raton. The production will make its debut on March 21, 2018 and will run through April 8, 2018. Rehearsals start on March 4.

From humble beginnings as a poor farmer, soldier and failed businessman to the unimaginable: president and thrust headlong into global turmoil, Truman and the Birth of Israel tells the real story of how one Missouri man’s unlikely rise to power changed the future of the Jewish people forever. The show is directed by Clayton Phillips and produced by Forum Productions, the highly acclaimed comprehensive stage and theater company based in Chicago. The company has produced/co-produced 17 plays including the well-received Churchill and Solo Celebration!, a series of one-actor plays all staged at the Greenhouse Theater in Chicago.
Actors and actresses (including understudies) are being sought for the following roles:

HARRY S. TRUMAN: (Equity/Non-equity); 50s – late 60s, 33rd President of the United States; Proper and plainspoken but with a temper, Missouri Midwestern drawl with a blunt, yet folksy disposition.

CLARK CLIFFORD: (Non-equity); Early 40s – mid 50s; A lawyer and close friend of Truman’s, handsome, fit, calm and sophisticated.

MELVYN BELLI (Non-equity): Late 30s – 50s; An attorney for the defense who is sarcastic, aggressive and incites provocation.

EDDIE JACOBSON: (Non-equity); 50s – 60s; A close friend of Truman’s; in real life paunchy and balding, soft-spoken, under-educated, comes across as an awkward country fellow from Missouri but his easygoing personality makes him a good salesman.

BELLA ABZUG: (Non-equity); early 30s – early 40s; Truman’s attorney, an unmistakable New Yorker, born of Russian Jewish parents, with personality galore. Not a shrinking violet, though she’s both advocating for and attacking the former President of the United States.

AL SCHWIMMER: (Non-equity); 40s – 50s; Witness for the defense who is a handsome and commanding presence – forceful and confident.

Auditioning candidates should have a one-minute dramatic monologue and prior to the audition will be given a section of the script to be performed. For an appointment, please send a headshot and resume to wmspatz@gmail.com.

“Quorum: A Human Extravaganza”

This episodic exhibition illustrates pivotal moments in figurative art through the work of fifty exceptional artists, from different countries and backgrounds, despite their varied approaches to media and subjects, these artists are bound by their sustained engagement with the human figure and by their use of patterns as a visual strategy to enhance, entice and inmerse into the viewing experience.

The exhibit is complemented by two projects that merge into one…

QUORUM is a group of 15 Latin American artists presenting selections of their work in painting, drawing, digital art, mixed media or assemblage, that feature the human figure as the primary inspiration and focus . They each represent silent storytellers, waiting to be interpreted by the spectator.

HUMAN EXTRAVAGANZA is an experimental kind of Cadavre Exquis (Exquisite Corpse) based on the Surrealist concept where the participant’s work becomes a significant part of a whole. In our variation of the “cadavre”, we have invited 50 artist from differnt backgrounds, to blindly collaborate in its construction, under the premises of size and theme, the human on its figurative form. Together, these works explore issues of identity and personal history, while revealing the versatility of art as means to capture the diversity and complexity of the contemporary human experience.

The global market exhibits potential for significant growth and is propelled by the increasing need for personalized medicine, R&D expenditure, technological advancements, and increased funding for proteomics projects. In this report, the global proteomics market is segmented on the basis of instrumentation technology, application, reagent, services & software, and region. On the basis of application, the market is segmented into drug discovery, clinical diagnostics, and other applications. The clinical diagnostics segment accounted for the largest share of the market in 2015. This is attributed to the increased understanding of the relevance of investigating and understanding patterns of protein expression for diseases and drug development.

Conference Sessions:
Track 1: Proteomics & System Biology
Proteomics is an emerging field that has been highly enabled by the human genome project. Proteins are the products of genes, the machinery of the cells in our bodies. When genes are disrupted, the proteins are also affected. When pathogens infect us, causing disease, proteins play a key role in signaling the presence and ridding us of these invaders. Almost every process that occurs in our cells – from the metabolization of simple sugar to the division of cells – is dependent on proteins for smooth operation. In general, proteomics seeks to detect and quantify as many proteins as possible.
Track 2: Chemical Proteomics & Profiling Drug Targets
Chemical proteomics is a branch and improving area of chemical biology that finds to design small molecule probes to understand protein function. In the context of natural products, chemical proteomics can be used to identify the protein binding partners or targets of small molecules in live cells. The direct detection of drug-protein interactions in living cells is a major challenge in drug discovery research. Recently, we introduced an approach termed thermal proteome profiling (TPP), which enables the monitoring of changes in protein thermal stability across the proteome using quantitative mass spectrometry.
Track 3: Multiomics for Precision Medicine
Systematical studies of clinical and pathological mechanisms and identification of optimal therapeutic targets through integrative analysis of multi-omics data from different levels and resources have become an important research direction of precision medicine, which would provide innovative perspectives on disease study and new theoretical basis for early diagnosis, personalized treatment and medicine guide.
Track 4: Analytical Proteomics & Genomics
Proteomics are applied to identify protein modification to determine the difference between a wild type and a genetically modified organism. It is also used to study protein-protein interactions involved in plant defence reactions. Genomics is the new science that deals with the identification of all the sequences in the entire genome and involves in the genetic make-up of organisms. The genome is a complete set of genes inside a cell. Genomics is the study of Genomic sequence is used to study the functions of the numerous genes such as functional genomics and to compare the genes in one organism with the another one i.e, comparative genomics, or to generate the 3-D structure of one or more proteins from each protein family, through this we can identify structural genomics. Analytical methods such as protein identification, analysis of protein primary structure and post-translational modifications by means of the most comprehensive technologies for proteomics, mass spectrometry and bioinformatics.
Track 5: Bioinformatics and Computational Proteomics
Bioinformatics is a combination of molecular biology and computer sciences. Bioinformatics is very important for the use of genomic information to understand human diseases and to identify new ways for gene-based drug discovery and development. Computational Proteomics is about the computational methods, algorithms, databases and methodologies used to process, manage, analyze and interpret the data produced in proteomics experiments. As in many scientific disciplines, the final goal of Computational Proteomics is to infer knowledge models (e.g. verify a hypothesis or identify proteins involved in a disease) from the inspection of biological samples.
Track 6: Clinical & Translational Proteomics
Clinical Proteomics includes all aspects of translational proteomics. As the research in molecular medicine field has moved beyond genomics to proteomics. Clinical proteomics studies can help researcher understand the characterization of cellular network, impact of the disease and its therapy. Over the years the field of proteomics has expanded with the development of mass-spectrometry to a broad and varied research areas of science. Incredible progress in instrumentation of mass-spectrometry has led to the sensitivity, accuracy and quick analysis and identification of proteins. With the advancement in science qualitative and quantitative differences in protein profiles of particular diseased vs. normal can be analyzed. Translational Proteomics involves areas of human proteomics using multi-disciplinary approaches to untangle complex disease processes.
Track 7: Innovative Fractionation & Enrichment Techniques
Phosphoproteins are often present in quite low abundance and tend to co-exist with their unphosphorylated isoform within the cell. To make their identification more practicable, the use of enrichment protocols is often required. The enrichment strategies can be performed either at the level of phosphoproteins or at the level of phospho-peptides. Both approaches have their advantages and disadvantages. Most enriching strategies are based on chemical modifications, affinity chromatography to capture peptides and proteins containing negatively charged phosphate groups onto a positively charged matrix, or immunoprecipitation by phospho-specific antibodies.
Track 8: Proteomics Technologies
The origin of proteomics technologies for global detection and quantitation of proteins creates new opportunities and challenges for those seeking to gain greater understanding of diseases. The high passing proteomics technologies are combining with the advanced bioinformatics and are extensively used to identify the molecular signatures of diseases based on protein pathways and signaling cascades. The mass spectrometry plays a vital role in the proteomics and has to become an indispensable tool for the molecular and cellular biology. While the potential is high, many challenges and issues remain to be unsolved, such as mining low abundant proteins and integration of proteomics with genomics and metabolomics data. Even so, proteomics is the base for constructing and extracting useful knowledge to biomedical research
Track 9: Biomedical Sciences In Proteomics
Biomedical research is generally known as medical research. And it is the basic research, applied research, or translational research conducted to aid and supports the development of knowledge in the field of medicine.Proteomics is used in many areas of research such as discovery of markers for diagnosis and vaccine candidates, understanding pathogenic mechanisms, and also in the study of expression patterns at different time points and also in response to different stimuli, and in elucidating the functional protein networks. Proteomics analysis involves in the sample preparation, protein separation, and protein identification.
Track 10: Innovative Mass Spectrometry Techniques
Mass spectrometers can acquire qualitative and quantitative information on a large scale to study protein expression, protein interactions and modifications, in complexes, organelles, cells and tissues. The currently available technological platforms and approaches offer a wide selection for proteomics experiments from low to high throughput, from shotgun discovery to targeted validation.
Track 11: Cancer Epigenetics
Epigenetics, the study of potentially heritable changes in the gene expression (active versus inactive genes) and that does not involve the changes to the underlying DNA sequence – a change in phenotype without a change in genotype and which in turn affects how cells read the genes. And also epigenetic change can have more damaging effects that can results in diseases like cancer. At least three systems including DNA methylation, histone modification and non-coding RNA (ncRNA) and associated gene silencing are currently considered to initiate and sustain epigenetic change. Cancer epigenetics is the study of somatically heritable changes to molecular processes that influence the flow of information between the DNA of cancer cells and their gene expression patterns. the technology most frequently used for the analysis of clinical tissue samples is the two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2DE) are combined with the matrix assisted laser desorption/ionization time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS).
Track 12: Metabolic Disorders & Metabolomics
When abnormal chemical reactions occurs in your body and disrupt the process it is known as metabolic disorder. There are different groups of disorders. Some affect the breakdown of amino acids, carbohydrates, or lipids. Another group, mitochondrial diseases, affects the parts of the cells that produce the energy. Metabolomics ,it is the study of low molecular weight molecules or metabolites are found within cells and biological systems. The metabolome is a measure of the inputs and outputs of biological pathways and it is often considered to more representative of the functional state of a cell than other ‘omics measures such as genomics or proteomics. In addition, many metabolites are conserved across the various animal species, facilitating the extrapolation of research findings in the laboratory animals to humans. Common technologies are used for measuring the metabolome include the mass spectrometry (MS) and also nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR), which can detect the hundreds to thousands of unique chemical entities (UCE).
Track 12: Stem Cell Proteomics
Proteomics it is a series of technology and platforms driven by advancements in mass spectrometry and bioinformatics that encompass protein identification, the relative quantitation of proteins and peptides, their subcellular localization, and studies of post-translational modifications and protein-protein interactions. Stem cell biology has been influenced by these approaches and has evolved in the post-genomics era. Implementation of proteomic applications brought many changes in stem cell biology.
Track 14: Imaging & Single Cell Proteomics
Single-cell genomics is advancing rapidly and it is generating many new insights into complex biological systems, ranging from the diversity of microbial ecosystems to the genomics of human cancer. It focus on the technical challenges of making measurements that start from a single molecule of DNA, and then explore how some of these recent methodological advancements have enabled the discovery of unexpected new biology. Methods for the genomic analysis at the single-cell resolution enable the new understanding of the complex biological phenomena. Single-cell techniques are ranging from flow cytometry and microfluidics to PCR and sequencing these are used to understand the cellular composition of complex tissues, it helps to find new microbial species and perform genome-wide haplotyping.

Appropriate for ages 5-9, the Seaper Powers series communicates positive messages about self-confidence, friendship, and the environment. The children will journey with Kim and Emma through the ocean, tumbling across waves to discover treasure with the help of new sea critter friends made along the way. Guests will enjoy a puppet reading, short movie based on the book, and a meet and greet with Q&A afterwards.

In search of Bleu Jay’s Treasure: A magical tale about a little girl (Emma) who discovers special seagrass off the island of St. Thomas. It transforms her body so that she can talk to fish! Not only does she make new friends, she sets off on a new adventure to find buried treasure!

Kim Cameron is a true believer in inspiring and nurturing kids. She is a vocal instructor/mentor with Guitars Over Guns, performing with puppets. While on tour in the Caribbean, she met a 12-year-old who had a fascination with octopi. This brief encounter inspired the creation of Mr. Octopus, a children’s tune featuring an 8-year-old whom Kim recently signed to her record label. After completing the song, her co-writer and guitarist, John DePatie, encouraged her to take it to next level by writing a children’s book using the song as the impetus. They called the book Seaper Powers, in Search for Bleu Jay’s Treasure.
