Corvina Seafood Grill, will host an unforgettable wine tasting and small plate soiree on Saturday, July 27, 2024. The one-night-only event, aimed at delivering relief and respite from our wet and wild summer thus far, is the collaborative effort of head bartender Oscar Garcia and general manager Eduardo Pagan.

The event, held during the balmy afternoon hours – will feature seven exclusive pours, both red and white, from all over the world, with definite stops in Italy and France. Starting at 1 PM, the tasting will feature special, off-the-menu tasting platters by Executive Chef Jeff Tunks. As guests enjoy the pairings, Garcia and Pagan will share their insights and inspirations.

In 2022, Darius V. Daughtry, one of South Florida’s best-known poets, authors, directors and educators, presented a stage reading of Seeking, where he explored a journey of self-discovery in the midst of an everchanging world. Now he brings his well-received work to the stage in this new full production with performances on Friday, July 26 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, July 27 at 2 and 7 p.m. in the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets start at $30 with student prices at $20.

Written and directed by Daughtry, Seeking is an unforgettable experience that brings music and magic to the stage as the audience follows the story of a young musician’s quest for independence. This leads to his discovery of how instrumental his family’s past is to him in finding his future. Feeding South Florida® – the leading hunger-relief organization in South Florida – will host its Annual Outrun Hunger 5K in Palm Beach County in celebration of Hunger Action Month on Saturday, Sept. 21. Runners, families and community leaders of all ages will come together to take steps in the beautiful Okeeheelee Park to raise funds and awareness to end hunger in South Florida.

Hunger Action Month, a nationwide initiative created by Feeding America®, takes place throughout September and is designed to raise awareness about the issue of hunger in America and inspire others to take action toward ending it. Throughout the month, Feeding South Florida will offer a range of events and activities to encourage South Florida residents to “GO ORANGE” and engage in various hunger relief efforts.

Dead Man Walking is an opera by acclaimed composer, Jake Heggie, based on the book and film interpretation of the same name. It’s a powerful retelling of the true story that has profoundly influenced the ongoing debate on the death penalty in America. Settle in for a spectacular live opera experience by Miami Beach Classical Music Festival.

When a New Orleans-based Catholic nun agrees to become pen pals with an inmate convicted of murder on death row, her entire worldview on life, death, forgiveness, and capital punishment is challenged forever.

Heggie will be in residence to work with MMF’s Opera Institute cast to help tell this poignant story featuring a libretto by Tony-award-winning Terrance McNally (Masterclass, Ragtime).

Burgess Modern + Contemporary is thrilled to unveil “INK: 75 Years of Prints”, a vibrant summer exhibition that promises to captivate art lovers and collectors alike with a diverse and dynamic collection of fine art prints, limited editions, and numbered series of works spanning several generations and artistic movements.

Opening on July 19, 2024, from 6 – 9 pm, this exhibition features works by Derrick Adams, Marc Chagall, The Connor Brothers, Salvador Dali, Damien Hirst, Alex Katz, Joan Miro, Jedd Novatt, Pablo Picasso, Ugo Rondinone, Carlos Rolon, David Salle, Kenny Scharf, Frank Stella, Donald Sultan, and Nicole Wittenberg.

Curatorially inspired by the recently opened and highly celebrated exhibition of Alex Katz’s “60 Years of Printmaking” in Paris, the exhibition at Burgess Modern + Contemporary explores the dialogue between historical finesse and contemporary boldness through the works by some of the most celebrated modern and contemporary artists.

Each artwork in “INK: 75 Years of Prints” offers a rare spectrum of styles and techniques and embodies a unique narrative that is both culturally poignant and artistically significant. Marc Chagall’s lithographs, imbued with dreamlike imagery and vibrant colors, invite viewers into his fantastical world, where folklore and personal memory intertwine. Similarly, the surrealist masterpieces of Salvador Dalí push the boundaries of imagination and technique. Alex Katz, whose work also serves as a source of inspiration for this exhibition, is renowned for his flat, bold portraits that capture the essence of his subjects with striking simplicity. Joan Miró’s prints, characterized by playful abstraction and a vivid palette, offer a whimsical yet profound commentary on the human mind. Contemporary artist Derrick Adams’s work reflects on African American culture and identity, often incorporating elements of collage and vibrant patterns that challenge traditional narratives and celebrate individuality. The enigmatic works of The Connor Brothers blur the lines between fiction and reality, using text and imagery to provoke thought and elicit emotional responses. Ugo Rondinone’s prints, celebrated for their meditative and poetic qualities, seamlessly blend natural motifs with minimalist abstraction, offering viewers a contemplative visual experience that transcends the ordinary.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade will host its annual black-tie “Wild About Kids” Disco Ball at the Loews Coral Gables Hotel on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024. The event will kick off with a cocktail reception at 7 p.m. followed by a three-course dinner in the Alhambra Ballroom. South Florida’s community leaders, philanthropists and influencers will be among the guests who will experience the 70s with glitter and glamour under the disco ball. Guests will enjoy dinner, dancing, live entertainment, an engaging program and more to benefit great futures for Miami-Dade area youth.

Proceeds will benefit Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade’s crucial programs and services at its six Clubs and sites combined including its educational after-school programs, tutoring and homework assistance, STEM, recreation, dance, arts and crafts, mentoring and summer and athletic programs. These programs help children realize their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens.

“Salsa Disco Queen” Lucy Grau will provide the soundtrack for the evening singing classic 70s hits from Donna Summer and more. Guests will also enjoy a unique 70s musical performance from Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade’s youth members. Emmy Award-winning journalist and WSVN Channel 7 News anchor Lynn Martinez will emcee the event. Supporters will have a special opportunity to sponsor a child through donations and participate in a silent auction featuring high-end items and exceptional luxury experiences.

The 16th Annual “Wild About Kids Disco Ball” Gala Chair is Michelle Zubizarreta. Olga Guilarte, member of Boys & Girls of Miami-Dade’s Executive Committee, is the special event chair. Corteo, the most enchanting arena production from Cirque du Soleil is heading to Sunrise, set to charm audiences. This unique production, directed by Daniele Finzi Pasca, first premiered in Montreal in April 2005. Since its creation, the show has amazed over 10 million spectators, in 20 countries, on 4 continents. Corteo will be presented at the Amerant Bank Arena for 12 shows only from July 11th to 21st, 2024.

Corteo, which means cortege in Italian, is a joyous procession, a festive parade imagined by a clown. Abandoned by the surgeon in the middle of a delicate surgery, the young patient waits in the hospital, oblivious to his responsibility in the unusual incident. It is heavily raining in the city, but he can barely move his head to look through the hospital window.

Sometimes being slow, small or weak can have its advantages in Survival of the Slowest, the newest summer traveling exhibit presented by Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, running June 7 through September 5, at the Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS). Guests will get an in-depth look at the often-overlooked species that evolved to slow down as part of their survival strategy in a world where large, strong and fast animals are often at the top of the food chain.

The exhibit will feature 14 habitats with live animals (17 species) and plants. Guests will get an up-close look at wildlife with daily presentations featuring a sloth, a tarantula, tortoises, a hedgehog, a blue-tongued skink and more* via wildlife educators and MODS’ Life Sciences staff. Meet animals that have survived for millions of years despite being very slow and learn about the puzzling sides of evolution and adaptation. Discover the difference between warm- and cold-blooded species, explore why some animals need less food than others and see the unique ways they hide from predators.

This educational exhibit looks at the different survival strategies of various species. How can slow and steady win the race? Does bigger always mean better? What animals benefit from being weak rather than strong? This exhibit looks at the advantages and disadvantages of these different traits.

This world class exhibit is produced by Little Ray’s Nature Exhibitions in collaboration with the Canadian Museum of Nature. It is locally sponsored by Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. Little Ray’s Nature Centres is the largest exotic animal rescue organization in Canada with educational programs reaching more than one million Canadians each year. Most of the animals in this exhibition are rescues.

NFL Hall of Famer and Miami Dolphins great Dwight Stephenson is teaming up with Gunther Automotive Group to host the inaugural Norman Bonchick Memorial Golf Tournament supporting Broward Children’s Center at The Club at Weston Hills on Monday, June 24.

The fundraising event will benefit Broward Children’s Center, a nonprofit organization that has been serving infants, children, and young adults with special needs since 1971. Proceeds will support Broward Children’s Center’s crucial programs and medical, developmental, and therapeutic services designed to meet the specific needs of infants, children and young adults who are developmentally disabled and medically fragile and their families.

Stephenson along with celebrity friends Lawrence Taylor, OJ McDuffie, Troy Drayton, Akin Ayodele, Mike Pouncey, James McKnight, Kerry Glenn, Ki-Jana Carter, Orlando “El Duque” Hernandez, Pierre Garcon, Travis Daniels, Vernon Carey and others will be in attendance. WSVN Channel 7 Sports Anchor Josh Moser will be the master of ceremonies.

Registration will begin at 7 a.m., where guests will enjoy breakfast provided by Howard’s Market. The scramble-style tournament will tee off with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Along the course, golfers will have the opportunity to participate in fundraising activities and contests at various holes.

Celebrate the Life and Music of Elvis Presley! Gone but never forgotten, Elvis’ music, movies and memories live on as a testament to his true effect and influence on his generation and future generations to come. Chris MacDonald, with his dynamic eight-piece band and dancers, draws his audience in with the look, sounds, and nuances that made Elvis the King in a heartfelt tribute to music and memories of the legendary performer. Adding to the authenticity of his tribute, Chris has the ultimate honor of being the “Only Tribute Artist hired by Elvis Presley Enterprises to perform at Graceland’s Heartbreak Hotel”. With this newly updated production, the show will include costume changes, songs and video clips telling the story of the different stages of Elvis’s incredible career including the 1950′s, the Movies, the 1968 Comeback and the 1970′s White Fringe Vegas Concerts. It’s all a part of this loving tribute to one of the greatest entertainers of all time. An accomplished and experienced entertainer, Chris has performed in Vegas, Branson and with the famous Legends in Concert stage productions. He has also headlined with Elvis’ own original back up group, the Jordanaires and D.J Fontana at the famous Hard Rock Live Concert Arena. Women’s Breast & Heart Initiative (WBHI) — a leader in disease prevention and early detection— joins the iconic Macy’s who is deeply rooted in the South Florida community.

Celebrating National Pink Day, WBHI inspires the community to embrace the power of prevention during Summer Breast Cancer Awareness reminding all women to Get Your Mammogram. Women are encouraged to contact WBHI to schedule their mammograms at no cost by calling 305-825-4081.

Valued host partner Macy’s adds glamour to the day while supporting good health for all by offering a raffle ticket for a chance to win Macy’s specialty fragrance basket or a Starbucks gift basket. An original family-friendly show, giving a slice of life inside the 1940’s Italian-American immigrant experience. This uniquely crafted musical by Elizabeth Allen Turner, whose great-grandparents arrived at Ellis Island from Gambettola, Italy, is great fun and inspirational to those who find themselves in the situation of starting over in life.

Spend your Thursday at Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) for a celebration of Juneteenth with the sounds of the Harden Project Duo on the waterfront terrace and happy hour specials at Verde restaurant and bar.

About Harden Project Duo

The Harden Project consists of vocalist Ja’Nia Harden and keyboardist John Harden II. Their influences include Bobby McFerrin, Dinah Washington, Al Jarreau, Jimmy Smith, Robert Glasper, Soulive, and Bobby Floyd. The couple blends their influences and life experiences to create soulful groovy sometimes enchanting compositions. They are not afraid of being transparent and open while performing. The goal of the project is to bring soul-stirring, emotion-provoking, life-influenced music to the world and features fusion-based music of all genres, heavily influenced by jazz, social music, and soul.

The Historical Legacy of Juneteenth

On “Freedom’s Eve,” or the eve of January 1, 1863, the first Watch Night services took place. On that night, enslaved and free African Americans gathered in churches and private homes all across the country awaiting news that the Emancipation Proclamation had taken effect. At the stroke of midnight, prayers were answered as all enslaved people in the Confederate States were declared legally free. Union soldiers, many of whom were black, marched onto plantations and across cities in the South reading small copies of the Emancipation Proclamation and spreading the news of freedom in Confederate States. Only through the Thirteenth Amendment did emancipation end slavery throughout the United States. Not everyone in Confederate territory would immediately be free. Even though the Emancipation Proclamation was made effective in 1863, it could not be implemented in places still under Confederate control. As a result, in the westernmost Confederate state of Texas, enslaved people would not be free until much later. Freedom finally came on June 19, 1865, when some 2,000 Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas. The army announced that the more than 250,000 enslaved black people in the state, were free by executive decree. This day came to be known as “Juneteenth,” by the newly freed people in Texas. Juneteenth marks our country’s second independence day. Although it has long been celebrated in the African American community, this monumental event remains largely unknown to most Americans.
