“WALL 2 WALL WOMEN” Miami’s top female street artists kick off the summer with an epic new mural & exhibition

Acclaimed street-art powerhouse, Diana “DidiRok” Contreras is kicking off the summer by inviting some of the cities top female artists to join her as they take back one of her first mural walls located in the Bird Road Arts District. The massive 300-foot wall located midway on 74th Avenue will have wall to wall women painting live on June 21st. The Bird Road Art District will host the all-female group exhibition, aptly named “Wall 2 Wall Women” at HarrisArt Gallery that evening.

Contreras, along with fellow Miami artists’ Aquarela, Delvs, Kazilla, Lulu107, Miss Lushy, Mars, Marvel, Erin Odea, Jenny Perez, Ruby, Amanda Valdes and Michelle Vazquez will collaborate on the wall as well as the exhibit at the warehouse style gallery. HarrisArt will display over 20 signature works from Miami’s most influential young female artists. Beat the summer heat with complimentary beer tastings by local craft brewery, Daddy Brews and tunes by Lady T of The Geishaz and The Original Jones.

The Bird Road Art Walk was dubbed “Miami New Times Best of 2011.” Free parking, food trucks and over two dozen working artists’ studios, make for a convenient adventure in a creatively thriving district. The district is a hidden gem located just east of the Palmetto Expressway (SR-826) and south of Bird Road (SW 40 St). Most of the studios are located on SW 75 and 74 Avenues between SW 41 St & SW 48 St.

Crowd favorite, HarrisArt , the working studio of Jane Harris and Joan Futscher, centrally located at 4432 SW 74th Ave. Miami, FL 33155, will open its doors for the all-female exhibition at 7pm. HarrisArt hosts exhibitions of new work during the monthly Bird Road Art Walk often including guest artists, special programs and interactive projects. Because the color pink represents breast cancer, The Women’s Breast Health Initiative, Florida Affiliate (WBHI) would like to take this opportunity to raise breast cancer awareness. The Oceanaire Seafood Room and Savor Tonight have partnered up to host a Champagne tasting at Oceanaire with Champagne Nicolas Feuillatte on Wed., June 17th. “Champagne” Wayne, Nicolas Feuillatte’s brand manager, has selected four Champagnes from his portfolio and they’ll be paired with gourmet bites from Chef Kareem.

Hidden Colors 3: South Florida Screening | Miami Gardens

June 26, 2014- “Hidden Colors” — a documentary series about the cultural history of African Americans, identity and race in America, will be releasing the highly anticipated third installment, “The Rules Of Racism.” The film will focus on the topic of race, racism, and history within the United States. The project features various speakers from scholars such as Dick Gregory and Phil Valentine, to entertainment vets like Nas, KRS-ONE, David Banner and Paul Mooney.

The series’ director and producer Tariq “Elite” Nasheed — a New York Times bestselling author, public speaker, and radio host — is widely known for his social commentary. In the trailer, he briefly alludes to a certain motivation in approaching the topic of racism, “there’s never been a real dialogue in America about race because every time we talk about race the conversation then turns into ‘what’s wrong with black people.'” This documentary destroys the myths and lies about melinated people of African descent. For those who are seeking the truth about black history and the effects of systemic racism in this country, Hidden Colors 3 and the Hidden Colors series is a must watch. This documentary pertains to our youth, education, economics, world history amongst other topics from a melinated perspective. Miami’s hotspot regarded for its cutting-edge art and inventive menu of Global-Latino small plates continues its celebration of cuisine from around the world with a tasting menu focused on European delights. In a three-month long series, Executive Chef Miguel Aguilar will showcase dishes from Spain in June, Germany in July and Portugal in August, while still incorporating the bold Latin flavors that WKB is known for.

Fête de la Musique, a global celebration of music on the summer solstice, comes to Big Night in Little Haiti this month on June 20 at the Little Haiti Cultural Center. The inspiration behind Fete, which began in Paris in 1982, is to welcome summer with free music. Prior to the main stage concert by popular young Haitian kompa group Gabel, there will be an open stage for the public to make music. Gabel began with a bang in 2006 – prestigious Kompa Magazine named the young Haitian group “New Band of the Year”. Inter Academy Florida is the first youth soccer academy in the USA affiliated with F.C. Internazionale (widely known as Inter Milan) and is led by Riccardo Ferri, a former Inter and Italian National Team player himself. This project aims at developing kids’ soccer talents and forming them into great players by employing the training philosophy and methodology used by both F.C. Inter adult and youth teams. Inter Academy Florida is geared towards boys and girls 4-17 and offers three different program options: Camp, Academy, and Recreational. The summer camp program officially begins on June 9th and will run through August 1st in 1-week sessions; it is currently open for enrollment online and will also be accepting registrations during open house event. For optimal convenience, camp program will be offering day and evening sessions at four different locations, two in Miami-Dade County and two in Broward County. Young soccer lovers will not want to pass the opportunity to join this world-class academy.

The uniqueness of Inter Academy Florida lies in the direct access members will have to training resources of the professional soccer team abroad, and having a former pro soccer player fronting the entire program. These dynamics will allow participants to get first-hand game strategy, coaching and structured talent development, in order to improve their game in a fun and safe environment. Inter Academy Florida has three programs for kids 4-17: Camp (summer season June 9 – August 1, 2014; camps also available during winter and spring in 1-week sessions), Elite Academy (tryouts for 2014-2015 competitive season are May 27 – June 1, 2014 and training will start in August), and Recreational (available during fall and spring in 9-week sessions). Also available, private lessons with Riccardo Ferri, scouting days with college and professional coaches, and Inter Academy Florida Cares (free games for kids with disabilities).

Share Our Strength’s Taste of the Nation® is the nation’s premier culinary benefit, featuring South Florida’s top restaurants and culinary talents – all of whom are coming together to donate their time, talent and passion to end childhood hunger in America.

This year, the region’s most anticipated gastronomic event will showcase more than 50 of the hottest restaurants from both Dade and Broward counties, chefs, sommeliers and mixologists and an impressive array of auction items. Those who want to continue the revelry will love the exclusive new Black and Blanco After Party, sponsored by Tequila Casa Dragones Blanco and featuring hors d’oeuvres by Lure, as well as chocolate temptations by some of Miami’s most talented pâtissiers.

Taste of the Nation South Florida will take place on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 from 7 to 10 p.m., in the main ballroom of the Loews Miami Beach Hotel, with the after party continuing until midnight. General admission tickets are priced at $125 per person; VIP tickets priced at $250 per person, and provide access to the event an hour before the doors open, as well as admission to the Black and Blanco After Party.

Fashion Happy Hour’s May Event will be hosted by Miami’s fashion blogger, That Aviator Girl, and Hair and Makeup Artist, I Brush You. The class consists of a two-part educational experience. The sake portion is led by SUSHISAMBA’s sake sommelier and includes five flights with an introduction to the history of sake, its common myths, pairing tips and more. From aromatic to aged to sparkling, guests will be exposed to a diverse range of sake from new prefectures every month – be it “sweet and spicy” or “rich and round with a sweet caramel finish.” Participants will not leave hungry and should bring their appetites! Throughout the class, they will enjoy a selection of SUSHISAMBA’s signature dishes, a variety of sushi rolls, edamame, tempura and sashimi.

In the second part of the class, participants will gain insider sushi-making tips from SUSHISAMBA Coral Gables’ executive sushi chef, including an introduction to the history and traditions of sushi, followed by a demonstration on the selection and preparation of raw fish. But that’s not all – the class will conclude with all participants creating, and enjoying, sushi rolls of their choice! A mala is a set of beads commonly used by Hindus and Buddhists, usually made from 108 beads. Malas are used for keeping count while reciting, chanting, or mentally repeating a mantra or the name or names of a deity. This practice is known in Sanskrit as japa.

In this workshop, you will learn how to make your own mala beads while chanting mantras and bringing your awareness to your inner self, opening a space for observation and meditation.
