April 29 from 1-4 PM: The Lincoln Road B.I.D. presents “Live #onLincoln,” a FREE concert featuring vocalist Stephanie Michaels. The performance will be at the Euclid Circle stage, Lincoln Rd and Euclid Ave, Miami Beach. Of Puerto Rican and Jamaican descent, Stephaine Michaels weaves her multicultural background into her talents as an entertainer. Her scope covers vintage rhythm and blues, classic rock, contemporary pop, rap and hip-hop. After joining The Fusion Band she began to perform at various places throughout South Florida. Performances at The Fling Lounge at the Isles Casino, Mardi Gras Casino, The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Seminole Classic Casino and Gulfstream Casino increased the entertainer’s loyal fan base. After working with the band for three and a half years, Michaels was offered an opportunity to work with legendary musicians as the lead vocalist in B.B. King’s Allstar Band. Currently, she can be seen performing at B.B. King’s Blues Club in West Palm Beach. Michaels is a career-minded, soulful talent who connects with her fans as if they were old friends, with an honest smile. Sunday, April 29, from 4-7 PM, FREE: Global Arts Project, Inc. and the Collins Park Neighborhood Association celebrate International Jazz Day in Collins Park, 2100 Collins Ave in Miami Beach. The concert features singer/songwriter Leesa Richards, a storyteller, a soulful voice offering a soundtrack to the narratives of life. Her sound taps into the deep roots of R&B, the poetry of jazz and folk and the energy of rock. Her debut solo album, Mother’s Child, is a rich blend of soulful ballads, rock and R&B, and showcases her gifts as a songwriter; it is a universal story of love and loss. She has performed with a slate of powerhouse artists including Faith Hill, The Bee Gees, Kelly Clarkson, Gloria Estefan, and Carole King, and recorded with Barbra Streisand and Lenny Kravitz, among other artists. On stage, she played the role of Mary Magdalene in the national tour of the Broadway musical, Jesus Christ Superstar, earning critical acclaim which led to featured performances throughout the US and Europe.
Grammy-winner and educator Dr. Ed Calle’s student group, The Greater Miami Youth Symphony, will open the show.

April 15 from 1-4 PM: As part of its ongoing celebration of Pride Month, the Lincoln Road BID presents “Live #onLincoln,” featuring vocalist EnVee, at the Lincoln Road stage, 1111 Lincoln Road at Alton Rd. The performance is free.

Cuban-born, Miami-raised with a vintage influence, EnVee’s background is as diverse as the music she creates. Her creativity comes from influences like Celia Cruz, Barbara Streisand, Frank Sinatra & Ella Fitzgerald to Luciano Pavarotti. She was accepted to the American Music and Dramatic Academy, a music conservatory in New York City where she quickly moved after graduating high school. This gave her the opportunity to study vocal performance, dance, acting and musical theater. Upon returning to Miami, Envee joined the music department at Miami Dade College where she became lead soloist for Juba Gospel Choir, leading them in a national competition and tour. She began her writing career shortly after that.

EnVee’s professional career has led her to a two year running show at Magic City Casino & The Casino at Dania Beach as the Opening Act for Kevin Ceballo. She has performed in great community events such as Miami Beach Gay Pride 2016 and Orgullo 2015. She wrote the theme song for the World Out Games Miami 2017, and had the honor of being the opening act for Cher at Hilary Clinton’s Presidential campaign fundraiser with the cast of The Cabaret South Beach at The Fillmore Miami Beach. She has sung the national anthem for The Florida Marlins in both 2012 & 2015, and was a special guest at the Orlando Pulse tribute at the America Airlines Area. EnVee was also invited to sing at the Miami Rocks Concert 2016 with the Miami Symphony Orchestra at the Adrienne Arsht Center. She was crowned the First “Ultimate Voice Miami” and has competed in National and International television singing competitions such as the NBC show “The Winner Is” and “Yo Soy El Artista” on Telemundo, finishing in the top 6.

EnVee can currently be seen as the featured singer at the Faena Theater, inside the Faena Hotel in their new resident show SENSATIA and is working on a new jazz project which promises not to disappoint. Her music is for all ages, multiple genres and pleases the masses. We can’t wait to hear what’s next!

A native of São Paulo, Brazil, Felipe Fontanelle developed his taste in music listening to many of the great performers and composers of Bossa Nova, MPB and Jazz. He studied at the “Conservatório Souza Lima” in São Paulo and the Jazz School “Hot Clube Portugal”. He joined the cast of the musical “Amigos do Peito” in and recorded the album’s project, which toured around Portugal. He released his first solo album, by Universal Music, in both Portugal and Brazil. Felipe’s latest single, “Deus Também Sorri”, is a Felipe Fontenelle and Antonio Ladeira partnership. The song was produced in Rio de Janeiro by Luiz Claudio Ramos (Chico Buarque’s musician, producer and arranger). The video was made by award-winning Portuguese director Pedro Varela. Jean Almatas (“Pokito”) is a talented singer and songwriter, bringing us deeply rooted music, and expands what we know as world music.The band played in several Festivals such as Bob Marley fest, One Love Nutri fest, Bay Jama Fest in Islamorada in the Keys, and Grand opening Big Nite in Little Haiti. Jean P Jam since then has been performing in local clubs, among which is his current base at Purdy Lounge, where every Monday night he brings the essence of music to everyone from all ethnic backgrounds. Pokito calls his music “Rootsy Juicy.”

At 28, he joined Magnum band, one of the most prominent bands in his native Haiti. In 1987 the band was invited for a USA tour and Pokito remained in New York City performing with them for 2 years. He has worked with such notable artists as Richie Booker (Bob Marley’s brother), Cedella Booker (Bob Marley’s mother), and Florida’s leading musicians, working as a highly sought after freelance. Pokito played for a few Local bands such as: No Man Gin, Me and the Blue Dog as rock musician, The Aristocrats as Soca and reggae musician. After touring Japan with Richie Booker, he decided to put his band (Jean P Jam) together in 2002 where he introduced his original world beat style called “Deep Roots.”

As one of South Florida’s longest-running world music events, the annual Afro Roots World Music Festival celebrates the evolution of African culture by featuring some of the best performers from all over the Caribbean, the Americas and Africa.

To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the festival, Community Arts & Culture, will present the Sun Ra Arkestra, musical torch-bearers for the late, great big-band keyboard innovator. The Arkestra carry on the traditions set by the cosmic philosopher born Herman Poole Blount, complete with full costumes and the songbook from Saturn.

A master trumpeter “uniquely poised to reconcile jazz and Arabic music without doing either harm” –the Wire

Iraqi- American musician Amir ElSaffar has created techniques to play on the trumpet the microtones and ornaments found in Arabic music but not typically heard on brass. As a composer, he uses this to create an innovative approach to harmony and melody, seen in his commissions for jazz ensembles, Chamber Orchestras, and Middle Eastern Ensembles alike.

In 2018, this annual series returns in collaboration with Miami Dade College’s MDC Live Arts. It invites audiences into a meditative space through instrumental, traditional and innovative sounds from the Middle East. With support from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation’s Knight Arts Challenge and the Doris Duke Foundation, The Rhythm Foundation and MDC Live Arts create an opportunity to build a connection with cultures primarily in the public eye for conflict zones. Victoria Rogers, Vice President of Arts for Knight Foundation, said: “Few things can bring people together like the arts. Events like this series are a great prism for exploring our and other cultures, and for finding the threads that unite us all.”

In an immersive environment, the audience surrounds performers in an in-the-round stage setup. The evening also features culture-specific, traditional snacks and sweets to engage the audience in a multi-sensory experience.

Orchestra Miami’s most popular annual event, Beethoven on the Beach, returns this March! Join Orchestra Miami as we perform three spectacular FREE outdoor concerts in Miami Beach, Pinecrest and Sunny Isles Beach. This year’s program includes one of Beethoven’s most beautiful yet least performed pieces, the Symphony N. 4 in B Flat Major, Op. 60 and his dramatic “Coriolan” Overture. First Runner-Up in the 2010 Thelonious Monk International Vocal Competition, Charenée is a notable singer, composer, arranger and educator. Her accolades include Betty Carter’s Jazz Ahead Program where she performed her original music at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC; being one of the talented four chosen for the Dianne Reeves Young Artist Workshop at Carnegie Hall; 1st Runner-Up in the Jazzmobile Vocal Competition; and being selected for the JAS Academy Summer Sessions, 2007-09, directed by Christian McBride. Charenée is currently a professor at the Aaron Copland School of Music, City College, and with the Jazzmobile Workshop program. She teaches various workshops and clinics and was an esteemed judge for the 2010 Jazzmobile Vocal Competition, alongside Dr. Billy Taylor and Grady Tate. Charenée performs internationally and graces the stages of the Jazz Gallery, Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Dizzy’s Coca Cola, the legendary Smalls and the Zinc Bar in NYC. She has recorded two CD’s: Love Walked In (Independant 2011) and Offering: The Music of Gil Scott-Heron & Brian Jackson (Motéma Music 2015)

Sunday Feb 18, 4-7 PM in Collins Park, FREE: Global Arts Project, Inc., presents The French Horn Collective, Celebrating Mardi Gras. They are an energetic and progressive band that performs an eclectic variety of Gypsy Jazz, Swing, and modern original French music throughout South Florida. Led by Parisian Musician, multi-instrumentalist, composer, singer and songwriter Vincent Raffard, the diverse group consists of anywhere from 3 to 8 highly talented musicians from a myriad of musical backgrounds, with instrumentation including Trumpet, Guitar, Violin, Double Bass, Clarinet, and Vocals. Their wide variety of musical influences, ranging from Gypsy Jazz, Hot Swing, Ska, to Polka, result in the band producing a smooth mixture of progressive Gypsy/Parisian/Swing/World Music. As part of GAP’s educational outreach program, the concert will open with a set by students of Dr Ed Calle. A Farmer’s Market will also be in the park that day. Admission is open and free. The Lincoln Road B.I.D. presents “Live on Lincoln,” a FREE concert series every weekend. This Saturday, February 3, features Rose Max and Ramatis Brazilian Party from 1-4 PM.

Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, capital of Bossa Nova, Rose is the great-grand daughter of the conductor Cupertino de Menezes and granddaughter of the guitar player Manuel de Menezes, both legends of the early Brazilian music.

Rose moved to the US, where she keeps a very busy performing schedule (about 260 shows per year). She has become highly recognized in the Brazilian, Spanish and American communities. Rose Max won for the 3rd time the Brazilian Press Award for the “Best Female Brazilian Singer Residing and Performing in the USA” and Miami’s New Times Newspaper elected Rose Max the “Best Female Vocalist” of the year.

Also a Rio native, Ramatis Moraes backed up the biggest names in Brazilian Popular Music (MPB), including Roberto Menescal, Johny Alf, Peri Ribeiro, Maria Creuza, Claudia Telles, Elizete Cardoso, João Nogueira, Roberto Ribeiro, Jovelina Pérola Negra, João de Aquino, Marcus Moura, Moreira da Silva, Golden Boys, Tim Maia and many others. Ramatis studied music at the Estácio de Sá University and was later tutored by the legendary Maestro Aristides Santos. Ramatis is considered one of today’s biggest Bossa Nova guitarist/bassist in the US and has been living in Miami since coming to this country, playing MPB, Brazilian Jazz, Electronic Music and Bossa-Nova at the most prestigious local venues. He is also a successful songwriter, producer and arranger, signed to Warner Chappell Publishing for six years.

Nicole Yarling defies description. Her myriad of personal influences have created a product that begs attention across the board. Her chosen instruments are voice, violin and fiddle (in that order). Nicole is a rich velvet voice with technical skill and personality to boot! She is a rising star in the jazz community who, like many others, has been at it for years.

According to the Miami Sun Sentinel, “Every musical hat fits Nicole Yarling. For more than a decade, she has been a part of South Florida’s musical world as a singer and violinist, working in jazz, rock, R and B, experimental music and a few other styles that defy description.”

Nicole’s musical excursions have brought about stints with Dizzy Gillespie, and three years on tour as a featured soloist with Jimmy Buffet. She also participated on Buffet’s platinum-selling CD, Fruit Cakes, and then went on to do eight worldwide tours with her own project, Little Nicky and the Slicks.

Join New World Symphony Artistic Director and composer Michael Tilson Thomas (MTT) as he leads an evening exclusively dedicated to new artistic creations. This event celebrating Miami and creativity in the arts is the cornerstone of NWS’s commitment to multi-genre innovation. The program includes the world premieres of a newly-revised Miami in Movements, two musical compositions and a short literary work by MTT himself and a micro-play by New York playwright Christopher Wall.

What does Miami sound and look like? The program includes the world premiere of the newly-revised Miami in Movements, a vibrant multisensory reflection on, and a love song to, contemporary Miami created by composer Ted Hearne and filmmaker Jonathan David Kane. Miami in Movements is the culminating work resulting from Project 305, which invited residents to share their stories and experiences of life in Miami in sound and video.

Glimpse of the Big Picture features three world premieres by MTT that include a short work for solo piano, a reading inspired by his recollection of a dream and a work for large ensemble, which MTT will himself conduct.

The Inherent Sadness of Low-Lying Areas explores how past experiences such as trauma can impact interpersonal relationships. The play weaves selected Fellows into the performance both musically and theatrically. This play will come to life through actors Joel Leffert and June Ballinger and through five Fellows, who will perform excerpts of musical works spanning three centuries.
